sometimes I think I want a list of things people know/do/say because they were in a specific fandom at a specific time and never shall anything else explain it. Like everyone who isn't Canadian who can say "The year was 1778!" and then sing all of Barrett's Privateers.

Ms Notley: Earlier today Karen Kuprys, a registered nurse not consulted, said that private care facilities had the worst fatality rates during the peak of the pandemic. Will the Premier commit that under no circumstances will the government sell CapitalCare or Carewest to the private sector?
Ms Smith: This is the reason why you have to look at the most up-to-date information as opposed to a slide deck from two months ago, because we go through a process where we get feedback, and the feedback that we got is that Alberta Health Services should continue to run those two facilities.
I will correct the record, Mr. Speaker. Alberta did very well during COVID. We did not have the same level of problems as they did in Quebec, for instance, and it’s because we had . . . [interjection]

Colorado gun owners - you make me proud to be an American!!!
500 scheduled to speak in opposition - normal folks like you and me!!!
The committee had problems with “loud applause”
This is how you make your voice heard, the original way that the Colorado and US constitutions outlined.
In Washington they were too scared of this and have the members sign bills like this in the middle of the night in secret.
There’s that “come up this mountain and make me” attitude towards Denver that I love so much.
Thanks for my daily White Pill, Coloradans!!!!!!!!

I love how on Tumblr, "media literacy" has become "Um, just because someone writes about this doesn't mean they're endorsing this. I hate all these media puritans ruining everything."
I'm sad to inform you that knowing when and whether an author is endorsing something, implying something, saying something, is also part of media literacy. Knowing when they are doing this and when they're not is part of media literacy. Assuming that no author has ever endorsed a bad thing is how you fall for proper gander. It's not media literacy to always assume that nobody ever has agreed with the morally reprehensible ideas in their work.
Sometimes, authors are endorsing something, and you need to be aware when that happens, and you also need to be aware when you're doing it as an author. All media isn't horny dubcon fanfic where you and the author know it's problematic IRL but you get off to it in the privacy of your brain. Sometimes very smart people can convince you of something that'll hurt others in the real world. Sometimes very dumb people will romanticize something without realizing they're doing it and you'll be caught up in it without realizing that you are.
Being aware of this is also media literacy. Being aware of the narrative tools used to affect your thinking is media literacy. Deciding on your own whether you agree with an author or not is media literacy. Enjoying characters doing bad things and allowing authors to create flawed or cruel characters for the sake of a story is perfectly fine, but it is not the same as being media literate. Being smug about how you never think an author has bad intentions tells me you're edgy, not that you're media literate. You can't use one rule to apply to all media. That's not how media literacy works. Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Aheem heem. Anyway.

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.
it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.
and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.
edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.
