Books took me to places I could never go otherwise. They shared the confessions of people I'd never met and lives I'd never witnessed. The emotions I could never feel, and the events I hadn't experienced could all be found in those volumes. They were completely different by nature from TV shows or movies. The worlds of movies, soap operas, or cartoons were already so meticulous that there were no blanks left for me to fill in. These stories on screen existed exactly as they had been filmed and drawn. For example, if a book had the description, "A blond lady sits cross-legged on a brown cushion in a hexagon-shaped house," a visual adaptation would have everything else decided as well, from her skin tone and expression to even the length of her fingernails. There was nothing left for me to change in that world. But books were different. They had lots of blanks. Blanks between words and even between lines. I could squeeze myself in there and sit, or walk, or scribble down my thoughts. It didn't matter if I had no idea what the words meant. Turning the pages was half the battle.

Lo so, lo so, ma cosa ci devo fare? Inoltre "Almond" aveva fornito lo spunto per una delle canzoni presenti nell'ultimo album del rapper coreano August D Amigdala e la mia voglia di saperne di più è solo aumentata. E devo dire che ne sono rimasta molto affascinata.

Yunjae non è un ragazzino come gli altri. Per lui, un sorriso non significa gioia e non saprebbe riconoscere la tristezza dalle lacrime. Soffre di una condizione cerebrale chiamata alessitimia che gli rende difficile provare emozioni , come la paura o la rabbia. A causa di quella coppia di neuroni a forma di mandorla situata nella profondità del suo cervello, è cresciuto senza amici , ma la madre e la nonna hanno fatto comunque in modo di tenerlo al sicuro e senza problemi. Il loro piccolo appartamento, situato sopra la libreria dell’usato di famiglia, è decorato di bigliettini colorati che gli ricordano quando sorridere, quando ringraziare e perfino quando avere paura. Finché un giorno, alla vigilia di Natale, tutto cambia. Una terribile tragedia sconvolge il mondo monocorde di Yunjae . Incapace di affrontare la perdita, Yunjae si isola, ritirandosi nel silenzio, finché un sedicenne problematico, Gon, non arriva nella sua scuola. Stranamente i due stabiliscono subito un legame e Yunjae comincia ad aprirsi al mondo. La vita comincia lentamente a cambiare, ma quando Gon finisce per mettere la sua esistenza a rischio, Yunjae dovrà avere il coraggio di abbandonare tutte le abitudini e sicurezze ed essere l’eroe che non avrebbe mai immaginato di diventare.

Quando si inizia a leggere questa storia hai in mente cosa potrebbe descrivere, ma in realtà non se ne riescono davvero a percepire tutte le sfaccettature, non si riesce davvero a cogliere cosa significa trovarsi nella condizione di Yunjae. Più si va avanti nella lettura più le sfaccettature di una vita al di fuori della normalità emergono con tutte le sue più clamorose conseguenze. C'è nella vicenda del ragazzo il peso enorme di una incomprensione profonda che supera i contorni definiti di una socialità che si nutre soprattutto di sé stessi. Yunjae infatti, il protagonista della vicenda soffre di alessitimia: una condizione che gli rende molto difficile provare emozioni: dalla paura alla felicità, dalla pena alla gioia. Yunjae scivola nella sua normalità sfiorando gli altri ma non capendo davvero cosa vogliono dirgli, cosa provano, come si rapportano a lui. Sprezzante del pericolo, incosciente oltre misura, Yunjae segue la sua logica e non i suoi sentimenti. Neanche gli indizi che la madre cerca di insegnargli a cercare nelle espressioni degli altri sono sufficienti per appigliarsi a quello che gli succede attorno. Il ragazzo non si riconosce in niente, solo nella bolla di ciò che lo rende stabile. Cresciuto con la mamma e la nonna, nello spazio protetto di una libreria e dei consigli spassionati che lo invitano a integrarsi quanto più possibile, Yunjae naviga a vista finché tutto il suo mondo crolla e resta solo con la dimensione che lo domina di più questa sorta di indifferenza feroce che nasce dalla sua condizione ma che lo rende strano agli occhi di tutti. Nessuno lo capisce e lui non capisce nessuno. L'incomunicabilità quindi al centro, in un difetto congenito dell'amigdala e del cervello che si ripercuote a tutti i livelli. Ma le riflessioni di Sohn Won-Pyung vanno oltre e ci catapultano al centro di un dibattito che non è solo etico ma anche sostanziale. Cosa ci rende umani? Sono le nostre emozioni, la nostra capacità di compassione, i rapporti che riusciamo a instaurare? Quanto contano i pregiudizi nella rete di relazioni che instauriamo quotidianamente? Quanto rifuggiamo il diverso per la nostra incapacità di metterci nelle scarpe degli altri. Mentre Yunjae fa i conti con la perdita e la mancanza di integrazione, ci vengono presentati altri personaggi, come Gon o il vicino di casa del protagonista. che contribuiscono a rendere questa storia molto più tridimensionale e complessa di quello che inizialmente si può pensare. Perché è vero che al centro della scena c'è la alessitimia di Yunjae ma non è questo il punto. Il punto è che l'adolescenza è un periodo così complesso da bruciare chiunque, quando ci vengono a toccare nel profondo reagiamo in maniera violenta. Non è solo l'isolamento e la non comunicazione che ci colpiscono sono anche i tentativi maldestri di avvicinarsi a noi. Nel bene o nel male bisogna fare i conti con gli altri. Tutto ciò che arriva a sconvolgere i nostri equilibri diventa la spinta di un cambiamento che ha effetti a catena su tutto.

Il particolare da non dimenticare? Un libro…

Almond è la storia di un ragazzo coreano colpito dalla tragedia su più livelli, ma è anche la storia di un'amicizia, di una scoperta, di una rivoluzione e la riflessione profonda di cosa significa crescere e cambiare in un mondo che non sempre ci viene incontro. Buona lettura guys.

Feist, este foi o primeiro livro do clube da leitura mediado pela minha amiga @daniellevieirars, em parceria com a @HarperCollinsbrasil. ⁣ ⁣ É o primeiro livro da Saga dos Jubardentes. Espero que os outros dois sejam lançados logo. O autor acaba de lançar o segundo, nos EUA.⁣ ⁣ Um tijolão de 512 páginas. No começo senti um pouco de dificuldade com esta leitura. Achei o começo meio arrastado. E depois do primeiro capítulo, o cenário mudou e ficou mais atrativo.⁣ ⁣ Temos três personagens principais: Hatu, Hava e Donte, três jovens alunos que treinam num ambiente controlado por antigos mestres. Os jovens são alunos de uma academia de artes mortais e assassinatos. São treinados em simulações de combates e relacionamentos entre eles são proibidos.⁣ ⁣ Da metade da trama para frente, surge um novo núcleo de personagens, o ferreiro Declan, meu personagem favorito. Um moço simples, mas batalhador, amoroso e determinado a construiu um futuro melhor.⁣ ⁣ A trama tem um bom ritmo, a escrita do autor é fluida, a linguagem interessante e despertou meu interesse.
