Invincible (Remastered...again)

I got a new printer for Christmas last year, giving me the ability to print my own Poster sized images. While converting some of my old art to be the correct aspect ratio for the paper, I also took the liberty of updating the shading on a few pieces to better match my current standard of quality. This is is one of the those "HD Remasters".

This is actually the 2nd time I've remastered this piece. The Original (2014) Version of this piece was Part 2 of an art series centered around Chiin Ferno and Cody Flameclaw.

The 2nd Version (2015) of this piece was an update I made for my CMPA class in college. It only features some minor color tweaks, as we were learning about how to use Adjustment Layers in Photoshop.

Following the death of Cody Farplane in Chiin's universe, an alternate version of Cody appeared through a dimensional portal with the goal of stopping the Sinitaur from his world from destroying Chiin's world and every other world he could find. Chiin and Cody would team up on an adventure to stop him, becoming close friends in the process.

AKA the AU where Buck is an Aphrodite kid, Eddie is definitely a demigod (with no clue who his godly parent is), and the Fates are weaving a web more complex than anyone can imagine.

So far his meetings with the senator had been peaceful, if not overly polite. The sharp crack of the slap that impacted his cheek and jaw felt deafening to her - the pain of it in her palm and fingers leapt like fire through her skin, cheeks hot and flush with the anger that she'd been struggling to stifle throughout this conversation and so many others in the last months that she had been forced to play the part of the bereft widow who should somehow feel obliged to be grateful that the man that had taken her husband from her had seen fit to spare her and her children from his wrath. Her hands settled in front of her, mimicking the genteel affect he had mocked her with even as he spouted his vitriol and she remained ramrod straight, refusing to flinch or cower in the face of his potential retaliation for the slap.

"You would do well to remember to whom you are speaking, Lord Fenros, and in whose halls you stand. I am a member of the ruling Senate and servant of the Dark Council, the blood of this Empire runs in my veins and has been spilled from them for its' righteous purpose." Okay, okay, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS. Those lightning scars look like the roots of a plant - or even just a tree. Trees have so much symbolism omg. Family, life, growth, prosperity, wisdom - we use trees to describe or symbolize all these things. But, let’s take this a step further: roots are often symbolic of stability and nourishment.

Of all the characters to have a scar like this, it’s Buck, and I find that fascinating. Here’s why: - Buck is the youngest member of the 118 by far - Buck’s the character with the most unstable history. He’s floated all over the world, looking to find meaning, and the one thing that “rooted” him in place was being a firefighter and the family he’s made at the 118. Now, that same thing that’s rooted him has caused THIS SCAR! - Buck is still, throughout this season, very wobbly. He’s making odd decisions (sperm donor arc), looking for fulfillment, trying to say yes to everything and be open to new experiences... He’s unmoored. Uprooted. - In a thunderstorm, trees are highly likely to get hit by lightning. Especially Poplar trees because they grow very tall and thin. Poplar trees represent: “the connection to "the Other World", to the cyclical life of souls, it is the tree of melancholy and the memory of the dead... Moreover, for the druids, the poplar tree symbolized the old age of man due to its white leaves.” (from Ecotree.com). Isn’t it so fascinating? A huge part of Buck’s character - especially post S3 - is Daniel’s death and how it affected his life. I’m sure this is all purely coincidental but isn’t it incredible? - A lot of fans consider Buck to be the heart of the family that the 118 has created, and part of me agrees with that. For these scars to show up on his body in this way, I can’t help but see the symbolism here of Buck, the tallest tree in this ecosystem, getting hit by lightning - and then getting these root-like scars? That just... UGH I’m at a loss for words.
