Wesper hobbies hc:
When Jesper was younger he used to draw a lot.
He doesn’t tell anyone this bc he still has his sketchbook. Inside is a ton of drawings of Kaz.
One day, Nina finds it and teases him relentlessly for it, but promises she won’t tell anyone.
Now however, Jesper is really into origami. It gives him something to do with his hands that isn’t shooting or gambling.
It also helps him get more comfortable with his Durast powers. He uses them merely to fold the paper, but it’s already made him incredibly more comfortable with them.
He first learns how to do paper cranes and makes hundreds of them until Wylan tells him to make something else bc they have HUNDREDS.
He learns how to make little crows and gives them too all of the Crows.
He also gets really into making origami squirrels for some reason.
He also made a paper ring to “jokingly” propose to Wylan with, until Wylan actually proposed to him that night immediately after with a real ring.
Wylan does wear the paper one though. He loves it.
Wylan sees a complete change in Jes as he continues to do origami. Not only his newfound confidence and comfort in his Grisha powers, but he’s gambling much less.
Wylan has started water coloring. He at first is intrigued by the science behind it, but then learns he’s really good at it
Jesper gets him a watercolor palette for his birthday.
His favorite thing to paint is sunsets over the ocean. He also likes painting Jesper.
Jesper also gets into watercoloring as well, but admittedly is not as good as Wylan.
He really just uses it as an excuse to watch Wy paint because he’s enamored by how concentrated he is.
Occasionally Wylan will glance at Jesper staring at him while painting and break into the biggest smile he’s ever seen and Jesper melts into a puddle on the floor.
Wylan paints portraits of all of his friends and gives it to them as gifts.
This includes every painting of Jesper that he’s made, and Jesper insists on hanging every single one up on the wall.
There are over 50 watercolors of Jesper on the wall bc Jes loves posing for them and Wylan loves painting them.
For their wedding invitations, Wylan handpaints every single one of them.
And of course Jesper folds envelopes to send them all out in.
Jesper very nearly folds himself a suit out of paper until Wylan puts a stop to that.
However he does let Jesper fold many of the wedding decorations because he knows how much it helps him.
(Also off topic of this headcanon but Kaz walks Wylan down the aisle, I said what I said)

Do you have any tips or resources for improving at texturing? The stuff you’ve been sharing is brilliant— you capture the maxis feel so well!
Oh, thank you for asking, I'm quite flattered you think so! I have mostly been figuring stuff out through trial and error, so I'm hardly a texturing expert, but I can try and share what I've found works for me.
Firstly, wherever possible/practical I just steal from existing Maxis textures, LOL. Makes sense since we want to recreate that Maxis feel, right? If I can remember an existing texture that could be tweaked to work, then I go grab it at least as a reference. For example with the retextures of Alexander's little shorts-suit that I shared for the GoS challenge, I knew I wanted an oversized, hand-me-down denim jacket vibe... so why not go straight to the source and just grab a denim jacket texture from an adult mesh? Then it's just a matter of figuring out the "gaps" in the mapping and filling them in with airbrushing, clone tools, etc. Sometimes the final texture is completely different, but having the reference helped a lot. I'll also take or reference textures from TS3 and TS4 conversions.
On that note, I think it's immensely helpful for anyone working from a Maxis mesh to grab a UV map if possible. This thread of Maxis UV maps is great, but unfortunately not comprehensive - I can't find elder UV maps anywhere :( But still a great resource! It's especially helpful when you're changing something like necklines and shoes, which are often mapped awkwardly and make it really obvious when seams aren't aligned.
Full disclosure, I was already a digital artist, so I had a leg-up on certain aspects of learning to texture. But I still struggled a lot with hand-painting textures and would often get frustrated because what worked for my art didn't work with The Sims. Eventually I found brushes that worked best for me - this might differ from artist to artist, but I found that scaling airbrush tools down gave me the best balance of softness even for "hard" lines like seams, trim, etc. Using a harder brush stood out as looking too "digital" in-game.
Whenever I'm hand painting something from scratch, I first make sure my idea is possible by editing the alpha. I'll make the texture a bright floodfill like yellow, flatten any bump map, and then tweak the alpha how I'm imagining to see what parts are "meshed on" and where. This helps me figure out the boundaries of collars, necklines, hems, etc. in ways that aren't always obvious on a UV map. If the alpha can be edited the way I'm imagining, then I move on to adding small details like hems, buttons, etc.
Once I have these rough details, I start by adding "shape" to a flat colour with the airbrush tool. This means gradually building up shadows to give a sense of 3D. I often start from the sides to make sure the seams will be the same colour, though I do think it's best to go in afterwards with your UV maps to lighten up certain patches. Then I'll add highlights with the same technique, and start carving areas away to make folds and creases, etc. I do this before I add any texture. Often I'll start with a grey colour, to make recolouring easier later, but if I have a very specific colour in mind I'll do that one first and then make a desaturated version for recolouring later. Since I work with Maxis Match textures, it doesn't matter as much if you lose some detail with this process.
This process of building up a sense of 3D gradually and softly with the airbrush tool and shrinking the airbrush tool down to make finer lines instead of choosing an actual fine-line brush are the two biggest tips that I think improved my handpainted textures!
Also, and I mean this sincerely, but I make it look a bit crummy on purpose. EAxis textures are a wonderful blend of genuinely beautiful hand-painting and abhorrent photoskinning, all of which are flattened and smeared to squeeze onto 2000s hardware. Sometimes stretching or upscaling a texture is exactly what a recolour needs to achieve the "Maxis feel", you know? So don't stress too much about it. I always kind of laugh when I find myself obsessing over a tiny stray pixel or a mis-matched seam in my own content and then find the tackiest suit on MTS from 2004 like "looks great, unzip it". It's probably never gonna look as good in-game as it does in your graphics program anyway. Hair textures are where I truly embrace the fug because I know anyone who wants them is coming for exactly that. If people don't want smeary, slightly-dirty, mismatched-colour-groups hair textures, then they've probably found a different hair system that works for them, lol.
Oh, speaking of graphics programs, I use Krita for all my digital art and retexturing. If anyone is looking to get into making textures and doesn't have access to an art program, I highly recommend it for being free, open-source and powerful. If you're a beginner, then remember also that BodyShop crunches textures, especially for darker colours, so if your textures look pixellated in-game try using SimPE to build the DXTs instead for slightly different compression.
If it's an object I'm retexturing, I'll often clone the object in SimPE and then recolour the clone so that I can preview how it will look in SimPE without having to load the game. This isn't perfect, since there's no lighting in SimPE, so sometimes you won't notice little details that are meshed-on, but it's certainly faster than having to load the game every time, especially if you're making lots of little tweaks or stretching the object's mapping to its limits. I had to do this with the blackboards, the City Living toilets, and the bear chairs.
I think that's about it! If anyone has any more specific questions I can try and answer, and I'll try and add pictures that explain what I'm talking about a bit better the next time I go texture something. But in the end, I think "trial and error to find what works for you" is the best advice, along with "steal from other textures A LOT".

Carnival Costumes | Task 15
Fyodor - a gladiator. Golden armbands that cover his mark, a sculpted chest piece, a red skirt, a belt with a sheathed sword, a shield on his back. He’s fully committing to the bit for Declan and it’s fully going to bite him in the ass.
Glenda - Death Eater - but subtle. Glenda is political, not stupid. Her outfit is a typical red devil costume. Red devil horns, red leotard, red leggings, red makeup. But then there’s the small details. A silver skull mask worn on the side of her head. Comical skulls drawn on her forearms. If you know, you know. If you don’t, it’s still a fun look.
Clifford - “Hear no Evil”. Look, Clifford is booksmart, but he’s hardly the brains trust. He didn’t want a sexy outfit, he didn’t think Enes would want to go matchy, and he came up with what he thought was a funny joke. It’s a monkey costume. Like literally a monkey costume you could hire from the costume store that is essentially a onesie. It’s kinda cute, kinda silly. It does not look like a monkey.
Devereaux - A skeleton (Karate Kid style). He’s got the black outfit with the bones. It’s kinda cheesy. But then his face - god, his face. He’s handpainted it himself. It’s beautifully rendered in brush strokes of white and black and grey. The curve of the eye sockets is… oddly melancholy. And then he was given the “Return to Laure” shirt without much opportunity to say no, so now he’s just a skeleton that belongs to Laure.
Lonnie - Sir Not-Appearing-In-This-Show. As in, he isn’t there.
Cassidy - Carmilla. It’s a look that most people probably wouldn’t get, but she feels powerful and feminine and that’s all she cares about. Her dress is velvet and clings to her every curve. Long sleeves, a deep v-neck, and a train that pools around her feet. Her hair is teased out. Blood red lipstick graces her smile, smudged in deliberate places. Is this a practical outfit to do Halloween things in? Absolutely not. Does Cassidy care? Absolutely not.
Kimiko - Madge Maddox, her favourite musician. She’s got a big blue star painted across her face, full skeleton earrings dangling from her ears. She’s in platform glittery boots that she fully cannot balance in, and a striped sequined jumpsuit. Her hair is sculpted back against her head with more gel than even Oliver Hedley has used.
Rishan - full magician regalia. Like literally what he wears on stage. A three piece suit, decorated with black sequins and rhinestones to catch the light and give him that ethereal look. His coat has tails and he’s wearing a top hat. And stage makeup. Guyliner. Guyliner. He’s having a lot of fun walking around and doing magic tricks. It’s back to his roots, and it’s a breath of fresh air.
Whitney - he wasn’t planning on wearing a costume, but he also knew that he would feel Lily’s disapproving glare all across the festival. So he’s wearing plastic vampire fangs and a black cloak.
Harrison - a card shark. Yes, it’s terrible. He knows. That’s the point. His hair is slicked back and silvery-grey. There’s a fin stuck to his back. And the worst part - the worst part - is the cards crafted into his lapel and cuffs. He’s wearing a pair of fake pointy teeth that he has to take out for almost every conversation.
Jack - he’s a Snitch. He’s got gold glitter on his arms and cheeks and hair, he’s wearing dumb shiny gold shorts and a vest, and silver pipe-cleaner wings. He’s so proud of it.
Euphemia - The Lady of the Lake. She’s wearing a silvery, wide-sleeved dress that falls like water. There’s a braided green belt around her waist, and a matching braided crown. Her hair is loose and wavey. And she’s holding a sword. She’s very excited about the sword (don’t ask her about the sword, because she will jump into a long history lecture about it).
Shivaun - Dullahan. He didn’t have much time to prepare, but he wanted something to cover his face. He’s wearing an actual pumpkin on his head, with the insides carved out by magic and cleaned by magic so he doesn’t smell like pumpkin. He’s cut triangle eye holes and a zigzag mouth. The rest of his outfit is formalwear - a white shirt with puffy sleeves and frilly cuffs, and an embroidered waistcoat. His scarring is covered and his face is covered and he’s never felt more handsome.
James - For the sixth year in a row, Sirius Black. He’s in the same shitty black wig, which is getting progressively more knotted, the same school uniform, which is unbuttoned down to his navel, and the same Gryffindor tie, which is very loosely and sloppily tied. This year has a very significant extra though - a handheld mirror to occasionally blow kisses into.

Love the tags you gave my post and yes Pen really seems like a former vault dweller. 🤣 honestly I love the my time series so much. Good solar punk post apocalyptic stuff is hard to come by.
i was Immediately thinking fallout when i started playing and i was like !!!!!!!!!!!! to see that i wasn't the only one!
but, like, you know how you can take a vault suit and layer your own armor over it? pen has that. pen is Doing That. my guy has his own handpainted kit over a blue jumpsuit. he's Tall and Healthy and Weirdly Gung-Ho about Justice. if you told me that he crawled out of a vault and immediately began punching ne'er-do-wells i would Believe you. he saw the silver shroud and Laughed. he has fought a deathclaw
but yes! solarpunk post-apoc is exactly the genre, isn't it! that's a super apt description and it does it so Well...
like i love post-apoc. i love works like fallout and roadside picnic and appleseed A Lot, but my time has what they don't and that's this very specific feeling of, "we can rebuild! we can grow stronger and we can grow cleaner!" and that's the baseline of it. it makes the entire thing feel so dang hopeful. ive never played a game before that made me excited to install infrastructure
it's a really good series and i'm stoked that so many people enjoy it too!

Why Should you choose Wooden Trays instead of Plastic ones
In the realm of serving trays, wooden trays stand out as a superior choice for several conscious buyers. With their timeless appeal, eco-friendly nature, and superior craftsmanship, wooden trays outshine their plastic counterparts in every aspect. Let's explore why wooden trays are the ultimate choice for your kitchen and dining needs.
Wooden trays are good for health
Wooden trays are crafted from natural materials, free from harmful chemicals found in plastic trays. The absence of toxins ensures that your food remains safe and healthy when served on wooden trays. Unlike plastic trays, which may leach harmful chemicals into food, wooden trays offer peace of mind and promote a healthier dining experience. While plastic trays may offer convenience, especially in terms of cleaning, there's a darker side to their composition. Many plastics leach harmful chemicals, posing risks such as hormone disruption and long-term health concerns.
Wooden Trays are eco-friendly
Wooden trays are eco-friendly, as they are sourced from renewable resources such as sustainably managed forests. They are biodegradable and leave a smaller environmental footprint compared to plastic trays, which contribute to pollution and landfill waste. By choosing wooden trays, you're making a conscious decision to support sustainable practices and reduce your carbon footprint.
Durability and Longevity
Wooden trays are known for their durability and longevity. With proper care, they can last for years, retaining their beauty and functionality. In contrast, plastic trays are prone to wear and tear and may need frequent replacement. Wooden trays offer a timeless elegance that never goes out of style, making them a worthwhile investment for your kitchen.
Versatility and Aesthetic Appeal
Wooden trays come in a variety of designs and finishes, ranging from rustic to modern, to suit any decor style. Their natural beauty adds warmth and sophistication to any table setting, enhancing the overall dining experience. Plastic trays, on the other hand, lack the charm and character of wooden trays, often appearing cheap and disposable.
Supporting Local Craftsmanship
Wooden trays proudly showcase the talent and tradition of local artisans, particularly in regions like India renowned for their woodworking skills. By choosing wooden trays, consumers can support these craftsmen and preserve cultural heritage. Plastic trays, while not synonymous with traditional craftsmanship, may provide employment opportunities in manufacturing sectors. However, this comes at the expense of environmental and health concerns, posing a dilemma for conscientious consumers.
Wooden trays can be customized
For a truly unique and personal touch, consider custom or personalized wooden trays. These trays can be engraved with names, dates, or special messages, making them perfect for weddings, anniversaries, or housewarming gifts. They add a sentimental touch to any occasion and serve as cherished keepsakes for years to come.
Demerits of Plastic Trays
Plastic trays can release harmful chemicals into your food over time, posing health risks.
They contribute to pollution and landfill waste, as they take hundreds of years to decompose.
Plastic trays are prone to cracking, fading, and warping, requiring frequent replacement.
They lack the warmth and aesthetic appeal of wooden trays, often appearing cheap or disposable.
Handpainted wooden tray over printed plastic
Hand-painted wooden trays featuring Indian art forms are not only beautiful but also promote health and sustainability in your home. With designs inspired by Madhubani, Pattachitra, and other Indian art forms, these trays are a perfect way to showcase your love for culture and tradition. Choose wooden trays over plastic for a stylish, eco-friendly, and health-conscious home decor solution.
They are versatile also
Wooden trays are incredibly versatile and can be used for a wide range of purposes beyond serving food. They make stylish organizers for keys, jewelry, and other small items, or decorative accents for displaying candles, plants, or artwork. With their timeless appeal and functional versatility, wooden trays are a valuable addition to any home.
In the battle between wooden trays and plastic trays, the superiority of wooden trays is undeniable. From their natural composition and eco-friendly credentials to their durability, versatility, and support for local craftsmanship, wooden trays emerge as the clear winner. Elevate your serving experience with wooden trays and enjoy the timeless elegance and quality they bring to your table.
