i think you may have answered this when you mentioned your favorite artists, but are there any series besides gundam that inspired the mech designs in particular of coquette dragoon? you mention 0079 being your favorite gundam and an inspiration yet coquette's aesthetic is quite different from it
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lilac in particular I drew mostly from Patlabor, Knights of Sidonia, and particularly Gundam IBO and particularly designs from 0080 and Stardust Memory (the Mika Akitaka style I guess you'd call it)
For the Duchy, I mostly drew from Polynians, and to a much lesser extent stuff like Five Star Stories or Escaflowne.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I settled on it pretty early that I wanted the dragoons to feel toylike, I mostly reference Gunpla etc for the Lilac and robot girl/mecha musume style designs for the Duchy, with the Lilac reflecting a more 'real robot' military sensibility (like the Coquette having a scaled up M16), and the Duchy being like suits of armor.

12. What was your last dream about?
Y'know, I was thinking about that not too long ago because I so rarely get dreams these days - but a couple of nights ago I dream that I wasn't getting things done. I think I dreamed that I was cleaning my apartment? I might have dreamed about packing up some minis - because that's something that's been neglected as of late.
13. What talents do you have?
Oh, love, getting a Swede to speak highly of themselves is impossible. But, however, I have been living abroad for years and picked up some nasty habits. I like to think I got a good grasp of miniature painting, and I can write them words good. In later years I have nurtured and encouraged my social skills, and I actually can strike a conversation with strangers.
And, also, I suppose I am a good shot at the range. Didn't fire a rifle in nearly 7 years - then when I came back home to Sweden and went to the range with the moving targets - he joked that I wasn't allowed to do it anymore because I put him to shame.
30. How many pillows do you sleep with?
I used to do 2, but these days it is just 1. Partly I am cheap, and I hope it can help a bit with my posture.
34. Have you ever fired a gun?
Welp, spoiled above - but yes. I grew up in a community with a fair amount of hunters, and pops had been hunting for about 10 years before I was born. So, bolt-action rifles, shotguns, pistols. Specifically, the Swedish Mauser (the old army 6.5x55mm and the safari rifle 9.3x62mm), some double-barrel shotgun for my hunter's exam when I was 15, the old service pistol 9mm Lahti, and a .44 Magnum S&W.
35. Have you ever tried archery?
I actually haven't. I know a guy that does it now and then - former Army Ranger type - I might ask him to give it a shot. Hehe.
45. What is your favorite accent?
A tough one. I have a soft spot for the almost archaic Gute of Gotland, but for something more people will know about - I am a massive sucker for Irish accents. I am not educated enough to tell the different dialects apart, but take Miles O'Brien from Star Trek and I am sold.
Or a Scottish lass. I am also sold on that.
90. What makes you angry?
Oh, a predictable and perhaps basic answer would be something like "injustice" and "prejudice", which does make my blood boil - but something a bit more close to him I have met in my personal life often is a lack of imagination, or making assumptions in a discussion and assume the worst. Now, it is a skill to practice as with most things, but in a discussion for example - when someone does not know about the topic that is being discussed assumes the most negative intent behind something uttered - and cannot give it a benefit of the doubt or ask for clarification. It is a frustrating thing.
Though, that would be "frustrating". Genuinely angry? Yeah. I think injustice and prejudice is a good answer when all things are said and done.

I wanted the write this ask because you've been one of brightest lights on tumblr for a lot of people, for some time now. Your video about standing on the shoulders of giants made me cry, so much. The content you've been posting about Queer history and our community has played a huge part in reclaiming and coming to terms with who I am, and the "Just a fag" post hit on something for me that I can't even describe. I don't even know how to thank you for everything you're doing, and have done, for me and this community. You're one of the people keeping the torch burning during one of the darkest chapters in history, both for our community and of this country. I don't know what my generation would do without your generation's shoulders to stand on, and I know that people from my generation can be difficult but there are a lot of amazing kids my age trying their best, and you're teaching them about their roots, and how to fight. You're fucking brilliant, keep doing what you're doing, and thank you, for everything.
Every once in a while, I get an ask which I actually print out and stick in a folder with asks like it and some customer emails and things, and when I'm feeling burnt out beyond all belief, sad and lost and tired, and wonder why I do all of this, what does it fucking matter, we tried so hard and this is the world we're giving you all, I'm so sorry, what am I doing, then I take out that folder and I read it.
This is one of those asks.
Thank you.

hello! I hope you’re having a great day! I was wondering if there’s any meaning behind people in this fandom using “woof” “bark” or any other dog sounds? It might sound silly and possibly I’m just bringing up a topic of no concern but I was wondering if you knew anything about it, seeing you’ve been able to spread helpful information on the term “rat” towards Jewish people is wrong.
Hi! Thank you, I hope your day is awesome too.
That's a good question. 😊 I'm very glad my post about the antisemitic sentiment associated with the term "rat" has been helpful for people. It's important to know about these things, and even more important to ask the tough questions and not blindly follow into the use of certain terminology "because everyone else is doing it".
That said, I am unaware of dog sounds being used in the same way. If we look at fandom, sounds like "bark" are mainly used in a sense of being rabid about something or someone. You're barking at it, maybe going a little feral, if someone took you off a leash you'd devour them whole, thatg sorta thing -- it's very appreciative of something in a little more lewd, slightly unhinged sorta style. Like being a rabid fan, really!
Also, it always reminds me of the song Who Let The Dogs Out. Which is probably the exact feeling fandom's talking about when they start barking, haha. 😂 I'm unaware of any real negative connotations for the dog sounds, and it's certainly not on the same level as the terminology that has been used to suppress and dehumanize people throughout history.
If I'm wrong about this, y'all, please let me know in the comments/reblogs. 💚

Any headcanons on Carlo’s Mom?
Her name is Viviana... she had a younger brother and came from a humble family in Nettuno, Rome. They visited the little Florence village Geppetto lives in for trading and food and such. Then Vivi met Geppetto and grew to like him.
Viviana was 24, Geppetto was 30. It was 1896. Simpler times. Geppetto’s taken with this young woman's energetic personality and how well she can paint. She teaches him to paint, he teaches her to carve - they become a duo.
He tries to let her enjoy her youth a bit more before they get together. When they do, they're the sweetest couple ever. But he never consummated the marriage right away because she has a chronic illness. Her nose bled rapidly before the wedding.
Eventually after 10 years, he and her do end up - well, you know. And she’s pregnant with Carlo. He frets over her a lot. But in the final month he has hopes it will work out. She writes a song and they sing it to her bump - their son.
Unfortunately she dies in childbirth. Carlo is all Geppetto’s got left of her.
Viviana's final words were "He's perfect" and she died with a smile. She was there to greet Carlo in heaven, take care of him till he wandered to Deaths realm. Then she greeted Geppetto at heavens gate, years later. They watched as their son- their Pinocchio- grew in strange ways. How he eventually ventured off into the world.
Rest is history.

lax, mild, and hasty for the meme!! (@eartheats)
Lax - I usually grab my stuff and go for a hike in the woods. There are still some paths and trails I haven't discovered yet.
If I have a few days I'll even go camping
other than that I'll hang out at a local cafe (mmm milkshake) or stay home and watch stuff
Mild - I've been told I have the patience of a bubble. 3
Hasty - We're fast and sporadic. I trained Leif to hit fast and hard. Things are always easier to deal with when they're gone right away

do you have any books/readable/watchable things that helped you with writing/storytelling?
catch 22 is a delight to read and i think teaches you how to make prose funny and sharp, it’s always been a huge reason i wanted to write since i read it as a teen. for me it’s why i write war fiction lol
lately i got into reading dennis cooper, ursula le guin and mishima (the holy trinity of gay people authors lmao) and it has revitalised me… they’re all masters of form in their own way and the subject matter is really mentally liberating. you read le guins magnum opus on incest omegaverse and your soul is fixed forever and you never feel shame about your work again
if you want just one recommendation for an easy and short read, pick up le guins lathe of heaven
my other recommendation is, read higurashi and umineko. ryukishi is not a master of form, and couldn’t write prose to save his life, but, he can still completely captivate the reader through emotional honesty and how intricately he portrays the lives and mentalities of the characters. i think his stuff changed my life because it’s so crudely put together but utterly affecting, his talents as a director and storyteller outweigh everything else. his work is why i make vns and believe in the medium. you don’t need to be a trained professional to tell a story or draw a character etc, you can just make what you wanna make and learn as you go.
i think… my biggest advice is read a lot, and read out of your comfort zone. try and accept you don’t need to be the best or most competent at prose if you can communicate the emotion in your work, but also read dense complex books and see what you can take from it and learn about form. i’m still working on that part myself and have a long way to go

4. which cryptid being do you believe in?
Oh, geeze, that's a tough one. I am the kind of believer in cryptids in the sense of "many legends have some origins", like how I think "trolls" at some point may be an ancestral legend since the time of Neanderthals or a pre-European population that the Indo-Europeans met and had conflicts with when they moved in thousands of years ago, but as far as cryptids I believe exist today as they are spoken about in every sense... maybe the Black Cats of the UK, or the Kraken (though not as big as an island as some say, in original Norwegian/Swedish, "krake" means 'pitiful and sickly little thing').
21. something you’ve kept since childhood?
Oh dear. Some things I kept since childhood were lost in the move from Canada back to Sweden, some things are still at my parent's house that they just keep in the barn because throwing everything out is never their style. But in my possession right now?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah. I got a few books from when I was a kid
31. what type of music keeps you grounded?
I rightly don't know! I listen to a wide range of stuff, and some stuff I listen to that I want to evoke certain emotions but I don't know of any music that is going to keep me down-to-Earth. The really good music I listen to often gets me very emotional, I don't know what calms me down.
I need to give that one a big think.
43. what’s your take on spicy foods?
An old bud of mine once said he doesn't like spicy food because it exists to hide that the meat is spoiled. I don't go that far, but I don't indulge in REALLY hot food. A small burn to elevate flavours is good, but if I eat something that makes me sweat then either it was part of a prank, or a grave mistake.
