Icarus laughed as he fell
Credits to fiona for the original poem!
Here is what they don’t tell you:
Icarus knew he was in too deep. They’d said it out loud, leaning against the cave entrance.
“I’m in too deep now.”
The words left their lips in a shaky whisper that they knew no one would ever hear. They felt so helplessly, utterly alone as they sobbed against the cold rock. The word their friend had once called them circled through their mind.
Failure.
They knew he was right. They’d failed at being a good brother, a good friend, and they’d even failed at being themself.
They knew their back pressed against the same stone wall that had been splattered with the blood of their best friend by the blade of their father. Within the walls of this cavern, the fighting between Centross and their Dad replayed in their head. The purple scythe of the violet reaper turning their father mortal, and sealing their best friend's death wish. The golden sword through his chest. His smile as he faded into the stars, leaving nothing behind but the scythe, the now mortal god, and the son the god had almost killed.
Icarus laughed as he fell.
They felt their body wrack with cries mixed with confused, hysteric laughter. They felt disconnected from the winged person who stood from the altar staggering towards the fallen god.
They heard themself screaming,
“You killed him! You killed David!” Their father simply nodded. Almost as if to suggest it had to be done. As if their best friend had to be killed. Their mind flashed to the memories they’d tried so hard to bury.
Threw his head back and
yelled into the winds,
They were in the obsidian bunker, reaching through the gap of the trap that had opened barely enough for them to see.
“David?!” They smiled madly, their matted hair crusted with crimson. A drop of blood traced it’s way down their cheek bone.
“David let me out!” They demanded, their voice was rough and scratchy from hours of yelling. The man looked down at them with cold purple eyes,  smiling at the trapped one like a hunter smiles at an animal caught in their snare.
“Y’know, Sherb,” The cloaked man smirked, “I don’t think I will.”
They felt their heart plop into their stomach as they tasted their lunch on their tongue as it forced its way up their throat.  “David! Let me out!”
“Sherbert. Here’s what you don’t realize. Once a failure, always a failure.”
“Wha-” Icarus  was cut off by the darkening of the world around them. They felt the pain of landing before they felt the explosion of pain in their head.
arms spread wide,
teeth bared to the world.
And then they were back in the endstone reset, on the destroyed roof of Will’s estate. Their hands shook, rain pelting their face, running down the deep purple inset lines of corruption before dripping off their chin. They flung open their arms and screamed at the heavens,
“Isn’t this enough? I killed her! I did what you wanted!” They were hyperventilating now, their chest pressing uncomfortably against the bow slung around their shoulder. The bow they’d just used to kill their best friend for a goddess that hadn’t spoken to them, or shown that she knew he existed.
(There is a bitter triumph
in crashing when you should be
soaring.)
They were standing on a trail of “wack.” As they began to take off, the base of their feathers turned into shards of gold that jabbed into their back and shoulder blades, piercing their skin as the feathers and muscles of their wings crystallized into a mess of amethyst and gold. In a moment of silence that most likely only lasted a few seconds, Icarus realized they were on the ground. Mere milliseconds after this thought, the metal that was now their wings shattered into sharp shards, slicing into their skin, logging into their back, digging into the ground.
One word through the pain.
Quixis.
The wax scorched his skin,
ran blazing trails down his back,
his thighs, his ankles, his feet.
They were standing before the lectern at Haley's funeral, watching the explosion of the tree speed towards them. They heard the loud boom and the rattling of their bones. The fire clawed towards them, dragging itself on the ground like a monster lunging towards its prey. The fire nipped at their two-toned jacket, ashes burning their eyes. It caught them up in flames before the world went blank and they heard a page being torn.
Feathers floated like prayers
past his fingers,
close enough to snatch back.
Snippets of other worlds flew past them, and they caught only a few glimpses. Them trapped in a concrete box trying to save a girl named Charlotte. Them running from a horse sized chicken. Them in front of a screen, talking to words on a box.
Death breathed burning kisses
against his shoulders,
where the wings joined the harness.
Then they were inside the cave. Watching the fighting once more from their place at the altar. Their chest aching as the skin stretched and rearranged in a glitching mess, each unstable breath more painful than the last. Centross and Fable pushing each other around the cave, each one landing punch after punch. Them, not knowing who to defend.  Seeing their friend fade into the void. Doing nothing to help him.
Yelling.
Sobbing.
Laughter.
Betrayal.
Then, Fable walking towards them, framed by the sunset.
“I can bring him back.”
The sun painted everything
in shades of gold.
They were back outside the cave. Where they knew they actually were. Curled up into themself. He could get him back. He just needed more power. He was going to kill the primordials and rid the earth of death, or burn the world to shambles if doing so failed. And Icarus, his caged little bird, was going to stand muted at his side in the ashes of a fire they could have put out.
After all,
(There is a certain beauty
in setting the world on fire
and watching from the centre
of the flames.)

Thinking about how Icarus is of the belief that they were never a good brother. That because they always fought, they always hurt the people they love, why should they try to be anything different?
Thinking about how as of today (March 26) we have two different people- Len and Isla- saying that that is a lie. That Rae and Icarus were actually good siblings. That Icarus was a good person when Fable wasn’t there and manipulating them.
Icarus is such a tragic character right now I am having so many thoughts

You know.... I really should have predicted Rae getting a tail, we all knew it was going to happen.
Anyways, that episode was incredibly angsty, also, wtf Icarus?! Did your mother not tell you that throwing toxic waste on your brother is impolite?

Fable SMP Commission Experience 1/7
Hello friends! This is the first part of a series of posts I will be making about my time making the cutscene for Centross in Fable SMP.
Before I continue, I'll be completely honest. Aside from what I was told by cast members and what I gleaned off the Fable Wiki, I know almost next to nothing about Fable lore. I mostly went off of what made sense in the moment. Just wanted to provide a reason for possible discrepancies seen in the visuals.
With that off my chest, here is the first section, where I go into detail about pre-production!
At the start, I was given a folder with references of the characters involved in the scenes: Icarus, Fable, Rae, and Centross. I was also given a script with dialogue and specific actions the characters would be performing in the scenes.
Most of the references were drawn by cast members such as heyhay, artfulrenegade, and more! These were a big help in figuring out the main costuming of the characters.
Each batch of sketches was sent to and approved by a few cast members before being finalized digitally. For pre-production, I primarily did a bunch of head busts:
Tumblr media
For Centross, I wanted to emphasize the jaggedness of his scars and the messiness of his hair. The guy seems like he's gone through a lot! In retrospect, I definitely would've benefited from a scar chart.
Tumblr media
For Fable, I wanted to put emphasis on the lines of his face to convey anger and sternness, especially the sneer lines around the nose and crease lines near his eyebrows. Either way, a controlling straight white man in a suit and position of power...truly the greatest evil of them all.
Tumblr media
For Icarus, I wanted to make his face a bit more rounded and youthful in comparison to Fable. He takes a more passive role in the cutscene, but he still had to be very reactive! I wanted to make sure his wings and eyes were expressive.
Tumblr media
Although Rae was only in the very beginning of the cutscene, I still wanted to honor the presence of the character. I'm still not exactly sure what's happening with the right side of his face in terms of the lore, but I wanted it to be very textured in order to show it was something invasive.

I just had the odd realisation that like… I don’t think Quixus/the Wack really exist in my Fable fics?🧍
They definitely do in Brink… Sort of. It’s complicated we’ll get there eventually in the next book-
But like, Blood and the Band AU? I don’t like… know how to make that work at all? I genuinely got nothing for them in those AUs I don’t know how they fit akgskagsk

My mixed thoughts/headcannons/ theories on Quixis:
On one hand I think it would be very cool of Icarus to do what they said, have nothing to do with Quixis. Reject and defy them, change back their blocks and really focus on taking them down. It would all end in some form of fight where Icarus would overthrow Quixis and free both themselves and the alternate Sherbs of Quixis' games.
Another cool idea is Icarus learning the truth about Quixis and actually becoming more powerful, learning the real reason they can see into alternate lives and they choose to become a type of multi-verse traveller.
The 3 one (and my favourite) Is Quixis does actually care about Icarus but their unstable and dangerous power has a counter effect of what they want to do. They try to control the glitches, using certain blocks to warn them of danger, or lead them on a certain path. Fable being back in his own realm makes it harder and Quixis can't keep an eye on them as well, it's hard enough with the Void being alive.
In this version I picture Quixis as a ghost like being, and whatever they touch gets glitched. They pat all the sheep, they turn colour; they like to prank Icarus, they mess with their turtle eggs; Quixis is trying to warn them about Purgatory & Fable, they try to get their attention and their wings end up crystallising.
A small note: Quixis using season 1 Centross' gate as a wall could have been them trying to warn them about Centross and whatever it is he is trying to do.
Quixis is trying to protect their... 'soldier'? Traveller? Progeny? And it's failing miserably...
Or a combination of all of that...
Here's a funky edit I made based on my thoughts :D

Someone let Kai have the braincell and they chose violence, now it is everyone's problem
TW: Character Death, Slight Panic, Self Hatred(?) Icarus gasped as the sword pierced their body, they jerked forwards as it was yanked out of them. Centross stepped back and turned it over in his hands. "You know I didn't want to do that, Icarus. But you made me."
They fell to their knees and clutched their stomach desperately trying to stop the bleeding. "Wh.. Why?…" They coughed up blood violently.
"Don't act like you don't know. You've said it yourself, you're a failure. All you manage to do is make mistakes. I mean, you'd think you'd stumble upon the right choice at least once in your life but gods you managed to beat those odds, haven't you?" He used the tip of the blade to lift their chin so they would look at him. He smiled at them.
A sob tore itself from Icarus' throat, they couldn't speak. Their throat felt so tight it was like someone was suffocating them. They stared into his eyes, purple tendrils of corruption snaked all over his face.
"I could make it quicker. But you don't deserve that, do you?" Centross tilted his head. Icarus shook theirs. They knew they didn't. They knew they deserved a slow, painful death. He was right after all. They're just a failure. "It's okay, Icarus. You're finally helping everyone."
"..I-…" Icarus forced the word out, it was pathetic really. Pitiful even. They could barely even get their last words out.
"I'm sorry, truly. I didn't want you to hate me too, friend" Centross pushed the tip of the sword against their throat.
"I don't… hate you. You're…" Icarus swayed, their eyes fluttering closed for a moment. "still my best friend..."
Something in Centross snapped. He pulled the sword away and stepped back. "What-" He looked around, "What did I…" He looked at Icarus as they fell to the side. He dropped his sword and rushed to them but didn't dare touch them. "Ic- Icarus! Icarus, shit- shit, shit I didn't- what did I do?! I'm sorry," He carefully shook them but they didn't respond. He felt for a pulse. "Icarus?.."
Nothing.
"David?.." A quiet voice came from behind him. He turned around and saw the soul of Icarus. "It's okay," They smiled. They looked happy. Genuinely happy. "This is for the best, isn't it?"

Parallels
both broters broke their wings. Both could have caused nerve damage.
The difference?
Icarus had people that could help. Rae didn't.
Thank you for your time.
