I was at the global climate strike today. Between 12k, according to police, and 24k people, according to Fridays For Future, here in Berlin were at the stage and or marched through the government district (the true number is somewhere inbetween).
My favorite moment was when a group of first graders (6 or 7 year olds) were taking turns leading the protest chants and all the grown ups around doing the answering calls.

Please read
I've been protesting since i was two. I have memorised the chants, the speeches, the songs, the same arguments over and over and *over* again. I have signed over 500 petitions, i have attended over 150 marches, I have presented over 10 speeches personally. I don't remember when I learned about climate change because i always knew, so why didn't others?
I remember asking my Mother when i was around eight where she first learnt about it. When she was in year 8, back in 89-90. She said to me "I remember my teacher explaining it to us and thinking 'why isn't anyone doing anything'" She told me it's not that we don't have the answers, its we don't have the materials.
Now I know that is code for "the government is refusing to fund this" or "The government doesn't believe this is an issue" ect ect. Again and again, a new issue that needs to be solved or address or fixed before "we can focus on climate change"
Let me tell you ***You can not fight every battle*** But I try to. This latest "stunt" [Aliens aren't real] by the USA is yet another distraction from the biggest issue, The Atlantic ocean is facing a collapse.
Due to amount of cold water coming from the melted Greenland Ice sheets, It will cause the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC) to collapse and shut down.
The last time this happened was around 15,000-14,500 years ago, at the end of the last ice age. It lead to a collapse of weather cycles, temperatures plunge and spike, ecosystems to collaspe.
If it collapses, La Niña could become the norm for Australia.
You can do something. I know because I've done something. So do it.

""This is directed at world leaders," said Mitzi Jonelle Tan, a climate activist with youth movement Fridays for Future in Manila, the Philippines.
"The fossil fuel industry's time is up. We need a just transition, and we need to phase out the fossil fuels causing the destruction of our environment," she told Reuters.
"We're taking to the streets to demand that African leaders phase out on fossil fuels and focus on investing in community-led renewable energy, to meet the energy demand for the 600 million Africans who do not have access to electricity," said Eric Njuguna, a climate activist based in Nairobi, Kenya.
Organisers said they would call on governments to immediately end subsidies for oil and gas and to cancel any plans for expanding production.
Governments spent a record-high $7 trillion in subsidies to oil, gas and coal last year, according to an IMF analysis
The demonstrations take place two months before this year's U.N. COP28 climate summit, where more than 80 countries plan to push for a global agreement to gradually phase out coal, oil and gas.
[...]A U.N. report last week warned that the world was on a dangerous track toward severe global warming, and said more action was needed on all fronts, including a drastic drop in coal-fuelled power use by 2030.
The report also urged a massive boost in financial investment to developing countries for both clean energy and measures to adapt to rising heat, worsening storms and other consequences of the warming climate, the U.N. said.

The more I learn and am understanding my place in liberation, the more I understand that mutual aid is at the core of it. It is at the core of what we need to be doing. Governments and ppl in power are able to get away with sm bc we rely on them for our survival needs, and the only way for us to get our needs met is through labour and fueling an unjust economy. So the only way to take away governments power is to end our reliance on them, in turn removing our labour as well as giving us the ability to further strike to the extend we need to. Because frankly we cannot pull off the type of strikes we need right now. Obviously they’re not pointless, we should still participate in global strikes in any way we can, but ppl need to eat. Ppl need to pay rent, pay for healthcare, just survive. Who is going to feed these people while they’re on strike and don’t have an income? Who is going to make sure everyone will be taken care of? Mutual aid not only gives us the ability to resist the way we need to, but also actively builds the type of community that we want to see. It is building a better world while giving us the tools to fight this current system. The usual list of actions like protesting, boycotting, sharing information, are all super important but I wish to see more focus and encouragement for building mutual aid organizations. Community is key.

Global Climate Strike - What I´ve got to say
I thought I´d share the speech that I made today at my city´s climate strike. It went quite well and I hope that in this way I can reach a few more people. :)
Hello and thank you all for coming! My name is Sam, I´m here with and on behalf of Klimatstudenterna, a student association at the university.
When I joined the association, it was out of a desire to meet people who think like me and who care as much about this planet and its incredible, unique nature as I do. I grew up in the alps and I´m spending a lot of time biking, hiking, kayaking, trekking, and diving through this diverse and awe-inspiring wonderland that we call home. But I´ve also been aware of its problems since the age of seven, and now that I´m studying environmental engineering, I´m closer to the gruesome reality that we face than ever before.
We are living in a time of change, and time to change the direction in which we are going is running short. However, today I don´t want to focus on all the negative effects that we are having on this planet, but to offer a change of perspective.
For most of humanity´s existence, we´ve been at nature´s mercy. At the mercy of the weather, of bad harvests, of the seasons and the animals that competed with us for food and shelter. All of that has changed within less than two centuries. Scientists have declared that the stable period that allowed us to become what we are today, has ended. The Holocene, the geographical age that we´ve been living in for the past 10.000 years, has ended, and we have entered the Anthropocene, the age of humans. Because we are the factor with the greatest influence on planet earth. That is a scary thought. We are no longer cradled within the embrace of the big wide world, the world is depending on our decisions to thrive. Or not to thrive, because this will not be the case for long. In a short few years, climate change will be the decisive factor that will change the face of the earth. We´ve sown wind, and we´ll harvest storm. Maybe more storm than we can take.
However, the window is still open to do something about that. We are in the age of the Anthropocene, and it is up to us to decide in which way we want to shape the planet. Do we want to exploit and deforest it? Or do we want to give that space back to the wilderness? Do we want to keep polluting the oceans with plastic, phosphorus and PFAS? Or do we want to protect and clean them, so our children will experience clear waters and abundant marine live, like our grandparents did. Do we want to be the destructors of this planet? Or its shepherds?
It is a great responsibility, and I don´t like the thought of humanity being this powerful, but it´s time to feel responsible  for all the living things out there, because it really is up to us. We have to decide if we want to be the shepherds or the destructors of this planet. We have to decide that as a species, as a country, as a region, as a commune, and also as individuals. Likewise, every bit of climate action is needed, global action as much as nationwide, regional, communal, and individual action. At the same time, because there is no time to dawdle and argue about who should fix it, EVERYONE should fix it, in their own way and capacity.
Be it biking to work, be it investing in clean energy. Be it voting in favor of the environment in the upcoming EU-election, and any other election, or be it voting in favor of the environment as a part of the EU-parliamen, or any other parliament. Be it making informed purchase decisions, or maybe not purchasing anything at all. Be it growing tomatoes on your balcony or turning your mass production pig farm into a mushroom farm. From parliaments to nursing homes and from work places to living rooms, there is something that everyone of us can do right now to fix this.
I want to be a shepherd of the earth.
What about you?

Sixteen young people who say the state isn’t doing enough to address climate change will get their day in court Monday. The lawsuit argues that lack of action violates plaintiffs’ rights under the state Constitution. This is the first youth climate lawsuit to ever make it all the way to trial in the U.S.

A duty of care

Anjali Sharma, aged 16, has sued the federal government over alleged climate inaction and lobbied in the halls of Canberra’s Parliament House for stronger climate laws.
“Don’t push us aside … we have real environmental and existential fears.”
Tumblr media
Alongside Sharma lobbying in parliament this week was 22-year-old April Harrison.
She was just eight years old when the Black Saturday fires tore through her community of Kinglake, 56 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, in 2009.
Walled in by fire, she was forced to shelter in her house along with three of her siblings, as their dad fought the fire outside.
They survived, but many others in her community tragically did not. Of the 173 people who died on that terrible day, 120 were from the Kinglake area, leaving scars that will last generations.
A global movement

Ditching school for a day — to save the planet.
‘It’s not just me’: How an idea to ditch school sparked a global climate movement that’s giving kids hope.
From the streets, to the courts, to the halls of parliament, the youth climate movement continues to knock on the doors of power.
