Can we just appreciate how good the background music of CQL is? I see almost no appreciation posts about this but gods if it isn't some of the best instrumentals I have heard...shoutouts to Ren Sheng Ruo Zhi Ru Chu Jian and Bu Hui for being by absolute favourites off the background music album (consolation going to An Xi here)!

Lin Hai as a composer too, I-- cannot stress how much appreciation he deserves. For his other works too, not just this album, but this album also works just so well for the show itself, for the strange combinations of emotions they make you feel. :)))

hey! Do you know of any good standard flute repertoire books for someone going into their first year of college? I need to start learning some solos and don’t know where to start….

I do, thank you for asking! I purchased these both in college at the recommendation of my professor and they both have a good variety of pieces.

Bel Canto Flute: The Rampal School (available here)

This is the book I've probably used the most since it contains solos, etudes, and just a bunch of insightful information about flute playing. It's divided up into chapters and the pieces in each chapter usually all focus on a common skill (ie scales, arpeggios, triplets, turnarounds, 3/4 time, etc). The one downside is it is strictly flute parts so if you need the piano part for a piece, you'll have to find it elsewhere (such as IMSLP).

The Flute Collection - Intermediate to Advanced Level (available here)

This book contains 10 pieces by 10 composers, includes full piano scores, and a CD with performances and piano accompaniment. It also includes a brief history of each piece and some information on each composer at the beginning of the book.

Those are the only books that I personally own and have used, but another collection my professor recommended was Flute Music by French Composers (available here). This specific version doesn't have any audio, but if you search the name on Flute World, they also have a version with internet audio access and a way to buy a CD that goes along with it.

sometimes i see a post going around that makes me think, wow my taste is really different from the general consensus "tumblr taste"

last concert of the year; how to train your dragon soundtrack ft. Actual Dragons

#music #personal #oh look who’s blogging #basically orchestra #(I HAVEN’T USED THAT TAG SINCE LIKE 2015 WTFFFF)#this was the last concert of the (academic) year and it was a bunch of the music societies getting together and performing for 15 mins each #and we (symphonia orchestra) closed the concert with the absolute banger of all bangers: how to train your dragon #we played it in the first semester and we had a running joke that to introduce it we’d have plush dragons on stage with us #and since it was the last concert we were all like ‘FUCK IT why not’#so we did our first two pieces and then gave closing remarks whilst I distributed the dragons #and we played the last piece with our dragons out #the bad boy pictured went in the bell of the bass clarinet it was great #technically it was my dragon and I play flute but the clarinetist’s dragon was too big to fit in the clarinet lol #n e wayzzz it was a great show and I was tearing right up towards the end of the piece lol #soz 2 every1 that followed me for fs hope u enjoy my QUALITY posts abt musical dragons too lmao #but what u DON’T know is that this blog was originally me music blogging so jokes on the rest of u teehee #yes this is lame no I do not care #original content

and, yeah, after that whole thing that was Molayne’s fight, the fight against Hau was a breeze. he did a cheeky little switch out off of Incineroar i wasn’t expecting, and i got some nice Refrigerate Hyper Beams off from Saurrow here, but it’s really obvious that this fight was more formalities than challenge.

honestly, this was also probably one of the more interesting mono-type runs i’ve had so far for that complex Molayne fight. the only other one i think actually comes close was against Mewtwo in Let’s Go Eevee, for that Poison run, and i was lucky enough to have Haze.

next year is the Dragon runs, and like this Ice run, X and Ultra Moon have some pretty significant overlap. as some of y’all might’ve guessed, i like having some type variety on my team, even if it is harder with monotypes. i also would rather minimize reusing ‘mons between runs in this format. so, i think it’s best if i trade in a couple pokemon for that one, i think it a bit better than using another legendary from the Ultra Wormholes again. Dragon has a few more options better than an Articuno on that front, after all.

in more immediate news, i intend to complete the national dex for pokemon Y soon! to continue precedent set a couple years back, this means a Smeargle run in that generation, with the obvious choice of X. i... well, in spite of it being in the middle of trying to use the last of all weapons of Splatoon 2, a run of Alpha Sapphire since i cleaned the cartridge out, Splatoon 3 being released soon, and possibly the new pokemon games, i want to sort of be a bit more active/vocal about how that run is doing, try and break the queue/scheduling only habits a bit.
