i had to write an email to our HOA about this ridiculous battle we've been having over our door color, and my hubs kindly suggested that i may want to reword ' arbitrary fines after four years ' and ' since you insist on us repainting our door a grim, soulless black with no personality ' to something just a wee bit less passive aggressive

So we moved into a weird ass neighborhood with a fuckin HOA and yesterday one of the neighbors (2 houses away) texted to tell us not to let our dog pee on her front lawn (he didn't pee on her front lawn he peed on the fence across the sidewalk...you know...at the curb). She included two ring videos and said she doesn't even allow her "grandson" "granddog" (she made the typo).

Today as we were taking trash out, a different neighbor literally came out of her house and in lieu of introducing herself said "I live down the street and wanted to give you the number for our lawn guy."

I declined and said mowing just hasn't been a priority. There are like...4 tall weeds amongst the like 60sqft of grass we have.

Every house has signs like "no trespassing," "dogs keep away," and "*picture of a gun*".

The mailbox is a community box and there's a different box for packages. The mail carrier puts the package in the box and the box key in your mailbox. So if someone isn't around to get that package, no one else can get theirs either!

These people have nothing better to do with their lives than to make us feel super welcome!

Why is searching for a halfway decent home without an HOA so hard?

I rented from one and it was an absolute nightmare. I refuse to buy a house with one. But so many properties have one with no option to opt out.

So anyway, our complex's owner - which is a giant corporation now - was like "Um, im sowee but you have to remove all the stuff from outside becawse we are wepainting the buildings 'and we need to get the complex up to par and make the community look good again like it once was. All gardening pots and extra landscape must be removed! Nothing is allowed to be installed on the exterior of the residence as that this the responsibility of the association to maintain. Some folks will get upset, but the rules are the rules,' also bikes outside are illegal and we will break your chain and throw your bike away :) " GIRL WHAT? WHAT DO YOU MEAN "good again like it once was" I have been here for 9 years. This place has looked like shit before AND when i got here. ALSO WHAT RULES??? you have never once posted rules anywhere or given rules to ppl who move in. ALSO MY BUILDINGS ROOF IS STILL THE OLD TILES FROM 20 YEARS AGO WHILE ALL THE OTHER BUILDINGS HAVE NEW SHINGLES WHICH RESULTED IN ROOF DAMAGE AND LEAKAGE FROM THE HURRICANE. Are you gonna fix that to "make the community up to par" hmmmmm??? anyway all that to say, they never said i couldn't keep my railing lights and plants on my porch when the painting is done so if I get "a fine" for that i am going to kill someone.

This is where I stand politically...

My wife and I own some land, we're working on getting a house built. There is currently no HOA in the area. It is my deepest hope that one will appear around us. On the day that happens, when they come to invite us to include our property in their self-righteous cult of busybodies, I will have a contract prepared. It will state that the only circumstance under which our home will become a part of a Homeowner's Association is when the President of the HOA kidnaps me, ties me to an altar, carves out my beating heart with an athame, and sacrifices it to a pagan deity of their choice (I don't want to be exclusionary).

I mostly just want to see the looks on their faces.

Hate how it is impossible to go green nowadays.

Tried to grow native plants-got fined for not having a nice grass front yard by hoa and for having plants over 6 inches visible from the road by the city.

Tried to raise chickens and got fined because minimum yard size is almost 5000 square feet for 3 chickens.

Can’t install solar panels either because of fines from hoa.
