Flora and Fauna ~ the undead heart of winter ~ winter prompt list 2023
This year I went for a little bit a wild card, and didn’t choose an MCR theme for my prompt list. This is an attempt to make this more inclusive to a growing audience, but also a personal choice. For the longest time, I have always dreaded the coming of winter as a cold sign of dark nights and the death of world around me. I desperately awaited the arrival of spring. But this year I’ve tried to focus more on the things that are still alive, the evergreen parts of the world that live on through harsh conditions. Some plants thrive most in the bitter frost, and some creatures become king of the sleeping forests. So this year for the prompt list I wanted to hone in on that world and bring it all to you for this year’s winter prompt list.
Dont fear the dead

So About That Thedas Calls Teaser...
I am by no surprise a map fiend and have been combing over the map shown. First off it is tilted and squashed to heck cause of the really fun stylization which seems to be pulling inspiration from historical nautical maps as it has at least two sea bound center points.
Second, we have confirmation of:
Treviso, Antiva
Rivain
Weisshaupt, Anderfels
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are elements that suggest the following:
Merdaine, Anderfels: a location that holds the giant white sculpture of Andraste titled "Our Lady of the Anderfels", this is also near Weisshaupt.
Minrathous, Tevinter: which would make sense considering everything we've seen in previous concept work and through the short stories and anthology Tevinter Nights
Arlathan Forest, Tevinter: Same reasoning as above
Kal-Sharok: This one is a bit more tenious because as I mentioned in the first point the map is squashed and tilted so exact location is hard to figure out. Couple with the fact the structure is largely hidden in the fog of war. It could very much also be Andoral's Reach as that is the other known location in that area, but that is in Orlais so I have my doubts.
The following images are organized in order of mention:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last image shows the whole frame for Minrathous, Arlathan forest, and the mysterious southern fortress (Kal-Sharok?) I also wonder, given that the Thedas Herbology oversized mousepad shows two varieties of deep mushrooms we've only seen in a drawing in The World of Thedas Vol. 2; the bleeding russula and the blighted morel. I wonder if that further lends to the possibility that we will be venturing back into the Deep Roads.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm really hoping we get to see more than one place in each location outside Tevinter. Not only that, but I also hope we get to go to Antiva City, though not named it would be interesting to see the capital of Antiva as well as how the "crown" and crows are handling the fifth occupation of Treviso by what they perceive as the Qun and if the main body of the Qun is helping fight against the rebelling Antaam as we see suggested in Tevinter Night.
I do really love the map they've shared, the stylization definitely communicates a focus on certain locals and fades away the ones we don't need to even consider. The use of the fog of war also plays so well into that and the sea monster.
Unfortunately, it doesn't portray much in terms of climates/biomes. The Anderfels looks arid as it always has, but Antiva is even more un-informing than usual. The fact the map is essentially stylized cracking rock portrays little on if Antiva is an arid climate or not. Considering Treviso seems to have snow on the mountains, and pretty low on the peaks as well, I have questions considering the rough placement we've been suggested they are on the globe and the fact that Seheron and Par Vollen are tropical and Rivain has the hallmarks of the same with the crops they grow - bananas, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, rice, chickpeas, bell peppers, ect.
Very excited to get back into the world of Thedas again.

Liard River, BC
It flows south-east and east along the Alaska Highway, receiving the waters of Dease River, Kloye Creek, Trepanier Creek and Black Angus Creek. It continues east through the Dease Forest, where it receives the waters of the Hyland River south of Hyland River Provincial Park, then receives the Malcolm Creek, Tatisno Creek and Nustlo Creek. It flows along the Yukon border, where the Alaska Highway once again follows the Liard and receives the Cosh Creek, Contact Creek, Scoby Creek and Sandin Brook, then turns south around Mount Sandin, receiving water from Tsia Creek, Tsinitla Creek, Tatzille Creek and Leguil Creek. It turns eastwards along the northern margin of the Liard Plateau, where it receives the Kechika River near Skooks Landing, Niloil Creek from Niloil Lake and Coal River by Coal River. It continues east and south-east, south of Mount Reid, still followed by the Alaska Highway, receiving the waters of Geddes Creek, Grant Creek, Smith River, Lapie Creek, Teeter Creek, Mould Creek and Hoole Creek.
It enters the Liard River Hot Springs Provincial Park, where the Trout River empties into the Liard. Alaska Highway runs south along the Trout River, while the Liard flows east through the Liard River Corridor Provincial Park and Protected Area, south of the Sentinel Range of the Muskwa Ranges, receiving the waters of Deer River and Canyon Creek in the Grand Canyon of the Liard. It continues south-east between the Barricade Range and Mount Rothenberg of the Sentinel Range, where the Moule Creek and Sulphur Creek flow in the Liard. It flows east, out of the Northern Rockies and through the foothills, where it receives waters from the Brimstone Creek, Crusty Creek, Grayling River, Graybank Creek and Toad River. It turns north-west, receiving the waters from Garbutt Creek, Lepine Creek, Chimney Creek, Ruthie Creek, Scatter River and Beaver River. It then turns south-east, receives the waters from Catkin Creek, Dunedin River and Fort Nelson River. From here it turns north, receiving the waters of Zus Creek, Sandy Creek and La Biche River and crosses into the Northwest Territories, immediately east of the Yukon border.

Since there're complaints that using a Seven Dwarfs analog for Asha’s friend group reduced them to props because there isn't enough screen time to develop all of them, would three friends based on the Three Good Fairies have worked better?
Dahlia is based on Doc, but she works as a Flora analog too as a matronly figure in red who has the ideas and tries to keep order. She just needs a ditzy sweetheart in green and an aggressive pessimist in blue (fulfilling Gabo’s role, I guess) to mediate. As for their names, the themes are right there: One named after a plant (also applies to Dahlia), one named after an animal, and the last named after something in the sky.
And before anyone complains about too many girls, all three don't have to be girls. Make the Fauna and the Merryweather male, then you have an equal gender balance with Asha and Dahlia.

In The Wilderness - Kate Riley/Heather Gummer
A/N: Week 3's prompt: Flora And Fauna for @yeehawgust . A little more @thetremorssaga for you all.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heather would never really admit it, but when she first met Kate the first thing she noticed was the care the woman took with the local flora and fauna, a true scientist, trying not to disturb the land she was on. She’d been mesmerized ever since she watched the woman feeding El Blanco. Kate was still up on the same rock she had first fed the worm from, the landing echoes as she throws the bone-stuffed chicken down into the sandy ground, smirking just a little when Blanco’s wormy tongue pokes up from the ground, a grudging grumble escaping. “You’re welcome Buddy…” Kate’s smile is real and soft and despite knowing the creature could kill them both as easy as anything, Heather can’t help loving the careful respect Kate pays the other animal, a strange fixture of their life in Perfection, but Kate has always been trusting with the Graboid and, it seems, El Blanco is starting to repay that respect.

International Rabbit Day
International Rabbit Day is celebrated on September 23 of this year. A day for the rabbits or bunnies as to bring awareness about the plight they are facing. Rabbits are the long-eared, short-tailed mammal with fluffy soft hair which is not only pets but are killed for various other reasons. The International Rabbit Day is observed as to promote, protect and care for the rabbits both the domestic and wild.
“The raccoons, foxes, beavers, chinchillas, minks, rabbits, and yes, sometimes even dogs and cats that are killed for fur are not very different from your beloved dog or cat. They all have eyes, ears, and hearts. They all experience pain when they are physically maimed. They shake with fear when they experience terror.” – Jane Velez-Mitchell
History of International Rabbit Day
International Rabbit Day was founded by The Rabbit Charity from the UK in the year 1998. The day will usually be observed on the fourth Saturday or Sunday in the month of September. The aim of the Charity is to protect abandoned or unwanted rabbits and provide them with permanent shelters. Celebrating the day for bunnies will promote and educate all sort of people about the threats faced by them. Rabbits can be kept as a pet as they will be a good companionship to the humans. Rabbits are usually referred as a symbol of fertility or rebirth. They have long been related to the spring and Easter as the Easter Bunny. The habitat of rabbits includes grasslands, meadows, woods, deserts, and wetlands. Rabbits usually live in groups, and the European rabbits are the best-known species. They live in the underground burrows, or in the rabbit holes. More than half of the world’s rabbit population lives in the North America. Most often people think that rabbits are quiet and reserved pets, but any rabbit parent will tell you that the pet rabbits have a lot of personalities and offer lots of companionships. When rabbits are happy, then they will jump and twist which is called as the binky. Bunnies are very expressive and sensitive mammals that do all kinds of quirky and endearing behavior. On the other side, rabbits are harmed for medical and cosmetic testing, hunting, eating, fur farming and, casseroling. Thus, International Rabbit Day aims in providing some awareness about this charming little bunnies.
How to Celebrate International Rabbit Day
The best way to celebrate International Rabbit Day is you can adopt a bunny if hadn’t owned one. If you already have a bunny, then take some extra time to spend with those lovable pets. Bring awareness to the people near you about the plight of the rabbits.
