Chapter One- When Edith Met Michael

A/n hello everyone, welcome to chapter one of my series. I don't consider myself a great writer but I hope you enjoy this series I have planned. I kinda have no clue what I'm doing really and any tips and tricks would be very helpful. All I know is that I'm excited to discover the relationship between Edith and Michael.

Also apologies for this chapter being kind of short. I just wanted to establish the breakup between Felix and Edith and have her meet Michael. It will get more interesting

“You’re breaking up with me?!?” Edith can’t believe what she’s hearing

… Well maybe she can a little bit but it doesn’t mean she thought this would really happen.

“Umm…Ed… yeah. You know we’re both going to uni in two weeks.”

“Felix Catton don’t you fucking bullshit me. you and I are both going to Oxford.”

”Okay umm…” Felix brings his hand to rub his chin. “ it’s just that this whole past year I’ve been so great and understanding about your boundaries regarding sex but I thought by now we’d have already done it though. I don't think it’s going to work.”

Through breathy laughter Edith can’t help containing her anger “Wait- So what you’re telling me is that you are done with me because I'm not ready to have sex and you’re horny ?!?!”

“That's pretty much the case, yeah.”

”You know what Felix Catton, I can't believe I thought you would ever be understanding.” Edith starts, heels turning to walk away so he couldn’t see the tears whining to spill. “You fucking suck and fuck you!!!!”

“What a fucking asshole,” Edith mutters under her breath peering out the window of her room. She shakes her head looking at a completely okay looking Felix Catton chatting and laughing with other popular rich kids who some Edith use to call “friends” .

The term “friends” would frankly be a loose term for Edith because they were more of people she hung out with because she was dating Felix, they weren’t true friends. she’s never exactly had a true friend.

Eddie knows he doesn’t deserve anymore of her feelings towards him but it’s hard. All she wants to do is scream and cry, telling Felix that he’s so pathetic.

Edith knows she can’t, all those other girls would come right after her, saying she’s jealous and desperate. how could he just break her heart and be completely okay? He’s most likely even moved on already.

Taking her eyes off from her ex, Edith flops onto her bed with a groan. All she wishes to do for the rest of the day is sit on her bed and read her book, draw in her sketchbook and maybe play her guitar. She’s aware though that she has to go to the dining hall tonight. Edith hasn’t been able to eat all day as she’s been moving in.

The idea of having to potentially sit near a perfectly fine Felix makes her want to gouge her eyes.

It's also her luck though that she’ll be stuck with some maths loser who forces you to answer sums, showing off how smart they are. If she were to compare the two she would take the maths loser but still not ideal.

Completely done with reality, Edith grabs her ipod, headphones and sketchbook off her nightstand and drowns out the world with music and drawing until she has to leave her room.

This is just great. I don't have to sit next to Felix but I also can’t find a seat in the first place. Edith can’t help but comment in her head, walking the dining hall in hopes of a spot to sit.

In a way she did luck out but she doesn’t know where to sit. That thankfully for Edith isn’t long lasting as she finds an open seat next to a boy with dirty blonde hair and glasses. Not thinking to whom she might have to converse with, she quickly walks over and sits down desperate to begin eating.

As she's eating, Edith can't help but feel uneasy and like someone to the right is staring into her soul through her ear. She looks up to the right and piercing blue eyes fill her vision. she whispers an awkward hi and smiles at the very strange boy and he in return moves his eyes down to her messenger bag.

Edith’s bag is decorated with little doodles that draws on it when she’s bored. The boy quickly turns his head away from muttering something under his breath that Edith didn’t pick up on but knew couldn’t have been nice.

What an ass.

The feeling of uneasy and bitterness doesn’t die the more she sits next to this guy. It was also not exactly possible to find a new seat either as the only other open seat was across from him and somehow for Edith that would be even worse. She feels bad for whoever would be sitting across from him

Like the universe reading her mind, another boy around her age with dark brown hair and glasses, who after struggling to find a place in the dining, eventually seats himself, somewhat reluctantly. right across from the strange boy.

The two boys stare at each other in silence for a few minutes, the brown-haired boy also clearly uneasy like Edith. it was the other boy who reach his hand out though to the brunet to introduce himself and Edith finally learned this strange boy’s name

”Hi I’m Michael Gavey”

The other boy accepts Michaels outreached hand and Edith learns his name is Oliver Quick. The boy begins to converse with one another. The last thing she got by fully eavesdropping was Michael asking Oliver if he was also a Norman no-mate too.

Not really interested, Edith turns her attention back to her half empty plate. the quicker she finishes the faster she can leave and not have to be in the presence of this Michael Gavey.

Even with half eavesdropping and half ignoring the two. Edith slightly laughs to herself as Michael tells Oliver even though he doesn’t like math, he is some math genius and to ask him a sum. Oliver clearly uncomfortable and telling Michael he’s fine and that he doesn’t need to ask him a sum

Edith though couldn’t expect was was to come out of a now agitated Michael.

“ WELL ASK ME A FUCKING SUM THEN!!!”

Jesus fucking christ Edith curses to herself while the whole dining hall quiets at the sudden intrusion of loudness. Among the same surprise, She is also intrigued and she smirks knowing something that would give her a little happiness asking Michael.

Before Oliver could clear the embarrassment he's feeling at Michael's sudden outburst, Edith interrupts. “What's 34+35?”

The attention of the boys are turned on to Edith as she smiles as Michael answers but then realizing what sum she asked, face turns to annoyance at the question, clearly knowing she is taking the mick out of him.

“Haha, very funny….” Michael’s voice trails waiting for a name

“Edith Pemberton and you said to ask a sum”

“Well Edith Pemberton i don't think I was talking to you Ms.” I'm wasting my money on an vapid arts degree”

“How fuck do you know what I'm learning.”

“Lucky guess based on how you're dressing and your… interestingly designed… bag.”

The gull this guy has to judge after literally yelling at someone to ask him a sum.

“Well Mr “I think math and science is better than the arts” you're wasting your money on a subject you don't really like so guess who's money is really wasted”

“Well at least I'll be making money post grad How about You? Oh wait Probably not.”

“Wow Michael Gavey you deserve a Nobel prize for solving the meaning of life!! Making money!!” sarcasm spilling from Edith’s mouth, not wanting to let this guy win.

Due to the bickering fight Edith and Michael were having, either of them failed to realized Oliver used it as a way to escape the situation

“God you're such a cunt Edith Pemberton.”

“Takes one to know one bitch.” a smirk reappearing on her face as she picks up her now almost empty plate and bag to leave a now bewildered Michael Gavey.

Summer of Like // Farleigh Start x OC (4)

It’s almost unbearably hot. Almost.

The sun hangs high overhead, casting its heated glare over the lawn where Venetia and I lounge, beach towels spread over the grass and what used to be a pitcher of ice-cold water between us (rapidly losing its chill in the heat). I shift on my towel, rolling over to lay on my stomach so my back gets an even tan with the rest of me. I can’t tell if Venetia is awake or asleep through her thick, wide eyed, sunglasses. Not wanting to disturb her if she is napping, I turn my attention to Felix and Farleigh, a little ways away, kicking a soccer ball back and forth.

Felix’s hair bounces around his head as he does a little trick with the ball - bouncing it back and forth on his knees before passing it back to Farleigh. Farleigh, who seems much less adept with a soccer ball, just slams it back at Felix as hard as he can, and laughs when Felix can’t catch it. Neither of them are wearing a shirt - not that I really am either, in my bikini - and I don’t blame them. I can’t imagine doing anything actually active in this heat.

“Stop staring at my brother.”

I turn my head towards Venetia. “I thought you were asleep. And I wasn’t.”

I can’t see her eyes behind her sunnies, but her mouth quirks like she’s rolling them. “You so totally were-”

“I don’t understand why you’re so worried that I’m going to fuck your brother.” I say, deadpan. I get it, to an extent - it would be weird, and probably make her uncomfortable - but the way she keeps insisting makes it seem like she doesn’t trust me. Like she’s waiting for me to go behind her back. “I’m not going to throw our friendship away for some dick, V, please. You’re way more important to me than getting laid.”

She lowers her sunglasses with a finger, peering over the top of the lenses, up at me. “Promise?”

“Promise.” I hold out my hand for a pinky swear, and smile when she locks our fingers together.

A brief silence passes between us, and I let my gaze wander down her body, tracing over her prominent hip bones with my eyes. She slides her sunglasses back into place, and tucks her arms behind her head, a makeshift cushion amongst her hair. A little ways away, Farleigh swears, ,and Felix laughs.

“So what’s the deal with that?” I ask, trying to come off as casual and not pressuring. “Your whole thing with Felix.”

“What’d’ya mean?” Venetia asks - it’s a front though, the tone of her voice tells me that she knows exactly what I’m talking about.

“Why were you so worried that I was gonna fuck your brother?” I ask, now peering over the top of my own sunglasses, down at her.

Her face shifts, and she wrinkles her nose. She shifts on her towel, rolling so that she’s now laying on her stomach too. With a long sigh, she flips her hair neatly over her shoulder. “Last summer, the lad that Felix brought home, Eddie - he and I had a bit of a fling. And Fi got all up in arms about it, and he and Eddie aren’t friends at all anymore, and I guess I’m just worried that now that I’ve brought a friend of my own home, that he’ll try and do the same. Get revenge, you know.”

My gaze shifts back to Felix, who’s now got Farleigh in a headlock as they wrestle for the soccer ball. “That seems ridiculously petty.” I note.

Venetia’s petulant pout turns into a smile. “We Cattons are known for that sort of thing.” She says, like it’s something to be proud of.

“Mm.” I hum, watching as Farleigh wiggles his way out of Felix’s grasp and makes a grab for the soccer ball, only for Felix to grab him by the ankle and pull him backwards along the grass. I grimace - I can only imagine the scratches that being dragged across the dry lawn left on his chest.

“You’re right, it’s a silly thing to be so paranoid about.” She acquiesces, tilting her head towards me. “Sorry for being annoying ‘bout it.”

“Nah, you weren’t being annoying, I just didn’t know, like, what you were so worried about.” I say. “Felix isn’t even my type.”

She laughs at that, and reaches over to the pitcher between us to pour some more water into her mostly empty cup. “I know - he’s not pretty enough for you.” She teases, sipping her drink.

I roll my eyes. “It’s not about being pretty-”

“Sorry,” She cuts me off, cocking her head. “Effeminate, then? Not foppish enough?”

I reach over and playfully shove her shoulder with a smile. “Venetia Catton, you are mean, did you know that? I take care of you when you’re blackout drunk, or high off your ass, or crying over a guy for a whole year and you repay me by making fun of me.”

“‘S’not my fault you like ‘em a little gay.” She says, rolling back onto her back to sit up. “Ciggie?” She offers, reaching for the box of Marlboro 100s she’d tossed down in the grass when we’d set down our towels.

“Sure.” I say, kneeling back onto my haunches to take the cigarette she offers me. I tuck it between my lips, and reach for the lighter that landed by the pitcher. I light it quickly, and take a greedy drag - this is the one thing from this study abroad that I think will stick with me for the rest of my life - a nicotine addiction.

Venetia takes her own cigarette and touches it’s end to mine, lighting it off my cherry before leaning back to place it between her lips. There’s a brief pause as the exhales before she says, “I’m glad you’re here, Evie.”

“I’m glad you invited me.” I return, laying back down to bask in the sun.

And it’s a good thing I do, because next thing I know, the soccer ball is soaring over me, right through the air where I’d just been sitting.

“Watch it!” Venetia says, leveling a glare at Felix and Farleigh, as they amble over to collect their ball. “That would’ve hit Evie square in the face.”

“Sorry, sorry.” Felix says, hopping over the pitcher in chase of the ball.

I sit up onto my elbows as Farleigh stops in front of us. Sweat pools on his brow and collects at the base of his throat, giving him almost a glittery sheen. “Wouldn’t want to damage those perfect teeth.” He says, reaching for the water pitcher. “Can I borrow a glass?”

“Here.” I say, handing him mine.

He grins, and pours himself a healthy helping of our water. He gulps it down greedily, fast enough where some of it dribbles out the side of the glass and rolls down his face to land on his chest. When he’s done, he hands my glass back with a grin, and wipes his mouth on the back of his hand. “Thanks Eves.”

“No problem.” I return his grin.

From behind us, Felix throws the soccer ball, and it thwacks Farleigh directly in the head, causing Farleigh to let out an indignant splutter. Their game begins again as Felix hops back over the pitcher, and Farleigh kicks the ball as hard as he can towards Felix, and misses.

Venetia watches them for a moment, and then turns to me, an eyebrow peeking over the top of her sunnies.

I force my face to remain neutral, and look steadfastly ahead.

I just reached 200 followers on here, and I’d just like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me and my writing this far. I honestly didn’t think my writing would go anywhere, but obviously I was wrong! 200 might not seem like a lot to some, but it genuinely means the world to me knowing people enjoy my writing just as much as I enjoy actually writing it.

Update on Get him back [Michael Gavey x OC]

Hi I just wanted to update people on my progress. So I'm really excited to start writing the fic but I'm currently waiting on a package from Amazon. it contains a Bluetooth keyboard for my ipad so I can type on my ipad w/ an actual keyboard. I do have most of the outline down and I plan to start writing the beginning of part one in my composition notebook so all I have to do is type what is already written on page.
