#except it’s the sunshine character that goes mental when their loved one is in danger or hurt
Text
Characters that are usually really funny, kind and love to play around suddenly becoming serious, angry or almost feral when their partner is threatened is the best thing.
Since I’m obsessed with Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit at the moment let’s imagine someone hurting or upsetting Bilbo and everyone (except Bifur and Bombur who would know how he is with those he loves) is surprised when Bofur shows up and is furious.

hanie's masterlist !
— i write mostly various because i can never be loyal to one man for too long
— they all/almost include my faves except for part twos: kaveh, scaramouche, kaeya, alhaitham
— uhm me subcategory them or saying the men involved in these fics... is for another day im tired
— all of them are sfw please i repeat DONT request nsfw works i see you on asks even if anonymous. yes there's profanity or suggestive innuendos in my first smau but PLEASE i do not write those stuff and im VERY MUCH uncomfortable with people requesting them thankssss <3
works (genshin impact)—
rosemary dreams and sweet lullabies
— the comfort of sleep when he is beside you, the moment when you cared more about the reality of the moment rather than the dreams that come along with it
how you love the genshin men
— how you love them depending on their personality and if they liked you back (some didnt angst ensues but there is fluff i promise)
the day... the music died
— you died, their reaction (some gore? idk)
i like you so much, you'll know it pt. 1
—the things they do for love
im in love with you, and know you know pt. 2
— the things they do for love also just different characters i dont really care about.... but they are kinda cool so its OKAY
call me, "lover boy"
— courting you and what made you like them back
being the genshin men's first priority
— they forget everything and anything when you're in the picture. you are all that matters (did i write this during a mental breakdown when i realize how unimportant i am to everyone? yes)
dangerously yours
— wdym this is based on anakin skywalker?! it is. enemies to lovers, you're the hero and he is the villain
salut d'amour
— based on the love of elgar (the creator of salut d'amour) to his wife though not the same plot just that love and affection you feel during the piece
genshin men crushing on you
— self-explanatory. grown adult men pining over you, should be just kaveh but i got carried away and added them all because why not?
10 things i hate about you
— red flags of genshin men based on the poem from the same name (pls watch it) and how ur blind from all the signs (or u just pretend)
i was enchanted to meet you
— first meetings with them cute and wholesome i guess
haunted by the ghost of you
— all alone they still can't help but feel another presence, as memories barely buried resurfaced his mind, of a quieter time, of a simpler life.
karma is my boyfriend
— more crack than fluff fic about how the genshin men will obliterate those that dare hurt you like who would???
when im no longer young and beautiful
— growing old with them (personal fave)
"who did this to you?"
— you're hurt and for some reason enemy!genshin men are concerned and doing everything to make you feel better
"forget me not" (neuvillette)
—fontaine is experiencing heavy typhoons and severe floods, and you might just be the reason why
please don't take my sunshine away...
—can't sleep? maybe a lullaby can help :)
to all the boys i've loved before
— you made a letter to your crush, he likes you back, chaos ensues in how he responsed
when you know, you know
— soulmates are a fantasy made by hopeless romantics, but as soon as he saw you he started to doubt that. he was in love.
"what letters?"
— he ghosted your letters is a sign he never loved you, and as you move on your life he comes back, only to tell you a shocking revelation.
"hey are you still there?" "good."
— only needed when everything goes wrong, when he's no longer in her arms. you felt used. but do you stop? never, he was worth it. (inspo by NIKI's song: backburner)
works (honkai star rail) —
the best thing that's ever been mine
— capturing the mind, the heart, the body and the soul of honkai star rail men
when you know, you know
— soulmates are a fantasy made by hopeless romantics, but as soon as he saw you he started to doubt that. he was in love.

soulmate au
Tumblr media
synopsis. where the haikyuu bois can hear when their soulmate is singing (whether it be in another universe or theirs)
character roster. oikawa tooru, iwaizumi hajime, kenma kozume, kuroo tetsuroo, tsukishima kei, yamaguchi tedashi, sugawara koushi, daichi sawamura, hinata shoyo, bokuto kotarou, akaashi keiji
genre. fluff
a/n. this has been in my drafts for over a month now, and i really wanted to write this properly after finishing up my finals... i saw a lot of tiktoks about this and i was  i n s t a t n l y  hooked.
Tumblr media
oikawa tooru —> it happens during his high at the final moments of the game; breaths ragged as sweat drips down from his face, the crowd chanting his name when he sends the ball flying over to the opposing court. his ego is flying dangerously close to the sun when the quiet hum of your voice has him jolt in place—feet completely glued to the floor. he'll try to brush it off and try to focus back on the game at hand, but there's a thrum of excitement in his chest when he hears you loud and clear.
its a moment he's been waiting for, but out of all times, why now? his eyes will sweep through the bleachers, hoping to see that you might be close by, but the poor boy's out of luck. even more so, when the buzzer screeches in the stadium does oikawa gravitate back to reality, your singing no longer ringing in head does he realize he's cost the whole team their winning point.
iwaizumi hajime  —> he's in the middle of a nap during lunch, ignoring his friends who're eating by his side; oikawa's persistent chattering drowns out the noise in the classroom. so he gets up and leaves, knowing full well he'll never be able to get the peace he deserves if he stays a minute longer.
he threads his fingers through his hair, trying to subside his headache as he stumbles down the hall to look for a place to sleep. he'll eventually make a home out of a creaky wooden bench just outside the art room, settling uncomfortably on the fragile wood.
he'll miss it at first, thinking you were just one of the girls passing by. actually, he misses it completely by assuming it as such. but he doesn't mind it as it helps him fall asleep; he makes mental note to find you, making the mistake of assuming you're not anywhere else except here.
Tumblr media
kenma kozume —> "who the fuck is singing?" is what kenma hisses as he clicks away, harshly pressing down on the keys in a switch motion. his lip caught between his teeth, brows furrowed into a deep line as the screen of his computer ; he's been streaming for hours with kuroo and levi.
kenma is not a believer of soulmates, and the boy dreaded the moment he'd have to hear your voice uninvitingly taking up room in the space he felt the safest: his head. as you sing to the top of your lungs, enjoying the high of a chorus, unbeknownst to you the effect it had on the poor gamer boy who had all the hours he spent playing go to waste, he's just been given more reason to hate you than to love you.
kuroo tetsuro —> a smile creeps across his lips when he hears you sing, setting his textbook down before he slumps against the wooden backrest of his chair. he's been wondering when he'd hear from you; he always made sure he was in a quiet space so he'd hear you loud and clear. he flutters his eyes shut, craning his head back as his body eases to the sound of your voice. you weren't the best singer, but to kuroo you were the sweetest sound he could ever hear.
Tumblr media
tsukishima kei —> he has a sharp tongue, but who would've thought there'd be a day when he'd open his mouth to fire insults at certain blueberry boy only to have nothing—not even a crack in his voice—slip out. his mouth goes dry instantly as he stands there dumbfounded as  yamaguchi. somehow, the oh-so golden crown that usually rests well atop tsukki's head has fallen to the gentle sound of your singing.
though tsukki had always placed himself in a pedestal, looking down on other from where he stood, there was always a lingering insecurity that he'd never get a soulmate in this lifetime—or in any lifetime. so when he hears your voice in his head, there's a twinge of hope in his heart at the thought there's someone meant for him.
yamaguchi tadashi —>  he's blushing quite profusely, slapping his hand onto tsukki's mouth without giving the action as much as a thought as excitement overrides him, catching tsukki off guard. he can finally hear you, and he almost misses it if it weren't for his best friend's pride.
yamaguchi rests his eyes, fluttering them shut as he and his lanky friend stop in the middle of the hallway, not minding those who brush past him as he dwells in the sound of your voice.
"she's so beautiful," yamaguchi sighs, moving his hand off of tsukki's lips and onto his chest, "i wanna marry her."
"how can you say she's beautiful?" tsukki seethes, spitting away the salty aftertaste of his best friend's hand. "you haven't even seen her yet."
"with a voice like that, i already know she is."
sugawara koushi —> the amount of force he uses when he slaps his teammates on the back is the same amount of force that presses against his heart when he hears you singing, voice cracking ever so often as you try to reach the high notes. happy isn't a word he could describe the little pitter patter of feet squishing his stomach. happy is not a good enough word for sugawara to describe how he feels after finally getting to hear you sing.
she must really like this song, sugawara thinks to himself as mutes his teacher's chattering. he'll close his eyes, listening to you and your words carefully before scribbling the lyrics onto his notebook, keeping note to search the song later. it's a habit sugawara will eventually grow into every time he hears your voice, thinking he'll get to know you a bit better by listening to your favorite songs.
sugoi, he gasps in wonder, lips curving into a smile. its a soft ballad, foreign to his ears, but he'll mouth along to your singing and continue on with his jog.
daichi sawamura —> it happens in the middle of his morning jog while listening to music. he'll take off his earbuds, tapping against the plastic because he thinks his earphones one of his broken when your voice overlaps with the bands he's listening to. it takes him a while, but when he pauses his music, its only then does he realize what's going on.
hinata shoyo —> he sprints to kageyama, slapping him in the back while he's about to practice a toss, "i can hear her! i can hear her!" is what the sunshine boy screams, tugging onto the sleeve of his best friend as he hears your voice. "i can finally hear her!"
still clinging onto the material of kageyama's jersey, earning a grunt and a curse, hinata flutters his eyes shut and focuses on the sound of your voice. he doesn't understand the lyrics or the tune of the song you're singing, but its you—your voice that has his heart thumping against his ribcage, breaths hitching in his throat, drying his lips. the same high he rides in the middle of the game rises from the pit of his stomach and spreads a warm feeling across his chest.
and for the first time, the bright boy has something else to beam about other than a sport.
Tumblr media
bokuto kotarou —>  his eyes dilate as his lips curve into a toothy grin, cheeks blushing a peachy color when he hears you, his soulmate, the one and only person he can finally call home. your voice isn't the prettiest nor is it the smoothest, but it belongs to the one he'll get call his—his whole world. he's spent his whole life imagining what it'll feel like when he hears you; maybe his hairs will stand on its ends, a tickle down his spine, or maybe he'll know what it feels like to forget how to breathe. But instead, he's learns what it means to be at peace, to feel the world turn beneath his feet as focuses on nothing but the sound of your voice.
he drops everything in his hands, his attention slipping away from the front of the class and onto you. he closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, tuning out everything else as he listens to you stumbling over your words as you try to sing  properly.
cute, is the last thought bokuto spares before sinking back into his chair.
akaashi keiji —> its a small smirk that plays across this quiet boy's lips. there's a slight tug in his heart as his stomach folds into itself. the quiet mumble of your singing washes out the background noise of bokuto's shouting echoing the gym.  he shuts his eyes, fiddling with the ball in between his hands as he listens to you.
he'll bob his head to beat of your words, even humming a little once he's caught the tune. his teams watch him from the side, brows furrowed while a few mouths hang open. he looks strange, but akaashi is too invested in the moment he shares with you to think twice about what he might look like.
*i'm still not convinced that i can properly write my bbies from inarizaki, so until then, please bare with me hahu

CHARACTER STUDY
Tumblr media
— basics.
▸ is your muse tall / short / average ?
Arthur is average height, at 5′11″
▸ are they okay with their height ?
Arthur doesn’t really mind it. He will playfully banter if teased by Lewis for being short, or tease Vivi for being short, but he isn’t sensitive or bothered by how tall he is.
▸ what’s their hair like ?
Arthur’s hair is blond, with orange at the side burns, and dark bangs and eyebros and goatee. most of the hair on his body is the same brown with some yellow and orange. It is spiky like he styles it, but it is surprisingly soft, like down.
▸ do they spend a lot of time on their hair / grooming ?
Arthur either just brushes it quick, or throws it up in a little pony tails since he has enough to do so. The most effort he puts in is washing it with shampoo and conditioner when he showers,  combing it so the part is on the side, and then letting it air-dry.
▸ does your muse care about their appearance / what others think ?
He doesn’t particularly care. He has a style, and that style is comfort. He does care about being presentable and he cares a lot what his best friends think of him, but he just doesn’t care enough to put in a bunch of effort. If someone asked him to dress up (lewis or vivi or lance/peppers/yukinos) he probably would and he’d be okay with it. It’s more about easiness and feeling weird when people look at him than it is about being uncomfortable, though that can’t be said for some outfits.
— preferences.
▸ indoors or outdoors ?
He’s an indoor kind of man, preferring AC and steady light for his work and such. But he also enjoys being outside and taking walks. Indoors just wins out because he has more control and he hates hot weather with a passion.
▸ rain or sunshine ?
Rain. Arthur likes it cool and he likes the feeling of rain beating down on him. The sound is soothing to him, especially when there’s thunder.
▸ forest or beach ?
Both. He loves the beach a bit more, because he loves water and that breeze, but can’t enjoy it the same way now that he’s down his arm. He can if he takes off his prosthetic, but the sand affects the joints pretty bad, and he feels awkward without his arm on in public places like that. And he isn’t a fan of taking off his shirt. The forest is nice because it’s nice and cool and he enjoys going there for walks, but if it gets darker out it reminds him of old memories and can make him uncomfortable.
▸ precious metals or gems ?
metals-- he loves making things with metal for others. He likes making rings and other decorative things from them, and while he thinks some gems are pretty, they’re not as easy to make something memorable with.
▸ flowers or perfumes ?
Flowers. Arthur likes nice smells, but he wouldn’t wear them. Flowers, especially ones that are his favorite, are a lot more endearing. Especially ones in planters, so he can grow them. He loves plants, and doesn’t have the money for many pets. So plants are a happy close second.
▸ personality or appearance ?
PERSONALITY. Arthur has a soft spot for people who look like Lewis and like Vivi because he loves them because of knowing their personality, and it endearing him so deeply. But he’s not liked people who looked like them, because of how they handle things or treat him or others. Everyone else, he can appreciate a look aesthetically, but if they aren’t kind or are a jerk, that will strike him first. he won’t put up with too much bullshit.
▸ being alone or being in a crowd ?
Neither, but if he had to choose it’d be alone. Arthur hates being in a large group or crowd. He tends to feel overwhelmed and go quiet until he’s comfortable, and if there’s too many people, that won’t happen. If there’s too much, he may have a panic attack. And being alone isn’t any good either. He handles it better than crowds, but alone with his thoughts ends up often going poorly for him. He’d rather be somewhere in between, not alone, but with a small group of close friends.
▸ order or anarchy ?
He’s not sure. They both have their merits and they both have their flaws. He’d rather fight for something he believes in even if it breaks the rules, but he understands that rules can be there to protect people or make things safer sometimes. It just depends on the rule he supposes.
▸ painful truths or white lies ?
White Lies. He’s scared to hurt anyone more and he struggles to be honest unless he feels there’s no other choice or they’ll get hurt now because of it. But if he thinks it won’t, they don’t need to know, even if it’s slowly destroying him.
▸ science or magic ?
Both. Magic and science go hand in hand he’s found. He is better with science himself, but he’s fascinated by and wants to understand magic.
▸ peace or conflict ?
Arthur wants peace for everyone else. He doesn’t know if he’s earned it, and he often puts himself in trouble. But he almost wonders if he wants to be there because it’s normal for him. He doesn’t know what he’d do with himself if things weren’t always happening. Would he even be useful anymore?
▸ night or day ?
Night. Arthur feels safer at night, in a lit room or with friends. Days aren’t bad. he just prefers the quiet of nighttime.
▸ dusk or dawn ?
Dusk. He likes the colors and watching the stars slowly creep over the sky.
▸ warmth or cold ?
Cold. Arthur likes being cool, and always says he can put more layers on, and there’s so many he can take off. Cold also helps with his anxiety.
▸ many acquaintances or a few close friends ?
A few close friends. Arthur is happy being friendly to people he wants to be friendly with, but he feels more comfortable and happiest with a few friends he trusts and knows.
▸ reading or playing a game ?
Depends. He likes reading to understand things better for concepts or his work ,but if it was reading a story, he’d rather play a game and experience hands-on or with friends.
— questionnaire.
▸ what are some of your muse’s bad habits ?
Lying. Basing his worth on someone else’s opinion of him, bad temper that flares fast, self-isolates a lot, reckless, throws himself into danger if someone is in trouble, self-sacrificing, doesn’t eat or sleep much, buries all his feelings and tries to make everyone else happy, self abuse particularly mentally, when he is upset (sometimes physical, but more in a looking for trouble or being careless way)
▸ has your muse lost anyone close to them ? how has it affected them ?
His family died in a crash when he was six. It irrevocably changed him. He was angry for a long time, at himself, and he lashed out because of it. The ire is still there, but its buried. He lost his best friend and it was his fault too, and the guilt from that is also anger but a sadness he can’t shake. Losing his friends again destroyed him, and has affected him to the point he hardly takes care of himself in his desperation to bring them back. The temporary deaths of his friends he’s witnessed still affect him and he’s scared of letting the Grey’s near them because he doesn’t know if he can handle it again. He’s terrified.
▸ what are some fond memories your muse has ?
Arthur remembers thinking of sleepovers he had with Lewis growing up, and late night calls talking to Vivi. He thinks of learning with Lance how to fight, and His uncle’s first question when he came out to him asking what he wanted to be called. Arthur remembers sitting in his mother’s lap while she played piano and him and his dad singing together while she helped him play. He remembers the first time Lewis hugged him, the time all four of them would get ice cream after a a case that wasn’t real, and he remembers sleeping in the back of the van, except not sleeping at all watching the other three and hoping this would never end.
▸ is it easy for your muse to kill ?
No. It is never easy. Arthur hates the idea of doing it. But if it would save someone he cared about... he could. Because he’d do anything to save them. And he already feels he’s killed people. If he had to, he could because he’s already past saving.
▸ what’s it like when your muse breaks down ?
It’s a slow descent to a sudden drop. Arthur says he’s fine, and sometimes he even believes it. He smiles and he laughs and he makes jokes, but the second he’s left to himself it’s a quiet and overwhelming sadness he can’t escape. he runs from it by keeping busy. and he runs and runs until he can’t. And then he falls apart completely. He screams into something to stay quiet and attacks himself because he hurts so much it’s the only way to feel better and cries until he can’t staying in bed in a listless heap for varying amounts of time. Then he goes back to pretending nothing happened, and says everything is fine.
▸ is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life ?
Yes. He trusts his friends and his loves with every inch of himself. If they asked him to jump off a bridge, he’d do it.
▸ what’s your muse like when they’re in love ?
He’s awkward and blushes a lot or at times loses his train of thought and gets distracted thinking about how wonderful they are. But he treats them the same as he would a friend, and often keeps that love to himself. He just wants them happy and does whatever he can to make that happen, and often goes above and beyond with things like gifts or telling them how much they mean to him.

Hey, everyone.
If you saw the post from earlier, I had to delete it. There were things I forgot to discuss and things that didn't get saved into my drafts. Sorry if you have to see this again.
I've been WAITING to talk about Glee. Not in the good way either. There's so much wrong with the show, and it's sickening. Yes, I've watched the show last year. Against my will, but that's because of other people refusing to put on anything else besides Glee. I can say that I hate Glee with my entire being. (My initial reason for hating it was because they covered "SING" by My Chemical Romance and turned it into a slow, patriotic song when it's a song about rebellion. NOTHING about "SING" is patriotic. I hated the show since I first heard about it...for that very reason. I was like thirteen or so at the time when I first heard about Glee? Despite it being out since 2009.
Though it's been over for several years now, it's a show that many people have mixed feelings about. From what I've seen, you either love Glee or you absolutely hate it. There's no in-between that I've seen. (If you can't already tell, I hate the show.)
The show is a literal dumpster fire, the characters are all fucking awful people and all of them are poorly written, the script pisses me off, it literally makes me feel disgusting, and don't even get me started on the covers. Most of the covers aren't that good. A lot of them sound like nails on a chalkboard to me. The pacing of the show makes NO sense in certain areas (like when Blaine was initially made to be a grade above Kurt, but was then changed to be like the same grade as him so he'd stay). It just feels like everyone in the show is either a Mary Sue, a Gary Stu, their whole personality is just that they're from a minority group or they're EDGY AND HARDCORE DELINQUENTS BLEEEEHHHHH, creepy as fuck, bigoted as all hell, or they're just background characters who occasionally have the spotlight.
TW: The following post and any other posts that I'll make about this show contains subject matter that may be triggering for some audiences. It will go into subjects like racism, homophobia, ableism, outing of a person in the LGBT community, bigotry in general, statutory r@pe (between teachers and students), teachers being creepy towards students, mentioned past child m0l3stati0n and invalidation of the victim's trauma, making fun of su1c1d3, making fun of overdose, making fun of drug addiction....a lot of fucked up things.
If anything mentioned above is triggering for you, please feel free to scroll and consume safe media instead. I'd rather have you be safe than to be triggered by anything I'm gonna talk about.
Let's start off easy. The characters. It's easy to tear them apart. At least the most problematic ones.
Rachel, the Main Character™️, is textbook definition of a Mary Sue. Instead of calling her Rachel, I'm gonna call her Mary Sue for the whole post. She's almost completely perfect (like too perfect), her flaws are minor if anything, she gets all the special treatment....you get the picture. When Mary Sue does anything fucked up or she says anything fucked up, it either goes unnoticed, people make up excuses for her being a shitty person, or it gets twisted so it looks like Mary Sue is the hero! (I hate her. So much. I cannot stand her.)
Tumblr media
Aaawwww, Mary Sue didn't want some OTHER GIRL (Sunshine) to steal HER spotlight, so she SENT THIS GIRL TO A CRACK HOUSE. A FUCKING CRACK HOUSE, OF ALL PLACES. A PLACE WHERE THIS GIRL COULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN SERIOUS DANGER. THIS GIRL COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED AT BEST AND KILLED AT WORST. Yes, I'm aware not all drug houses are the same, but still. It doesn't matter what this girl did. What Sunshine did is irrelevant. It's not okay to send people to strange places where they don't know anyone, and are put in danger, even to the point of either getting injured or killed. But it's okay, because at least it's not an "active" crack house you sent Sunshine to, RIGHT, Mary Sue? You still sent some poor girl to a place where she could have been put in serious danger, even to possibly get injured or killed, all because you didn't want her to steal YOUR spotlight. You fucking disgusting, entitled, bratty cunt. You don't need the spotlight all the time anyway. THAT'S HOW THEATRE WORKS. YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET THE LEAD ROLE. YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET THE ROLE YOU WANT. AND THAT'S OKAY. YOU WORK WITH WHAT YOU GOT. Sincerely, a theatre kid.
There are other fucked up things Mary Sue has done, but this is the one thing I could find anyone talking about. If I remember correctly, she hurt her Gay Best Friend™️ Kurt in some way. All I remember is that Kurt was mad at Mary Sue about something. Mary Sue is annoying as fuck. What else can I say about her?
Next, we have Finn, who's textbook definition of a Gary Stu. I'll call him Gary Stu throughout this post. I hate this fucker too. He's the Main Character's Boyfriend™️, the Hot Quarterback™️, and The Good Guy™️. Yet....he's not a good person. He's treated like he's a good person, but he's really not. His flaws are fairly minor and excused (and any major flaws aren't even talked about much), he's almost completely perfect, and every fucked up thing he does is ignored or is justified in some way. Like how he outed Santana as lesbian in the hallway WITHIN EARSHOT OF EVERYONE. HE DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR THIS.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As a woman who has struggled with her sexuality growing up, this really brought back shit I went through. I "dated" boys when I was younger to cover up the fact that I'm only attracted to other women. I wasn't happy with these guys at all. I acted like I did so nobody would suspect anything. I felt nothing for them, except for in a platonic way. I've been outed twice. Once when I thought I was bisexual with a strong preference for other women (by my dad's girlfriend at the time), and when I came out as lesbian (by my brother). It sucks to be outed. The people who outed me in real life could have put me in danger. They could have made it so I had no place to go back to. They could have had me get hurt. It's a scary feeling. Like, it doesn't matter if you're supportive or if you're in the LGBT community. You don't fucking out people without their explicit permission. You especially don't out people to their abusers or to people they don't trust, let alone out them publicly. That's what happened to me. I don't wish this on anyone.
***By the way, for anyone who's closeted, you're valid, I love you, and I know how it feels to be stuck in the closet. You don't have to come out right now. Come out whenever you're ready to. Whenever it's safe for you to do so.***
Or how about the fact that Gary Stu made fun of Kurt's voice because he's gay? Gary Stu apparently has ✨anger issues✨ and that's pretty much the excuse they use to justify him doing fucked up shit to people.
They treat the characters who are from minority groups (i.e., BIPOC, AAPI, LGBT community, disabled people) like absolute garbage, put them through all this horrific shit, or they put them on a pedestal simply for being in a minority group. The teachers and other school staff are either written to be total bigots (Sue), or they're total pr3dators (Mr. Schue, the school nurse, and another teacher who I can't remember her name off the top of my head).
Sue pretty much only exists to be a poorly written villain who's a bigoted bitch just to be a bigoted bitch. Yes, there were some things she WAS right about (like how "Blurred Lines" wasn't an appropriate song choice for the Glee Club™️, but Mr. Schue The Pr3dator™️ downplayed it). Other than that...that's all I can think of. Because everything else that came out of her mouth was bigoted bullshit. Like these right here, for example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Or how she drugged the principal, date r@ped him, and blackmailed him?
Tumblr media
How about them making a tasteless joke about Sue committing su1c1d3 and having her "overdose" on multivitamin gummies?
Tumblr media
DO I NEED TO EXPLAIN HOW FUCKED UP ALL OF THIS IS? I do? Well, first of all, she called people racist, homophobic, ableist, and otherwise disgusting names. She boiled them down to their race, sexual orientation, their disability, and their appearance in general. Second, SHE DRUGGED, BLACKMAILED, AND DATE R@PED SOMEBODY. I don't think I need to explain how that's bad. The evidence is right there. Third, she said she was committing "sue-icide" by overdosing on multivitamin gummies. (Yes, you actually can OD on vitamins in supplement form, and it can cause serious symptoms and even death. Specifically with vitamins A, D, E, and K, and Iron. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble. They're a lot harder to remove from the body. The B vitamins and vitamin C aren't as severe if you do OD on them because they're water-soluble, but still be careful. You can't OD on vitamins and minerals you find in food. If you take supplements, vitamins, etc., only take what's on the bottle.) As someone who has su1c1d@l thoughts on and off, this is extremely insulting. Yes, I do use humor and I joke about my own experiences to cope, but this? Nah. Nothing about this is funny or cute in the slightest. Enough said.

Do I need to explain how fucking terrible it is to make light of a serious topic like this? It was never funny to see Britney Spears' mental health be at that low of a point in 2007. It was never funny to see the abuse the paparazzi inflicted on her. How the fuck was this ever okay? You can dislike Britney Spears all you want, but this was never it.
This is all I have for now. I'll probably make a part two because there are way too many things to talk about.

“I heard your voice, so I came... Aoba-san.”
Hooo-boy, if that doesn’t get me emotional every single time. Call it my bias for eccentric bundles of sunshine and softness, or my crippling weakness for the secretly-handsome-and-devastatingly-earnest type, but you can’t change my mind: Clear is, hands down, DMMD’s best love interest. Character development-wise, thematically, romantically, he nails every trial thrown at him, gets his man,  and proceeds to break your heart in the tenderest, sincerest way possible. I am hopping with Huge Fan Energy, so this post is gonna be unapologetically long and self-indulgent and grossly enthusiastic. Yeeeee.
————
Look, DMMD meta analysis has been done to death, I get it. This game is old. But I think it stands as testament to its excellent production that it’s still a game worth revisiting years later — especially during these times when social contact is so hard pressed to come by and we all rabidly devour digital media like a horde of screeching feral gremlins. (Have you seen Netflix’s stock value now? The exploding MMO server populations? Astonishing.) It’s pure, simple human nature to want to connect, to cling to members of our network out of biological imperative and our psychological dependency on each other. As cold and primitive at that sounds, social contact also fulfills us on a higher level: the community is always stronger than the individual; genuine trust begets a mutually supportive relationship of exchange and evolution. People learn from each other, and grow into stronger, wiser, better versions of themselves.
Yeah, I’m being deliberately obtuse about this. Of course I’m talking about Clear. Clear, who is a robot. Clear, who is nearly childlike in his insatiable curiosity regarding the human condition.
And it’s a classic literary tactic, using non-human entities to question the intangible constructs of a concept like ‘humanity’ — think Frankenstein, or Tokyo Ghoul, or Detroit: Become Human, among so, so many works in various media — all tackling that question from countless angles, all with varying measures of success. What does it mean to be human? To be good? Who are we, and where do we stand in the grand scheme of things? Is there even a scheme to follow? … Wait, what?
Jokes aside, there are so many ways that the whole approaching-human-yet-not-quite-there schtick can be abused into edgy, joyless existential griping. Nothing wrong with that if it’s what you’re looking for, except that we’re talking about a boys’ love game here. But DMMD neatly, sweetly side steps that particular wrinkle, giving us a wonderfully grounded character to work with as a result.
Character Design — a see-through secret
Let’s start small: Clear’s design and premise. Unlike so many other lost, clueless robo-lambs across media, Clear does have a small guiding presence early on in his life. It takes the form of his grandfather, who teaches Clear about the world while also sheltering him from his origins. It means he learns enough to blend sufficiently into society; it also means that Clear has even more questions that sprout from his limited understanding of the world.
Told that he must never remove his mask lest he expose his identity as a non-human, Clear’s perpetual fear of rejection for what he is drives much of his eccentricity and challenges him throughout much of his route. As for the player, the mystery of what lies underneath his mask is a carrot that the writers get to dangle until the peak moment of emotional payoff. Even if it’s not hard to guess that there’s probably a hottie of legendary proportions stuck under there, there’s still significance in waiting for that good moment to happen. And when it does, it feels great.
His upbringing contextualizes and affirms his odd choice of fashion: deliberately generic, bashfully covered from the public eye, and colored nearly in pure white - the quintessential signal of a blank slate, of innocence. Contrasted with the rest of DMMD’s flashy, colorful crew, Clear is probably the most difficult to read on a superficial scale, not falling into the fiery, bare-chest sex appeal of a womanizer, or the techno-nerd rebel aesthetic that Noiz somehow rocks. Goofy weirdo? Possibly a serial killer? Honestly, both seem plausible at the start.
And that’s the funny thing, because as damn hard as he tries to physically cover himself up from society, Clear is irrepressibly true to his name: transparent to a fault. He’s a walking, talking contradiction, and it’s not hard to realize that this mysterious, masked stranger… is really just an open book. By far the most effusive and straightforward of the entire cast, his actions are wildly unconventional and sometimes wholly inexplicable. But given time to explain himself, he is always, always sincere in his intentions — and unlike the rest of the love interests, naturally inclined to offer bits of himself to Aoba. It doesn’t take the entire character arc to figure out his big, bad secret — our main character gets an inkling about halfway through his route — and what’s even better is that he embraces it, understanding that his abilities also allow him to protect what he cherishes: Aoba.
So what if he doesn’t fit into an easily recognizable box of daydream boyfriend material? He’s contradictory, and contradiction is interesting. Dons a gas mask, but isn’t an edgelord. Blandly dressed, but ridiculously charming. Unreadable and modestly intimidating — until he opens his mouth. Even without the benefit of traversing his route, there’s already so much good stuff to work with, and sure as hell, you’re kept guessing all the way to the end.
Character Development — from reckless devotion into complaisant subservience, complaisant subservience into mutual understanding. And then, of course: free will, and true love.
At its core, DMMD is about a dude with magic mind-melding powers and his merry band of attractive men with — surprise! — crippling emotional baggage. Each route follows the same pattern, simply remixing the individual character interactions and the pace of the program: Aoba finds himself isolated with the love interest, faces various communication issues varying on the scale of frustrating to downright dangerous, wanders into a sketchy section of Platinum Jail, bonds with the love interest over shared duress, breaks into the Oval Tower, faces mental assault by the big bad — and finally, finally, destroys those internal demons plaguing the love interest, releasing the couple onto the path of a real heart-to-heart conversation. And then, you know, the lovey-dovey stuff.
Here’s the thing: as far as romantic progression goes, it’s really not a bad structure. There’s room to bump heads, but also to bond. The Scrap scene is a thematically cohesive and clever way to squeeze in the full breadth of character backstory while simultaneously advancing the plot. In this part, Aoba must become the hero to each of his love interests and save them from themselves. Having become privy to each other’s deepest thoughts and reaching a mutual understanding of each other, their feelings afterwards slide much more naturally into romantic territory. They break free of Oval Tower, make their way home, and have hot, emotionally fulfilling sex or otherwise some variation on the last few steps. The end.
That is, except for Clear.
Clear’s route is refreshing in that he needs none of these things — the climax of his emotional arc actually comes a little after the halfway point of his route. When Clear’s true origins are revealed, he comes entirely clean to Aoba, fighting against his fear of rejection but also trusting that Aoba will listen. It’s a quiet, vulnerable moment, rather than the action-packed tension we normally experience during a Scrap scene.
That doesn’t mean it’s prematurely written in — it simply means that he reaches his potential faster than the other characters. Because of that, he’s free to pursue the next level of his route’s development much, much sooner in the timeline: he overcomes his fears of his appearance, he confesses his love to Aoba, he leaves the confines of a largely dubious master-servant relationship and allows himself to be Aoba’s equal. Clear’s sprite art mirrors his emotional transformation all the way through, exposing him to the literal bone — and Aoba’s affection for him doesn’t change a single bit. Beautiful.
The whammy of incredible moments doesn’t just stop there, though. I don’t exactly recall the order the routes DMMD is ideally meant to be played in, but I believe Clear’s is meant to be last. And if you do, I can guarantee that it becomes a hugely delightful gameplay experience — in order to achieve his good ending, you must do absolutely nothing with Scrap. It doesn’t just subvert our player expectations of proactively clicking and interacting with our love interests; it grabs the story by its thematic reins and yanks it all back to the forefront of our scene.
In every route besides Clear’s, Scrap is a tool used to insert Aoba’s influence into and interfere with his target’s mind. Using his powers of destruction, Aoba is able to prune whatever maligned thoughts are harming his target; in any conventional situation, using Scrap is the right choice.
But one of the central problems in Clear’s route is his conflict between the impulses of his conditioning and his desire to live freely as a human would. Breaking free of Toue’s programming is what initially made him unique; growing beyond the rules imposed by his grandfather is what makes him human. In the final conflict scene, Clear’s decision to destroy his key-lock is an action of true autonomy, made with perfect understanding of the consequences and a sincere, selflessly selfish desire to protect someone he loves. In order to receive his good end, you have to respect his decision. It doesn’t matter which option you pick — by using Scrap, Aoba turns his back on every positive choice he made with Clear and attempts to exert his authority over him. This is Aoba becoming Toue; this is Aoba trying to reinstate himself as ‘Master’ right as he approved Clear as his equal. That’s blatant hypocrisy, and it doesn’t matter if Aoba is trying to do it for Clear’s ‘own good’ — that’s not Aoba’s call to make. If you truly wish to respect Clear’s free will, you will stand by. This is the truth of the moment: Clear has no emotional blockages that Aoba needs to fix. Believe in him, just as he believed in you.
The path to his heart is, and always has been, clear. Scrap was never needed from the start.
While Aoba might be the main character, Clear is undeniably a hero in his own route just as much. Tirelessly earnest and always curious, he leaps headlong into the unknown and emerges with his newfound enlightenment. He’s unafraid of weathering trials, even to the point of accepting death, and returns anew from oblivion to a sweet, cathartic ending. That’s about as textbook hero’s journey as it gets — if that doesn’t make him unquestionably, certifiably, unconditionally human, then I will scream.
And only finally… there is the free end. The final CG is like a throwback to our first impression of him: indistinct, purposefully obscured from proper view. But this time, we know better — and so does Aoba. Looks were never what mattered in Clear’s route. If you were patient, and you were open-minded, and you listened… well, what we realize now is that Clear was doing the exact same thing for you, too.
From a carefree, aimless robot-man with only the gimmick of “eccentric ditz” to carry him forward, we get a supremely more interesting character by the end: a man who has graduated from the well-intentioned but claustrophobic conditioning of his childhood; a weapon who has defied the imperatives placed on him by his creator’s programming; a wanderer who has, through unconditional patience and empathy, discovered love, and striven to become a better person for it. Who was it that ever doubted Clear’s character? He’s the goddamn goodest boy that ever wanted to be a real boy. Of course Clear is human. And in fact, he does it better than every single one of the actually human love interests. You can’t change my mind.
The Romance — kindness is really fucking attractive, okay.
Like I’ve said earlier, I have my Big Fan Blinds stuck on pretty tight. I might be conjuring sparks from thin air. But I think every choice was a deliberate creative decision on the writers’ part, and they deserve all the kudos for it — I’m just the lucky player who gets to enjoy it. But aside from Noiz (who I also think is a perfect darling as well — I could go on and on about him), Clear’s route is a model example for consent and healthy relationships in VN storytelling. This is reciprocated on both sides: never does Aoba infringe on Clear’s boundaries, and neither does Clear. They’re sensitive to each other’s needs and concerns; they ask for permission and stop when it isn’t granted (and when it is, boy do they get frisky — I’m not complaining!) I don’t need to say much more, because I think that consent is both fantastic and yes, incredibly hot (the scene in DMMD is tons more sad, go play Re:connect!). Good writing shows off the massive erotic potential enthusiastic consent puts into intimacy, and Aoba’s and Clear’s relationship is honestly a dream playground. The point is, I think Aoba and Clear genuinely do find equal balance in their relationship by the end of his route (and certainly through Re:connect). If you follow through Re:connect’s storyline, there’s even more thematic richness that comes through in the form of Clear’s greatest asset: communication. The couple get to discuss the long-term implications of them being together; they both offer concerns, points, and assurances to the other, and it’s just a soft, honest moment not so unlike the worries of a real relationship. Hearing is kind of Clear’s motif sense, but it’s really great to see that Aoba also subtly picks it up, really flexes his own communication skills to better engage with Clear.
Point is, Clear’s route spoke to me on a lot of little levels. Design-wise, he’s already got a ton going for him, and his story builds upon it rather than against it, enriching his development and grounding him a little more solidly in the DMMD universe (and in my heart). His route, aside from being emotionally ruinous, carries a pretty solid chunk of world-building (only beaten out by Mink’s and Ren’s, probably), and the romance feels organic, healthy, and realistic. He’s not the only one with an excellent route, but he’s my favorite. If you read through all of this, you’re a real trooper and I’m extremely impressed. Thanks for tuning in. Peace.

Billboard #1s 1973
Under the cut.
Carly Simon – “You’re So Vain” -- January 6, 1973
Knowing who this song is about -- if there even is someone -- would make it a lot less fun. "You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht" is one of the greatest lines of all time. The subject of this song is a grade-A douchebag, and yet his life's kinda enviable, isn't it? He can fly his plane to see the total eclipse of the sun, he hangs out with spies, he seduces his close friends' wives, his horse wins races. But he "gave away the things he loved." He chose to be a movie character instead of having love, which is rather sad. It's a more complex song than it seems at first. And it's a lot of fun.
Stevie Wonder – “Superstition” -- January 27, 1973
Can't write too busy jamming. Okay so this song is great. The sentiment is one we need a hell of a lot more of. The music has my favorite funk beat. It's my favorite Stevie Wonder song, and one of my favorite songs period. Actually this is three in a row of my favorite songs now.
Elton John – “Crocodile Rock” -- February 3, 1973
Well that ends that streak. I don't like Elton John's music. I find it dull and irritating. I can't even pinpoint why entirely, because I can't listen to enough of his music all the way through. I have had to listen to this one all the way through at every wedding reception I've ever been to, though. It's a boring dance song, and boring dance songs are very bad things.
Roberta Flack – “Killing Me Softly With His Song” -- February 25, 1973
Roberta Flack is great, but I prefer the Fugee's version of this song. Flack's version is a little too color-within-the-lines for me.
The O’Jays – “Love Train” -- March 24, 1973
An optimistic, happy song about everyone loving each other and getting along. It's also a good dance song, which makes it easy to get on board.
Vicki Lawrence – “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” -- April 7, 1973
She killed her sister-in-law for cheating on her brother? Really? Really? Well this is where revenge leads -- now her brother's dead too. This song doesn't get at anything interesting and the story is simply unpleasant. The music in this song's not spectacular or anything, but it deserves a better story.
Tony Orlando & Dawn – “Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Ole Oak Tree” -- April 21, 1973
This lounge lizard singing a twangy country-ish song doesn't work. He doesn't know how to do it. Also, it sounds like they were trying to make it into a novelty song. Someone coming home from prison and hoping his wife will still want him is in very poor taste for a novelty song. This song somehow became about soldiers returning home. It's a really bad song for such a poignant and complex topic. It's a really bad song for anything.
Stevie Wonder – “You Are The Sunshine Of My Life” -- May 19, 1973
Stevie Wonder and his wife Syreeta Wright were in the process of breaking up when they recorded this love song together. They stayed in each other's lives until Syreeta passed away, though. Knowing that makes this song even more moving.
The Edgar Winter Group – “Frankenstein” -- May 26, 1973
How did a hard rock instrumental reach the top of the charts? The riff is pretty great, and some cool things are going on with the electric guitar. Hard rock instrumentals aren't my thing, though. But I think it's good, even if I don't want to listen to it.
Paul McCartney & Wings – “My Love” -- June 2, 1973
John and Paul both started producing lighter, slower songs after The Beatles broke up. I feel like George was keeping them grounded. Or I guess maybe Ringo -- who knows? This is tolerable, which is more than I normally say about too-light 70s love songs. Actually I think this is also a sex song. For the most soporific sex imaginable. Paul McCartney's bass playing was awesome when he was in The Beatles. I don't get why he didn't build songs around that after they broke up.
George Harrison – “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)” -- June 30, 1973
Another spiritual song from George Harrison, but it's better than "My Sweet Lord" in multiple ways. First, the melody's not plagiarized. Second, it has forward motion. You can actually dance a little to it if you want. Third, there's a bit of anguish there. Spiritual songs are always better when they have the tang of pain to them. And Harrison's guitar is on point. Pretty good.
Billy Preston – “Will It Go Round In Circles” -- July 7, 1973
The last two #1s were by ex-Beatles, and this one is by the man often called "the fifth Beatle." It's the best of these three by quite a ways. It sounds to me like it's about the creative process. A song with no melody, a dance with no steps. And the one I like the best: "I've got a story, ain't got no moral/ Let the bad guy win every once in a while." Sounds like his story's a lot farther along than the song and the dance.  The music is funky and soulful with a lot of different things going on, but without feeling overly crowded. Excellent.
Jim Croce – “Bad, Bad Leroy Brown” -- July 21, 1973
Leroy Brown is a big, mean man, and everyone's scared of him. Until he goes after the wrong woman and her husband kicks the everloving crap out of him. Being big and mean doesn't count for much if you're a dumbass. It's sort of a country/funk blend, and I like it.
Maureen McGovern – “The Morning After” -- August 4, 1973
Mneh. I know why this one became a big hit; it was the ballad attached to a hit disaster movie. The Poseidon Adventure, one of the biggest disaster movies. I don't get disaster movies either. This song is schmaltz.
Diana Ross – “Touch Me In The Morning” -- August 18, 1973
Diana Ross sure sang a lot of songs in which she was desperate for a man who didn't want her. This time, she promises to be content with having sex just one more time in the morning with a one-night stand. How low maintenance of her. It's slow. It's boring. It gives me the icks.
Stories – “Brother Louie” -- August 25, 1973
Louie is white. He falls in love with a black woman. When he takes her home to his parents, they explode. I think he probably chooses to stay with her, but the song isn't clear. There's the fetishizing "Danger, danger when you taste brown sugar" line. Interracial relationships were really dangerous then still, so that's something. But I don't like the music, I don't like the singing, that one line is really bad and so I can't like the song at all.
Marvin Gaye – “Let’s Get It On” -- September 8, 1973
After learning about Marvin Gaye's life, I am extremely torn about this song. Marvin Gaye's father was a horrible right-wing preacher who made him think sex was a wicked thing. This song is Gaye's celebration of shedding the guilt instilled in him, and finding how wonderful making love was. But I still can't like this song. It's too light for me. (Marvin Gaye's father ended up murdering him -- he was truly a horrific excuse for a human being -- but at least Gaye was mentally free before that.)
Helen Reddy – “Delta Dawn” -- September 15, 1973
Helen Reddy manages a lot more emotion in this song than she did in "I Am Woman." I get it; I prefer stories to polemics too. That doesn't mean I like this song. A story song should have more than two verses and a repetitive chorus. Also, I don't like stories where women go mad because men promise to marry them and then split. I'm looking at you, Charles Dickens. Everyone's got tropes that make them itch, and this is one of mine.
Grand Funk – “We’re An American Band” -- September 29, 1973
My family moved a lot, but I always spent summers with my Grandmother in her cottage near Flint. So Flint is more my hometown than anywhere else. I'm definitely cool with a band from Flint laying claim to the "American Band" label. That doesn't mean I like the song. It's about touring and drinking and groupies, and then it's about repeating the chorus about a hundred and twelve times. Yeah, the music rocks, but it's repetitive and bores me as much as any soft rock ballad ever could.
Cher – “Half-Breed” -- October 6, 1973
I have a lot to say about this song. Way too much. Therefore I'm going to say nothing, except that nothing changes overnight, and this song is a massive improvement over the previous decade's songs about Native Americans.
The Rolling Stones – “Angie” -- October 20, 1973
I liked when the Stones were nice in "Ruby Tuesday." I don't like it so much in this one. It's a step too far. He's singing about how he still loves "you", Angie, but it's time to break up, and I just can't hear it as anything but insincere, fair or not. I feel like he's got someone else waiting. I do like how Mick Jagger makes "Angie" sound like "Angel" when he sings though.
Gladys Knight & The Pips – “Midnight Train To Georgia” -- October 27, 1973
Diana Ross was jealous of Gladys Knight and the Pips, and undermined them at least once. I am not surprised. Gladys Knight is a better singer than Diana Ross, and who wouldn't want the Pips singing and dancing behind them? This song is about how the singer's boyfriend is leaving on a midnight train to Georgia because he couldn't make it as a star in L.A., and she's going with him. Good for them. I love this song.
Eddie Kendricks – “Keep On Truckin'” -- November 10, 1973
Right into falsetto from the start. Sigh. This is a disco song, and it's not technically about trucking, but there are a lot of truck metaphors in it. I find a lot of disco weirdly hard to dance to -- I can't locate the beat somehow. I can dance to The Alan Parsons Project but not the Bee Gees. This is one of those disco songs I have trouble with. So it doesn't work for me to listen to or to dance to, and it's falsetto. Not bad falsetto, but still falsetto the whole way through. I don't hate it but I don't want to hear it again either.
Ringo Starr – “Photograph” -- November 24, 1973
This song is about looking at photographs of someone and missing them. It sounds a bit like an early Beatles song. George Harrison helped Ringo write it, and some of Phil Spector's collaborators gave it the "wall of sound" treatment. The former is likely why it's got a good melody and some interesting musical touches; the latter is why it gives me a headache.
The Carpenters – “Top Of The World” -- December 1, 1973
The singer is newly in love with someone who loves her, and it makes her feel wonderful. Very straightforward, honest, and unembarrassed, and Karen Carpenter's voice is gorgeous as always. The hook is dangerous; this song is likely to be in my head for a few days. That's okay though, because I like it.
Charlie Rich – “The Most Beautiful Girl” -- December 15, 1973
This is a country song in which the singer realizes he just destroyed his life, and is desperate to salvage it. He's asking if you've seen "the most beautiful girl in the world," because he needs to find her to apologize for the things he said that drove her away. It's sad and sweet, but it doesn't make me feel an awful lot.
Jim Croce – “Time In A Bottle” -- December 29, 1973
When this song would come on the oldies station, my mother would yell "Gah!" and change the channel to anything else. Her graduating class, very much to her chagrin, had decided it would be their song. (I don't remember what my graduating class's song was, but I remember some of us trying to get "I'm Too Sexy" to win and failing. I think we ended up being saddled with "I've Got Friends in Low Places.") In any case, I was prejudiced against this song before I heard it the whole way through. Jim Croce died young in a plane crash, so that is very sad. My reaction to this song is still the same as my mother's. It's glop.

The first set of maxed characters, in their elements and in order. Bios under the read more of what I’ve learned so far about them from simply playing them. I’m not good at these short bio things. Still so much more to them. I really need to get around to working on their full profiles on my forum. As well as writing their stories. Of what I can do by myself without the other two, anyway.
Gwenyna - Chronomancer - Whispers Creator Gwen is my main and the first I made. I was attracted to the idea of the mesmer, the beauty of the effects, and the ability to help people with portals. I’ve been gaming for 25+ years, but I’ve never seen anything quite like them. Gwen was born, I figure, maybe a year or two before the personal stories started. I’m not sure what she had been doing before joining the Whispers. She’s a most quiet muse and doesn’t pipe up with any information for me about her. I know she had a pod twin, Laerrim, who is also a mesmer. Before PoF, I did the story with her, but it didn’t feel right. It wasn’t her to be charging into battle like that all the time. She’s most at home in the background, working at a desk or coming up with battle plans.
Arinea - Soulbeast - Affiliated with no organization, seeking to forge her Legend I don’t know her much. Ice and I haven’t worked on Arinea and Valdis much. She is Valdis’ younger sister, trying to follow in her sister’s footsteps. They are both rangers and both have red hair. Arinea’s always had a sort of affinity for Owl, going as far as to tattoo Owl’s likeness on her back. She feels deeply for what the Spirits had done for her people so long ago. Which is about the only thing she feels that much for. Arinea is very coarse, independent, and stubborn. She travels Tyria alone with her owl and snow leopard.
Nyniendha - Reaper - Ex Pact Commander, Priory Archon For her I used the PoF booster and switched over to doing story on her. It was a smart move. She is more fitted to that kind of command and the stress that goes along with it. She’s around 5 in 1325. Also not sure what she had been doing beforehand, but I do know she had a lover who was killed by the Nightmare Court. She then went on to mentor Scylla, a young necromancer who had similar memories of the profession while inside the Dream. Despite Scylla’s cold and stand-offish personality, they became friends and eventually lovers.  Nyn is a very focused sylvari. She joined the battle fairly quickly when the Orders first began joining into the Pact for a final push against Zhaitan. She’s never been one to stand aside and let someone else do something she also could. She works alongside Cursa and whoever Sage picks as their “story commander” to lead everyone else. When she goes off to battle, Scylla stays behind in the Grove, not having a very big adventurous bug.
Birgaeve - Herald - Affiliated with no organization Bir is a bit younger than Nyniendha. While in the Dream, she was a magnet for the memories of those sylvari who died at the hands of asura experiments, causing Bir to have a high fear for the small race. The nightmares continued for a year after she emerged from the pod, leaving her mind weak and vulnerable. Her mentor at the time kept her in the Grove, afraid of the Nightmare Court getting their hands on her. I’m not sure how her mentor died, but Bir was put into the hands of Noelani, who took her outside the Grove to travel all over Tyria to Bir’s delight. They developed a very close relationship. One of those couples who barely sees anyone else around them except each other. Laerrim used to travel with them until it got awkward and he left for the Vigil and met Neva, but I’ll save his story for when he’s ready. Bir fell into a Mist portal while still traveling with Noe. While Noe was troubled by her companion’s sudden blindness, Bir was not. She keeps the blindfold on to spare Noe having to see the cloudiness. She is the most sylvari of my plants: curious, timid, sweet-natured, and adventurous. She wants to see everything and experience everything.
Valion Farsheos - Daredevil - Whispers Creator Just a common human from Divinity’s Reach. He has one of those always carefree, always joking attitudes that makes everyone around him not take him seriously. Gwen certainly didn’t. The first time they met, she hated him. They parted for a few years, I guess work kept them away, and the next time they met, his hair was down to his shoulders and he had a large feather hat on his head that he swept off in an elegant bow to her. She couldn’t resist, that changed her mind about him. He helps her with her Whispers work, as well as trying to get her out of the headquarters and her face buried in papers to do anything. Even if that means grabbing her physically and forcing her into the sunshine.
Therovin Quickblaze - Tempest - Leader of the Blaze warband Still a work in progress. He has something to do with the Fire Legion, so much that it’s given him a bad reputation with other Charr. Few will trust him. Regardless, he keeps to the Ascalon lands, looking to recruit misunderstood Gladiums such as himself. Morwen has shown interest in him, but he has not shown much interest back.
Tenya - Berserker - Mentoring under Zii A young asura, not quite 20 in I think the beginning year of 1325. She’s a headstrong and feisty little thing, known to bite if anyone taller than her like, say, a norn, picks her up. She’s very much an asura and prefers to be inside a lab, working on her many inventions.
Syena - Dragonhunter - Working for Zii Syena was married at a young age to a man she loved. When she was younger, she’d lost her cousin to the Svanir, having gone over to their side out of bitterness of never being as good as Syena in anything. That was one of the stories I had started already, so I’m not sure the outcome of it. I’ll let the story tell me itself. I’m pretty sure her cousin is dead. Her husband joined in the Great Hunt for Issormir while Syena was pregnant with their first child. Unfortunately, since only one person survives and that’s the player Norn, he did not. Syena went to work for Zii, having a fascination with asura for a long time, and wanting to take her mind off the death of her mate. She met a human noble while traveling. Don’t know the details on this other than the ending. They ended up married and Syena brought her daughter to live with them. They also raise two human boys together, the product of some soap-opheraesque plot, but without the drama. I’d prefer not trying to explain it at the moment. Syena is very much the mother of my entire account. When dealing with her two asura co-workers, she’s not afraid to use her size to her advantage. She also gives great bear hugs, not that I think Zii would agree.
Nicyena - Holosmith - Inquest Engineer My muse had the most fun with this one. I’ve already spoken about Nic a few times so far. I’m not sure her exact age, but as of 1325, she’s in her 40s. She’s the sister to Osin and Velkke. Nic has always been an unsympathetic, hot-headed one. She is the oldest of the three, with Osin coming next. In her childhood, she, like many progeny, was fascinated by the sciences. She had a particular love for making things. Anything. Little gadgets that did nothing but make noise and move to more dangerous things like spitting fire. When she made something new, she’d test it out on her little brother. As they grew older and she continued to target him for her experiments, eventually he fought back. Losing her easy target, Nic moved onto using Velkke for her tests, tattering his ears and his mental security in the process.  From there she apprenticed under her uncle Flynn, who at the time was working for the Inquest after the sylvari experiments had been shut down. That was fine with her. At least in the Inquest, she could continue to experiment and build without restriction. She has a fascination with fusing her fellow asura into golems and just experimenting with adding mechanical parts to living beings in general. She would love to get her hands on her niece, Dahlia, because of Dahlia’s damaged voice box. Could she make it work if she messed around a bit? Whether the younger woman survives the ordeal is of no consequence to Nic. Her favorite threats usually includes her operating table.
