I’ve been rereading the current anime arc in the manga, and finally got to The Apology™️, and I wondered what words Katsuki used before translation.
Disclaimer: I’m sure others must have posted about this before but I couldn’t recall reading it myself. I do remember there was a lot of talk about the way he used “gomen” as the Japanese fandom were saying how cute and childlike it sounded, so I thought I’d see if there was anything else interesting there.
Oh, my sweet sweet baby boy…
So, just before he says ‘Sorry for everything’ (ima made gomen), he says:
言ってどうにかなるもんじゃねェけど
本音だ
出久
“Itte dōnika naru mon ja nē kedo… Honne da…Izuku”
Which in the English translation, gave us:
And “speak my truth” is lovely and all, but the word from the original that stuck out for me was ‘honne’.
I’m not sure how familiar most people are with honne–tatemae (I only know about it because I go way way too in-depth when researching for my fics lol), but it’s a concept that every Japanese person is deeply aware of, and underpins much of their society.
Here’s the Wikipedia intro:
Ohhh, that is some extra juicy context for Kacchan’s speech. Essentially, he is saying that everything up until now has been his tatemae, a public façade to protect his own position (strong, powerful hero etc), but that he can’t keep that up and he wants Izuku to see his honne, his true, private self.
Excuse me while I melt from the cuteness.
But WAIT! There’s more!
How much do you know about second-person pronouns in Japanese? (Nope, this isn’t about ‘kare’ again this time hehe).
You’ve probably noticed in the anime that Kacchan says “Temee” a lot, and you may have also noticed that it tends to get translated as cursing. So it actually just means ‘you,’ but like a really rude way of saying it, such that the only way of reflecting that in English is to replace ‘you’ with something like Bastard or Asshole.

This and the below are from a very excellent article about second-person pronouns and how they are used for context and drama in anime specifically. I’d recommend reading it as the context is really interesting!
So although pronouns aren’t actually commonly used or necessary in much spoken Japanese, when they are used, it’s a deliberate way to tell you about the relationship dynamic between two characters.
But why, you may ask, am I talking about pronouns again?!
Because, dear friends, throughout the first half of his speech, Kacchan uses ‘temee’ as usual to describe his past with Izuku. I’ve highlighted it below, and pls also note the shaky speech bubble showing his nerves during the ‘honne’ section. 🥺
HOWEVER, straight after he says he wants Izuku to see his Honne, Katsuki switches pronouns from ‘Temee’ (v rude), to ‘Omae’ (very casual/familiar). Below is the page after the apology.
Considering we now know pronouns are not necessary to convey meaning, that’s a hell of a lot of omaes on one page!! Boy cannot get enough of saying it.
If you want more about the different pronouns, see below for a helpful table of common uses for both. And please indulge my shippy heart for highlighting the second usage (but, like ‘kare’, you never know)…
Katsuki is showing Izuku immediately and repeatedly that this is who he wants to be to him and how he wants the world to see them. His honne, his inner desire, is to be close to Izuku, to treat him as an equal.
He’s not just saying sorry, he’s showing that—at least from his perspective—things are going to be different from now on. But, like, also, that this was how he felt about him in private the whole time?! GAHHHH.
So there you go, the apology that was already a massive turning point in their story/relationship was actually even deeper and more beautiful than we all thought. Yet again, Japanese conveys nuance and intention far beyond what can be translated. 😭💕

which of the biker au boys if most likely so settle any club disputes in the ring? Who’s training who, who is shadow boxing in the corner, and who is the one to watch out for if any of the other club members get them in the ring?
Also, just like general punk biker Soap? Gahhhh that gives me brainrot in the best way
Konig probably. Going by Konig’s voice lines, I think he’s characterized as a little sadistic, and the table would put that to use.
Konig is the SGT at Arms, so he’s generally used for disciplinary measures (when needed) as it is, but the ring is especially his domain. Whoever is stupid enough to go opposite him…well..that’s their fault.
Ghost is probably the one who trains everyone, keeps them sharp. I think they all can handle themselves pretty well, but I’m sure he stays on top of that for every one. Besides Konig, I think he’s the most brutal, he just has more restraint. As VP (and as just Simon) he makes it his personal mission to see that every one of his guys gets home, so he needs them to be on their toes.
Shadow boxing would probably be Gaz. I see him as the least likely to enter the ring (though he 100% has, every member has), but the most into sharpening his hand-to-hand skills. He’s probably more concerned about making sure he’s ready when somebody tests him, than blowing off steam. Though if he gets mad enough, he’s not above it.
The one to watch out for is Konig, and then I would say Ghost, but I think Price is the one most people get shocked by.
They either assume things because of his age (which isn’t old but..), or they think he’s gotten more comfortable with a gun than with his hands. He was fighting in pubs before he should’ve legally been in them, he’s not one to sleep on.
Anytime his boys get out of line, he's taking them to the ring for the equivalent of an adult spanking. Not a fun time being on his shit list.
He also enjoys it way more than he lets on, almost as much as Konig and Ghost.

Captain John Price
It's hell waiting to see if you're still alive. Pacing the halls, unable to think straight and far too aggressive with anyone that even asks if he's doing alright. Price doesn't handle your life being on the line very well.
He's been waiting for correspondence from you. Hours feel like weeks. You're supposed to come back to him. He hasn't bothered to change out of his gear, not when he's posted by the door hoping you'll walk through it.
When you do? He feels the world roll from his shoulders. He holds you tight. He's not emotional in the sense of crying, I don't think any of them really would, but he does that thing where he like, chastises you for taking so long to get back to him.
He checks you over, quickly, just to make sure you don't have any life threatening wounds. You're okay, rough, but generally okay. He can't let you go, won't let you go.
Kyle "Gaz" Garrick
A bit more neurotic when making sure you're alright. He almost gets lost in his head when waiting for you with bated breath. The moment things start to go wrong for you, he wants to figure out plans to help and get you out. Kyle isn't so clouded by his emotions that his judgment goes to hell but he's not the best at decision making either.
Price will tell him to sit down, might argue with him just a bit, but overall, Kyle listens to Price. Price knows you'll handle yourself, and even though the situation it awful, you'll be just fine. You're slippery and intelligent. And they're working on helping you.
Kyle, naturally, is the first to actually find you in the heat of it all. Slides up beside you, thankful he's at your side while the two of you are pinned for a moment or so and all he can think of is protecting you. You look a little worse for wear, but he knows it's nothing too bad physically.
You'll both make it. Eventually, after managing a tricky escape, he holds you. He's much more affectionate and spends more than enough time saying how much he loves you but it's for good reason. He can't bear the thought of actually losing you.
Johnny "Soap" MacTavish
Instantly wants to come get you. Hearing you've been captured makes him lose most of his rational thought. He has to be held back from just storming in. And it's not that Johnny is a bad strategist, he just really can't stand the thought of something bad happening to you when he could have been doing something rather than sitting around!
He eventually reels himself in and gets the others to come up with a plan, still working quicker than what's considered sane after getting confirmation you're 'okay.'
Coming to get you makes him feel everything all at once. He's focused on being disciplined and deadly accurate. He won't play around with your life.
Seeing you is the biggest relief. He holds you so tight, squeezes you and doesn't let you go. He's so sweet in making sure you're alright without smothering you in the same way others might.
Simon "Ghost" Riley
Quite clinical! He tends to care so deeply about other people it hurts. Doesn't know when to reel in his own empathy despite hiding it so well. You hold his entire heart, and if anything happens to you, it'll break. To protect himself, but more importantly you, he needs to keep you safe.
He's got plans about everything brewing in his head. I think Ghost likes to think of every possible route in case things go wrong, and unfortunately that means he was also expecting something like this. He's on it, everyone else is on it.
You're... he's afraid you won't make it through the night once he finally gets you in his arms. He sees the loss of his loved ones flash in his eyes as he holds you when you make it out of surgery to recover. Squeezes your hand, rests near you and gives you space while also clinging so tightly to you. He knows he won't and can't live without you.
You eventually fall deeper into sleep. He watches. His eyes are stuck on you, can't look anywhere else. Won't look anywhere else. There's still a chance you won't make it. He hates that his nightmare might finally become true.

I decided to present him in a softer light as I feel there are many other ideas where he can be very yandere, and this request is so cute, fluffy and adorable, I couldn’t present him as yandere. Y/n was one of the most powerful yokais in Japan, more precisely a tenko. As a kitsune, she was able to change her form, which was making her job much easier. Y/n loved helping humans, but she also loved messing with them, as their reactions were extremely amusing and fun to watch. However she had only one trait that she didn't like; she was getting bored of her prays very soon. No man was able to hold her attention for a long period of time. That was until she came across a certain long-haired traveler, who settled near the small village shrine Y/n was residing in. The mysterious man instantly grabbed her attention, as he was handsome and full of certain interesting energy that pulled Y/n to him.
She would follow his every track with utmost attention, trying to analyse his behaviour. From what she could tell, this man did not like talking much and preferred spending time alone. This of course, made the kitsune deity more interested in him and she finally decided to approach him in her animal form. She was sure her beautiful fur and movements would grab the attention of the man.
And she was right!
The man instantly noticed, at that time unbeknownst to him, the powerful deity who was in the form of an animal.
“A kitsune..?” he asked himself, looking at the animal. His sharingan was glowing while he looked at the creature, feeling some sort of uneasiness. Indra was never one to love animals. He never paid them any attention as he had other serious issues to deal with, especially now that he left his home and was wandering around. However, he couldn't help but be mesmerized by the cute animal that was not making its way to him.
“You want to eat, little one? I don't have any food to give to you..” he spoke softly, something which he didn't know he could do after the terrible betrayal and heartbreak he had faced. Y/n, hearing his soft voice, was now more intrigued by him. She walked to him and sat down next to him, her chin laying on his leg.
“You are a cute one…”he said, chuckling. He could not help but feel like he wanted to pet the cute animal laying on his leg. The only animal he petted as a child was his shiba dog, and only him. He kept looking at the fox, seeing the beautiful sunset reflecting in its gray eyes.
Y/n felt his hesitancy and had to initiate the petting herself. She got up, softly jumped on his lap and started nuzzling against his chest. This of course took Indra off the guard, but he did not protest. After all, the fox was such a cute one he had to give her some pets and affection. Y/n, having done this for centuries, knew that no human can say no to her cute charms, and when her new prey started to pet her, she had a victorious look on her face.
After that point on, Y/n would visit Indra every day, to keep him company, to analyse his behaviour and of course to sometimes help him by bringing fruits to him from the nearby shrine. The man was not against her company, as he preferred hers to other humans. As the kitsune’s visits started to increase, Indra always carried an extra piece of clothing with him, to wrap it around the animal at nights to keep her warm. Y/n enjoyed his company more than she imagined, which led to spending more time with him. She was always with him, following him wherever he was going.
During one of her regular followings, which was more like stalking now, Indra and her went to a small cave. The inside was full of shiny beautiful crystals, which were reflecting the small lights on the water surface.
“You can;t stay here little one. Go away. I need to take a bath, okay?” he said calmly while loosening his black belt of his white kimono. Y/n saw many men and women naked, she didn't care about others, but for some reason she was feeling embarrassed to see that man’s body. And since she was in her animal form, she had the opportunity to run as he instructed and which she did.
-After few days-
Y/n could not bring herself to meet him after their last meeting. It was a weird and unexplainable feeling for her, SHe would walk by herself in her human form, watching him from afar, but not go close to him. At first she wanted to play with that man a little bit, but she never thought that she would be the one to be all shy and embarrassed around him.
“I should really cut contact with him. He seems to be better at my own game..”she said to herself, sighing as she casted another look at him. There he was, sitting again next to the tree she first approached him. She chuckled at how cute he was for a human, but soon she saw something unexpected,
The man took the extra piece of clothing he was carrying with him for her, and put it on his chest.
Y/n felt flustered, her heart beating faster now.
Oh how cute was he…
Without second thought she transformed back into her kitsune form, and ran down to him. He was missing her as much as she was. After all those twp got close together in the span of little time. Her small fox legs carried her and soon she was next to him, her mysterious ex-prey. He was leaning on the tree, his eyes closed and one hand on the piece of clothing. Y/n slowly jumped to his lap, moved the piece of clothing and rested her head on his shoulder.
“Hmmm..~ Seems my small kitsune is back…” he mumbled, his hand moving to her fur. Y/n felt in peace in his hands, and without making another movement, she slowly fell asleep. Little did she knew…the mysterious man was aware of her real face and metamorphosis abilities long ago~

obsessed with every time shostakovich writes for voice. his vocal works don’t get as much spotlight as the instrumental ones but godddd
that part in symphony 13 where the soloist’s voice seems to break when he sings “я каждый здесь расстрелянный ребёнок” (I am every child shot dead here) gives me chills every time, and is probably the most powerful part of the entire symphony. the tragedy and rage of the piece is transcending the text and music, compelling even the performer’s voice to waver.
the part in lady macbeth where katerina and sergei are in prison and katerina expresses her devotion to sergei- the man she has no choice but to convince herself to love- as he cheats with sonyetka . absolutely haunting . and then when shostakovich revisits lady macbeth and quotes it in the 8th quartet in 1960, this context is so much more heartbreaking when you consider the themes of betrayal in the opera and the circumstances under which shostakovich wrote the 8th quartet.
you have cycles like songs from jewish folk poetry, the spanish songs, six romances on verses by english poets, the michelangelo and tsvetaeva cycles, etc. where a whole other dimension is added to these texts with the music. you can almost see the scenarios described in the texts played out in your mind, just by hearing them sung and accompanied. the harmonies in “songs from jewish folk poetry” especially stick in my mind, along with the desperation in “the abandoned father” («Цирелэ, дочка!»)
and then there’s the antiformalist rayok and “preface on a complete collection of my works.” gahhhh, shostakovich is so good at satirical comedy. there is so much to these works to dissect, and they’re just so fun. and he’s a talented lyricist, too; his comedic works can be surprisingly personal and vulnerable.
even with socialist realist works he likely wrote out of desperation, like “song of the forests” (a work he allegedly regretted writing according to galina ustvolskaya), there’s no cut corners. he takes his art seriously, even when it exhausted him (as he said himself on the film scores of the 40s). there’s so much in his vocal pieces to examine and they’re some of his most fascinating works imo.

unironically i started playing honkai seventeen days ago just for aventurine and I think I'm physically ill for this man. like gahhhh hes so silly. i have nearly 80 pulls thjat ive spent literally all my time grinding for, and I'm at 60 pity and I will literally kill someone if I lose the 50/50 .90% of gamblers quit before they hit jackpot and similarly 90% of Honkai Star Rail players quit before they win their 50/50. 90% of Honkai Star Rail players quit before they get E6 Aventurine. I need him so bad. Like I wouldn't be mad if I lost the 50/50 to like, Clara or something because I already have her from standard banner and I love her a lot, but if it were to literally anyone else I'd just start mauling people yk. I don't even know what that one kid's name is but he has blonde hair and swords and he's from the Xianzhou Luofu (not that far in the plotline, havent met him yet) but if I lose my 50/50 to that kid I might just die.
Listen I'm not his number one fan, I wouldn't daer to insinuate that I even am, I don't even want to like, fight people for that title. I just really like him and I wanted to thank you for all the Aventurine content that you've been churning out. I'm not sending this on main because I don't want to be clowned on but yeah this is. Also I like Dr. Ratio more honestly. I like them both equally but Aventurine isn't out yet so the only thing I'm staring at is Ratio. Reading that previous anons ask, I’m SOO GLAD that people are finding your fics!!! I mean when i first saw the amount of notes you had on your gamemakers apprentice I was SHOCKED, I don’t mean to insult u when I say this but you are SEVERELY underrated. Like HOW is the amount of notes you have sooo low (this is the part which I don’t mean to upset you by) it must be an issue with tumblr because every time I see you post a new chapter I reblog and add like a million tags. It can’t be because of your story, I refuse to believe that cause… the chapters are long, Coriolanus is well written and accurate, reader has an enjoyable personality and that makes you like her, the story is interesting and has good pacing, im pretty sure that you said English isn’t your first language yet the grammar and punctuation is perfect. Like it’s not because of the quality of your story I genuinely believe that tumblr isn’t showing your fic on ppls fyp’s cause I’ve seen other writers get 3x more notes compared to you yet yours is better, like genuinely one of the top dark!coryo writers on here. Honestly I sometimes get annoyed when I see the amount of notes you have on your chapters cause you deserve it a lot more than some people on here, I can tell you try hard and enjoy writing and always respond to comments in the sweetest way possible

second, i haven’t watched sorry for your loss yet… i’ve been meaning to!! …but i just really don’t do well with grief related shows even though i know it might help me to grow and move past it to learn and see how others cope… but anyway! i’ve gone into this blind pretty much, only knowing that yeah, leigh’s husband passes and there’s something she didn’t know… and i’m not a fan of cheaters and such but something about reading how… selfish.. these characters can be… flawed characters. it just makes it sweeter to read somehow. — especially that little part in part 6(?) where jules mentions how… difficult leigh can be at times since the whole thing.. like gahhhh my brain is like�� gnawing and chewing on how… just real you make these characters!!! the emotions you portray through leigh as well!!! like…ahhh!!! i really don’t know what to say it just makes me tug on my hair in a good way… speechless is what you’ve made me! or! or!! oh my god!!! when the reader doesn’t want leigh to hurt any more than she already is and leigh just.. takes the pain and walks with it??? because she’s… stronger than this? because she’s bitter? feels like she has to get back at matt?? and ugh… idkidk really! (i got all that from the anger and the line “i can handle pain just fine.”) like… i’m just. i’m chewing on this like a piece of gum that i don’t wanna spit out. oh!!! and… when she’s mad at… the things that matter… the little things like. how intimate it is for matt to just be there… after that first date… also! i’m a hater!! i’m a lover of the haters (jules!!!) and a hater of the lovers!! meaning, danny!!! i love that you’ve made me hate his character. after seeing how selfish he really is with leigh and.. how much of a tough spot the reader is in…
ok this is getting too long, i apologize. i jus really loved the pacing of the story, the characterizations and everything else… i just love it a lot and i can’t stop thinking about it after every update… because of all the cliffhangers!! anyway. i hope you know your words are loved, author. thank you!!

re: watching Sorry for your loss - honestly, it's not required for you to have seen the show, just that you know the gist of it (Leigh being a young widow). Nothing really goes on--it just paints the process of grief in ordinary life. So you really don't have to see it. Besides, I don't even follow its timeline and relationships to a T.
re: your thoughts on the story- i find myself nodding along the stuff you picked out from the last 6 chapters. Also, I am a hater too (lol), I'm just not very vocal about the things I hate because one of lizzie's character once said: "You think it's cool to hate things. And it's not. It's boring. Talk about what you love and keep quiet about what you don't." But I'm a huge hater. I think we all secretly are.
I think hating Danny is easy in this fic, but I keep trying to find something in him that's relatable, something that just doesn't make him an antagonist. I think it's fair to think that he's also being used by Leigh, being treated unfairly by Leigh. I don't think I really hate Danny here as much as you guys do. I have done awful things when I was younger out of the selfishness of satisfying my own desires. But I'll talk about that some other time and if anyone will ask :P
