Sketch dump time! A whole bunch of requests from the crazy ex-bird app

In Order: Maisie, Pam, Colette, Buster, Chester, Chuster ❤️🧡 (and a teeny Gus), Leon and Sandy (Leondy 💚💜), Bull, El Primo, and Mandy!

Extra notes about each sketch:

Maisie:

Her breath attack is a condensed foam material, similar to that of a fire extinguisher. Using a gas similar to a pressurized CO² (based on gas-based fire extinguishers!), she shoots it out at high speeds. These hits can potentially cause frostbite and even severe damage to the body if left unattended. She's quite powerful in this AU due to this ability 👀👀 being able to put out the fires and overpower another dragon's breath? Now THAT'S some queen moves right there! She can also simply spray out the foam substance at short range without that pressurized gas. This helps with more close range fire fighting work.

Her right wing and front leg were undeveloped, a disability she'd had since she hatched. However! With the help of mechanics, she uses these prosthetics to help her fly. Still gotta test out how to draw it to make sense, as well as sort out how it stays in place. I've been using inspiration from Toothless (HTTYD) and his tail that Hiccup made.

Pam:

Pam is a bulkier dragon, very much on the larger side of all of them. I'm at odds with myself to figure out whether ot not she'll have wings 🤔 so I had two copies there! Perhaps her wings may be a bit smaller if I do give her them.

Pam spits out molten magma that's stored up inside her as an attack. However, it can also be chunks of scrap metal that she stores up. Otherwise, it's just magma.

Though I didn't draw this, I want Pam to be very resilient to fire in general, as her species/family of dragon use their ability to spew this magma (technically Lava after ut leaves her body? I'll do more research on this...) in order to craft and shape metal. While other dragons need to spend some time to build up a fire hot enough, the Junker family line is able to do this much more easily. (Amber is a close second, though)

Her skin has the ability to crack and seep up lava out of it, potentially coating her body in this to give herself a temporary lava shield, something extremely hard to break through. (In the future, little Jessie may also be able to do this... however, Pam doesn't think she's ready at the moment and avoids the topic or any ideas of teaching her how.)

Colette:

Colette flies in a sort of funny way, twirling around and flapping her wings to maintain somewhat of a chaotic flight pattern. Think of a snake slithering through the sky, but with large wings and the grace of... a teenage dragon (not much, but it does work).

When she gets better at flying...pray and hope she isn't able to catch up to her favourite brawlers cause she isn't ever gonna let go of them 💀 It makes for a great attack, actually! Charging at enemies and coiling around them like a snake to prevent movement, like a big hug ❤️ she just loves everyone SO much 😍

Buster:

Finally kinda set on a design for this funky guy! He's a larger dragon (smaller than El Primo or Frank, but still definitely up there in size)

His wings never quite grew fully, so he wouldn't be able to fly 😔 however, that'll never stop him and his dreams of being a cool movie star 🧡🧡

Buster, at the heart of it, is an unstoppable force when he sets his mind to something. He'll charge in with the same ferocity as his favouite protagonists, rivalling the audacity and hard-headed nature of even Bull! All while doing so for his friends 💪 we love Buster in this AU frfr

Chester:

Chester always has theatrics when he flies. Flips, spins, and fun aerodynamic movements up in the sky! He's gotta compensate for his lack of speed compared to other wyverns after all, but he thinks he's pretty great 😎

Loved drawing this kinda unique pose tbh! That's what I loved with these drawings, I got to experiment without really thinking too much for em with how polished and clean that look. It was very fun! 🔥

Chuster ft. Gus❤️🧡:

We love some goofy gays here 🥹❤️🧡 I just wanted to let em have a little nuzzle + smooch! Dragons don't necessarily kiss, but little side boops like this are the equivalent of a cheek kiss.

Also, a little Gus on the side 🥹🥹 I love this sort of found family dynamic that have! Buster being the cool dad vibe/big bro to Gus, and then Buster being in a relationship with Chester so that he's also a cool dad too 😎 Gus loved these two guys from the very start, they're funny 🤭 never a boring day for these silly lads.

Leondy 💚💜:

My beloveds 🤲 I really do cherish the ship, as well as strong friendship Sandy and Leon have. (Btw in my HCs, Leon and Sandy are 13 & 14 respectively, just to clear that up!)

Sandy, I've mentioned a few times, is very inspired by Capybaras, so Leon finding one is just perfect 🤭 silly little deadpan face lads.

Bull:

BULLDOZERRRR- What a lad! Bull is inspired by- uh, Bulls! Great creatures, large bodies and thick necks to support those headstrong charges 🐂 I love making his posture all confident, strong steps to say, "Yeah. You TRY and stand up to me. I DARE you." Don't wanna mess with him on most days 🏃‍♀️💨💨

El Primo:

Still figuring out a full-body for El Primo, bit he's roughly the same size as Bull! (Maybe a bit bigger)

El Primo has got really small wings, similar to his El Dragón skin. Even his scales and horns are inspired by that mostly! Love when characters have preexisting dragon themed skins 🤭 makes it a lot easier to make ideas!

His "mask" is actually just body paint. He has similar paint on his body, really showing off the vibrant colours and persona he puts on for the crowds.

He WILL beat up his enemies into a pulp in matches. Thank goodness there's the gem powered regeneration and the respawn system in place 😭 I plan to give him a very strong body and tail, enough to support him when he needs to go on his hind legs and overpower his opponents. Buster is designed in a similar way as well!

Mandy:

Last but not least, the Queen of Candy herself. Not even the Dragon AU let's her escape fast food work 😔😔

Her super attack is purely a magical sugar-based rainbow blast, as shown in the sketch. Also, I'm now realizing that I forgot her red spots oml- No wonder she looks so empty 💀 uhh sorry about that, lads 😭 I'll redraw her one day to show off that glowing effect of her spots 🥹🥹

Day: 3 Something stolen

Idia x gender neutral reader

I didn’t know how this would go. And I still don’t 😎

Idia didn’t have many friends. No let me rephrase that, Idia BARELY had any friends. You could probably count them on one finger honestly.

So when you came along Ortho was so happy!! His nii-San finally had a friend! You spend a lot of times with the older shroud brother You played any and all games and just vibed.

He liked having you around and you liked having him around. So it was a win win situation, plus Ortho was super happy so hey! Extra points!

Idia also had tons of cool stuff in his room. Super techy too! And oh how comfortable his chair and bed are. The first time you sat on them you fell asleep, he just let you be for a bit tbh…

But as you too got closer he started realizing his feelings for you. You were just, well, you! You were amazing! I mean come on how could he not? Everyone saw how amazing you were!

But he didn’t tell you, no he would never, he couldn’t ruin what you guys already had ok? So he sat on his feelings. Pushed them way WAY deeper down than he should’ve, anything to make sure you stayed with him, friend or lover, he was ok with it.

But the day you confessed to him he was, well, shocked. You? Liked him? Idia Shroud? Watchmen of the isle of woe? Are you sure? Did you hit your head? You must’ve hit your head!

And you kept telling him that no Idia, I didn’t hit my head you stupid blue flame.

So now there you were. Dating the one and only Idia shroud. He was beaming, even Azul noted the difference in his mood. He just brushed it off, but Azul could tell when his club mate was smiling and was actually(sorta) communicating with people!

Lilia was the second to ask him about it and again he brushed it off. But you can’t hide stuff from papa Lilia! Come on Idia you should know that by now! So he ended up telling him about you. Everything he loved. Your face, your smile, your eyes, your hands, the way you laugh, the was you look when you concentrate on something, the way you get happy after winning a game or level you’ve been stuck on. He loved everything. Lilia thought it was adorable and teased him over it for a bit.

But he couldn’t stay in his little safe bubble with only you and Ortho. No no, he had a house warden meeting to attend. And in the first time since ever he was going in person after both Azul AND Vil nagged him into it. So he had to change into his hoodie. The one he always wears. But where oh where could his beloved hoodie be? In fact, where has his headphones gone as well?! And his charger? AND his pillow?!

Ok something was wrong, Ortho get in here right now! Ortho? OH NO THEY TOOK ORTHO!!! Cue sad Idia crying. He immediately calls you, but ends up face timing you instead. When you pick up the phone you look at him confused while eating chips “Hey Idy, everything ok? You look sad” you note while crunching on your salty treat.

“Yuu!! The worse thing happened! Someone stole my hoodie, charger, headphones, pillow. And worse of all, oh worse of all they took my adorable younger brother” he replied with sorrow in his voice.

Your laugh surprised him though, really surprised him “Idy no one stole those stuff!” You exclaimed with a chuckle. He looked at you confused and as to say ‘Tf do you mean Yuu? I’m having a mental breakdown here be so ffr rn’ “Idias babe” you shift your camera as to show all of you.

And there were all the stuff he’s missing. His headphones on top your head, you were wearing his hoodie, the charger next to you as you charged your phone and pillow on your lap. “I’m borrowing them love. Calm down” He store there, silent, stunned, betrayed by the one he loved most.

“Ortho is playing with Grim right now. So calm down everything is ok” He opened his mouth to speak but all that came out was a laugh “what?” You asked, also laughing now “nothing nothing, keep them, I have spares” he said as he got out another hoodie, identical to the one you were wearing.

He should’ve guessed you stole it, I mean come on, who would steal from him? It made no sense. Only you were bold enough to do something like that, one of the reasons he loved you.

“But return Ortho! I need

“Aww! I was hoping you forgot!”

This was something to write. Tbh I winged most of it 💃🕺

Today's mix:

Global Underground 016: Cape Town by Dave Seaman 2000 Progressive House / Progressive Trance

Back on my Global Underground grind this week to check out this turn-of-the-millennium double-disc mix from the one and only Dave Seaman, the guy who, among other things, managed to transform UK publication Mixmag from a DJ newsletter into a biblical monthly electronic music magazine, while also becoming one of the world's most revered DJs. Simply put, you can credit a significant portion of electronic dance music's growth and spread to him.

But, just like with Seaman's Buenos Aires set, I think that I might have an unpopular opinion about this one too, which represents Global Underground's first ever dispatch from Africa. See, something that I seem to keep running into with these showcases of super popular DJs (which is a corny concept on its face, to be honest 🙄) is overall inconsistency. One disc will range from pretty great to excellent, and the other will be pretty lackluster, in comparison. But to me, Seaman's discs serve as exceptions; they are neither pretty great, nor are they lackluster; they're just steadily good. And most of the reviews I've read for both this Cape Town release and the Buenos Aires one don't happen to express that opinion; the majority of them seem to think that Buenos Aires is fantastic, and this one is a tick or two below it.

Now, while, overall, I think the darker disc 1 is the stronger affair here, this release's greatest moments still seem to come in the second disc, with a totally sublime three-song run on its back half, starting with short-lived trio Nerva's "Modo VII (Santo Nerva de Mercia Mix)," followed by back-to-back tracks from duo Way Out West, of which the great Nick Warren—who himself put out the most spellbinding GU disc I've ever heard: the second one from his Brazil installment—is a member. First, Way Out West deliver "The Fall," which, personally, hit me *really* hard, because it samples the vocals that were used in one of my most favorite ambient tunes of all time, Mixmaster Morris' pretty legendary remix of Coldcut's "Autumn Leaves;" and then Seaman follows that up with a terrific Way Out West remix of James Holden's "Horizons." I'm basically an enormous sucker for a trance tune that incorporates rich and classy piano stabs, and a song like that one serves as a prime example of it (Max Graham's "Bar None" is another one that immediately comes to mind too, by the way, although it's not on this mix 😌).

And there's some great songs on the first disc too, but none of them really beat Bill Hamel's "Quadrant Dub" remix of Inertia's "Vellum." That one makes for a pretty transcendent, densely-packed climber in its first half. Plus, the "Futureshock Instrumental" of Moby's "Porcelain" is really cool too, as the duo takes the original's iconic strings and chops off their ends in order to meld them with a chugging mid-90s-type of house drumbeat 😎.

So, not fully bowled over by either of these discs, but definitely not disappointed with them either. Not the best GU mix I've ever come across, but also definitely not the worst. Just a steady-Eddie stream of good dance tunes, pretty much the whole way through.

anyways another mostly personal post but I've been thinking about that one venty-ish post I made about the hexsquad the other day and I think the fact that I wrote it at 3 AM shows lmao.

When it comes down to it, The Owl House is just a fun kids' show. We can't expect it to be perfect, and I can't expect it to go the way I want it to and center on my favorite characters.

I'll always be disappointed that Gus and Willow don't play a bigger role in the overarching story, but I think right now I'm just sad that I don't have the energy to appreciate the story / my favorite characters as much as I used to.

Here's to you guys who still have the energy to create and love these characters! May I one day join you again and leave effusive comments on your works!

On a (tangentially) related note, I don't think I'm really going to keep reblogging those posts about reblogs and likes and shit. They're kinda guilt trippy and don't really do anything.

Instead, I'll leave you this handy tip:

Summary: Katya first meets Steve in Glandus' baby class and they become fast friends. As the years go by, the two only become closer and eventually some new feelings develop. But what happens when the Emperor's Coven threatens to come between them?

Speaking of.... Friendship (And More) Across Battle Lines: my 60K woes Stevatya masterpiece 🌟 Summary: Through a series of chance meetings Steve, a loyal scout in the Emperor's Coven, gets to know Katya, an intriguing witch who has had her fair share of clashes with the Emperor's system. He finds himself drawn to her but there's a problem--she only knows him outside of uniform.

Finding Comfort Together, The Way Old Friends Do: Hunter (and Huntlow) centric post-King's Tide fic that I really like a lot 😋 Summary: It has been three weeks since the Hexsquad has arrived in the human realm and everyone has been feeling a bit down. All Hunter wants is to cheer up his friends. Or, 5 times Hunter helps his friends feel better and 1 time they help him feel better.

I went back and forth on which fic this spot should go to, but settled on You're Actually Pretty Cool: A Katya & Mattholomule bonding story with some stevatya and gustho 😎 Summary: Steve and Katya have been dating several months now, and Steve thinks it's time for an important step in their relationship: letting his girlfriend spend some quality time with his younger brother. Mattholomule isn't looking forward to it…what exactly are they even supposed to talk about? (Gus. He talks about Gus.) I actually just reread this one because I'm planning to do two sequels!

And last but not least, for my Andi Mack peeps, Sometimes There's A Nice Person On The Inside Trying To Get Out: Kira should have been redeemed and this is a hill I am willing to die on 😤 Summary: "Why do you do that? Make me pick?" An alternate scene where Kira actually apologizes to TJ and maybe even helps him?

First impression : ohhh a baby boy baby

Impression now : still baby boy but in the "oh my god I didn't expect you to get all that trauma" sense

Favorite moment : he was super cool in Through The Looking Glass Ruins (even tho he got overshadowed by Lumity, which is a shame). You get to see that he is indeed a prodigy in Illusions

Idea for a story : A story where he unpacks what he saw in King's Tide. I'm sure he saw things that Hunter and Luz also saw and he needs to talk about it

Unpopular opinion : Him and Matt are just friends? Idk if it's unpopular, I just prefer them as buds

Favorite relationship: his friendship with Hunter and Willow is very nice. I want to see more shenanigans with these three.

Favorite headcanon : i don't know??? He is unfortunately not a Main Blorbo, so I have no idea

First impression : oh you are little shit. I love you already, keep being sassy and a menace

Impression now : he is kinda like Zuko, but jokes on you i love Zuko

Favorite moment : Any Sport In A Storm. Please let this child have friends and be free. (Also his confrontation with Belos in Hollow Mind because I am cruel.)

Idea for a story : some nice Huntlow angst/comfort.

Unpopular opinion : he doesn't have fucked up hands, he just doesn't like touching things with them

Favorite relationship : his relationship with Luz needs to be explored more, it's so interesting. They're trauma buddies and also siblings 😎

Favorite headcanon : he is Transgender. Idk in which direction but he is.

- Cool fight scenes

A SHORT LUMITY FIGHT

Now here me out. I love lumity as much as the next person but do you remember how amity got a bit mad at Luz . Ya I want to see something like that but it's more about Luz lieing to her again. It wouldn't be anything too big . Nothing boarding on breakup anything. Just a quick short little spat . But then again I'm pretty sure all of the LUMITY shippers will have my head burned at the steak for even suggesting this. Hence why it's at the bottom of the list.

And willow tried out this gauntlet that can control plants . Guys she is so much powerful now. I would love if willow and Gus get to retry those artifacts . Not only would this make them come full figurative circle showing off how much they've grown sense season 1 . But it'll just look really cool 😎.

Hunter tells Daru that he is a grimwalker

I just feel like if we tell Darius. it'll have much more of an emotional impact than if we tell eda. Because of 3 reasons.

A: eda was against the emperor in the first place this would only make her more against him. Meanwhile with Darius I got to watch his love for hunter grow. So for him to learn that hunter is a grimwalker. It'll be incredibly satisfying to see him protect hunter.

B: Luz has already told eda and king about the whole "belos is Phillip" thing. And basically just recapd hallow mind . Sooooooooooo she probably already knows.

And

C: and this is very important

Darius already has a pre established history with the previous golden guard.

They where his mentor.

Sooooooooooo ya I think it would have an emotional impact .

Today's mix:

Global Underground 018: Amsterdam by Nick Warren 2000 Progressive House / Trance / Tribal House

Alright, folks, this is it; no more posting from me for the foreseeable future about this lauded and beloved progressive dance series whose popularity I've never really been quite able to fully grasp. Some sets in the early days of this constant showcase of the world's foremost globetrotting DJs have been nothing short of great, but I've found most to be inconsistent at best. And I'm sad to say that, with this last dispatch for a long while from the Global Underground, we are going out today with a near-full-blown whimper 😔.

And I really didn't think it was going to happen here with Nick Warren, the guy who, just ten installments prior, happened to deliver one of the greatest discs I've ever heard in my life, with the second one off of his Brazil mix, that jam-packed itself with a slew of breathtaking breakbeat-infused trance excursions. But with this 2000 release that reflected some recent sets he had done in Amsterdam at the time, he went with two discs of a much chiller blend of progressive house and some trance, and it, unfortunately, turned out to be, largely, a bore.

But like with most other times that I seem to be unenthralled by a bunch of these GU releases, a lot of people, especially progressive house junkies, will definitely disagree with me here. But I guess I just mostly don't really get this era of progressive house at all. I mean, it's cool to reformulate and also create and use new sounds that typical house tunes don't have, but I'm finding that how those sounds were woven during this time period really isn't all that interesting to me. The builds are pretty blah and then they just seem to plateau and not do much of anything afterwards 🤷‍♂️; miss me with most of it.

So, CD 1, which, to me, is the more engaging of these two discs, is, ironically, the warm-up set. And its closer, "States of Mind," by Soul Driver, appears to be its best track, as it really finds its groove whenever it decides to unleash this Eastern-spiritual, new agey vocal sample. And that probably sounds a little bit corny from the way that I'm describing it, but trust me, it goes 😎.

And then leave it to the legendary German techno and trance pioneer Pascal F.E.O.S. to be the one to upstage all of these other relative newcomers here, with his offering on the second disc, "Reformatted," under his Sonic Infusion moniker. There's a terrific seep-in of lush and outer-spacey string pads on this trance banger, as he then works towards a constantly stabbing synth melody, while also introducing a warm and chugging backbeat behind it. Just such a fantastic, full, and blissful dance track 😌.

So, I'm not sure exactly where I'm off to next with these electronic compilation and DJ mix posts, but I think it's finally time for me to put the Global Underground to rest for a long while ✌.
