Termina
A redux of one of my sprites in Shadowrun! It's name is Termina, and when it isn't actively hacking something, it's learning new ways to organize files that make life demonstrably more confusing for everything except it.

re the shit happening in palestine
nobody knows what will happen i guess, but like. what's most likely? my doomscrolling brain can produce possibilities from 'genocide to rival the worst of the 20th century' through 'syria-style proxy war' all the way up to 'first act of wwiii', and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop of the start of the ground invasion that would presumably make the sickening carnage of the last couple weeks look like nothing. meanwhile the countries around Israel are flinging a handful of rockets at US and Israeli military bases.
so like Israel's got to know that if it sends its whole army into Gaza, then Hezbollah etc. will attack and things will get much worse for them, so at some point they have to back down right? they're already having to play desperate PR damage control after they blew up that hospital, and even the U.S. is starting to say out of the corner of its mouth 'hey that's a bit much there buddy, go easy on the civilian slaughter'. on the other hand Israel seems to be pushing even fashier to enforce a pro-war sentiment internally - locking up any Arab citizen who says something anti-war, banning news orgs like Al Jazeera who don't toe the line, etc. like is it just going to fall back to the status quo plus several thousand bodies, or are we too far from that equilibrium at this point?
and as for Hamas and its allies - obviously they would have known that if they carried out a massive, bloody attack on Israel, the Israelis would go completely berserk and launch an even larger reprisal on the population of Gaza. ergo, they had to have believed that whatever they would achieve through such an attack might be 'worth that price', and have some sense of how things might go next - and they're still fighting, shooting rockets etc., but what's their current objective, just to survive as an organisation until other countries get pulled in against Israel?
really what i want to have some reason to believe is that there might be any remotely plausible way this can still work out to a 'better' state of affairs (no ethnic cleansing, no megadeaths - but also no more ghettoes, and somehow, end-of-apartheid-style negotiations to abolish the current Israeli state so that Palestinians can return home with equal legal rights etc.).
i see people talking like here is how the Palestinians will still win, that this is the first act in the overthrowing of Israel, even defining various neighbouring Islamic states as 'the resistance', because you need a team to cheer for I guess, enemy-of-my-enemy logic. but what seems more likely to come from that kind of escalation would just be a massive war which, if recent wars are anything to go by, will kill a lot of people and push every state/group involved to greater levels of internal repression, but eventually peter out without any sort of clear outcome. so... is Israel somehow much more fragile than it used to be? is there reason to think the US would cut it off?
anyway. for some historical comparisons - the Haitian Revolution took a little over 12 years (1791-1804) between the initial slave revolt and establishing an independent country (which promptly got squashed with debt and trade sanctions by the bitter European powers). in South Africa, the ANC turned to insurgency in the wake of the Sharpeville Massacre of 1960, and about 31 years later negotiations began for the end of apartheid (during the collapse of the USSR, which shifted the priorities of the US etc. who had been backing the apartheid gov). the Algerian War of Independence lasted about seven years (1954-1962). if this anti-colonial war is going to follow a similar trajectory... well, it depends when you start counting I guess, but probably it would take a decade or more to approach any sort of 'resolution' you could name.
the status quo obviously couldn't last indefinitely, you can't just keep a population in a massive prison and gradually bleed them out and not expect them to fight back, but in terms of ways this could fall down, there are some obviously very bad outcomes (nakba 2, surviving palestinians in Gaza exiled to e.g. egypt) that could establish a new equilibrium (apartheid state annexes the whole region after sufficiently depopulating it to establish a majority). that's not implausible, it's basically what happened in the U.S.A., Canada and Australia - the settler population now outnumbers the indigenous ones by orders of magnitude, and maintains a complicated legal regime to control the surviving population (reservations etc.). that's presumbly the outcome the present state of Israel 'wants' to achieve, gradually enough that it doesn't look too bad on TV. however, it's not there yet - in the combined territory of Israel and Palestine, there's presently roughly equal numbers of people defined by the census to be Jewish vs Palestinian.
conversely... the state of Israel's constantly broadcast fears about a combined 'one state solution' resulting in the Jewish population being treated the way the Israeli state currently treats the Palestinians (ethnic cleansing, massacres etc.), and the great-replacement birthrate bullshit, are surely completely overblown (notably the much smaller white population in South Africa was not banished at the end of apartheid), but what happens rather depends exactly how the state of Israel might collapse and who would hold power afterwards. and... in South Africa, the apartheid government in the last few apartheid years started to realise it had lost the game, and was making some paltry concessions - which the Israeli gov. is not doing at all, seeming to prefer to rush headlong into an 'us or them' war of annihilation, confident the U.S. will let it do whatever reckless shit it wants?
all in all it's a horrifying mess and I find it hard to feel any sort of hope that it won't just get worse in one of a dozen different ways. would love to be convinced otherwise. i always assume things will go in the bleakest way possible, which is not a very reliable mindset.

I'm Helena (or Hela, for short), but you can call me Storm or Lightning. I love cats 😻, and I have 2 beautiful kitties named Pyhäjoki and Tuulikki 😸😺. I'm an electrical engineer ⚡ and currently work in a power electronics company as a design engineer. I'm also trying to complete a Master's degree 🎓, but it doesn't go as planned 😝. I like many different kinds of music, from metal to dark electro, from indie pop to folk. At the moment my fav band is Arkona, but it may change in like a month. I also watch anime, when I have time for this (and now I don't). My fav anime is Ergo Proxy. I also love plants 🪴, tea 🫖 and thunderstorms ⛈️.

I’m around 3/4ths done SIGNALIS and I gotta say. I’m def gonna replay this. If you like survival horror, silent hill, resident evil, alien, or ergo proxy this game is 10000% for you. It has such a charming style, incredible world building, fucking phenomenal atmosphere and design, and a literal “crt” option to make your screen look like a crt monitor (which I love so so much) All in all, if youre a fan of cyberpunk, dystopia/post apocalypse, psych horror, or android/ai stories with a whole lotta soul that will stick with you even after you’ve put the game down, this is a must-play.

God, I wish Ergo Proxy had been more interesting and compelling for me. I wish I hadn’t felt the need to drop it at 10 episodes…. because the animation can be so good, the character designs are quite interesting, and Re-l Mayer is a really cool character.
But I just couldn’t fucking get invested in Vincent’s arc at all. It was incredibly uninteresting to me. Plus, that damn visual style — while the animation itself was cool, the colours and compositing and backgrounds just made it all so fucking oppressively dreary. And maybe that’s the point of it, but I could not get past how completely and utterly bleak it all was.

6, 21, 25 and 29 all or anyone of these that you choose
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
I don't think anything comes to mind. The inspirations and influences I work with I pull from extremely consciously and intentionally. What happens more often is I get told my work can be associated with This or That even though I have absolutely no knowledge of This or That existing prior to being told that.
I think closest this happens is when I pass art by @moonsheen and she references something she knows I've consumed but I wasn't actively thinking of, and I end up going "huh, yeah, that works, I'm-a lean into that now." But that's pretty much part of our collaborative process. .
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
It might be easier to ask me which styles I don't appreciate, it's a much shorter list. But, in general I really love the various styles associated with the shoujo manga/anime genre even though I would never enjoy drawing in that way. .
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
This does happen but I'll be real in saying I don't remember any of the comparisons. I don't typically remember things that are irrelevant to me. .
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
Off the top of my head: Ergo Proxy, Vinland Saga, Monster… I guess either goth horror or realistic-ish styles or both. I'd also say anything with egregious gore or body horror, which I guess falls under 'goth horror'. I do love a lot of dark or mature media and really adore the horror genre, but the aesthetic of it isn't something that I'm incentivized to make use of and I don't really go looking for opportunities to.

Corpus gay melodrama timeline: part four, calm after the storm
part one part three
Time: sometime after the awakening of the Tenno, covers events up to the Glast Gambit
The Perrin Seqence and Ergo Glast proved themselves to be a powerhouse, able to attract many a Corpus who had fallen on hard times or wanted to change their way of life.
With the awakening of the Tenno, the Corpus now had a new problem to deal with - the newly reborn warrior caste. First contact with the Lotus was complicated, as the Board had differing opinions on how to deal with the Tenno and their Mother.
Initially, the Tenno proved a neutral force, willing to cooperate with Corpus in the Gradivus Dilemma. Frohd Bek was forging plans to offer the Lotus a contract to ensure prolonged cooperation.
This endeavor was cut short by the announcement of the Zanuka project. Alad V's capture and experimentation on Valkyr soured Corpus-Tenno relations for centuries to come.
Ergo Glast saw opportunity in these difficult times. He approached the Lotus with an offer of cooperation, promising to prove his loyalty to ethical commerce and mutual collaboration. The Perrin Sequence was one of the first syndicates to establish a truce with the Tenno. The Lotus' first task of loyalty was for Perrin operatives to rescue a group of Old Earth cultists from a Grineer encampment, with a group of Tenno chaperones overseeing the mission to its completion.
This group of cultists were the founders of the Church of New Loka. They became allies to the Perrin Sequence and the two syndicates are still working together. Ergo Glast continued to grow his influence, expanding beyond Corpus-controlled territory by establishing contact with independent colonies and even some Grineer colonies.
While the Perrin Sequence was thriving, the Corpus Board found itself on shaky foundations. Frohd Bek ordered Alad's exile over the failure of the Zanuka project. This meant that a replacement for the former Board member was necessary.
With 13 out of 13 votes, the 14th member of the Board was elected -Nef Anyo. Nef offered his immense wealth and new technological advancements to the Board - the Bursas and the Razorbacks proved to be powerful enemies against Tenno. Frohd Bek had fully changed his perspective to antagonism towards Tenno, thus Nef's battle-proxies were appropriate distractions as the board continued to scheme.
Eventually, the Tenno learned to overpower both Bursas and Razorbacks and Nef needed a new line of attack. He set his eyes upon a colony far away on Eris. The Myconians.
...
Ergo received an anonymous letter, warning him that Nef Anyo planned an assault on a faraway colony. The letter ended with an apology and was signed by an "old friend", the style of writing seemed familiar and Ergo trusted that it was genuine.
He sent a group of Tenno and Perrin Sequence operatives to Eris and found out that Nef indeed had visited the colony and kidnapped its children. The Myconians pleaded for help and Ergo could not decline, for they had shielded him in his early days of defection.
So, for the first time in 300 years, Ergo Glast got in direct contact with Nef Anyo.
The rest is well known history - a bribe was offered in exchange for the children, but Nef wanted none of it. He wanted Ergo to send his best Tenno to battle it out on the Index, and so he did. After several matches and intrigues, the Tenno and Perrin Sequence came out triumphant and the Myconian children were returned to their families. Neewa made the choice to become the last triuna and gifted their warden, Nidus, to the brave Tenno who saved them from Nef.
However, Nef would not back down and neither would Ergo. The silence had been broken and the two men still had undone business left to settle. Thus started a bitter business rivalry between Anyocorp and the Perrin Sequence.

Media Interaction 2022
Part 8: August
Land of the Lustrous - This is probably the most gorgeous-looking anime I have ever seen as well as the most incredible use of CGI in an anime. I loved every moment of Land of the Lustrous and it's a shame the first season goes by so quick in just 12 episodes I wish I could get more.
I will probably continue with Land of the Lustrous by reading the manga at some point in the meantime but its adaptation is just too stunning to anticipate its second season. Anthropomorphism is probably one of my favorite themes in anything but I appreciate it when it's done faithfully to whatever non-human entity the concept is based on. I like that each gem in Land of the Lustrious has its own unique personality and quirks based on its real-life gemstone. I also like the incorporation of the Mohs scale of mineral hardness and how it's essentially used to determine each gem's efficiency in battle. It makes me so elated when this attention to detail is put into designs based on objects or animals and is never just [human version of object]. Besides the excellent world-building and character development, I'm very fond of each gem being basically genderless and sharing very homosexual relationships with each other. The relationship Phosphophyllite developed with Cinnabar is very special to me and I never expected to be so emotionally torn up even by the first episode of watching their interactions with each other. In fact, I have never watched anything that tore me up by the end of just the first episode, excellent anime.
Ergo Proxy - I don't think any other anime will ever be able to top using a Radiohead song as part of its official soundtrack. Besides a stunning ending theme featuring fucking Paranoid Android by Radiohead I think Ergo Proxy also has one of my top favorite Opening Themes in anime. I'm learning that I seem to greatly enjoy media that are both post-apocalyptic as well as sci-fi and Ergo Proxy does everything with these themes that I love. I find the setting of this anime very pleasing to me in how I envision a future where most of humanity is wiped out and society is forced to live an artificial livelihood inside of bubble domes. There are a lot of things this anime has that are very satisfactory to me which are its art style, color pallet, soundtrack, and ambiance. I strongly admire the female lead in Ergo Proxy and feel that Re-l Mayer is written like a real woman with genuine struggles and emotions. I can say the same for Vincent Law and that he is a male lead that isn't overly masculine and has emotions that he isn't afraid to express. Ergo Proxy is one of the few psychological anime that I appreciate because I feel that my brain is just big enough to understand the larger picture. I'm not all that fond of psychological themes in media but Ergo Proxy gives you just enough to work with by the end of each episode for you to further unravel the mystery and I anticipated each episode after the next at least for the first 12 episodes. After the first half of Ergo Proxy, I did feel it tends to drag along and have some very unusual filler episodes. I'm not sure if I could even call them filler because no matter how "off" they felt from the main story they still had a purpose in explaining what was happening. I would like to add that Ergo Proxy is also another one of the top animes I've watched that has an excellent English dub.
SMT IV: prayers (manga) - This is a 2-volume mini-series set in an alternative setting following the character Jonathan. SMT IV Prayers is ok at best but it being just ok is what dissatisfies me. Of the two characters Jonathan and Walter, Jonathan is my favorite and it's disappointing to see his story fall so flat in comparison to the other mini-series following Walter. The art style isn't the worst but it's not the greatest either the only good-looking character is Jonathan but besides that all the other character designs make me wanna take a nap. I don't have very much to say about Jonathan's mini-series and I think the newly added character introduced in his story is just a very two-dimensional edge lord that wants revenge on demons.
SMT IV: demonic gene (manga) - This is the other mini-series following Walter in an alternative setting. I liked this mini-series a lot better than the story following Jonathan even though Jonathan is my favorite. I think the art style is very good and I liked seeing all the characters in SMT IV be adapted in the author's style. The story is a little more interesting and I like the new character introduced in Walters's alternative setting vs the character introduced in Jonathan's alternative setting.
Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction - This was my first time reading anything by Asano Inio and I have been made very well aware his works are pure depression and misery despite having absolutely gorgeous imagery and lovely character designs. I was always drawn to this manga over his other work, Goodnight Punpun which I have seen is wildly popular but I was just in love with all the character designs I had seen when first introduced to Dead Dead Demon. This manga was very political and I didn't expect that but that's what made me enjoy it. I think Dead Dead Demon has a very brutal and realistic depiction of how the world would actually react if aliens came to Earth. When aliens invaded Tokyo it was nothing like a Hollywood blockbuster movie. It was an intense heated political climate. You have one side of the political spectrum that believes aliens are "invading our country" and we should kill them vs the other side of the political spectrum that believes that we should make contact with Aliens and coexist with them. There is a pretty big underlying theme of xenophobia depicted in Dead Dead Demon but it is very unfortunate that this theme is literally thrown away after chapter 80 in fact anything after chapter 80 is thrown away. I was very disappointed by the ending, to say the least. I loved the bond that Kadode and Ontan had with each other and I think things really kick into high gear when you learn the meaning of Ontans existence in Kadodes relationship. I think they should have been girlfriends that being said I would have rather it ended with everyone dying in the explosion and Ontan and Kadode spending their final moments with each other after they kissed. I was truly prepared for a miserable ending after being made aware of the author's previous works and I would have accepted that kind of ending over the one we get. I really don't care if the ending fixes everything and makes it a happy ending it literally feels like Dead Dead Demon got axed at the last moment. While reading this I heard there is an anime adaptation coming out at some point and I am rather excited but I do fear this will be an anime that will have terrible reception if it hits western audiences for many reasons despite that, I give Dead Dead Demon a solid 10.

The fact that Homunculus will never have its own anime adaptation is something really upsetting...
Yes, it's cracked, it's really WEIRD thing, like 18+ R++ idk what else, but this manga just MADE my days on January. I was so damn vibing that shit, kinda obsessed with it
Just imagine it's -15 outside, dark, snowing you don't see a fuck, the day at school was shitty, BUT THEN YOU RETURN HOME AND DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT TOMORROW AND JUST GO READ HOMUNCULUS IN ENGLISH fuck BECAUSE THE TRANSLATORS HAD DONE ONLY A HALF OF MANGA :(
But you're good, even so.
The end of Homunculus made me feel... disgusted, empty, worn out, and completely confused...
Fucking Susume Nakoshi, what did you do to yourself....
Actually Jan was a very cool month, I also read Chainsaw Man and my bday on January 8th, and then such a strange but very emotional experience with Homunculus Manga
(Also I watched a nEtFLix aDapTation. Fuck that, never watch this movie pls, cause the character's arcs are switched places with each other, chronology died, the all idea and concept too and the most normal character of story is a fcking villain now... why do they even wanted to make an adaptation but also decrease the degree of insanity and made this shit slightly closer to PG 13?.... 👏 Vomiting 👏)
Even a Netflix's Death Note is a watchable movie comparing this to Homunculus...
So yeah manga – masterpiece, adaptation – somewhat semi rotting
I kinda feel that if Homunculus had gotten its aadaltation, it would've been something as sick and gloomy as Lain's experiments, probably in the same style as Ergo Proxy or Tecnolyze, sounds cool to mey...
Ehh((
