During their final class of the semester, Ghetto Film School NY Fellows received a special treat: a visit from the one and only Sebastian Stan!
Sebastian spoke with students about his illustrious career, shared strategies for collaborating with actors onset, and provided individual feedback on Fellows’ rough cuts for their latest films.
We so appreciate his time, attention, and incredibly insightful answers. Thank you, Sebastian, and we look forward to hosting you again!

rafaelcasal | Got to listen and gives notes on scripts at the @ghettofilmschool a few weeks ago, alongside some creatives I deeply respect - @carmencubacasts @beherelater @kenyabarris. All in prep for these young filmmakers to head to Latin America to make their short films.
I often miss teaching, miss working in academic/workshop spaces where we talk about the WHY of story, the mechanics of great writing, the love of the edit, and de-mystifying of process. Where I grew up, we didn’t feel invited to the main stages of storytelling, and that went double or triple if you were a person of color, immigrant, etc. So to see young folks trying to tell big stories in their own voices is magical, especially when they are big ideas, genre pieces, rooted in their perspective on the world.
The biggest thing missing from the entertainment business is artistic mentorship - a passing of knowledge, a sharing of collective intellectual and emotional resource. Writing is not some automat-able straight line, it is the expression of the human condition, in discovery. It is both your wisdom and your blindspots exposed, and an expression of not only you, but the community of artists that helped you (and trust, it takes a village to make one person look like a genius.) That is why spaces like this are so valuable to the culture.
Thanks for having me, and letting me put on my development hat for a day on your beautiful scripts.
Do you guys have a link? I just wanna know if I remember seeing this / you do https://www.facebook.com/ghettofilmschool/posts/our-mcm-is-sebastian-stan-who-visited-our-ny-fellows-and-shared-on-his-journey-a/2628435783851671/
But these events aren't the same as the gala, to me they're closer to his recent visit
So my question now is.. are these the same events just in different places, or are they similar events organised by completely different people/association? The second one i think (?) so maybe we really can’t predict his presence 🤔
Our mcm is @imsebastianstan, who shared with our NY Fellows the story of his journey as an actor and gave students advice on how to stay true to your voice and art!
I had the opportunity to guest lecture about animation and character development at The Ghetto Film School today. These kids are SMART! Future Film Makers! Had such a blast hearing about their films and helping to strengthen their films. Thanks for the opportunity to be involved @traciel and @leandrocastelao @ghettofilmschool #characterdesign #filmmaking #futurecreators #ghettofilmschool

imsebastianstan Thank you @ghettofilmschool for having me come visit this past weekend. I was truly blown away by the dedication and clear passion in that room. I’m excited to see where you’ll go, the stories you’ll tell, and how you’ll inspire the world! As I’ve said, no matter what, stay true to you, your voice is unique to you and you alone so protect it, nourish it and honor it and know the world is ready for you. One day, I’ll be begging YOU for a job! 😎👊🏻Ghetto Film School (GFS) is an award-winning nonprofit founded in 2000 to educate, develop and celebrate the next generation of great American storytellers. GFS equips students for top universities and careers in the creative industries through two tracks: an introductory education program for high school students and early-career support for alumni and young professionals. Applications are now open for all high schoolers in LA and NYC for the Fellows Program. #ghettofilmschool
