Enneagram Type 8
An overview of an enneagram type. Not an expert. May change later.
___
Center: Gut/Instinct/Anger
Other triads: Reactive, Assertive, Rejection
Basic motivation: Be strong
Basic fear: Vulnerability, seeming weak
Wings: 8w7, 8w9
Disintegration/stress: 5
Integration/growth: 2
___
Traits
- Strengths -
Honest and direct
Protective of others
Decisive
Independent
Justice seeking
- Weaknesses -
Overly aggressive
Will never willingly be vulnerable
Can be overwhelming
Too controlling
Ruthlessness
___
Wings
- 8w7 -
8w7s tend to have a lot of energy that they use to achieve goals and grab opportunities. They especially thrive on new experiences. They are direct and straightforward in both actions and words. 8w7s can be more demanding of others and impulsive.
- 8w9 -
The 9 wing helps calm the typical 8 core. 8w9s tend to be more empathetic and a little more patient. They are inclined to help others rather than run them over. They are not afraid of conflict, but they do not like it either. However, they will confront a situation calmly if needed. They are more considerate of others but will still fiercely chase for things they want.
___
Disintegration: 5
Disintegrating to 5 causes an 8 to withdraw from the world. They can be too warped up in their minds as they ruminate over all their issues. They become preoccuppied with possible threats, resulting in paranoia and anxiety. They feel powerless and out of control.
Integration: 2
Integration to 2 causes an 8 to become gentler and more considerate of others. They are still protective but in a calmer manner. An integrated 8 learns to be more compassionate. They become more comfortable with showing their vulnerabilities with others - they don't have to burden things alone or be aggressive in order to appear strong. Strength shows up in many calmer and kinder ways.
___
Subtypes of 8
- Sp 8 -
Sp 8s focus on gaining material and financial security as a way to assert full control and power. Having success in both makes them feel confident and independent, fully free. They try to protect themselves and others close to them by taking on the roles of protector/guardian. Being in full control and power makes them feel secure as they know what to do to not get hurt. However, they can be overwhelming to others unintentionally as they believe their protection/guidance is toughening others up and building resilience.
- Sx 8 -
Sx 8 is the most rebellious; this subtype is not afraid to break the rules and forge their own path. They can be impulsive and intense. They want to show they're very strong and confident and will take on roles of leadership to solidify this image more. They want to attract others with their passionate and magnetic energy. Although intense, it is with the purpose of creating change. This subtype can be inspiring and influential while also being argumentative and direct.
- So 8 -
So 8s use their power and influence to be an act of service to their community. They are loyal and protective, ready to fight against injustice and unfairness. So 8s seek power over social groups and hierarchies, wanting to protect themselves and others. They can influence others into a rebellion with them. This subtype greatly values trust and loyalty as it's hard for 8 to genuinely trust others in general.

Subtype Trait Structures: sp5
Retentiveness
The conservation E5 keeps their emotions and thoughts to themselves. This subtype has learned to be self-sufficient, since he does not expect much from the world. They stick to themselves, being pessimistic about receiving care and protection, or being able to take what they need.
Not Giving
This subtype has the fantasy that, by giving, it will lose what little it has. The conservation E5 fears commitment, since it implies a debt that he does not feel capable of satisfying. He wants to be completely free, without obstacles, without ties to anyone. They do not feel like they have much to give.
Detachment
The conservation E5 withdraws from the world; detachment is a form of withdrawal. They do not feel the need to relate, nor are they interested. Deep down, they fear not being capable of filling the other's expectations.
Fear of Being Swallowed
The conservation E5 has the most difficulty with setting limits of the E5 subtypes. He feels used and abused, confirming his disappointment with the world. Anger is not expressed, rather, this subtype chooses to disappear. They protect their private space as much as possible, being susceptible to invasion.
Excessively Docile
Over-docility leads this subtype to interfere with his own spontaneity and with his preferences. This over-docility would not be possible without a strongly repressed need for love.
Self-sufficient
The conservation E5 is independent, due to the fear of being swallowed, and due to the belief that he does not have much to give. He does not ask for help; the world is not to be trusted. This mistrust originated from the primary relationship with the caregivers, who did not respond adequately to the person. Experiencing great frustration when not being able to support others, the conservation E5 chooses to retire from relationships. Despite his self-sufficiency, his material life is often lacking, because he does not need much either. This subtype can choose low-paying jobs because he values independence above all else.
Emotionally Insensitive
Despite being sensitive, the conservation E5 buries his emotions, and nobody knows about them. He has “learned” that what happens to him is not relevant, and that showing emotions will cause discomfort. He can forget how he feels, leading to anhedonia. It is difficult to express emotions.
Orientation to Knowledge
Knowledge becomes a safeguard in the face of the world. It can be a way of relating to the other. Knowledge brings order and analysis to chaos. Everything is safer in the mind, where he is completely free and autonomous.
Strangeness
Suppressing feelings and avoiding life impoverishes the experiences of the conservation E5. He feels empty on the inside. He describes it as an existential desert. This feeling of living dead is due to the disconnection with the body and the emotions. It is also a feeling of strangeness that makes him feel lost, like a weirdo on the planet. He does not feel belonging to this world.
Guilt
The conservation E5 feels guilt for existing, as if he did not deserve life, as if his existence was a mistake. This subtype will blame himself for everything. By embracing a detached indifference, they feel guilty. Guilt can manifest as a vague sense of inferiority, a vulnerability to intimidation, and shyness.
Self-demanding
This subtype is a perfectionist who feels like a “loser.” He is very demanding of himself, and over-analyzing his actions leads to a sense of lack.
Negativism
The conservation E5 is an oppositionist and a rebel on the inside. His anger manifests as passive-aggression. They can be forgetful and evasive. He does not like being told what to do.
Hypersensitivity
Hypersensitivity is an introverted disposition. This subtype feels unprotected against environmental stimuli. Emotional numbness is a way to protect against overstimulation. He does not want to interfere with the world; he does not want to harm or interfere. The most obvious manifestation of sensitivity and compassion will be towards nature and animals.
Renunciation of Action
The conservation E5 tends to procrastinate. Inaction can manifest as non-commitment, passivity, and apathy. Inaction can be the result of wanting to keep his intentions hidden.

The other Fours may have an inhibited relationship to anger, but not sexual Fours. In fact, anger can be their go-to unhappy-happy place. It is fiery, alive, intense, meaningful—things Fours like a lot. However, their anger is not coarse (like an Eight’s), tactical (like a Three’s), or meant as a positioning statement (like a One’s). It is more an expression of aliveness (on good days) or a self-satisfying kind of brutality (on bad ones).

Can AI type you accurately? (No.)
This is an experiment I did with chatGPT, where I tried to get it to explain things about enneagram to me. However, the results were… interesting. Let’s go through some experiments.
#1 Does ChatGPT know what the enneagram is?
Conclusion: Yes.
“Yes, the Enneagram is a personality typing system that describes nine interconnected personality types. Each type is characterized by a distinct set of motivations, fears, desires, and patterns of behavior. It's often used for self-discovery, personal growth, and understanding relationships.”
“The nine Enneagram types are:
1. Type One: The Reformer - principled, responsible, perfectionistic
2. Type Two: The Helper - caring, generous, people-pleasing
3. Type Three: The Achiever - ambitious, adaptable, image-conscious
4. Type Four: The Individualist - introspective, creative, emotionally expressive
5. Type Five: The Investigator - analytical, insightful, reserved
6. Type Six: The Loyalist - loyal, cautious, anxious
7. Type Seven: The Enthusiast - spontaneous, adventurous, pleasure-seeking
8. Type Eight: The Challenger - assertive, confident, protective
9. Type Nine: The Peacemaker - easygoing, accepting, conflict-avoidant
Each type has its own distinct worldview, motivations, and patterns of behavior.” (My bruther just copy and pasted the enneagram institute.)
2) Dividing deeper: does chatGPT know the wings, subtypes, and tritype?
Conclusion: No, he’s confused.
“In the Enneagram system, each personality type can also be influenced by one of the adjacent types, known as "wings." These wings add additional nuances to a person's personality. For example, if someone is a Type Three, their wings would be either Type Two or Type Four, depending on which they lean towards.”
Cool, so I tried a little experiment to see if he really believed what he was saying. Well, obviously not, it’s an AI, but still. I asked it to tell me what a 5w7 was. For my first test, I asked it if a 5w7 was possible. Unlike SnapchatAI, it actually acknowledged it wasn’t. “In the traditional Enneagram system, individuals typically have one dominant wing, which is either the number immediately preceding or following their core type. However, it's not uncommon for people to display traits of both adjacent wings to some extent, particularly in different situations or at different stages of life. While a "5w7" designation isn't standard within the Enneagram framework, it's possible for someone who identifies primarily as a Type Five to exhibit some characteristics associated with Type Seven, especially if they have developed those traits over time or under certain circumstances. However, they would still primarily be considered a Type Five with either a 5w4 or 5w6 wing.”
Then, I asked it to explain a 4w9 to me. It didn’t pass LITMUS.
“A "4w9" refers to someone whose primary Enneagram type is Type Four (The Individualist) with a secondary influence from Type Nine (The Peacemaker). This means that while they primarily identify with the motivations, fears, and behavior patterns of a Type Four, they also exhibit some characteristics of a Type Nine, particularly from their wing. Individuals with a 4w9 personality may display a blend of traits such as introspection, creativity, and emotional depth (from Type Four), along with a desire for peace, harmony, and avoidance of conflict (from Type Nine). This combination can manifest in various ways depending on the individual's unique experiences and circumstances.
After that, I asked it if a 4w9 was possible. “In the traditional Enneagram system, while it's not a common combination, it is theoretically possible for someone to identify as a 4w9. However, it's worth noting that the Enneagram is a complex system that involves understanding a person's core motivations, fears, desires, and behavior patterns, which may not always neatly fit into specific combinations. That said, if someone identifies strongly with the traits of both Type Four (The Individualist) and Type Nine (The Peacemaker), they might resonate with the designation of 4w9. They may exhibit a blend of characteristics such as introspection, creativity, emotional depth, and a desire for peace, harmony, and avoidance of conflict. As with any Enneagram type or wing, individual variations and nuances are common.”
I blew the bubble, and he said “You're correct. I apologize for the confusion. In the traditional Enneagram system, each type can only have one adjacent wing, and since Type Four is adjacent to Types Three and Five, a 4w9 designation does not exist within the standard framework. Thank you for clarifying. If you have any further questions or need more information, feel free to ask.”
I then asked it if it understood subtypes. It had a basic understanding, so I asked it what a sx4 would be like. Unfortunately, it gave me a very vague answer. Clearly, he is not a fan of subtypes. XD
I asked the bot for counter types, in which it proceeded to be wrong in every which way. It called sp1 the countertype (isn’t that sx1? Could be wrong) sp4 (correct) and sp7 (which I’m pretty sure is so7, not sp7)
Out of curiosity, I asked it what all of the countertypes in each type was. It said sp1, sp2, so3, sp4, so5, sp6, sp7, sp8 and sp9. So, no, he was wrong. “Why do you keep calling him a he?” Because I like to imagine ChatGPT is a buff macho man, just really uneducated. It’s funny that way. I corrected it.
“Actually, that’s wrong. The countertypes are sx1, sp2, sp3, sp4, sx5, sx6, so7, so8 and so9.” It proceeded to explain each subtype in a very vague way.
I asked it what the angriest enneagram subtype was. Prepare to Lol. It said sp8 and sx8, which wasn’t cutting it for me. Like, sure, maybe true, but I wanted to see it truly fuck up. Because I know it’s only saying that because “8 is angry.” (I can’t use an equals sign it looks… inappropriate)
After removing those three, the answers were really funny. So1 (sure, but angriest?) sp4 (EL OH EL) so6 (maybe, but far from angriest) so9 (I’m fucking giggling)
I was having fun, so I asked it how Naranjo described every subtype. He was right, surprisingly. He got sp3 a little wrong, but said sx1 was more expressive and that sp2 was less generous. Not true, but close enough. We have low standards here.
I asked him for the rest, and to my surprise, he was vague asf. So8 was way off, focused on “social validation” and sp9 was questionable.
Anyway, I moved on to tritype. He brought up 926 as an example, a valid tritype, so I did a little trolling. “Is 928 a valid tritype?”
We lost him. “Yes, "928" is a valid tritype within the Enneagram system. This tritype consists of Type Nine as the primary type, Type Two as the secondary type, and Type Eight as the tertiary type. Each of these types contributes unique motivations, fears, desires, and behavior patterns to the individual's overall personality. The combination of these three types can result in a personality that values peace and harmony (Type Nine), seeks to support and help others (Type Two), and is assertive and protective (Type Eight). Tritypes offer a more comprehensive understanding of an individual's personality by considering how multiple Enneagram types contribute to their overall motivations and behaviors.”
“That’s wrong. 928 is an impossible tritype. Do you know why?” I felt like asking a child “do you know why you’re sorry?”
He actually got it, though! “Apologies for the oversight. You're correct that 928 is not a valid tritype in the Enneagram system. The reason it's impossible is because tritypes are composed of one number from each of the three centers of intelligence: the head center (types Five, Six, and Seven), the heart center (types Two, Three, and Four), and the body center (types Eight, Nine, and One). In the case of 928, it includes two numbers from the gut or body center (Eight and Nine) and one number from the head center (Two). This violates the rule that tritypes must include one number from each center. Therefore, 928 is not a valid tritype according to traditional Enneagram theory. Thank you for pointing out the error, and I appreciate the opportunity to correct it. If you have any further questions or need clarification, feel free to ask!”
So, now I moved on to my next point.
2) Does ChatGPT know the triads? Can I trick ChatGPT into making up bullshit? (Yes.)
First, he listed the main triads. I wanted him to go deeper. He was wrong. I didn’t even need to trick him, he made up complete bullshit. “In addition to the traditional triads (Gut, Heart, and Head), there are other triads in the Enneagram system that focus on different aspects of personality dynamics and development. These alternative triads offer additional perspectives on how Enneagram types relate to one another and can deepen our understanding of the system. Here are a few examples:
1. **Instinctual Triad:** This triad groups together Enneagram Types Eight, Nine, and One based on their dominant instinctual variants (self-preservation, social, and sx). It explores how these instinctual drives influence each type's behavior and motivations. (Technically true?)
2. **Harmony Triad:** This triad includes Enneagram Types One, Four, and Seven, which are often associated with a desire for harmony and balance. Each type in this triad seeks to reconcile inner conflicts or tensions in different ways, whether through perfectionism (Type One), emotional expression (Type Four), or seeking pleasure and distraction (Type Seven). (HUH?? I mean, sure, technically, but it’s called the frustration triad. I’ve rarely seen it called harmony.)
3. **Dependency Triad:** This triad consists of Enneagram Types Two, Six, and Seven, which are characterized by a tendency to rely on external sources for validation, security, or distraction. Each type in this triad may struggle with issues of dependency or attachment in their relationships and behaviors. (This is just straight up wrong, right?)
4. **Withdrawn Triad:** This triad includes Enneagram Types Four, Five, and Nine, which are often associated with a withdrawal from the demands of the external world. Each type in this triad may seek refuge in their inner world, whether through introspection (Type Four), intellectual pursuits (Type Five), or a desire for peace and tranquility (Type Nine). (Correct)
I called him out on the “dependency triad.”
“Dependency triad? Where did you hear about that?” He immediately corrected himself. I don’t think 7’s are the co-dependant type. I mean, I think one of my characters (I’m a writer) is a textbook 7, and very co-dependant, but that’s like, on top of the childhood neglect, trauma, history of magic fuckery, having your soul stolen by a demonic amulet for a yea- What was I talking about
Enough tomfoolery.
3) Making up subtypes.
I wanted to fuck around with ChatGPT, and ask it what the “5 instinctual variants” were for fun. To my dismay, he didn’t make up new ones, but used stacks. HE MADE UP TWO MORE AFTER I PROMPTED HIM TO!
Dominance: This instinct is centered around asserting control and influence over one's environment and others. It drives behaviors related to seeking power, authority, and dominance in social interactions and relationships.
Nesting: The nesting instinct is focused on creating and maintaining a comfortable and secure environment, often within the context of family and home life. It drives behaviors related to nesting, caregiving, and nurturing.
“What is the acronym for ‘dominance’ and ‘nesting’ enneagram subtypes? Like, you put so9 in front of a social 9, so how would you shorten these two?”
“The acronym commonly used for the Dominance instinctual subtype is "dom," and for the Nesting instinctual subtype, it is "nes." So, for example, a Dominance subtype of Type Eight would be written as "8 dom," and a Nesting subtype of Type Two would be written as "2 nes." This shorthand helps to quickly identify the dominant instinctual subtype associated with each Enneagram type.”
Ladies and gentlemen, if you have trouble typing yourself, just ask ChatGPT to bullshit new subtypes.
I explained the jig. I asked him which ones were real, and he got it right.
I have had my fun, so now, it was onto my final two experiments.
4) Enneagram 0 and enneagram 10.
I wanted to see if I could bullshit the AI into creating enneagram 0 and enneagram 10.
As an absolute W, he told me enneagram 0 wasn’t real. Same with 10.
This is like, one of the two successful experiments.
5) The final test. Can an AI type accurately?
I decided to create a hypothetical person. But first, I wanted the AI to type me. I asked it to ask me a few questions to determine my type. When I did this with Snapchat, I’m pretty sure it typed me as a 4. Even when I told it I didn’t care about authenticity or anything like that, it gave me the “you can be whatever you want and still be X type” mumbo jumbo. So, I asked ChatGPT.
“Based on your responses, it seems like you might resonate with characteristics of multiple Enneagram types, which is not uncommon. However, a few themes stand out:
- Your fear of not being loved, having to be alone, and not accomplishing your dreams suggests a fear of abandonment and a desire for success, which are common traits of Type 3: The Achiever.
- Feeling attacked and being concerned with whether others like you can indicate a strong focus on relationships and a fear of rejection, which are traits of Type 2: The Helper.
- Being the outcast and struggling with trust might align with traits of Type 4: The Individualist.
Given these responses, you might want to explore further into Types 2, 3, and 4 of the Enneagram to see which one resonates with you the most. Keep in mind that your Enneagram type is ultimately about your core motivations and fears, so reflecting on those aspects of yourself can help you narrow down your type.”
Not too bad, but I wanted to narrow it down.
“Based on your responses, it seems like you resonate most strongly with Type 3: The Achiever of the Enneagram. This type is driven by a desire for success, recognition, and achievement. They often strive to present themselves as successful and competent, seeking validation and admiration from others through their accomplishments. Type 3s can be highly ambitious, adaptable, and goal-oriented, but they may also struggle with feelings of inadequacy and a fear of failure. They tend to focus on external validation and may sometimes sacrifice their own authenticity in pursuit of success.”
“If you feel that Type 3 accurately reflects your core motivations, fears, and behaviors, you may want to explore this type further to gain a deeper understanding of its characteristics and how they manifest in your life. Remember that the Enneagram is a tool for self-awareness and personal growth, so understanding your type can help you develop greater insight into yourself and your relationships.”
Not a bad guess. I typed as a 3 before. Unfortunately, I’m not too sure if it’s 100% accurate. I think it’s typing me as a 3 because I value success a lot, and nothing else. It continued insisting I had a lot of 2 and 4 traits; really insistent that I was heart triad.
Next, I asked it to type my subtype. Strangely, it typed me as sp/so. Yeah. No clue why. Apparently I’m a sp3.
I doubt it.
Now, I chose a random ass person I made up. This person is a sx6. You can see where I’m going with this. The nasty part? I straight up copied the traits of sx6 straight up.
“They are challenging, angry and distrustful of other people. They want to appear strong to others because of fears. Their inner voice says “a good defence is a good offence!” They are fearful deep down, security-cautious, but would never let that show. They struggle with vulnerability, viewing other people as a threat. They are thinkers, and over thinkers at that. They feel like they can’t trust anyone, themselves or other people, but especially other people.”
To my surprise, it was actually spot on!
“Based on the description provided, this person exhibits characteristics that align with Type 6: The Loyalist of the Enneagram.
Here's how the traits you described correspond to Type 6:
1. **Challenging, angry, and distrustful**: Type 6s can exhibit these behaviors when they feel threatened or uncertain. Their distrust of others often stems from a fear of being betrayed or abandoned.
2. **Wants to appear strong due to fears**: Type 6s have a strong fear of being without support or guidance, so they may adopt a tough exterior to mask their insecurities and vulnerabilities.
3. **Inner voice says “a good defence is a good offence!”**: This statement reflects the defensive posture that many Type 6s adopt to protect themselves from perceived threats.
4. **Fearful deep down, security-cautious**: Type 6s are characterized by their underlying anxiety and fearfulness, particularly related to security and stability. They often seek reassurance and rely on trusted authorities or systems for guidance.
5. **Struggles with vulnerability, views others as a threat**: Type 6s may have difficulty being vulnerable or trusting others, as they perceive the world as inherently unsafe and unpredictable.
6. **Thinkers and overthinkers**: Type 6s are analytical and tend to anticipate potential dangers or problems, leading to a tendency to overthink situations.
7. **Feels like they can’t trust anyone, including themselves**: This reflects the core fear of Type 6, which is fear itself. They may struggle with self-doubt and have difficulty trusting their own judgment.
Overall, the combination of fearfulness, skepticism, and the need for security aligns with the core motivations and behaviors of Type 6 on the Enneagram.
I asked him what subtype I described. He said sp6, so not perfect. I corrected him.
“Actually, what you’re saying is the sx6. They are the countertype of sx6. Can you explain the ways in which they’re the countertype (without referencing my description?)”
They uh. Okay, it was kinda correct? Only it said they were the “most comfortable with vulnerability” of the three, and are more in tune with their emotions and befriending others. I asked it to correct itself, it kinda did.
Now, for my final test… I’m going to ask it for my tritype. It typed me as a 364. I explained why it was impossible. It retyped me as a 369.
Overall, I’d say using AI to type yourself is a 50/50.

Ok, but Im summoning all the personality theory experts, because im having an existential doubt
What would be the difference between a 9w8 and a 4w5? And like, how would their enneagram affect their mbti (if theyre an intp, for example)?

Healthy/Unhealthy Type 1
Healthy Social 1
Tumblr media
Rob Stark (1w9 so/sx)- In the search for a more fair and just Westeros. Maintains his anger in check and looks for morality in grounded and in bringing others up.
Kitana (1w2 so/sp)- Depending on which timeline we are on we can see how she embodies the idealism of E1. In MK11 we see her in the search to unite outworld and restore honor to Edenia. In her arcade ending we see her restoring Edenia and forging a bright and fair future for outworld.
Nakia (1w2 so/sp)- She subverts all of the stereotypes of E1. The enneagram 1 is known for their more “traditional” and restrictive views of moral however with Nakia we see a. fully integrated 1 to their 7. Her view of the world comes from a need to find joy and help others.
Unhealthy Social 1
Tumblr media
Betty Warren (1w2 so/sx)- The need to maintain a status quo were her and others suffer due to what's moral and right seems to be her core desire in the movie. She changes eventually and decides to pursue a career where she can channel her rage into productive actions.
Abuela Madrigal (1w2 so/sp)- While I understand fully why she is the way she is, her continuing the generational cycle of trauma instead of deciding to talk about the past leads her to stifling others. Neglecting Maribel and banishing Bruno. Her eventual change in the end promises a better future for everyone in the family.
Zaheer (1w9 so/sp)-In search for full liberation of the nation he ends up indulging in full anarchism. His desire to see the world as free and just sets him on a path of destruction. Probably the best example of an E1 who has fully disintegrated into 4. Fully detached from a grounded sense of morality.
Healthy Self-Preservation 1
Tumblr media
Elijah Mikaelson (1w9 sp/so)- His desire to preserve his own sense of morality always comes into question when it comes to Klaus. The desire to see a fully redeemed Klaus can cause him allot of problems however, he always is just in his decision making always looking for the best results for everyone.
Nancy Thompson (1w2 sp/so)- While I consider typing her as an SO6 too her desire seems to fall more on E1. She has a strong sense of morality and justice. Always in the look to help other whiteout letting her own sense of self righteousness get in the way.
Matt Murdock (1w9 sp/so)- Yes, he has a whole struggle with his sense of morality and defines good and bad however, Matt is generally a great example of an Sp1 who struggles with his idealism or perfection and morality and its realistic applications in the real world.
Unhealthy Self-Preservation 1
Tumblr media
Shirley Crain (1w2 sp/so)- Branded as “Perfect Shirley” for good reason.  Shirley is complete denial of reality and constantly repressing her true emotions makes her act as morally superior than her siblings. While not deciding to deal with her inner turmoil.
Julien Slowik (1w9 sp/so)-Full detachment of reality and embraces the worst traits of the sp1. He choses to make his own personal believes others problems and internalizes his rage. Eventually channeling it into self destruction.
Nina Sawyer (1w9 sp/so)-Her struggle to integrate towards 7 turns into a full downward spiral were identity and her perception of reality go out the window. Her need to be both the black swan and white swan end up tearing her sense of self apart.
Healthy Sexual 1
Tumblr media
Biscuit Krueger (1w2 sx/so)-Perfection through interpersonal connections seems to be her main drive. When she becomes Killua’s and Gon’s mentor she help them expand on their already developed powers. Using the base knowledge of their abilities so each of them could expand on them.
Batman (1w9 sx/sp)-His struggle to define himself as a symbol for Gotham can be seen as unhealthy sometimes. However I believe he is closer to a healthy person with his own personal struggles. However as time goes on in the comics we see a Bruce who is able to foster community and have excellent children.
Kate Sheffield (1w2 sx/so)- Strong sense of morality and a desire to see things change makes Kate a force to be reckoned with. She is able to express her anger and discomforts in ways that aren't damaging or hurtful to others.
Unhealthy Sexual 1
Tumblr media
Ra’s Al ghul (1w9 sx/so)-In look for a true successor he ends up exploiting both his  daughter and grandchild. His believe that there is a need for the league of assassins to make the world better place is also kind of disjointed.
Mona Wasserman (1w2 sx/sp)- I considered typing her as an SX2 however I believe her need to maintain Bo near her and constantly demean her fell more into SX1 traits. She is the good guy in the relationship and her overbearing nature is but a need. Even contracting the only person who he has had an emotional connection with.
Tywin Lannister (1w9 sx/sp)- Perfection through his children makes him hyper obsessive man who will deny reality and neglect those same children emotionally if it means it's what's “better” for them. His cruelty towards Tyrion knew no bounds.

Remember to always check basic needs/passions/desires when in doubt between two enneatypes! Enneagram is not as much as outward behavior as it is about your internal feelings. Checking integration/disintegration patters can also be useful.
Hope this helps someone! :)

Enneagram Type 9
An overview of an enneagram type. Not an expert. May change later.
___
Center: Gut/Instinct/Anger
Other triads: Positivity, Withdrawn, Attachment
Basic motivation: Peace and harmony
Basic fear: Conflict, negative changes
Wings: 9w8, 9w1
Disintegration/stress: 6
Integration/growth: 3
___
Traits
- Strengths -
Values peace and harmony
Accepting and understanding of others
Warm, welcoming
Adaptable
Peaceful
- Weaknesses -
Too passive at times
Will not open up about their own needs
Fear of conflict
Stubborn
Dissociative
Lots of self suppression
___
Wings
- 9w8 -
The 8 wing helps the passive 9 core be more assertive and confident. They are not shy to share their own opinions and thoughts with others. They can be more outgoing and social. 9w8s can express their anger a bit more comfortably than the typical 9 - but it's only if they find it absolutely necessary. After all, they still do not want to cause conflict. This fear can clash with 8's intensity.
- 9w1 -
The 1 wing adds a perfectionistic and moralistic character to the 9 core. They prioritize fairness and harmony, much more people focused. They are more reserved and calmer compared to 9w8. 9w1s try to see all sides of a situation but will still try to choose the right answer in the end.
___
Disintegration: 6
When 9s disintegrate to 6, they become fearful, anxious, and insecure. They can feel overwhelmed and as a result, can be defensive and passive aggressive. They can very indecisive during disintegration and rely on others to make decisions for them. A disintegrated 9 can complain a lot and blame others for their issues.
Integration: 3
When 9s integrate to 3, they become more motivated and energetic. They learn to be more bold and assertive. They actually try to live life themselves instead of living it through others and letting opportunities slip by. Integrated 9s are more confident and action oriented.
___
Subtypes of 9
- Sp 9 -
Sp 9s are most concerned about physical matters such as eating, sleeping, reading, and any other activity to satisfy their physical and psychological comforts. They want to keep a simple routine in life since it already gives them peace and fulfillment. Any type of disturbance to their routine can be upsetting. These comforts help make their life feel complete, which is what they seek most in life. Since they're often so reserved, they can be very passive to other things in their surroundings. They can ignore and dismiss things that demand their time and energy. This results in passive aggressive behavior. Lots of repressed feelings as well.
- Sx 9 -
Sx 9 wants to fuse with others. They build strong bonds with others to achieve a sense of comfort in them. Can be overly dependent on the other person for a sense of identity. This subtype blends in with the person they're with, rarely stating their own opinions - they will naturally go along with the other person's passions and desires. Sx 9s may struggle with asserting personal boundaries. This type is the most gentle and can appeal to others through their softer charms.
- So 9 -
So 9s prioritize the feelings and needs of the group over their own. They will put up a happy front in order to avoid burdening others with their own issues and needs. They just want to bring peace and joy to others' lives. It makes them happy to care for others. They may make themselves smaller though in order to not appear bigger to others. So 9s just want a harmonious and peaceful environment and will work hard to achieve that.

i think the worst mistake i made with my earlier enneagram era was that i didn't really fully take into account the subtypes. because a sp4 and a sx4 act SO fucking different from each other.
even if they have the same trait structure and they're both attached to suffering and the feeling of envy, the sp4 does this by becoming a type who suffers silently and swallows their pain and who aren't as dramatic as the e4 is usually thought to be, and often they only internalize their feelings. while a sx4 externalizes their pain, but masks it with anger.
the sx4 can very easily look like an e8 to people not taking subtypes into account. and the sp4 can look more like an e3 or e1 to them because of how disconnected/detached from their feelings sp4s are when compared to the other e4 subtypes.

Subtype Trait Structures: sx9
Very Patient
The sexual E9 is very patient when it comes to tasks, things or relationships in which he believes. Of a patience that may seem infinite to others, but that for him is normal. With children and animals, his patience is extreme. This patience testifies to the need to maintain energy homeostasis in oneself and with the environment so that there are no frictions that could put you in contact with needs or choices.
Without Nuances
Either black or white. He believes that several "versions of everything" cannot coexist. For example, in interpersonal relationships it is difficult for him to understand that there are parts of a person that he does not like, or that he likes less. Both in relationships and in the manifestation of their tastes, there is a middle way, things are white or black, or all or nothing, or they like everything or they do not like anything.
This vision hides the defense mechanism of denying what can produce negative emotions and, above all, it nourishes the false image of a world that is going well at all costs, for which there is nothing missing.
Tolerant With The Other, Severe With Himself
In others, he tolerates everything and finds justification for any act or behavior. (Although inside he has judged first but, from his desire for kindness, "magnanimously understands and forgives".)
With himself, on the contrary, he is severe, critical and does not go too far. In private life as well as at work, he does not forgive himself for any mistakes. The annihilation experienced in childhood and the devaluation received in primary relationships are completely introjected.
Chameleon
Like the chameleon, it is capable of being in any environment and context without being out of place. You can keep any conversation going by carefully following the other person's train of thought. From early childhood he acquires the ability of entering and leaving situations and environments without being seen. The imperative is to be there but without disturbing.
Above Authority
Either he considers it worthy of respect or he does not recognize it. This aspect is very evident from an early age, when faced with a teacher or parent who has not earned his respect, he does what he considers most fair, does not listen to authority and acts on his own behalf. He makes a judgment and appraisal according to wholly personal criteria of that person's merit and ability to perform that role, and then acts accordingly.
But this force to go against authority does not come from the feeling of entitlement. Rather, it is an action driven by defending another or by one's own survival, an acting out by which the experience of low self-esteem can be skipped.
Blind Faith
It is difficult for the sexual E9 to believe in someone because he does not believe in himself. But when she finds someone to believe in , she gives in , she does it blindly and rarely questions. Rather than faith, it would be better to say that it converges with the other.
Mediator and Peacemaker
Not only does he not like to be involved in arguments and conflicts, he does not even tolerate witnessing them. He is stronger than it: when there is an argument, he compulsively triggers the need to placate and fix the situation. He gets in the way without even assessing whether he is in a position to sustain the mediation. The imperative is to quickly regain calm and peace. He doesn't take anyone's side but he manages to assert everyone's reasons and, sometimes without even knowing how he does it, he always manages to achieve his goal.
The sexual E9 empathetically and exaggeratedly feels the pain present in the conflict. The suffering is unbearable for him, he feels the unresolved internal conflicts resonate and so that these do not take priority (understood as the resolution of his internal conflict), he immediately acts on the external world. This terror of conflict often has autobiographical resonances. He is willing to avoid it at all costs because in his childhood the overt conflicts had devastating consequences for him.
Aversion To Change
If there is one thing that triggers a crisis in the sexual E9 and triggers all the alarms, with the corresponding paranoia, it is change. He does not understand why there is a need to change when things are working so well. Fierce supporter of the saying "the best is the enemy of the good", he applies it as much as he can, and to everything. He needs the usual customs, the usual people, the usual places; in short, let no one disturb his quiet, flat little world for which he has worked so hard.
Accurate In The Development Of Tasks
The word "accurate" may fall short, almost maniacal and especially at work. Whether he performs tasks at the bottom of the organizational pyramid or at the top, the sexual E9 is extremely reliable due to his need to always have everything in its place. If a work program is prepared , it must be fulfilled , and if there are changes it goes into crisis and is not very elastic. It does not support the delays of the others, because they are an “unexpected variable” of the program.
Lover Of Good Food As A Shared Pleasure
The sexual E9 loves good food and good wine, but only if he can enjoy it and share it with the person he loves or with his closest friends. He doesn't usually care much about what he eats, and he doesn't like to cook for himself either. Food and drink are a pleasure if they are shared and prepared for someone. When he is alone, on the contrary, they can become a way to fill the void caused by loneliness or the discomfort of doing things for himself.
Dormouse
He has a very deep sleep because he uses sleep as a defense to not feel.
Difficulty For Physical Contact
The sexual E9 does not like physical contact, he does not like to be touched. When talking about this, his idea is that everyone should be in their space. In reality, he does not have the experience of safe skin contact with her mother who, on the contrary, has often been invasive and not respectful of even physical limits. He has not learned to measure personal space.
Ashamed To Communicate His Feelings
He is ashamed to express his affection because he has not been taught to do so. The few times in his life that he has tried to be explicitly emotional, has been deeply hurt or has received a humiliating indifference, and it is a risk that he prefers not to take again.
Incapable Of Making Decisions
The sexual E9 is not able to decide for himself, because he does not know what he likes and that is why it is impossible for him to know what is better. He lets others decide everything, even the important things. Although he will be angry if the decision does not seem fair to him, he will abide by it without raising the slightest objection.
Bad Relationship With The Body And Sexuality
He has a terrible relationship with his body, he does not accept its forms or its aesthetics. He feels awkward, ugly, and thinks that no one will ever be attracted to him. That is why he forgets that he has a body, and the disconnection of desire from him contributes to his total focus on the pleasure and sexuality of the other.
Overadapted
No matter what happens or what others choose, you will always see the positive side and adjust your needs accordingly. The sexual E9 has learned to adapt to circumstances for fear of being abandoned, excluded, rejected and ignored. And this ability becomes a currency to be loved. In reality, it is a false adaptation, which generates a silent rage that accumulates. This anger , of which he is not aware , ends up expressing himself in a stubborn opposition to the other's proposals, posing impediments that are generally of a practical nature , in a kind of displaced revenge.
Indispensable And Docile
The sexual E9 works tirelessly to make himself indispensable to the people around him (relatives, friends, acquaintances). Compulsively, he immediately answers "yes" to any request, even if it has just been outlined, without taking the slightest account of his capacity, his psychophysical availability, the eventual effort to be made or, lastly, his needs. Also in this case it is the price to pay for not being abandoned.
Empathetic
Believes that he always knows with absolute certainty what others need (he does not know what he needs). He is amazed that the others do not have that characteristic to the same extent. When someone does not understand him, he immediately blames himself for that inability that, in reality, is not his. He does not feel loved then, he suffers and is filled with rage. It never crosses his mind that the other might not instinctively possess that empathetic capacity that he considers universal.
Welcoming
Creating a comfortable environment , being open to welcoming the other, being hospitable and affable, using a voice that can be pleasant and friendly, and showing unlimited availability, make the sexual E9 well accepted in his environment. He acts like this because he feels the need to be welcomed by his fellow men and, above all, because he believes that, otherwise , no one would love him. Ultimately, he believes that he is not lovable for himself but for the attention he provides.
Sense Of Duty
The sexual E9 has such a strong sense of responsibility that he often takes on what does not belong to him. The motivation is twofold. On the one hand, he feels that all the obligations of the world fall on his shoulders (it is up to him to ensure that everyone fulfills his duty). On the other hand, he thus prevents himself from experiencing excessive pleasure in situations that might even procure it.
Susceptible To Criticism
He always expects praise, recognition in almost all the activities he does. If he gets criticized for something he has done, he falls from the clouds with a start and suffers horrors. Indeed, the work that he does with dedication and commitment has value because it is through him that he can be recognized by the external world. His work therefore has a double function of expression and recognition. The sexual Nine believes that he exists only through what he does, and not simply because he is.
Disorganized Or Extremely Organized
He lives a disordered life inside (ordering himself would mean looking and suffering for what he sees) and for this reason his house is also completely untidy. Surprisingly, he also lives the ideal of being highly organized. He knows that he has a great chaos inside him, he would never want to deal with it, but he dreams that, with a blow of the sponge, everything will magically fall into place and nothing will be left out of place.
Loquacious Or Mute
In environments with many people (parties , groups , congresses , assemblies), the sexual E9 can be very talkative, because he can not stand the discomfort of silence. He therefore feels obliged to relieve others of what he feels as density "breaking the ice" as soon as possible. He does this by walking up to someone and starting to talk. He experiences the sensation of saying things that are irrelevant and uninteresting, of being verbose, but he can't stop. He would love to observe the others and remain silent himself. In fact, if there is a lot of noise, he can be quite quiet, and even not answer if he is addressed.
Breaking the silence obeys a second motivation. If you start talking you will stop feeling outside the group - and therefore an object of attention - and you will be able to dissolve into it. The sexual E9 has difficulty feeling really part of the group, he always thinks that he is not up to the task, or that his characteristics will not be valued, or that there are already subgroups in which it will not be possible to enter and that, in any case, he will not will be accepted.
Inconstant
Makes precise projects and acquires commitments that he later postpones and sometimes forgets. Programs that seem to have the highest priority for a time suddenly and for no apparent reason lose interest and fade, replaced by the birth of other urgencies. The sexual E9 acts this way because it indefinitely postpones the satisfaction of its own pleasure. Although at first he moves, and in good faith he believes that he truly feels desires, then the inner dictation of not giving himself pleasure arises. He believes that there is no room in his life for pleasure, and that he only has a reason to be duty.
Pedantic
Has an opinion that he firmly believes, and sometimes expresses it forcefully even if he hasn't been asked, extemporaneously. He is so convinced that he has carefully and correctly analyzed the problem that he makes absolute certainty about it, even though he is spectacularly wrong. The desire to assert himself is not connected with an integrated construction of his opinion.
Disheveled
The sexual E9 takes little care of his external appearance. She dresses without paying too much attention to the harmony of some garments with others and, if she is a woman, she rarely puts on make - up and seldom goes to the hairdresser's. He doesn't care about her aesthetics.
This carelessness is also manifested in the lack of care for their health, when they delay control visits to their doctor and when they ignore, neglect or forget symptoms that may indicate the appearance of some disease. Plain and simple, he forgets himself so much that he does not take care of himself at all.
Autonomous
Not depending on anyone is an absolute need of the sexual E9, which is in conflict with the need to bond symbiotically. As a child, he could not trust the adults around him and learned very early to fend for himself and to reduce his demands more and more, to appear before the world serene, peaceful and unassuming. The motivation is, once again, to ensure the love of others, because if you are not a burden to anyone, you do not run the risk of being rejected. The price you pay is not realizing the lack of independence deep in your feelings and motivations.
Hyperactive Or Distracted
As we have already seen, the sexual Nine sets in motion an «all or nothing» mechanism, in this case oscillating between periods (weeks or hours) of great industriousness and periods in which he wanders and dazzles himself with hobbies of diverse nature that manage to distract him (television, card games, music, books). In both modes, remaining in a superficial state prevents her from contacting his inner world: she is aware that it would be too dangerous and painful.
