Swarm Disaster lore speculation
I'm sure people have their theories, but i haven't read enough so i'm gonna dump some of my own
Tumblr media
So this right here is definitely referring to Terminus. He's the only one whose words would "play in reverse". From the context of the story, the conqueror or Lepismat took that prophecy as one about himself, and saw it as a sign to "establish civilization" on worlds he conquers. Enter the Lepismat system.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We're told in other lore snippets that it's a lively world with a flourishing ecosystem and a target for many bounty hunters. Supposedly, it's also home to the Coleoptera, one of the world's many insect species. The "leader" (conqueror of Lepismat) is confirmed to have interpreted Terminus's prophecy as something he must fulfill, which we see described as "nightmarish visions".
Tumblr media
We also then learn that he fails, and blames the prophecy as fake.
Now this is gonna sound wild, but what if the prophecy wasn't about him at all? Terminus's prophecies must be fulfilled because Terminus travels backwards in time. They only "fail" under the condition that they're misinterpreted, which I think the conqueror of Lepismat did. The prophecy, from what we see, only has three criteria: establishing civilization, conquering planets (yes, multiple!), and "finding a lost self". Regarding that third part, what if...
Tumblr media
What if the prophecy was referring to Tayzzyronth? He (it?) meets all those criteria. Conquering planets and establishing "civilization" was what the Swarm did, according to itself. Herta calls Tayzzyronth stupid and mindless in her archives, but it definitely has some intelligence to it (ex. the Mind of the Domain events in Swarm Disaster). Just because Tayzzyronth didn't make complex plans to propagate doesn't mean it wasn't capable of doing so. The Swarm seems to have some structure to it, and depending on the interpretation, could certainly be applied to Terminus's prophecy of "civilization". More importantly, finding the "lost self" seems to be what ultimately drove Tayzzyronth to Aeonhood, as its motivations were to never be lonely again (and hatred against the universe that had taken away its species)
There also seems to be further evidence of Terminus's involvement with Tayzzyronth's ascension:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finality is Terminus. Order is Ena, one of the Aeons who fought against Tayzzyronth along with Qlipoth, Akivili, and a few others. More importantly, Ena is assimilated by Xipe the Harmony not too long after Tayzzyronth's fall (because we meet Xipe in some chapters of Swarm Disaster). This leaves a fairly small window for Terminus (Finality) and Ena (Order) to "brush past each other".
The "suns" being associated with Order vanishing during the Swarm Disaster and returning after Tayzzyronth's fall also hint towards the two of them being related (eventwise), which is where Terminus would've been involved.
TL;DR Terminus's prophecies must be fulfilled in some form. Lepismat system conqueror learns of a prophecy and misinterprets it, which is fated to happen because it must be misinterpreted to be fulfilled. His misinterpretation leads him to conquer the Lepismat system and destroy the Coleoptera, which in turn leads to Tayzzyronth's ascension (and thus fulfilling the prophecy).
P.S. if you made it here, congrats! I have no clue how many people will actually read this long textwall with images of more textwalls lmao

Closure
So some years back I started reading a little comic made during the height of Undertale mania. tailing off on a (to me) wild headcanon. It was a sad and heavy story in many ways, looked like it was going to get heavier and sadder. That's the kind of thing I often gravitate to. That said, a lot happened really fast in my life and I kind of forgot about it. in that ADHD "oh right I should check in on that, Never does" sort of way.
Well I got to thinking about undertale again, amusingly because of another fandom entirely where someone is writing a story that touched on themes adjacent.
So, having started using Tumblr again I went back to find the comic was finished.
Isn't that a thing?
How often does something get really, conclusively, Finished in this day and age? I can seldom remember it happening in any of the kind of things I watch, people get bored, or go silent, or wander off, but Finish?
So I read it, picked up right near where I left off and read it all. It got heavy and dark, but the light slipped back in, and then got brighter and brighter to end in a dreary, cold, rainy, grey. On a note of finality. Not happy, or sad, but ambiguous.
It was perfect. no notes.
remembering Undertale hurt so much in ways I thought I'd remembered wrong, it was a formative game for me in a few powerful ways. focused always on agency, and choice, or the lack thereof.
a shockingly heavy condemnation of mining something for every last secret, picking everything apart to squeeze the last drops out of it.
I never saw the genocide ending, I knew it existed, but I didn't want to do that. couldn't even. I'm sure if I kept at it I could have beaten it all. But...
There's a philosophical question here, an important one. It might seem a little trite, and maybe it is, but all the same. What is the difference between a character in a game and a "real" person?
"It's just ones and zeroes bro, you're overthinking it!"
Am I? how easy is it to do terrible things when you choose to see people not as whole but as a simple caricature? ones and zeroes. NPCs.
I finished Undertale twice, exactly. I got to the end and was furious there was a whole one person I couldn't save (a game where nobody has to die? sold). so I heard you can. And I did. and when I did, when I stepped into that sunshine and watched these people who live on my screen get what they wanted, dreamed of. I knew that was it.
Even now, filled with nostalgia and a little lingering pain I can't imagine hitting that "New Game" button, because then I'd have stolen it all away. If you're willing to believe that it was real then I'd have stolen nearly a decade from them, and trapped them back under that mountain. Because I couldn't let go.
Are they happy? Did terrible things happen? It's out of my hands, beyond me. It's not my story anymore.
Finality is a beautiful thing.

- RADIANCE ETERNAL -
- Act I, Chapter 0: Beginnings -
Like all things, everything began with nothing.
An endless void, chaotic and misshapen.
Left alone forever, to writhe in agony.
Until it arrived.
A being came into existence, shining with a blinding power. It spread its endless wings, unleashing a wave of energy across the unborn cosmos. The chaos stopped, the sea of unfinished stars calmed, and nothing became everything.
The first realm was a plain that stretched on forever, littered with small forests on the ground and floating islands in the sky. At the center of all of this was the blinding force that had caused the birth of this world. Around it, something else began to rise up... creatures. Winged beings that were the byproduct of the blinding one's unleash of power. Not knowing any better, they worshipped the heavenly fountain of energy that had generated this plain.
They called it: Eternity, the First Lightwing.
Eternity watched over the blooming Lightwings benevolently, acting as a source of hope and guidance to them. The species began to evolve. Building shelters in the forests, using their wings to travel the skies, and honing the powers that were left to them by Eternity.
There were six core forces that held all existence together: Light, Darkness, Time, Space, Creation, and Destruction. They were equals, one element could not overpower the other on its own. Eternity chose six Lightwings to step up and ascend to a higher power, to become the harbingers of these elements.
The Lightwings known as Oricroi, Dhymmos, Reaver, Exodus, Solargenesis, and Finality were chosen, together becoming the Guardians of Eternity. Along with their master, they would watch over and defend their homeworld from any threats. They developed a bond with each other, becoming almost like siblings to each other. They were inseparable.
Peace reigned in the Lightwing's homeworld for ages, but like all things, it would not last forever.
Eternity had seen this world grow from nothing, but it was... unsatisfied. It viewed this world, and all worlds, as imperfect. Imperfections on what once was a perfect reality. And if it continued, it would be irreversible. Eternity knew what it had to do.
The heavenly force that once watched over the Lightwing's homeworld had spread its wings once again, ready to bring an end to all that existed, including those that worshipped it. Eternity's guardians tried to reason with it, but there was nothing to be reasoned with.
As their homeworld collapsed around them, the Guardians attempted to save as many Lightwings as they could. Those that managed to escape were scattered across the dimensions. But before the Guardians escaped, they used the last of Eternity's power that lied within them to seal their former master away in their collapsing homeworld.
As the Guardians made their escape, Solargenesis and Finality were separated from the others, landing in another dimension. Oricroi, Dhymmos, Reaver, and Exodus would crash-land elsewhere. As they made a small camp for themselves, they lamented their old home's destruction, and those that were lost in the chaos.
Still, they moved on. The Guardians of Eternity, now lost in a new world, took a new oath:
To protect this plane of existence, and prevent its downfall, unlike how they did for their home.
(And that was the intro to everything! I still have a lot to write, since there's gonna be around FIVE ACTS TOTAL, but I'm still proud of this as a start! And I hope everyone reading it likes it too!)

Announcement
So as you may already know, today I uploaded what would be the final Gardubious in the collection....
....or is it? See, Gardubious always had a bit of a troubled history, and has sat on dubious (haha) legal grounds, so I decided that today I would run through the last of my backlog, and then see if I wanted to make more... and I decided the best answer was "maybe". "Maybe" I would make more, after all, the Gardubious project is a product of human nature, and human nature is fickle. And by no means do I want you to leave or forget. That's right! I want you to STAY, (and I'll give you a biscuit if I have to), because Gardubious may (Read: very likely) return soon. And I'm not taking a break either, it'll either be that I upload a new Gardubious to-morrow, or I give up on the idea for an indeterminate amount of time. Either way, I will make up my mind to-morrow. Stay tuned, because there is a HIGH LIKELYHOOD of Gardubious continuing to exist. And some of the factors are outside of my control, things like rights issues and schedule clashes. Because after all, I am a real person, and Gardubious very much exists in the real world too, and not only that, it exists as a derivative work, I.E not in a vacuum. Anyways, I will tell you more later. Thank you for lending me your time and allowing me a somewhat rambling heart-to-heart.
