Frozen in Time
Fandom: DC Comics, JLI, GL Corps
Summary: Daddy-daughter weekend does not go as planned.
Chapters: 1/?
Characters: Michael Jon Carter (DCU), Rani Carter (DCU), Michelle Carter (DCU), Hal Jordan, Helen Jordan
Additional Tags: Fluff, Father-Daughter Relationship, Road Trip, Angst and Humor
Chapter One: Unicorns
"I'm a great dad," I defended myself. Michelle bounced her head from one side to the other sarcastically. "I am!"
"Okay... Try not to cause a world-ending crisis at the tea party," Michelle replied on her way out the door. I glanced over the checklist Skeets printed out and packed Rani's bag. He even color-coded it to show me what order to pack things in. I'd planned this weekend for months, hoping I'd finally get Rani to call me dad or some variation of the word. It was my chance to get Rani to see me as a real, genuine father figure.
I packed her bag, and then I packed lunch for our special picnic. I must've watched thousands of videos trying to figure out how to make unicorn grilled cheese sandwiches. I made every cool and trendy snack I could think of to impress her. It was a rare four-day weekend, and I planned on making it the best four days of Rani's little life. The plan was to be impressive and fatherly and show her I was all in on the fatherhood thing.
I understand people would say I'm not the most responsible, reliable, or predictable guy they know, but I had a chance to be something different with her. I figured I'd take her on a nice trip and follow it up with a tea party. My plan was foolproof. I finished packing and prepping with a few minutes to spare. I had enough time to walk to Rani's school and wait at the gate.
I put on my shoes and grabbed a snack, Rani's favorite toy, and her visor. I was so excited to see her that I took the hopscotch path. There was no rush to get home to dinner or a meeting. We had time.
I stood at the gate with the other parents. While I waited, a single mom struck up a conversation with me. "I didn't know your ears were pierced," she smiled.
I touched my ears and remembered I was wearing flower earrings. "Oh, yeah. I took Rani to get her ears pierced a few weeks ago, and I didn't want to make her do something I was too scared to do... So, I got mine done first," I replied, "That doesn't explain the earrings, though... Does it?"
"It doesn't have to," she laughed, "Were you scared?"
"Terrified," I chuckled, "I had to close my eyes and suck it up. But Rani was a champ."
The bell rang, and she waved goodbye. I power walked to Rani's class excitedly and scooped her up as soon as she came outside. "Hi, Mikey!" Rani laughed. I set her down and took her backpack.
"Here, I'll trade ya," I smiled as I handed her toy to her. I put the visor on her head and offered her a snack. Rani smiled and grabbed my hand. "Rani, I need your help with some stuff this weekend."
Rani pouted. "Is it a lot of work?" Rani questioned.
I nodded solemnly. I finally figured out how to get maximum excitement from kids. The trick is to seem as disappointing as possible so that reality would seem fantastic in comparison. She was so disappointed she couldn't muster the energy to swing my hand. It took everything in my power to keep from laughing.
When we got home, she helped me put all the bags in the car, and then it clicked. "Hey! Why are we putting suitcases in the car?" Rani questioned.
"You've got me! Okay, I wanted to take you on a trip this weekend... Just you and me," I replied. Rani jumped into my arms.
"Wow! Where are we going?" Rani asked. I shook my head and grinned.
"That would ruin the surprise," I replied, letting her back in the house. "I'll wait in the car."
Rani paused. "Is it a long drive?" Rani questioned. I nodded. "Then you should go to the bathroom before we leave."
I opened my mouth to speak, but I realized she was right. After we met at the car, Rani sat in the backseat and buckled her seatbelt. "Mikey, guess what?" Rani asked.
"I love a guess what," I replied.
"We saw a real firefighter today," Rani announced, "How come you don't have a big truck? All the helpers today had big trucks."
"That's a great question. You see, they're better drivers than I am. I could probably drive a big truck, but I think it'd be responsible driving a car I'm comfortable with," I answered. Minus ten cool points for the minivan dad.
"Everyone has different abilities. Not everybody can do your job," Rani reassured me.
"Thanks, Rani," I replied.
She fell asleep immediately after that, and I turned the radio on low. I got on the freeway and drove for almost an hour before Rani woke up to tell me about her dream. "You were there! And you had a sword," Rani replied, "You looked so cool."
Thank you to Rani's subconscious! "I could definitely get a sword... I could be a sword guy," I replied, "Do you think I should get a sword in real life?"
"Yeah!" Rani replied.
"Cool! I'll probably have to take sword fighting lessons and learn proper sword safety because safety is important—."
"You still get your toast out of the toaster with a fork," Rani interrupted.
"Okay, but—. Is that actually—? Do you wanna pull over and have a surprise snack?" I asked.
"Yes, please!" Rani shouted. I grinned and pulled to the side of the road near an orchard. I climbed into the backseat. "What's in there?"
"A surprise. I made these," I replied. I pulled out two neatly-wrapped unicorn-shaped grilled cheese sandwiches. Rani unwrapped hers and gasped.
"They're so pretty! How did you make rainbow colors inside the sandwich? Is it like marshmallows?" Rani questioned. I took a bite and shook my head.
"Take a bite," I replied. Rani took a bite and smiled.
"It's cheese!" Rani exclaimed. She took another bite, and I took a moment to soak in my victory. The grilled cheese was a hit! I finally managed to make something for her that we both liked.

Snow Day
SO IT TURNS OUT @tourettesdog also had a far-frozen based Phic Phight prompt so here's a sister fic of Snowdrift Sanctuary from yesterday okay please and thank you
Tundra peeked around the pillar of ice. Again.
The human was still there.
…Tundra peeked left. Tundra peeked right. No one else had seen them yet.
The human, in a big coat and big boots was squatting in the snow, drawing shapes Tundra couldn’t make out with their finger.
Tundra’s tail wagged. Well. He didn’t have a very long tail, so he mostly butt-wiggled. There’d never been a human at the Far Frozen before!! Tundra had heard of humans — he’d seen depictions and heard stories, sure. But now a human was here. And they lived here.
That was so cool.
So, maybe Tundra wanted to say hi! So what? Mama had said that he should be nice to the human, since they needed help and shelter that the Chief would provide, but they were also new and interesting and they hardly ever had anyone stay with them who wasn’t a yeti ever!! Maybe they’d let Tundra play with them while they were here?
So Tundra got down on his haunches. He crawled over the snowbank, wriggling as he went, taking advantage of his coat that blended into the terrain.
The human didn’t see him at all.
Tundra bared his teeth in a play grin, eyes squinting, tongue caught between his teeth. The human was so close. He crouched down as far as he could. He waited until the human wasn’t looking.
Tundra pounced.
And then there was a flash of green burning through the air, hot and bright and loud. Tundra startled.
He landed in the snow, dazed and off-balance. He could feel a hot spot in his fur—putting his paw to it, Tundra could feel where his fur was burnt to singed ends, the tips of each hair bulbous with char.
There was a steaming hole in the snow behind him.
…Oh.
“HOLY SH—are you okay?? Did I hurt you?? I’m sorry!!” someone shouted. Someone gently turned Tundra’s head, careful not to move him too harshly or too quickly. “Is your head okay? Are you bleeding? Is—“
“…Cool.” Tundra muttered, eyes still stuck to the hole in the snow. That was so strong. Even Avalanche wasn’t that strong, and she beat everyone in the tournament last season. No wonder the chief was in charge of the human ghost, even if there were lots of adults willing to help.
“Sorry, I’m so sorry,” the human apologized again, hands on their flat, pink face. Huh. Their hair was white now. When did that happen? “Usually when ghosts sneak up on me, they’re, uh… they’re not usually playing.”
Tundra looked at the human’s flat face and frowned. They got attacked? For real, and not for playing? “That’s mean. I hope you got them.”
The human made a strangled noise. Super weird! “Yeah…yeah. I did.”
“Good,” Tundra decided, back straightening straight up. The human was about as tall as he was, but humans were smaller in general. They were probably older. “If anyone attacks you now, you should get the Chief to eat them, and then they won’t attack you anymore.”
The human made another choked noise. Tundra assumed it was a laugh. He grinned back, pleased with the response, and wriggled back upright. “I’m Tundra! Mama says that you’re older than me even though we’re just as tall as each other! Are you a boy human, or a girl human? Or neither? Or both?!”
“…I’m a boy,” the human said, voice weak. Tundra peered in close at him, trying to see if he’d been injured too, but no; he looked fine, and he got his black hair back too.
“Cool,” said Tunda. “So am I. Arctic is too, but he’s big already, so he doesn’t want to play all the time. Do you like hunting?”
“I’ve…never hunted before.”
Not ever? Tundra gasped. “We can play chase, then, and then the chief can teach you how to hunt! And then we can hunt together!” Tundra scrambled to his feet, excited. “Do you want to stalk Avalanche with me?! She always throws me off, and then we can wrestle!”
The human hesitated.
“Or,” Tundra amended, because the human was still kind of small, “You can watch me stalk Avalanche, and watch us wrestle, and then I can teach you to stalk the chief so that you can wrestle with someone you know is safe.”
The human snorted, the fur cuff from his sleeve hiding his face. “I don’t know…isn’t he busy? You know, being the chief and all…””
“You’re supposed to wrestle your parents,” Tundra assured him, chest fur puffing up with pride. “I used to chew on Mama’s ears all the time when I was a cub. Now Avalanche and Arctic and everyone else can wrestle with me because they’re big enough to know how to stop playing before they squash me flat.”
The human laughed, openly and brightly, and it sounded nice.
Tundra stood so that could he could launch himself back towards the settled part of their little patch of the Infinite Realms. “Come on!!” he shouted, more than eager to play. “Last one there doesn’t get any fish eyes!”
There was a moment of silence—and then they were both rolling in the snow, the human having decided to launch into him!! This was great!! Tundra whooped, feigning bites and wriggling while the human pushed him further into the depths of the snow. The human’s grin was kind of wide and weird without a muzzle, but that wasn’t his fault, and he was having fun!! And so was Tundra!!
And the human-ghost could fly, and Tundra couldn’t, so chasing after him was super fun. They made it all the way back to the settlement in no time flat, dodging other kith and kin—
And running into Mama and Chief Advisor Pritla on accident was worth how much trouble he got into later.
Whoops!

The Avatar’s Hobby
Avatar Aang was widely considered the greatest Avatar in the past millennia. At just twelve years old he prevented the genocide of his people, stymied all out war between the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation, and somehow stripped the Fire Lord behind these attempted atrocities of his bending. He did not remove Sozin’s family from power, despite the corruption. He watched them carefully. He had a solid grasp of all of the elements before even meeting his teachers. Aang was dedicated to peace and the sanctity of life. There was just one eccentricity that gave people pause…
The matchmaking.
Admittedly, it took years for anyone to notice but over the decades it became clear that Avatar Aang was pushing certain couples together. Most notably in the Fire Nation, when he introduced Crown Prince Azulon to his future wife, Ilah; but it was happening all over the world. He helped a woman escape the Northern Water Tribe to the South and attended her wedding after insistently guiding her to a particular Tribe with a specific young man who stammered and blushed and happily yielded to her in every matter. He supplemented a young Earth Kingdom merchant’s income so he could buy a marriage to a noblewoman. He helped a pair of peasants elope. He encouraged romance between specific members of the Northern Water Tribe’s most respected families.
He happily, sometimes desperately, meddled with seemingly random families all over the world. It was strange, but it was just a quirk. If he wanted to matchmake between preserving world peace and protecting humanity from the Spirit World, it wasn’t like it was hurting anyone.
Crown Prince Iroh reconsidered this widely held belief when the Avatar quite insistently arranged a marriage between his younger brother and Lady Ursa, granddaughter of the previous Avatar, Roku. Iroh and Aang had always gotten along. Aang, already an old man at his birth, had taught him Pai Sho and taken him on trips around the world. He was almost like his uncle. While the kind old Avatar had tried to treat Ozai the same way, Iroh had always sensed profound wariness in the Avatar when dealing with his younger brother, a wariness he tried to mask with his usual cheer and jokes. So why was Avatar Aang so determined to ensure that Ozai would marry Lady Ursa?
A similar issue was plaguing Hakoda of the Southern Water Tribe. No matter who he brought home, Avatar Aang seemed to disapprove. It was like his honorary uncle was looking for someone specific. If Aang had tried to push the young man to break up with someone Hakoda never would have acquiesced. But the old man just stared at him with his girlfriend so mournfully, as if he was going to begin sobbing, that Hakoda would eventually end the relationship.
The relief on the Avatar’s face always made him feel like he’d done the right thing.
The day that he introduced Aang to Kya and saw his face light up was the day Hakoda knew that he’d found the one. He’d found the woman that he was going to marry.
In the Earth Kingdom an assorted handful of merchants and nobles accepted the Avatar’s betrothal suggestions. It was good business to be favored by the Avatar.
Avatar Aang arrived the night before Lady Ursa went into labor. The old man was apparently more frantic than the rest of the family. Iroh made a dozen pots of tea in an attempt to calm the old airbender.
When an attendant emerged from the room Aang was the first on his feet. “Is he alright?” He demanded sharply. Iroh blinked and wondered how he knew the baby was a boy.
“Yes, he is. Quite healthy for a child born so close to midnight.” The woman answered, holding the new nobleborn at a professional distance from her. Aang stepped forward, and before any other member of the family had a chance, he took the baby into his arms. Iroh raised an eyebrow and exchanged a glace with his father. Both Fire Lord and Prince decided to say nothing of this curious breach of conduct and courtesy.
Aang trembled, clutching the tiny newborn blinking up at him with two whole golden eyes. “You’re here.” He whispered. “You’re really here…” The baby fussed as tears fell on his head. “I missed you so much, Zuko.”
The Avatar greeted the Princess of the Northern Water Tribe as well, directing her parents to the sacred oasis when she was born too early and without a sound. He even plead with the Moon Spirit himself to aid the child. The Princess woke with hair like the moon and a grateful Avatar gathering her into his arms.
Avatar Aang was seen mourning on Kyoshi Island. He went to the home of every new or expecting family before he donned the colors of grief and left the island teary eyed. Saying only that he’d lost her.
Avatar Aang was at the birth of both of Hakoda and Kya’s children. Somehow, more joyful than the parents themselves.
The Beifongs had not expected the baby to be blind. Avatar Aang assured them that she would be more powerful than any other person he had ever known.
Aang sat on edge of the Southern Air Temple, surrounded by children from every nation. Their parents might not like Aang’s impromptu field trips for them, but he couldn’t resist sometimes. Whether it was to train with badgermoles, to fly with dragons, to see new wonders, or simply to light candles for the only one he’d failed… the only one whose lineage he hadn’t known. Aang might be over a century old, but he would always need his friends. It had taken decades, but his family was as complete as it was going to be.
Zuko and Sokka argued over which of them was taller. Yue braided Katara’s hair. And Toph used earthbending to lift herself above them all, laughing manically as she did.
Sky bison passed, carrying young monks and nuns to new adventures. And even with the ever present ache of Suki’s loss… Aang was happy.

you should absolutely write more of that dick pic fic if ur so inclined like I am LISTENING
i am taking this as a follow-up 3 sentence request
Pierre's gaze falls to where Charles is now white-knuckling the phone--for the briefest of moments, it looks like he's concerned that Charles hadn't found the joke funny, or maybe that he'd been offended and was worried about apologizing, which...Pierre knows him better than that, Charles knows, but it's still comforting to know that he really does care.
Of course, the moment passes quickly as he registers the image in the blink of an eye, and Charles can only watch in muted horror as Pierre goes redder than Charles has ever seen him in his life before snatching the phone from his grasp, turning the screen off as if that will erase the image of his dick from where it's been burned into Charles' eyelids.
"I," he starts after a long beat, voice too loud, then stops and shakes his head and tries to laugh a little before he continues, "that was not for you," which, yes Charles knew that bit (the errant thought of I wish it was skitters through his brain, which he does not have time to unpack)--but hearing it somehow makes the reality of every date night story his best friend has ever told come to life: that that photo is on someone else's phone, gaudy and lustful and full of an intention that makes Charles want to squirm in his seat for a reason he can't quite identify.

Fuck this. Mommy issues OC is go. Vent fic because adulting is hard and leaving home is hard but sometimes going home is harder

Shadow. Darkness. Night-bringer. Sunset. Twilight. Dusk.
They looked out to the balcony as the day faded, then turned to face the demon within.
He leaned against the wall, fading as their darkness grew. He was beautiful, even now: his fair skin and clothes stained with dark blood, once-immaculate snowy locks tangled around ivory horns, silvered eyes hazy and unseeing.
Yet still he wore a smile.
It unnerved them. Someone dying shouldn't smile like that, shouldn't be sitting with such perfect posture. They'd driven a blade through his lungs and heart... and they realized with a sinking feeling that all the blood on him was too dark to be his own.
"You're not dying." They crossed the room with two long strides and knelt beside him, grasping his collar. "Why aren't you dying!?"
"Oh, darling. You might as well hope to kill the sun itself." Long fingers indicated his own chest, confident despite the weakness in his voice. "I am the light, Shadow. I am all that is bright in the world, and I will return to drive you away like sunrise chases away the night."
"Liar!" Their voice cracked. "You're as mortal as I am, anything can be killed."
"But not by you." His fingers caught in their long, dark hair, dragging their head down. Their lips met his, and, despite themself, they kissed him back.
"I'll be back, my shadow."
The mouth on theirs faded, dissolved into a thousand shimmering particles, and within moments the demon was no more. The light that had made up his body melted into the vanishing sunlight, and he was gone.
They stood slowly, shaken. If he wasn't dead, everything they'd fought for was at risk. They had to find him, end him.
They drifted through the celebration in a haze. Everyone wanted to speak to them, to thank them for doing what they did, for ending his regime. They didn't know what to say. They hadn't ended anything, they'd only given a brief respite. Would it even be enough?
As all celebrations will, it drew to a close, and the people drifted back to their homes, to go back to their everyday lives. Most people's lives hadn't changed too much, not yet.
The newly anointed hero gave one last look at the white stone palace and made a sharp jerking motion with their hand. With a great shudder, the delicate structure reshaped itself into a sturdy, simple building. This one was not white, but age-greyed, beautiful in its simplicity rather than a fairytale creation of spun sugar and mist. This one was real, and true, and lasting.
They turned and left the city. They had to figure out how to truly end him, but before that... They'd left home for a reason. Was home even still there?
People poked their heads out and waved as they passed. Unlit lanterns stood in windows still, a symbol of support for the rebellion. Some doors were splashed with black paint, others bore wreaths of brightly colored weeds, and still others sported brightly colored ribbons tied together with a black strand. Almost everyone wore some article of clothing in black or gray, white nowhere to be seen.
They reached the edge of the city and vanished.
Many miles from the city the air shimmered, and they stepped out at the edge of a small village. It still looked the same as it did seven years ago. Every house was in the same place, the same state, the people looked much the same as they moved about their daily lives.
They looked around the village, and their chest constricted. They took a breath and kept moving.
The door they knocked on was green. That was new. The paint had been blue and peeling last time they were here.
A woman opened the door, her nut-brown skin a match for their own. Her hair was pinned up, her hands floured. She studied them for a moment with sharp dark eyes.
"Phoebe," she said in greeting. "You're home."
They flinched. They'd forgotten that name, it had been so long. "Mother. I'm--"
"Come in." She took a step back, and they automatically followed her. "I can't believe you, leaving for years with no word! We thought you'd been eaten by a wolf, or that soldiers stole you away! A pretty young girl like you, you're in danger alone!" Bread and cheese and a bowl of stew were shoved into their hands. "Here, eat. You look half starved. I'm so glad you've come back, we needed you around here, especially the last few years." Her tone was reproachful, blaming. "Why did you run off, my love?"
They stared down at the stew.
"Sweetie?" Her tone wasn't harsh, wasn't sharp, but her voice... Her voice made their legs tense, their chest tight. They needed to get out before they broke down crying like a child. They couldn't stay here
but they couldn't leave.
The young hero who had fought off soldiers mounted on dragons and stood up to the emperor stood frozen in their mother's house.
"I- I can't." They set the bowl down. "I can't do this, I have to go."
"Wait, what?" Their mother hurried to the door, blocking their path. "Seven years without a word, you show up for one minute to show me you're alive, and now leave again?! I'm your mother, I bore you, I raised you and fed you for twenty-one years, and this is how you repay me?! Sweetheart, please don't do this to me! Can't you see I love you? I've missed you so much."
The tears finally fell, and they choked up, turning away. "M-Mother, I can't, please, I have to go."
"My daughter, light of my life..." She stepped closer.
They flinched away from her touch and stepped towards the door. Freedom was just on the other side, but their feet seemed heavier. They sniffled, rubbing their stinging nose.
She really did miss them. She'd always loved them, and they loved her.
"Mother?" they said softly.
"Yes, Phoebe?"
"How much do you know about the rebels?"
She frowned. "They're a group of violent terrorists trying to destroy the empire. Don't worry, sweetheart, our emperor will stamp them out."
Their breath caught, their hand on the knob. "I'm sorry, Mother. Goodbye." They flung the door open and dashed out.
"Phoebe!" Their mother's desperate wail pierced their heart and dragged at their feet.
Fists clenched at their sides, they spun to face her, tossing their hair back. They hadn't cut it in seven years. "My name is LILAH!"
Their mother stopped short.
"I'm not Phoebe!" Tears threatened, and they furiously swiped them away. "I'm not your light, and I'm not your perfect daughter! I'm sorry, but I haven't been for a long time. I'm Lilah, I'm the Shadow, the Nightbringer. And the Light Lord is dead!"
Her hands were clasped over her mouth. "Phoebe, please, I know you don't mean it."
"I do." Their voice caught in a sob, their arms folded tight over their chest. "I'm not your daughter anymore."
"Then what are you?" she whispered.
"I'm the Shadow that killed the Light."
Their mother stared at them, her gaze cold.
Lilah's shoulders shook as they backed away.
"Come find me when you can accept me as I truly am," they whispered. "Come find me when I'm more important to you than your daughter."
And they fled, inhumanly fast, the wind whipping away their sobs.

Chapter Two: The Cake is Lava
We drove for nearly an hour, and I stopped at a hotel for the afternoon. It was close to a restaurant we'd been to once. I ordered the food to come to our hotel room while Rani took her bath and I set up for a movie. "Mikey! Is Michelle gonna meet us there?" Rani asked.
"Nope! It's just the two of us!" I yelled back. Rani came out in her pajamas and plopped beside me on the hotel bed. "Did you brush your teeth?" She nodded. "Wash your hair?" She nodded again, and I sniffed her head. "Okay, you pass this time."
"Are you hungry?" Rani asked.
"Starved, but the food is almost-." Someone knocked on the door, and I rolled off the bed and answered. "Oh, thanks!"
"Mikey, what is it?" Rani asked.
I covered the table and opened the seafood boil bag. The smile on Rani's face did it for me. I snapped another picture, and this time she was ready for me. Rani loved seafood, but it was more of a special occasion thing. She sat on her knees at the table and dug in. It felt good to see her enjoying herself. She didn't even notice the movie playing in the background. "Mikey, wanna eat some crayfish?" Rani asked. I nodded and took a few for myself. I usually preferred potatoes and corn, but it was her weekend. I couldn't move myself to say no.
Rani danced in her seat and blew me a kiss. I blew her a kiss back. So good so far, or maybe I spoke too soon. The room went silent, followed by a click, and the power went out. Rani huffed and puffed before asking me to use the flashlight on my phone. I turned it on, and she finished eating before grabbing her jacket from the coat hanger, and we slipped our shoes on. "Let's go, Mikey," Rani sighed.
"Go where?" I asked. She took my hand, and we went to the stairwell. "Rani?"
"We're going to the front desk," Rani replied. I nodded and held the flashlight as we walked down six flights. I was surprised she wasn't tired, but then again, they interrupted her special dinner, and she was pissed. It reminded me of Michelle when we were little. Always insistent on making things right. When we got to the front desk, Rani rang the bell and waited for the hostess to greet us. I picked her up so that she could tell them what she wanted.
"Your power's out," Rani stated.
"Yes, it is, sweetheart. We're waiting for the electrician—."
"I can fix it," Rani replied. The woman opened her mouth to say something to patronize her, and I shook my head.
"She's good with this kind of stuff. Don't write her off," I warned.
"Is it a fuse box or a circuit breaker?" Rani asked. The woman's eyes went wide, and she led Rani and me back to the breaker and gave Rani a toolbox. She replaced the circuit, and the power came back on.
The hostess offered us free room service, and Rani asked for two lava cakes and french fries. "Why'd you order two cakes?" I asked on our way to the elevator.
"One for you because you're my best friend," Rani answered matter-of-factly. I cleared the table, and Rani hung her jacket on the coat rack.
I turned our movie on again, and Rani lay on my hotel bed, kicking her feet. I lay next to her, and we almost fell asleep in front of the tv. Room service knocked and gave us our lava cake and fries. After that, there weren't any more interruptions. We ate and washed our hands before I got ready to tuck Rani in. I didn't get to do that often. "Mikey?" Rani whispered.
"Yeah?" I asked.
"Since it's a special trip, can you sleep here tonight?" Rani asked. She patted the other side of her bed.
"Yeah, okay... I can do that," I whispered as I climbed into bed beside her. She turned on her side and went straight to sleep.
I couldn't sleep. I hoped the rest of the trip would go off without a hitch. The power outage was out of my control, but there was still a chance I could ruin things. We'd be at our destination by lunchtime if we beat traffic. Rani tossed and turned, kicking me as she slept. I patted her on the back to get her to lie still.
She was a rough sleeper, but eventually, we both settled down, and I caught a few z's. When I woke up, Rani was already dressed. I think she was talking to Skeets on my phone. "Mikey's fine. We had dinner and dessert last night—."
"Skeets, stop micromanaging me through my kids! It's embarrassing," I chastised him.
Rani put the phone on speaker. "You're on speaker!" Rani announced.
"Thank you, Rani. Sir, do you remember your itinerary?" Skeets questioned.
I glanced at the clock. It was still fairly early. "I know. I'm still on schedule. As a matter of fact, I'm early. We can get breakfast and Sundollar and still get there in time. Don't worry... Talk to Rani about what she did last night while I hop in the shower," I replied.
I grabbed my bag and took a shower. Afterward, I packed all of Rani's stuff and mine. "Gotta checkout... Bye, Skeets," I replied before hanging up.
Rani took my hand, and we went to the front desk to check out. "Did you have fun, Mikey?" Rani asked. I nodded.
"I always have fun with you," I replied. Rani smiled up at me, and we were on the road again.
The fun thing about traveling with kids is they make you stop and look at things you'd never pay attention to by yourself. We pulled over just outside of town to pet some cows. We even had a pleasant conversation with the farmer that owned them. Then we ended up buying fresh plums. And we still made it to the park on time. Rani ran around the park, swinging on the swings and walking up the slide. I set up one of the picnic tables. I called Rani, and she ran to the table. I gave her a juice box and some dried fruit while I looked for our sandwiches underneath the plums. "Mikey, I thought you said you couldn't cook," Rani whispered.
She's right. I couldn't cook. It took forever to figure out how to make those few snacks. "I'm learning," I answered.
"You should cook more," Rani replied. I smiled. Another win.

after reading a few of @jrob64 's captainswan oneshots, I came upon a Liam and Elsa scene in her fic "Snowstorm Confessions," (which, of course, I highly recommend!)....
Tumblr media
anyways, i very hilariously misinterpreted this scene in my mind, for some reason picturing him just immediately punching a bowl of raw potatoes alá wreck-it-ralph. after we had a good laugh about it in the comments. I decided it would be fun to try my hand at drawing it the way my brain wrote it 😅

Kristoff and Anna’s wedding is fast approaching and Kristoff is absolutely handling the pressure well. No, really, he’s fine.
Until a stranger visits the castle with an earth-shattering declaration that challenges everything Kristoff thought he knew about his childhood.
But, the trolls wouldn’t lie to him…would they?
[A Changeling AU]

AKA the fic my brain would not let go of until I wrote it 💀

i literally don't talk about it much but i do often think about the cut ahit character, tim the time ceo. he had a rather silly (yet somewhat relatable) backstory and concept for his character but it would have been neat if we could see more characters from where hat kid comes from.
also i really liked his design:
Tumblr media
he seemed like such a lovely character

This is where I currently am with my rewrite of Tales Of A Frozen Sailor. Just right at the beginning essentially. No one knows who Jesse Hudson actually is, but soon some new information is soon to come to light.
#other than myself and maybe a couple of other people maybe#I don't know that this rewrite is for anyone but myself#this story is such a passion project though.#truly as it's dirived from some of my favourite things. time travel. Titanic.#it has roots in one of my favourite movies due to the fact that many of the characters come from fanfic from one of my closest friends#I don't think that I could ever consider publishing it though because it does have that strong fanfic connection#If I could change some of the names maybe but doing that would feel like it changes the characters too much#so therefore it can never be published into an actual book as much as I love this story#tales of a frozen sailor#musing on tales of a frozen sailor#I just would love to know if anyone else likes this story nearly half as much as I do#though I'm considering that I might sneak it into my Extended Connections fic once I finish the rewrite#not that I think anyone will care for it there either#as I don't get that many comments about my writing in general#my style/voice just probably isn't for everyone#as it certainly hasn't changed in style/voice much over the years#that was never so clear as when a read out loud a little bit of Different Kind of Cinderella in comparison to The Autopsy#never had I realized how distinctive it sounds at very least to me#how even though the writing was at minimum 10 years apart in writing it was so very clearly written by me in my style/voice#it was a bit shocking but I guess not overly surprising all things considered#now I've written much more than I ever intended to in the tags here. you're a champ if you read them all
