Do you ever think about the evolution of the Beifong family?
When we first meet them, they are introduced as a rich family, universally known for their wealth and nothing else.
And then, in LoK, we see a family of skilled benders, architects, artists, founders and defenders of a technologically advanced city, all of whom are freaking awesome.
And of course this change wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for Toph.

I cannot get over what a people-pleaser zuko is at heart. that boy did NOT want to go on that date with jin!! he ONLY went on that date because iroh wanted him to go and zuko wanted to make his uncle happy!!
listen to me. EVERYTHING about that date was zuko trying to make iroh happy. zuko went on the date (he did not want to go on the date). zuko wore the fancy earth kingdom clothes that he CLEARLY did not feel comfortable in and had not picked out for himself (he did not want to wear the fancy earth kingdom clothes). zuko allowed iroh to style his hair WITH HAIR GEL (he did not like the hair gel) and sat still for TEN WHOLE MINUTES until iroh was satisfied with his look (he did not want to sit still).
and he went on the date (he did not want to go on the date). zuko ate the noodles (he did not like the noodles) and tried his hardest to make small talk (he did not want to make small talk). and then. during the course of the date that wasn't his idea and that he didn’t want to go on. zuko firebends lights up the lanterns at the fountain, just to make jin smile, because she was sad and he couldn’t stand to see her unhappy.
and then he came home and told iroh the date was nice (it was not nice). because he knew that saying so would please iroh (he wants to make iroh happy.)
zuko wants to be a good boy SO BADLY!! and that’s what makes his attempts to please ozai so tragic. he can never make his father happy; zuko is destined to always fall short for the simple reason that there is nothing zuko can do that will ever please ozai.
and meanwhile, iroh is so ready to be thrilled and appreciative of every tiny little half-hearted step zuko makes in his direction, but what iroh really wants is for zuko to find a happiness that's his own choice, not just whatever he thinks will make iroh happy with him.
and zuko just doesn't get it; he's so often frustrated because he can't figure out what iroh wants from him. so instead he steals pastries and golden tea pots and he eats the congee with a smile and sweeps the floors and serves the tea and goes on the date and does whatever he thinks iroh will approve of, in order to earn iroh's affection (he's never had to earn it) (he's never understood that).

Alone Time 🌿🎑
Team Avatar had been travelling through the Earth Kingdom for weeks, in search of adventure. Zuko and Sokka had faced many challenges together, and now they walked through the dense forest, feeling a sense of peace wash over them finally. As they hiked, they approached a small stream flowing through the woods, and they let themselves be guided by the dancing leaves that raced ahead of them until they stumbled upon a secluded hot spring nestled among the trees.
The steam rose around them, and they shared a knowing smile before slowly undressing weeks of adventure, their soft gazes never leaving each other.
The warmth of the water embraced them, and they felt their bodies relax with each other's soothing touch. Sokka reached out and tenderly ran his fingers through Zuko's ebony hair, feeling the warmth of the spring mingling with the heat of their exposed intimacy like fuel to a fire. Zuko leaned into the gentle touch, his eyes closing briefly as he savoured the closeness of the moment and allowed himself to sink. They moved closer together, their bodies fitting perfectly, sharing soft, slow kisses, the water embracing them like a cocoon of love.
They bided their time,
In the quiet of the forest, surrounded only by the beauty of nature, Zuko and Sokka let go of the worries of the world, basking in the simple joy of being alone together. With each touch and whispered word, their connection deepened, binding them together in a love that transcended time and space. As they lost themselves in each other's embrace, they knew that at this moment, they were exactly where they wanted to be – together.
The sound of the forest and the gentle touch of the water made them feel like they were in a world of their own, where nothing else mattered. “Hey, Zuko,” Suki called, looking down from her lifeguard chair. “Looks like the guy is drowning again.”
“Well, it's your turn, isn't it?” Zuko replied.
“Yup, that's right,” Suki confirmed before jumping in the pool.
Zuko thought he knew what he signed up for; the job of a pool lifeguard obviously included saving idiots who can't swim. But what Zuko hadn't expected was that they would be saving the same idiot over and over. Not that he was complaining, though; the guy was actually gorgeous. Zuko caught himself watching with jealousy as Suki wrapped her arms around him and pulled him towards the edge.
Well, we agreed to take turns for a reason, Zuko reminded himself. He forced himself to look away and went to grab some towels for Suki and the guy. Strangely enough, they still didn't know his name despite saving him so many times.
“Are you ok?” he asked, helping the boy climb out of the pool.
“Yeah, I think so,” the boy replied.
Zuko grabbed the towel and wrapped it around the boy's shoulders.
“Thank you, guys,” the boy spoke, smiling softly at them. Zuko had never seen a prettier smile, not to mention the deep blue eyes...
“No need to thank us,” Suki replied. “We're just doing our job.”
“No, seriously,” the boy insisted. “Thank you for being so patient with me. I must be driving you crazy at this point.”
Zuko and Suki exchanged quick looks. That guy was right, he sure was driving them crazy... just not in the way that he thought.
“It's fine, really,” Zuko assured. “But just let me ask, out of curiosity... why do you keep coming here even though you know what's gonna happen?”
“Well, I'm just... trying to learn to swim?” the boy replied, laughing nervously.
Suki and Zuko exchanged looks again. Zuko could tell they were both thinking the same thing: his ass is not trying to learn to swim. Perhaps someone was a little bit too used to getting attention from a certain couple of lifeguards?
“Seems to me like you could use some swimming lessons,” Suki claimed. “Luckily for you, you're just in the right hands, am I right, Zuko?”
“Uh, yeah, of course,” Zuko replied.
“Just give us your number and we'll get in touch,” Suki said and winked.
“Sure thing,” the boy replied, winking back at her. “I'm Sokka by the way.”
