I have literally never thought of this guy at all, but as of five minutes ago I've created a little backstory for her and several headcanons
Her name is Aster, and she was created by the Haltmann Works company a long time before joining the GSA. She somehow got sentience (I haven't figured that part out yet) and escaped the company's control by making a wish from Star Dream. She spent a while wandering the galaxy trying to decide who she wanted to be now that she had sentience and ran into a few Star Warriors who were defending a planet. Inspired by their need to protect the galaxy, Aster started training to be a Star Warrior and eventually became part of the army.
She also became acquaintances with Meta Knight at some point. The two were never really friends per se, but Meta Knight seemed to be more comfortable around her than many others (besides Jecra and Garlude obviously) since he used to work for Nightmare, and she used to work for Haltmann Works. Aster would never know why Meta Knight went on missions with her slightly more than others, or why he never cared that she was a robot, but maybe if she had lived through the war they could've been friends, even for just a bit.

Introducing...NISMO*ੈ✩‧₊˚
Tumblr media
Prior GSA member, she is an archer powerhouse. Using arrowheads made from her unusual and ever-growing crystal horns, she can scope out hundreds of enemies from Nightmare Enterprises. Frequently sent to work with one of the GSA's top solider, Sir Metaknight. 🦇⚔️🫐
Tumblr media
Though despite the sad appearance her masks downturned shape may portray, she is heeps more cheery then the blue knight. Often going as far to tease him, but always brightening his mood (even through his denial)
Tumblr media
After the GSA decided to disband, she continued wearing her star badge. Through this, she managed to navigate her way through off-handed conversations and small mentions straight back to MK, and to the beautiful Dreamland. Where she meets the King's hoard of waddle dees. The GSA had plenty of trained waddle dees working to maintain and protect large bases, all in which she held high respects, but none were quite like the largely spoken about and highly regarded Bandana Dee. Whom she made very quick friends with, even going as far to use scrap Iggy Woods wood and her crystals to make him a custom spear. (A cherished gift)

IS THAT A GRAIL!?
King Fisher Saga (Part 1.5) The Accidental Holder of the Grail
How did King Fisher get a hold of the Grail? Well, it's very similar to how... Meta Knight became the wieldier of Galaxia.
(Canonically) They don't find out that Fisher has the grail this way... It is far more glorious than this.
This came up on my feed, and I couldn't help but think about putting Fisher in this scenario with the Grail. Uther doesn't find out that Fisher has "the grail" until it's too late: Fisher & his kingdom disappeared from the galaxy already...
I changed up the incident of how Fisher got maimed:
During Fisher's time on the galactic council, he was assigned Falspar as his bodyguard... Falspar, still young and naive... constantly questioned the king and his actions. Making these business deals, being merciless when someone could pay the deadline, allowing goods to be smuggled, & hoarding away goods... (Falspar was unaware that the GSA & higher-ups of the council endorsed this.)
This led to Fisher justifying to Falspar his actions, "I'm doing what's necessary," "You wouldn't understand," "You know nothing of the world or me..." to "You don't know how hard I worked to get here" Fisher knew all too well that his power lay within his planet's wealth & reputation...
Plus, he just really wanted to fit in, what's wrong with that...
Besides, there's been an increase in monster threats to the kingdom as of late... he's been having to order and hire more protection. (Well, no matter, that's just war, right? But it has been getting more expensive... gotta keep giving the people what they want.)
Despite all this, however, he never requested to change knights... Fisher knew he was guilty, but he just had famed ignorance... so maybe that's why he kept Falspar... he wanted someone to call him terrible.
One day, Fisher discovered how to create "dimensional fabric..." this was a cloth used by Nightmare that allowed him to hide himself from the galaxy... And he had figured out the alchemic recipe.
(He didn't want to make any promises to the council, so just in case the experiment was a failure... he kept the project top secret. The very last ingredient for the cloth was a special ore... one that was heavily guarded by Nightmare's monsters.)
He needed Falspar and his squadron to come with him... for this little expedition... Unbeknownst to both of them... The cave that they had come to collect the ores from...was a demon hoard. And that hoard was guarding something far more valuable than ore...
In truth, Falspar had the potential to become the keeper of the grail as well, but it chose Fisher! Blessed the holy grail chose Fisher. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN & WHY!?
Hope you all stick around to find out~

Willa Hoard, also known as “Billie” was a social studies teacher at Chesapeake High School and ran the school’s GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) Organization. On October 3, he was placed on indefinite leave by the school, with few details provided to parents at the time.
On November 2, disturbing video footage began circulating on Twitter from inside Hoard’s classroom. The videos originated on Facebook, first posted by a concerned mother.
In one video, two students are seen laying on the ground together, with one grinding on or humping the other in the middle of a class lecture. Another clip shows one student sucking at the stomach of another student. Both clips took place while Hoard was present in the room, apparently unconcerned by the behavior.
But the sexual behavior Hoard allowed in his class was just one of many disturbing components of the story. Hoard had apparently been communicating with students through unmonitored channels, in flagrant violation of safeguarding ethics. In some screenshots, students are seen referring to Hoard as “mom” or “mother.”

A trans teacher who let his classroom be a safe space for the TQ+ type let students literally hump each other in class. And for being the “cool” teacher the students called him “Mom”.
A trans-identified male high school teacher in Anne Arundel County, Maryland has been placed on indefinite leave after troubling information surfaced regarding his conduct with students.
Willa Hoard, also known as “Billie” was a social studies teacher at Chesapeake High School and ran the school’s GSA (Gay-Straight Alliance) Organization. On October 3, he was placed on indefinite leave by the school, with few details provided to parents at the time.
But on November 2, disturbing video footage began circulating on Twitter from inside Hoard’s classroom.
Hoard’s classroom was labelled a “safe space” for “LGBTQ+ students” by the school at the direction of the GSA. So whether a student was in class or not, if they reported to a teacher that they needed a “safe space,” they could go to Hoard’s classroom.
Tumblr media
At least one concerned parent had taken snaps of Discord and Instagram conversations she found of Hoard having with students to school Principal J. Yore earlier this year, but nothing was reportedly done until the disturbing videos first began to circulate on Facebook.
On October 3, parents and guardians received a letterfrom Principal Yore who announced that Hoard would be “away from [the] building indefinitely.”
The letter failed to address the videos showing what had occurred during Hoard’s GSA meeting. While it stated a substitute who will provide “high-quality instruction and support” will be introduced, the letter did not contain any plan to guarantee student safeguarding, nor did it provide any indication of wrongdoing.
The news of Hoard’s extracurricular communication with students, as well as his leave, was first reported on by independent Maryland journalist Brian Griffiths on October 3.
According to Griffiths, Hoard had only begun transitioning earlier this year, and had previously gone under the name William Edward Hoard.
In a February Medium Post, Hoard wrote: “So it turns out I’m a woman. Surprise! I guess, to be more specific, I am a woman of the transgender variety. Which is to say that I am a woman who was mistaken for a little boy at birth, whose family and society ran with that since my body matched the expectations they had, first for a boy and later for a man, who only fully realized my own womanhood a few years ago and who is just now telling the world that-well intentioned as I am sure it was-we were all wrong about my gender.”
Griffiths also reported that a mother at the school who had clashed with Hoard over safeguarding concerns had been subjected to an attempted peace order as a result of her critiques.
Kristy Rush began publicly criticizing the school’s GSA after seeing posts threatening disciplinary repercussions for “deadnaming” and “misgendering” students or staff. According to Rush, the school had deemed “dead naming” a form of “sexual harassment,” and parents who confronted administration about the policy were told that disciplinary action for the listed offenses was discussed with the GSA and determined on a “case-by-case” basis.
As her daughter was a GSA member, Rush then went through her phone and computer out of concern.
She then found that Hoard had been communicating with his students on unofficial apps like Discord, Instagram, and Facebook. Rush withdrew her daughter from the school, reporting that after she joined the club “her behavior began to change.” Rush has also posted several statements regarding Hoard and the GSA on her Facebook, including videos of activity which allegedly occurred in Hoard’s classroom.
In one video Rush posed to her Facebook, a student wearing a banana costume and fishnets is seen dancing. The student’s underwear are clearly visible when she turns around. Rush also posted a video of students “humping” in a classroom during a GSA meeting. Both are the videos now circulating on Twitter.
It was after her vocal criticisms that Hoard then reportedly filed the peace order against Rush. The order was recently dismissed, but Rush has said that local LGBT activists labelled her and other parents who were concerned about Hoard “transphobic” at school board meetings.
Tumblr media
According to Libs of TikTok, prior to being put on indefinite leave, Hoard had also encouraged student members of the GSA to call the police to conduct wellness checks on Rush’s daughter, Lulu.
Police reported to Rush’s homes on two separate instances as they had received calls that Lulu was suicidal and attempted to harm herself when she was merely sleeping.
Tumblr media
Although Hoard is not allowed on school grounds, there has been speculation that students have maintained contact with him through private channels.
He remains active on TikTok and has apparently encouraged graduating students to message him directly on Instagram.

A friend implored me to share my KirbyOCs on here. x3 I have 2 but here's my favorite Agape.
I've had this Kirby OC since I was like 7yrs old lol. I very rarely ever drew them and just kinda rotated them in my head for years. I finally started solidifying their appearance and character design in the last couple years cuz I really wanted to join in on the Kirby fandom's love for their characters. >.< but I still haven't lol
Their name is Agape (ah-gah-pay), tho I'm sure I mispronounce it, which is the old Greek word for the love for all things, Aka ur instinctual love for even strangers and the want to see them happy. The reason u smile at a baby when they look at you or feel sympathy and hurt when u see someone crying.
Since Amazing Mirror was my first Kirby game, I'd tried making a Chip into a Star Warrior. I loved the Emerald Spray from the game as well so their base color is that emerald/mint green (but more pastel) and their fur is a creamy yellow. Their cheekies and eyes are a light pastel pink. Once Squeak Squad came out and the Animal copy ability was released, I was more excited for them. Their design has shifted a lot since then (their fur used to be a lil hoodie the way Animal's is) but this is their design as of now! :D I'm going to try and doodle some more so I can show their adopted brother too, which is actually just Kimyrn as an AU cameo into Kirby lmfaoooo
They were a medic in the GSA. Their inate power was that they can shapeshift into anything they've bitten/ate. Some of their favorites are to turn their fur into frosting or custard to give others a sweet treat. Because of their ability, before they joined the GSA, they were a bit of an outcast. People didn't trust them and since there is no way to tell if someone is themselves or Agape playing a game, people would grow resentful of Agape and the mistrust they sowed in the communities they lived in. They learned not to turn into others without their explicit consent, but it didn't stop the inherent distrust of their person. If a monster attacked and no one saw Agape, they'd often blame Agape for the attack. The GSA was on the chase for them, having believed these rumors of a monster that bounced from town to town / planet to planet trying to trick people into letting it live in their homes only to destroy it. When they finally caught up to Agape, scared and alone, it became clear that this creature just had the misfortune of having an ability no one trusted. Agape joined the GSA to finally have a community that would love and trust them... and they paid it forward in a hunderedfold.
Agape became a medic and a fierce warrior. What good was a medic that couldn't fight their way into a monster hoard to save you? They loved all their friends with such a sweet passion that the other Star Warriors began to wonder how anyone had ever hated them. Agape was always willing to comfort and cuddle others, especially the wounded were showered in affection. When the Kirby anime made the remark that Star Warriors give their Warp Stars to those that truly love them for protection, and that they would return to that person on their own, I started tangling Warp Stars in Agape's fur. I feel like their unconditional love for everyone in their community made people trust them with their Stars. Agape cares for each and every one of them in their care.

MK 8 14 16? 👉🏽👈🏽
8. Bad memories/experiences
Meta Knight has a lot of those! Since I somewhat mix anime and game canon, but mostly just take historical stuff from the anime (some of MK’s backstory, Nightmare Enterprises, how Galaxia came to be), the worst would probably be those he has from fighting in the GSA in the war against NME. Particularly, times he’d had to fight his own friends to the death, times he couldn’t save his own friends and had to leave them behind, times he watched his fellow soldiers die… you can probably see a pattern here. Those memories are a big part of why he’s so hesitant to form close relationships with people while simultaneously being extremely focused on protecting everyone. He’s, internally, terrified of the possibility of losing more people he cares about, to the point of being somewhat obsessed with making sure that can’t happen… Sometimes to the point that he ends up being the one hurting them.
In modern times, his worst memories are probably just those involving being possessed(Epic Yarn, early Star Allies), or being trapped in the Mirror World after losing his duel with DMK.
14. Ingrained habits/forces of habit
I’ve made a post about this a while back, but I’ll say it again: taking the high ground in any situation where that’s possible. Standing on tree branches, countertops, tables, perches built specifically for him, walls, chairs, on top of the Halberd, Lor’s emblem even when she tells him to get off… It’s mildly entertaining from an outside perspective, seeing him stand in odd places like that, but the truth is he’s constantly stuck in the mindset of higher = safer. In battle, it was key to try and be above your opponent; having the lower ground could, and often did, mean death.
Fun fact, that also ties into a good number of his fights; starting up in a high place and then jumping down and fighting on level ground is, paired with always offering a sword, his way of saying “I am making sure this is a fair fight; neither of us have any advantages or disadvantages, outside of our own strengths and weaknesses.”
Another seemingly innocent habit with less innocent origins is his tendency to practically hoard and hide anything sweet. In his days in the GSA, stuff like candy was an extremely rare treat; if someone had candy, it wasn’t all that rare for people to fight them for it, given that rations were often limited in the first place, and even more often less than appetizing once NME started interrupting supply chains and food was arriving less than fresh. If you had something sweet and wanted to save it, you had to hide it. Alternatively, you could trade it for stuff due to its high demand, though younger Meta didn’t focus on that kind of value.
It’s also why chocolate is such a comfort food to him; it was a reward in the war, whether by higher ups or from himself when he’d let himself get into his own stash for whatever reason, so it has more pleasant associations in his mind. It also serves as an extremely useful indicator for how he’s doing, because if he’s eating enough of it to be caught, chances are he’s trying to distract himself from a problem.
16. Dark secrets/’skeletons in the closet’
Hmm… this is a tough one, since he doesn’t really have too many secrets (that aren’t trauma-related) that aren’t also somewhat well-known at this point? I guess you could consider his knowledge of torture methods a dark secret? Since he knows a lot more about those than most would assume. He initially learned about the subject during his GSA days while staying with someone who was in charge of doing that sort of thing, took an interest in it and did some research himself, then held on to what he found out because money threats of torture can be exchanged for goods and services truths and information. It’s also a very effective way to really communicate his hatred of and contempt towards someone.
You could consider his wild streak(s) one as well, but that isn’t really a secret that he keeps so much as it just isn’t something a lot of people looked into. It can be split into two things, though: there was a time when he’d threaten and/or attack anyone he considered suspicious or who he just didn’t vibe with, which had been shortly after arriving to Popstar, and then there was his, uh… Somewhat Excessive Violence on his way to summon Nova. Galaxia can be powered up with souls, in turn also granting him a bit more strength and buffing his own abilities, and he had to prepare for his fight with the strongest warrior somehow... Just, uh, Don’t Worry About It!

(In truth, he's a little mix of both, but who is the dominant half... :3)
Before you guys pick, I base this on the essence of the character, not their story exactly.
Keep reading if you wanna hear the explanation & lore!
If not, feel free to vote!
How would the knights react if they were thrown into this universe...
Examples: Sir Falspar - (Sir Percival)
Sir Percival is known to be foolish & naive but overall the kindest knight in the nights of the roundtable. Being the heart of the roundtable...
So, how do I work this into the story...
During Sir Uther's cruel reign as leader of the GSA, Sir Falspar was named "The Fool" as punishment for his failure to protect the Fisher King. Why, you may ask because the Fisher King (in this story) was a d*ck! He was one of Uther's backers and was a corrupt king... long story short, he chose to save his men and the people of the kingdom rather than the Fisher King himself.
With Sir Nonsurat being his mentor...
Sir Nonsurat saw too much of his (younger self) in Falspar, and he tried to have him adopt a more serious attitude. He was never cruel to him (like Uther was to him) but tried to have him act a certain way... so he wouldn't get in trouble.
"Never ask to question your superiors" or "always do what you're are told"... that is how you survive here...
Despite that, Falspar's gentle heart, carefree attitude, and nature shined, which always made Sir Nonsurat constantly remind him to be professional. (Especially when Sir Uther was around...)
He always wanted to try to be friends with MK, but Nonsurat did not allow it due to Meta Knight's status as "the cursed star" and the fact that Arthur was his mentor. Nonsurat still held a bit of Arthur due to the past...
Meta Knight didn't want Falspar to get in trouble, so he avoided him... but never forgot his kindness. Years later, he's assigned an official position.... to guard and protect the planet of the Fisher King...
Who at the time had control of more than half of the trade routes in the galaxy. And a seat in the galactic council (head of treasury)... one of Sir Uther's backers at the time... He shared the same ideals as Sir Uther... he too, was an elitist scumbag.
The Fisher King presented himself as this kind ruler but, in reality, was two-faced... he'd smuggle and hoard goods for himself while other lesser planets would be on the brink of starvation. (He got away with it as long as he'd continued his support for the GSA.)
When Falspar witnessed all this... he didn't know what to think. "Were noble knights... aren't we supposed to serve the public?" Sir Nonsurat would remind him ", Don't question it... keep your head low, and you'll do fine,"...
Sir Nonsurat, even though a bit distant at times, truly cared for his student and wanted him to succeed. Not only that but since Falspar was knighted he was no longer under his care anymore...
Which meant if he slipped up... he'd be at Uther's mercy... and this man had none.
One day, Nightmare's demon came to attack the planet, and Falspar had to evacuate the whole planet. So... basically; what happened was that scene from "Attack on Titian," in The Battle of Trost.
youtube
Falspar chooses to protect his soldiers and the people first... but the Fisher King runs back for all his ill-gotten loot. He makes a dive back for his stuff but Nightmare's monsters decide to snatch it for themselves... the greedy king foolishly tries to protect it for himself and gets caught in the cross-fire.
While Falspar was able to save the Fisher King, he received a wound that left him impotent. (Reference to the Arthurian Legend)
After this, the Fisher King drops all his support for the GSA and is no longer backing Uther's endeavors... and made sure to blame Falspar. Needless to say, Sir Uther was livid when this happened... this man was out for blood!
After losing his strongest supporter, he publicly stripped him of his title as general, his unit, and branded him "The Fool." "THIS IS WHAT YOUR SOFT HEART GETS YOU!" then proceeds to burn his arm. Falspar looks to his mentor for help but does not step in to save him.
Sir Nonsurat could only look away in shame... and this hurt Falspar even more than his burning arm.
But someone does step in to aid him... It's none other than Meta Knight & Jecra. Basically, the boys hacked the place and caused a power outage... which caused Sir Uther to stop the burning.
He's distracted long enough for Sir Arthur to pull him off on Falaspar... Uther was about to reprimand Arthur for this, but the power outage was far more concerning that he had to leave it at that and storm out of there... in frustration.
Sir Arthur proceeds to heal and make sure Falspar is okay before following after Uther.
He knew that it was Meta Knight's doing (he'd done something like this before)... he had to make sure it couldn't be traced back to Team Halbred (MK's crew).
At this point, Sir Arthur & MK are still a little shaken up after the incident, but still have a deep care & bond. They were just a little awkward; they both never had an argument like that... which meant they never knew how to apologize to each other.
Arthur has been secretly looking after MK and his crew (covering up their tracks and aiding them when he could). And every time Meta Knight succeeded in a mission he made sure everyone knew he was Sir Arthur's pupil. (they still love each other very much)
Meta Knight & Jecra rushed over to make sure that Falspar was okay, and at that moment Falspar was able to put two and two together: they caused the power outage!
He has been grateful to MK & Jecra ever since.
Nonsurat tried to go over to Falspar as well but was turned away; Falspar had always tried so hard to receive love & praise from his mentor all this time but no longer wanted it.
In truth, Sir Nonsurat had the most sensitive heart out of all of them but was forced to lock away due to Uther's influence. Which is why he could never give Falspar the affection he always craved.
Ever since the Fisher King incident...their relationship has been rocky ever since.
I'm done planning out Falspar's part in the story... but Dragato's not just yet. Dame Morgan is Sir Dragato's mentor... I originally wanted to do Sir Dragato being under Sir Nonsurat but Dragato's perfectionism just jived so well with Morgan's character.
Morgan's relationship with Dragato is my favorite plot line in the story... can't wait to explore it! :3

Déjà vu all over again: American Innovation Dollar Coin Program
By Louis Golino
On July 10, legislation calling for the issuance of a new series of $1 coins that will honor American innovations and innovators was sent to President Trump to be signed into law — which he did Friday.
The bill, H.R. 770 — the American Innovation $1 Coin Act — authorizes the issuance of four coins per year starting no sooner than January 1, 2019, with a different coin for every state, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territory over a 14-year period for a total of 56 coins.
The bill specifies that the obverse of each coin feature a large, dramatic likeness of Liberty with the design extending to the rim, while the reverses will have designs emblematic of a specific innovation, innovator, or group of innovators.
In addition, like the Presidential $1-coin series that was issued from 2007 to 2016, the new coins will have edge-incused inscriptions for the year of issuance, mint mark, and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
The coins are to be issued in the order in which the state or territory ratified the Constitution or were admitted to the Union.
But unlike the previous dollar coin series, which until the end of 2011 was issued for circulation and for collector products, the new coins will only be struck for collectors in quantities that will be determined by the Secretary of the Treasury. They will presumably be sold in rolls and bags and in Mint and Proof sets.
Chester Arthur 2012 Presidential Dollar Coin Uncirculated obverse. Hover to zoom.
Mint officials will base production levels for the first coin for Delaware on the number of 2012 Chester A. Arthur dollars (four million), the first coins issued after President Obama directed the Treasury to cease producing the Presidential coins for circulation, according to Patrick Malone, press secretary for Rep. Himes, who was quoted in a June 28 Coin World story. Subsequent issues will be produced according to the demand for previous issues in the series.
The innovation dollar program is the brainchild of two Connecticut legislators: Rep. Jim Himes (D) and Senator Chris Murphy (D). On June 27, when the bill passed the house, Himes said: “This bill will support jobs and the industry around collectible coins, including here in Connecticut, all without costing taxpayers at all.” Murphy added:
Our country was built on innovation and entrepreneurship, and what better way to celebrate it than through a program that creates jobs and reduces the national debt. This bill supports local jobs at MBI Inc. in Norwalk, one of the top commemorative coin companies in the should country.
Troubled Outlook
Since the legislation was first introduced in a slightly different form in January 2017, reactions from collectors have not been very positive, which seems to have eluded the bill’s congressional sponsors.
The most fundamental problem is that for a dollar coin program to be successful and generate widespread interest it needs to be issued for circulation. Yet we know from past experience that as long as paper dollars are issued, Americans will not use dollar coins and are likely to hoard them or ignore them.
As Scott Barman, a collector who writes the Coin Collector’s Blog noted:
In many cases, the Innovation $1 Coin will be a repeat of history. Its potential popularity will fail as Congress hopes to socially engineer excitement in the way they tried to do for the Presidential dollar coins.
However, Scott does see some potential for the new series as an educational tool and a way to promote the hobby, but only if done the right way. In particular, it should foster discussion on how each state will decide what innovation they should be represented with, especially when there are many to choose from.
The bill calls for designs to be selected by the Treasury Secretary in consultation with the governor or executive of the state of territory, the Commission on Fine Arts, and the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC).
The 2018 Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore America the Beautiful quarter.
The second major problem is that collectors are exhausted with long-running coin programs, and 14 years would be even longer than the current and previous quarter dollar programs that each lasted 11 years (America the Beautiful and State quarters).
Prior to 1999, circulating coin designs had remained static for decades, so there was pent-up interest in new designs, but since then we have had so many new programs that most collectors either want a break or would like to see something entirely different and of much shorter duration. Mike Olson, a collector who served on the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee from 2009 to 2014 and who was instrumental in the passage of the 2019 Apollo 11 50th anniversary coin program, said of the new series:
As it relates to the new dollar series, my sense is that collectors are fatigued with programs that continue for years and have lost interest. In addition, coins that are not produced for and used in circulation are not as relevant to the general public and may largely go unnoticed. I’d like to see the ATB [America the Beautiful] series end in 2021 and revert to the Washington design prescribed by legislation.
I think that it would be very difficult if not impossible to remove any president from our existing coinage, so I would be in favor a short circulating Liberty series similar to what was proposed by the CCAC a few years back. One design on one denomination per year, minted alongside and put into circulation with the existing issue. While we’re at it, how about minting a few of these circulating coins in San Francisco-just enough to get people looking at their change again for ‘special’ coins?
The new dollar coin program is in many ways a case study in what is currently wrong with the process by which new U.S. coins are conceived in Congress and produced by the Mint — a process that continues to repeat the mistakes of the past, fails to learn from those mistakes, and which does not take account of what modern coin collectors really want.
A 1979 Susan B. Anthony dollar.
Collectors may have a diverse range of opinions on many issues, but they are largely united, if not unanimous, in their lack of interest in the new series. For example, in a July 23 Coin World letter to the editor, one collector said:
Congress is again telling us what we want, a new series of dollar coins. I assume this was done without asking the numismatic community for an opinion. I will not be purchasing any. I do not personally associate the words “success’ or “desirability” with Eisenhower, Anthony, Sacagawea, Native American, or Presidential when coupled with the words ‘dollar coin.’
This view may strike some collectors as a bit harsh since the Eisenhower and Sacagawea/Native American dollars (the latter will continue to be issued along with the new coins) are both popular with many collectors. Moreover, high-grade examples of both dollar coins fetch large sums for certain issues.
Nonetheless, a sampling of letters and posts on coin forums and blogs shows a very strong lack of interest in the new innovation dollar coins, which does not bode well for its success, though it might result in some very low mintage pieces.
In recent years, collectors have lost interest not only in changing-design coin programs that run for a long period but also in many recent commemorative coin programs that too often fail to resonate with them.
But there is also good news on the horizon. In addition to next year’s Apollo 11 coins that are sure to spark great interest within and outside the hobby, there is also a recent legislative proposal for silver and gold commemorative coins to mark the 150th anniversary of the Carson City Mint in Nevada in 2020 that might be popular.
The reverse of an 1877 Carson City Seated Liberty quarter.
The bill (H.R. 6221) says the designs of the coins should be emblematic of the Carson City Mint building, which is reminiscent of the 2006 San Francisco Mint coins. Hopefully, the reverse of these pieces will feature a reproduction of a coin struck at the Carson City Mint such as a Seated Liberty coin or one of the hugely-popular Morgan dollars produced there. These coins would use modern technology to re-create a classic coin design the way the Liberty subset of First Spouse $10 gold coins did.
Mike Olson also likes the Carson City idea and said:
In regard to the proposed Carson City commemorative coin program, I think that it is very appropriate and will be well received by collectors if the designs and marketing are great. For example, this would be an opportunity to pay homage to the GSA Morgan dollar hoard by perhaps using a CC reverse dollar design on the silver dollar and packaging it in GSA fashion. The San Francisco Mint 2006 commemoratives provide a precedent for use of the Morgan dollar reverse.
Ultimately, what we need to avoid coin series like the forthcoming innovation program, issue coins collectors want and give a much-needed jolt of excitement to the hobby is better communication between Congress, the Mint, and the coin collecting community.

I guess one advantage of going back to school for a Master's degree is that I have access to the college social scene again. That's the one thing I miss about being in college. Maybe the local GSA's welcome visitors, but I'd feel like a creep hanging out there if I wasn't a student. Of course, going back to school means annihilating my mental health again. Though a lot would be different than my time in undergrad, just looking at the course schedule makes me anxious. Just that feeling in your chest when you remember how much pain something put you through. It would be bad enough if my parents weren't pressuring me to drop software engineering and get an MBA. Like, no??? First of all, I'd have to do extra schooling because I have 0 experience in business administration. Second of all, I know that business careers have the potential to make extreme amounts of money, but not everyone dreams of hoarding money like a dragon. That's an idea that people seem to have trouble wrapping their heads around. I like what I do and I'm well off enough doing it so let me live my life as a humble programmer in peace.
