Happy Lunar New Years! It's officially the year of the dragon!
This is a picture that I had been working on specifically for the year of the dragon, HOWEVER, I would like to believe that this would be a more fantasy Au with Auberon and his brother where the two have dragons who are bonded to them.
Still not entirely sure if this Au should keep his name as it is with his bitty form.... let me know in the comments. I would love to see y'all's opinions on this!

Here is a fairly recent piece, Circle of Protection.
The central image of the sun/flower, sans-dragon, was an old tattoo that someone wanted to rework and partly cover up. I worked up several designs that would make use of it in various ways, with stuff in the middle and stuff surrounding it. They chose a different final design, and left me the alternates to do with as I would.
So with additional modifications, saving only the spokes of the sun/flower, this is one of the variations. The addition of the inner and outer dragons are mine, as is all of the scale and design work throughout the piece.
I colored this with Prismacolor Scholar and Premier pencils in bits and pieces over the course of a year or so. I did some of the work at conventions, and some while hanging out with my family, then finished it up over a weekend back in '21. I'm very pleased with the result, as almost all of the pencils in the pencil box got a good workout.

TBST - Portraits
Since I really love how good those three pieces look, I decided to make a single post with them grouped together.
You can read the story here:
Book 1
Book 2
And, please, don't hesitate to tell me what you think of it on here, if you like.

How do you think hummingbird wings would work best on a human?? How would they be able to bend/move, and how exactly do hummingbird wings work? Tysm!!
Hummingbirds have very unique wings. They're built with very short "arm" bones and a longer "hand". This allows them to move the wing faster with larger strokes, because of physics. small motion at the shoulder, large motion at the wingtips. It's a pretty efficient little system.
(image description: comparative illustrations of hummingbird wing bones alongside other bird wings and the human arm. hummingbird wings have a very short secondary feathers section and a large primary feathers section. They are more narrow and paddle-like. end description.)
so on a humanoid body, i think you can make this work if you just make them very small with short limbs, so the wings get muscular priority.
(image description: two simplified grey humanoid figures with color coded wings. The first has typical bird wings with very distinct and equal sections of primary and secondary flight feathers. The second has hummingbird wings, with a very small secondary flight feathers section. the hummingbird wings do not appear to fold as much as the typical bird wings. the first humanoid also has a longer body and legs, as well as a larger arm shoulder, while the hummingbird humanoid has a shorter body and legs with a small arm shoulder. end description.)
hopefully that's helpful! hummingbirds are really cool, I highly recommend looking up slow motion videos of how they fly.

This is Serpent Star 3 from 2003.
I don't have a lot to say about this one. It was a piece designed to make use of my favorite colors more than anything else!
Prismacolor pencils over acrylic wash.
