okay ya'll i got another question. what do you think the architectural styles in revachol are like? are there any reoccurring design elements throughout the game or is just old buildings:tm:? i've noticed hexagons, wood, metal, and large pane glass windows, but that's about it.
if you think about the different eras of revachol here's kinda what you get. LONG FUCKING THOUGHTS ABOUT ARCHITECTURE INCOMING (2k words. i did it again. i went on a tangent). warning for mentions of genocide, mentions of culture erasure, colonization shit, racism, classism, etc
in the beginning, first settlements: before revachol was the revachol of current-era, it was a bunch of settled townships. i feel like there's an indigenous population here that has been since wiped out / only pockets remain. that's colonization for you! but i also feel like the indigenous population got worked into the culture of revachol as well. there's old, old pagan roots that seep through and into everything. the basis of revachol's culture is found in these pagan roots, mixed in with the culture of every nation in elysium to make one revacholian/insulindean culture.
at some point the townships, villages, and cities all unified into one Large city of Revachol. this is known as the Unification. i'm not sure where the original revachol was. there were a lot of folk-style houses and frontier-type buildings. architecture wasn't really something payed attention to: people just built what they could where they wanted to build it in the way they new how to build. so i think like old, wild-west type frontier shit, but all sorts of different folk influences from the countries they emigrated from. it might even have been less-sophisticated than that, considering it was 380 years ago. maybe stuff like the church in martinaise
all the old suzerainty monarchy buildings and neighborhoods: (in jamrock especially, which i think is the heart of revachol and where the monarchy used to be. the old wealth in west revachol vs the new wealth and gentrification and corporate greed now in revachol east. at some point the monarchy decided jamrock would be the new heart of the world, it being in the center of revachol as well.)
(cont. under cut, this is long)
after the unification, as the monarchy builds up, you get an era of mass-urban planning, reworking the old neighborhoods into new, architecturally designed ones to give revachol a unified sense of culture. there's a LOT of different leaders, so there's a LOT of different architectural styles that come out of these eras, based on what the leader was interested in / if they even cared about rebuilding
the styles probably have various influences from revachol's various imports: samara (the apricots), iilmaraa (marble and tobacco. this is definitely a HUGE influence bc they would build all their palaces out of this marble; i think they probably have something like ile marat revival, which is just copying ancient iilmaraan temples and cities), semenine (sugar), and cocaine from mundi. underneath all of it is the original insulindean folk architectural styles, and the original folk beliefs, superstitions, and religions
here's a few styles from this era that i think would be there:
the monarchy based off old-world temples and churches. holy and powerful. these are the oldest
residential and neighborhoods of a sort of "mundi revival" which is replicating the styles of the home country (bc these r colonists that come in). a nostalgia for the world left behind
then art deco and art nouveau, but it wouldn't be like our art deco and art nouveau. maybe the nouveau is oceancore instead of leaves and flowers? maybe the deco has to do with airships? conquering the pale? sunrise and light? not sure. these represent the progress and the "golden age" in a way that is futuristic and forward-looking.
GOLD from the Filippe III reign, and maybe gold is synonymous with downfall? bc i know that the cocaine and the gold era is when revachol really went to the pits. i feel this style turns away from the art found in the old government/monarchy buildings, the revival styles, and the deco and nouveau styles. tasteless, gaudy trash that represents as much opulence and luxury as possible. i feel like this sets revachol's standard for wealth and luxury: revachol east's new buildings are still based off the filippean gold style. this is the newest architectural style of the golden era of the suzerainty
not sure who's reign is the one of mass urban planning. someone gets it in their head that revachol should have wide boulevards, big parks, and a metro and tram system (like what happened in paris, france in the 1930s). maybe Flippe II, the Opulent? but im not sure how the technology would line up. regardless, by the time the communists take over in 02, revachol has been urban planned the shit, old old neighborhoods destroyed, a big, sprawling, sometimes nonsensical metro put in, electric lamps put in, a trolley system put in. modernized. during this era of modernization was when the most art deco and art nouveau styles came in, so a lot of the "newer" stuff (before the gold craze) such as the trolleys and the metro and the electricity and the power plants and the promenades and boulevards, etc. are in this style. a lot of this urban planning also stems out of the inherent racism and classism in the concept of "urban blight" and needing to "prettify" the city, ie erase the poor and/or immigrant neighborhoods and make this a beautiful, white city again (we're a revacholian, insulindean people, not a mixed melting pot. very western european ideals)
the only thing always left untouched are the massive temples of the monarchy, built out of iilmaraan marble and other imports from the rest of elysium (being the original center of the world, revachol is full of all sorts of influences from everywhere. not sure about seol. seol's closed its gates, so not a lot of stuff comes out of there, i think)
the commune: communism is about give everyone everything equally. whoever was leader of communist insulinde / revachol at the time (in between the civil wars) started a mass systematization project.
so they started bulldozing all the suzerainty-era revival, deco, and nouveau neighborhoods and replacing them with huge, monolothic, wall-like apartment blocks so everyone has equal living spaces. mass housing projects! yippee! now everyone has somewhere to live at least
communism comes with an attempt at coming up with a Single Unified Revacholian Culture which includes no religion, glorification of industry and agriculture (ie power to the lower class and the workers) and a push for industrial and agricultural progress, celebration of natural landforms, celebration of the old folk origins before colonization, etc. many plans are drawn up. there's a scheme to rebuild revachol from the ground up and make it a bastion of communist glory at the center of the known world. this systemization extends to other cities on insulinde as well, where industry is built up and mass housing projects are started. this is the era when you get upgraded factories and infrastructure. it's possible the commies built the 8/81. obviously, plans are cut short. there's mismanagement, corruption, civil wars, and finally the coalition bombing.
there's a few styles here as well:
brutalism, a testament to modern communist progress
revacholian revival, an attempt at a new take on the old mundi revival style architecture of the suzerainty
a lot of national symbols are incorporated into both brutalist and revival styles. lots of folk patterns, folk housing, folk symbolism. the apartment blocks look like impersonal monuments, but each one of them has their own stylings and paintings and colors
government buildings incorporate both brutalist progressivism and national folk glory
the folk shit comes from old, original insulindean indigenous/pagan influences. there's also influences from the folk stuff from mundi with a few of the import countries thrown in such as ilmaraa, etc. some attempt at revitalizing an appreciation for the places people came from to form a completely new, completely revacholian/insulindean identity
the communists restore (or attempt to / get started on restoring) the suzerainty palaces. most of these palaces are bombed out of existence by the coalition. (that's the burnt-out quarter in jamrock). a few palaces still remain on the outskirts of revachol, or in east revachol, or along the beaches, etc., but these are mostly pleasure palaces and residences for old kings and most, if not all, have fallen into disrepair. none of the government buildings are left
the new:
i know the economy is somehow, but im pretty sure during this tax haven, tax boom, whatever, there was a lot of architectural progress. old buildings got updated, some buildings got restored. things that weren't too expensive of projects to take on
i think there's a new style here that represents hope and optimism. a revival of the art deco style as well as the nouveau (spring blooming associations) as well as new architectural styles involving flashy colors, anti-brutalism, and anti-suzerainty style. taking all the old stuff and deconstructing it, combining the monarchy style with the art deco and the brutalism, making a truly new, unique architecture of revachol. maybe it's called new disco or something haha. it is a counter-culture, revolutionary type of architecture. it takes the monarchy and government styles and makes it for the people. it revitalizes old dreams out of the ashes. it forms something new. it's rebirth
this is when they start building hella' skyscrapers, especially in jamrock which is the heart of the industry, mostly in this new disco style (though the rich out in the east have always built skyscrapers, but theirs, according to the ideas of luxury, are flashy, gold monstrosities, all rigid and gaudy, without the vitality and disorganized chaos of new disco)
then the economy tanks again and revachol once more sinks into hell
you may ask yourself where's international and mid-century modern and minimalist styles? while i absolutely love the former two styles, i just can't see it that revachol would ever be refined. the communist's brutalist structures and stark, fascist government buildings are as refined as it gets. refined, meant to impose, meant to feel safe and strong. otherwise revachol's barely restrained need to live and breathe and shout from the rooftops flows out of every single one of their buildings, even the wealthy
also, a side note. all these architectural styles and shit definitely parallel how technology, furniture, fashion, hairstyles, art styles, literature, etc. are designed. all the ideals that are built into the architecture styles are reflected in the styles of the things the people use and buy and make and the way they look. but i don't know those things that well, i have architecture interests and that's about it, hahaha.
like you know how in game, their technology is completely different looking from ours? it's like ours but to the left. unfortunately, i'm not entirely sure what the designer's inspirations for it all are from, so i don't have much to go off in terms of designing new things

Some thoughts about TTRPGs, and the ubiquity of DnD.
As someone who does not *love* DnD… it is still the only game I’ve tried with that particular vibe. And I don’t mean “medieval fantasy”.
I mean, an achievement fantasy underscored by mechanics built around an individual success-and-improvement narrative, with a large social component. (You win as a team, but you improve and grow as individual characters.)
This is mechanical, independent of what your DM may or may not put in the game.
Let me list it out.
DnD has no standard mechanics for detriments.
As much as there are possibilities for certain monsters and afflictions to permanently harm or alter a character against the player’s will, a DM has to actively choose to put those in their game, and even then there are typically ways to heal or fix them. In a typical game, there are no permanent, mechanically enforced negatives for your dude; no lingering injuries, no madness, no disabilities, etc.
Recovery mechanics are also simple and accessible (looking at you, Long Rest) and resources are not really set up to be scarce and/or a slog to track and ration.
(Mind you: I’m talking about mechanics that impose a permanent debuff or handicap on your character against your will as a feature of the game, not about playing a disabled character as your own choice.)
Simple, straightforward ability growth as a central mechanic.
DnD is almost entirely designed around characters becoming cooler and stronger over time. This ability growth is straightforward: no complicated skill tree system where you can get screwed over by your own suboptimal choices.
There is also no standard mechanic to lose abilities you’ve gained, nor is your degree of improvement every level left to chance. (The closest DnD comes to a chance mechanic in this area is rolling for HP, and even that’ll let you take average if you roll below). The game is set up to reward your character with ability growth just for continuing to play it.
Success narrative dominates.
The primary completion path in all DnD modules is “the characters win the day”. That’s what the game is about. And as much as some modules may try to subvert that with little bits of flavour text here and there, they’re doing so for show. The very manner a DM has to set up sessions is all about making the challenges appropriately levelled for the players to overcome. If you’re playing, you’re *supposed* to overcome the challenge. A game where everyone dies is not considered expected or desirable. And while a creative DM may occasionally set up an encounter the characters are expected to flee from… if it’s not telegraphed properly, the odds are they WILL die. Because the game is not set up for players to expect unbeatable challenges.
Significant character agency where it matters.
Agency is about more than just being able to make choices in-game. In DnD, you have the ability to make choices that feel situationally impactful. You’ll rarely have a situation where you consistently do everything “right”, roll well, and yet the enemy is entirely unaffected. Your abilities aren’t vague in power level or usefulness -even if you aren’t a particularly creative player, the stuff that’s on your character sheet that you can do is going to be at least moderately useful in most situations a typical game throws at you, even if applied with little finesse.
Like I said, I don’t *love* DnD. I’m not super sold on medieval fantasy to begin with, I’m pretty bad at basic number math (I have dyscalculia so this shit is hard for me), and I like supporting indie and less popular titles on principle.
But holy shit.
Can somebody tell TTRPG designers to please make a game that just lets me be cool and win at something?
I want to play a badass vampire! But in Vampire: The Masquerade, that’s kinda… Not Great. I want to be a faux-Victorian era paranormal investigator! But, ehm, Call of Cthulhu? Having my character die or go insane kinda sucks. I like scifi! But everything from Cyberpunk RED to the various iterations of Warhammer 40k RPG is bleak as fuck.
Mörk Borg? Dark and bleak. Candela Obscura? Dark and bleak. The Laundry? Dark and bleak.
(I’m not counting Pathfinder, as it’s basically just DnD with more math and a less straightforward character builder.)
I know I’m only scratching the very top surface of less ubiquitous TTRPGs here, but still. All these relatively well known and oft recommended titles completely fail to capture what makes DnD appealing to me -and I suspect, to many others.
In TTRPG spaces I often see people ask “Why modify and reskin DnD to be (insert aesthetic) if you can play (game designed in that aesthetic)?” And my answer is always the same. Because I want to have the DnD-style success experience, only with (cool aesthetic thing).
I want to play other games! I’m not hung up on medieval fantasy or the d20 system or spell slots or anything! I just… don’t want to play some bottom-feeding cannon fodder character in a Misery Simulator, engage with complex ethics as a game mechanic, run a one-person accountancy department to keep track of tons of scarce resources, have the other players as my de-facto opponents, be faced with challenges my character can’t do anything to overcome, invest hours into building a dude who gets offed in the first encounter, put my time in a game that progressively stacks detriments onto my character to shrink their success chances while the stakes keeps growing, etcetera etcetera.
Just, none of that edgy shit. Life’s plenty edgy already, I just want some easy escapism.
Anyway.
If anyone has recommendations for a TTRPG that sort of matches my list of requirements… I’m all ears. I like most stuff aesthetically tho I’m not super into either pirates or contemporary military as a theme. I also prefer games that don’t employ a gimmick (like jenga blocks, an hourglass, burning candles, etc).

51. Welcome Home! Chibi-Robo! Happy Rich Big Sweep! (DS, 2009)
Original title: Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! Happy Richie Ōsōji!
Fan name: Chibi-Robo! Clean Sweep
Tumblr media
Okaeri! Chibi-Robo! is an absolutely amazing sequel to the original Chibi-Robo! for GameCube
Taking elements from all previous entries to create the best game in the series yet.
Hoo boy! This game floored me, man!
I genuinely didn’t expect this to come close to the original considering it’s on the DS of all things but man I’m I glad to be proven wrong.
Ok! Let’s get straight into this I am excited to write about this.
Welcome Home! Chibi Robo!'s story takes place in Jenny Sanderson's house (from the first game!! yknow! The frog girl!), the house is in really bad condition as jenny and her family are quite poor.
In order to help with the finances and keep the house clean, the family saves up for a chibi-robo to help with those tasks.
You have your work cut out for you from here! Clean and make cash in order to make the life of the family better.
Pretty simple.
And from there... here I go rambling about the gameplay and story. OH MAN I HAVE ALOT TO SAY YOU DONT EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS GAMEAGH....
Let's start with the gameplay... holy shit it’s so good man
So. how do you go around? it is a 3D DS game after all... how do you control the game?
... with the touch screen- HEAR ME OUT IT WORKS
While not as comfy as the original, the touch screen implementation is really well done! you grow quite used to it and because of how its set up, the dpad is dedicated to camera control which works out great!
Tumblr media
Because of how you are likely to hold the device there L button is there for some extra actions mapped to it! ... that I will get to later.
Controls are alright!
Let’s put in place some basics. Chibi-Robo runs on a small rechargeable battery. You have a timer on you at all times. every second you stay still or take a step, your battery goes down.
Everything you do uses battery which creates this fun loop of trying to look for a charger every time you are low on power.
This has been standard for every game in the series. you do well and after a while you get a battery upgrade to explore more comfortably.
Actually, this game makes the loop even faster by not making every plug a save point which was an issue with the original. In the original every time you plugged into an outlet the game would ask you if you would like to save which was... annoying past a certain bit. Here the only save point is your chibi-house which works out. I do get why the original was made like that, the Sanderson’s house is massive so being able to save anywhere helps a fair bit but the smaller design here makes it so that wouldn’t make much sense.
What about that smaller design eh? how’s the house
Jenny's house is so damm fun to explore!! despite the cutback in CPU power due to being on the DS, Okaeri! Chibi Robo! has an immense sense of scale. areas truly feel hugeeee and there is a nice use of verticality that I will also get to in a bit.
The game also looks quite good! of course... not as good as the original but for DS standards its quite nice and stylized!
Tumblr media
Despite having less rooms than the original. I’d say it does a way better job than the original Sanderson's house in making a lot with less space.
We have a Living Room, a Kitchen, a hallway, a bathroom, rooms for Jenny and Keith (Jenny's son) and the backyard
They are all full of things to do!
Same as in the original, you can also enter a wide variety of small areas inside those rooms like the chimney, the couch, the AC (when you buy it), the water pipes, a hidden ghost casino... I won’t explain that one, under the house and so on!
There is a lot to explore which makes going around a joy!!
Chibi's arsenal is a bit different this time around. No chibi copter this time, as the need for it vanished when falling damage was removed (which is a godsend here btw), no blaster or radar, no mug or boombox from park patrol made a return but the spoon, toothbrush and the squirter (featuring its park patrol look) did make a return!
And there is the inclusion of a few vehicles you can use to speed up your travels
Tumblr media
But the most important out of all them is... the vacuum cleaner.
This is the most important part of the gameplay loop.
The vacuum only works when plugged into a wall which creates a lot of interesting scenarios where you have to see how to get to certain places or clean certain things that are out of your reach.
you can only go as far as your cord cable extends. you can upgrade this with cash at the chibi-house but for a while you will be struggling to clean everything with how small your cord is.
anyway, by vacuuming dust and cleaning dirt. you increase a rooms Sparkle Rate, which indicates how clean a room is.
The cleaner the room, the more upgrades and furniture you can buy for them!
The more you clean the more money you earn
When you fill one dust bag... you can use it to sieve for gold and gems.
Tumblr media
This will be your main method of making money for most of the game!
If you clean a lot, you get a lot of gold which is a significant amount of money.
and with the thrash you clean off, you can generate more power to the house... Oh yeah, the house runs off recycled waste which makes gives the player an incentive the clean!
No cleaning? No power, No Power? No Chibi Robo
So, the loop is Clean > Sieve > Buy > Repeat
While a game about cleaning may sound boring... it has one trick up its sleeve... one thing that changes this whole game to make it one of the most fun things ever... the cord throw...
When grabbing your plug over your head, you can hold L to start swinging it around, when its full charged it can be thrown a long distance (as long as your cord length is long enough) which leads some fantastic verticality not possible in the original
The original chibi robo had a problem with verticality where going up was a pain and falling down was too punishing. it was frustrating specially with the 15 minute time limit per day but okeri just... does not suffer from this one bit because you can do stupid shit like this in EVERY ROOM IN THE GAME.
... YOU SEE HOW THIS IS FUN RIGHT??
While yes you can’t do this as soon as you start, it’s still immensely rewarding getting to this point
Everything in okaeri feels like you are working towards something. You see your cord length go even farther than before, you see the house look nicer and nicer with more furniture you buy. Okaeri Chibi-Robo is an absolute joy to play because of this, your progression is displayed so clearly.
To go back to launching the plug for a second, every aspect of the house is designed with it in mind. A lot of plugs are put in a way so chibi can climb up there even with a low cord length so progression is usually not gated.
in no moment do you need to have a max length cord in the whole game so don’t worry about being short on cord.
Ok so the gameplay is great and has a great sense of progress... what about the story and characters
Starting with the toys!
Theresss a new set of toys in this game! Only one set familiar faces are here, that being of the free rangers and their underground explorations.
They are all so charming and fun! their side quests are all an absolute joy to get done!
I actually did all of them for my playthrough and was genuinely surprised when I didn’t have more of them to do. I genuinely wanted to do more of them but there wasn’t any more to do.
I loved doing Habanero's, Ketchup's and Iberico's side quests. those three were my favorites. no shade to the toucan phone tho, that was fun too.
All of them give you unique costumes with unique powers that are activated by pressing the L button! The police outfit lets you shoot with L, you can swim with the diving gear with L, you can pull out a guitar with ketchup's outfit and so on! its cool!
It does have less content than plug into adventure sadly but it is what it is, It is a DS game after all and it does enought for me to be satisfied with.
now... the story... man
SPOILERS FOR THE STORY.
Go to the next big bold text in order to continue
Okay so I set the basics down with why are you on Jenny's house... well as you continue to help you start seeing how the family has certain troubles apart from poverty...
You see her, her son Keith and the family dog, Lucky at all times but never Karl, Jenny's husband... and Keith makes mention of how he wants to see his father again after progressing the story enough.
After Keith says that, at night you can visit Jenny where she tells you the truth.
Karl, passed away in an accident before they could get married, Keith was born before they could get married.
Jenny never knew is Karl genuinely wanted to marry her or not as he often joked around the idea...
Okaeri Chibi Robo is a that deals with topics of loss in its own unique way as you help the family cope with the loss of Karl.
Jenny tries to move on, dating a guy she met at work... but Keith can’t let it go, getting mad at her mom for doing such a thing as she was devoted to his father...
After a while. you help Keith cope with all of this and you even get to talk to Karl's spirit
You realize that he did want to marry Jenny all along and you help him make the wedding Jenny never got.
The game ending with Karl and Jenny's wedding under the moonlight.
Karl's spirit passing away to the afterlife with no regrets, saying good bye to his family.
END OF SPOLERS
I could keep going but me making a summary like that is a disservice to how well done everything is.
In some ways its goofy but it’s so earnest and earned... in ways only chibi-robo can do.
The characters help the story a lot, they are all well done, you feel for Jenny's struggle as a single mom and how Keith misses his dad. You can’t help but feel sorry for them which pushes you to try to help them get out of poverty
The main cast and the side characters are all fantastic and enjoyable. They are one of the best parts of Okaeri! Chibi-Robo, managing to capture the charm of the characters found in the original game.
Okaeri Chibi-Robo is a wonderful experience that I don’t think I did justice here. it’s a game that you truly have to experience by yourself to have a good idea of how unique and fantastic it is.
Its def one of the best games I’ve played this year and I left out a lot of aspects of the game on purpose in order to entice you to find out things by yourself.
I love this game... there’s not a lot of games out there that can be goofy and as heartfelt as chibi robo...
9/10
one point taken off because... it is dragged down by being stuck on the DS, most sound effects are heavily compressed and don’t sound the best and the music isn’t that good honestly... which is a huge shame as skip is known for their oddly catching melodies in their games (Specially in Plug Into Adventure and Captain Rainbow)
My apologies if this was pretty scattershot and not great to read. Its hard to put into words how I feel about certain games that I love... and the next review wont be any easier with it being E.X. Troopers...

Castlevania II Simon's Quest Part 2: Crouching Belmont Hidden Pathway
Beating Castlevania II without a guide on hand is borderline impossible.
I know this has been said plenty of times in the past but this really needs to be pointed out just in case someone thinks it’s an exaggeration
You see it’s not simply the fact that, as was the case with many open ended adventure games back then, this game features no map, in fact I’d say that Castlevania II is way better than Metroid 1 in this regard because it does a much better job at making most areas feel distinct so that it’s indeed possible to navigate this game without a map
It’s about just how downright cryptic getting to your next objective often is
It’s not just about finding the next mansion it’s about figuring out how to get there and this often requires you to get specific items, go to specific locations and perform specific actions in order to trigger specific events
The game does an absolutely miserable job at communicating stuff to you and while many will be quick to point out that it’s all the fault of the shitty english translation that’s only half true: while some clues are indeed more useful in the original japanese text, others are still incredibly vague, not to mention that many of these clues, useful or not, are often found within breakable walls that have no visible markers that may clue you in to the fact that they’re breakable, essentially the same issue as Metroid 1 where you’d have to bomb (or in this case throw Holy Water at) everything just in case there’s a hidden passage. In fact I’d say it’s worse here because, at least in my opinion, in Metroid 1 it’s purely about finding the path to proceed and the world in general is more interconnected, here if you miss a clue you probably won’t be thinking about going back to one of the mansions to throw Holy Water at the walls just on the off chance that you might find something because, as it turns out, plenty of clues (though not all) are found within the Mansions, and even those that are not can still be every bit as cryptically hidden as everything else here
Call me cynical but I think that this was all pretty intentional. And before anyone says “Yeah but I was able to complete this game all by myself in the 80s and we didn’t have Internet like you kids have nowadays!” No but you DID have gaming magazines and Nintendo Power, which Konami absolutely knew because Castlevania II was essentially the star of its very second volume which featured an extensive guide of the game’s first half.
This is an aspect of retro game design, specifically old adventure games, that has always pissed me off and I’m surprised no one ever mentions this because this stuff is almost on the same level as microtransactions or forced DLC: purposefully making the game almost impossible to complete without a guide so as to push the little kiddies to shell out for the next edition of a game magazine. I guarantee that if companies pulled this shit nowadays you’d get a legion of angry youtubers bitching about this nonstop but because this was a thing back when most gamers were still kids nobody thinks about this and some even have fond memories of looking up game guides and such. It’s one thing to make a game hard like the original CV but that can still be beaten with hardwork, it’s another to make another that can only be beaten by painstakingly combing every pixel in the game until you find what you’re looking for while companies flash a bright and tantalizing game guide in your face
And Castlevania II unfortunately is the poster boy for this kind of mentality

Hey, can you tell me a little more about how RE6 was recieved by fans? I know it's generally disliked, but I'm curious as to how original fans actually reacted to the writing. When I played it a few months ago (I got into RE last year), it absolutely threw me. I thought the characterisation and the romances and overall plot were horrendous. I'm even wary of accepting half of it as canon!
First, there's Jake Muller. While I did actually like him, because I thought the whole anti-hero trope was refreshing, his whole superpowered story that was never picked up again was... pretty bad. Chris and his amnesia was tolerable at best. I did actually enjoy his dynamic with Piers (and I shipped the hell out of them I'm ngl, lol) but he felt so ?? off. I can't explain it. I thought how Piers was killed was super cheap and unnecessary too.
Then there's Leon... jesus christ Leon. He was awful in that game. He had such a weird relationship with Helena and an underwhelming reunion with Sherry. Then there's the absolute mess that was his relationship to Ada. It made me physically cringe. "You... have feelings." This man has not seen her in YEARS, with a long history of betrayal. Why in the world is he moping around and getting into physical altercations with Chris Redfield to protect her, ignoring her crimes? I laughed so hard. They made him absolutely absurd and senseless. I can't stand the RE6 version of him, I'm sorry. He was hard to tolerate.
Then... the Ada campaign. Holy Jesus the Ada campaign, with the slime clone!? WHAT WAS THAT!? And apparently she dated the villain or something and he was upset because he was madly in love with her, if I remember correctly? I specifically saved her campaign for last because I was so excited for Ada content, only to be met with the laziest, cardboard cutout 2000's Hollywood tropes. Tripe. But at least I got a good laugh from it.
Am I alone with these opinions? I genuinely thought pretty much everything about it was rubbish, lacking effort and made no sense. They were ALL weirdly out of character and I'd never desire to replay it. Could this be a general consensus? I'd love to hear your experience and what the original reception was like. I know RE6 is generally slated, but that seems for gameplay, rather than the rubbish story!
Most of the criticisms about RE6's story surrounded:
Leon being a "simp" for Ada
Simmons just making absolutely no sense at all and turning into a T-Rex somehow and making the confrontation with him underwhelming and stupid as a result
Sherry's powers being underwhelming and kind of a cop-out for giving her extreme plot armor
Chris's amnesia being completely pointless and stupid, as well as his entire campaign being horribly unfun to play
The Carla Radames storyline being the single dumbest shit in mainline Resident Evil, and that includes the whole Ashford siblings thing involving Alexia being a 7 year old prodigy working alongside Albert goddamn Wesker
There were other criticisms, too, surrounding the enemy and level designs, as well as the game's tendency to just have something blow up when they didn't know how to transition a scene. But. Those ^ were the big things.
The three things that were regularly and almost universally praised about RE6's writing were:
The general atmosphere of Leon and Helena's campaign
Piers Nivans
The pacing and imagery of Ada's campaign
#3 has since been removed from the list, because the whole tone of her campaign got fucked up when they patched in a co-op partner for her.
But, on RE6's release, Ada's campaign was a solo mission, and it was praised as the single best campaign in the game, period. Ada being forced to go through a maze of hallways with images of her own face forming on the walls and a voice yelling "I AM ADA WONG" was genuinely unnerving back when it was just her going it alone. And, back then, her campaign wasn't available from the start, either. You had to beat all three of the other campaigns first to even unlock it.
I, personally, was far less critical of RE6 than most of the wider fandom was -- and that was for a few reasons.
I was able to forgive RE6 for a lot of its stupid bullshit because I loved other parts about it so much more than I hated it, and those beloved parts were:
Giving us better insight on Leon's mental state through the various files found throughout the game
Giving us Leon and Chris's friendship and portraying it as beautifully as they did (I said this before, but I walked away from RE6 thinking "No one on this planet loves Leon Kennedy more than Chris Redfield does")
Giving us Leon as a full-grown adult and a professional (before the whole bullshit with Ada poked its fucking ass into his campaign and ruined the story)
Chris's personality, for the most part. In the flashback sections before his men are killed/he ends up with amnesia, and then later in the game after Leon soothes his giant asshurt about Ada -- those sections are some of the best moments Chris has as a character post-REmake (huge parts of RE5 were not kind to him lmao)
Ada's campaign, for the reasons listed above
Turning Wesker into a pump&dump deadbeat dad (I'm sorry but this is still very funny to me, even today)
Actually returning Sherry to the storyline and keeping her kind-hearted and good-natured instead of dead inside like she very well could have been (also RE6 is the only title in the entire series that actually calls attention to Leon's paternal love for Sherry, even a little bit)
Piers Nivans. Just... in general. Piers is still the best-written, most charismatic single-title character that Resident Evil has ever produced, and yes I'm including Remake Luis and Remake Ashley in that. I love him unconditionally, and I'm so upset that he's dead.
The Rasklapanje monsters being objectively scarier than Regenerators, somehow
... Even though you can put their limbs in the microwave and shit, which is actually hilarious and I love it
The combat system just in general. People shit on RE6's combat only because they don't understand it. If you try to just stand and shoot things like RE4 and RE5, you're gonna run out of ammo and you're gonna have a bad time. RE6 is a hybrid shooter/brawler that encourages a very aggressive playstyle. Once you figure that out, this game becomes HELLA fun.
I think RE6 has the potential to be great in the Remake series, because there is a lot of good stuff there. It's just buried under the much more obvious, glaring, REALLY BAD SHIT that's there, too.

I've barely scratched the surface of TotK and I can feel my brain wanting to disappear down the Zelda rabbit hole. I am desperately trying to keep at least half of it in my writing brainspace but damn is it hard. There's so much temptation to just plop down with my Switch for the next eight hours and forget about everything else.
Anyway, I'm still very early in but I'll put my ramblings under the cut just in case.
-I know the popular joke was that TotK is just "$70 DLC." Obviously it is not with all of the new content, but it genuinely feels like I'm playing BotW again, only with new tools and new places to discover. And I don't consider that a bad thing! I spent almost 300 hours playing BotW and still wished there was more I could do (aside from hunting down all the Koroks because screw that), so I'm happy to be revisiting this world and exploring it all over again. Though I won't lie that I miss having all the gear and upgrades I had by the end of BotW. I'd forgotten how easy it is to die in stupid ways early on.
-Holy hell is there so much to explore. Maybe too much. Even with the nudges the game gives you, it's really hard to know where to even begin once you leave the Great Sky Island. I haven't even done any of the main dungeons yet; I've just been wandering around looking for shrines and seeing what's changed. It's even more daunting knowing there's stuff in the sky and in the depths to explore as well.
-The Depths freak me out. I've only been in there once and I'm not eager to go back until I'm stronger. Never been a fan of dark places in video games; you never can know what's lurking there, waiting to ambush you.
-It's nice to see all the familiar NPCs. Bumping into Purah and Robbie right away made me smile.
-It's also nice to see that Hyrule's been rebuilding since the end of BotW, but that evidence of the Calamity still exists (Castle Town especially). It makes the world feel that much more organic and real.
-That opening sequence was choice. Like, the approach to Ganon's lair, with the increasing gloom and the ominous music, literally sent shivers down my spine. Good shit.
-Ultrahand is amazing and I've only just begun to really play with its powers.
-To whomever at Nintendo designed the Gloom Spawn/Grabby hands/Nightmare Fuel, I hate you. May all your bacon burn for the rest of your life.
-I miss the Bomb runes SO MUCH.
-What happened to all the Sheikah technology anyway? I totally get dismantling all the Guardians considering they were the scourge of Hyrule for a long time, but did the towers and the Slate just...stop working?
-I'm fascinated by Rauru (and no, it's not just because he has Dimitri's voice, though I won't lie that it makes him that much more appealing, lol). So, we know that's his right arm that Link is "borrowing," and all of Link's new powers specifically come from that arm. And that same arm was keeping Ganon sealed away for....some length of time I'm not aware of yet, but I'm guessing it was awhile. And the new shrines are implied to contain fragments of Rauru's power as well. Just how powerful is this guy? Also, the reveal that he's the first King of Hyrule too (and married to a Hylian woman!) just makes things more interesting.
Tumblr media
Also, also, look how adorable he is! I want to pet his ears and brush his hair! But I also want see him go ham at some point because the game sure as hell implies that he's god-like and I'm here for it.
...But it'll probably also make me sad because he's well, dead now and it's likely because sealing Ganon away cost him his life. =(
(I'm still reeling that Rauru's voiced by Chris Hackney, and it's even more wild with Matt Mercer being the voice of Ganon. How is it that the VAs of both of my FE husbands wound up in this game? Thanks for making sure the brainrot never ends, Nintendo!)

Nobody asked me, but now that I've finished the main story of both Danganronpa games (Let's Plays, anyway, I'm going to play myself now), here are the thoughts running through my head. This post will be for the first game, I'll make another post for the second one.
(spoilers under the cut: I know the games have been out for a while but still):
1. It took me a LONG time to finish the first game after the first execution. I really liked Leon and not just because his design reminded me of Kirishima from MHA. I felt really bad about the situation he was in, even if, you know, he still killed Sayaka, his death was Brutal. I stopped watching for a few months because it haunted me, until my sister encouraged me to keep going because she wanted to talk to someone about it.
2. On that note, WHY, of all the available classmates, did Sayaka pick Leon as her potential victim? Why, if your goal was to kill, would you pick one of the Ultimate athletes? I feel like she would have had far more success if she'd chosen Hifumi or even Chihiro (sorry bb, I love you). Is there a lore reason behind it?
3. All that said, I am unfortunately interested in Leosaya content for the dramatic irony and tragedy of it, so if anyone has suggestions, let me know, and I also want to see Leon and Ibuki being best buds because she left her music group to pursue her actual creative dreams and Leon hated baseball and wanted to pursue dreams of being a musician and I can see them teaming up to be in a weird-ass band together. Someone direct me to any Leon and Ibuki platonic (or romantic, I'm down) content.
4. I think Leon is gaining blorbo status for me, but not as much as some other characters from the second game, but this is in no coherent order so bear with me, and also keep in mind, I have yet to play through all his possible dialogue in the School Mode version of the game so this is liable to change.
5. I went from waiting eagerly for Byakuya to die to being devastated that he died in the second game to REALLY HAPPY that that apparently wasn't even him (though I do like the Imposter & would like to know more about them). AND THEN to being so excited that he's apparently in a power throuple with Kyoko and Makoto, OT3s FOR THE WIN!!!!
6. Hina and Sakura were really sweet, and I Loooooove how protective Hina was, because yeah, the whole point of the fourth case was she underestimated Sakura's strength, but I also think Sakura deserved to be protected. Just because she's strong doesn't mean she didn't deserve people defending her.
7. On that note, ya'll, when I didn't know what to expect from this game, I legit thought somehow Mondo and Taka were going to die in that sauna. My stomach was in knots over it. Then they just. Were bros. And I was confused but on board with them (platonically AND romantically) and then the second case devastated me and not just because I had to watch Taka be Sad for so long.
5. I feel...so bad about the whole case with Mondo and Chihiro. They were BUDDIES. I know the whole point of the story is that people betray each other but God, imagine the "motive" you were given wasn't so much a motive as it was a fucking PTSD break and it lead to you killing someone that you were not only cool with, but who admired you for qualities you didn't feel worthy of, just FUCK--
6. If you let yourself stop and think of the Everything about these games and the stories, it really fucks you up, let me live in No Despair Land where everyone's friends with each other and there's no murder--
7. Also, the whole thing with Junko. I remember, before I took a break after Leon's execution, vaguely wondering about her last words? But it was a fleeting thought that didn't lead to anything, AND THEN IT CAME BACK AROUND??? So holy shit, that was cool.
8. Gotta say, as frustrating as a lot of repetitive stuff in the game got, I understood why it was needed for the case solving portion. As some of you can tell from my Clone Wars series with sweetiepie08, I LOVE mystery solving stuff when it's done right, and even if some of them are So SO convoluted, it's satisfying to see how they fall together.
9. The VAs in these games are fucking awesome. Even if some of the shit they had to say was ridiculous (which is par the course if that's your job), they did so damn good.
10. YA'LL, I legit thought Makoto was about to be executed, so when Alter Ego suddenly showed up and saved him, I shrieked, and then KYOKO found him, and I know a lot didn't happen after that except a shit ton of exposition, but I was so psyched.
11. *sigh* I don't know what the public opinion is of Toko, but she drove me insane with the debilitating inferiority complex. And then the Genocide Jack/Jill thing happened and I mean, at least she was...slightly more interesting with that, but still, I think Toko was somehow my least favorite out of the whole gang, next to Hifumi. I also would not have predicted that she'd be one of the final survivors.
12. I legit thought Hiro was going to snap at one point after his long period of denial at the beginning. I thought he'd snap and kill someone or get killed, so when he survived until the end, I was very surprised.
13. Tbh, I did not predict the endgame survivors for either Danganronpa. I think literally all I would have gotten right was Makoto, Kyoko, and Hajime. Everyone else was quite a surprise to me.
14. Not to compare another Danganronpa character to MHA, but I was super fond of Taka right off the bat because he's so Tenya coded, those two are definitely cousins or something.
15. Someone add onto my agenda of doing a Danganronpa x MHA fusion somehow, I'll make thoughts on another post.
16. I really loved Kyoko's dynamic with Makoto, idk why, and I just fucking love Kyoko in general, she's so cool. Sherlock Holmes, step aside.
That's about it! I'll make a post about the second game later.

I just finished God of War Ragnarok, and I wondered what your thoughts on it were? I loved all the little callbacks to the first one throughout the game
I hope you enjoyed it, anon!
I really enjoyed my playthrough right until I hit post game and the combat really started to piss me off. It was a bit disappointing. It's not unique to Ragnarok, I had similar issues with the combat in 2018, but the fact Ragnarok had so many moving pieces to its combat (4 weapons, if you count barehand/fists, and different amulets and two arrow sets, and artifacts, and such an emphasis on special effects in armor sets... etc.) really made the places where battles became essentially puzzles with very specific answers, and if you're not willing to meet the game in its own terms, you're gonna have a Bad Time. My bone with gear-based combat is that it reaches a point where your skill level doesn't matter. Your understanding of mechanics and combat doesn't matter. If you're not geared up appropriately, the game will not let you through, or will make the experience excruciatingly obnoxious. I found the valkyrie fights, and specifically Sigrun, to be one of the best combat experiences in a game, because it became... a conversation, of sorts. I did not feel that way, about a lot of combat encounters in Ragnarok. Some of the berserkers were incredibly infuriating because it seemed like anything I tried to respond with resulted in a loud "NO, WRONG! TRY AGAIN!" from the game, because I wasn't spec'd properly, and I mostly ended up overleveling to tank damage and get through some of the toughest fights. The fight with Gna was frankly disappointing, when compared with Sigrun, because it had a lot more about status effects and pushing towards specific needs in your gear load out to make your way through it. Which to be perfectly fair, it's a logical extension of the original gear-based combat in 2018, it's just not one I particularly enjoy.
That's about the only thing I didn't like about the game. Everything else?
Holy fuck.
The music, the visual compositions, the camera work... I've heard quite a few criticisms about rushed writing, but I think the writing of the entire game is superb. I think it's definitely much more effective than 2018's - I think the "Atreus goes mad with power" sections of 2018 are pretty maligned and often blown out of proportion, but Ragnarok definitely doesn't have a section like that. I think the writing reveals a deep understanding of the component blocks of each character and a clear, chartered plan to where they're going. I love that the twists are very well setup and you can actually call them if you're detail oriented (@darkpuck clocked The Spoiler in my streams over an accent mark!) and that the development feels like pay off. Most of the story and writing in this game is just. Aggressively to my taste. People in my streams called out that Kratos echoes a lot of my personal choices writing characters like Cor and like... yeah! Yeah! He's pure Rie-nip. It's great.
The music is absolutely gorgeous and works fantastically well with the visual design. I love the care put into every bit of everything that appears on screen. There's a lot of love and thoughtfulness put into every aspect of this world, distinct design that creates tiny dialects and languages across the different groups of people, the different cultures. I specially loved the way the team clearly knew the mythology, and every specific choice they made, that changed or contradicted the mythology, was done purposefully and with enough build up that it felt like a fucking wink. It was amazing.
I'm going to be having feelings about Kratos, Freya and Mimir wandering the realms and having adventures and figuring out shit for approximately forever. It was a GOOD game. (I just got really salty about the post game combat.)
Speaking of callbacks, the way the most important scenes in the entire game reuse dialogue from the previous one, but fundamentally changing its meaning in the process just... GodDAMN.
I seethe with envy and jealousy at the master skill on display.

Episode 7: The Fey Realm.
If high fantasy's your thing, have we got a show for you today. Cursed swordsman, mysterious faerie realms, and grappling with destiny. Just make sure to get your seat before the lights go down.
The Good.
I appreciate Keyleth's freak-out after they realized they were separated from the gnomes and Grog. Too often, when characters don't get a moment to be distraught, it makes the stakes feel lower than they should. Or makes it feel like the cast doesn't care about each other all that much. So that was refreshing.
Also, good call to split up the group. That makes it easier for the show CRew; no need to figure out how to write and animate seven characters at once. Plus, that divides the audience's attention, making the plot easier to follow. And in smaller groups, it gives individual characters more time to shine.
Serious kudos is deserved for the design of the Fey Wild itself. Young Heller, episode director, and guest for the watch along, nailed it on the head when he described the Realm of the Fey as a character unto itself. Honestly, it comes across as even more alien and other here than it can in the game. Unless the DM wants to change things up, the game mechanics don't vary that much when you hang out there. So it can feel like only another weird area among many, depending on the story you're trying to tell.
Watching Craven Edge soak up Pike's blood from a distance while she's trying to heal, without even a wielder, is disturbing. It gives the impression that if left unchecked, this thing could turn into something even more dangerous than it already is.
Getting rid of Craven Edge was more involved in the stream, so they knew they had to make its destruction here brutal enough that it felt like death for the sword. For my money, they managed it; Grog breaking the sword had the visceral impact of a bone breaking in half. And the small ocean of blood it expels is like all its power and evil being released back into the world.
Holy shit Billy Boyd as Garmelie. He is perfect; the design and Billy's performance are just spot on what I would imagine a native fey creature to act like. Whimsical, self-interested, sort of smart ass, charming as all hell....everything about it is fantastic. I only wish we could've seen more of him. No notes.
Well, except for Garmelie's notes which....yeah, exactly right. Absolutely accurate to the stream. What a fabulously gross, cheeky little gremlin man.
My reactions to Pike and Scanlan's song, in order:
Oh, is this the song Sam hinted at during the pre-season interviews?
Wow, Ashley and Sam sound great together. They should do more duets.
...Wait, what are those lyrics?
These ridiculous little shits. (<-affectionate)
If you know, you know. But if you don't, it's just a good song.
Don't think we didn't pick up on those nine eyes Vex saw when she was sliding into a bad trip. It's weird and ominous to think that, in this universe, that's still around. And that the person who will trigger the confrontation with that whole thing....technically isn't even born yet.
I can't say enough about how pretty the Fey Realm is. Just....so gorgeous at every point.
And, of course, Cheech Marin is Trinket. Of course, he is.
The Bad. (Or at least not great.)
One thing that bothers me is that there are two angles they tried to hit in this episode that, due to poor execution, just...don't work. One is Percy being a more ineffective guide to the Fey Realm than he thinks he is, and the other is that the Realm Does Not Like the Matron's Champion in general on life vs. death principles.
When Percy warned the half-elves that the forest they were traveling through could pick up on a poor mood, we all knew what would happen. Vax has, understandably, been in a funk for days. So it wasn't hard for the audience to guess that the negativity-detecting plants would take one look at this boy and collectively go: get his ass.
Percy wasn't wrong about the vines; Vax was never going to be able to pass through them unscathed.
Likewise, when the rest of the group seems to think Percy doesn't know where he's leading them or is lost, that idea is undercut by the fact they've just reached the upside-down waterfall. The very same waterfall from Scanlan's vision of where Fenthras was. So the visual tells the audience Percy is actually on the right track, no matter how skeptical of him the group is in-universe.
As for Vax, the encounter with the mood forest muddles the idea that the Fey Realm is against him because it doesn't like death-aligned individuals in general.
Because Vax was initially attacked due to his emotional state, the potential takeaway was that the Fey Realm doesn't like bad vibes. And Vax is nothing but bad vibes right now.
It's another case of the script and the dialogue telling us one thing while what's actually happening tells us something contradictory. It's frustrating.
More Grog nerfing....eh. Makes a little more sense than some of the Season 1 moments, and it makes the fight in Episode 10 go even harder, but it still feels a little cheap to me. If I'm going to be nitpicky.
And that's about it. Next is a good one folks. See you there.

Hiii, so idk who else to tell this too but backstory my family has never been religious but lately they have an some points they be making does make sense but some are like I have my own opinion of it
But what has gotten to me is that manifesting is a sin and that we should believe in God and God only and rn idk what to do because I don't want to sin but I also want to manifest my dream life just how I want to live it. The thing is I'm not educated enough in manifesting/loa/non duality even thought I been in this community for almost a year now, to actually tell them about it.
So now I'm stuck.
Religion is a trap, a bubble designed to keep you ignorant. It was created so that you look elsewhere for God when in truth it was you all along. Why would God make the Earth and then not partake of it? There is no other power but you as awareness. Nothing is outside of your control. Religion is full of fuck ass limiting beliefs to make you feel small and incapable. Society is crafted the way it is so that you never awaken to your true identity. It is full of distractions and unnecessary rules and whatnot.. constantly telling you bullshit like you have to work your whole life and slave away, life isn't fair, I'll believe it when I see it, daydreaming is a waste of time, glorified hustle,, superpowers are fantasy and the likes of such. All of this is fantasy to awareness. It is all imagination, a dream. And when you remember who you are, you consciously control the dream. Awareness is in a human body literally just for the experience, to be entertained by it all. You don't need to be educated because there is nothing to learn, just unlearn. This is your rebirth. Start from scratch. In the very first chapter of Genesis in the Bible, God created heaven and earth of of nothing. The world was void and out of nothing, came everything( this is the void y'all) literally mentioned in the very beginning of the holy book. Look it up for yourself. This is why religion and society have done their best best brainwash by the multitude. If people awoke to their true selves, where would there power and authority go? Surely they can't oppress a self-aware God. Lol and a bunch of teenage girls on tumblr fucking know this out of everyone in the world to exist at any point in time. Honestly, it's not even just about manifesting and stuff. That is what ego desires. You are pure awareness experiencing the human body and mind in a dream world. Nothing really matters, never has. You are always awareness. You were before you took on an ego and incarnated, you are during and will be after the character dies. This is a game and it's supposed to be fun! I'm really glad you asked ME this question because I feel I am perfectly qualified to answer. I come from a deeply spiritual family. Starting with my great-great-great grandmother, black magic was heavily practiced in the family, men and women. Seances and speaking to the dead, letting the dead possess your body and speaking through you type of shit. I've always seen and felt dark entities (was attacked a couple times but not anymore bc I'm above those shits) Anywayyyyss, point being that my family went crazy and it passed from generation to generation. Suicides, Drugs, Mental and physical disease, Severe abuse.. until my grandmother decided enough and looked towards Christianity. Now she is a FANATIC. Absolutely ludicrous! It's so amusing hearing her speak about Jesus and crap because in my head I'm going "if only you knew God was right here." She is also one of the dumbest women I know. She believes you shouldn't ask questions about the afterlife and stuff because that is doubting God. And she thinks Saturday is a holy day and you shouldn't even buy anything on that day because it's a sin. She forbids anyone to listen to music and thinks if a woman was raped she has to marry her rapist because sex is holy and the woman is impure... She became a Christian at 19 and now she is pushing 60 with nothing to show for it. She has nothing! Her faith in " God", who is supposed to be a man that lives in the sky, had gotten her absolutely nothing and it is because she is worshipping a false God instead of herself. I don't care if it sounds narcissistic.. Worship Yourself! The moment you want something, give it to yourself. You are not a pathetic little human with it's pathetic little problems. You are sooo much more than this. You are above everything. You are truly privileged to know the truth out of everyone. Everyone else is suffering and going through their own shit, and would kill to know what we know. Don't let this life on Earth go to waste when you can heaven right now! Feel free to DM me for anything
Xoxo,
Jezebel 💜

So I just played the demo for Metal: Hellsinger and I’m making a post about it because holy fuck dude
Tumblr media
I’m gonna slap down a readmore but TL;DR this game fucks and I like it a lot
So let me just say if you don’t like metal (the music genre) this probably isn’t the game for you. Look at that demon lady, that’s our protagonist and she sets the scene pretty perfectly for what kinda game this is.
(Also she is referred to as The Unknown, and she is indeed every bit as badass as she looks, and believe me I Am Looking) I had a lingering worry that the game was gonna be weird and horny about having a female protagonist but tbh with the possible exception of her character model’s skirt thing, it really doesn’t. The game only seems to care about portraying her as the most badass motherfucker in the universe. A raw, brutal, metal as fuck power fantasy of a character and I am fucking HERE for it
Like damn she feels like a badass even with my incompetent-at-shooters ass playing her lmao
But yeah it’s a high mobility rhythm-based shooter akin to BPM: Bullets Per Minute but Metal As Fuck and without that weird everything-is-one-color-and-we-turned-the-saturation-way-the-fuck-up-for-some-reason thing that turned me away from it. Personally, I’m not really a huge fan of shooters and BPM’s roguelike dungeon generation was, to say the least, not exactly something that made me like the game more However Metal: Hellsinger actually has levels that were designed by actual human beings as opposed to a roguelike dungeon machine, which in my opinion I vastly prefer. Also I don’t remember if you could double jump in BPM, but you can here and The Unknown’s wings actually briefly come into view at the top of the screen, which I think is a really cute detail but also like, it's not so intrusive as to hinder gameplay either Anyway that demo is REALLY fucking fun, like damn even missing like 90% of my shots (Like, the projectile I mean, my note/rhythm accuracy was actually quite good) I still had an absolute blast So far it really seems like a game you feel like you suck shit at and then something clicks and the ADHD Leg Bounce starts working in your favor and that's when the game goes from pretty alright to holy shit
Like, I am not a fan of FPS games normally, but this one knocks it out of the park easily, it’s so much fun. It seems to be pretty boldly copying Doom Eternal’s homework but honestly? That’s not a problem to me lmao, that game fucks and so does this one
Honestly the only problems I have with it are quite few and fairly minor, the first one being that The Unknown’s starting sword feels kinda weak and underpowered, but I mean, guess the genre’s called First Person Shooter and not First Person Slasher  for a reason The second problem is just that its T rating I feel kinda holds it back a fair amount. Like the soundtrack, gameplay, and general vibe leans toward raw violence and the thrill of glorious carnage, but the denizens of Hell all just sort of dissolve into ash when killed, even with the Doom-style Glory Kill system; which like, while you are indeed ripping/tearing/hacking demons apart, it doesn’t really feel as visceral as the general vibe seems to have wanted it
(An earlier draft of this post tried to use the phrases Ashen Baptism and Sanguine Baptism in there but uh, I couldn’t really work them in in a manner that didn’t make things super awkward but I will say they would both make bitchin names for a metal band)
Like, going in I knew it was rated T so there wouldn’t be the Killing Floor 2 levels of carnage I’d want from a game like this, but it’s nowhere near a dealbreaker because as I’ve said before this demo is sick as hell
And a huge part of how hard this demo fucks is in the soundtrack, which has a system where it fucks harder if you’re doing good, which I’m kinda surprised about since it’s got a nicely star-studded cast of vocalists working with it, I’m surprised the game makes you work to hear them but damn does it feel good hearing the vocals kick in when you reach the max level of ass-kicking
This post has gone on for a while now and I feel like I’ve been going for too long so just know there’s more I could get into, like the weapons all having different but rad special abilities or the enemies or just how good and fluid the movement feels or just spent another paragraph being lowkey horny for The Unknown but I’m gonna wrap it up here
All in all, insanely fun, I love it, but also I’m really into metal and demons and other edgy shit so like, mileage may vary if you’re not
If you are, the demo’s free go play it
Personally I’m very excited to hear the full version of the song from the trailer that Serj Tankian did the vocals for whenever the full game drops lmao

shake n bake alabamia (bnha) s2e4-5 let's find out what a fucking cavalry battle is
yeah yeah 80% of the world is superheroes ever since the shiny nation attacked wtf is a cavalry battle I don't wanna google it I want you to tell me -- reel 'em in with the melody (skipskipskip)
"I want you to tell them 'I am here!' mow it in the lawn if you have to!"
deku I think it might take a little more than luck to drag a hunk of metal with you a whole race and then figure out a way to use it to go really fast right at the end. people keep underselling themselves in this.
…these are some weird rules. also holy shit this looks unsafe with the headbands around the neck. are they actually supposed to carry each other? how the hell are they sposed to get the headbands? -- "you'll get a red card for trying to make people fall over" ?????????????????????? I started this episode with one question and I keep getting more. also it's hard enough to get kids with quirks not to try to kill each other, how in fuck do you decide whether an "attack" is meant to get someone to fall?
dude. I know healing powers exist but still, why are they letting you smoke indoors, and right in people's faces no less
"how do you not know your own class's powers???" 'XD vegeta gonna vegeet
flying horse? not sure what other plan there is with uraraka tbh -- well, it's not like this is that different from deku's plan with picking iida -- (I keep trying to remember the gadgeteer girl's name from danganronpa 3 so I can call hatsume that but tbph maybe that's for the best anyway)
"I just need one more person" WHAT ARE THE RULES OF THIS GAME, THE DIAGRAM SHOWED THREE PEOPLE -- dontbeminetadontbeminetadontbemineta -- birdman, yesssssss, this oughta be cool (also it's not mineta thank fuck)
oh fuck, part of me wants to see todoroki win. it helps that iida is on his team (even tho I'm a little disappointed about this "I'm your rival now too" thing)
really, tsu? mineta? : /
that's literally one of the butler bot npc's from the paris map I stg (like granted it's not a complicated design but still)
Tumblr media
"before we get deku, let's kill all these guys (who are literally just playing the hand they were dealt with half a brain)" easy there vegeets, you get red flags that way -- I guess props to class A for figuring out, between them, how to set up a team that lets bakugo do whatever he wants; for sure, no team with him in it is going to last longer than it takes for him to fall off otherwise
"I shift Shoji into attack mode and attack your headbands directly!"
"team midoriya has nowhere left to go!" WHAT. ARE. THE. RULES. TO. THIS. GAME. is this fucking calvinball, or does every high school in japan play this and somehow it's never shown up in any other anime I've heard of, or what?
…we just did this. didn't we just do this last episode? -- oh, cool. hell, I feel like they're trying to set up neito as a dick but I don't see much reason not to like him yet
neito gotta stop pushing them buttons or we're gonna need a backup planet
o_o dang, wasn't expecting iida to even have chips to put in
sigh "the difference between having goals you can plan for and just bloodymindedly grasping for the moon while answering everything but perfection with violence" so disappointingly american
I wasn't really reading too close when they explained how the points work, but it is pretty damn weird that there's a ten million point headband and (judging by the margins on the scoreboard) no others that even go up to ten thousand. damn near rowlingesque; hell, even the snitch could be overtaken (granted, only by somebody willingly throwing the game)
"Tokoyami!" "Kaminari!" "DEKUUUU!" "Bakugo!" Donkey!
"TIME UP!" bakugo faceplants 'XDDDDDD shouldn'ta got sidetracked, vegeet
…wait when did gamzee get here. did neito throw his points to him? was this a relay race pony express shell game thingy??? we still don't know what shinso's mOtHeRfUcKiNg quirk is yet
CONSOLATION POINTS TO GRIFFINPUFF. good show, birdman, good show
hm. interesting convos in next episode, I expect. officially learning some things about todoroki and endeavor. gonna have to be next time, unfortunately; 's late.

What I like, don’t like, and hope to see in Splatoon 3:
Let’s get don’t like out of the way first:
PEOPLE BEING OVERLY-AGGRESSIVE IN TURF! Holy shit people, this is a kid’s game designed to be fairly non-violent! Turf is literally for people who want to ink, not to base camp, splat everyone as much as possible, and chase people literally around the entire map until you splat them! You want to do that, go to Ranked where splatting goes further in aiding the objective, or create a room and do that shit with your friends!
THE DISCONNECTS. Oh my god this game is so buggy right now. It’s had...two patches? And the disconnects keep happening.
Earning money is harder if you don’t want to/can’t do online (a real pain if overly aggressive people are gatekeeping!), Salmon Run gives out less money, Tableturf doesn’t give you anything...
There’s like, three songs during online modes right now. It’s gotten annoying to hear the same ones over and over, sometimes several times in a row. They couldn’t just recycle from Splatoon and Splatoon 2 during matches?
I REALLY don’t like games that force perfectionism. This is why I haven’t completed some of the kettles (break EVERY target in a certain amount of time ones). Let the people who want to 100% do that, but allow some wiggle room for players who don’t! You can argue the wiggle room is just not doing the secret boss kettle but that doesn’t really seem fair tbh
Certain weapons, specials, and the Glowflies and Cohozuna in Salmon Run need to be adjusted. I don’t think I’ve survived a single Glowfly Wave and I was pretty good at it (and Salmon Run in general) in Splatoon 2. The flies move too fast to react to, especially if you’re already in a group of Salmonids trying to get eggs and they move to you (a secondary problem is it seems people don’t know how to get to vantage points and stay in a group in order to take the Salmonids out in a row). I don’t think I’ve ever had a team take down the Cohozuna save for in the lowest level. It feels too overpowered right now.
Splatfests have NOT been balanced at all
I did not enjoy the backstory/lore of this game at all
What I do like:
Play as an Octo from the start, customize Small Fry’s hair, and hair and legwear are no longer genderlocked!
I LOVE getting to decorate the locker!
The catalogue is a nice touch
Splashtags!
SALMON RUN IS OPEN 24 HOURS! (This is helpful if you prefer cooperative to competitive)
New Salmonid Bosses are pretty funny
New Occurrences in Salmon Run are good too
Idols are great
Splatsville is fun to run around in; Inkopolis was...pretty tiny.
Tableturf is an interesting addition. I’m not too big on it but sometimes it’s a good break from everything else.
New as well as retuning clothes
Some of the new ink colors are really pretty! Especially the periwinkle that shows up in Salmon Run sometimes
What I hope to see added:
A big DLC; story mode felt too short. You can skip anything except boss battles as long as you have enough power eggs, so it can be really short if you want it to, but even with minimal or no skipping it feels short.
A mode for people who want to aggressively splat, so Turf War can go back to being for people who want a more chill mode to play in. Or else a mode where there isn’t splatting at all for people who don’t want to play a mode focused on that.
More new and returning music for matches
All the buggy things and unevenness fixed
Better matchups in Turf Wars. Right now it seems to be dependent on how much you ink, and seems to pair people up with “inked more” vs “did not ink as much” which often means “went for splats instead”, making it really unbalanced.
More new weapons and specials
Tableturf really needs more than one battle theme
More Salmonid content. We’ve learned more about them so far, but it’s still mostly through the lens of Salmon Run. It would be nice to have something along the lines of Octo Expansion but with Salmonids.

Please do go on about Doomslayer and his morals. I'm legit fascinated by him since starting the let's play I'm watching and I'd love to hear your take on him (I know literally nothing about the Doom franchise other than lots of blood and violence against demons and also badass music)
You know, a year ago when my friends asked me 'hey do you wanna play minecraft' and i said 'yeah sure' i would have never thought i would one day have a minecraft sideblog where i get questions about the personality of the main character of a shooter fps game (of all things!) that is known for its incredible violence.
But here you go:
(prepare yourself this has gotten way longer than i thought oh god, and also it has nothing to do with hermits whatsoever. warnings for language and descriptions of violence? and i assume the readmore won’t be working the way i want it to)
Ok so, Doom!
First of all, i know nothing about the old games, and i’ve only seen a minimal amount of Doom Eternal Letsplays. Most of this is based on Doom (2016).
Ok so we all start out thinking Doomguy! It’s the guy you play in Doom. The hand that hold the gun YOU are shooting demons with. And sure, you can go trough the whole game with that mindset, but that’s boring and we are overthinking fictional characters in this house.
ID software actually managed to give Doomguy/Doomslayer a TON of personality despite him never saying a word, barely any cutscenes to show what he does when you don’t control him (at least in Doom 2016), and not a lot of other characters to interact with despite enemy monsters.
The game just leaves you little hints and snippets and that’s what makes Doomslayer so exciting to think about. Just the right levels between ‘cryptid half-god who never shows emotion and is a player-insert’ and ‘this dude’s got an AGENDA. he has PLACES TO BE’. You are him as you play, but sometimes he makes decisions on his own. But personally, i could never find myself to disagree.
First, you got the intro sequence.
You got a unknown voice telling you:
“They are rage. Brutal, without mercy. But you. You will be worse. Rip and Tear, until it is done.”
First of all, YO. WOW. HOLY SHIT.
The scene immediately shifts to Doomslayer waking up. He’s naked, he’s chained down somewhere, theresa SHIT TON of scars littering his arms and hands. First thing HE does, on his own behalf, is ripping off the chains by flexing a little (literal iron chains!!!), smashing a zombies head against the sarcophagus he lays in and completely obliterating said head into a bit of blood (mind you, three seconds after he woke up from a thousands of years long coma!! but we only learn that later), and then promptly gets up, picks up a pistol, and now it’s your, the players turn. This takes like 8 seconds in total. This man means BUSINESS. That’s the first thing we learn.
Second thing that strikes me is the interactions with Samuel Hayden.
Doomslayer is patient when a computer voice tells him the status of the base. He is patient as he looks at the screens to see what is going on. (a demonic invasion, thats what). But then dear Dr. Samuel Hayden calls.
Dr. Hayden says “Hi, i’m the boss here, i’m sure we can work together in a way that benefits us both uwu”. Doomslayer immediately grabs the PC screen and pushes it aside. His gesture says, i’m done with this. im sick of this dude. this guy is full of shit. And he’s right! And that after barely hearing two sentences from Hayden!
So the second thing we learn is that he has no time for people trying to exploit him. He hears Hayden, he has a gut feeling that this dude is a little fishy, maybe he just plain doesnt like higher ups and heads of facilities. But we learn that he IS. NOT. going to listen to this man, and his body language makes that very clear without being actually violent against the person (he doesnt destroy the Screen either! just pushes it aside very annoyed. He isn’t mindlessly destroying property here.)
This continues.
Hayden goes ‘hey maybe don’t destroy that energy source!’ in the few seconds you dont control him, Doomslayer listens. He hesitates. He considers. Then he destroys the thing anyways. Hayden keeps telling him to stop, but Doomslayer doesnt listen. He’s got his own mind!
This was mostly about Haydens Company, the UAC, harvesting hell energy, and hurting people in the process.
There’s a scene where Doomslayer rides an elevator. Hayden, over the comms, tells him that everyone that has died in the demon attack was a nacessary sacrifice that will bring a new future or some shit like that. the camera pans down to show some poor sods corpse at those very words. Doomslayer cracks his knuckles. he is NOT HAPPY about that, so we know he doesnt like it when human lifes are sacrificed. He destroys the communicator, so he doesnt have to listen to Haydens voice telling him lies and trying to sway him anymore.
(then he takes out his shotgun, the doors open, metal starts playing and the doom logo is shown, but that’s more about making the player feel epic than showing doomslayers personality,,)
Now i would like to talk about VEGA, the AI that controls the mars facility.
VEGA occasionally talks to us/the Slayer. He is very straightforward, tells us what to do and why to do it, and is generally very polite. In the story, Doomslayer listens to Vega.
Now why does he listen to VEGA but not Hayden?
I think it’s because Hayden tries to get him to do things that just benefit him, and Hayden is very manipulative in his words (or tries to be lol), while Vega just says (if you destroy this thing, that door will open. I think Doomslayer appreciates it when people are honest to him.
And in the end, Doomslayer on his own decides to save a backup of VEGA. VEGA didn’t ask him to, Doomslayer did that on his own. It’s not relevant to his mission, he doesnt need VEGA to go to hell to close portals and whatnot. But he does save him. Why? I think it’s because he cares. Because he’s come to like VEGA. Because Vega didn’t try to manipulate him and screw him over.
Next up is the Slayers Testament.
These are a bunch of writings/recordings that you find scattered in the hell levels. (i highly recommend listening to them/reading them, they are metal as fuck and give me such an immense feeling of power bc they are talking about me, the doomslayer)
These testaments were written by demons. They were genuinely afraid of the slayer.
Quote:
Unbreakable, incorruptible, unyielding, the Doom Slayer sought to end the dominion of the dark realm.
As said, i don’t think these are purely talking about his physical strength. They are talking about his... well, mentality. His Codex. They see him as an unstoppable force. He is incorruptible. Let that sink in. Man walks trough hordes of demons and at no point ever thinks ‘yeah maybe this is a bit much’ or ‘they just keep coming this is pointless’. No. He’s unyielding. (Can you tell how much i love the words in these testaments? It’s just got such a nice ring to it.)
In battle, the Doomslayer is BRUTAL. He tears apart demons, rips their eyes out, all that. He stomps on heads like they’re water balloons and isn’t fazed at all. Nothing stops this man. (except players like me who fall off the map 5 consecutive times, but lets just imagine the doomslayer is actually like he would be if someone played the game perfectly. player skill shouldn’t be considered in my headcanons jahdjhgd) One could even argue he has fun at this, because there are some animations like ripping off a zombies arm and beating the Zombie with it, or feeding a demon it’s own heart.
I feel like that says a lot about his personality as well!
He doesn’t hesitate. He doesn’t doubt himself. He doesn’t question his cause! He fights to get rid of the demons, not just the ones in his way, but every. demon. He will go out of his way to kill more demons. You could either take this as him having fun, or him following his own moral codex to get rid of every demon, or him being a not-quite-human war machine, or wanting to protect humanity from them.
I would say it’s a healthy mix of all that :D
In older games, there was this whole backstory snippet of him returning to earth, finding that the demons had invaded his planet but also killed his pet rabbit (Daisy), and he then goes onto a 2-game long revenge trip.Take that as you will.
The last thing i would like to mention is this post.
Please watch the video. Doomguy walks trough the rows of random human guards. This is the walk of a man who doesn’t owe them SHIT. Yes, he wants to save humanity. Yes, he cares. But he also knows who he is. He knows what he did, and what he will do. He doesn’t have to justify himself in front of these shady scientists and jerky guards.THEY owe HIM, in fact. This video emits the sheer CONFIDENCE of someone who has walked trough hell multiple times and knows none of these people could even touch him. Yes, he would never kill them. He would not harm humans. But he doesn’t care about making them uncomfortable with his presence, either. He doesnt ask for permission.
(i think by now i am using the exact same words they did in that post. really, its worth the read. i think there’s a lot of repeated things between this post and that post by now but i encourage you to watch that video. its worth it.)
Also, the impact he has on the people in this room! they trip. they walk backwards. they go quiet, stutter. they are intimidated. They know he’s technically here to help and save them, but now, standing in front of them.... just wow. it really puts things into perspective. it tells the player that all the demons that he’s killed, all that the doomslayer has done... its noted. it has an impact.
I’m not really sure where i’m going with this anymore, but watching those NPCs react to the slayers presence just adds so much more to his character. it tells us how people see him, and boy.... do they see him.
i think it also ties a lot into how the player is made feel, controlling doomguy. all these head stomping and limp tearing animations, the guns, people being scared, watching doomslayer destroy important equipment from first pirson or pushing open doors or whatever... it just gives me such an immense feeling of power! i can’t even describe it. (...it also has nothing to do anymore with the original question but holy shit did i love playing doom for the sheer atmosphere of it. despite me being horrible at playing.)
(at the end of this i’m realizing that all of this never addressed if doomslayer is happy and content murdering demons, or if he just wants his peace and quiet but can’t help himself every time he sees a demon. i would propose to leave that up to headcanons. mine is a mix of both but in a way that makes it not angsty. like he loves to have his calm moments, but is just as happy to rip some demon’s spine out. probably gets a little itchy and impatient if he hasn’t fought in a while.)
also if you’re interested in game design and way more professional people talking about why doom 2016 is great i reccomend this documentary
...anyways it’s past 1am and this has gotten way out of hand but
tl;dr: the doomslayer is metal as fuck, he has a lot of agenda he is following, and i love him so much
#amber talks#doom#where do i even begin with this?#i wanted to answer this in the morning but that was over an hour ago now#jdakjsdhasdjh i can't help myself theres so much to say about doom!!!!#you asked for this anon#it's just so... *clenches fist*#i forgot of course that the music is pretty much the best thing ever and i've been listening to it SO MUCH while writing litve#everything about this game is designed to make you feel powerful and HOLY SHIT is it working#id software did a great job#i watched a whole documentary on this it was great#...yeah i study 3d stuff this is pretty much in m#my field haha#i've just had all these feelings in me for months and now that someone showed the slightest hint of interest it's all coming out#sorry its so unorganized i tried to at least take one point after the other#now to write another essay on why the slayer and the mandalorian are very alike in some parts but mando is so much softer#(its because slayer has been trough hell and back while mando still has hope in the world)#(i mean mando is a jaded and tough bounty hunter but all that he is doomslayer is cranked up to eleven)#(shush now i said in another essay! go to bed)#(....its not gonna be an essay its gonna be a fanfic and its gonna be great)#(mando is such a softie......)#*pushes my mando/slayer agenda on my side blog as well* ah i see#long post#...very long post#hey i've hit 2k words with this!#....i've written litve chapters that are shorter#EDIT: WAIT FUCK I THINK I MIXED UP THE SECURITY GUARDS LINES WITH A FIC I READ ONCE#or did i gave EX that line in the last ask i answered????#i'm??? im gonna go to sleep lol

@aureateart ok. My favourite parts of twilight princess  (and some other random thoughts about TP sprinkled in there) taken from my monster TP word vomit google doc :
Link lmao
Ok but for real, I like this incarnation of Link :)
I love Ordon (it just seems like such a chill and cozy village)
ALSO love how easy it is to interpret Link as being a sort of older brother figure to the Ordon kiddos. It’s just,, super cute? AND GHHH nice nice good thanks nintendo for giving me characters to care about/characters that I can imagine Link caring about
He didn’t sign up for any of this (tbh, none of the Links really signed up for this jshdjsd). But I mean like, dude was just going to take a trip to castle town, drop a gift off for the royal family, and come back. But haHA oopsies he did get to castle town eventually but definitely not the way he expected hsjdhsd
He’s just a little dude?
AND FUCK. HE REALLY HAD NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE OF ORDON UNTIL ALL OF THAT
everything is new for the player AND Link
Midna
She’s cool :)
she really just
*teleports into your jail cell* hello whore.
I am no master at writing but AYYYY she do got a character arc!!!
She was actually pretty helpful sometimes, I ALWAYS checked in with her before turning to a game guide
Other NPCs
NICE
Love all of the TP character designs (ASHEI’S ARMOUR??? AOWOAOAOOAO)
Saving Zelda and all of Hyrule was important yea but thinking back maybe it was more like, the Ordonians and the kids were what was pushing Link to keep on going
I like the Resistance members :) Very video gamey of them to have one NPC assigned to each dungeon but hey!!! Kinda cool getting to see a little glimpse of each of em
Idk, it’s just fun to imagine Link popping into Telma’s bar after each dungeon and taking a little rest :) (or to celebrate? maybe just chat, idk, give this man some downtime!!)
Honestly it was just kind of nice that Link wasn’t entirely alone. I mean, I know Midna was there the whole time, but I am always for giving Link a big group of friends (see my love for hyrule warriors, age of calamity, and LU LMAO)
Hero’s shade, very very cool, kinda sad he died with regrets but HEY. He got to pass on his knowledge eventually
AND the connection to OoT?? AND assumed to be related by blood too????? GOOD SHIT
Ilia, I REALLY really wanted to like her (er, it’s not like I dislike her, she’s just,,, kinda there for me).
It definitely seems like Nintendo was pushing to make her the romantic interest, but GHHHHH they really threw that out of the window for me by having her lose her memories
I saw a text post a while ago that said it would have been interesting if Ilia was Link’s sister instead and YES!! That would have been cool too :0
Wish we got to know Zelda a little more
I feel like we barely know anything about her
Idk man, like I said earlier, I never really had any sort of drive to save Zelda during my playthroughs
She obviously knows Midna, so maybe if they gave us just a little bit more of that relationship I’d be more interested in her?
TP WORLD BUILDINGGGG
Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP
The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is
Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see
Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots
kinda wish we got to see the Zoras a little more (I guess they are a bit limited since they need water but GHHHH the tp zoras are so prebby,,)
BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon)
but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town
ORDON
Love how chill it is and how it’s kind of separate from Hyrule proper
They really do seem to be doing their own thing apart from the rest of Hyrule
Just kinda adds onto the “he’s just a regular dude minding his own business” kind of vibes I get from TP Link
Also I like Ordona :)
THE LIGHT SPIRITS,,
Love their design
And love how they’re not exactly like a pure white?
Different spirit representing each aspect of the triforce my beloved
But yes hi I think Ordona is very cool
Who are you, how did you get here, which goddess do you represent? Do you even represent one of the three golden goddesses? Do the Ordonians know about you? Have any of them ever SEEN you??? Do they worship you? Does anybody even know about the existence of the light spirits?? FUCK so many questions but ghhh I like how they broke the status quo a bit by throwing in a fourth spirit :)
I feel like this one is kinda weird but I like that voice sample they used in the light spirit music. It’s spooky and pretty at the same time :)
cutscenes mmmmm
Ok ok, the spooky lanayru cutscene is very good
BUT THE “Link, Chosen Hero! Lend us the last of your power!” CUTSCENE MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM LOVE IT SO MUCH
IT just
Idk man
It just hit different
I like the music
And seeing the light spirits swimming around in the light juice water whatever it is
Summoning the light arrows?
AND HHHHH “Lend us the last of your power!” THIS IS IT. This is the final battle.
Seeing Zelda bow down, and then Link putting his hand out 👌👌👌
Link: ok bud, let’s do this together :)
Connection to OoT (did I already mention this? Maybe., Whatever)
Very cool nintendo :)
I love seeing connections between all the diff zelda games.
Because like, on one hand, they’re all separate from each other because of yknow, individual hero stuff. BUT ALSO, they’re all connected because of the reincarnation stuff
Grrrr walking through the sacred grove and going “The Hero of Time walked around here a long time ago” FUCK THATS SO COOL
Is the Hero’s Shade watching me? What does he think of me? DIsappointed? Proud? The Hero of Time went through HELL so this timeline didn’t have to deal with any of the shit Ganon was gonna pull with the triforce, better not fuck this UP Link!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Midlink is cute
Kinda hurts that she smashed the mirror but that was probably so Nintendo didn’t have to worry about people going “but what about the twili??????” for any of the other games LMAO
BUT ALSO LIKE SKJDKLJFJ There are some pretty massive plot holes in TP anyway so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ whatever it’s fine we’ll just use this for angst because GOD do y’all like angst
So is Shadlink
Honestly don’t know where this ship came from but it’s cute so whatever
THE MUSIC??
Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)
Hyrule field theme SLAPS.
Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)
So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)
Midna’s lament is very pretty (and fun to play on the piano)
COURAGE THEME.
I didn’t care for it too much when I started playing the game but hearing it in ZREO’s arrangement of the Hyrule Field theme literally makes me turn into a puddle of emotions. Also hearing it around and of the Ordon kids (I think it plays after Link saves Colin) AAAAAAAAAAAAA
Orchestra piece #1 and #2 HOLY SHIT????????????????
Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.
Wolf link sucks at singing
the first time I heard him howling Zelda’s Lullaby I lost my shit because LKSJLDKSGLKJFSKG god that was.,, Bad. Anyways, hearing him howl some of the songs from OoT was cute :)
TP STAFF ROLL???
VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??
Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.
and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.
hhHHHHhhh it’s just that final reminder that YES!!! YOU JUST PLAYED A ZELDA GAME. JUST ANOTHER STORY APART OF THE WHOLE EPIC OF THE ZELDA SERIES AS A WHOLE
I also want to acknowledge the instrument/samples they used for all the twili stuff.
They’re all just so unique and contrast SO well with the rest of the TP OST. LIKE FUCK!! Anytime I hear the screech from the Twilit Kargarok? Sends a shiver down my spine. I associate those sounds SO strongly with the twili realm. (Like, the same way you associate the BSHEWW VVWWMMM sounds with light sabers)
I love it so god damn much
literally any time there’s a certain sound or motif associated with something I lose my shit
Sacred grove sacred grove sacred gro-
lovely lovely lovely so much fun playing that on the piano. AND again, I did the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme when I heard the theme from the lost woods come in GHHHHHHHH
shoutout to TP Faron Woods for helping me study and get through all of my schoolwork
BLEGUUHHH can you tell that I really love music?
and also yea I guess TP is kinda cool too :\
IF YOU READ ALL OF THAT THANKS I GUESS

AHHH I'm glad you liked it!! (And "winx club anon" that's so cute please 🥺)
Okay so, Red Fountain is so much fun!! It definitely depends on personal taste but I love martial arts and physically fighting so I loved Red. It's actually a lot stricter than people assume! Red has manners and diplomacy classes just like Alfea and they're actually more in depth to account for war diplomacy. The teachers are very strict (literally all of them) but that's just for our safety so it's not too bad. They have this room for flight training that's full of flight simulators which was sooo much fun (of course we had competitions for that). We also did monthly games! They had so many classes and training that were designed to help team bonding so we played things like capture the flag all the time (that one was intense holy shit make sure you wear the padding they give you for the game - the amount of times i got fucking BODIED For No Reason???)
Overall, training is really fun! There's a lot of technical stuff in your first three years (first year is the worst) but after that most of it is practical application. We have to take mandatory medical training for three years and then at least one boot camp a year to make sure you remember everything (and if you mess up at all, you have to take another class).
There are like... two-three phases(?) for teams! For your first three years, you can switch teams to find one that really matches you. They assign teams based on specialties and skills to ensure that everyone is well matched but sometimes people just don't get along (*cough* Riven). For the first couple of months, they won't let you switch so you can at least get to know them but after that, if you offer substantial evidence for why you should join another team they let you! BUT. After three years, you're no longer able to join another team unless there's a serious problem (like arguing getting in the way during missions). And during your fifth year, your team gets registered as an official team under the Specialist Registry (which is basically just a list of all the teams). Our fifth year was in season 4 so we got officially registered and going to Earth was our first mission as a registered team!!
As for the guys! Like I said before, they're all attractive 😌 Sky has this really insane duality actually. When he's all dressed up as a prince, he has this prince charming kind of vibe but he hates being dressed up so in our free time he dresses super comfortably and has more of a "boy next door/tiktok golden retriever boy" kinda vibe! Brandon is so hot, literally everything about him is super masculine and he has this "90s heartthrob" look. Timmy is super cute! But he had this major growth spurt in year four (so like season three ish) and he ended up looking very handsome. Riven of course is hot too. Definitely has that "bad boy" image but also sometimes he just looks like a punk. Helia is very beautiful! He has a masc-leaning androgynous look (we agreed that Brandon was the most handsome and Helia was the prettiest). Nabu was also really handsome! He has this like... soft dom (😳) handsome feel (another prince charming kind of guy).
The Trix are also really beautiful! But also really scary... I was actually surprised at how scary they were. At first, they seemed like regular school bullies but as they get older they seem crazier and crazier. Icy especially gets this crazed look in her eyes when she gets mad, especially when she's fighting Bloom. Like... they really aren't the kind of villains you want to mess with (despite us regularly kicking their asses, they always get back up, and most if not all of us have had nightmares about them).
Valtor was a lot scarier in person. The Winx had nightmares of him for years and Flora even had to go to sleep therapy for it. In the cartoon, he just looks like a gay goth aljhgdaljdg but in person, he's super charismatic and egotistic. He truly believed that he would take over the universe and kill anyone he wanted. That kind of confidence from that kind of person can be really terrifying. He literally acted like a bad guy from a horror movie. Just... ew.
Powers! It was actually easy for me to control my magic because I scripted that but, I can tell you that you do have to control it to a point. I hated Fate so there really wasn't a lot of inspo from there but the whole emotions affect your magic thing was spot on. It wasn't as serious as Fate but your emotions do affect your magic! Bloom is a really good example I feel? But anyway, fairy magic is based on positivity which can be really dangerous if you know... you don't feel happy or don't have any hope. Witch magic is based more on which emotion you feel the strongest! There's a big misconception that it's only negative emotions but really they just use whichever emotion they feel the strongest at that moment. So they can still use magic if they're sad or angry (it just might backfire or get out of their control).
Cloud Tower actually isn't scary to me? There were students who did get scared but I think that was mostly just from being near witches and dark magic. But honestly, I thought the school itself was really beautiful! It has this dark academia meets dark witch look so like... lots of candles and books and just super cute all around. ALSO the witches at Cloud consistently threw the best parties.
Using magic feels really natural! It's kind of just like... you think of what you want it to, sometimes say a spell to help direct it, then it happens. It can backfire or do something else but that usually means you have an issue with not believing in your magic!
Transforming was fun! On the outside, it happens in less than a second. There's a flash of light and then you're transformed! But when you actually transform, it feels a lot longer and you do see the actual transformation. You don't have to move or dance but it can help to boost your spirits!
And no they didn't look like that 😭 I scripted that they would look just like we do! Although! I will say their eyes are a lot.. brighter? Shinier? Not bigger but their eyes seem magical too in a weird way?
This got way longer than I thought sorry about that 😭
