Hello wooOooOo and other ghost sounds :)
Lately your piece Chanterelles has been living rent-free in my head, it's so beautiful!! I would love to hear about your inspirations/process for that piece? if you don't mind of course!! Love how you captured magic and whimsy wah <3
Hello!!:D Nice to see another ghost friend in my inbox!
So for that one the idea was pretty simple!
First I looked at pictures of chanterelles
Tumblr media
They have such a nice frilly top! But I wanted to avoid making the top into a dress so I could keep the "Shape" of the mushroom.
So I played around a bit with the idea of them going on a walk and ended up with this final sketch.
Tumblr media
That way I still had a bit of the frilly down into a dress but kept the top still recognizable as a mushroom.
eventually as I painted the colours changed into way more rich oranges and yellows and you have the final piece.:)
Tumblr media
I am so glad you like it so much.:D

Ghost pipes (Monotropa uniflora) are making a modest comeback. I never tire talking about these dudes; they are mycoheterotrophs, non-photosynthetic plants that get their nutrition by parasitizing the mycelia of mycorrhizal fungi, in this case usually Russulas. While mycorrhizal fungus in turn gets its food supply from a vascular plant, that relationship is one of mutual symbiosis. The mycoheterotroph, on the other hand, brings nothing to this throuple. Except its ethereal, creepy beauty, which arguably is the largest contribution
The fungus in this set is Cantharellus minor, the tiniest of its genus. It's edible but its cap is roughly as big as my pinkie nail, so it doesn't have any culinary value unless you're the size of a chipmunk. No sighting of actual chanterelles yet.

A Heart Of Stone-Chapter 2/36
Tumblr media
[Image description: A watercolor illustration of Willow Park from The Owl House holding two golden chanterelle mushrooms to her chest. The image is cropped so it only shows Willow from chin to chest. Willow is a pale-skinned girl with slate-blue hair hanging in a braid over her shoulder. She wears a pale green tank top. Her braid is fastened with a hair elastic the same color as the mushrooms and has several sprays of tiny purple flowers twisted into it. The background behind her is mottled green. ‘O I Forbid Ye’ is written at the bottom of the image in rust-red Gothic calligraphy. End ID.]
Willow Park didn’t believe in ghosts. Not really. She wasn’t prepared to write them off, like, conceptually, especially when her oldest friend wanted so badly to prove that something supernatural actually existed. She just didn’t think about them much when she wasn’t talking to Gus. And she certainly wasn’t scared of them. That would be silly. She was almost fifteen, anyway, and she had more important things to worry about than some weird stories about what lived in the woods down the street.
Which is why it meant absolutely nothing when she walked past the cheerful signs from a development company that no longer existed and climbed the wall that would take her into the Witch’s Wood.
Chapter 2 of my queerplatonic Tam Lin AU is up! And I finally figured out how to do image embeds on AO3! In this chapter: Willow finds some mushrooms, and also a very strange boy. Read it on AO3 or Start At The Beginning

Hi there, I’m Pollen! I’m a Pokémon trainer, currently traveling in the Paldea region, although I’m originally from Unova! This is just a silly little blog I made to document my journeys, my Pokémon, and to share my experiences with fellow Pokémon enthusiasts <3 I love all sorts of Pokémon, battling is one of my favorite things, and my best bud is a Talonflame named Fiero!
Tumblr media
Click the read more below to learn a bit more about me and my team!
I’ve been obsessed with Pokémon since I was a little kid, and I’ve always wanted to be a trainer. When I was 7, I got to go on a trip to Kalos, where I found a Fletchling! I took that little guy home with me, and he’s since evolved into the Fiero you know today <3
In order of when I caught them, my team consists of:
Fiero the Talonflame - My very first Pokémon, and my strongest as well! He’s very loyal and brave, although he can be a bit of a brat at times :p
King the Zoroark - The only Pokémon I have who’s actually from my home region! This little trickster stole a King’s Rock from me back when I was trying to buy one for Fiero at a shop, which is where he got his name once I befriended him! While he loves to cause mayhem, he’s also quite sweet, and actually gets a bit shy at times.
Venus the Primarina - Named after the Sunray Venus shell, Venus was actually the first Pokémon I caught during my stay in Alola! Reserved and calm, she’s the backbone of the team and makes sure that everyone is okay!
Chanterelle the Shiinotic - Chanterelle is outgoing, always eager to battle, and filled with energy. While they can really tire the rest of the team out sometimes, everyone knows how reliable this little powerhouse is. I found them in the Lush Jungle on Akala Island, during my travels in Alola!
Flan the Pawmot - Flan is the sweetest little Pokémon I’ve ever met! While she’s quite silly, she also packs a real punch, and carries my whole team quite a lot- and she’s quite a dependable friend!
Sunny the Altaria - Sunny is a very special Pokémon, because they're shiny! I named them after sunny-side-up eggs, because they’re white with a yellow center <3 trying to find a Swablu and ending up finding a shiny one was an incredibly interesting experience to say the least! Sunny is quite intelligent, and often figures out the best battle strategy before I can!
(OOC: Thanks if you read this far! This community seems so interesting, and I'm so excited to be a part of it! If you wanna talk to me outside of this blog, my main blog is @zoru-hq <3 but be warned, I'm shadowbanned! And I'll probably give you ghost notes lol- I will probably send you an ask on anon, signing off with this blog, if I follow you <3)

22/10/23
I missed the gentle caw caw noises crows make. The air smelled like wood-smoke and I could hear traditional music coming from my neighbours garden. Um-Ta-Ta music, they call it lovingly. I don't call it that lovingly. I could do without it, but it reminds me of my childhood, so I guess that's a good enough excuse to smile at it while walking by. The mixture between the low setting sun and the warm temperatures is unsetteling in a very subtle kind of way. It's not a crazy juxtaposition, but weird enough to be noticeable.
A small swarm of gnats were frantically flying zig-zag lines through the middle distance. I wondered, if they shouldn't be dead or frozen. By the time we put up halloween decorations, the forest is usually heavily painted in colours other than green, but this year it is still mostly yellow, or lush green.
This was the longest summer of my life. Yet.
It's 9 days until halloween and I still feel like it's late summer. A couple of weeks ago, people were still swimming in the danube. Normal people, not the crazy ice bathing ones.
I always wanted to move somewhere south, which is the central-european way of saying "somewhere warmer", but I never thought, that "south" would so freely move to central europe. Which is again, unsetteling, to say the least.
When I walked to the small creek that is near my family's house, I heard frogs croaking and noticed even more gnats hovering above the water.
Again, they should get ready to be frozen too, in my books.
I watched the crows again, flying circles over the fields, behind them the halfmoon, which has already risen. Beautiful.
Dad came back from the forest and told us, the wild boars ventured out into the fields again. I don't blame them.
They dig up big holes in the fields and the farmers and hunters have to close them again. I'm not exactly sure, what they are looking for. But probably bugs and roots.
I didn't go through the forest yet, to check for mushrooms. I don't look for edible ones, because I am very sure that I would kill myself and others, if I cooked anything I found in the woods. I know what chanterelles and toadstools look like, but that is it. I like to take pictures of them though. Last year I found a couple of fairy rings. That is the thing when mushroom grow in perfect circles. It has something to do with mycellium, but I'd rather think of it as something magical, which is more fun.
Mum harvested some apples and a huge zucchini. We made a ragout and applesauce. It always grounded me, to cook with foods that grow on the farm.
Our farm is situated in a small valley. I am sometimes jealous of the farms and houses, which are on the hills, because they get more sunshine and a better view. We are basically surrounded by forest. Which I don't hate.
Sometimes, we get deer grazing with their little ones, right in front of my window, under the apple trees. The scene feels very peaceful, especially when there is some fog lingering on the field, which happens a lot because of the little stream, that bubbles it's way through the houses.
It feels a little less peaceful during the night. Deer make a sound that seems to not be from this world. You can hear a lot of different sounds in the forest. I've never really see badgers, wild boars and foxes, but they are around. They just don't want me to see them.
Sometimes we find our chicken's eggs in weird places. I love it when that happens. I wish I could pretend it's magic. But it's just ferrets. I still wonder how they transport them so professionally.
I don't blame people from the olden days, for being supersticious and believe in ghosts and all of that. Without the full moon it's pitch black in the forest. For human eyes at least.
I want to be a fox, just for one full moon night and stroll through the forest. Just to see what's going on in there. A night were all the hunters are asleep though.

Irene Solà's novel When I Sing, Mountains Dance, translated from Catalan by Mara Faye Lethem, is an absolutely wonderful story of a small village in the Pyrenees. It all begins when poet and farmer Domènec is struck by lightning high up on a ridge. From there, a story unspools. His is not the last death that will haunt this family. As his two children, Mia and Hilari, grow up under the tough care of mother Siró, who never wanted this life in the country, never planned to be a single mother on a farm.
Everyone and everything speaks to us to tell this story. Siró, her children, their neighbors, narrate—but so do the black chanterelles, a roe-buck, the land's crust, dog Lluna. And don't forget the ghosts that haunt these peaks, starting with the four witches who have laughed on these rocks since they were hanged in the 17th century. All of these monologues come together to paint a rich watercolor of dripping, bleeding color, all steep ridges and remote forest, wide-open landscapes and merry festival and finding connection where we can. It's a beautiful novel about loss, grief, and connection, and the experimental narratives all pay off. This was one of my most anticipated reads of the year, and it delivered: I devoured it in one long, luscious sitting.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. When I Sing, Mountains Dance is out March 15 from Graywolf Press.

what  I know
chanterelle eruption just
under the leaf cover
damp, ghost pipe demarcation and I’m
haunted, too,
singing soft to drown the bodies on the
back of my hand, their
faces, mine
a mask with eyes I form as kindly as I can.
I fade. I know.
