You ever think about Hans Christian Anderson's Wild Swans but set in a fantasy historical c-drama where the Empress Dowager curses the 12 imperial princes?
Well apparently I did, so I made a little cover for that hypothetical situation and had a lot of fun with it!

I love you, media and music based on folklore, mythology, and old stories passed on from generation to generation. I love you, people who take these sorts of things “too seriously” and begin genuinely analysing what’s generally overlooked as a silly story. I love you, people who both romanticise these stories and point out the very real horror that lies in a lot of them. I love you, people who refuse to let the stories and folklore important to their culture fade away, even when for hundreds or even thousands of years people have attempted to erase their history and culture. I love you, people who reclaim their people’s stories and tell them from the mouths of those it originally belonged to. I love yo

Do you love fairy tales? I want to hear from you!
EDIT: I will be closing the survey on November 9th! Thank you everyone who has participated!!!
My name is Ainjel Stephens and I am a PhD candidate in the Folklore department at Memorial University of Newfoundland. I am currently conducting a research project on fairy tales reception by queer-identifying individuals for my PhD dissertation under the supervision of Sarah Gordon. The purpose of this study is to learn how people who feel queer or identify as queer think about and respond to fairy tales.
Tumblr media
Artist: Gustave Dore
If this sounds like a project you would be interested in participating in, then I invite you to take a short survey where you will be asked a few questions about who you are, as well as reflective questions about your thoughts and feelings on fairy tales, and if these tales are “queer.” It should only take about 10 minutes of your time to complete.
The survey asks if you would like to participate further with an interview with myself in order to discuss your thoughts and opinions on fairy tales. This interview will be a recorded hour-long interview through video conferencing platform Tauria or Webex. If you select yes, I will be in contact with you with further steps. If you select no, then that’s it! Thank you for participating.
To participate, you must be the age of majority and no younger than 19, have fairy tale knowledge in English, and identify with the term “queer.”
If you are interested, click the link below to participate in the anonymous survey.
If you have questions or want to chat further, you can contact me at [email protected] or through my inbox on my project blog, www.diamondsandtoads.tumblr.com/
If you know anyone who may be interested in participating in this study, please send this post along.
Thank you for reading!
The proposal for this research has been reviewed by the Interdisciplinary Committee on Ethics in Human Research and found to be in compliance with Memorial University’s ethics policy. If you have ethical concerns about the research, such as your rights as a participant, you may contact the Chairperson of the ICEHR at [email protected] or by telephone at 709-864-2861

version of Pinocchio where he's told what to do to become a real boy, but constantly struggles to do it until he realizes that he never wanted to be a real boy. he was only trying to be a real boy because it's what she was told by everyone that she needed to do. this whole time, she was actually a real girl acting like a puppet trying to be a real boy. she only stops having a puppet body once she accepts her true nature and asserts her girlhood in defiance of the destiny laid out for her. trans Pinocchio when

Once I discovered a game that is a dark rewritten version of Pinocchio, like there is of Alice in Wonderland I had to base a crossover ship collage on them. In American McGee's Alice Madness Returns Alice Liddell has a steampuke dress and the series has some steampuke-like traits through its take on the Mad Hatter, along with the second game having Alice turn herself into blue colored butterflies whenever she dashes. Giving her common traits that one could use to feature her beside P, the nickname given to the humanoid Pinocchio as he is mostly addressed as "boy" in the game. Three of the Tumblr posts I had found on the two had them be featured with Disney's Alice and Pinocchio, like they were comparing Disney's child friendly versions of the two with their darker counterparts.
I know that while people have enjoyed the story plot of Lies of P, they aren't found of the way that it was very easy to die in one or two hits, but I still think that they should be credited for story telling. Like the American McGee's Alice franchise was. Just to get this off my chest, but whenever I hear someone say Lies of P, it feels like they were saying "Lisa P."
I had trouble coming up with a title for this collage, with Lies of P Pinocchio mostly referenced as simply "P," I ended up with "Palice." It was that or something like "Alichio," "Pinolice," "Alinocchio" or "P Liddel." What do you think it should be, even if you prefer to ship them as friends than lovers?

OFFICIAL Opening DAY
I wanted to clear up some questions and timeline for those not sure if they want to join yet! First, this is a Bang, so Authors will be going first! -That being said we are allowing Artists to submit if they like some inspiration pics to authors who finish early! Second, this theme is fairly open to interpretation; you are not expected or required to do Grimm's Fairy Tales. They may be the most popularly known ones, but that does not make them the only ones. Modern setting is not banned, it just has to feature elements of a Fairy Tale. For the purposes of this Bang, A fairy tale is a story that belongs to the folklore genre. Such stories typically feature magic, enchantments, and mythical or fanciful beings. Myths, Folklores, and Legends are allowed to be adapted, but anything relating to a current religion people follow or important folkloric figures SHOULD be treated with respect when adapting! So stories relating to the Greek, Roman, and Norse pantheons, for instance, are allowed, as well as folklore figures like Robin Hood or Mulan as examples. Original but on-theme stories are also allowed, as long as they feel and have relevant Fairy Tale aspects.
Third, the timeline! January 13th - Voting/Interest Check Opens February 13th - Sign-Ups Officially Open March 13th - Sign-ups Close for Authors May 30th - Summary Submissions Open (50% work due) June 13th - Summary Submissions Close and Sign-Ups Close for Artists June 15th - Claims Start July 31st - Group Check-in August 13th - Final Check-in (Call for pinch hitters) September 13th - Posting Starts
Posting Will be done to AO3 under a collection set up for the Bang and site of the Artists's choosing to host their work. The artists are expected to be in contact with their Authors to provide a link to their work to link in the fic itself. NEITHER work should be posted publically until September 13th!
Server Rules: •Be Courteous and Respectful to Everyone in the server. •Keep NSFW in the labeled areas. •Keep discussions to their relevant areas. •Do not share anything posted here without permission (This can be disregarded if they themselves utilize a link to another page). •You must be at least 16 years of age to be in this server. BANG Rules: •Do not share art or fic outside of the server-assigned areas besides with your beta privately. •Posting will begin on the 13th of September and be expected to be done (at least a first chapter uploaded the week of) with the rest of the fic to be completed and uploaded on a schedule your artist is comfortable with if their art is to feature at a particular point. •All of your fic should be uploaded no later than October 13th if you want to roll out chapters over a period of time. •Claims will be limited to one fic to artist ratio until a full 24 hours have passed to give everyone available a chance to choose before a second claim can commence. •If you are both an artist and an author, you will be able to participate in the second run of claims (6 hours after), Depending on which time zone is most convenient for the majority of users. •No users under the age of 18 can choose from any fic/art rated Mature+ •Fics are to be at least 3k in length.

Okay I was so wrong about what this show will be about but I love fairytales so I am so excited! Like, you don’t understand, I was in a production of Grimm Tales a few years ago as a Cinderella type character and I’ve been obsessed with fairytales ever since, this is literally my niche. We are so back!

Just thought about how weird it is that we as a society have sort of universally accepted that Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf are gonna end up a romantic thing. Like there was NO romance in that fairy tale. Red was a child (LITTLE Red) going to her grandma's house. The wolf was a talking wolf who ate two people whole. Nobody every brings up the Huntsman who defeated the wolf anymore. Like I'm not usually against the retellings because they are often fun and who doesn't like werewolves as a twist even if it's expected now, but SERIOUSLY guys, why are we so determined to insert a Hot And Sexy Couple into EVERYTHING

After finishing “What Feasts at Night” by T. Kingfisher, I feel compelled to read more of her books. I think I’ll start with “Thornhedge” solely because the main character is named Toadling 🐸

Beauty and the Beast retelling where Belle is a vampire and Beast is a recently turned werewolf.
He transforms every night no matter the moon phase, but is human presenting in the day.
Much of the story is him trying to bring out the main qualities he has in the day during the night where she can see them. Cuz they actually have so much in common and would mesh so so well but being transformed overwhelms his senses and his body becomes hard to navigate, which makes him uncharacteristically agitated due to frustration
Beauty/Belle is actually drawn to that abrasive-ness at first since humans are automatically charmed by her and thus she’s only experienced pandering and subservience from ppl for centuries, which is torturous when you’re looking for sincerity.
They get to know each other slowly; Beast working through his frustrations and figuring out how to maneuver his were-form, Beauty actually having to work on her socials skills and how to communicate with someone not hypnotically captivated by her vampiric lure.
Together, they find something patient, honest and vulnerable. A love they chose not in spite of the challenges but largely because of them
