Some folks would prefer that I keep politics OUT of my comic strip, but... uh... it's a comic about my life as a transgender woman, and it's KINDA hard to not be a smidge political when one party keeps pushing and passing laws that make it a crime for me to exist.  So, sorry if you feel this is unfair, but it feels pretty frickin' unfair to be labeled a literal criminal for existing.

Interesting legal conundrum in the state run by anti-abortionists

I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times. Illegal immigrants aren't "stealing our jobs". Construction labor. Farm labor. Etc. It's jobs most US citizens can't do because it's highly skilled and highly specialized labor. Shit, the pay is so shit that most Americans won't even accept these jobs because they know it's exploitive (the immigrants know they're being exploited to but they know they're also being taken advantage of because they're immigrants).
That's not to mention it's literally back-breaking labor in sweltering temperatures and most citizens can't handle the physical labor or the heat.
DeSantis banning immigration labor is going to
Cause prices to go up because American citizens won't do back-breaking labor for less than minimum wage.
Cause a labor shortage because most Americans just can't fucking handle the work he immigrants do.
Cause a produce shortage because they can't get anyone out to harvest the crops and truck drivers are refusing to travel to Florida because this law will cause any Hispanic person trying to work in Florida to be harassed.
Don't ever fucking tell me this shit is unskilled labor.
(This isn't to say immigrants deserve the exploitation they're receiving. They're human and should be treated as such. This is just to say our economy depends on immigrants because they're the only ones that have the fucking skills to do it efficiently.)

The State University System of Florida has at least two institutions with active National SJP chapters, according to Rodrigues. Citing state law that deems the knowing provision of material support to a terrorist group as a felony, he said that the two chapters cannot continue operating.
“These chapters exist under the headship of the National Students for Justice in Palestine, who distributed a toolkit identifying themselves as part of the Operation Al-Aqsa Flood,” the memo stated. “Based on the National SJP’s support of terrorism, in consultation with Governor DeSantis, the student chapters must be deactivated. These two student chapters may form another organization that complies with Florida state statutes and university policies. The two institutions should grant these two chapters a waiver for the fall deadlines, should reapplication take place.”
The measure will affect SJP chapters at the University of North Florida, located in Jacksonville, and Florida State University, located in Tallahassee.
Support for terrorism against Israeli civilians among SJP chapters is not new. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL), for example, reported that SJP expressed on at least 10 occasions last year admiration for Leila Khaled, a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a US-designated terror group. She is known for previously hijacking two planes.
Other SJP chapters at the University of Texas, Dallas, New York University Law School, and the University of Massachusetts posted violent images containing PLFP’s logo and guns. In January, the University of Chicago’s SJP chapter honored Khairy Alqam — who murdered seven Israeli civilians exiting a synagogue in Jerusalem — in a collage titled “Honoring the Martyrs.”
DeSantis has taken previous steps to crack down on anti-Israel activity in Florida.

Um... I was on Youtube and I just saw this cursed af image of Moxxie in an upcoming ep. ..WTF is going on??
TW: NOT SAFE FOR LIFE MENTION!
Ok, already answered this, but:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The stans harassed me real hard for this one. One even called drag queens "F&&GOTS!" and said that the laws I literally said were genocide were "GOOD LAWS!" because some of them, are just that desperate for Helluva Boss softcore porn that they'd let stereotypes of androgynous people being stereotyped as "A DANGER TO CHILDREN!" be released to the public, in the middle of a harsh political climate from people using the exact stereotype Vivziepop put into this episode to justify a potiential minority genocide.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Multiple fans either supported the ant-trans laws, are homophobic, or called me saying that trans lives don't deserve to die for being trans "MAKING ME LOSE BRAINCELLS! SO STUPID!"
Tumblr media
So even something as universal as:
Tumblr media
"Hey Spindlehorse, this is an episode that contains stereotypes that are currently being used against the lgbt+ community to encourage a genocide happening in Florida right now towards androygnous people, transgender people, and drag queens and transphobes have been trying to make lgbt+, as a whole, look like "a danger to/around kids!" to try to justify getting us harassed, abused, along with killed and to use the public's fear of what they dont understand to vote more transphobes into office. transphobes! So maybe, actually care about your representation of minorities instead of shoving in stereotypes for 4chan views? Especially at a time where we need all the good representation we can get and releasing this episode so soon could cause literal deaths within the lgbt+ community to have an even further chance of happening if there's more public media representing us as "A danger around children." You know... a stereotype being used, right now, to justify a literal genocide against minorities, and conservatives are using these stereotypes to make people paranoid of us and our existence, so Vivienne, maybe consider your timing for the sake of the lgbtqia community, as a whole -and dont release this episode in such a politically hostile climate towards LGBTQ+ known as 2023 and post pone it until things cool down so people don't potientially get killed because more people voted for Desantis because of your content for the love of God, stereotypes are not "just hyperbole!" this is getting serious now at this point what are you doing?!"
Still ended up causing the stans to say shit like this, because they're that hellbent on getting more material of Moxxie being fetishized and mocked for being feminine as rushed out as possible, even to the level of sexualizing him while he's meant to be disguised as a preteen girl, that they'd ignore real life genocide towards minorities and how Vivziepop's episode will 100% effect the votes towards Desantis next year, so these are the exact stereotypes Viv should not be using in this episode, at all, especially this year, as conservatives have been trying to make us look like a "DANGER AROUND CHILDREN!" for decades and to release this episode in a political climiate currently using this exact stereotype to try to justify genocide towards the trans community, if it means that they get to further fetishize feminine men by calling them "FEMBOYS!" and jacking off to more Helluva Boss hentai on 4CHAN and Rule 34, and instead of... I dont know... caring about real people that are suffering right now?!
Tumblr media
.... this is the "progressive good faith!" standom Vivziepop told you about... they're definitely not "good faith" that's for sure.
So it's no wonder why there are multiple Vivziepop stans that would ignore or defend something like Vivziepop's transphobic dms or ignore the fact that she supports Blaire White:
Tumblr media
THEY ARE TRANSPHOBIC.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
PS: Femme Moxxie is not "cursed. Femme Moxxie is still just as valid and cool as macullaine Moxxie. Double PS: The fact that I even heard the words "trans genocide are good laws!" come out of a Helluva Boss stan's mouth, right after Pride Month, RIGHT after Pride Month, shows just how down the shitter this fandom has become.... holy shit...

Never mess with Disney’s legal department. Ever.
Disney just pulled the ULTIMATE POWER MOVE on DeSantis in response to him trying to bully them for being “Woke”. Basically they used Rules against perpetuities to include a clause that granted them free creative land and management over all of their land aside from road management until, and I quote, “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England,”. So, essentially days before DeSantis signed the law and installed his hand picked board to “Oversee and manage” Disney, Disney, in quietly and in plain sight, kneecapped Desantis’ board and stripped it of all power. So it means that DeSantis signed a law that gave him NO power and means the government now has to foot the bill until at the very least 2044. Granted, it will be longer since the youngest current living descendant, Lilibet, is only 1.
This is all completely legal and legit. DeSantis can complain and whine all he wants but it’s on him for not keeping a closer eye on what the ol’ House of Mouse was up to. Guess that’s why they’ve been so quiet about this thing.

Errors and Bias in State-Sponsored Summer Teacher Training
This summer in Florida the governor, Ron DeSantis, enacted the next part in his plan to mutilate the public education system. There were many issues with this teacher training. Notably a focus on "originalism" as the only correct way to read the constitution and a rejection of strict separation of church and state. This framing of history is tailored to support right-wing politics and Christian Nationalism. The presentations included slides for teaching “Qualities of an Upright and Desirable Citizen” and a section titled “Misconception: The Founders desired strict separation of church and state and the Founders only wanted to protect Freedom of worship.” (Focus on "what the founders want" and "what the founders could imagine" is baked in to this framing. Even then this is hardly an area of consensus among historians.) I'd like to focus on how slavery was presented. Very little was said to teachers about slavery at the training. So, what was said is even more important. The little information presented was selective, using intentional errors to push an ideological narrative. Consider this slide from the teacher training Slave owners Washington and Jefferson are selected as the best people from their time to articulate "Opposition to Slavery" (couldn't think think of anyone better to quote on this topic? anyone more relevant? Maybe someone who didn't have a vested interest in slavery?):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The quote attributed to Washington is mangled! Washington never even said this quote as presented. He said something similar, true, but the tone of the real quote is very different.
" ... abolished by law." should be " ... abolished by slow, sure, & imperceptable degrees." (source) This is, presumably, the very best quote they could find from Washington. Another slide on slavery from the teacher training:
Tumblr media
No major factual errors in this one, but factual errors aren't the only way to introduce bias. Considering how little was said about slavery what impression would these facts leave? Why is it important to mention that the number of slaves "increased in America through birth?" Is the implication that being born into slavery is a different kind of moral evil than being trafficked directly from Africa? Teachers in FL (and all states) should absolutely teach about these slides. In media literacy context of course! It's possible to push an agenda in many ways. By selecting what to present and what to ignore, through inaccuracies, by framing statistics in a misleading manner and placing facts together to lead the reader to an unspoken conclusion. This is terrifying. It joins the attacks on LGBTQ communities and especially the eliminationist rhetoric and legislation targeting trans people. Florida is going in a very dangerous direction. Ultimately, the plan is to drag the whole country along with them. I firmly believe we can stop this from happening, but I do not think it will be easy. Sources:
