Hey everyone, please consider buying the 2024 itch.io Palestinian Relief Bundle- it's 373 games, game-making assets, tabletop roleplaying games, zines, and comics for a minimum of just 8 USD! They have a goal of 100,000 USD, and as of the time I'm writing this post, they have 8 more days to reach it.

Link will be in the reblog!

saw a sign that said "honor aaron bushnell, free palestine" and man. why don't we honor the 40,000+ palestinians martyred in the last 200+ days. why don't we honor the palestinians who israel has maassacred in the last 75+ years. why don't we honor the palestinian villages wiped off the map. why don't we honor the entire lineages whom israel murdered. idk maybe yall need to think about why it took a white man self immolating for you to care about palestine!

you are not a bad person because of your memory loss. you are not less intelligent because of your memory loss. you are not less caring because of your memory loss.
memory loss isn’t your fault and you don’t deserve to feel ashamed.

"Don't use Libby because it costs libraries too much, pirate instead" is such a weird, anti-patron, anti-author take that somehow manages to also be anti-library, in my professional librarian-ass opinion.
It's well documented that pirating books negatively affects authors directly* in a way that pirating movies or TV shows doesn't affect actors or writers, so I will likely always be anti-book piracy unless there's absolutely, positively no other option (i.e. the book simply doesn't exist outside of online archives at all, or in a particular language).
Also, yeah, Libby and Hoopla licenses are really expensive, but libraries buy them SO THAT PATRONS CAN USE THEM. If you're gonna be pissed at anybody about this shitty state of affairs, be pissed at publishing companies and continue to use Libby or Hoopla at your library so we can continue to justify having it to our funding bodies.
One of the best ways to support your library having services you like is to USE THOSE SERVICES. Yes, even if they are expensive.
*Yes, this is a blog post, but it's a blog post filled with links to news articles. If you can click one link, you can click another.

If you can afford it now might be a good time to stock up on N95 respirators or invest in an elastomeric reusable respirator that you won't have to replace the filters in as often.
N5H1 (bird flu) has been transmitted to humans a bunch of times independently, most recently in Texas. So far it seems like the death rate is close to 50% so it's pretty scary. The concern is if human to human transmission starts. It will likely be worse than covid at least in the acute stage. Also like measles and tuberculosis have been popping up more recently.
So basically start getting prepared before people start panic buying. If demand ramps up more slowly and people start buying supplies early there will be more supplies for everyone. Plus you and your family will be better equipped. The preppers on reddit are already starting to prepare.

No one is discrediting the student protests. I myself am a student who is partaking in largely student-coordinated protests, drives, campaigns… but I also understand that we are largely missing the point if coverage of these protests overshadows what they are actually protesting for—the atrocities committed on Palestinians every single day. As the western buzz around this genocide gets more and more coverage, the coverage of the genocide itself sharply declines. It’s true and I see it every single day. Things are not being reported with the precision and diligence they should be.
