New Horror 2022 - Day 13
"The Nurse's Story" by Elizabeth Gaskell (1852)
"I would come, but cruel, wicked Hester holds me very tight."
Gothic af.
===
"The Boar's Head Beast" by George Wildman, Nicola Cuti, Wayne Howard (1975)
"I toyed with forces I couldn't control."
This has bits of Lovecraft but it’s mostly an adventure story, and that just reminds me that so much of the adventure stuff I loved as a kid is from the action subgenre of horror.
===
Def by Temptation dir. James Bond III (1990)
"Honey, I’ve given you something there’s no cure for."
This was an interesting contrast with Ganja & Hess. It lacks the redemptive element sewn throughout that movie, instead leaning into a Tales from the Cyptesque comedic cautionary tale, and a heavy dose of Christian moralism.

It appears James Lance has booked another gig. And it's a reunion to boot.
He is back under the guiding arm of the Danish wildman (lovingly) Nicolas Winding Refn who directed him in BRONSON
for Refn's adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five novels for the BBC.
Lance will play Quentin. Who is Quentin in the books?
"Uncle Quentin is George's father, and a world-famous scientist, who is kidnapped or held hostage in several of the children's adventures. He possesses a quick temper and has little tolerance for the children on school holidays, but is nevertheless a loving and caring husband, father and uncle, and is extremely proud of his daughter. He is also inclined to be very absent-minded, as he finds it hard to switch off from his work and readjust to everyday life. Despite his fame as a scientist, his work does not earn him much money. In the first book of the series, it is established that he is brother to the father of Julian, Dick and Anne."
It is also the big time acting return of Jack Gleeson of GAME OF THRONES infamy.
Joffrey, you rancid heaux.
I have to say, I sat out Refn's latest series COPENHAGEN COWBOY, but I will definitely watch it. But as I watched HBO's THE IDOL starring Lily Rose Depp and Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye (which I actually enjoyed) I felt it would be so much better if Refn wrote and directed it because it had strains of Refns THE NEON DEMON and TOO OLD TO DIE YOUNG running through it. But if Refn made it he likely would not have cast Eli Roth and Roth was just too much fun in that so maybe it worked out for the best.
