you ever think about how fucked up it is that shen qingqiu's first mission out of sect was him subduing the skinner, a demon who targeted and replaced people no one would really miss?
very fun how the skinner ended up getting killed and destroyed by someone else who took the place of a person no one really missed

TMNT au were Mikey and Leo were raised by Shredder to be foot soldiers with Karai being manipulated by the Shredder, believing they have no one but themselves as family, and meeting Donnie and Raph, who are pals with Casey and April already helping them take down the foot solider to face off against Shredder. They cross paths with each other, which shapes how the story continues. Mikey starts to question Shredder, believing that the other side is who he should be with because he starts finding the way the foot handles things to be suspicious, so he goes on his own solo fights throughout this iteration, fighting Raph and Donnie every now and then, with Leo popping in to see assist and see if everything is okay. He also starts questioning his loyalty, but never brings it up since he believes in his father, Shredder, and sister Karai are innocent, so he and Mikey get into a fight, and Mikey chooses Raph and Donnie, which upsets Leo, who throughout the rest fights with Karai to try and get Mikey back on the shredder side. Thoughts?

Someone else has made Nona the ninth/Alecto and The Last Unicorn connections already but I just wanna put some quotes out here that really made me go into a fit of insanity thinking about them in connection with eachother
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something about a being that existed as an incorruptible thing being made human and corrupted that way. The vulnerability and lasting taint of being human and having been human. Also that whole section where the unicorn gets made human and her reaction (and Molly's reaction) is full terror. "What have you done" "I can feel this body dying all around me". What a terrible sin to put something so apart from everything, so immortal and inviolate, into the body of a human girl.
And the magic quote, really that's just from me thinking about how jod absolutley fucked up the whole having necromancy thing because of his tunnel vision about the trillionaires. He kept sacrificing other people's livers.

also lrb op's tags are like re-discovering all the things that Fuck Me Up about the founder of diabolism. about exactly how many of the characters run as mirrors to each other. nhs & jgy being some of the most blatantly stated. i've had conversations with people who think that nie mingjue would be proud of nie huaisang for falling jin guangyao but the whole things with nie mingjue is the idea that, even if his cultivation method Kills Him, he does Everything by the books. the nie clan in general is a righteous sect who do things honorably, who challenge men honorably, who slay beasts honorably, and who exorcise the lingering dead honorably. you have to assume nie mingjue was a man brought up with the idea of Never shaming his family name Drilled into him. backstabbing, literally or figuratively, is a Huge no. finding meng yao in the middle of having killed someone then lying through his teeth about it was the catalyst for absolving any semblance of an amicable relationship between the two of them.
nie mingjue would be furious that his little brother didn't take the high road and challenge jin guangyao head-on in a fair fight despite knowing that his sworn brother would've done everything to fight fucking dirty. because underhanded is not a synonym for the nies. he'd be livid that his little brother, over a decade later, still cannot rely on his own cultivation or physical prowess to prove who is the more righteous man between nsh & jgy. which is hilarious because it's exactly this that was the folly of nmj that got him killed in the first place. that man is a whole Mountain who refuses to bend on the idea that things shouldn't be done a certain way Caked in tradition that contributed well to his death. a bull of a man stacked with the trauma of inheriting a whole clan too soon, of inheriting an heir too soon, of playing politics with old men who only look to topple his own world, why wouldn't he cling fiercely to the only thing he's ever known? with his age??? the man was YOUNG when he inherited you can't look at me and say anyone under 20 is not bound for stupid stubborn and inflexible choices.

it kind of fucks me up that humans didn't know that dinosaurs existed until fairly recently. Like I know that this is largely just because of their pop culture presence but STILL. What do mean that people in the middle ages and ancient rome and cave times didn't know about the dinosaurs

People who do death of a daughter for nemesis are stronger then anyone else, because the death of a child is one fictional thing I just Cannot Handle emotionally ajdjfkgkgkh
Idk why! It's not related to any irl experiences that's for sure. But the idea of loosing a child is just too heartbreaking to me! Somehow! Hard pass for me even in story
It's slightly more okay if the character passed as an adult, but child death as a child is just a Big Oof for me

The "last" work of Coptic literature
The Triadon is a 14th century Sahidic Coptic and Arabic poem, written in a structure influenced by Arabic and Syriac songs and poetry, sometimes called exactly what this post is titled. The last work of Coptic literature- yet, we are still here. I know the term refers to the last work in an unbroken line of Coptic-language literary art. I know I am pedantic. But the study of Copts (especially in European languages) is dominated by those who are not Copts, and I think that shows in how Coptic culture is discussed. When Copts look to older icon styles today, it is called "Neo-Coptic". What is "Neo-" about it? Copts have been making icons the entire time they have been Copts. The styling which is referred to- while it does look to older art- is hardly a "broken line". Pieces from later centuries influence the style, which also incorporates pre-Coptic artistic elements (such as the revival of tree halos from Pharaonic art). The name smacks of insufficiency to my ears.
Further, what does an unbroken line mean? The significance of the Triadon is undeniable, but why must we decry Coptic literary art as having a "last"? Can we not say "most recent"? Turn that over in your mind- see how the camera angle shifts. Instead of Coptic as a language ending, ended, you now see the road as it goes on- the future it can have. This is before one considers the claims by some Copts that there ARE isolated villages that have kept the language more strongly than the rest of Egypt. These are hopeful and glorious- but if untrue, what does it matter? We are still here and so is the language. Once given breath it lives again.
The accusation of "death" haunts Egyptian religion, Egyptian culture. Being seen as ancient I have felt born dead. I can show you scholarly pieces I have read, accusing the ancient Egyptian religion to be death obsessed, and others where it is correctly identified as loving life dearly that pass on the blow to Copts, acting as though martyrdom under Rome was some madness my ancestors were afflicted with, and not the brutal reality of living under an empire. What "was" the Coptic language, what "did" this look or sound like. No wonder I am fond of writing in past tense- no one seems to recognize existence in the present.
What is a "last" poem when I can pull up a song right now on my phone with a modern attempt at old Coptic lyrics? Is it a titan of composition- no! But neither is the Triadon, and most will say that outright. "This poem is written in Sahidic that is already beginning, as it were, to fray at the edges". Must one be great to still be considered living? To have the potential to live?
Certainly, Coptic-language literature is not thriving. There aren't dozens of poems published every year, let alone more frequently. But there should never be a sense of finality. Youths fight for their language. The framing, to my mind, that is so often used, subtly murmurs a prophecy of failure. Perhaps every fool goes against a prophecy, but who made these academics prophets?
