While I understand the goal with gender-inclusive/'gender expansive'/unisex adult clothing patterns, I kinda hate them. Like. That's just now how human bodies are. One-size-fits all just doesn't!
A garment that is designed to fit well on a body without breasts will, by definition, fit like shit on me, no matter how boxy/oversized the style lines are! A garment designed to fit someone with by body (or the closest common approximation of my body, with like 3" less breast full bust circumference) will, by its very nature, fit very badly on someone flat-chested. See also, shit like shoulder width, and waist/hip raios, and I'm sure various other aspects.
Like, I get that there's a lot of baggage surrounding body shape and social expectations of gender! But you can't get around that baggage by pretending that various physical differences just don't exist!
If I want to dress more masc, the shape of my body does not change. The fit adjustments that I need to make don't change. I would in fact need to make additional tweaks and adjustments to get a traditionally masculine silhouette. And while it would be interesting and valuable to have guidelines on how to do that, unisex pattern designs move the whole process back in the opposite direction.

Even when she's fending off hunger pangs, Helena's got a weak spot for the sexy brash alternative girls (bonus points if they're named Lilith).

Chapter 4: The Art of Dark Meditation
Helena, thinking: You are not hungry. You are not hungry. You are not h-
[stomach grumbles loudly]
I guess it's back to the drawing board.
-
Julia: Whoa. Where ya off to looking like that?
Helena: Ugh, do I look ridiculous? Is my makeup awful?
Julia: No, you actually kinda look like a million bucks. No more migraine?
Helena: It's under control for now.
Julia: Wait! You didn't answer my question.
Helena: Maybe because it's none of your business. Keep out of trouble, kiddo, and don't stay up past your bedtime.
Julia: But-
Helena: Don't make me call a babysitter.
-
Darling: Helena! You managed to track me down. Guess I owe you that free drink now, huh?
Helena: Oh, I really don't need-
Lilith (Pleasant): One more round, Dar?
Darling: Another round of EAPAs coming up! I'll make you the cocktail of your dreams once I'm finished here, H.
Helena: [stealing discreet glances] No worries. I can wait.
[indistinct conversation]
Darling: Helena, you've barely even touched it! Are my mixology skills that hopeless? I've been practicing!
Helena: Sorry. It's great. I'm just a little... distracted.
Darling: [chuckles] Yeah, that's obvious.
Helena: Who is she? I thought I knew everyone in this place.
Darling: She's new in town, I think. Looks like a tough nut to crack but seems nice enough. Good tipper at least. God, what is her name? I think it's...
Lilith: [faintly overheard] Well, I should pack it in or I'll hate myself in the morning.
Helena: Thanks for the drink, but I've got to go.
Darling: What's with you and the hasty exits these days? [sighs resignedly] Well, good luck chasing down your new lady.

doing Sam's outfits is slightly harder than expected because I'm fighting the urge to just put him in cute outfits while I'm trying to draw what I think he would Actually wear. not just what he'd slay in, but what he would actually own and wear under the given circumstances.
like I keep picturing him in mock/turtlenecks for work, classy but comfortable, and I just Feel like he wouldn't actually wear an off the shoulder top with a scarf as a shawl and a choker to stand in for the mockneck vibe, even though it would Slay. I feel like he'd think that's too Scandalous for work, at least since he hasn't worked there that long, it's not time to get Wild and start showing Shoulder yet.
I also don't think he'd own a gorgeous fitted dress with gold chains and a slew of gold jewelry. Not because he would never want to wear it but because He Doesn't Make That Kinda Money.
I do think he'd own a silly little onesie tho. As a treat.

If I was going to go back in time to disrupt history with a single technology the temptation would be incredible to make it knitting.
Like I don't know how much that would really do to alleviate human suffering en masse so it's not the heroic option like idk an understanding of germ theory on the level necessary to improve child mortality in the long term? But it would be so cool to see what happened.
Because knitting in the form we know it is basically a 20th century invention.
I hate that! It doesn't seem right at all, huh?? Knitting is over 1000 years old, that's all we know we don't have the artifacts to say more precisely than that, but it spent most of that time being pretty exclusively a means of making socks, and not a viral sensation of a sock method, either. The purl stitch was figured out and then forgotten again.
That's nothing. That's like 0 time, in the history of string.
And then, almost every knitting technique of any serious elaboration, all the complicated stitches and the cable knits and all that: less than 150 years old. Cannot believe this. Wild. What is humanity.
Anyway I just want to see what would happen if you went back to before the proliferation of the loom and taught knitting to a bunch of different communities across the mesolithic world. Some of them would keep it up, if you seeded it widely.
Knitting is way more nomadism-friendly than weaving, so at the very least the early proliferation of knit fabrics would alter the economic balance of pastoral and agricultural communities. i feel like it would also have interesting impacts on the fishing net.

I still dont understand how to comfortably wear pants when my stomach is wider than my hips/where midrise pants typically fall. Jeans that aren't uncomfortably tight either fall down while I walk, or somehow pull my underwear down off my ass while the pants stay in the same place. Any belt or waist sturdy enough to hold pants up while im walking make everything DEEPLY uncomfortable whenever I sit. Being upright is just constantly in a cycle of hiking my pants up to my belly button and then they slowly slide down over the next 30 minutes. Is there a fucking trick to this??? Am i just buying the wrong pants???

Ik Ik we've already established that fast fashion has decreased the quality of clothing in every way imaginable from the fabric itself to the cut and construction of garments
But also we really don't have outfits with banging decorative embroidery on them anymore and that sucks

I was recently alerted to the presence of fellow fibre nerds in this basementopia?! Yay!
Ive been working on this top for four years (and before that the yarn was something else). It’s laceweight therefore slow af, but I really like the fabric so ehhh worth it. Yarn is old Habu A-1 Tsumugi Silk and the pattern began as a Scarletta Mini but I have modified it to have raglan shoulders, and I did a provisional cast-on so I can use up all remaining yarn for small sleeves.

I did not keep up with the figure drawing for four weeks XD two weeks was my limit but I'm still happy I did it for that long.
My new project is sewing a massive soft and warm hoodie to get me through the cold months (I hate being cold 😭).
I can only ever find stuff made of fleece and I have a massive issue with that type of texture, it drives me up the wall, so I guess it's a good excuse to learn to use my mom's sewing machine!
