GPF Torino 22 - Shoma Uno - FS
Elements:
4Lo (maybe the best he’s ever done wow) | 4S (!!) | 4F (!!) | 3A(missing eu3F, never put back in) | ChSq | FCS4 | 4T2T | 4T (toe down, hangs on) | 3A2A | StSQ4 | ChCoS4 | ChSS4
Program: Air on the G String
I don’t think there is a better exemplification of Shoma’s skating than this program. Each jump until the last 4T was so light and airy, so quick in the rotation and unquestioned in the landing… Shoma’s musicality speaks volumes through each push of his blades, each look and each moment he makes with the choreography. Truly world class, and more than deserving of this HUGE score — even with a bobble and missing an entire combination.
Also, Shoma’s wobble-sit on the ice and him talking about Stephane’s success in Torino made me soooo soft 🥺
Score: 204.47 for a total of 304.46 into 1st and his first Grand Prix Final 🥇!!!!!!

All this wondering if Shoma is going to retire now makes me think of how Yuzu announced his retirement the day of, so I'm wondering: do you wish Yuzu had announced the beginning of the 21-22 season it was his last so you and everyone else would go in knowing? And is that what you would want of Shoma, to let us know that next season (or season after) will be his last?
(And now I got to thinking of the canceled GPF 2021... man, that would have been a comp to watch)
I am not sure if it's really better with a final annoucement or not actually 😅 I would be sad about the end anyway. I just feel like for Shoma atm I'd like to know if I have to make peace with this as his last skate or if I can hope for another ending. I don't like being hung up in the air but as Shoma himself doesn't really know it, it makes it that much harder to predict.
I think for Yuzu it was a bit different. Yuzu never really hinted that he would keep competing after the Olympics. Everyone knew the Olympic season is most definetly the final one. Yuzu did not say it and after the skates he had at the Olympics I thought there was a tiny possibilty he could keep going but I don't think his retirement came to anyone's surprise, (neither would Shoma's retirement come to anyone's surprise tbh.) If all I was surprised Yuzu waited this long to annouce it. I don't know if it would have been easier to process or not. I didn't feel the same kind of hung in the air as for Shoma atm. I don't know maybe bc I never thought of Yuzu to really keep going after the Olympics or bc there was no title left for him to win anyway...I dunno...I think the way Yuzu handled it was perfectly fine though.
And I also think Shoma handles it just with all honesty. He doesn't make promises he could break. It's also really hard to make a final decision when you just had this kind of high emotional stress. I think even if Shoma decides to continue (pls Shoma🙏) he would not say that it's his final season. He will decide season after season. It's not Shoma's fault my brain can't stop thinking about it 😅

Allow me to geek out on some maths for a moment..
Ages of the winners of the Olympics Ice Dance event from the past 2 decades:
2002: Anissina/Peizerat (FRA) 27/30
2006: Navka/Kostomarov (RUS) 31/29
2010: Virtue/Moir (CAN) 20/22
2014: Davis/White (USA) 27/26
2018: Virtue/Moir (CAN) 28/30
2022: Papadakis/Cizeron (FRA) 26/27
The ages of the top 6 (as of GPF 2023) + P/C as of Milano/Cortina 2026:
Papadakis/Cizeron (FRA): 30/31 (3rd olys)
Chock/Bates (USA): 33/37 (5th olys *E)
Guignard/Fabbri (ITA): 37/39 (4th olys)
Gilles/Poirier (CAN): 34/34 (4th olys *Paul)
Fear/Gibson (GBR): 27/32 (2nd olys)
Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen (CAN): 33/37 (2nd olys)
Lajoie/Lagha (CAN): 26/27 (2nd olys)
Of the above 7 teams, only one will be younger than VM were in 2018.
AND PEOPLE THOUGHT VM WERE “ANCIENT” when they won in 2018…
In a world where VM return for the 2026 Olympics.. they would not be the oldest team competing..
Pre-VM, Ice Dance was an ‘older skaters’ sport.
VM made ice dance a ‘young sport’- they pushed the athleticism, skating skill, difficulty, artistry, versatility. Everyone was forced to skate to their standard. They retired at, what is now proven to be, a relatively young age. The ages of the *top* teams looking to the 2026 Olympics, the above teams are made up of holdovers from the VM era, and teams that have not and will never have the opportunity to achieve what VM did at- clearly now an anomaly of a young age, because of the holdover teams- If they do, it will be at the rate of the age cycle that has reappeared starting precisely at the retirement of Virtue/Moir.
VM was the outlier.

How does a Figure Skating (Senior) Season look like? - A guide for YoI fanfic writers
Tumblr media
Since Yuri on Ice mainly deals with the Grand Prix Series and other competitions are only mentioned as a side note, I've noticed that many writers seem to struggle with how a season in figure skating looks like. So here is what I've gathered from my years of watching and research!
Disclaimer: I am only human and I make mistakes. I am by no means saying that this is to be accepted as truth without question. If there are any errors, please tell me and I'll fix them!
The new season starts on July 1st. Hence the July 1st cut off. That means that anyone who hasn't turned 15 by June 30th isn't elligable for Senior competition that season (Which means that even though Yuri Plisetsky was 15 for the World Championship we see in Episode 1, he wasn't allowed to compete there).
On July 1st or the end of June is also when we usually get the Grand Prix Assignments. There are 6 qualifying competitions + the Grand Prix Final.
The 6 qualifying competitions usually are:
Skate Amerika (USA)
Skate Canada International (CAN)
Internationaux de France (FRA) (This season called Grand Prix de France...no one knows why...)
Cup of China (CHN)
NHK Trophy (JPN)
Cup of Russia/Rostelecom Cup (RUS)
This season (22/23) the Cup of China and Russia are replaced (for obvious reasons) by the MK John Wilson Trophy (GBR) and the Grand Prix Espoo (FIN)
The location of the Final changes every season. This season it's in Torino in Italy.
So in July we get the Assignments. Funniest thing about that and something I think is worth including in stories is: The skaters find out the same way we do. By either camping on twitter and waiting for the ISU to tweet that they uploaded them, or by refreshing the website every 5 minutes around the time they or some other source said they'd drop them. This season the assignments dropped on July 22nd...it was nerve wrecking...poor skaters...
The ISU is also located in Switzerland. Assignments drop between 3 and 5 pm. So worst case, Yuuri and Viktor will stare at twitter at 1am in Japan waiting for the ISU to ge their shit sorted out. That's what the triplets where shown doing in the anime xD
But the Grand Prix Series isn't the first thing that happens. For starters, let's look at national competitions...
As for Japan...
First of all, if your skater isn't already qualified for nationals by placing well enough at them the year before (the medalists get "seeded" by the JSF), they need to go to Regionals first (Like Yuuri when he finished 11th at Nationals after the GPF). That's late September, early Oktober depending on the region.
Now, Yuuri technically would have needed to also go to Sectionals after that! Which isn't shown in the anime! That's in late Oktober. Unless Yuuri does finishes on top at sectionals, he's not going to Nationals...
But that wasn't shown in the Anime because it would have been repetitive and Sectionals also overlap with the first two GP events a lot.
As for Russia...
I honestly never cared enough. The men weren't interesting enough imo and Russia is the reason women's singles stresses me tf out and I barely watch it...
But as far as I know, to qualify for Nationals they need to compete in 2 out of 5 stages of the Russian Cup Series. It functions similarly to the ISU Grand Prix. Skaters are seeded immediatly if they are assigned to the ISU Grand Prix or qualify for the Junior GP Final. So neither Viktor, nor Yuri needed to bother with that.
Beforehand however, there are the test skates. They are in early September and that's not a competition. It's literally just a televised program announcement and they get fedback. No points, no medals.
August - December:
Another type of International competition is the Challenger Series. Skaters who are not assigned a GP Event may go there instead. They are ranked below the GP Series and there isn't a final. But the ISU recognizes Personal and Seasons Bests there aswell as World records. Nebelhorn is also used as the final qualifying competition for the last remaining olympic spots.
Most well known are:
US International Skating Classic (USA)
Lombardia Trophy (Italy)
Autumn Classic International (Canada)
Nebelhorn Trophy (Germany)
Ondrej Nepela Trophy/Memorial (Slovakia)
Finlandia Trophy (Finland)
Golden Spin of Zagreb (Croatia)
Oktober - December
What you've all been waiting for: The Grand Prix Series
As mentioned before, 6 qualifying competitions: Skate America, Skate Canada Int., Internationaux de France, Cup of China, NHK Trophy, Cup of Russia/Rostelecom Cup. Not always in that order.
They get assigned spots based on their placing in worlds or their ranking in ISU standings. So, unlike I first thought when I watched the Anime (I did not know about the GP Series before), regionals did not matter for Yuuri's Grand Prix spots.
If it had been a minimum score issue, Yuuri would have needed to go to a challenger, like Nebelhorn for example.
If I'm totally honest...I don't know exactly how Yuuri got two spots at all? I just accept GP assignments as they come because I don't really understand how they work... It was either the come back rule, or Yuuri got invited by either China or Russia in addition to his guaranteed spot? I have no clue...he got two, I'm not questioning that further because I legit don't understand. Feel free to enlighten me ^^'
Anyway...skaters can compete in max. 2 competitions. Unlike suggested in YoI, there are actually 12 skaters at each event (8 for pairs).
In the end 6 qualify for the final. There is a point system in Place:
At each event, skaters get awarded points for their placement.
place: 15 points
place: 13
place: 11
place: 9
place: 7
place: 5
place: 4
place: 3
The skaters with the highest amount of points advance to the final. If there is a tie, there are several rules to break the tie. For example: Mickey placed 3rd in both of his events and therefor got 22 points. Yuuri got 2nd and 4th and therefor also had 22 points. But since Yuuri placed higher than Mickey in one of his events, Yuuri advanced to the final.
Then the final takes place in early to mid December.
December:
Important for YoI are Japanese and Russian Nationals, which usually fall around Christmas each year. That's where it is determined who is send to the Four Continents or European Championships, aswell as the World Championships.
January/Feburary:
That's when 4CC/Euros usually take place. I suggest looking up dates for the year you are setting your story in or just decide yourself if you want. It's fanfiction after all :D
Also usually in Feburary if relevant: The Olympics.
March:
Late March are the World Championships. And with that the competitive season ends. Unless you want to include the Team Trophy...but I don't really bother with that.
April-July:
ICE SHOWS!!!! :D Or: how competitive figure skaters actually earn money
Resources for further research:
Wikipedia is your friend :D
Also if you want to use an IRL competition as a guide for scoring, program layouts etc... just google "ISU results (insert competition you want to use)". A page should come up that has detailed results with scoring sheets. E.g. Worlds 22
Another Note:
For ISU events the starting order for the short is as far as I understand usually determined by draw. The groups are seperated by ISU rankings. So the first 6 in the standings will be skating in the last group, and draw from the last 6 starting numbers.
For the free there usually is reversed starting order (like in YoI, the person who placed first in the short skates last), though I have also heard that sometimes they draw again based on those standings that time.
Also, there is an exhibition gala and a banquet after almost each of these competitions ;)
I hope that this was a little helpful :D Happy watching and happy writing <3

Men's Short Program - Grand Prix Final | Torino 2022
Gosh this is such a tight competition for all six men, with 4 of them coming from Japan. A little bummed that Jun and Kazuki couldn't make it to the top 6, but it's not like these 6 men aren't capable of showing great performances. So we're still SO in for a treat tonight.
Tumblr media
So let's starts with...
Shun Sato (18 - JPN) Starting the competition with a Christmas vibe. But sadly, the vibe isn't vibing as he fell on 4Lz. A jump that I thought to be the most reliable on his repertoire. However, he managed to pull himself up and land the combo, 4T2T -with a little skid on the 4T, hence only a 2T instead of intended 3T. The last jump, 3A, was the only redeeming feature as it's done nicely with a good running edge on landing.
Tumblr media
Personally, I feel Shun has progressed nicely in the artistic area than last season. Though, I think the choreography in the step sequence felt a bit flat, and his posture still looks a bit rigid. Also, he's not the best spinner among the 6 as well. So I guess his score, 76.62, is a little justified -emphasis on the little. Most of the judges seem to score him in the low 7 to 6 on PCS. Which, I think, a bit too low considering that he does have a decent skating skill, pretty nice speed overall, and a good edge control. So I can't help but squinting my eyes to the judges on that scoring. Well, I do hope he could land the 4Lz tomorrow and get the score he does deserve. On a side note, I just realized that Mura Takahito has become his coach! Would love to see him accompanying the skaters some day soon.
Daniel Grassl (20 - ITA) Sadly, another fall on the 4Lz -it seems to be the cursed jump tonight, eh. Also, I noticed that the take-off was on the flat edge, and it seems to be called out by the technical panelist. But he pulled it together afterwards to get the 3A landed quick and nicely. His combo jump, the 3Lz3T was also good enough. Truthfully, I always felt that his jumps look weird. But tonight -thanks to the haircut I think- it doesn't look like he's falling apart in the air anymore. Though, his feature quality is still his flexibility on the spins -how does it feel to be able to bend your knees and thigh like that, Dan? It's really mesmerizing!
Tumblr media
As underrated as he is, he does gradually become better in artistic interpretation. Kudos to Jason Brown with his choreography skill for bringing out the sensitivity within the music to Daniel's skating. I feel 39.25 in PCS is pretty justified, and therefore, 80.40 on SP seems to be fair enough. Which really makes it feel that Shun was scored way too low. And also I think Daniel is a little slower on the speed compared to the other 6 men, so it could have gotten his PCS a bit lower on skating skill component. Plus he's the only one still using a triple-triple combo, so I do think Shun's score should've been around 78-80s. But then again, this GPF is held in Italy, and the cheering from his supporters are so loud and lovely during his performance. I guess it gives judges more confident to give him extra points. Anyway, I'll be looking forward to see if he could put up a better fight in the FS and make the final placement even more interesting. BTW, is it just me or his pants is a little bit disturbing? Is it the extra tightness? Is it the untight fly? Is it the gray color? idk.
Sota Yamamoto (22 - JPN) 4T3T done strong and nicely, and it's the best combo jump of the night. He then managed to land the 4S safely too, though it doesn't have a long running edge. The 3A is also done with no worries tonight. Though, I noticed, the body position on his 3A is not really as tight as his quad jumps. It really could become worrisome, as he fell on 3A in NHK Trophy's FS. Anyway, tonight is another wonderfully clean SP for Sota. He's on the streak! Hopefully he could keep this consistency to his FS as well.
Tumblr media
I can't help but keep falling in love with Mihoko Higuchi's amazing talent in choreography. She really knows how to bring the best line and use of music to be skated by each athlete. And she doesn't impose her trademark on the choreography, unlike some other choreographers. She just let each athlete have their own moment and give them room to be themselves. And I do feel that Sota really has found his way on how to carry himself during the step sequence and other transitional lines. His skating is even more gorgeous now. However, I'm a bit bummed out that he hasn't been able to break the 100 barrier yet with scoring 94.86. But I guess it's a bit understandable seeing the 4S was not as good as in his 2 previous GP series. And so let us see where will he place in the FS. Can he stand on the podium? This will be very interesting.
Kao Miura (17 - JPN) Strong and confident start, but unfortunately had to go down on the combo jump. The 4S was done smoothly with a nice ice coverage and speed, but it was the 3T after that caused him a trouble. Though, I had to commend him for fighting so hard to save himself. So his 4S3T still become my highlight of his performance. He got back on track though, with 3A done quick and smooth. He also managed to land the 4T despite got slightly off axis in the air. Kao is so on fire tonight. The speed and attack in his skating is so crazy to look at.
Tumblr media
Sadly his SP's 1st place streak had to end as he only got 87.07 tonight, putting him in 3rd. Though he -quite literally- didn't go down without a fight. I have so much to like about his SP program. The choreo, the speed, the step sequence, the spin, and the costume, they're aggressive and offensive. You shouldn't take your eyes away from him even for a milisecond. Truly a power to be reckoned with. Yet, I'm quite certain that he can still improve on the spins by adding some unique positions. Though maybe it's not really necessary since he already got all the spins on level 4 tonight. But since he said he looks up to Stephane, I do wish that he would put more effort in making unique spin positions like Steph did. Anyway, can't wait to see his Beauty and The Beast FS. Let's see if he'll be more of the beauty or more of the beast.
Shoma Uno (24- JPN) Finally, we get to the reigning world champion. And I'd say, even though it's still not his cleanest SP yet, it really grows on me. First of all, the 4F. Solid, no hesitation, incredible rotation speed, nice body position, and clean landing. IMO it is deserving the highest GOE of any solo jump tonight. Still, I think it would've been even better had he kept the landing position a little bit longer. And if maybe he can really do a toepick take-off, not the full blade assist? then I'm sure he can finally get bigger GOE. It's still visibly a 4F though. Next, the combo jump. Had to do 4T2T only, because the 4T landed a bit tight. Still, I think it's a better attempt than in his 2 previous GP series. And the last jumping pass, the 3A, smooth as a butter. Again, deserving the highest GOE for any Axel jumps tonight as well.
Tumblr media
My next highlight of his performance tonight would be the twizzle. It's a chef kiss twizzle. Right on the music at that.
Tumblr media
Though, I found it really weird that even with this display of twizzle, the body movement, and the speed control throughout the stsq, he only managed to get step sequence level 3, when I thought the StSq tonight was even better than the 2 previous GP series. It really is a wonder of why so many step sequence are not getting the level 4 tonight. Though, Shoma does get the highest GOE for the StSq with 1.37 points. Anyway, Shoma managed to secure the 1st place in SP with 99.99 points. Juuuust 0.01 point off from reaching 100. Is it underscored, or is it fair, I'm still uncertain. As I do see that some judges are quite generous in the PCS. Like J9 from UK who gave him a 10.00 in presentation. Seeing the margin from SkatingScores' judges tally spreads, Shoma got a pretty tall bar ranging from 95.61 points, given by the US judge, to 106.98, given by the UK judge, with the Japanese judge only gave him 96.21 points, second to lowest. So yes, I think it is debatable if the performance Shoma put out tonight is being scored fairly, or not. We'll see in the FS if Shoma can keep this placement and finally claim the GPF title in his 5th participation. That would be incredibly joyous if he could, as this is the same place Stephane got his second GPF title AND Olympic medal.
And last, but not least...
Ilia Malinin (18 - USA) Another SP fail for Ilia as all of his jumps didn't work out as well as he planned tonight. Stepped out on 4T3T. The 4S landed with a pretty good running edge, but was called out as q. And understandably so, seeing the wobble on the landing foot. And then another mistake on the 3A. Thus pushing judges to give plenty negative GOEs here and there.
Tumblr media
Not sure if the pressure got to him or if he's really couldn't skate well due to an injury. But tonight he ended up with 80.10 points, putting him in 5th. I would say, it's an understandable but at the same time questionable score for this performance. Cause, well... he didn't fall. So, to have him ahead of Shun is a little understandable. However, the PCS is pretty questionable. Since I don't think Ilia has a better skating skill than Shun, but somehow they gave him the same score on that component, and even higher in composition. So yeah I'm a bit squinting my eyes on that part. Also, to have his StSq on level 4 while Shoma, Kao, and Sota were in level 3 is also questionable. Cause I don't think he has the same good controlled speed as Kao and Shoma, nor beautiful lines and quality edge control as Shoma and Sota. And although he had many elements like knee slide, kicks and fun jumps, those are not really a required elements for StSq that should grant him a level 4. So yeah, I can't help but feel that there's a bit of a scheme at play there. But anyway, pretty sure Ilia will do a lot of catching up in the FS with the 4A and 5 quads layout. Not sure if it would be good for him to push for that layout, if he really is injured. I mean, he's still so young. There would be more opportunities, as I hope this would not be his first and last GP Final attendance. So I do hope he'd think it through, and aim for longetivity, rather than burning himself out too quickly in his first GP.
In conclusion, the Free Skate will still going to be really tight because nobody broke 100 points barrier tonight. Will Shoma be able to skate clean and keep his placement to stand on top of the podium? Will Ilia be able to land 4A and catch up a lot of points and overtake Shoma? Who will stay on the podium between Sota and Kao? Can Shun deliver a redemption FS? And can Daniel give his best ever performance in front of home crowd? Well, let's look forward to the FS and hope for the best for all the skaters, shall we?

Grand Prix Final Math
So, out of boredom and love for math, I decided to calculate how several skaters could make the Grand Prix Final. If I made a mistake, please comment under the post. Also, for convenience sake, I’m only considering those with 22 points and those who placed 4th or higher and are going to Espoo (except for Pairs).
Men
Currently in:
Shoma Uno (30 points: 15 + 15)
Kao Miura (26 points: 13 + 13)
Sota Yamamoto (26 points: 13 + 13)
Daniel Grassl (24 points: 9 + 15)
On the cusp:
Adam Siao Him Fa (22 points: 15 + 7)
Cha Jun-hwan (22 points: 11 + 11)
Heading to Espoo:
Ilia Malinin (15 points)
Shun Sato (11 points)
Keegan Messing (9 points)
Path to the GPF:
Keegan: Gets in if he wins (24 points: 9 + 15)
Shun: Gets in if he’s 2nd place or higher (24 or 26 points: 9 + 13 or 9 + 15), unless Keegan wins (24 points but higher placement) and Ilia gets 3rd or 4th place (26 points or 24 points but higher placement)
Ilia: Gets in if he’s in 4th or higher (24-30 points: 15 + (9 to 15)), and a good chance of getting in at 5th place (22 points, but more likely to have a higher total score than Adam), unless Keegan wins and Shun get 2nd place (both 24 points) and he’s 5th place or lower (< or = 22 points)
Adam: Shun gets 3rd place (22 points, but Adam has the higher placement) or lower (< 22 points), or Ilia gets 6th place or lower (< or = 20 points) or he places 5th and Adam beats his combined scores (probable but unlikely), and Keegan gets 2nd place (22 points, but Adam has the higher placement) or lower (<22 points)
Jun-hwan: Two of the above happen to Ilia, Shun, and/or Keegan
Women
Currently in:
Kaori Sakamoto (28 points: 15 + 13)
Kim Ye-lim (28 points: 13 + 15)
Isabeau Levito (26 points: 13 + 13)
On the cusp:
Rinka Watanabe (22 points: 15 + 7)
Rion Sumiyoshi (22 points: 11 + 11)
Heading to Espoo:
Mai Mahara (15 points)
Loena Hendrickx (15 points)
Anastasiia Gubanova (11 points)
Path to the GPF:
Anastasiia: Gets in if she’s 2nd or higher (24 or 26 points: 11 + 13 or 11 + 15)
Loena: Gets in if she’s 4th or higher (24-30 points: 15 + (9 to 15)), and a good chance of getting in at 5th place (22 points, but a higher placement than Rion and a more than likely higher combined score than Rinka)
Mai:  Gets in if she’s 4th or higher (24-30 points: 15 + (9 to 15)), and a good chance of getting in at 5th place (22 points, but a higher placement than Rion and a more than likely higher combined score than Rinka)
Rinka: Gets in if either Loena or Mai get 6th place or lower (< or = 20 points) or place fifth and have a smaller combined score than Rinka (unlikely for both) or Anastasiia gets 3rd place (22 points, but Rinka has the higher placement) or lower (< or = 20 points)
Rion: Two of the above happen to Anastasiia, Loena, or Mai
Ice Dance
Currently in:
Charlene Guignard/ Marco Fabbri (30 points: 15 + 15)
Laurence Fournier-Beaudry/ Nikolaj Sorensen (28 points: 13 + 15)

Piper Gilles/ Paul Poirier (15 points)
Kaitlin Hawayak/ Jean-Luc Baker (13 points)
Christina Carreira/ Anthony Ponomarenko (9 points)
Path to GPF:
C/P: Get in if they win (24 points: 9 + 15) and H/B are not 2nd place (26 points) or G/P are 5th or lower (< or = 22 points) or in 4th place and C/P beat their combined score (unlikely)
H/B: Get in if they are 2nd or higher (26 or 28 points: 13 + 13 or 13 + 15) or 3rd place if C/P doesn’t win (24 points, but C/P would have the higher place), or 4th place if G/P get lower than 5th place (< or = 20 points) and C/P are 2nd, and H/B beat their combined total score (likely), or lower (< 22 points)
G/P: Get in if they are 4th place or higher (24 to 30 points: 15 + (9 to 15)) or 5th place if C/P don’t win or H/B place 4th (22 points, but G/P would have the higher placement) or lower (< or = 20 points)
La/La: Get in if G/P are 6th or lower (15 points total) or H/B are 5th or lower (13 or 20 points total, or both if C/P win (24 points) or gets 2nd (22 points, but C/P would have the higher placement)

V/P: Get in if they win (22 points)
D/T: Get in if they win (20 points) unless G/A or M/P place second (22 points)

In :
Kaori Sakamoto (28 pts)
Yelim Kim (28 pts)
Isabeau Levito (26 pts)
On the cusp : Rinka Watanabe and Rion Sumiyoshi have both 22 pts but Rinka has a gold and wins the tiebreaker.

On the cusp : Adam and Jun with 22 pts. Adam win the tiebreaker with his gold at IdF.
Ilia is a safe bet he has to finish at least 4th.

GPF Torino 22 - Shoma Uno
Elements:
4F | 4T2T | FCS4 | 3A | StSq3 (????????) | ChCoS4 (?) | ChSS4
Program: Gravity
Wow wow wow WOW! Shoma just has such an unparalleled musicality, presence and quality to his skating. That Step Sequence is truly something special, and it’s truly a testament to the Shoma x Stephanè collab… so good (even resetting and popping the 2T to get his combo o it after the VERY deep edge landing on his 4T) and I’m so PROUD 😭😭😭
Score: 99.99 into 1st (GIVE HIM THE 100 YOU COWARDS)

Japanese Nationals, Women’s event, groups 3&4, so many emotions!
This field! This field is so deep, there’s so much going on!
GROUP 3
Yuhana Yokoi (22)
Oh no Yuhana your jumps, where did they go? She seemed happy to be there and performed all through anyhow. Lovely spins for the most part, but the last one was rushed by jump issues.
Rika Kihara (20)
Glad she isn’t pushing the hard content too fast too soon in her injury recovery. Her skating is beautiful, but because of the pared down content, she can’t afford even small jumping errors that were present today. Still great to see her skate, and I hope that the progress she is making elsewhere this season will pay off. I will be interested to see more of what working with Orser does for her.
Yuna Aoki (20)
I love the 3Lz-3Lo combo, and just 3Lo on the end of combos in general, and hers was pretty. I loved her junior days, so it’s lovely to see her here and skating so well. She looked so happy with that, which makes me happy. Lovely program commitment and performance.
Ikura Kushida (15 - Juniors)
Excellent potential from the junior field. Good jumps and skills for where she is, but she’s still definitely working on that musical connection. Excited to see where she is in a few years.
Ami Nakai (14 - Juniors)
She was already one of my favorite juniors this year! What a program that was, everything was there. She had the big elements, but they weren’t just big elements strung together to rack up points. She performed and got all level 4s on her leveled elements. She’s going to be a force to be reckoned with, and she’s already on her way there! I love how interesting her programs are to watch.
Ayumi Shibayama (14 - Juniors)
Great work! She did her best and skated very clean. There’s been a lot of progress in her skating. This music seems like it’s a little too much for her performance ability right now. She did try really hard for it though.
GROUP 4
Mana Kawabe (18)
Beautiful skating, but some falls to throw her off. 3A is almost back for her, but not quite. I’m proud of her, but this wasn’t quite her day for the FS.
Saki Miyake (20)
I think this program can be very interesting with great program structure, but she was a little bit all over the place with its execution today. She seemed a little off from the start (looked like she might have been having a costume issue, and I could see that unnerving her). Lovely skater, not her day.
Mao Shimada (14 - Juniors)
Oh no starting with the falls on her big elements, but she pulled it together and skated the rest really clean. She’s got such a bright, charming energy, but she knows how to modulate it to fit the music and the moment in the program. Beautiful spiral in there! Good for her!
Mone Chiba (17 - Junior)
There were some issues, but what a lovely level of skating for a seventeen year old! Amazing layback spin at the end, great spins in general honestly. I appreciate how much she has to her skating beyond just jumps.
Mai Mihara (23)
Coming in off the GPF win and carrying that momentum! You can tell that she’s such an experienced skater because she was able to work around early program mistakes and make the program so strong and suitable by adding the missed combo back in. She performs and skates so beautifully, and you can really feel that skate and her emotions! That spiral is so so good! I’m so proud of her!
Kaori Sakamoto (22)
She’s caved and struggled under pressure and expectations a few times this season, but not today, not here! That was the performance of her season so far, and I hope that she can build on that energy into Worlds (and 4CC if she goes)! That’s Kaori the WC, that’s Kaori the Olympic medalist, that’s Kaori the reigning Japanese National Champion. The jumps, the spins, the steps, every element was there and beauitful! The passion and performance just locked it in so that the skills shone! Her loop! I’m so proud, not entirely coherent about it. Her reaction to her scores at the end was so good.
I’m very happy with how this went for Kaori and Mai, and happy enough for overall placements. There were some skates that didn’t go as well as hoped, but in the end, I think that this turned out pretty OK.

who is into the gpf?
I guess you mean who qualified already for the GPF? 🤔
For now officially qualified are those skaters who have taken part in two events and numerically have done enough that they are under the top 6 of the GP series and cannot get kicked by the remaining skaters.
For men:
Shoma Uno (30 points), Kao Miura (26 points), Sota Yamamoto (26 points) and Daniel Grassl (24 points)
Still on the "could qualify" list are Adam Siao Him Fa with 22 points and Ilia Malinin, Keegan Messing and Shun Sato who still have to skate at GP Espoo.
For women:
Kaori Sakamoto (28 points), Yelim Kim (28 points), Isabeau Levito (26 points)
On the could qualify list Rinka Watanabe (22 points), Mai Mihara, Loena Hendrickx and Anastasia Gubanova who still have to compete at GP Espoo
For ice dance:
Guignard/Fabbri (30 points), Chock/Bates (28 points), Fournier-Beaudry/Sorensen (28 points) Fear/Gibson (26 points)
Could still qualify Hawayek/Baker and Gilles/Poirier
I don't do Pairs bc tbh Pairs is just bad atm...😅
If you meant something else with your ask, feel free to ask again!

Interest rate on PF deposits may be near 8% for FY23
Tumblr media
New Delhi: The government may peg the interest rate on provident fund deposits at nearly 8% for 2022-23, almost at the same level as in the previous fiscal, people familiar with the matter told ET.They said the earnings of the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation were being worked out but 8% was doable considering higher returns on investments this year."Return on EPFO investments this year have been strong with reduced withdrawals on account of Covid-19 pandemic. Even investments in equity are expected to fetch better returns than last year, making a clear case of either retaining the interest rate at 8.1% or bringing it a tad lower to 8%," a senior government official said on the condition of anonymity. Another official said raising the interest rate beyond 8.1% will widen the difference between PF rates and rates on public provident fund (PPF) and general provident fund (GPF) which stands at 7.1%."The government will stick to around 8% to avoid any political backlash as it heads into key state assembly elections this year, followed by general elections next year," the second official added. The central board of trustees of EPFO is expected to meet later this month or in early March to decide on the interest rate that will be recommended by its Finance Investment and Audit committee based on the earnings for 2022-23. The retirement fund body had announced the interest rate of 8.1% for 2021-22, which was the lowest in four decades and was significantly lower than 8.5% credited in the preceding year. This was on an estimated income of ₹76,768 crore with ₹450 crore as surplus. Exchange Traded Fund The CBT is also expected to take a call on the threshold on redemption of exchange traded funds at its upcoming meeting. It had in its last meeting in October 2022, proposed fixing a threshold on ETF redemption to ensure minimum returns and better payout to its subscribers. EPFO started investing in equities in 2015-16, starting with 5% in the first year, 10% in the second year and 15% in the subsequent years. Big Sneaks
Four years ago I posted a photo of my notebook open to the Barcelona chapter from WitS while I watched the Olympics.
Now I'm writing the third and final part to that story.
All of the parts are in one Google doc, now almost 500 pages long. Send me a page or chapter number, and I'll post a pic of that page and the Olympics while I watch every night (one for every night of the Olympics, maybe more if there's a skating event on). Aim high if you want anything from anything from Across the Universe
Oh. And I won't blur anything out this time ;)

Written in the Stars
After Yakov decides to take a break from coaching skating to focus on his crumbling relationship with his wife and soulmate, Lilia, Victor is forced to move away from his beloved home rink to Detroit so he can begin training under Celestino Ciandini. With his young friend Yurio in tow, they befriend their new rink mates and are quickly folded into a new little family unlike any Victor has had before.

2014 musste die „often imitated, never duplicated” „Tanz im Quadrat”, später bloß „TiQ”, „that has set new standards for the Berlin electronic scene”, wegen „kiddie theater and milk coffee events for all the young Deutsch Mutties” weiterziehen.
„Well that's one for the books !”
Mein letztes Pre-Inflation-GPF-5-Nächte-Ticket kostete gerade einmal 40 Euro inklusive Versand per Einschreiben.
On 15.7.2022 we are happily back at Beate Uwe with another killer line up.”
PPPPS: „It was an amazing and unforgettable night […] Everything went great thanks to: […] Silvia/[…] for having helping us at the entrance making everyone feel welcomed.” - I beg to differ.
PPPPPS 17. Juli zum „TIQ special warm up Kalabalik På Tyrolen Festival” mit „Autumns”, Slaughterhouse it is. Hanzel soll übrigens gut aufgelegt haben Freitag Nacht, 15. Juli 2022.
PPPPPPS 25.
