Canadians: TIME-SENSITIVE CALL TO ACTION! 🛑 Monday, March 18 is CRITICAL. The is forcing a vote in Parliament on an immediate ceasefire, an arms embargo on Israel, full restoration of funding for UNRWA, imposing sanctions on genocidal Israeli officials and officially recognizing the State of Palestine. All NDP Members of Parliament will unanimously support the motion. It will be up to the and to pass it, since all Conservatives will no doubt vote against it. Call your MP asking them to support this motion.
Sample email: Hello, My name is ABC and I live in City, Province, and I’m calling/writing out of concern for what is happening in Gaza. On Monday March 18, do the right thing and support the NDP’s Opposition Day motion, which calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, an arms embargo, the full restoration of UNRWA funding and humanitarian aid, and more. We need you to use all levers you have to push for the only humanitarian solution that really matters: an end to the atrocities.

Also, content-lock-free link. [Technically it's not a paywall but it is annoying]
Keep pressuring Western governments. This is proof that it can work.

"Canada will halt future arms sales to Israel following a non-binding vote in the house of commons. The foreign affairs minister, Mélanie Joly, told the Toronto Star her government would halt future arms shipments. “It is a real thing,” she said on Tuesday [March 19].
The decision follows a parliamentary motion, introduced by the New Democratic party (NDP), that called on the governing Liberals to halt future arms exports to Israel. The New Democrats, who are supporting Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority government, have expressed frustration with what they see as his failure to do enough to protect civilians in Gaza.
The motion – which passed 204-117 with the support of Liberals, Bloc Québécois and the Green party – also called on Canada to work “towards the establishment of the state of Palestine.""

I saw this going around on reddit but not tumblr so I figured I'd share it here.
Tumblr media
The image was posted by Danielle herself and can be seen here. This symbol is associated with Liberty Fund, a far right American think tank that credits themselves as partially responsible for Ronald Reagans presidential campaign.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Danielle has claimed that it's not related and is the cuneiform symbols for "freedom" and "liberty", but ask yourself, do you really trust her to tell the truth? She's revised her campaign promises multiple times, continues to condone private healthcare despite signing a measure to protect public healthcare. I'm just saying it wouldn't be a stretch to guess she might be funded by them, afterall she has some pretty damn uncanadian ideas that parallel those across the border.

If you weren't disillusioned with the NDP's politics, what happened in BC with anjali appadurai should be more than enough proof that the establishment within the NDP is only interested in upholding the status quo. they had a chance to elect a climate activist and they did everything in their power to keep her out of the leadership race.
the NDP has an opportunity to be the better option and instead, time and time again, they choose to ignore it and align themselves more and more with centrism, ending up being only marginally better than the liberal party. this is what I mean when I say that most of the change we need can't be made within the existing system. our major political parties will resist leftist ideas and leaders even if it means alienating a significant amount of their supporters.
canadians can look down their noses at the two party system in the usa all they want, but what the NDP did to anjali appadurai is exactly what the democrats in the states did to bernie sanders. at the slightest hint of leftist ideology, they ran scared and pushed a status quo candidate with no interest in making meaningful change.

LGBTQ2S Rights
Member Arcand-Paul: Mr. Speaker, I rise to speak today wearing a beautiful ribbon skirt that was gifted to me to represent my communities. I’m wearing it today to take up space as a tastawiyiniw, a two-spirit person, an individual that possesses both the masculine and feminine energies, a people that were revered on these lands since time immemorial, before the arrival of settlers with the ideology that our people were sinful.
I do so in this House as a mark of defiance across from this government, which has threatened the existence of my relatives. I’m wearing this to remind them that as long as my colleagues and I are sitting here, we will always stand up and defend human rights in this province. I am wearing this ribbon skirt to remind this government that we are not going anywhere, that we belong in this province, and that we will not let them take away the human rights of our trans, gender-diverse, and two-spirit family members.
But this is not about me. This is about the trans youth that this government has targeted. Over the last couple of weeks I’ve heard from countless community members, trans folks, organizations, doctors, parents, athletes, coaches, professors, teachers, and experts in many other fields. They cannot believe their government has chosen to target vulnerable kids while there are so many areas that this government is failing in. Instead, they are seeing their government taking away freedoms of Albertans. The Premier is bullying queer youth for her own personal gain and, in so doing, is emboldening hate between Albertans.
In the United States Nex Benedict was murdered by bullies at their school in a state that had equivalent legislative attacks on the queer community as the Premier is attempting to do in Alberta. A trans person took their own life here because of this inflated political rhetoric in our province, and I worry, just like the parents of trans youth in this province, that we will have more deaths because of this government’s harmful rhetoric. I should not have to rise in this House to remind this government that my people deserve to live and deserve human rights. To the trans, gender-diverse, and two-spirit youth: we see you, we love you, you matter; we will keep working to build an Alberta that is safe for you to live in.

“The Palestinian people have the right to a state, and this right is nearly universally recognized at the United Nations. Today, 140 other States (139 UN member states and the Holy See) already recognize the State of Palestine. After decades of the near universal affirmation, including by Canada, that the Palestinian people have a right to self-determination, members of the international community must see to it that this right is finally given effect before it is too late. The United States and United Kingdom have said they are looking into avenues to recognize the State of Palestine and Canada must do the same. For decades Palestinians have been subject to foreign military occupation, resulting in the denial of political and economic sovereignty and the right to move and live freely within what are considered to be Palestinian territories. Canada’s longstanding policy ‘recognizes the Palestinian right to self-determination and supports the creation of a sovereign, independent, viable, democratic and territorially contiguous Palestinian state, as part of a comprehensive, just and lasting peace settlement.’

Shout out to the NDP getting bill C-223 into the second reading in the house of commons. Bill C-223 is trying to get a framework for universal basic income in canada built. This is why every canadian should be voting NDP in every local and federal election.

I don’t usually get too political on this blog, but…
If you’re from Alberta, for the love of all that is good in humanity, please go and VOTE.
Danielle Smith wants to privatize healthcare, remove funding from programs that actively help people, blames late stage cancer diagnosis patients for not noticing their condition sooner, among numerous other terrible things. And true to the usual UCP bull, she cares more about money and oil and trades more than the actual people of the province.
She is a huge admirer of Ron DeSantis and thinks he’s doing a great job, which I’m sure anyone from the US and especially Florida can tell you is NOT a good thing!!
Please… if you want a premier that at least cares about people and not just money, vote NDP.
Rachel Notley is far from perfect, but she is a hell of a lot better than the alternative. She at least actually cares about people, and cares about the marginalized in our society. She may not balance the budget, but she will fund education, healthcare and other important things, rather than funnelling everything into a dying economy and ignoring the citizens struggling.
If you don’t want hate and cold disregard to rule our province for the next 4 years, vote NDP. Liberal, Green and any other party don’t stand a chance. This is UCP vs NDP, period.
Vote orange if you care about the people around you.
Thanks for listening. Let’s all cross our fingers that tonight’s vote isn’t the start of rights being taken away. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
