Daddy! » Hangman x Wife!Reader
Pairing: Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin x Wife!Reader(Kazansky)
Summary: Jake’s daughter sees him while he’s out with the Dagger Team and his private life is no longer private.
Warning: None, just fluff really.
A/N: I hope this is okay? I had a similar idea to this request so I’m kinda merging the two.
MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Jake had attempted to keep his private life just that, private. He wasn’t fond of showing off his wife or daughter like they were trophies, it was something that Y/N had firmly told him the day after they were engaged.
“I won’t be a trophy wife, Jake.” Her voice was hard, yet firm, “I know the navy…and I won’t be a naval aviators trophy.”
She had always been hard on him from the beginning, considering she was an Admiral’s daughter when they met. Now she was a Commanders daughter.
It was always awkward talking to Commander Kazansky before throat cancer, he had always eyed Jake like he was a weed in his perfect bed of roses.
He mellowed out after his granddaughter was born, Lenora, after Jake’s mother, or Lenny for short.
So when he heard a loud, familiar, giggle and a head of hair he knew too well, his heart kind of stopped out of fear.
Fear that his team would judge him, or more so his daughter. He became defensive about his little girl; as did any father over their little girl.
“Daddy!” Lenny exclaimed as she sprang up into Jake’s arms. Her embrace almost cutting off his air supply, but despite his fear of judgement, he laughed loudly and held her closer for comfort.
“Daddy?” A voice drawled out from behind the cocksure pilot, his blood running cold. He turned to meet the shocked and confused look of his fellow teammates, and work-in-progress-friends.
“Yeah, this is my daughter.” He spoke calmly, yet the other pilots could hear the shake of nervousness in his voice, “Lenora these are daddy’s friends.”
The little girl shyly looked toward her fathers entourage with a small smile. The group immediately enthralled by her, although they couldn’t shake the feeling of familiarity.
When a woman walked up behind Jake, they furrowed their brows, Jake noticing turned toward her and grinned when he met the mesmerising eyes of his wife.
“Sorry, sweetie, I didn’t realise.” Y/N muttered out, her arms reaching for the little girl. But Lenora fought to stay at her fathers side.
“No, it’s about time they knew, anyway.”
The three Seresin’s turned toward the group, who stood wide eyed. Their gazes unmoving from the woman they knew as the late Commanders daughter. Y/N Kazansky.
“You’re married to Commander Kazansky’s daughter?!” Rooster exclaimed, his voice unbelieving and his mouth on the floor, “and you have a kid with her?!”
He laughed humourlessly, Jake becoming very angry and very defensive.
“If you want to joke, then fuck off.” The bitterness in Jake’s voice wasn’t new, but the defensiveness was completely new. His body was tense and his arms tightened around his daughter.
Maverick, who had been standing a bit back, had seen this behaviour from Goose when Bradley was just a kid.
“Lenora, did you say?” Mav asked the man, Jake staring at Mav appreciatively. When he found out that Maverick was his wife’s Godfather, he felt embarrassment from the first day wash over him with a redness to his cheeks.
This was Maverick’s first time meeting his Goddaughter’s daughter, it seemed almost wrong to have an introduction while Ice was being lowered into the ground. Plus, Y/N was a mess that day.
He knew Hangman was the one who married her, hell he’d seen Y/N when she was pregnant with Lenora.
“Yeah.” Jake breathed out, watching Y/N move forward and hug her uncle tightly. He shook his head of his head of brain fog, “Why are you in Fightertown?”
It’d been at least a year since the commander had passed on.
“We wanted to surprise you, Daddy!” Lenora exclaimed happily. The Dagger team smiling warmly at the little girl.
“Aw, thanks baby-girl.” He smirked out while kissing his daughters cheek.
“We need to go to aunty Penny’s!” The little girl exclaimed excitedly, Jake smiling warmly at the mention of the older woman.
It had never made sense the relationship between Penny and Jake, the team had always wondered why he chose to talk to the woman in private more often than not. It made sense now, looking at the little girl and the us of ‘aunty’ when addressing the older Benjamin.
“Okay, let’s do that then?” Jake asked his team, the group nodding along considering they’d just come back from their Captain’s for a brief get together while everyone was in town.
The Dagger team coming to terms with the fact that Jake ‘Hangman’ Seresin, was indeed full of surprises. One of those surprises being his excellent milkshake making skills, though Rooster will never admit to the fact.
A/N: this was my best attempt considering I got distracted half way through and had to rescue an orphaned lamb…but here we go! I hope it’s okie dokie ☺️😊

THE MOON AND ITS SUN || A HARRY POTTER FANFICTION [NEW GEN] PT. 5 [JIM’S POV]
Tumblr media
tw: incest, angst, pstd, mentioned past abuse, four year age gap, trauma, emotional repression, heavy angst
pairing: lily luna potter/james sirius potter
“my beloved is radiant and red blooded, recognizable between ten thousand”
he read it somewhere, when he was younger, taking his Uncle Dudley's bible from the shelf. he wasn't that sure the translation was accurate, because he read it in aphorisms book, later on. it stroke him on a next level: in a ocean of redheads in his family, he only could see her, his Double L.
this nickname strangely came up when her sister was five and he was nine: he thought, it's funny, she has two Ls in her full name.
as for ‘Jim’ it was his father coming up with it. Harry said it was cute and way more quicker instead of calling him ‘Jaime’, as her mum suggested or even ‘James’, it was very confusing because of his grandfather. wandering between thoughts he noticed that his middle name was Sirius and her middle name was Luna. they are connected even more. thanks to Teddy, he learnt about his father’s godfather, Sirius who was an animagus, a dog to be exact, they called him Padfoot and Teddy's father was a werewolf, Moony.
he felt somewhat connected by this, since his middle name was Sirius while her sister's middle name was Luna, moon in Italian and in Spanish. he belonged to someone. for the first time, he felt more then spare genes. when he looked into Double L's eyes, he felt seen. Harry used to imply “don't show them your weaknesses. act, don't tell” and then, everything was ok, in theory. but he was not. he was not fine, nor brave because he was scared how much fond he was of Double L. she was his whole world. he liked the way her eyebrows frowned, her lips curving in disappointment and her eyes shining while watching her favourite muggle cartoon, The Fairly Oddparents, laughing heartedly about Cosmo idiocy. Jim, on the other hand, likes reading books best, especially Muggle ones, one of his favourite was IT by an American Muggle writer called Stephen King, in which a group of kids discover the fear of growing up, because let's be honest, Pennywise is the incarnation of fearing of growing up.
and was he afraid of it? indeed.
also, Jim is Bill with a touch of Richie and Double L is Beverly only on appearance, when her personality is basically Eddie. Jim fears that someday, a common someone, will snatch her and consequently leave the nest they patiently and cautiously built.
on Christmas Eve 2022, he saw Lily Luna in her Hogwarts clothes, wearing harmonically blue and silver, matching with her somber aura.
the merry season also meant spending time with his cousins and endure Rosie behaviour every year: as time passed, his cousin became more and more bitter. he didn't know why, although he suspected something. he wasn't that sure nor confident to fully say it out loud. it's the only time of the year in which his father is truly relaxed and happy because to Harry, the jolly season meant sweets, a family on his back and mostly budding more with his childhood friend, Uncle Ron. and that Christmas was so special to him, it's in which he realised that Double L is his love, that he romantically loves her, like hundreds burning suns.
what scares him it is not platonic what he feels about Double L, rather the intensity.
he always joked about people's feelings and their romances.
but he wanted to accept all that mess, clearing, once for all, the confusion in his head.
«your hair is sunset» Jim whispered in awe while stroking her locks.
«honestly, it's much more like blood, innit?» she replied looking into his eyes.
«and your eyes are my sky» he then kissed her cheeks repeatedly and Double L blushed deeply.
they were beaming under the light from the window, cuddling between the bed sheets. Lily kissed James on the lips, tasting the unconditional love he felt for her.
they were just two broken souls, vexed by traumatized parents, who met in the halfway of their life.
once upon a time there was a Lily and there was a James. not them but now they are them. quite. not really.

Bring your kid to work day
Summary: Criminal Minds, Derek Morgan/ftm reader, Reader is a single parent and the rest of the team find out
Spencer doesn’t look up from where you emerged from the guest room.
“You good Y/N?”
“Yeah..”
“You don’t sound it. You want to talk about it before I actually put thought into your behaviour… Or worse tell the team my little brother isn’t fit for duty..”
“You wouldn't!” You scowl but then grimace and sigh.
“I’m pregnant.”
“Alright what are you, we going to do about it? Have you told Derek? Do you want to? Should I? What about mom?”
“Calm down Spence; I just wanted to let someone know.”
“Oh so you and Derek have been trying? You’ve only just started dating…”
“Well we weren’t not trying. So basically we were since I kinda assumed the shots sort of cut my chances of ever having a kid let alone a slightly accidental one…”
“Alright; well I’ll keep your secret, one condition.” You grimace again wondering what outlandish thing your brother will demand of you.
“I get to be the godfather.”
“You were already going to be!!”
“Should I change my demand then?”
“No, that's perfect, great choice!” You both laugh at each other before he offers out his arms and pulls you into a hug.
“We’ll all get through this, now; how are you telling Derek?”
”Y/N, why is there a small child here?”
“It’s bring your kid to work day..” You offer surprised to see Hotch’s eyebrows raise.
“We have that?”
“No, I just couldn’t find a sitter.”
“She uh, is walking pretty well.”
“Mhm, she’s two.”
“Oh hey kiddo.” Spencer laughs and Hotch turns to him with a glare. “What?”
“Y/N has a kid?? You’re an uncle??”
“Yeah, did he never say anything? I thought they knew!” Spencer scolds you and you shrug.
“Nobody ever asked!! I’m not going to run around like the lion king and shove her in everyone’s faces.”
“Aw spence is this your niece??”
“Yeah, Y/N’s daughter..”
“You have a kid???”
“Why is everyone surprised, can’t I be a single dad??”
“You’re dating Morgan, you're not single.”
“Can’t I be a dad?” Plus I thought you guys would be happy I was keeping her out of the public eye.”
“We are, but Reid, really you couldn’t even tell us your own brother was a father… It would have made sense why he skipped so many meetings! You could have gotten parental leave.”
“Why did you think he wasn’t a father? I’ve mentioned my niece before!” Spencer shrugs.
“We assumed you had a sister or something?! Why would we think your brother has a kid!” Derek and Spencer start laughing at the same time.
‘What?”
“Nothing, just an inside joke.” They chuckle a little and you roll your eyes.
”Papa!” You try to hide the smirk as your daughter interrupts the conversation. Derek reaches for her automatically and you can tell the team is biting down any questions they have to avoid saying anything in front of your daughter.
“So uh is this one of those two dad things?”
“Yes. But also-”
“You don’t have to..” Derek cuts in and you shake your head at his protectiveness.
“A, they already know from the files; B I’ve been meaning to tell them anyways.”
You nod to where your daughter is currently occupied with a tablet and some cartoon.
“I’m technically her mother; well I got pregnant and gave birth to her; I’m transgender.”
“Oh my god.”
“Yeah it’s-”
“You and Derek had a kid out of wedlock!!! You can’t get health benefits if you disclose that!”
“That’s what you’re focusing on??” “Well yeah, it makes sense why you never said anything.”
“Of course that’s what you’re… yeah?” You scowl when Hotch seems to appear, case files secured between his arm and elbow.

Valentines Day for Nerds (Spencer Reid x Fem!Reader)
Summary: Spencer’s favourite holiday is often taken up mostly by work, but this year his enjoyment doesn’t seem to be as disruptive in the BAU bullpen. The team soon realise why.
AN: It’s a bit late- who am I kidding? IT’S ALWAYS HALLOWEEN IN OUR HEARTS! This was a part of @imagining-in-the-margins fic swap, for the brilliant @agntprentiss <3
For my smut fic from the swap, check out A Little Indulgence (18+ only!)
Reader uses she/her pronouns!
Word count: 1.7k words
Tumblr media

Your name: submit What is this?
The first breach of boredom was Penelope practically skipping into the bullpen, her arms cradling a bouquet of flowers as if it were an infant. The bold orange roses contrasted with the dyed black petals of its counterparts as they were planted upon Spencer’s desk.
“Delivery for Doctor Reid!” trilled Penelope, clapping her hands now that they were free of said delivery. Dropping his pen onto his unfinished paperwork, Spencer pivoted the base of the bouquet before he found a small black envelope.
It held a little card with two pumpkins, happy faces carved into them both. Inside were the following words:
 Black is for new beginnings,
Orange is for enthusiasm,
Spooky times are afoot tonight,
Watch out for ectoplasm!
I spent ten minutes trying to think of a rhyme for that. Happy Halloween, Cara Mia!
Y/N xxx
Spencer beamed as he placed the bouquet at the edge of his desk, next to the fake severed hand that now held the card in its stiff fingers. He scratched his bristly cheek. Less than a day until he could shave this off. It’d be worth it though.
“Is it from Y/N?”
He looked up to see Penelope had lingered like a lost spirit, waiting to see if her trials of passing on the bouquet had been worthy enough for her to move onto the next world – her Batcave. She was poised with a hopeful expression.
“Yes,” Spencer said, watching Penelope lean up on her tiptoes as she tried to rein in her delight.
She clapped her hands, her purple painted nails clicking as they tapped together, “Are my two favourite ghost hunters up to much this Hallow’s Eve?”
“We’re going to see the Phantasmagoria re-enactment after we go trick-or-treating with Henry tonight.”
It was hard to ignore the absolute glee with which Spencer spoke. Even if one completely ignored the way his voice carried a light excitement, the way his eyes lit up and his broad smile almost fell off his face was enough to connote that he was very excited for tonight. It was also hard to ignore the mild bemusement on the faces of everyone who heard.
Glad to be back and bearing witness to his elated behaviour regardless, Emily cracked a smile, “Maybe she’ll cling to you when she gets scared.”
A heat crawled up Spencer’s neck and he tried to return to work now in hopes that his gift’s display would be cut off. He’d rather sit in the glow of receiving the flowers without mockery.
To the team’s credit, no one ribbed him for it.
The flowers were not the last gift though.
Soon Penelope reappeared, “Your Cupid has returned with another gift for you!”
As he tore at the paper and revealed an Edgar Allen Poe pin – the titular Raven he instantly attached it to his satchel strap – in pride of place, just like the bouquet.
Derek was the one to notice how Spencer’s sandwiches had been cut into little pumpkins. Some digging and Spencer revealed that he had gotten Y/N to order a cutter online. He held his lunch in one hand, his collection of classic Halloween short stories in the other, with a childish glee that no one wanted to squander.
When Spencer climbed the steps to drop off a file to Hotch around mid-afternoon, Rossi walking behind him noted the brand-new socks. A classic odd pairing, and obviously they were Halloween themed. This kid left no opportunity untaken when it came to celebrating Halloween – more than his own birthday.
But Rossi was not closed enough to get a good look at them, and no one else was as close. So, he recruited Emily and Derek to discover what the pattern was. It was Emily and Derek who upped the stakes by wanting to get a glimpse without arousing suspicion. Now that outright asking Spencer was not an option, the game began as they dropped several pens as an excuse to bend over and strain for a flash of those socks.
Derek eventually resorted to a pantomime attempt at tripping in front of Spencer’s desk and gave the jig up straight away by shouting to a stressed Emily (whilst also catching the attention of Hotch through his office’s blinds): “IT’S IT!”
A few language barriers hurdled later, and hindsight brought them both clarity. The red splodge on Spencer’s ankle was officially defined as a balloon.
“So tell us! What’s the other one?” Emily said, her voice strained with how much she was invested in this single sock.
Spencer hiked up his trouser leg to display the skeletal zombie sewn into the sock. “It’s Curtis Danko from When Good Ghouls Go Bad. Y/N had it commissioned for me!”
JJ was watching nearby, unaffected by the tensions of the sock bet. She knew the film because Y/N had wanted to show it to Henry the other week when she babysat him. But upon further inspection, the R.L. Stine film – while intended for kids – might be a little intimidating for Henry to watch without his profiler mother and godfather, police officer father, and favourite auntie there to protect him from the cursed statue.
No one else in the bullpen knew the film.
The team soon discovered that Spencer was not the only one to be on the receiving end of such gifts. Six o’clock rolled around and Y/N entered the bullpen. She was wearing a fuzzy black scarf, some sparkles shining within the wool. At the tail of it, a lucky black cat patch was sewn onto the end. It caught Rossi’s eye and he hid behind a folder as he smiled. The three times that Spencer had forgone a card game with him (in favour of knitting the scarf on the flights back from cases) had been riddled with playful teasing. It was good to see that it was worth it.
Especially when Spencer saw Y/N wearing it and his back snapped straight up. His chair flew backwards, spinning around with the effort that Spencer had launched himself from it, and he and Y/N embraced each other with casual affection.
“How was work today?”
“Not as boring as I thought. But, I have to say: I’m meant to call you Cara Mia.” Spencer’s eyes darted to the card Y/N had sent that morning.
Y/N caught onto his meaning, “Should I stop?”
“Never.”
She rubbed her nose against his and Spencer went pink again, giggling like a teenager. True, he was as smitten with Y/N as Gomez was with Morticia. Then he remembered he was in the workplace as Y/N went to greet the rest of the team, and Spencer’s pink became a scarlet.
“Aww, Pretty Boy,” Derek grinned at him from his desk chair, “You’re so cute!”
“It’s like Sergio!” Emily said, admiring the scarf with her thumb rubbing over the stitches around the cat patch.
“Make sure he’s safe tonight,” Y/N squeezed her hands for a second.
Then JJ appeared from her office, coat and bag over her arm, and she, Y/N, and Spencer wished the bullpen a Happy Halloween before they left.
They had three hours before the Phantasmagoria started. Plenty of time to get ready.
Henry was right behind the front door of his home. The second it opened, he bounced at Spencer’s feet, his tiny hand clutching onto two of his fingers to drag him inside. He was babbling away at such speed that Y/N could barely keep up. She gave Will a wave across the ironing board where he was diligently ironing Will’s cape.
“Well don’t you look handsome!” Y/N beamed at Henry while JJ combed his hair back, slick with gel. It was something he agreed to but only if Spencer was doing the same. Which he was, occupying the downstairs bathroom as he prepared his own costume.
The moment Spencer had finished shaving everything bar the moustache, he was plonked in front of the television. Henry smoothed out his cloak and put in his plastic fangs in to watch the rest of his new favourite Halloween film, The Little Vampire. He mumbled along with Rudolph’s lines and sat enraptured as he pointed out to Spencer the flying scenes. Luckily for him, Will and JJ were getting dressed as Frederick and Freda Sackville-Bagg upstairs to join in the Halloween spirit – last year’s Halloween date night disaster long forgotten.
Henry put in his plastic fangs and hissed at Y/N who emerged in her long sleek black dress. As she stepped across the room as elegantly as Morticia, Spence spied that she was wearing the black spiderweb tights he had bought her today.
“Hello, Gomez,” She smiled radiantly at Spencer, smoothing out his suit jacket as he stood before her. He presented her with a red rose that matched her lipstick to a tee.
As she breathed in the flower’s scent, he kissed her cheek, enjoying her giggle at the bristle of his ‘stache, “You’re stunning.”
“Thank you, and you’re handsome as ever.” She swung their linked hands between them in the opposite way she poised on her tiptoes. “Maybe we should have taken a tango class.”
And she laughed loudly at Spencer’s wincing at such a thought.
“It’s ok, Cara Mia. I’ll settle for a kiss instead.”
Oh, that was something he could do forever. He brought her hands to his lips and kissed her knuckles then the inside of each wrist.
Unfortunately, Henry interrupted the stream of kisses that were headed in Y/N’s way. “Ready to go!” He skipped his way between the happy couple.
It was hard to be mad at Henry, especially with how adorable he looked beside his parents and with his bright orange pumpkin bag ready to collect candy. He felt safe with his four favourite adults guarding him.
“Tonight,” Y/N whispered into his ear and he could hear the smirk in her words, “After the Phantasmagoria.”
Spencer beamed, his dimples delightfully framing that smile. One day maybe, they would have their own Wednesday, Pugsley, and Pubert to join them. And maybe then Derek would dress up as Uncle Fester.

Fandom, I was wondering...why were Remus and Tonks taking a nap in the middle of the BoH? Seeing as they survived, I thought I might write something the day after the anniversary. Not set then, though.
‘Teddy? Are you in there?’ Remus called through a locked bathroom door. He was pretty sure his son was in there, seeing as the only other inhabitant of the Lupin household was in the kitchen, making pancakes. ‘Teddy?’
‘I’m coming, Dad!’ A slightly aggravated voice came back through the door.
‘Alright, hurry up! We have to be at King’s Cross in half an hour!’
‘I know!’ Remus wondered why his son was being so snappy, especially on this special day. He remembered his first train ride to Hogwarts, and how it had changed his life, meeting the Marauders. Remus had been absolutely terrified at the prospect of boarding a train to go to school for months at a time. However, he had had his “furry little problem” to deal with.
‘Hey, Dora?’ Remus said as he entered the kitchen.
‘Yep?’ Tonks was busy at the stove, not bothering to turn around.
‘D’you know why Teddy’s being snappish?’ He asked. At this, Tonks turned around and studied him.
‘Well...I might have a suspicion,’ She said slowly. ‘When I started at Hogwarts, I was dead worried about what to do with my appearance, and perhaps it’s the same for Teddy? He does use anger to deflect worry...’
‘Yes, he does...’ Remus mused as he moved around the kitchen table to help with the breakfast. ‘Just like someone else I know,’ and he pressed a kiss to her cheek.
‘Really, Dad?!’ A voice from behind them sounded. Remus turned to see his son take a seat at the table.
‘Really, Edward?!’ Tonks said as she laid a plate down in front of Teddy.
‘Son, why’s your hair black?’ Remus asked. In contrast to Teddy’s normal hair colours, this was a big change.
‘Is there something wrong with having my normal hair colour?’ Teddy snapped.
‘Teddy, watch how you talk to your father!’ Tonks warned.
‘Sorry.’
~~~~~~~~
When they arrived at the platform, Remus loaded Teddy’s trolly and the family strolled into King’s Cross Station. ‘Okay, Teddy, let’s go through the barrier!’
Teddy grabbed his father’s sleeve, and together they ran at the barrier between platforms nine and ten. Teddy shut his eyes just as they reached the barrier, for fear of crashing. However, the crash never came, and when Teddy opened his eyes, he was standing in front of a large scarlet steam engine.
‘Woah, that’s the Hogwarts Express...’ Teddy said in awe.
‘Indeed it is,’ said Remus. He turned to greet his wife as she came through moments later, accompanied by a young man with scruffy black hair and sharp green eyes peering through round glasses. A faded scar resided on his forehead, the lightning bolt a reminder of his childhood.
‘Harry!’ Remus said, and he pulled the younger man into an embrace.
‘Good to see you again, Remus! Even though I see you every Friday! Can’t be like that now though, with you and Teddy at Hogwarts! Where is he?’ Harry asked.
‘Uncle Harry!’ Teddy flung his arms around his godfather. ‘I knew you’d come!’
‘Hey, Ted! What’s up with the hair?’ Remus and Tonks grimaced, expecting a snappy response, but Teddy only beckoned Harry down, and whispered into his ear. After a few moments, Harry nodded sagely, and with an apologetic look at Remus and Tonks, steered their son away from them. Remus watched as Harry bent down to Teddy’s height. The black haired boy who so reminded Remus of his father looked Teddy in the eyes, and began speaking to him in a low tone.
Slowly, the normal turquoise seeped back into Teddy’s hair, and Remus smiled, wrapping his arm around Dora’s waist. ‘Miracles what Harry can do, eh?’
‘Indeed. I wonder where he gets his ability to cheer people up from?’ Tonks replied.
‘Sometimes I do wonder...’
‘It’s you, silly! You always have your chocolatey ways to set examples for Harry!’
‘I guess so...’
~~~~~~~~~~
The small family (plus Harry) waved Teddy off, and as the train chugged out of the station, Remus turned to Harry.
‘What did you tell Teddy that changed his mind about his hair? What was going on with him?’
‘Oh,’ Harry smiled, ‘He was worried about the Sorting. He didn’t want to disappoint either of you, but he wanted to sport the “house colour hair”. I think he was also afraid of being judged.’
Tonks and Remus nodded, understanding their son’s odd behaviour. ‘Well, what did you tell him?’ Tonks pressed.
‘I told him the Sorting Hat will know what’s best, but that it does take his choice into account. All he had to do was be himself.’
‘Really, Harry! You have a way with words and children, it’s a wonder you aren’t a teacher!’ Remus said.
‘No, that’s your job, Remus. I’ll take over when you become headmaster!’ Harry smiled. ‘Besides, I’m not having much luck with getting James changed!’
Remus snorted at Harry’s first comment, and smiled at his second. ‘Well, Dora and I had trouble getting his hair done, so it seems that the boys don’t much like listening to their parents!’
‘Well, there is no surprise there! Look at you two, a Marauder and a Marauder’s son, wondering why your children are rebellious!’ Tonks said.
They all laughed, before they apparated to Hogsmeade together. Time for a visit to the Three Broomstick’s before the Sorting.

On summers he has the right to be with her for two weeks.

masterlist // dialogue prompts
Tumblr media
“Laura, are you ready?” You asked her as you were wearing your coat.
“Yes mum, I’m getting my backpack!” She answered from her room.
“Alright babe, your dad’s waiting for you!” You cringed at the last words; dad. You ended it on bad terms, but laura had nothing to do with it.
“I’m ready!” She ran through your place fully excited to spend her weekend with Roger. You kissed her before going at the parking, to get your car; that one Roger bought you for Christmas.
You shook your head trying to forget some explicit memories from you two in this car and started the engine, going to Roger’s house. It was a mansion compared to your ordinary flat. Maybe Laura would be happier with him, who knows.. Her attitude’s different when she’s with him like they’re best friends.
“Did you get all your stuff?” You asked her as you were reaching his home, just one turn and you reached the destination.
“Oh no.” She whispered at herself while checking her backpack.
“What is it, love?” You asked concerned.
“Mum, would you mind going back to get my pyjamas? I don’t have my pair here..” she looked sad.
“Of course, I’ll let you go to your dad’s now and I’ll come back in a quarter with your pyjamas. I won’t be late.” You smiled at her and dropped her by his door. “Let me help you carry the backpack.” You offered but she politely refused.
“Dad! Open up, I’m here!” Laura shouted when knocking his white front door.
You tried to keep yourself together when the door was about to open in any second. And there he is, wearing his daily comfy clothes and still looking hot on those. Yes, you were always in love with him, but in the end he wasn’t. Too much cheating while on tour made you extremely mad. You had a dignity to save and a child.
“Hello my little baby girl!” He leaned down to hug Laura. Their hug was long-lasting, they didn’t see each other since the previous weekend. “How is my blonde little angel?” He asked her with a smile on his face, he hasn’t looked at you yet, he’s really focused on his child and you don’t blame him.
“I missed you!” She said between their hug, to his ear while her arms crossed his neck and his hands rubbed her back.
“I missed you too! We are going to have a really good time! Uncle Fred will visit us tomorrow, he can’t wait to see you!” He kept that bright smile of his on his lips and so did she. But her smile got bigger at the second Roger said uncle Fred who happens to be her godfather too.
“I missed uncle Fred. How are his cats?” She laughed because she enjoys playing with them at Garden Lodge.
“I guess they’re fine?” He giggled. “Come on in, don’t stand here.” He kissed her and they both walked in and you were standing there like an asshole watching him ignoring your existence for about five minutes.
“Yeah. You have to take these too, huh? I brought your kid here, a thank you is appreciated.” You said annoyed stretching your hand with two bags towards him.
“Thank you, enjoy your weekend.” He had that selfish ego towards you, you would kill him right away. The choices you have made after the divorce looked right for your happiness. This man would ruin your state of mind if you lived under the same roof.
“I will, that’s for sure.” You winked. “I’ll just have to come back again to bring Laura’s pyjamas. Too pity you don’t have a pair of hers, while your closet must be full of forgotten thongs and cropped tops.” You mocked him right into his face and he was standing there watching you humiliating him.
“I thought we are no longer married, right?” He ironically asked. “Why so jealous?” He let out a crooked smiled.
“Fortunately we are not. And I don’t give a shit about you anymore.” Your ego was talking, you do give five shits about him. “But I don’t want my kid exposed to the fabrics your whores’ wear.” You angrily defended yourself and got back to your car but Roger continued the beef.
“Neither do I want my kid around new men. She needs only one father figure.” He was legit serious while defending himself.
“Is there another joke on its way because I have to leave. It was a good one though.” You ironically replied and left, leaving him unable to call you out.
Roger went inside his home, watching his only daughter fixing her stuff in the living room.
“Laura, will your mum leave this weekend?” He asked trying to catch bait.
“She leaves every time she brings me here.” She seemed unbothered.
“Where’s she going on weekends?” He would die in any second if he didn’t know what you’re doing on weekends and with who.
“She goes on road trips with R/N!” She raved and Roger’s inner Leo awakened.
“Hold on a second, babe.” He took her stuff away from the table to talk with her about it. Laura seemed like she screwed up. “Who’s R/N? Have you met him?” He asked on a serious tone.
“N- no. But she told me we are having dinner with him on Tuesday!” She was thrilled at the idea and Roger was on the edge of insanity. “Mum looks so happy when she talks about him, I’m very happy for her.” She smiled at her dad, having no idea what was coming next.
“Do you know anything else? Won’t you tell papa?” He smiled at her trying to fish her for good.
“She said she would leave right after leaving me here. She made her luggage for the weekend too.” She grabbed her stuff at her arms. “Can I go to my room now?” She politely asked.
“Of course, you can. I’ll let you know when food is ready. Oh and close the door at your room if you want to feel like you’re on your own.” He kissed her forehead and Roger was sitting at the couch, really thoughtful and confused. Laura obeyed his request and so did she closed the door. She didn’t know that her father would start an argument with you. He couldn’t deal with the fact you date another man beside him. That’s so selfish of him, isn’t it?
You came again at his place with the pair of Laura’s pyjamas, unaware of what was coming next. Seeing Roger every time he picks Laura or the opposite you get nothing but heartache and need to cry because you have been heartbroken for years. It took you a lot to stand on your feet again. Roger surprisingly, opened the door before waiting for you to knock. He seemed furious towards you and really nervous. Maybe he couldn’t handle the words he was about to throw.
“Uh, here are Laura’s pyjamas and a pair of clean clothes, guess you don’t have many or any.” You rolled your eyes.
“I bought these clothes.” He checked them by opening the bag.
“Yeah, I know, I just don’t want them in my house, they should stay here and be worn when she stays with you.” you arrogantly crossed your arms.
“Okay, that’s enough.” Flames were popping out of his eyes and he angrily placed his hand at the door’s side.
“Yes, you’re right. I gotta go.” You attempted to turn around but his hand prevented you from it. “What the hell, keep your hands off me.” You tried to get his hand off you. But he wouldn’t resist. “Roger!” You yelled.
“Who’s R/N?” He asked with so much jealousy on his voice.
“What’s it to you?” You bitterly answered trying to put his hand down from you.
“Tell me, or I’m not putting my hand down from your arm.” His raspy voice got shrill. You got scared of him for the first time.
“That’s none of your business Roger! You don’t have the right to invade in my personal life!” You defended yourself physically and emotionally.
“It is my business as long as Laura knows about him. Tell me, who’s he?” He demanded.
“I’d rather keep this for myself.” You toned up your teeth and so did Roger with your arm. “Stop it, you’re hurting me!” You yelled again and now he pulled you aggressively inside his home’s hall.
“Fine! Now that I don’t clasp your arm, you can talk.” He had his hands on his waist waiting for you to speak.
“You don’t have to know who R/N is. I didn’t have to know the names of all the groupies you have slept with.” It’s a fact. And he didn’t seem to bother.
“No, I have to know. No one’s allowed to sleep with you.” Oh God, this man has such a nerve.
“Excuse me? Are you serious?” You opened your mouth in shock, being unable to believe what he just said. “Am I your property or something?” you asked.
“No you’re my wife and my daughter must not meet that asshole. I will not let that diner happen.” He really pushes his luck.
“Firstly, I am not your wife, we divorced a couple of years ago. Secondly, watch your language, this man treats me better than you did all this time so you’re the asshole. Thirdly, you’re forcing me to get restraining orders against you.” You warned him and now he seemed less aggressive than before.
“That man is nothing but trouble between our family!” He is so mad that you date a man after so many years. It was him all the time. But at him, you were one of the plenty.
“We’re not a family! You ruined it. You ruined my happiness and now? You won’t let me date a man? Why? We are not married anymore! Unlikely you, you didn’t seem to bother while I was waiting for you to come home after touring. You were constantly doing it, with no regrets!” You shouted but he tried to lower your tone by pushing you to the wall so Laura wouldn’t hear any angry tone. Your tears would run any moment but you had to stay strong. You’re a strong woman, all this time you were strong. Roger was speechless. He knew you were right. But he’s selfish and so are you.
“You can’t present another man to Laura! She’s a child! At least I was doing it on secret!” His face was approaching yours, so the tone would be lower. He is doing it every time when he wants to take control. You couldn’t stop looking into his blue eyes. It’s like a trick of his, whenever you fight.
“You were secretly doing it because you didn’t want me to know. Not because of Laura. Now, stop looking me this way.” Your voice was smoother and your eyes stopped staring Roger’s. You would melt at any second.
“Have you had sex with him?” He asked with no signs of guilt or embarrassment.
“What the hell, my life’s nothing to do with you anymore. You don’t have to know.” Your eyes were back at his again. His warm breath hitting your face, his lips coming closer to your nose and slowly rubbing that area.
“I’m sure you don’t feel the same way whenever you have sex with him. It’ll always gonna be me.” He teased your skin with his nose, going to your ear, your cheek, your nose and later his lips against yours. Sending shivers all over your body, with his hands wrapping your waist and his legs covering yours.
“You do think a kiss of yours would change my mind?” You arrogantly asked, interrupting the hot moment.
“No, I’m just reminding you what we did. And how it ends up.” He smirked with his palms now on your cheeks.
“I don’t want to remember. You bring me pain and I don’t want it. I’ve had enough of this shit.” You said back trying to put him down.
“So you’re leaving me now for that guy?” He asked defeated. Okay.
“You were leaving me for other women, years and years. You always had the excuse I’m on tour but I do miss you. This is what I was settling for. Do you think I would feel guilty for falling in love with a man who’s not you?” The last sentence hit him right to the feelings. He was speechless. You opened the door again, leaving to meet your new partner at the train station. But you didn’t finish. “You’re right though. I don’t feel the same way when I’m with him. I feel better. I feel appreciated and loved.” You stepped out but before closing the door you said one last thing.
“If you’re curious, sex is better with him. Not that I have many experiences, but I think I can compare between two men.” You smiled, hiding the pain. You lied. Nothing feels like Roger. He hurt you, he mistreated you but you can’t lose feelings for him. You love him but you don’t want to revive the days before divorce. And now you left, started the engine and vanished from the neighbourhood. Crying and missing Roger. But R/N is just a distraction. He’s a good company, but there’s not the passion you used to share with your ex-husband.
“I fucked it up again.” Roger said to himself hitting his head with his hands. “I won’t let her be with him. She doesn’t love him.” He knew you really well. He was missing most of the times, but he knew you. He could read your thoughts.

Maddie Bishop's treatment by the writers in Season 3
Tumblr media
(tl, dr: Maddie deserved better this season) SPOILER WARNING: This post includes spoilers up to and including Episode 308 “Till Death do us part”.  I apologise to the readers for - after a long hiatus - not writing another analysis post first. But I felt the way Maddie was written in Season 3 deserves its own post. So let us take a look at the the way Maddie was written in Season 3, the inconsistencies with her earlier established character traits and the possible justifications for this treatment of her by the writers.
I. Introduction
I generally do not like to post about a show which has not finished its current season. That is because a lot of developments only make sense in retrospect and only then the viewer can know why the writers decided to emphasize certain developments. As such, I am usually trying not to write episode reviews and engage in wild speculation about what will happen next episode. I much prefer writing after the end of a season.
Looking back on all the shows I have seen in my life, there are only a few that come to mind that had a great third season. The West Wing and the Wire are the prominent examples that come to mind.
Tumblr media
(Shameless West Wing Plug. I so miss this show and its intelligent characters, especially in the current political climate).
Other shows meanwhile go completely off the rails (like Andromeda, which never recovered from its Season 3). So in general I tend to be very forgiving to shows entering their third season, not expecting much. Thus I would usually not write something like this.
But: I worry about the treatment of a character I feel very protective of, the chracter who is my favourite character in the show: Maddie Bishop.
Tumblr media
(Vivat regina.)
Her being my favourite character might be surprising to the reader considering most of the posts on this tumblr are about Ryn (and to a lesser degree Ben), while I have written only sparingly about Maddie. But that is simply because Ryn and Ben are more interesting characters to analyze. Emotionally, they tick the "lets root for them" box for me, despite - and because of -  their character flaws. Those flaws always add to the story in a fascinating and dramatic way.
But Maddie Bishop I RESPECTED right from the start. This is in no small part because I always felt drawn to her analytical, logical, scientific side. In cheesy terms, I felt a bond with her because I could easily think of me acting the same way she did in many situations. For me, she was easy to emphatize with, easy to like and very easy to root for.
But this season has been hard to swallow in some respects.
In the words of the Godfather:
Tumblr media
(Tremble in awe of my awesome MS Paint skills)
Note that this does not apply to all of Maddie's actions. In fact, the vast majority of her actions this season are no big deal to me and fit her character. Many of the actions Maddie seems to catch a lot of flak for on other parts of the internet seem perfectly justifiable to me as they do not go against the core traits of her character.
I have no issues with many major decisions Maddie made this season, including but not limited to:
She is totally right to re-evaluate her relationship with Ben. Everybody should probably do so when their boyfriend confesses that he let somebody intentionally drown. (It also is not the first time they have broken up. One breakup per season seems to be the norm with those two, not the exception.)
Her hiding the fact of Ryn being her girlfriend to Robb was the right and logical choice. Most people do not talk about their sexuality in face-to-face situations with strangers.  Let’s remember that they all agreed to hide their relationship even when having dinner with Ben's family...so why would people expect Maddie to refer to Ryn as her girlfriend to strangers?
I am also okay with her deciding to pursue a relationship with Robb. Even though I view him as a giant waste of screentime he seems like a good guy in total. (I really hope his introduction pays off in future seasons because right now it feels as if he has taken double or triple the screentime he should.)
I could go on but I feel the point has been made. What I am however definitely not okay with are the instances where Maddie acts like a complete idiot. Those show a massive failure to respect established character traits by the writers.
Because one thing Maddie Bishop is not is an idiot.
She probably is the smartest character on the whole show. And she is definitely not a hypocrite - in fact, her strong moral core is what made her that great of a character in Season 1 and 2.
Let me just highlight a few situation this season where I disliked heavily how Maddie was written.
II. Revealing the secrets of the Sirens and their existence to a total stranger ?
Tumblr media
“Remember this big secret people are literally getting killed over? I wonder if I should talk about it to this guy I met for a few coffees...not like letting other people knowing about it has ever hurt somebody....Ian? What is an Ian?”
Over the span of a few days, Maddie does the following in Season 3:
Reveal information about the Sirens to a total stranger, even going so far as to show him secret Siren history in the cave
Bring a complete stranger into the maritime laboratory (what exactly could have been her thought process here, what did she hope to gain by this?)
Doing the above despite being repeatedly warned not to do so
I can live with Ben being an idiot and refusing to heed warnings until it almost kills him because that is who his character is - somebody who lets his emotion, empathy and character flaws get the better of him at times despite his good intentions. Him taking stem cells is thus consistent with his character and at the very least a justifiable writers decision. To a lesser degree this also applies to Ryn and her total lack of impulse control. Ben and Ryn making bad decisions it is very consistent with their characters - and yes, this even applies to making stupid decisions. (For Ryn, agreeing to work with the military in Episode 207 “Entrapment” is but one example).
But this is NOT Maddie and never was.
The Maddie from previous seasons was so very invested in keeping the secret that she hid it from her own father in Season 1. This led to the awesome scene between her, her father Dale and Ryn In episode 107: “Dead in the water”.
Tumblr media
She hid this secret from her own mother in Season 2 (heck, she even hid her relationship with Ryn from her). She hid Ryn from her best friends, her former boyfriend and her coworker. And yet, suddenly some stranger from outside town waltzes in and within the span of a few coffee dates she goes and spills the beans to him? After being explicitly warned not to do so? Without even being in a relationship with Robb at that point and knowing next to nothing about him?  If you had held a gun to my head and forced me to pick somebody who would be dumb enough to just reveal the secret of the Sirens to outsiders, Maddie Bishop never would have been my answer.
I could see Ben “Bad Judgement” Pownall and Ryn “No brakes on this train” Fisher doing so. I expect Xander and Calvin to be trash at keeping secrets because that is consistent with their past behaviour. But Maddie? No. Not Maddie. Not the girl who hid her mother’s addiction from the world as best she could. Not the woman who was okay keeping Ryn a secret from her own father. And not to a total stranger.
This is Ben-level stupidity. Actually, it is worse than that. Blabbing about the mermaids to a total stranger without being under any kind of duress is by far the most stupid thing any character has ever done in this show. It risks not only Maddie herself, but also the Sirens as a species. It is even worse than Xander telling Nicole about Helen's family burials at the end of season 2. It is irresponsible and completely outside Maddie's established character traits and her past actions. It is unbelievable.
III. Killing is different when my (animal) girlfriend does it
Besides turning her into an idiot, the writers also turned Maddie into a hypocrite in stating Ryn letting Ian drown is different than Ben doing the same. Nevermind the fact that Ryn has actively killed people (and probably will continue doing so).
Tumblr media
(Why is it different when two people react exactly the same?Because.....reasons. The best reasons. People tell me they are the best reasons. My uncle went to MIT and invented these reasons. Big brain time.)
So the writers had Maddie claim it is different when Ryn does exactly the same thing as Ben. It also is okay for Ryn to kill somebody who was no real threat to Ryn (or Maddie with Ryn being there). Remember when Ryn killed the drug dealer in Episode 205? Ryn was toying with the guy throughout the whole fight and clearly enjoyed killing him in a brutal manner. She even grins during the fight once she realizes the guy has no chance against her.
Tumblr media
And yet, Maddie was okay with this. But it is not okay for Ben to let somebody drown who was  a) a homocidal maniac who used his car as a deadly weapon, having attempted to run Ben over twice previously b) somebody who could not be trusted c) who had just kidnapped a drugged-up Ryn.
I cannot remember when I ever groaned in frustration at anything Maddie had done or said throughout the course of the show. This must have been the first time and it is especially jarring in response to the following scene in 206:
Tumblr media
(Ryn does not. The writers might.) As I said above, I am more than okay with Maddie evaluating her relationship with Ben, what I am not okay with is her immediate declaration that Ryn killing people is different...because she is Ryn? And I hate how it has one particularly ugly implication - that to Maddie, Ryn killing people is just what she does. The conclusion to be drawn from that is that Ryn is indeed a predator/animal first to Maddie than a human being.
And this is obviously inconsistent with Maddie's earlier actions.
First, she did not mind somebody eliminating threats before. She was okay with potentially having to hurt people in order to defeat the sonic cannon in Season 2. She was “willing to fight” to protect Ryn and her species. And several times Maddie carried loaded guns and was ready to use them herself in the series.
She also always believed in Ryn's humanity. I am sure the many scenes between Ryn and Maddie in Season 1 and 2 are fresh in everyone's mind. Suffice to say that Maddie has always believed in the humanity of Ryn, starting with the car scene between the two in Episode 102 or the trust scene in Episode 103, which I have linked below.
youtube
(and where did this dynamic go btw?)  Which ties in neatly with my next point:
IV. The Marginalization of Maddie regarding Ryn and Ben
Let me start by saying that breaking up the trio to focus on Ben/Ryn (and probably continuing to focus on those two) is not something I want to critize from a storytelling perspective. Final judgement on the storytelling will be reserved until the end of the series. As this issue is inextricably linked with “shipping” preferences, I think at this point I have to explain where I stand on the issue. I would prefer Polymarine as I think it really fits the characters best...but I can live with Ben/Ryn. This is in no small part due to Eline Powell and Alex Roe doing some of their greatest work on this show playing off each other. See for example how in Episode 306 they improvised with her hair sticking to his body after a hug and turned that into a tender gesture...great impromptu acting without breaking character. If the writers want to explore this (or any other) relationship  further I can respect that decision from a storytelling perspective because I think the payoff will be satisfying to me as a viewer.  Even though I feel it would have been better to explore Ben/Ryn in the context of Polymarine I begrudgingly accept the right of the writers to tell the story the way they want to.
Tumblr media
And If nothing else it leads to stunning visuals - image credit to @crayonboxhearts, more gifs from this scene at the link.
But I dislike the way in which the writers set it up and executed it this season because (as outlined above) it sacrificed some of Maddie’s core character tenets and had her acting out of character.
Having the trio become a duo on its own in an organic way without the above would have been preferable IMO. There were enough angles the writers could have chosen to facilitate that in a believable manner. They could have focused on the connection Ryn has with Ben, they could have had family reasons...et cetera pp. And they also could have used some of the issues Maddie has in her own past to justify a breakup. All of this would have been (IMO) preferable to what we got.
What we got was something that felt as if it was written to check some boxes to set up the future plotlines and in doing so marginalized Maddie with regards to her importance to Ryn, Ben and the overall story.
Granted, the show tried to show Maddie and Ryn's feelings for each other and they spent some time showing Ben moping after her - but in light of the significant strides made in the Ben/Ryn dynamic these scenes feel more than a bit hollow.
And anybody who has watched episodes 308 could just see the role of Maddie as it relates to interacting with Ryn and Ben getting smaller by the minute. Ryn and Ben now have their own little circle, one which only seems to include Maddie on the periphery. Nowhevere was this stronger on display than in Episode 308, with Ben and Ryn making lifelong promises to each other.
Tumblr media
Ryn: “I will live on Land. With you.” Ben: “On land. You mean, stay human?”  Ryn: “Yes. Here. Together. Human.”  Ben: “What about Hope?”  Ryn: “She can be with us. As a family.” Ben: “I can’t ask you to do that.”  Ryn: “It is my choice. When it is time, I will be human with you.”
Notice how Maddie was not even mentioned once during that conversation? And yes maybe it would have been a bit weird to include her in the dialogue . However this is not an isolated incident.  Later on Maddie is not even in the same frame when Ryn and Ben actually exchange a wedding ring and make a “til death do us part” promise. Let me repreat this: They are exchanging wedding vows and Maddie is not even in the frame.
Tumblr media
(Yes, technically not wedding vows, but only due to the circumstances surrounding them - the sentiment and meaning was there. FFS, she is even wearing white).
And sometimes it is something as simple as Ryn in 308 kissing Maddie on the cheeks and Ben straight on the lips.
Tumblr media
There could not have been a more clearer message than the contrast here.  And this was clearly intentional on part of the director considering these frames followed each other immediately.
And then of course we get the followup scene on the docks where Ben is literally standing in the middle between Maddie and Ryn, before turning and following Ryn, both leaving Maddie behind. Observe the contrast between that scene and the pier scene in Episode 203.
203:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
308:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Ngl,seeing her standing alone there in the dark hurt) And some of that can be viewed as a logical development of Maddie no longer being in a relationship with Ben (and whatever kind of relationship Maddie has with Ryn, it is clear that Ryn is not staying at Maddie’s place at all). Siren has always been about the relationship of the main characters within the tight-knit circle and it is clear that at this point in the story Maddie is not part of the inner circle anymore.
V: Maddie’s role in the story
And if Maddie would be doing something else, something central to the story of Bristol Cove, something that would valiate her character and make her essential to the plot in other ways, it might be enough for me or at least end up softening the blow. But is that the case?
The side characters that have the closest connection with her (Dale and her mother Susan) have not even appeared once this season. And we had Xander replace her in her role as the gun-carrying backup which Ben calls first when stuff goes down in episode 306. So far there has not been a critical “Maddie moment” this season that was absolutely essential to the plot. She figured out the reason why the pool was not working in Episode 307 but it was Ben who came up with an actual solution to the problem.
Tumblr media
(A caveat: Ben usually is the one who figures out solutions in the show (cf 208) so I might just be overreacting here.) But what exactly is left of the crucial role that Maddie had at the start of this season? Is she still as important as the other two main characters with regards to story development? I really hope the Finale will make me look like a fool for even asking that question. But I hate having arrived at a point where it even is a question once can ask legitimately.
VI: Previous acts of plot
This is not the first time the writers have decided to ignore established character traits in order to tell a certain story.  I have written before how it made no sense for certain storylines of Season 2 to play out the way they did in Episode 214 and 215 - except in the context of them serving the overarching plot.
Specifically, Ryn not knowing Ben's last name despite living together for weeks and months and suddenly going haywire after hearing it made little sense. And yet it was clear why it had to happen - because the writers wanted to tell a specific story. (A longer argument for what happpened and why can be found in the middle of this post if you do not want to take my word for it.) They wanted to do so because it led to great payoffs for the viewer:
1) We had an awesome discussion between Maddie and Ryn in Episode 214
Tumblr media
(Remember how emotionally intelligent Maddie was in that situation? Where did scenes like that go?)
2.) It led to several great scenes between Ben and Ryn and also provided further justification for Ben’s choices in 216.
In retrospect,  the plot contrivances of 214 were done by writer's fiat to setup a scenario that would test the relationship of the trio. This created more drama and paved the way for a satisfying payoff at the end of Episode 215/216. In doing so, the writers allowed character inconsistencies and plot contrivances to steer the story towards a predetermined outcome, to the detriment of character logic and past character developments.
And we can see a similar trend developing here. The end goal of the writers seems to have been the rock scene between Ben and Ryn at the end of Episode 308.
Tumblr media
And if you assume this to be the end goal in the current plot development...if the goal was to focus on Ben and Ryn...then there needs to be a breakup. Because huge parts of the storyline (stemcells, them going swimming, them making promises to each other etc.) do not work with Maddie in the picture.
But was it necessary to sacrifice parts of her character and have her acting in a manner inconsistent with her established traits in order to do so? (Maybe they had to rush it because of lack of episode time, but then why waste so much time on Robb and Helen’s ghost stories?).
And there is another problem: The success of this plot development will heavily depend on whether it will fit the personal preferences of the viewership. As I said above, while I would have preferred Polymarine I can live with and enjoy Ben/Ryn or Maddie/Robb.
But for die-hard polymarine and Maddie/Ryn shippers, I feel the results might be somewhat different. And this is only made worse by Maddie being unfairly treated by the writers in order to facilitate the overall plot development. I suspect many Maddie fans (regardless of their shipping preference) will have been disheartened about how the writers made Maddie behave this season.
I know I was.
VII: The parallels between Episodes 108 and 308 - and why they worry me
And there is another meta-reason why I am deeply worried about Maddie and her role going forward. And this has to do with the way in which Siren’s previous ten-episode season has been set up. In Season 1, it was Episode 108 that cemented the character development happening in that season. Episodes 109 and 110 served to defeat the big bad of the season and to introduce temporary setbacks that had to be solved at the start of the following season before the characters returned to the dynamics establied in 108.
Tumblr media
In short, while Episodes 9 and 10 were exciting, Episode 8 of Season 1 is the pivotal episode of the season. Ryn’s desire to learn and to stay on land, her first steps into human society...all those happened in that episode. There are also strong parallels in the way 108 and 308 treated Ryn’s relationship with Ben, even ending their screentime in the episode with a impactful scene between the two (”Will you sing to me” / “Til death do us part”). Other parallels include both episodes featuring an important event in a human’s life (a wake/a marriage), both episodes involving the whole Bristol Cove community etc.
And like 108, 308 was (IMO) a near-perfect episode in terms of performances, pivotal scenes and dialogue. Just by the sheer number of extras, costumes etc. involved the writers clearly wanted it to be important. And it was important.  It greatly drove forward the plot and I personally rate it as one of my favourite episodes of the show on its own for that reason.
But there is one major difference that seperates 108 and 308: Maddie was very much still in the picture (literally) and a plot-driving force in her own right.
And this worries me.
I expect the final two episodes will be about defeating the big bad of the season, as it was with Season 1. Maybe the season will even end the same way as Season 1 - with Ryn being on her own for a bit. Maybe she even goes back to the water for a longer time (or is forced to do so due to circumstances). But I also expect character development in season 4 to largely use 308 as its base.
And now you can see why I am getting concerned here about Maddie’s diminished role. I really hope the writers have not forgotten what a wonderful character they created in her and find better ways to use her in season 4.
There are plenty of options within Siren to give her meaningful screentime again (her spending more time with Xander and Calvin for example would also give more screentime to those two, which I would love to see). But whatever the writers chose to do in the future, I really hope that it does not involve Maddie acting out of character again.
Conclusion:
The way the writers wrote Maddie in Season 3 is not something that I agree with, nor does her diminished role in the central dynamics of the story sit well with me. Did it completely ruin the show for me? No. The mysteries of the sirens, the Pownell family saga, the question of whether Ryn has to permanently return to the sea, her child and the whole Ryn/Ben dynamic kept me entertained - and will do so in the future.
But Maddie being this off-base and not being in the main picture definitely does diminish the show for me - and I think I am not alone in this. When I look at the failed opportunities for her character it saddens me in a major way. Even though Season 3 is still an enjoyable and entertaining season for me, it could have been much more.

Summer 1996
“So, Hermione,” Sirius handed her a drink, he was grinning widely. “Tell us all about Percy back at school, is he a good boyfriend?”
“Dad,” Percy started, Hermione chuckled.
“He’s really nice, yes. My parents want to ask all of you to my Dad’s birthday in two weeks, they’re looking forward to meeting you.”
“Oh, wanting to meet the boyfriend’s parents already?” Persephone raised a brow. “We have to be on our best behaviour Sirius, they’re paying half of the things for their wedding!”
“Mum!” Percy frowned, trying to stand up to leave the room. “Let’s go, Hermione, it’s getting late…”
“Thought Matthew was going to take you to the movies?” Sirius raised a brow.
“I rather walk than stay here and be humiliated in front of my girlfriend,” The young wizard replied. “Honestly, you guys don’t act like this with Lyra, this is ridiculous…”
“Lyra’s an angel,” Sirius said with an accusing finger. “She’s never done anything wrong in her life and she’ll stay single until she’s forty.”
“The fact that she’s never been in detention doesn’t mean she’s an angel,” Percy scoffed. “And I saw her flirting with a sixth-year Slytherin the last term.”
“She what?” Sirius straightened in his place.
The doorbell rang and Percy was quick to stand up and answer it, Harry walked in looking rather anxious.
“Your parents are here?”
“Yeah?” The boy raised a brow. “Why?”
“Good,” He whispered. “I’m pretty sure Mel’s dad has been planning a way to murder me tonight and make it look like it was an accident.”
Perseus laughed.
“What?”
“Shh!” He looked over his shoulder. “He’s coming!”
Matthew’s imposing figure stepped into the entrance, Mel walked in after him. She was tinier than her father, but her scowl was enough to make people fear her.
“Lovely night, isn’t it?” Matthew asked out loud.
“Wonderful,” Mel replied sarcastically. “If only my dad stopped acting like a baby.”
“Watch your words, girl,” The man warned her.
Matthew Dumbledore’s daughters were usually calm, sweet daddy’s girls. However, whenever they had a disagreement people could just feel the power emanating from them. Now that Mel was older, it was really obvious that she had inherited her father’s character.
“Ruddy,” Sirius’ eyes were darting nervously between the two. “It is a lovely night, so let’s try to keep a nice attitude, shall we? It’s a group date! Love is in the air!”
“And it stinks of hormones,” Matthew replied angrily.
“Oh god,” Mel rolled her eyes, she turned to look at Hermione. “Hi, are you having a good summer?”
“Er… yeah,” Hermione stared at Mel’s dad nervously, he was usually the most charming man. “Yeah… and you?”
“It’s been good,” Mel walked up to Harry and he flinched, eyes immediately fixing on Matthew’s. “This is ridiculous!” Mel turned to Persephone. “Could you please talk to my dad? Harry’s been nothing but a gentleman in and out of school and it’s time he gets over his overprotective nonsense.”
“Alright, enough of this, Ruddy,” Persephone crossed her arms and looked at him sternly. “You know Harry since he was a baby! His parents are your friends! It’s family already, c’mon…”
“I’m sorry, but I find it a bit hard to believe that in a matter of months this boy dropped all the mischief and bad behaviour,” Matthew frowned. “The Potters are professional charmers, they would know how to trick a crowd.”
“Hark who’s talking!” Persephone exclaimed in disbelief. “You spent a whole year flirting with the whole school just to get Emily’s attention!” She turned to the children. “Which didn’t work, by the way.”
“My dad did what?”
Matthew’s eyes widened, he blushed a deep shade of red.
“That’s… that’s different, I was a kid.”
“I was a kid too!” Harry argued, finally finding enough courage after Persephone’s scolding. “I won’t use it as an excuse, I’m aware of how bad I was…” He looked down. “I just… I spent my whole childhood wanting to be like you and my dad… I saw an opportunity and took it.”
“That’s true,” Percy decided to back up his best friend. “He’s always admired you, Uncle Ruddy.”
“Admired?” Matthew grimaced. “Why?”
“You guys are legends,” Harry said. “And Mel is the coolest girl I’ve met. I promise I’m not dating her just to fool around… I’m…” Harry looked over at Percy and his mocking grin, Harry groaned internally, he swallowed his pride and fixed his eyes on the tall man in front of him. “I’m in love with your daughter.”
Mel beamed at his speech, she looked back at her father with her bright, sweet eyes and for the first time in the whole summer, Matthew felt ashamed of his attitude towards the boy.
“Fine,” He sighed. “You’re a good boy, Harry.”
“He’s amazing,” Mel responded, hugging Harry by the waist and looking up at him adoringly.
Matthew groaned, Sirius patted his shoulder and muttered something that sounded like ‘you’ve lost her, mate.’
“Hey, guys?” Remus suddenly appeared at the doorstep. “Hurry up, the movie starts in twenty minutes.”
“Moony,” Sirius frowned. “Thought Matthew was the only one chaperoning the kids?”
“He’s not here to babysit us,” Percy smirked. “Mel invited Tonks and uncle Moony suddenly had time to join us.”
“Really?” Sirius raised a brow, he walked slowly towards Remus, eyeing him up. “How come?”
“Ever since Mum brought her to talk about her work as Auror,” Percy explained. “He’s been awful social.”
“Uncle Moony has a crush,” Mel grinned.
“I don’t!” Remus tried to look offended. “I — I just want to spend time with my favourite nieces and nephews!”
“Huh,” Harry raised a brow. “Is that why you offered to take Tonks home separately?”
“You’re trying to woo my cousin, Moony?” Sirius stood in front of him.
“Oh, I saw the way they greeted each other this afternoon,” Matthew raised his eyebrows. “Pretty sure he’s wooed her for at least a month now…”
“Ruddy!” Persephone swatted his arm. “Don’t be vulgar!”
“And he still has the nerve to complain about Harry,” Mel teased, Harry now had his arm firmly wrapped around her shoulders.
“Seriously, it’s getting late,” Remus insisted, completely ignoring their comments. “And we don’t get to use magic at muggle theatres, so you don’t want to get caught in the middle of a long line…”
“I insist, we don’t need babysitters for our dates, we’re sixteen!” Percy whined as he walked out of the house followed by the rest.
“Tell that to Prongs’ car,” Matt snorted. “It’s lucky we have magic, otherwise you would’ve spent half of your parent’s money paying for a new one.”

June 1998
They had decided to make the party at Lupin’s place because it had a beautiful, wide garden. Usually, they would wait until July, but this was a special occasion.
Harry, Mel and Percy had finished their last year at Hogwarts.
The place was full of familiar faces, friends from school as well as their families, even some of their favourite teachers were there, even Snape, who was (unfortunately, in James opinion) part of the family since he was Joshua’s godfather.
James and Sirius had been snickering close to the man’s table, laughing at how absurd Snape was looking surrounded by colourful balloons and confetti.
“We can’t deny he’s been quite a decent godfather to Joshua,” James sighed. “Although Joshua has never been a problem, bless him, he’s all Lily. Snape’s lucky he got the quiet one, I can’t even imagine what he’d do if he’d gotten Cassia or Ivy.”
“Drop dead, probably,” Sirius smirked.
“I can hear you,” Snape turned around on his chair, looking at the men with a quirked eyebrow. “Loud and clear.”
James choked on his drink and quickly replied with an apology, Sirius couldn’t stop the silly grin on his face from widening.
“You’re worse than your children,” Snape sneered, standing up and moving away to get a drink.
“Yeah we’re happy to see you too, Snivellus,” Sirius snorted.
“Leo Regulus Black!” Persephone’s voice came from the kitchen.
“Sounds like my wife needs me,” Sirius excused himself.
Back in the house fourteen-year-old Leo is looking at his mother with an innocent expression that it’s not working at all.
“What’s the matter, love?” Sirius enters.
“McGonagall told me just now that she never got a reply for her last letter,” Persephone said heatedly. “She says our dearest son set fire to the Hufflepuff Keeper! And he’s got this ongoing prank war with Cassia and Ivy, did you know they somehow managed to turn Filch’s cat bright green?”
“To be fair, that one was meant for Dennis Creevey,” Leo said. “I can’t stand that git—”
“You’re grounded,” Persephone crossed her arms. “For the whole month. I don’t know how you did it but I know you intercepted McGonagall’s letter and you’re in big, big trouble.”
“C’mon Mum, don’t be such a bore…”
“Leo Regulus —!”
“Yeah?” Regulus Black walked into the kitchen, holding a piece of cake.
“Not you!” Persephone replied moodily.
“She’s talking to the other Reg, mate,” Sirius said, patting his brother’s shoulder as he walked past. “Glad to see you could make it! How’s life? How’s work?”
“I’m not telling you what my job is, Sirius,” He replied with a knowing smirk.
“Oh, c’mon!” Sirius whined.
“— and if I hear you tried to steal another toilet from the school’s bathrooms I’ll write a letter so they ban you from the Quidditch team!”
Leo gasped, his mother walked out of the room fuming and Sirius looked down at his son trying not to look too proud.
“Bad luck, boy,” Sirius sighed. “At least the twins think twice before messing with the school staff.”
“It was their idea,” Leo sulked. “I wanted to turn Filch’s office pink.”
Sirius snorted, he shook his head and ushered his son out of the house.
“That went well,” Sirius sighed, looking over at the garden.
Outside there were two large tables so all the kids could sit in the same spot. Harry, Mel and Percy were all together as usual, although now Harry had his arm around Mel and Percy was holding Hermione’s hand on the table. Next to them were Ron and Ariana, who was laughing so hard she was almost crying.
Matthew had suffered the last two years, Ron was Harry’s best friend right after Perseus, meaning he’d been part of their mischief, but Emily hadn’t let him scare Ron and he’d been dating little Ari for a year and a half now, she looked happier than ever.
Next to the big group of lovebirds were the Potter twins: Cassia and Ivy. The redheads where talking animatedly with Lyra and Leo. Further down were the Weasleys, Erick Flint and his cousin Jo, Neville Longbottom, Josephine and Luna Lovegood. Persephone’s nephews and nieces were also there, although they were seated at a different table.
Sirius had never been fond of huge parties when he was younger, but this one was completely different to the one he remembered from his childhood.
“Needed a break from the noise?” Remus spoke behind him. “Me too, but I think I should get used to it.”
Sirius turned around and smiled, his friend was standing there, holding his newborn and glowing with happiness.
“Little Teddy has entered the party!” Sirius rushed over to carry his nephew. “Look at him! Nice hair, buddy.”
Remus laughed, standing beside him.
“Tonks has been trying to make him change it to pink, but so far Teddy’s favourite’s are blue and green, she’s not happy about it.”
“Well I think he looks good,” Sirius made a funny face to make the baby laugh. “Isn’t that right, little Ted?”
“Don’t let him fall asleep,” Tonks said, looking slightly anxious. “We’re trying to keep him awake so he’ll sleep the whole night.”
“It’s fun, isn’t it?” Sirius teased. “Real fun to have a baby...”
Remus shook his head, chuckling lowly. “Well you tell me, you had four.”
Little Teddy started to squirm in his arms and Sirius quickly returned him to his father, Remus was happy to take him back. The couple walked out of the house with Sirius behind them.
“Elena’s first year was uneventful, I heard,” Remus grinned.
“Yeah, she’s a nice girl like Lyra,” He smiled. “Leo says she doesn’t hang out with him and Joshua a lot, but they look after her anyway.”
“They’ll come back, you know?” Remus pointed to Percy with his head. “He’ll be around for a while before he moves out.”
“Yeah, a year or two,” Sirius smiled at his son proudly. “He wants to earn his own money, and he’ll need a while for that, then he’ll get his own place and leave us… Blimey, he’s a man now, I didn’t have enough time to enjoy him, you know?”
“It’s not like he’s leaving for good,” Remus calmed him.
“No, but it’s not the same, is it?”
“What are you guys whispering about?” Persephone got closer and kissed her husband’s cheek.
“We’re running out of kids,” Sirius nudged her side. “How about we have another one?”
“Absolutely not!” Persephone raised a brow. “Easy for you to say it, you don’t have to carry them around for nine months!”
“You know I’d do it!”
“My answer is no and that’s final, Sirius.”
“Oh well, I had to try,” He pouted.
“Is that Teds?” James called across the garden. “Bring him over, Moony!”
“My favourite thing about parties is that everyone always holds the baby for me,” Tonks winked, walking away from the couple with her husband following her.
“Is only a matter of time before Percy marries Hermione,” Sirius shook his head. “At least Lyra still hasn’t shown any interest in boys...”
“Yeah, she hasn’t,” Persephone snorted. “Because she’s dating Ginny Weasley.”
“She what?” Sirius’ head snapped to the side quickly, he spotted Lyra in no time.
Ginny was shamelessly flirting with his daughter, something Lyra seemed to be enjoying a lot.
“Ah, I know that smile,” Sirius frowned. “Well, okay… at least she knows how to use it.”
Persephone laughed at his reaction, kissing his cheek again.
Tumblr media
“So what now?” Ari asked them with a bright smile. “What’s your plan? You guys will all live together for the rest of your lives?”
Percy made a face, Harry and Mel chortled.
“Nah,” Harry and Mel shared a look. “We’ve talked about it, actually…”
“I’ll work with mum,” Mel said excitedly. “I’ll learn all I can from her, she’ll teach me everything… then we’ll travel around the world looking for magical creatures for research and stuff...”
“You’re going with them?” Ron asked Percy.
The boy shook his head.
“I’ll make enough money to get my own place and then…” His gaze lingered on Hermione. He smiled. “Then I’ll do whatever she wants.”
Hermione rolled her eyes.
“Don’t be silly, you’ll know what to do by then, you won’t need to ask me.”
“Maybe,” He leaned and kissed her. “Doesn’t mean I won’t ask for your opinion, though.”
“You can join us if you want, Ron?” Harry offered. “I know you told your brothers you’ll help them with the shop they opened in Hogsmeade, but…”
Ron thought about it, Ariana was quick to intervene.
“Oh! Can’t you wait for me?” She said, her clear blue eyes staring at them imploringly. “I’ll graduate next year! If you wait we can all go together!”
“Didn’t you say you wanted to become a teacher?” Mel asked in amusement.
“Uncle Lupin said he’ll wait until Elena graduates to resign, and that’s six years away,” She shrugged. “Said he wanted to be around before his son was old enough to go to school — So travelling with you just like my uncle did might help me!”
“Sounds right,” Harry shrugged. “We’re not leaving until Mel decides it’s time, and that may take a while.”
“Well then, I could start working at the joke shop so I can have some money for the trip,” Ron smiled. “How long are we going to wait?”
“A year, maybe two,” Mel squirmed in her place with a huge smile. “It’s exciting, isn’t it? I can’t wait!”
Harry looked at her with adoration.
“Don’t worry, Mellow, we have time…”

Regency Werewolves, Chapter One
The first matter was, of course, finding a property with a plot of land large enough to meet their not insignificant needs. Simple acres of meadow and field would not do, nor would the carefully manicured gardens that so many of their station opted for. No, there needed to be an air of wilderness about the place, a whisper of nature overtaking, civilisation needing cultivation rather than the other way around.
Therefore Basil Hall was perfect. It had once belonged to a great aunt and when she had died, the bank had held it until the complex matter of inheritance had been settled. In truth, many of them had forgotten about the old place until their solicitor called, his voice every inch the brisk professional. Everything else had happened rather quickly - the signing of deeds, the appraisal and a letter or two to the parish church, informing them of their new congregation members. And so, just as spring was creeping over the fields, the Williamsons moved in.
If a gossip column had published an official profile of them, it might have went like this;
Lord Gordon Williamson - the patriarch of the family. Man with many affairs and many interests, though previous to the move, they had mainly been rooted in Scotland. He is known for a somewhat stern manner. However, the centering of his family was admirable and one many more husbands could stand to learn from. He liked cigars, port and hunting, all good strong masculine pursuits.
Lady Elise Williamson - the wife of Lord Gordon. While she could not be described as a great beauty, there was something attractive about her nevertheless, be it in a smile or in her conversation. She was a keen naturist and often took long trips to the Lakes or even into the Yorkshire Moors. As such, she was stout and of fine disposition, never taking to a sick bed a day in her life.
The Widow Selene Daviton - the sister of Lady Elise. Once married, once widowed, she relied on the company of her darling sister to keep her in society. They were inseparable and Selene ended up bringing up the children as much as her sister and indeed, her sister’s nursemaid.
Master Kingsley Williamson - the eldest son of Lady Elise and Lord Gordon. A scholar at heart, much to the pride of his parents. He showed little interest in the follies and pursuits of other boys his age, generally preferring to learn of his father’s business matters and responsibilities. He took the burden of heirship gracefully and without complaint.
Miss Alice Williamson - the eldest daughter of his Lord and Ladyship. While her brother was retiring, Miss Alice tended towards the wild. There was no new scientific endeavour she didn’t want to witness, no novel she didn’t insist on reading. Her chief joy in life however was riding. She would come home drenched in sweat and whatever weather was currently occurring outside, smile wide and body aching.
Miss Sybil, the youngest daughter of the family took great strides to distance herself from such unladylike behaviour. As Kingsley learnt from their father, she learnt from their mother. She knew the order of every utensil at a dinner table, how to make a wonderful bouquet and how to shoot a rifle perfectly without getting a smidge of ash on one’s dress.
Now, of course other cousins, aunts, uncles, godfathers, godmothers, long lost grandparents, very recently lost grandparents, devoted nannies, nephews and nieces appeared often (to speak nothing of the servants) but it is this five that kept a permanent residence at Basil Hall and so it is this five with which we will occupy ourselves.
On the day the pack arrived at Basil Hall the servants had already done an exceptional job. Paintings and statues had been uncovered, the dust sheets put away until the next season, beauty restored. The main bedrooms had been aired out and furnished with aplomb, fires set in each to chase away the spring chill. The bags had been sent on ahead and unpacked so every wardrobe hung heavy with fabric and all the small trinkets that provided comfort were laid out, ready to be used once more. There was still much to do - the guest rooms were still coated in a fine layer of dust and many of the bathtubs needed a good scrub with some iron wool, but it was more than enough to be starting with.
The only discontentment came from the groundskeepers. They had been instructed not to trim, chop or uproot a single plant until the family had arrived and given their appraisal. They had been given specific permission to pull ivy from the windows and algae from the boating lake, but no more. They were not pleased at the rather scruffy look this left the manor in, but what could they do? Perhaps back in Scotland, they liked their gardens resembling jungles. There was no accounting for taste, that was for sure.
*
The society surrounding --shire wasted no time in speculating about the Williamson family and what exactly their fortunes were. It seemed there was no haberdashery that wasn’t alight with whispers, no coffee house where there was a low grumble of voices. This was, of course, spurred on furiously by the fact that for the first month of their occupancy, they were entirely invisible. They left no calling cards, visited no homes and did not attend a single social event. If it wasn’t for the fact the manor had a chapel on its grounds, it might have been assumed they did not go to church. Their servants were extraordinarily tight lipped and seemed to be very occupied by errands which were always done in a rush. All in all, it was deeply unsatisfying.
But to everything a time. A few days into the new month and a rumour spread like fire through --shire. A rumour was soon confirmed as fact by a scullery maid talking to a stable lad who had paused to exchange words as she had ducked into the bakery.  The Williamsons had finally made themselves comfortable, had finally moved in completely and so it followed that they would be attending their first function the following week. All but Sybil would be attending, who was deemed rather too young to attend such an event. The event in question was the Lady Robins’s ball. She tried to pass off her excitement at the accepted invitation with a cool demeanour but a certain glitter in her eyes betrayed her. There would not be no missing invitees, no pointed denials. Everyone would be there.
*
In the manor, the family had no idea of the effect they had caused. They had been occupied by rather more pleasurable occupations than gossip. Alice had spent a great deal of time in the gardens, inspecting wild flowers, daydreaming with the clouds and following butterflies. There was something of the bohemian about her as she wandered through long grass, and what’s more, she knew it and it pleased her. Kingsley had principally been occupied with the library and irritating one of the butlers by being completely unable to settle on a organising system for the books. Only Sybil was restless, eager to meet the new neighbours and size them up - after all, if they were to remain here for a little while, would a new pack member be amongst these new faces? Alice had to marry some time and Sybil fully intended to vet and nose about in the affairs of every eligible man who so much as blinked in her direction. Accordingly, pestering her parents about when they were to take the bold new steps into society was her chief pleasure.
Her lady mother had held firm - there would be no parties, dinners or tea until after the first full moon. After all, they had to see if the grounds were indeed suitable. If they weren’t, well, they wouldn’t be staying. Plus, she added, it was better to meet the neighbours on a full stomach. Just in case. Nobody wanted a repeat of the Bristol incident, especially not the residents of Bristol. Sybil took to not only pestering her parents, but looking meaningfully at calendars and the date of the newspaper that was delivered every morning. Her mother ignored her. Just as meaningfully.
The day came with an air of expectation, even more so than usual. It was no longer just the day they changed, it was the day that once done with, would open all the doors of polite society to them of which they had been deprived for some time. The servants were sent home to visit their mothers or into the village to spend some of their generous wages. The gate to the long, winding drive was locked tight. The moon rose as gloriously as the sun, silver rays reflecting off the lake until it looked like a path one could walk up to meet her. Everything, even the most familiar things became unreal and strange in this light. Like one had stepped through into a book. In the cultivated gardens, the moon flowers bloomed, their pollen giving the air a perfume no apothecary had ever been able to replicate.
The family gathered on the steps. The girls wore nothing but their shifts, bare feet squirming against the cool stone of the stairs. The son wore his undergarments too, the parents opting for housecoats that could easily be shrugged off the shoulders. All was quiet. Birds called to one another, occasionally there would be the rippling noise as one moved upon the water. Only Selene spoke, the sharp edge of her accent softening here, as if the moon was a lover who could only be whispered to. Perhaps Selene, like her namesake, had a little more to say to the night sky. The moon crested, clearing the dark silhouette of the trees. For a moment it hung there, nothing moving, nothing breathing.
Then the first howl ripped through the night.
Selene had started shifting first, as usual. It was not a beautiful process. It was not fluid or gentle. It was claws and fur and the sound of bones breaking, reforming. Claws scraped across stone, fabric ripped and where there once was a woman, there was a monstrous wolf. It didn’t just sit, it hulked, dominating every gaze that caught it. Bright, intelligent yellow eyes sat above a mouth that seemed to be all teeth. It was not long before more wolf-language joined the first, the girls following Selene’s example, then the boy. The lady and lord of the house were looking at each other fondly, playing their usual game of who could hold out the longest. As always, Mrs Williamson won. When she did allow herself to change, it was with a sigh of relief as well as a cry of pain.
Before the moon had moved another inch in the sky, a wolf pack sat beneath it. Their colours were primarily shades of grey with splashes of white, except for Sibyl and Selene who were white with splashes of grey, just to be contrary. The smallest, if the brain could comprehend one of these beasts being the smallest, was Kingsley. There was something of the scout about him, his fur the darkest so he may dash in and out of the night almost entirely unseen. Alice was the strongest, her youth and wildness barely being able to be contained within the human flourished here, blooming along with the moon flowers. She had often lamented the fact she had to be a human at all and Mrs Williamson woke up frequently in the night, plagued by nightmares where her daughter finally abandoned the trappings of society and ran into a forest, never to return. She would have to check on her sleeping child to make sure that the dream hadn’t come true.
It was Alice that first broke, nipping at Kingsley’s tail so he turned around with a snarl. She immediately sprinted off, challenging him to a race. He would win, as he always did, but the point was the running, not the winning. The feeling of joy too big to name, the joy of having four paws and being a part of nature rather than just an observer of it. The joy of muscles burning and breath catching and the hundreds of scents that made up a tapestry of the grounds. So many things to see, bite, taste, fight.
Sibyl did not partake in the race, her snout pointed up slightly in the air as if implying that all of this was below her. But even she was not immune to the intoxicating magic that transformed them all. All the poetry she wrote at her desk, painfully slowly, trying to capture the beauty of the natural world like her much admired famous poets, she did not realise it but it was here, now, where the inspiration came from. Where the love of beauty and art came from, like a spring flowing into a river. She investigated flowers, lakes, gardens with inhuman eyes and found the experience almost revelatory. When you were a wolf, everything was more.
Selene wasted no time in hunting. She had been starving all month and here was her opportunity to satisfy the hunger that went beyond a mere need for food. She needed to taste the copper tang of blood, to shake off the shackles that constrained her for thirty days a month. No lacing, no dresses, no polite tinkling laughter in a ball room. Her mind would clear and her instincts would rush in to fill the gap, like the sea refilling tidal pools. The poor hare did not stand a chance, but it died well.
As for the Lord and Lady? Here their bodies did not ache or creak. They had no schedule, no work to be done. They could focus on feeling the ties that bound their family to one another, the subtle lines that shimmered like spiders gossamer in the mind's eye. There were no manners, no script on how to act. Usually a distance was constructed between them all. There was no such distance now. So they nipped and howled and nuzzled, keeping their pack together and keeping their pride deep in their canine hearts. Tomorrow, they would have to be people again. But here, they were just a family.

got7 reaction : their s/o is pregnant
genre : fluff
author’s note : there aren’t a lot of got7 posts lately, so i’ve decided to write for them.
Tumblr media
mark •
Mark and you were trying to actually get you pregnant, so it was not a surprise when you took the test and discovered it was positive. You thought of ways to announce the great new to your fiancé, you came with the idea of a small box with the test in it.
"I’m home, love." Mark yelled from the corridor, taking off his shoes and jacket. You hugged him from behind, as he jumped out of fear. "Looks like you missed me." He laughed, turning himself to press his lips against yours.
"I did, and I even have a gift for you." You announced, getting the small box out of a drawer. You handed it to him, with a huge smile on the lips.
He opened the box, and looked at the test. It took him a minute to actually understand what it meant. "Are you serious? Is it a prank?" He asked, his eyes shining. When you nodded, confirming that it was true, he let out a scream of joy. His calm side was nowhere to be seen.
Tumblr media
jaebum •
Jaebum noticed a shift in your behaviour, but couldn’t find an explanation. Were you getting tired of him? Were you mad at him? You seemed to be distant, and he did not know the reason behind it.
You did not mean to be so distant, you were just full of questions and worries after you found out about your pregnancy. You wondered if you could be a great mother, if you could handle the responsibility of a child.
It was when he saw you, on the floor, looking blankly at the test, that he began to understood. "Babe, aren’t you delighted?" He questioned, kneeling next to you. You shrugged, your head resting against his chest.
"You’re worried, and it’s understandable. However, I do believe that you will be the best mother our child could ever wish." He reassured you, already imagining you and the child playing the garden.
Tumblr media
jackson •
Jackson loved children, he had already expressed his desire to be a father in the past. You knew that he would be delighted, perhaps a little bit too excited over the new. You decided to tell him during a dinner with the boys at their dorm.
"I have something to tell you." You said, interrupting the dinner. You stood up, and bit your lower lip in apprehension. You felt nervous, and prayed that everything would go well.
"Go on, Jagi." Jackson replied, his attention now focused on you. The boys grew quiet, and curious.
"I’m..." The last word couldn’t cross the barrier of your lips. "Pregnant. I’m pregnant." You finished, staring at Jackson. His face lit up, his eyes were wide-opened, he seemed ready to scream.
"Oh my god, I’m going to be father. Oh my god." He ran to you, and hugged you tightly.

You did not know how he would react. You had mixed feelings, since you both never talked seriously about having children. You knew that he wanted to be a father in the future, but was he ready?
He was in the bedroom, reading a book. You wondered if it was the greatest time to announce your pregnancy. After a moment of hesitation, you entered the bedroom. "Jinyoung, we have to talk." Your voice sounded serious, maybe a little bit too grievous for the situation. It almost felt like you were going to announce that you were on the verge of death.
"Yes?" He responded, closing his book.
"In nine months, we won’t be two but three. I’m expecting your child." You told him, avoiding his gaze. A smile appeared in the corner of his lips.
"It’s wonderful, Jagi. Amazing." He kissed your hand, and muttered how delighted he felt.

He figured out before you could actually put words onto your symptoms. He pondered if he should let you find out alone, or if he should announce it.
He went out to buy a bunch of pregnancy tests, and waited for you to come back from your shopping day with your best friend. He had a bright smile on the lips when you entered the living room. You spotted the tests, and immediately frowned.
"What is it for?"
"You have nausea every morning. You cannot eat bacon anymore. Those are symptoms of pregnancy, Jagi. I brought you test, to confirm the great new." He explained, as you walked up to him. You nuzzled your face into his neck, feeling grateful.
"You’re truly the best."

bambam •
You both thought that you were ill. It never crossed your mind that you could be pregnant, you were in denial. You went to the doctor with Bambam, when he suggested you to take a test.
"What kind of test? Cancer?" Bambam asked, his eyes shooting wide open. He was worried.
"A pregnancy test, Sir. Your girlfriend has all the symptoms of pregnancy." The doctor explained, looking at you with sympathy.
This day, you both found out that you were carrying his child. Despite the worries, Bambam was gleeful. "I’ve never been happier, Jagi." He muttered in your ear, his eyes crinkling because of the smile on his lips.

yugyeom •
Bambam found the pregnancy test on the dorm’s bean, and thought that you were both aware of it. Obviously, he did not know that you hadn’t told Yugyeom, you were just waiting for the right time.
"Dude, you could have told us about your future child. Am I the godfather?" Bambam asked your boyfriend, entering the practice room with a joyful expression.
"What the fuck?" Yugyeom almost yelled, staring at his friend. "Your joke is stupid." He muttered.
"I’m serious, I saw the test. I mean, it’s okay if you don’t want me to be the godfather, I’ll still be your child’s favorite uncle." Bambam shut his mouth when he saw Yugyeom’s shock. "Well, Y/n is going to kill me."

a little bit of background for everyone about my headcanons about Kieran Branson. he’s tom’s oldest sibling, ten years older than him, there are three others between the two of them. although their father was a master tailor and had inherited their grandfather’s shop Kieran didn’t have the academics or the maths to be good at tailoring, which is how he ended up working at their uncle Colm’s mechanics.  it also turned him bitter.  he didn’t like that Liam ( the only other brother between him and Tom ) ended up their father & grandfather’s protegee and he doesn’t like that Tom’s always been smarter than him too. this bitterness comes out in anger towards the British but also belittling his siblings. Liam didn’t care what Kieran thought about him but tom, who idolized him, did. when he had to start work he followed Kieran to their uncle Colm’s mechanics, which is how he learnt about cars. it’s also where tom’s ‘told’ what he’s meant to be like around the English  ----Colm is just as extreme and bitter as Kieran--- and any comments from him that made him seem less than entirely committed had teenage Tom Branson verbally attacked;  calling him soft, asking if he’s “a man or a mouse”.  Kieran lives in Liverpool not by choice but because, with his politics and his bitterness, he pissed off the wrong people and lives there for his own safety.   it’s kieran who writes to tom when he’s at Downton telling him to get home over Easter 1916,  it’s Kieran who tells Tom that he needs to go to the meetings that end up with the burning of the Drumgoole manor and Kieran is the only one of Tom’s immediate family who does not attend his and Sybil’s wedding ---by choice.
Tom inviting Kieran to be Sybbie’s godfather is mostly because Liam’s unable to make the journey over to England but also to try and mend bridges ---at that point in time he is seriously considering asking him for a job after all.  Then him and Mary are grabbed by Alfred saying that Kieran’s downstairs, came in through the servants entrance and Tom really starts to wonder if he’s made a mistake.
Tumblr media
His face as he comes in is weary,   even as Mary’s talking his gaze barely leaves his brother and for a man who adores his family he looks scared, upset and worried all at once.   In the long time since he’s seen Kieran, Tom’s realised that he’s forgotten how much his brother can be.   Lines like “What would I change into ?  A pumpkin”  Push Tom more and more towards the edge.
Tumblr media
He’s angry at his brother. He’s angry for a lot of reasons but he’s angry that he has the gall to sit there and insult this family who got him out of the trouble that KIERAN helped get him into. He’s angry that his brother can sit there and insult him when he’s just lost the love of his life and isn’t allowed to return home. He’s angry that his brother refused to come to his wedding or even meet his bride, just because she was English, and shows himself to be just as bad, maybe worse, than the Crawleys.   However it’s his comment about Tom’s gradure that tips him over the edge  --- “Ah, c’mon Tommy, what? are you too grand for them now?”
Tumblr media
It’s not the first time that Kieran’s asked Tom if he’s ‘Too Grand’ for them now. He did it when Tom got constant top grades and opportunities through school, he said it when he was chosen for the Leinster rugby academy, he said it when he first went to work for a chauffeur in Galway.  He says it whenever Tom strives to make something of himself to try and make him feel guilty about it.  The guilt comes from other people’s opinions being dragged into it too, it put Tom in the room as the ‘other’ almost like he’s fighting ‘against’ people he’s meant to stand with.  He hates it but, before this moment, Kieran’s always succeeded with it. In this moment Tom’s lost too much and is too outraged at his brother’s behaviour to consider feeling guilty.  He doesn’t have anything to be bad around, their mother clearly raised him right but Kieran?    Their mother would tan his hide for behaving like this and they both know it which is where you get Tom’s   “My mother in law has been kind enough to invite you to stay and dine, and I’ll not let you snub her,  so get a move on. ”
Tumblr media
Kieran looks at Tom with this hardened, almost judgmental, gaze and EXPECTS Tom to back down during this whole thing. The last time he saw him he was a teenager who was easily brow-beaten down by him and he knew exactly how to get what he wanted from Tommy.  He’s not used to the man who stands up for what he believes in and what he wants, it’s a battle of wills and it shows.  Tom’s 10yrs his younger and Tom very much looks more uncomfortable and less confident than his big brother but he’s clearly clearly willing to be just as stubborn as his brother.   And Kieran gives in but it’s a clear shift in their relationship, in their dynamic and a bit of a rip that isn’t ever really fixed.  It’s a clear shift from Tom adopting Kieran’s type of politics which is “Hate the other and do whatever it takes to fight them” to “I don’t believe in types, i believe in people.” and it’s a really important part of Tom’s character arc, to the way the other people in the house start to accept him again because it is the first time that he’s put his foot down and stood up for himself since coming back to Downton ----Showing himself to be a young man with his heart in the right place who can and does make his own decisions.

AU where Allison and Luther are close in a platonic best friend kind of way growing up
When they're caught in the attic Allison, being number 3 and not feeling like she has to be the responsible one, had coerced Luther to break the rules for once in his life and have some fun (she brought some of her magazines and told him about her celebrity crushes)
He grew to be overprotective of her but in that responsible older brother kind of way, cause lbr thats what he feels he is as number one
When he got hurt and turned into monkey man she was there for him because ppl dont care as much if their best friend see them as a monster and she eventually convinced him to leave the umbrella academy because of it
He was her uhhhh best man of honour at the wedding (listen idk how weddings work) and she made him Claires godfather
Luther got a job as a bodyguard after leaving, and is very very good at it
When dear old daddy dies, Luther suspects Diego and doesn't believe Allisons protests because "he's a vigilante and is exhibiting suspicious behaviour, this is the kind of stuff we learn about on the job trust me it was him" so she calls him an idiot and he pulls the leader card, because the moment he steps back into that house Reggies influence is over him again
She gets mad at him and gets herself involved in Vanyas love life
He does feel bad about it though, and like maybe he should listen to her, but he doesn't want dads ghost to see him being weak because he's still afraid of him, because he hasn't been away from the house for long enough
Both Allison and Vanya have gone through extensive therapy after leaving. Diego went to therapy when he was with Patch to make her happy, Klaus' therapy is his escapism obviously, and Allison tries to force Luther to go but hes too scared, whenever the topic comes up he disappears into his work for a while
(When he resurfaces she calls him an idiot and avoids the topic for a while, cause she misses her best friend whenever it happens)
Instead of looking for the moon correspondence (cause he never went to the moon) Luther looks for anything that could give them a clue on the apocalypse in Reggies files and finds documents of fake/modified missions that he was sent on to keep him busy and on form in preparation for the apocalypse, including the mission that nearly cost him his life, and he has a breakdown over the fact that his fathers lies made him what he is, and that he couldve had a normal life if he'd just left with the others
Allison finds him absolutely broken and takes him up to her room where she puts on their favourite mixtape from childhood and paints his fingernails bright colours "Just like i did with Klaus when we were kids! You know, I caught him stealing my make up once and I was gonna get mad but he looked so embarrassed and ashamed that I just gave him some of the stuff I wasnt using anyway. After that, I painted his nails every time he asked me to"
Allison treating him like a person, like her best friend, teasing him and joking with him cheers him up and by the time she has to leave for her flight he's calm but he still looks very lost so she invites him to come see Claire "The few times I've gotten to speak to her she's always asked about uncle Luther"
When he gets absolutely shitfaced and gets laid and she finds out about it she's beaming because he's worried and cried at her for years that no one will love him because of the way he is
she does also punch him because he didnt tell her earlier, "You were hurt!! I had more important things to think about!"
He does still lock Vanya up but Allison gestures up such an angry storm that he lets her try to open it, only she cant because she's still too weak from the wound
She storms off to her room when he refuses to open it for her, and he doesnt dare follow
When Vanya destroys the academy he cant look at her without getting a furious look of "I told you so, idiot" back
The phone call scene has a couple more insults from Allison to Luther sprinkled into it
He apologizes for not listening to her and being wrong about locking up their sister but he's also spent his entire childhood taking leadership lessons from dad and he's just never gonna learn that listening to her is smarter than listening to what their dad taught them
Bonus:
She hits him on various parts of his head and torso with her notebook when she's annoyed
Luther googles furries when he's drinking his hangover coffee the morning after he got laid
Luther is the first to know about Allison being bi, and he's actually really glad cause it means he gets to talk about girls with his best friend, like all the boys do in the books he reads
(Klaus is the second one to know, and Allison is the first to know about Klaus being pan)
(("I just dont think gender plays into it whatsoever, you know? Even people of the same gender are all completely different"))

joint au verse with @peaceinourrtime - you’re the sunflower
in the spring of 1990, may mancini met tony stark for the first time. a customer at the bar she worked in, she knew his type and kept out of his way. he had other ideas. she was convinced to go on a date with him, and before she knew it she was splashed across tabloids as the party boy’s new arm candy. it was casual to begin with, but within the year, while on a road trip, the two eloped, and sealed the deal with a second, less spontaneous but small celebration with their families and friends in the summer of the following year.
tragedy struck later in 1991, and as tony took the reins of stark industries, may was given the responsibility of overseeing the philanthropic side of the company, taking charge of the foundation named after her late mother-in-law. the tragedy took a serious toll on the marriage, with tony falling victim to a variety of growing addictions, resulting in stints in rehab, occasional separations, and a couple of well publicised infidelities. there were good times, however, in the midst of it all, with a son being born in 1994 - leonardo “leo” anthony stark.
after a major health scare as a result of an overdose in 1996, things settled somewhat, to the point that the couple planned for another child and conceived by 2008. it was while may was carrying their child, a second son, that tony went missing in afghanistan. faced with the prospect of raising two boys on her own, may gave birth to alphonse “alfie” joseph stark some days before tony was found in the desert and finally brought home. it was not longer before she discovered her husband’s plans for the device that had saved him, and while wary, she recognised his intentions and the necessity of it as their world changed, brought about by the most hurtful of betrayals.
the added attention of iron man put a new kind of strain on their marriage. initially unaware of tony’s deteriorating health, may was under the belief that he was outgrowing her, that the attention and adoration he was receiving, tony would relapse once more and his eye would wander again. it took some months of piecing clues together (hiding his body from her, making arrangements regarding the company, regarding the inheritances of the boys) before his reckless behaviour began to make sense. she supported tony in his search for a solution, she and the boys almost falling victim to vanko’s plans in the process, but all settled in the end.
the two of them were heavily involved, through the maria stark foundation, in aiding those affected by vanko’s attack in the aftermath. it was then that they came across the story of a young boy who had lost his uncle to the drones, and had no one else to care for him. the starks kept an eye on the boy, named peter, and paid for his schooling, sending him birthday and christmas gifts, and keeping in touch. two years later, after peter implied he was not settling well with a foster family, and having made frantic phone calls after new york looking to see if tony was alright, may and tony began to look into adopting the boy themselves. peter was eleven years old at the time.
tony’s mental health took a turn for the worse in the aftermath of new york, worsened by leo joining the air force against his parents’ wishes, events involving the mandarin, sokovia, and a miscarriage shortly after. a daughter, aida lucia stark, was lost at 17 weeks in 2015.
around this time, unbeknownst to them, peter was undergoing some serious changes. it was tony who first realised that their adopted son had gained new abilities. after peter refused to inform may, fearing her response given her frequent worrying about both her husband and her eldest son ( who was beginning to develop his own technologies, similar to that of his father’s and godfather’s ), tony decided to tell his wife. her response was initially as peter expected, but was settled by tony’s reassurances that he had put everything in place he felt necessary to keep peter safe. he and tony were, however, most firmly in the doghouse after the latter took the former to germany without may’s knowledge of what was truly going on. her anger, however, was eventually forgotten with the news tony brought home with him after his fight with steve.
things seemed lower than they had ever been before, but may encouraged her husband to took time away from iron man. to focus on his health, on their family, to give himself time. by 2018, both at the age of 48, they were surprised to find they were expecting once again. they were expecting a little girl, who they decided to name mariella “mari” maria stark. may was some seven months pregnant when tony and peter disappeared into space in pursuit of thanos’ forces, and her eldest son went to wakanda to fight alongside his godfather. when the snap happened, she, alfie, and leo all survived, but tony and peter were unaccounted for. leo worked alongside bruce banner to try to locate his father and brother. it was bittersweet when tony returned, with no time left to spare, for the rest of the family discovered that peter too had disappeared. tony spent a month or so recovering, and their daughter was born shortly afterwards. peter’s loss was felt dearly, and while mari’s birth felt like somewhat of a new beginning, the hole in their family was never truly filled. they found out the day after her birth that mari was profoundly deaf.
with all hope seemingly lost, the family moved away from the city and spent the next five years trying to move on with their lives as best they could.
endgame: we’ve both spoken about tony dying, sometimes spoken about tony surviving. either can be included for the sake of plots / threads.
TL;DR: a big ass verse me and quinn have developed over months! essentially, may and tony dated while younger, got married before howard and maria died, and eventually had two boys, lost a girl, and had a girl, and adopted peter ( BECAUSE I’M NOT GIVING HIM UP ) in the midst of it all. we love it dearly, and talk about it mostly every day, and decided we wanted to put it on the dash in case anyone else wanted to interact with either of our muses in this au as it changes things up a bit. if anyone wants to interact with the kids too, that’s also fine.
so with that being said, if anyone wants to interact with either of us in this verse please please don’t hesitate to get in touch!
