Back in the dungeon trying to get to that 250lb clean. Worked up to 240x6 squat, 85% of max clean pulls, and light clean technique. Someday I would like to post squat reps in the 300lb range. Right now my 1rm is somewhere in the 300's. Before I started strength training it was right at 300. Last cycle of 5-3-1 had me hitting reps at 280. Almost 6 months ago I set a goal of hitting a 250lb clean by the end of 2015. First month in I made some major gains. Clean went from 180 to 220 which is what I hit in the attached video. While the progress was great it was too much too fast. I was training crossfit 5 days a week and added strength training 5 - 7 days a week. Yup, jumped in with both feet. Obviously that was not smart. Ended up hurting my back. Luckily it was just a bad muscle pull. That injury had me out of Crossfit for a month and no serious lifting for 2 months. Over the last few months I have been steadily working strength training back into my routine. Now that I'm a little wiser I want to get back after that goal of 250. Starting today I will be using a 12 week program from Catalyst Athletics (CA) and 5-3-1 to reach it. The program from CA has the same lifts as 5-3-1. 5-3-1 is working really well for me so I will do 5-3-1 when the CA program calls for front or back squats or dead lifts. The good thing is both programs are fairly low intensity. Basically I will be 3 days on 1 day off. Strength training in the AM and Crossfit in the PM. Why 250? I'm 5'5 165lbs. Figured a little over 2x body weight was an obtainable goal. Hoping I have enough time to reach my goal. All this will be on top of a full-time job, Crossfit, some great friends, 3 crazy kids (4th will be here end of December), two nutty dogs, and a cat. Should be interesting!!
