summary: your brother, carlos didn't care about what you did at the paddock when accompanying him at his races as long as you stayed away from the drivers and their flirty antics. little did he know of your late-night rendezvous with his best friend, lando.

"stay out of trouble and stay away from the drivers," your elder brother carlos frequently muttered before dragging you to another one of his races. as long as you generally maintained a low profile, away from the impulsive pranks and flirtatious antics of the adrenaline-charged racers, he didn't care much about what you did at the paddock. carlos was confident about your sensible nature. little did he know, you had an affinity for bending the rules.

how ironic it was, that while he feared you falling for some ladies' man, you already had his best friend lando wrapped around your finger. funny, how he never noticed, not even when lando's eyes began following you around like a hawk watching its prey, or when his laughter rang out loudest at your jokes.

carlos, as much as you loved him, was just as clueless as any other old-fashioned protective sibling. the existence of your secret relationship with lando was something he probably couldn't even fathom.

after all, you and lando were experts at covering your tracks. the late-night rendezvous, those whispered conversations, the knowing smiles, and those oh-so-many incidents in lando's room before the race. carlos didn’t have a whiff.

just like a race car driver, you knew how to play with fire. manipulation was an art and you were an artist. the way you played lando, how you had him wrapped around your finger. he was completely unaware, thinking it was he who had the upper hand.

you grinned as you watched lando strut towards you from across the paddock. he stopped before he reached you, glancing surreptitiously at your unassuming brother before taking the final steps. your heart rate may have jumped just a bit.

"hey," lando dropped his voice to a whisper as he nudged you lightly with his elbow.

you smiled back at him casually as if nothing was going on. "hey yourself," you replied in an equally low voice.

carlos was nonchalant, busy ribbing one of the other drivers about a mistake he'd made in the last race. good old carlos. blind to the world around him.

"later okay?" lando murmured before he disappeared back into the crowd.

you simply nodded, knowing very well what he was insinuating. the adrenaline rush of the race, the shared dangerous secret, carlos blissfully ignorant of it all.

later, you found yourself in lando's room. amidst the smell of worn leather and motor oil, your heart fluttered erratically as he ran his fingers through your hair, his cerulean gaze fixed on you, filled with silent promises and unspoken words. the walls of the room, if they could talk, would recount a tale of burning desires and smothered moans. it was your refuge, a place where you defied your brother's rule, deeply woven into the sweet secrecy of your relationship with lando.

you found solace in the mischief of lando's smile and comfort in his musky scent during the intimate encounters in his room. in a world full of roaring engines, sweaty racers and heated competitions, you found your sanctuary in lando's mystifying gaze.

every race day, when carlos was obsessively engrossed in the mechanical symphony of engines, you and lando stole some more of these moments.

moments varying from quick pecks on the cheeks to passionate expressions of affection behind closed doors. somehow, carlos remained oblivious to the racing heartbeats and the unexplained disappearances.

perhaps his ignorance was a blessing in disguise. for though he was a good brother, he was also a fiercely protective one. such a revelation would surely set off an explosive reaction; maybe even affect his performance on the track or, worse, their friendship. but for now, you enjoyed living on the edge, a secret lover immersed in the adrenaline-soaked world of race tracks and high-speed romance.

for now, you reveled in the thrill of breaking rules and living life at your own pace, knowing full well that at some point, the race would have to end. and when it did, you hoped that the harsh reality wouldn’t shatter the beautiful illusion you lived in with lando.

Lieutenant Commander Fara - An ordained Neo-Universalist pastor, known to the USS Sorcerer's crew as "Padre", Fara is a member of the Benfa species, a former prey species on their homeworld.

The Benfa adapted to survive against their predators (now known as the Cajak species, also a Federation member) by evolving telepathic hypnotic headstalls, and the ability to produce Cajak pheromones as well as their own. This eventually led to hybrid Benfa-Cajak herds, and hybrid offspring- eventually called Benjaks- combining the four arms, muscles, strength, speed and horns of the Cajak, with the hypnotic headstalks and toughness of the Benfa. When they developed sapience, it was these mixed social groups that were the most successful at survival- the Cajak would do the hunting and fighting, the Benfa would defend the young and build shelters. Over the next 30,000 years, the two species ceased being predator-prey and became mutually beneficial partners. The first spaceflight from their world was symbolically commanded by a Benjak, flown by a Cajak, and the engineer was a Benfa.

However, over those 30,000 years, many times the Benjaks were used as scapegoats for various problems by leaders and movements across the planet- leading to social stigma against against Benjaks, laws against their conception, and outright violence against and mass murder of the hybrids. Luckily, the planetary government that emerged from the fourth major planet wide war around 400 years ago ended all such violence (a social stigma remains among some groups descended from the various anti-Benjak groups, but isn't acted upon- at least not without severe consequences afterwards) and Benjaks are now a small but sizeable portion of the planetary population ever since.

LCDR Fara is a member of the Neo-Universalist religion, which grew out of combination of the Unitarian Universalist movement, as well as a human fusion religion on the ancient colony world of Terralysium. The Neo-Universalist faith encompasses a wide search of beliefs from hundreds of different religions, encouraging members to study many religions, and find a personal pantheon and theologic beliefs that most speaks to them as an individual.

LCDR Fara uses his extensive experience with his own faith, and his studies of dozens of alien religions, to serve as an extremely effective and unifying force among the crew of the USS Sorcerer.

The room’s door opened and closed with a soft clic. “Faramir? Fara?” Boromir’s voice was worried as he padded toward the bed. Faramir did not answer and simply tightened the blankets around him. The mattress dipped at the foot of the bed. “Tell me what happened, Fara, please,” his brother pleaded. The silence stretched between them but Faramir was glad for his brother’s presence.

Yet, after some time, Boromir stood up and left the room. Faramir blinked tears away and curled up a little more on himself. Even his big brother couldn’t stand him. Only his mother had ever truly understood him, but she wasn’t there anymore and Faramir was left alone like a broken toy.

The mattress dipped again and a soft weight landed over him, making Faramir startle a bit and opened his eyes. Boromir was sitting beside him, carefully arranging their mother’s blue cloak with silver stars on top of the blankets without touching him. Faramir melted under the familiar garment, trying in vain to catch what was left if his mother’s perfume on the fabric. “Thanks,” he whispered.

Boromir smiled and held his hand out in a silent question. Faramir nodded and pressed his head into his bother’s hand, revelling in the feeling of fingers combing through his messy hair.

“Do you want to tell me?” Boromir asked, now looking serious. Faramir bit his lip. It was nothing out of the usual, really. And his father had been right to scold him for that. And yet…

“Father said that I have to stop rambling about Númenor’s history like a freak each time someone mentions a tradition of Gondor or ask a simple date.” he explained, his voice barely audible. And it felt like a heavy weight lifted from his chest as he told Boromir everything. “I don’t understand. Father called me his clever boy, before… before mum died,” he concluded. “But now, I’m never good enough. It’s always too much or too little. I act too childish, don’t know how to behave in public and so on…”

There was a silence where Boromir never ceased running his hand in his brother hair, before he sighed deeply. “You are worthy, Fara. So, so worthy. Father… he shouldn’t say these things to you. You are not a freak, nor childish. You are Faramir, and you are clever, passionate about ancient lore, shy but kind and always polite, and the best brother I could wish for.” Boromir declared in a fierce tone. “Can I hug you?”

Faramir didn’t even bother to answer as he bolted up and flung himself in his brother’s arms, effectively knocking both of them flat on the bed. Boromir laughed and held him tight as he sat up again. The sound made something break in Faramir and he started crying on his brother’s shoulder. “Thank you, Boromir. Thank you so much,” he managed after a while. “Love you.”

“I love you too, little brother.”

Faramir is 12 or 13 years old, and Boromir 17-18 years old. I love the relationship between them so much!

And this challenge is done! It’s the first time I try a writing challenge with prompts and I am mightily proud I managed to complete it, especially since April was so hectic. But sitting down (almost) every day to write about characters I like so much was very pleasant and gave me the opportunity to explore some thematics/characters/relationships I wouldn’t have written about normally. And I think that the very, very short ficlet about Maeglin might be amongst my favourite fanfics I wrote. Last week, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán made waves by flying to the United States to meet with Donald Trump—but not with sitting president Joe Biden. It was, at a minimum, a severe breach of diplomatic protocol, and one that threatens to unravel Budapest’s strained relations with Washington even further. Even Biden himself commented on the meeting, saying that Orbán—an authoritarian who has effectively unwound Hungarian democracy—was “looking for dictatorship.”

But there was one other meeting that Orbán took while in the U.S. that hasn’t received enough attention—and points directly to how Orbán has cultivated American conservatives to his cause and created a beachhead for Hungarian influence in Washington. On Friday, he spoke at a closed-door meeting at the Heritage Foundation’s headquarters in the nation’s capital. Joined by Heritage president Kevin Roberts and failed presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, Orbán spoke, according to a readout, in front of an audience that “included renowned U.S. right-wing politicians, analysts and public personalities.”

The event was, on paper, a somewhat dull affair, with Orbán covering matters ranging from Hungary’s “conservative family and economic policies” to the state of the war in Ukraine. Pulling back, however, the talk was nothing short of shocking. Instead of meeting with the White House, Orbán traveled to Washington to sit with the leadership of a think tank, using them as a platform to access and influence conservative Americans about both foreign and domestic policy.

All of which leads to one question: How, and why, did the Heritage Foundation become the go-to vehicle for Budapest’s budding autocracy to target Americans?

The answer follows several different tracks. On the one hand, Hungary has been shedding lobbying outfits for the past few years, dropping a range of P.R. shops and Twitter influencers to focus solely on Heritage. On the other hand, internal transformations at Heritage—and a willingness to shred its reputation as a bastion of Reaganite, and even democratic, credentials—led the think tank’s leadership directly into Orbán’s lap, allowing it to become little more than a mouthpiece for a strongman and a leading proponent for Orbán-style rule in the U.S.

During the Trump era, Orbán’s government ran one of the most prominent lobbying campaigns in the U.S., almost all of which focused on forging stronger links between Washington and Budapest. This was to some degree understandable: With Trump ensconced in the White House, Hungary became America’s preferred partner in Europe—not least for the authoritarian model Orbán set for Trump. (As Trump said of Orbán last week, “There’s nobody that’s better, smarter, or a better leader than Viktor Orbán. He’s fantastic.… He’s a great leader.”) According to the Department of Justice’s Foreign Agents Registration Act, or FARA, database, Budapest inked deals with eight separate American law or communications firms during Trump’s presidency—an unprecedented burst of activity.

Not that all of these lobbying efforts were traditional, or even successful. In one contract, Budapest signed a firm called Strategic Improvisation, Inc. As part of the arrangement, the firm’s president, a Twitter reactionary named David Reaboi, began pumping pro-Orbán content on social media. While Reaboi made tens of thousands of dollars from working as a foreign agent, it’s unclear what, if any, impact his tweets actually had. (Reaboi did, however, produce arguably the most unintentionally hilarious filing FARA has ever seen, revealing that a tweet in which he said he supported Hungary and was “not in this for the money” was, in fact, paid for by Budapest.)

But with Biden’s election, Hungary’s lobbying efforts collapsed. Some of the contracts ended after only a few months, while others—including the deal with Reaboi’s firm—were canceled the day before Biden entered the White House. As of this week, Hungary is one of the few nations without a single active firm represented in the FARA database.

But that doesn’t mean Hungarian influence has waned. If anything, it’s simply shifted—using loopholes and workarounds to dodge disclosure requirements, while nonetheless wooing conservative Americans and staking its ties in Washington almost wholly on a Trump victory this November.

Enter the Heritage Foundation. While Heritage grew to prominence in the 1980s as a font of Reaganite policy, in recent years the organization has undergone a monumental shift in terms of both policy and priorities. Rather than persist in its stolid dedication to conservative values, Heritage has swung in a far more reactionary—and far more authoritarian—direction in recent years. Across the policy landscape, Heritage has become little more than an intellectual breeding ground for Trumpist ideas.

While much attention has understandably focused on Heritage��s so-called “Project 2025,” which provides a roadmap for Trump to seize as much power as he can, such a shift has extended to foreign policy. This has been seen most especially in Heritage leading the effort to gut funding for Ukraine. But it’s also evident in the way Heritage has endeavored to anchor its relations with Orbán, making Budapest once more America’s preferred partner in Europe—regardless of the cost.

Much of that shift is downstream from Heritage’s leadership, overseen by Kevin Roberts. Appointed as Heritage’s president in 2021, Roberts immediately began remaking Heritage’s priorities with a distinctly pro-Orbán bent—and began opening up Heritage as a vehicle for Hungarian influence in the U.S.

Part of that involved things like last week’s confab, one of many meetings between Roberts and Orbán. (After one 2022 sit-down, Roberts—who, among other things, has said he doesn’t think Joe Biden won the 2020 election—posted that it was an “honor” to meet with Orbán, praising his “movement that fights for Truth, for tradition, for families.”) But the relationship is structural as well: Heritage, in an atypical move, finalized a formal partnership last year with the Danube Institute, a Hungarian think tank that appears to exist only to praise Orbán’s government.

The Budapest-based Danube Institute is largely unknown in the U.S., but it has transformed in recent years into one of the premier mouthpieces for propagating Orbánist policies. While it is technically independent, it is, as Jacob Heilbrunn notes in his new book on the American right’s infatuation with dictators, located “next to the prime minister’s building and funded by Orbán’s Fidesz party.” Indeed, the Hungarian think tank is overseen by a foundation directly bankrolled by the Hungarian state—meaning that the Danube Institute is, for all intents and purposes, a state-funded front for pushing pro-Orbán rhetoric.

The Danube Institute claims it is dedicated to “advocat[ing] conservative and national values and thinking,” which almost always ends up with the institute praising Orbán’s pronouncements. It has become, according to Hungarian journalists at Atlatszo, “one of the main tools of the Orbán government’s ideological expansion abroad”—and one of the “main vehicles” to “building a political network in the United States.”

Such focus makes sense in terms of the Danube Institute’s personnel. For instance, the institute identifies arch-reactionary Rod Dreher as the “director of [its] Network Project.” The Southern Poverty Law Center obtained Dreher’s contract, which described him as an “agent” who would connect with a “circle of Christian-conservative contacts” on the institute’s behalf, while also writing publicly in praise of the Danube Institute’s “achievement[s].” Along the way, the Danube Institute began doling out significant grants to a range of other American conservatives, such as provocateur Christopher Rufo, who received tens of thousands of dollars, as well as a number of writers published in The American Conservative.

Most important, however, is the man currently running the Danube Institute: John O’Sullivan, a British conservative who once served as the director of studies at—you guessed it—the Heritage Foundation. “With his extensive connections in the conservative universe, [O’Sullivan] became Orbán’s conduit to the American Right,” Heilbrunn noted.

Unsurprisingly, the key to O’Sullivan’s and the Danube Institute’s outreach to American conservatives has been the Heritage Foundation. A post in early 2023 from the Hungarian Conservative noted that the Danube Institute and the Heritage Foundation had “signed a landmark cooperation agreement, deepening Hungary’s transatlantic relations.” While the formal cooperation agreement hasn’t yet been published, the summary noted that “each year four researchers from the Heritage Foundation will visit Budapest and work with the Danube Institute as visiting researchers” and that Heritage “will also organize more joint events” with the Danube Institute in the future.

The two have already begun operating closely, co-hosting the Danube Geopolitical Summit last September. Featuring both Heritage and Danube Institute leadership, as well as a number of Hungarian officials, the conference centered on many of the aforementioned themes Orbán routinely highlights, railing against so-called “wokeness” in Western democracies. At the conference, James Carafano, Roberts’s key adviser at Heritage, “stressed the importance of building transatlantic connectivity,” saying he was “so proud to be associated with the Danube Institute.”

While the arrangements with Americans like Dreher appear to contravene America’s foreign lobbying laws, the relationship between Heritage and the Danube Institute unfortunately appears to fall outside of the purview of things like FARA. All of which means that we have no idea how much funding may be flowing directly from Orbán’s regime to the Heritage Foundation—and what this “landmark cooperation agreement” between Heritage and the Danube Institute actually entails.

But we’ve already seen what the arrangement looks like in practice. While the entire relationship between Heritage and the Danube Institute—and between Budapest and American conservatives writ large—can seem like an overwrought, overly complicated series of agreements and associations, zooming out, the links become clear.

In Hungary, a state-funded organization that serves as little more than a propaganda arm for Orbánist policies—and which has already directly funded a number of American conservative writers—has formally partnered with an American think tank that’s collapsed into little more than a bastion of Trumpism. Both have thus provided platforms for one another, reinforcing each other’s efforts and reaching mutual audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. All the while, they’ve done so in a manner that hasn’t required any transparency about finances or expectations and that skirts America’s current foreign lobbying laws—keeping both Americans and Hungarians in the dark about the relationship.

It is, in many ways, unprecedented. While American think tanks have seen a range of dodgy funding streams in recent years, we’ve never seen anything like the partnership unfolding between Heritage and the Danube Institute. All of which makes Orbán’s equally unprecedented trip—when he visited the former president, as well as a pro-Trump think tank, but not the current White House itself—last week that much less surprising. As Orbán himself said an interview with Hungarian media after his talk in Washington, when it comes to the Heritage Foundation, “Hungary has an honored place.”

Sikorsky reveals RAIDER X prototype for the US Army FARA competition

The program of the new armed reconnaissance helicopter aims to develop a successor to the Bell OH-58 Kiowa.

Almost a decade ago, the U.S. Army withdrew its latest helicopter designed specifically for the attack reconnaissance mission - the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior. Sikorsky has now presented the RAIDER X, its concept for a fast, agile and capable composite coaxial helicopter that will equip future aviators to face evolving threats from peers and near peers in the most difficult environments.

As the video in this post highlights, the RAIDER X was specifically designed as a prototype for the prototype competition of the U.S. Army's future armed reconnaissance aircraft (FARA), part of the U.S. Army's effort to revolutionize its enduring aircraft fleet as part of what is known as Future Vertical Lift (FVL).

Since retiring the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior fleet, a combination of AH-64 Apache helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been used as replacements, performing the attack reconnaissance mission in the best possible way.

But similar threats require next-generation aircraft specially designed to stay ahead of combat through continuous evolution. Unlike the Kiowa Warrior, the FARA, the main priority of modernization of Army Aviation, is a strategic resource at the level of the Division, Corps and Joint Forces that operates in the depths of the battle space. And it is the only reconnaissance platform that offers deep reach, providing a level of survivability never before obtained in Army Aviation.

Sikorsky, one of the two companies competing for FARA (the other is Bell with Bell 360 Invictus), is offering RAIDER X. Flying low and fast to stay hidden below the tree line, RAIDER X will provide crucial intelligence and keep forces connected through a secure communications network. Built to find, fix and end anti-access/anti-denial (A2AD) and enemy forces, RAIDER X operates in contested environments at the front of the fight. It is a sophisticated sensor, a central network hub and a powerful armed reconnaissance helicopter, all in one.

“RAIDER X is a complete weapons system,” said Jay Macklin, Sikorsky's director of FVL Business Development and retired U.S. Army aviator, in a Sikorsky press release. “It provides significant reach, survivability and lethality – much more than exists in today's enduring fleet. RAIDER X will be connected to the network as a key part of the combined armed force, allowing the ground commander to see and shape the battlefield."

With an increasingly complex future threat environment and a rapid pace of technological change, allowing quick updates and putting real-time decision-making closer to combat is critical to the success of the mission. RAIDER X was developed specifically with the Army's Modular Open Systems (MOSA) Approach to provide advanced capacity and allow for fast upgrades. Its adaptability is the starting point for decades of innovation.

This fusion of superior physical performance with transformational digital capabilities is exactly what Lockheed Martin's 21st Century Security strategy seeks to achieve - to help fighters meet the challenges of future multi-domain missions.

X2 technology, the basis of Sikorsky's coaxial helicopter design, allows the RAIDER X to fly faster and farther than single main rotor helicopters, while carrying a significant payload. The speed, range and integrated mission systems of RAIDER X make it an especially effective and improved strategic resource in the vast expanses of the Indo-Pacific region.

The X2 designs also allow the inherent growth of the weapon system compared to the limitations of single main rotor aircraft. All these attributes allow RAIDER X to operate at longer ranges with higher speed to the target and a high degree of situational awareness.

With its maneuverability at low and high speed, the RAIDER X stands out in the lower-level air domain (LTAD) - the space between the ground and 30 meters. RAIDER X is a networked sensor package that supports the joint domain, providing greater flexibility to the joint force commander.

Re-drawing & re-coloring

Hey guys, I've been redrawing an old drawing of mine for a few days and painting it with my painting program and wanted to show you how far I've come so far

As you can see, I drew the original picture by hand and colored it in with pencils Since I didn't want to ruin the picture with a painting I kept it simple

I took the photo after I was done with the background. I've been experimenting with the different ways to paint (and I'm glad there are different layers too) and I have to say I love the sun and it's reflection in the water.😍 I'm also very happy with the trees especially since I painted it with just one paint tool and one color and yet it has this beautiful different colored foliage effect. I don't think I'll need any shading or anything like that either

On the last photo you can see my almost finished painting. Now only a few light and shadow effects are missing.

Funnily enough, this is the area where I have the least experience. But I picked out some real life pictures and some tutorials and I hope that I can manage it somehow.

Those of you who may have recognized the style of the Gi, or even Lloyd himself, will have figured out which season this scene is in by now. The funny thing is when I was looking for pictures to see how the rooms were designed (respectively the walls and the floor) I noticed that the balcony railings and the door are wrong.😅

Actually, it should have had a shogi door and the railing should have been closed and looked more Asian. But apart from that I am very happy with the picture.

This was also my first time painting a window pane AND I LOVE IT!

Ehehehe time to make the sad little meow meow suffer even more! Content warning for blood, injury, and maybe mild gore/self mutilation if you look at it a certain way? Enjoy~

Split in Two ------------------------------------- Pho'Bous woke before Fara's Joy dare rose above the mountains, a throbbing, dull, ache in his chest and throat. He quietly groaned, morning pain always sucked, especially when it covered so much area, though, he had never felt it quite like this before. Was this from pushing himself too much the other day?

Whatever. He had to get to work. It didn't matter if nobody else was awake yet, he had to make Kezrue proud. He jotted down a quick note to leave behind just in case anyone came looking for him, then left. Taking his bag, and borrowing another, as he did. Trudging through the crunchy morning snow, he honestly quite missed the coast, and Tippa! He missed both. He was from Tippa after all, and temporarily lived near the coast for school and therapy. How he would love if they were located somewhere warmer....

He did notice his coat starting to grow thicker lately, and a bit more wild, was that an effect of this region? Or.... part of the changes? He has heard stories about odd changes to the fur of other giglin before, but there was no way that was this, right?

He kept walking.

Gently attempting to soothe the pain in his chest, it started to feel more like he had been slashed than just a dull ache. He began to run a claw over the pained area, it almost felt like it dipped in? And whenever his claw went in to the dips it hurt some... maybe he should stop doing that. Oh! Perfect distraction! A snow hopper! is what he thought as he saw one of the small critters come near. He lowered down some, taking a weapon out from his bag, then, suddenly, struck as fast as lightning, killing it. He took it gently, setting it in his bag. Taking a life always felt so nasty, but honestly? He was starting to get used to it. He just hoped he'd never have to........

Oh hey some berries! He quickly turned tail to gather some of those as well, after all, alot of members don't even bother with eating meat! Hunting alone wouldn't be enough to feed everyone. He harvested a decent portion of them, but left behind a decent portion, the beasts needed to eat too after all. Ahh.. he missed feeding the feral scatties back in town, he would've adopted one if he could've cared for it, but alas... hopefully they got someone else to feed them. Maybe someone who didn't vent to them as much too, he thought, making him chuckle a bit. He really vented to some scatties? Now he just keeps it all inside. Nobody else gets bothered by it, so it must be fine!

Ow... he ached even more. Maybe he just needed to eat something? No... it wasn't in the right place for the hurt to be from that. He itched at the pained spots some, even though it made them hurt more and-

His hand went in.

He hissed in pain and tensed up in a mix of fear and confusion, quickly whipping his hand out of the now gap in his chest, only causing it to open further in his panic. Only causing him more pain. He hissed again and collapsed, Seeing now his hand was covered in gooey, clot like blood. Clearly whatever this was, was at least a few hours old and-

He hunched more in pain, practically balling up from the suffering, the worst part being that he could feel the control he had over each half, and he could feel it wasn't done opening.

He reached his hand over to one of the spots, clenching his jaw before suddenly RIPPING more of it open, mask dripping nearly blinding him, but he didn't let his pain stop him. He could feel that the lips of the gap went up his throat and through his lower jaw, so he reached up, bloodily prying it open. He could barely hear anything through the pain, surroundings turning to abyssal nothingness as he finished splitting it open. Breathing and wheezing heavily, face and chest mouth both as agape as the split now running through him. Ears ringing and body shaking.

After more than an hour, his senses had finally fully returned to normal. Body still shaking, he got up. He stumbled some as he did, stabilizing himself against a nearby tree. Still breathing quite hard, he didn't even notice how much he had soaked the snow below. Still in a form of daze.

After awhile longer he finally looked around his surroundings, Fara's Joy now into the sky. And so, he forced himself to stumble along like a staggering corpse. He had to make Kezrue proud. No matter the state he was in.

He continued along, gathering materials for fire, for tents, and for food. Still not... fully there as he did. But what did that matter anyway? He was going to make Kezrue proud.

Much, much, later he had finally come back to his mind fully. One bag fully packed, the other half full. Each filled with goodies, meats, fruits, some nice flowers for the smog imps among them, and of course, some lovely non edible stuff as well. The gap he had gained had closed itself up for now too, in response he covered as much as he could with his fur. Nobody needed to see after all, all they needed to see is what he brought back for camp! He should return soon anyway, shouldn't he? Don't want people thinking he's dead!

So, he began his trek back. He honestly didn't realize how far out he had made it until now. But even despite that the trip was still quick while he had his thoughts filling his mind. Those helped so often, didn't they? I mean, they we're even helping him help everyone else! Isn't that just lovely?

So, so, lovely.......

Back at camp he put everything away where it belonged, taking only a brief break for some food and water, then preparing to go out again. After all, the more he’d help, the better things would go, right?

DOJ Tried to Pull a Fast One and Got Caught

Typically, if the Government is offering to a defendant that it will either drop charges or decline to bring new charges in return for the defendant's guilty plea, the plea is structured under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 11(c)(1)(A). An agreement not to prosecute Hunter for FARA violations or other crimes in return for his pleading guilty to the tax misdemeanors, for example, would usually be a (c)(1)(A) plea. This is open, transparent, subject to judicial approval, etc. In Hunter's case, according to what folks in the courtroom have told me, Hunter's plea was structured under Federal Rule of Criminal Procedure 11(c)(1)(B), which is usually just a plea in return for a joint sentencing recommendation only, and contained no information on its face about other potential charges, and contained no clear agreement by DOJ to forego prosecution of other charges. Instead, DOJ and Hunter's lawyers effectively hid that part of the agreement in what was publicly described as a pretrial diversion agreement relating to a § 922(g)(3) gun charge against Hunter for being a drug user in possession of a firearm. That pretrial diversion agreement as written was actually MUCH broader than just the gun charge. If Hunter were to complete probation, the pretrial diversion agreement prevented DOJ from ever bringing charges against Hunter for any crimes relating to the offense conduct discussed in the plea agreement, which was purposely written to include his foreign influence peddling operations in China and elsewhere. So they put the facts in the plea agreement, but put their non-prosecution agreement in the pretrial diversion agreement, effectively hiding the full scope of what DOJ was offering and Hunter was obtaining through these proceedings. Hunter's upside from this deal was vast immunity from further prosecution if he finished a couple years of probation, and the public wouldn't be any the wiser because none of this was clearly stated on the face of the plea agreement, as would normally be the case. Judge Noreika smelled a rat. She understood that the lawyers were trying to paint her into a corner and hide the ball. Instead, she backed DOJ and Hunter's lawyers into a corner by pulling all the details out into the open and then indicating that she wasn't going to approve a deal as broad as what she had discovered. DOJ, attempting to save face and save its case, then stated on the record that the investigation into Hunter was ongoing and that Hunter remained susceptible to prosecution under FARA. Hunter's lawyers exploded. They clearly believed that FARA was covered under the deal, because as written, the pretrial diversion agreement language was broad enough to cover it. The DOJ, trying to pretend that it is as pure as the driven snow, threw Hunter under the bus at the last moment to keep the scent of scandal off them.

This angered Hunter and his team, so they decided to say "skip it" and go to court.
