Happy Valentine's Day! (and this blog's first post anniversary!)

Post war clones living in apartments and such, one day some group of shinies (they will forever be shinies because they were some of the ones that never went to war they are designated vod’ika forever lol also fix the fast aging issue kk) is sitting in an apartment hanging out watching movies or something when someone knocks on their door. They open it up to a crying woman and they’re all ‘Omfg’ and she asks them to take care of something in her apartment because she’s scared. These vod’ike who have never gone to war are ready for this. They can handle this. If their ori’vod could punch droids and snub their noses at Sith, they can handle a domestic dispute for a neighbor.

It’s a spider. She’s scared of spiders and was trying to relax when she found one above her bed. They dispatch the intruder and comfort her with awkward shoulder pats and telling her she’s brave for asking for help.

They have finally done it. They found a vod’ika who’s more vod’ika than them. They’re keeping her. Does she know how to use the instant pot? It keeps scaring them into changing dinner plans. She can help with that.

“I felt like the frustration I kind of put aside for today. I let that go last night. I didn’t end up breaking anything. I felt like some objects were gonna get smashed up after qualifying. Maybe there’s a bit of calm with age …”

My hottest take of all time is that Mike is (was) the main character of Stranger Things.

Now, do I think he still is? No. Not really.

TBH I would argue that ALL the OG's are main characters in their own way at this point, with them all getting somewhat similar amounts of screen-time across the board by s4.

But if we're talking about the first two seasons, Finn was indeed credited before both Millie and Noah. The only actors that were credited before him were Winona and David (respectfully).

Just rewatching s1-2, you can see very clearly that Mike is being framed as the main character, with his perspective being favored in big group sequences, with us following him places that we don't really follow others, and for longer periods of time.

What I find interesting, is that even though Noah revealed recently that the Duffer's have been slowly building up/hinting at Will's feelings for Mike since the beginning, it's Mike whose perspective we were usually seeing in all those moments.

In s1, we see Mike looking for Will, with Noah only having like a handful of scenes that entire season. We also get more of a focus on Mike's reactions in comparison to the other party members.

In s2, we see Mike making every effort to support Will all season. It's Mike whose reaching out to Will constantly, calling to see why he's not at school, going by his house, sleeping over for days and staying by his bedside at Hawkins lab. Although Will arguably plays a bigger role in the upside down aspect of the show this season, a large portion of Mike and Will moments focused on Mike's feelings for Will being shared through Mike's POV, and not so much the other way around.

It isn't until s3 that Millie starts being credited before Finn (and respectfully so, as she was arguably bringing in more hype in terms of fandom excitement back in those days, so I do get it). And so we're arguably going from Mike centric (s1), to Will centric (s2), to El centric (s3).

As a result, we also started seeing less of Mike's POV. Though, to be fair there are 10+ new characters joining every season, so EVERYONE is getting less screen-time, every season.

But isn't it so convenient, that when we start getting less insight into Mike's POV, he starts acting strange...? And we don't really get outright answers as to why? Answers that we would probably have if we had Mike's POV as much as we used to?

S3 is when we started getting Will's POV more when it came to him and Mike's relationship. Their dynamic sort of flips between s1-2 vs. s3-4.

Not to say we never get Mike's POV anymore, but when we do, it's hard to discern and so most people overlook it completely on the rare occasion that it does pop up.

Anyways, this whole concept reminded me of the main character shots we got at the end of s4.

These were shots that had multiple characters in the frame, but with only (1) person specifically at the forefront...

YALL KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS???

Arguably, these three main characters storyline's are tied together in a substantial way, and how it all plays out could have been foreshadowed, by the very order and even blocking of these shots.

Think about it.!?!.

Mike was arguably the main character of s1, which means getting his POV at the forefront again would be going back to the shows roots.

Will is arguably the main character of s2, and so blending Mike's arc (ending with Mike hugging Hopper hmmmmmm... Mike accepting his sexuality??) with Will's unreliable narrator arc being resolved (ending with Will and Mike side by side hmmmmmmm... Will getting the boy??), and this combined with Will's connection to the upside down, blending perfectly with his wonder twin, El's storyline (El walking passed Mike and Will.... El dumping his ass again??), with her now at the forefront as the main character, arguably just like in s3, except now she has full autonomy for the first time in the show, she knows her worth, she's accepted herself. And this all coming to a head with those three and everyone in the shows arcs being resolved by the end??

kylar having separation anxiety is so true. also he is CONSTANTLY kneading your thighs/breasts. would scratch and hiss at people who get too close to you. panics and YOWLS at the top of his lungs whenever you leave the house. your bathroom door has deep scratches all over it bc you lock him out of there when you shower (he wants IN). whitney is the type of cat boy to ruin your furniture because he wants to be a dick. definitely bites the life out of you if you try to pet him unannounced. knocks glasses off of the counter. escapes and roams the streets no matter how many locks you put on the windows and front door. he does suck up to you after you come home from work/school, licks your head bc he says your hair looks shitty (his words not mine) and insists on sleeping with you at night because you'll fall out of bed or something (he just wants cuddles) sydney would be a lap cat... a sweetie that blinks up at you 24/7 to show you how much they appreciate you. bakes in the sunshine. it's honestly kind of funny to look at because he's a whole ass human with cat ears and a tail sprawled out on your carpet. stares at you a lot. purrs very softly and wraps his tail around your legs if you're standing by him. robin is the best behaved of all the cat hybrids. worst thing he does is sneak into your bed at night. i think cat hybrid robin x pc with allergies would be cute. i don't know why. purrs very loudly and as he gets more confident he claims your thighs as his head-space. is always resting on them whenever he can. is conscious of his claws, only kneads pillows and blankets, not your good furniture (WHITNEY!!)

I've been thinking a lot about art and why it doesn't feel good anymore, and a lot of what I keep coming back to is a) simply not being happy with my style, but b) not feeling comfortable experimenting because I feel like I need things to be """post worthy""" 🙄 so like... it's kind of a vicious cycle lmao so I'm heeding the advice I used to give people trying to overcome perfectionism which was "don't worry about making things that are 'good enough' to post and just post everything."

So... some vague style experimenting 🤷‍♂️ and also a sketch of Ilya from forever ago that I really liked but kept thinking I would come back and do more with.

I just like the fact that Simon apparently has about a million of the exact same polaroid of Betty smiling at the camera. This man must have told her to hold still and keep that smile on her face for like 2 hours as he just snapped shot after shot so he could guarantee that he'd always have her by his side (and also always be able to make rituals ifg HFGDHS)

i find it funny but also kind of annoying when writers clearly don’t know how cooking works or haven’t bothered to look up the recipe of whatever food they’re referencing. so many times i’ve read a fic where jiang yanli makes a “vegetarian version” of the lotus and pork rib soup for lan wangji or makes the soup within a few hours (sometimes even only an hour!) which are all pretty much impossible feats.

the soup is made by boiling the pork ribs for LITERAL HOURS (i’m not joking. the soup is best when it’s been simmering for 12 hours at least) alongside the lotus root, aromatics, goji berries, ginger, etc. the reason the soup has any flavor at all is the pork ribs; without those, it would just be water with stuff floating in it. now, if the vegetarian version is just the soup without the pork then that’s one thing, but then does that count as vegetarian since the broth is meat based? i’m not sure what constitutes as vegetarian for the Lans; do bone broths count as eating meat? if they do, no wonder all the food in Cloud Recesses sucks so hard.

anyways, fic writers: before making offhand comments about food, look up the recipe and see how it’s made. food is deeply cultural and significant, both the product and the act of making it. jiang yanli’s soup is so important because it is a labor of love that takes time and effort to make, especially if she is making it from scratch by herself as we are led to assume. by reducing it to something that can be accommodated for other characters or something easier than it really is, you are inadvertently diminishing yanli’s act of love.

I was talking to a friend about Lockwood & Co, she hasn’t watched or read it, but she noticed I have been tweeting about it. I vaguely explained to her the whole situation of it being cancelled plus the campaign to save it and she seemed really surprised that it was cancelled. According to her, she’s constantly seeing TikToks about it and the trending hashtags on twitter (day 68 today guys), so she’s like completely sure that the campaign is getting enough attention for it to get picked up again.

Idk, I think hearing an outsiders perspective really encouraged me, so I thought I’d share it here too.

The new trailer has injected hype straight into my veins (rip everyone who is tired of Varric narrating trailers feat. Solas, but I'm a sucker for both) and the art is just gorgeous as always so I took screencaps - figured I'd share in case anyone else wanted them!

On a more serious note, if you’re celebrating any holidays this year i hope you have been or will get through them as peacefully as possible, i hope you find some joy in them even if there are messy elements, i hope you end the year uneventfully if you don’t celebrate anything, i hope you all are sleeping well and taking breaks, i hope you take time to give yourself the rest and kindness you deserve.
