merlin writers made an absolute litany of insane crazy /neg decisions over the course of the television program but. making merlin's first love the lady of the lake at the start of the show and then making him give the love of his life to her at the end. fucken based. absolutely red pilled.

partying in the lake with Merlin's exes must be awkward. Freya Merlin's first love who tried to kill Arthur and Arthur ended up killing her, Lancelot with whom Arthur's wife cheated on him and well Arthur. This soup is very interesting

The fact that Merlin just instantly decides to pack up and leave Camelot with Freya is crazy OVERLOOKED. There isn't any better example of how desperate Merlin is to be known and loved. To be free.
He finds a person he thinks he can be honest and safe with, a person LIKE HIM, he is immediately ready to ditch literally everything and everyone in Camelot to get back to a feeling he never thought he would have.
For once he was thinking about HIMSELF, not about destiny, Albion or even Arthur. He was happy. Both him and Freya were happy.
All Merlin truly wants in this world is to be known and loved. To be happy and free. He thinks he sees a chance and damn, he DESERVES IT.
We deserved this Merlin in Season 5. We were close to having this Merlin back when Arthur said  "I don't want you to change. I want you...to always be you".

Merlin: [taking Freya on a tour of the citadel] This is my "I Told You So" room, where I like to gloat after a completely wild accusation turns out to be spot on. That's my "Oops" corner, where I apologize to people for being arrested after a completely wild accusation turns out to be just that. Over there is where you get gum. Free.

and as i was drowning in mud
i looked around
i just wanted to be loved
decided to start uploading my previous artwork here. this one is from 2020? 2021?
it's about sad pining and unresolved feelings of merlin who just wants to be loved by at least somebody but also just happy to be around and to be helpful even if his feelings won't be requited or relationships and his happiness won't last.

Has Merlin & Freya been done yettt?
Not yet!
The Freya episode never fails to make me cry. Every time I start that episode I think that I will make it through without bawling this time, and every time I watch it I end up red faced and puffy.
It’s just… it’s the… Freya was a literal monster and Merlin always felt like a monster because the anti magic laws turned him into one! *despairing hand gestures*
“You made me feel loved”
Tumblr media
The way merlin lights up around Freya and really let’s his sweet side shine! I caaaan’t!
I can’t even think of more things to say because!!! Them!!
I rank this:
A-Tier
Send me a Merlin Ship and I’ll rank it on a tier list. Note: This is a subjective ranking and a low ranking in no way means that I am shaming you for your taste in ships.

I don’t blame Merlin for falling for Freya so quick because I was rewatching the episode and she’s so adorable.

Lament Of The Lake- Remarcely AO3 [Merlin Fanfic]
Grief comes in waves.
At first, it feels like when you put your head underwater and your ears just pop, then all of a sudden you can’t hear the people swimming around you. The water isn’t cold either, it’s sort of warm, and a vague feeling of floating numbness surrounds you. Then the shock wears off and everything happens all at once- you’re vaulted up to the surface, coughing and spluttering for air, with your arms flailing about with nothing to hold onto.
If you’re lucky, and there’s someone close by, another drowner will grab on tight and hold you until you’re both carefully treading water. Perhaps you’ll even swim to shore.
Or you’ll sink.
Watching the boat drift further across the lake, knowing Freya was aboard underneath the ferns and flowers, Merlin wanted nothing more than to sink with her. He humours the thought for a while, taking a small step closer to the water’s edge- and then he raises a hand with a mutter and the boat catches aflame. The wood and dry leaves catch quickly.
He waits until the last of the flames die before turning on his heel for the laborious journey back to Camelot.
-
Merlin spent the first few days with his head underwater. The people that talked at him were muffled, even Arthur’s shouting dulled into a background hum. Some took notice, Gwen leaving gentle touches on his shoulder and a helping hand with his chores. Gaius left him sleeping tonics, concerned his stress over his job and destiny were keeping him up at night. Merlin didn’t use them, but he was amused by the thoughtfulness.
The knights pitched in as well, asking how he was feeling and offering their assistance with cleaning the armour. Even Arthur himself became conscious of Merlin’s unusual behaviour- a feat in itself- and began to soften his words and trim the list of chores a little shorter as time passed. Without the merciless jabs back and forth or the roughhousing, the princes’ chambers felt a little colder.
When the shock wore off, Merlin was alone in the woods. He’d been dealing with a rogue sorcerer and their plans against the crown, going as far as to chase after them into the woods. They had argued and fought, finally ending with a mortal blow and the man staggering to the ground.
Merlin stared at the body for a long time.
Something built up inside of him- something angry and raw. There was an itch upon the skin down his back, like ants crawling about. He scratched at it but the feeling lingered, if anything it grew stronger and spread up his neck and down his arms. His nails followed the itch, clawing at his flesh, leaving red lines and inflamed skin in a trail.
The feeling that was swelling inside grew until he was practically buzzing with magic. Merlin didn’t bother to restrain himself; he didn’t care.
It shot out, unbridled and violent, rendering the surrounding trees asunder. His throat hurt afterwards and a part of him wondered if the sound he’d heard when letting go of his magic was in fact his own scream. Whatever it was, it left him dry heaving and swaying on his feet. The back of his throat tasted like sick.
The itching calmed, though did not completely disappear and instead lessened just enough for Merlin to pull his bloodied nails away. A crow hopped up onto the snapped and splintered remains of a tree trunk, tilting its head in Merlin’s direction, as if to say ‘seriously?’.
Merlin mumbled his apology- by the goddess, he was talking to birds now- and fled.
-
Oddly enough, it was Gwaine who found him later that night. Merlin was tucked away in an alcove, his head pressed against the cold glass of the window and his arms wrapped around his legs, tucked up close to his chest. The footsteps of the knights’ boots echoed down the bare hallway, giving Merlin plenty of chances to flee if he would like, yet he remained exactly where he was and simply shut his eyes.
Gwaine joined him in the alcove, sat next to his feet- which moved further into himself to make more room- and swallowed hard as he gathered his courage.
“You have the princess tearing apart half the castle looking for you.” He murmured gently, staring at Merlin’s painfully blank expression “Disappearing like that after the attack on Arthur- it’s shaken him. The same for me as well, I must admit, but I can’t say I was concerned about the sorcerer getting one over you.”
Gwaine cleared his throat and fidgeted, pinching at the ends of his gloves fingers “You haven’t been yourself these past few days, it’s as if you’re not with us at all. When you vanished… I had not a clue where you were, my friend, and it terrified me.”
Merlin’s eyes opened slowly but kept them firmly fixed on the raindrops trickling down the other side of the glass; it had begun to storm “I am sorry.”
“I do not seek your apologies, Merlin, it would be the last thing on my mind.” Gwaine leaned closer and lowered his voice “Talk to us. You must know, surely, that we would do anything for you, regardless of what you are owed. I am not here out of any other duty than being your friend.”
With his eyes beginning to fog up, Merlin heaved in a deep breath and after a long paused opened his mouth to speak “I lost someone.”
Gwaine winced “Was it a member of your family, perhaps someone from your village?”
“No,” Merlin’s voice wavered and finally met Gwaine’s gaze as the first few tears began to break away from his eyes “I barely knew her.”
“Ah.” His eyes misted in sympathy, grasping the situation in mere seconds. He reached out and patted Merlin’s knee. He left the hand there, a grounding anchor “But you loved her?”
Not trusting his words in the slightest, Merlin nodded.
Gwaine didn’t try to force a conversation. He sat with Merlin and, only when he began to shake with suppressed sobs he tried to force down, did Gwaine pull him into his arms. In all his years in Camelot, through the shit he’d suffered through and long nights, Merlin never felt more helpless than he did crying in his friends hold like a child. The hand Gwaine had rubbing circles into his back only made him cry harder- though he still did not make a sound.
At some point, between the tears and hushed reassurances, Merlin fell asleep. Gwaine lifted his friend up when he noticed, pulling him fully into his grasp and leaned against the wall. He didn’t realise he was moving until his fingers circled Merlin’s skinny wrist, searching for a pulse.
His own heartbeat had barely slowed since Arthur, wild-eyed, had all but broken the door down to announce Merlin as missing. Merlin was as much his weakness as Arthur was for him. Gwaine had realised how much the two relied on each other since he first met them. It scared him, the idea of one living without the other. He doubted they’d be living at all.
He carded a hand through Merlin’s mop of dark brown curls and took a deep breath.
“Merlin?”
Gwaine glanced up, immediately spotting a breathless Arthur hurrying down the halls, eyes only for his servant “He’s not injured, Arthur. Just sleeping.”
Arthur made no notion of having heard Gwaine, tearing off his gloves to cradle Merlin’s head between both his hands as if he were more precious than gold, too shatterable to touch. His thumb brushed underneath one his eyes, crossing over darkened bags and wiping away the remains of his tears.
“Where was he?” Arthur croaked, not moving his gaze from Merlin’s peaceful face. He hadn’t seen his friend so calm in days.
“I don’t know, I found him here not long ago.” Gwaine made enough space for Arthur to sit and pull Merlin into his own arms “He said he’s grieving. For a girl.”
Arthur looked pained and rested his forehead against Merlin’s “By all that is good,” He let out a bones-deep weary sigh “He terrifies me.” In the rush of guards running past, the sorcerer disappearing in a whirl of his cloak, and a servant screaming, nothing had compared to the fear that had gripped his heart than when he realised Merlin was not beside him.
“Me as well.” Gwaine nocked his head back against the stone arch “Is it my understanding you will not be letting him out of your sights?” He asked with a faint quirk to his lips, the ghost of a laugh haunting his eyes.
“If I had my way, he’d not leave my chambers.” Arthur mumbled, likely unaware of what he’d admitted aloud. He too searched out Merlin’s pulse, though under his jaw, and sighed again.
Had it been any other day, Gwaine would have teased the prince, but with the circumstances he found it best to hold his tongue.
The rustle of clothes and armour echoed down the halls, Arthur heaved Merlin up into his arms, pausing to rest his chin on his servant’s head. He closed his eyes, counted in his head, and did his best to steel himself.
“He’ll stay with me tonight.” His tone left no room for argument, not that Gwaine had any intention to bother “Alert the rest of the knights Merlin has been found. There will be no need for training in the morning, leave them to their sleep.”
They exchanged nods and parted ways.

What the BBC:Merlin characters' fav movie genres are based on vibes alone
Arthur: Rom-coms. I mean take one look at that boy and tell me he hasn't memorized every confession scene ever. He's a romantic at heart, and kind of annoying about it. Look at the way he looks at Gwen. I mean c'mon
Merlin: indie/ cult classics. Curious by nature and loves to make fun of people (mostly good natured). He's got hipster written all over his medieval skinny jeans
Gwen: She's an animated movie queen. Upbeat, and happy. She could be a Disney princess and we all know it
Morgana: before she went grimdark, found family adventure. After, elevated horror. But I think she still would have a secret soft spot for movies she watched with Arthur or Gwen
Uther: John Wayne. Self explainatory
Gaius: classic hollywood and nature documentaries. Also self explainatory
Killgarah: 80s/90s high fantasy, but he would say that he doesn't watch movies bc he's a bitch
Gwaine: buddy comedies like the hangover or girls trip. Also he is a total 2000s teen clique movie guy. He has a good sense of humor but also kinda immature
Leon: look, I am so sorry to say this, but .. Leon is a Star Wars guy. He definitely has been Obi-Wan for at least one costume party. I know it's not a genre, but it is the truth
Elyan: Studio Ghibli. He's a passionate but sweet guy. Definitely gives me shonen protag vibes. Loves a a good found family. He and Gwen for sure watched My Neighbor Totoro over and over again as kids
Percival: Percy seems like he's just down to have a good time. Action Adventure. What else? Honestly.
Lancelot: Also Rom-coms. Same reason as Arthur. But I think he's much calmer about them. I also think he enjoys found family fantasy
Mordred: feel-good dramadies. He loves the catharsis of crying but doesn't want to walk from the experience sad.
Freya: Slashers. She thinks they're funny. 💖
