Sticky Note | Mark Lee
A/N: Happy Mark day!! <3 💚
You were convinced that your boyfriend, Mark, was simply the cutest person to ever exist.
A couple of months ago, you had completed a very tedious research paper that took the entire semester to write. Your professor had such a specific rubric that there were so many times you just felt like giving up.
The only reason why you didn't, was because you're dating the most hard working person you have ever met. Mark always goes above and beyond. His passion for doing was he loves became your main source of motivation during this process.
After you received an A on your research paper, you told Mark all about this.
"You should be proud of yourself y/n, you worked so hard on it." Mark says, giving you a kiss on the forehead while he squeezes you into a hug.
"I genuinely would not have done half as good if it wasn't for you though."
"You wrote the paper, I didn't do anything."
"Yeah, but seeing you work so hard all the time is the most motivating thing ever. Like you always make me want to be better and work hard for my goals."
You could tell he wasn't expecting the compliment, because he didn't say anything. He just smiled at you and squeezed you into another hug.
⸻
It wasn't rare for you to compliment Mark, so you really didn't think too much about it. Until you went into his room a couple months later. You two were having a movie night and you wanted to borrow one of his comfy t-shirts, so you went into his closet to get one.
While you were changing into the shirt, you noticed a sticky note with your name on it, sitting on Marks desk. Out of curiosity, you read it.
"Y/n told me last night that I motivate her by working hard and that I make her want to be better. I want to always work hard for her, and be her motivation."
Your heart melts after reading his little note to himself. You didn't realize that what you said would mean so much to him. You debate in your mind whether or not you should tell him that you saw his note, and you decided that you have to, because it's so cute.
You walk out into the living room where he has the movie all set up and ready to watch, and stand next to him while he sits on the couch.
"You always look so pretty in my clothes." He says while playing with the hem of the shirt.
You smile down at him and then lean towards him to give him a kiss. "I saw the note you have on your desk."
He immediately knows what you're talking about and starts to get visibly shy. "Oh! yeah i don't know... it was just a really nice compliment so I wanted to write it down so I could remember it."
"You are such a cutie, Mark."
His cheeks get a tiny bit red at your statement. It's crazy how he still gets flustered from your words after being together for so long. You cherish him so much, if you truly said every compliment to him that you thought of, he would have an entire book of your high praises.

i got a bit carried away and decided to write a fic based off of @mcharon's comic for mark's birthday, so ill put this here.
its semi a fic version of the comic, so if you want to see that go here. but otherwise, i hope this is good for both mcharon and mark.
(fic is under the cut)
happy birthday markiplier. and thank you for all you do.
he was back in the warp core again.
mark opened his eyes to the sight of the same room he had lived in for eons. the same white lights illuminating the room he was once proud of, only to become an eternal hellscape not long after.
the warp core stands complete in the center. the blue hues reflecting off its surface reminding him of the torture he had to endure for many years. he hoped that his mind had forgotten the whole ordeal, but apparently it did not.
the head engineer's gaze turns to the wall near the console. the white fire extinguisher almost glowing in the technological lights of the room.
his feet slowly trudged towards the extinguisher at a snail like pace, feeling as though he was walking in a vat of molasses.
once mark reached for the handle and held it in hands, he could hear the door on his right finally being opened. the sound was familiar, yet strange at the same time.
turning his head, he saw the form of his captain standing at the doorway with wide eyes and a shocked look on their face.
instinctually mark tried to step closer towards them, but his feet remained firmly in place.
when his body finally moved, he could feel his hands grasping onto the fire extinguisher and raise it threateningly.
the captain turned towards him.
"hi captain." mark's voice garbled, before hitting the captain in the head.
mark's mind was screaming. he had seen all this before, lived through this exact moment beat for beat.
he was unsure of whether he was back in the wormhole or not. but the head engineer was determined to survive this again.
the memory continued like before. ripping the crystal from the captains hand, explaining how the warp core worked. after giving up on fighting his body, mark found himself trying to recite the words he was saying in his mind.
as though a cutscene switched over to gameplay, mark finally could feel himself controlling his body once more.
this time, however, he was no where near the captain when he started to get lifted into the wormhole.
mark screamed, reaching for the railings before they slipped out of his grasp.
"captain!" mark cried, his body floating up into the wormhole dangerously.
the captain, somehow remaining firmly on the ground, ran towards him and reached their arms out.
"mark!" they screamed, "i'm here!"
the head engineer felt his body rumble, his mind telling him to duck for any debris floating into the wormhole.
yet when he felt nothing hitting his face, he opened his eyes and looked back down.
"we are here!"
below him, surrounding his captain, were an almost infinite crowd of individuals looking vaguely similar to his captain. some were different races and species, some with different hair colors, some yelling in different languages.
yet as he felt his body slowly drift away from the wormhole, there was two things that they all shared in common.
they all were his captain in a way, and they were all reaching out towards him.
everyone was calling for him, he could hear his name amidst a cacophony of languages and accents. each one crying desperately for him. and looking at each of them one by one, his mind was telling him that they were all his captain.
reaching out, mark felt himself getting pulled into the crowd of captains. their hands gently guiding him back onto the ground before mark felt himself drift mentally.
mark opened his eyes.
he sits up and feels the texture of his blanket on his legs. a cold sweat lining his skin in an almost sobering manner.
staring at the walls of his room, he spots his tablet lying at his bedside and sighs.
there's a message from the captain.
it was just a dream.
---
after going through his morning routine, mark hurriedly grabs a cup of coffee and dashes towards the bridge.
upon entering, mark sees the captain staring out to the planet below them. the morning inspection crews having just departed to scour the landscape before the colonists are moved.
the two talk about their plans for the day, several places they need to inspect, papers to sign, a typical meeting between a captain and their head engineer save for the many jokes and quips the two share.
when all the work talk was done, the captain turned to mark and asked about his sleep last night.
after explaining his dream in detail, mark turns to the planet below and chuckles lightly.
"a weird one, right captain?" he jokes. "i don't know why i had this dream. maybe i'm just too stressed? i don't know."
"what if that's not a dream?" the captain quips from beside him.
mark turns to the captain. "what does that mean?" he asks before his eyes seeing the same infinite crowd of captains beside them.
"that means we love you." the captain he knew smiled, sipping their cup of coffee before the rest followed suit, smiling and agreeing.
suddenly mark blinked. the crowd's captain outfits forgone as they all smiled at him.
"happy birthday mark!"
mark turned to himself, and saw his head engineer outfit replaced with a simple black shirt.
"also..."
on his mug, he saw a different word printed on its surface.
"thank you." it read.
