The Cat and the Beast
Tumblr media
My newst art and my first painting, i did inspired on my cat (Jhully). People had alot of different interpretations of this art but, i did it inspired in the belief that cats can protect humans from problems, mostly spirutal problems that is represented by the monster behind my kitty. The third eye mean the way cats look to everthing and can see more then we can see (the spiritual things).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know if it looks like she's angry but she is, because she's actually fighting with this beast that as you can see on his face have some scars. I'm very pround of this painting mainly because it was the first time that i did it, but at same i was anxious to think that if i post it people would think bad things about me because i used my cat as the model and the inspiration of this painting, i'm just showing it right now because one of my friends said to me to do it, so i did it, and i hope people gonna like it as much as me.

The Nature of Elwing
For Day 2 of @tolkienofcolourweek, where I continue to Māori-fy Tolkien. (I am objectively correct.)
Elwing as a gull is cool and Elwing as an albatross is cooler, but the bird that most closely matches what I imagined upon first reading the silm is this one:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image description: four photos of a white bird with long legs and a long neck.]
This is a kōtuku, and it's incredibly sacred to my people. It's also known as the white heron. It lives in many countries, but in Aotearoa the population is very small - only about 200.
Kōtuku are beautiful and graceful creatures. They're such a pure white that in sunlight they seem to be a source of light themselves, glowing and radiant.
We hold them in high esteem because of both their beauty and rarity. There's a Māori saying, he kōtuku rerenga tahi, which means the kōtuku flies once. It's a reference to the fact that a kōtuku in flight is so rare that you only see it once in your life, but it's also used to describe something extremely beautiful/esteemed and extremely rare.
Kōtuku are beings from the spirit world. They exist in-between. An old Ngāti Pikiao funeral lament ends to kōtuku to tapui, e tama e (the kōtuku is now thy sole companion, oh my son). I was told once that they accompany our spirits after death when we travel to the northernmost cliffs of Aotearoa (Te Rerenga Wairua, the Leaping Place of Spirits) to jump from the cliffs to the sea and journey to Hawaiki.
Elwing as a bird that dwells between this world and the spirit world. Elwing as the bird that rerenga tahi, which means flies once but also means leaps [from a high place] once. Elwing, grand-daughter of Luthien, as the most beautiful and rare of birds, the kind that you only see once in a lifetime.
Bonus: Elwing and her twin chicks.
Tumblr media
[Image: a kōtuku standing over a nest with two fluffy chicks inside. The adult kōtuku is beautiful and the chicks look like they've been dragged through a hedge backwards.]
(Btw comments and questions are welcome but please don't be weird in the notes - like I said, this bird is sacred.)

Talking to @fanaticartisan about Merchant and plague doctors gave me an idea for plague doctor!Merchant :3
I thought about giving him avian features such as bird-like hands/arms and feathers coming out of skin but idk, I just like to creature-fy plague doctors ^^'

Hhhhh I know that sea creechurs and birbs are completely different, but I love seeing the instincts you give the merfolk in your Pokemon Mer AU.
The need to protect, the drive to hunt, the emphasis on community (staying in a pack or pod), and all that. It's so much fun to see whenever a writer includes stuff like that in their works.
As for the birbs I mentioned, I keep chickens, and they are. very fascinating little organisms. I've seen people with wing aus incorporate things like dust bathing and brooding and even feather-plucking and molting, and it's just... I've observed those things (except for feather-plucking, which doesn't seem to be common in chooks as it is in birds like cockatoos and parrots) and it's so cool to see in other fics.
And you! The way you put in things like grouping together and teaching the young ones how to hunt is so cool! Again, the two groups of critters I'm talking about are very, very different, but it's really cool to see how many creatures share instincts like these, and then to see it applied to people!
Your au is just. Very brainrot. It rots my brain every couple of months and I can't stop thinking about it, and it makes me want to critterfy characters myself.
Also, I found you for the Mer stuff, but I really like your OCs, too! They're really cool, please feed Hayday, I'm begging you, he's so skinny and stressed I want to give him a meal. :<
This is... very rambly, sorry (I should be asleep, but no). But! I hope that you have a good, blessed day, and a good night's rest!
With my mer stuff its kinda funny, I made the 'basis' for them years and years ago for a different fandom, and I actually lessened the 'critter-fication' of them lmao (or its there I just havent talked about them)
But! It might be the neurodivergent part of my brain, it may be the dormant furry in me, but I love critter-fying things. It's so fun. Bc they're not human, they'd have their own quirks and society and culture! And thats fun to think about!
Thank you for this ask, it was so nice to read and reread ;w;

Teàrlach stood before the prison bars, staring down at Carmichael with his trademark sneer. He had clearly lost weight during his imprisonment, cheeks somewhat gaunt.
"Humans are such fragile creatures." Teàrlach mused, bending to push a tray of stale bread with a goblet of water under the bars. "Go on then, perform your little ritual, minister. It amuses me so." Carmichael had been sitting on the floor with his legs crossed, and he scooted himself closer to take the tray. "Many thanks!" He set it on his lap, and closing his eyes with raised hands he said, "Fy nhad yn y nefoedd, bless this food so graciously given by my captors, strengthen my lovely Isibéal, and bring your divine justice to Dál Riata. Amen."
Teàrlach's fanged grin only widened, pressing his face closer to the bars, he jeered, "Much good your prayers are, holy man. Seems your god has forgotten you here. Yet you continue to bleat at the sky. Hilarious."
Carmichael had torn the loaf into small pieces, quietly listening to the revenant's words as he ate. He took a sip of water and replied, "Oh? What makes you think my prayers go unanswered?" Teàrlach stepped back, gesturing around the stone room. "If I'm not mistaken, you still appear to be imprisoned. Unless you have acquired a key from the heavens that slipped my notice."
"That's your first mistake, Mr. Teàrlach. You're under the impression my prayers are for escape. I don't remember requesting such a thing." Carmichael popped the final piece of bread into his mouth and grinned. "I believe my work here is not done."
Teàrlach's grin faded, his eyes narrowed as he stared down the minister. "Work? What work are you referring to? You've been wasting away in this cell for months now. You've accomplished nothing. And will continue to accomplish nothing. Your miniscule human mind clearly cannot handle prison." Carmichael cheerfully clapped his hands onto his knees and smiled. "I've been speaking to you, haven't I?"
The revenant's eyes blazed, his teeth bared. "You think you're getting to me? Your holy book will pierce my degenerate heart, we'll hold hands and sing songs with the other degenerates you've proselytized to? Is that what you're seeking?"
Carmichael rested his cheek in his hand, thinking a moment. "Well, hand holding isn't typical practice during worship—" he looked back up, grinning. "But, yes! I would be pleased if such a thing occurred!" Teàrlach waved him off. "I'm afraid I'd burst into flames the moment I entered your holy place. Filth such as I daren't revile your temple."
Carmichael's eyes almost glittered, and he leaned forward. "If we're measuring the weight of our transgressions, I'm afraid none would be able to enter; least of all myself." Teàrlach threw his head back and laughed scornfully at the minister. "My hands are stained with the blood of my Lady's enemies. When I wake, I curse whoever caused my damnable resurrection on this ball of mud. You claim to be equal in my misdeeds? I daresay, you have never batted a hand at a fly in your life."
Carmichael exhaled deeply, running his fingers along the hem of his trousers. "I assure you, Mr. Teàrlach, I am capable of this and worse. All have sinned, and fallen short. There is none who does good, apart from our savior." He looked solemn for a moment, before looking up and meeting Teàrlach's gaze. "Yet he shed his blood so we may be forgiven. If you yourself repent and believe, your sins may be washed clean."
The revenant's face contorted in confusion at first, then rage, after. "Have you been stricken deaf? The blood of thousands covers my hands! I have ripped babe from mother and dashed them to pieces! Villages have been leveled for my Lady's amusement. The stench of death follows like my own shadow!"
Carmichael swayed side to side, cheerfully singing, "Oh, precious is the flow, that makes me white as snow~!" Teàrlach grabbed the bars of the cell, shaking them and shouting, "Silence! I will heed no more of these falsehoods! You think honeyed words will grant your freedom? I am not so easily moved! Rot here and cry to your god, he will save neither of us." He swept out of the room, not before giving Carmichael another glance, his expression almost fearful.
The minister heaved a sigh, laying back onto the floor and leaning his legs against the wall. "Tomorrow is another day." He smiled and continued his song, which followed Teàrlach out of the jail and remained in his mind the rest of the night.
