It's spirk ficrec time! Fics with less than 400 kudos - part 2
Part 1 here ; part 3 coming soon
These things we do not speak of - Della19 (AOS)
Basically anything written by this author is the best thing you'll read today, but this one, omg, this one. I don't have the right words to describe what it did to my heart. It's a classic falling in love - introspection - pon farr fic. The author has an amazing control of their style and of the characters, and the levels of pining are astronomical. Locked on ao3, so you'll need an account to read it.
The Sea King - killabeez (TOS MIRROR)
When I found this fic I couldn't believe my eyes. It's a mirroresque Gilgamesh au, elegant, epic and bittersweet. The mix of futuristic and mythological elements is really good. Can I say Gilgamesh and Enkidu were the original t'hy'la? There, I said it. Read this if you're looking for something different and you want to be surprised.
Root Systems - Moonfishgirl (AOS)
During a stay on New Vulcan, Jim watches Spock exist inside his own culture, and in the process he discovers something about himself (spoiler: he looooves him!). Adorable fic, rich on Vulcan traditions. Read this if you are into some good Vulcan culture and ancient t'hy'la warrior bond lore.
Five times Bones and Jim forgot they were married - Goldencoalcat (AOS MCSPIRK)
This time I wanted to include some Bones/Kirk/Spock too. This fic is adorable and a good Jim character study. It explores his relationship with his family and Winona in particular, and the reasons why he has issues with being loved. Characters are spot on. Read this if you're in the mood for hurt!Jim being pampered and loved by his two husbands.
one grave too many - leafings (every universe)
Not exactly a mirror universe, but a twisted, fucked-up universe in which the crew loves Jim in a dark and obsessive way and is willing to do anything for his sake, and I mean here Enterprise rhymes with homicide. In the midst of the dark stuff, to no one's surprise, Jim and Spock also find time for their t'hy'la shit. I live for this concept.
A heart even more your own - cicia3 (TOS)
Hey, it's me. I wanted to end with this fic of mine because I really think I wrote this in some sort of mystical fit and I'll never write something this good again lol it's a Persuasion AU with some other good old Austen shenanigans. Excruciating pining + sexual tension + romance.
{reposting because the first time it went under the radar! Please give some love to fic authors and reblog this post ❤️

Do you know anything about FGO Arcade? Cause it has an evil 'Gilgamesh' (actually Nebuchadnezzer II) And I really like the idea of Hakuno ending up there, Nebuchadnezzer taking one look at her and the part of his body that is Gilgamesh slamming into him cause WAIFU. I imagine it would be a lot like the FSN cross will be, with the corollary that this isn't REALLY Gilgamesh. Also, Enkidu is there in Arcade verse Babylonia, and I love the idea of them fighting with Hakuno against Not!Gil.
I know an ungodly amount about Arcade. Mostly because of ProtoMerlin being introduced there and needing to do a LOT to research.
Neb is technically a clone of Gilgamesh who was imbued with the spirit of Nebuchadnezzar II. Unfortunately, his type is Draco. Yes the Loli Nero. Because of course it is. Since if's a clone and not the real Gil, I'm not sure if it would be the same reaction, but if on the odd chance it was a version of Gil that Neb possessed, there would be an all out mental war.
Enkidu is amazing in Arcade and has absolutely no chill about murdering Neb and teasing Gil about being 1.0.
Tiamat is also there and she's utterly precious.

please please please talk about yugioh shipping and thematic parallels I wanna know
[vibrates intensely]
Welcome to my ADHD sufferdome. There are no exits. I watched Yugioh like seven years ago, and I'm going into museum work because I am so mentally ill about Ancient Sumer in specific that I needed access to essays, textbooks, and journals on the subject.
This is mostly going to be copied from a Discord rant I did. Credit to @mostlydeadlanguages for their translation of Gilgameš's lament for Enkidu, I needed to explain to my friends quickly why this work is amazing and their translation delivered. Go read all of their stuff now, it's well worth it.
So. I had the stunning realization that Seto Kaiba and Yami Yugi are in a fucking Gilgameš and Enkidu situation.
Gilgamesh was called a god and a man; Enkidu was an animal and a man. It is the story of their becoming human together.
—Herbert Mason, The Epic of Gilgamesh
This is extremely literal. Gilgameš is two-thirds god (everyone is at least one third god), and Enkidu was made from the clay of the field to be raised by beasts.
Enkidu was made specifically to humble Gilgameš and make him a better king. Conversely, the journey to Gilgameš and befriending him serves to civilize Enkidu.
They're both still characterized by their backgrounds and approach any given problem from those perspectives, but by knowing eachother they make eachother better people, and understand what it is to be human.
So.
Let's look briefly at Yami Yugi specifically, because Seto is petty and Yugi isn't enough for him, and Seto Motherfucking Kaiba.
Yami, as this iteration of himself, starts existence utterly feral.
He's everything Victorian guilt has nightmares about, the trope of the Pharaoh's Curse given life, divine justice through the lens of Hammurabi's Code. Shadow and emotion and sadistic satisfaction, pulled along by the primal drive to protect his heart and uphold the laws of the shadow realm.
He doesn't introduce himself, he just starts breaking people and sending them to the asylum.
Then there's Kaiba.
He's also driven around by his metaphorical dick to some extent, highly emotional despite his professed attachment to logic, but he is for all intents and purposes a little tyrant god-king, ruler of a tech development company with enough spare time to pay assassins to collect trading cards for him.
The first few times they clash it's an utter nightmare, because they're the worst versions of themselves and Yami didn't even really have a metaphorical Shamhat to explain anything. He and Yugi don't talk for a while.
Yami uses Mind Crush on this asshole boy genius and probably doesn't expect him to come back, because nobody else has. Mind Crush shatters a soul and forces them to piece themself back together, tormented by illusions of whatever they're susceptible to. The first guy we see it used on was convinced he was swimming in money.
It's one of those "technically not an execution because they could totally get out of it" sentences that traps people in their own vices and nightmares.
And Seto Motherfucking Kaiba manages to wake up from this magically induced soul-searching coma.
But what makes it interesting is that he's still an asshole.
Theoretically, Mind Crush is supposed to force you to confront yourself. And Kaiba did that. And he's still an asshole. There are many reasons I love him.
So what did he fix?
Well, it's nobody else's business, is it? We just have to interpret that by watching the show.
So let's bring it back to the Epic of Gilgameš for a second.
The first time Enkidu meets Gilgameš, he's trying to use the king's right to claim any newlywed bride's wedding night. The bride and her actual groom are very unhappy with this idea, but Gilgameš is a king, two-thirds god, and won't take no for an answer.
So Enkidu tells him off and clocks him in the jaw.
Epic Shonen Anime levels of brawling occur, like a meteor struck the earth, for several days and several nights. Finally, they're both equally beaten and bloody on their backs in the street.
And they trade names. And Gilgameš welcomes Enkidu back to his own home to rest, because no one has matched him this way before.
Let's take a look at Yami and Kaiba.
The first time they really meet, it's about Yugi's Grandpa having a super rare trading card. Grandpa is emotionally attached to this card and not willing to sell it. Not for money, not for life or limb.
Kaiba wants that card like he wants air to breathe, though. He has more money than god and won't take no for an answer. So.
When bribery fails, when his nice mode fails, it's cutthroat business time. Defeat and destroy. He rules a technologically superior gaming company, after all.
Kaiba beats Grandpa at a card game beefed up with enough holograms to give the man a heart attack, and then destroys the card. If he can't have it, no one can.
This pisses Yugi off, which wakes up the Pharaoh, and Yami proceeds to play the game, hand Kaiba his own ass, and Mind Crush him.
Something about these two situations seems very similar to me, and the way they then evolve from this to rivals is fascinating.
Kaiba refuses to believe that Yami is some sort of magical ghost, but he can believe that Yami might be better than him at this one thing, and this is intolerable. I'd almost be tempted to compare his determination to some approximation of bushido, he just has to beat Yami. Granted, this is tempered with other priorities- his brother, spitting on his dad's grave, etc- but it's respect. And Yami respects him back.
Technically I'd be willing to call Yugi the Shamhat to Yami's Enkidu, the one that teaches him the value of friendship and using your words like a person instead of a vengeful ghost. No, their only female best friend does not count At All. She honestly seems kind of incidental to any of their internal character development, and in particular Yami and Yugi's connection to eachother.
Yugi's the one who convinces Yami to stop Mind Crushing people.
All of this culminates in the end of the show, where Yami remembers who he is and moves on to the afterlife after a final duel. But it's not against Kaiba. It can't be. He duels Yugi, the other half of his heart and the only one who could truly defeat him.
In some ways, he dies because he learned how to be mortal again. Because Yugi taught him, all over again, how to be mortal.
(The same way that Shamhat, perhaps, could be seen as responsible for teaching Enkidu the same thing. She brought him into the world of men, just like Yugi solving the puzzle and bringing Yami into the light. Is it any wonder things ended the way they did?)
And Kaiba can't take it.
Yami was his. He had to defeat Yami. He couldn't give a rat's ass if Yugi was the one to defeat Yami, thereby taking the title of the King of Games, that's not the point. It's not about beating the strongest person anymore, no matter what he tells himself, it's about dueling Yami, perhaps the first person he ever saw as an equal.
So he tries, in his own way, to deny death and bring him back.
This is @mostlydeadlanguages 's translation of the Lament for Enkidu.
Listen, young men. Listen to me.
Listen, elders of great Uruk. Listen to me.
I weep for my friend Enkidu;
like a grief-stricken woman, I howl in despair.
The shaft at my side, the bedrock of my strength,
the sword at my belt, the shield before me,
the clothing for my festivals, the sash on my pleasure:
A fiendish force sprang up to snatch him from me.
“My friend, stubborn as a mule, nimble as a donkey, swift as a panther —
oh Enkidu, my friend, stubborn as a mule, nimble as a donkey, swift as a panther —
We were the ones who joined together to scale mountains, who captured and killed the Sacred Bull, who vanquished Humbaba, king of the Cedar Forest.
“So what kind of sleep steals you away now? Darkness cloaks you; you cannot hear me.”
Yet still [Enkidu] did not lift his head.
He felt for his pulse: utterly still.
He veiled his friend’s face like a bride; like an eagle, he circled over him.
Like a lioness robbed of her cubs, he circled back and forth, back and forth.
He tore at his curly hair until it piled up around him; he stripped off his finery and cast it away as anathema.
They said to Gilgamesh,
“Why do your cheeks look sunken, your face gaunt?
Why is your heart broken, your appearance wrecked?
Why does your gut churn in despair?
Why does your face seem so world-weary?
Why do you look scorched by sleet and sun, prowling the wilderness, dressed like a predator?”
Gilgamesh said to them,
“Why wouldn’t my cheeks look sunken, my face gaunt?
Why wouldn’t my heart be broken, my appearance wrecked?
Why wouldn’t my gut churn in despair?
Why wouldn’t my face seem world-weary?
Why wouldn’t I look scorched by sleet and sun, prowling the wilderness, dressed like a predator?
“My friend, stubborn as a mule, nimble as a donkey, swift as a panther —
Enkidu, my friend, stubborn as a mule, nimble as a donkey, swift as a panther —
We were the ones who joined together to scale mountains, who captured and killed the Sacred Bull, who vanquished Humbaba, king of the Cedar Forest, who killed lions in the mountain passes.
“My friend, whom I love fiercely,
who accompanied me through every trial —
Enkidu, my friend, whom I love fiercely,
who accompanied me through every trial –
The fate of all humans has vanquished him.
“For six days and seven nights, I wept over him.
I could not give him up to be buried.
Only after a maggot dropped out of his nose did I […]
“I prowl the wilderness because I’ve become afraid of death.
What happened to my friend was too heavy to endure,
and so I prowl the roads, world-weary.
What happened to Enkidu, my friend, was too heavy to endure,
and so I prowl the paths, world-weary.
“How could I keep quiet? How could I, of all people, fall silent?
My friend, the one I love, has turned to clay.
Enkidu, my friend, the one I love, has turned to clay.
Am I not like him? Will I not lie in rest, never to stir again, forever and ever?”
The worst part of it is, Yami is dead and there is no body. Yami is dead and his body is alive. Yugi's there, walking and talking and laughing, and Yami will never be behind those eyes again. There isn't even a funeral.
Kaiba has never had to mourn before. He killed his own asshole father. Anytime someone kidnapped his brother or stole his brother's soul, he could just get the kid back. With extreme effort, but it was possible. He has money, resources, his youth, and his intelligence. They've gotten him everything he wants before. He should be able to bring Yami back.
But he can't.
His friend, whom he loves, has turned to clay. Just a carving in a tomb, just a line in a fulfilled prophecy, his story over. And that's the end of it.
Perhaps worse still, Yami was never made for Kaiba- he was always one half of Yugi. In some ways the second they met he was already leaving, and the second he was "born" he was already dying. Kaiba, no matter how you want to read it, fell in some kind of platonic or romantic or otherwise love with a dead man, the same way Gilgameš fell in love with the tool made to keep him to heel. And that man needed to die. That tool, eventually, needed to be used to teach him his final lesson, and the man who ruled the world suddenly had nothing at all. The sun still shone, the birds still sang, but his friend had turned to clay.

[transcript: The corpse sinks to the floor... the vessel becomes sand, becomes dust... even the brightest gold, even the sharpest sword... is wrapped in the sheath of time... woe to the pharaoh, for his body lacks even his name... time is the battlefield of souls... I cry the song of battle, the song of a friend... to the place far away where our souls meet... guide me...]
In Yugioh, the protagonists have lived before. Kaiba and Yami-and-Yugi were High Priest Seth and the Pharaoh Atem respectively, and Seth also had to bury his friend. They were significantly more emotionally available to eachother, from what I can tell, so it didn't have to be couched in the safe distance of "I just want to duel you for the rest of my life". The above is what he wrote to commemorate Atem's death, and it is implied that even in Seth's current incarnation as Kaiba, staunch disbeliever in magic and souls and merrily frolicking through meadows, his determination to duel Yami even in the throes of his own madness was some part of his soul yearning to connect with Atem in this new life. Even if that connection was based on elaborate traps and death threats, but hey. We all start somewhere. Enkidu and Gilgameš had a vicious street brawl.
What Enkidu didn't know, though, was that Gilgameš was waiting for him. Some part of the king knew, and was waiting, and was dreaming of a change to his life so extreme that it would fall on his land like a meteor. He had to visit his mother and ask for dream interpretation, because really, what do you conclude from a front row seat to the idea that an axe will fall into your hand, that fits your grasp like a lover and all the world will envy?
Honestly, this is why connections doomed by the narrative are so much fun. Yes, you're going to learn a hard lesson and the force of your grief will eternally alter the brain chemistry of an ADHD nerd six thousand years hence. But it's worth it anyway, because your best friend might be clay, but he'll be clay six thousand years hence and some ADHD nerd will fervently shanghai a group call to tell the story over, and over, and over again.
Don't forget to visit that translator's Tumblr page, their stuff is really cool.

Uh something about Enkidu getting a bonus against threats to humanity....
Honestly, it seems like we are voting for half a pair here lmao. Nobu's anti-mystery and anti-divinity aspects seem like they'd be great against B+ divinity and the rest of her skills and NP would also be great Arjuna on the other hand...
Well. He looks pretty? I don't think he is particularly amazing in this scenario especially since Avenger copied Hero of the Endowed, but he is extra firepower.
I think Casters are there to just keep her busy with summons and with Rule breaker additionally being anti-magic but I can't think of any statistical bonuses that Dante would get against Foreigner that are particularly amazing.
Beyond that, I do think it's a tossup between Berserker and Lancer for just a 'hit things very hard' class but we also need to go against the grail, which, might be Berserkers as the very strong generalists?
Oh right, threats against humanity would be banging if it works that’s the one thing Gogh definitely is
Honestly in a normal hgw/his more standard set arjuna would be better off here given he usually has the anti-divinity at least like nobu as well, not to mention he also has a debuff immune on his clairvoyance (the best in game, actually as far as I know, it’s 5 turns on a 6 turn cooldown and doesn’t leave as soon as it’s hit w one). The problem is that team archer wasn’t smart enough to get it on him like berserker was with kintoki so his clairvoyance only buffs investigating. Idk maybe he can still slow time down when he focuses. I feel like objectively his arrows would’ve normally had a longer range than nobu’s guns but to be honest I suspect fate probably doesn’t care that he could shoot like 2 miles out with thousands of arrows being shot near simultaneously; and that a flintlock rifle can only go about 75-100 metres while needing to be reloaded bc I’m almost positive nobu can shoot things farther away than that. (She can also summon 100000 guns but tbh that makes sense re: her lore anyway) If they were cool she would have a much smaller range per single gun but.
Caster is twofold wanted bc of Medea’s rulerbreaker, which has been a ‘stupid fate bullshit destroyer’ since like…heavens feel at least iirc, not to mention Dantes can summon absolute scads of shades which are equally competent as any other servant which would help hold the line. And also that one time he summon a demon. Who knows maybe he could even get us pizza now too
The main concern is….uh I’m not sure how much Gogh specifically counts as divine. Ik elder gods yada yada, but I’m not sure if the painter cancels that out? Or does the nymph bit then come into question? Does elder god bs count as a mystic? And does buff canceling also include debuff immune skills??

Super late but the magical @spinmewriteround tagged me to post five songs I've recently listened to - thank you 💕
I like a lot of CAS but the lyrics are my preferred ship dynamics in a nutshell:
Tumblr media
Girlschool are dear to me but especially this song? Is just so invigorating; you either need to listen to it during a fun night out or when you're imagining a fun night out for fictional characters
I know a few non-US people got tagged for this to see what music they're listening to so was trying to think of something that worked location-wise (could have been Halocene, or Skunk Anansie) but also was from 2023...that basically left this song, which I do love
Acoustic covers of Iron Maiden songs with some of them sounding like they'd work for a DnD session? Right up my alley and right into my anachronistic Eddie playlist
Clean sound and amazing vocals, probably one of the songs I've listened to the most
Now I've been largely absent the last month with intermittent reappearances - sorry if I'm tagging anyone who's already done this (!), please let me know so I can look for your original post in that case
Anyway tagging:
@xoxoemynn @delta-piscium @metal-dads @harmonictechnicality @metaldeads @flieslikeamoron
As always, feel free to ignore if you're not in the mood & feel free to do it even if I didn't tag you as I mostly went by recent notifs

Fate/Strange Fake 1
Tumblr media
Author: Ryohgo Narita
Illustrator: Shizuki Morii
Label: Dengeki Bunko
Release Date: 10 January 2015
My Score: 4/5
Genre: Action, Battle Royale
This series is part of the Fate franchise and it follows a “fake” Holy Grail War in America. The rules are a bit different to the usual Holy Grail War, in ways that aren’t made all too clear in this volume. This volume serves as an extended prologue as we are introduced to the masters and servants that we will be following throughout the series. Each chapter introduces a new pair and focuses on them.
This was a really good first volume. It got me intrigued to follow the story and the characters. The characters are all interesting and the story has a lot of potential. it’s definitely an introductory volume that made me more excited in what this series will become rather than enjoying this volume on it’s own. I was amazed at how quickly I was able to get through it but it was the kind of book that always made me want to read on. I‘m super interested in how this series is going to progress and I ended this volume just wanting to read the next.
As much as I enjoyed this volume, I don’t feel like I have a lot to say about it and I’m worried this is going be recurring issue with this series so I am going to talk about the characters that appear on the covers for each volume that I do. Similar to what I did with Youzitsu, but I want to go more in-depth.
On the cover for this volume is Archer/Gilgamesh and Lancer/Enkidu. Their identities are revealed soon after they are introduced so I wouldn’t consider it a spoiler (also, I think everyone in the Fate fandom knows what Gilgamesh and Enkidu look like). For most of the servants, their identities are either explicitly stated or we are given enough clues to make an educated guess. The exception is a certain someone who is introduced at the end of the volume and I haven’t been spoiled as to who they are so I am very excited to learn more.
Gilgamesh is the first servant to be introduced in this volume. Gilgamesh would have to be the servant with the most appearances in this franchise. He was in the original, he was in Zero, Extra CCC, and this, and of course he appears in Grand Order and I’m probably forgetting something. Gilgamesh is always a fun and interesting character so it’s not hard to see why people love him and each writer is usually able to do something with him to make things interesting. Here, it seems to be his relationship with Enkidu that will be explored, and I really am excited to see more of their dynamic. I might be more interested in Gilgamesh’s master though than Gilgamesh himself. His master, Tine, is a Native American, and it’s so cool to see Native American representation in anything. I’m really interested to learn more about her and what her role in the narrative is going to be.
I think this was Enkidu’s first appearance in the franchise. They later appeared in Grand Order but I think this predates that. I love seeing a non-binary take on a figure like Enkidu and I really like the way that they are portrayed. Enkidu’s master is a wolf and I love them. I hope nothing bad happens to them. These two are my favourite pair so far. I really hope the wolf survives this series.
Also, I had to laugh at Nasu’s afterword where he talks about how Narita pitched this as a 5-volume series. Nasu says, ‘Narita, do you really think this plot is going to fit in 5 volumes?’ The series is ongoing at 8 volumes so I had to laugh.
Adaptation Notes:
A TV Special anime adaptation came out recently. I watched and it motivated me to finally read the light novels so it definitely works well as an advertisement for the series. It condenses the first volume into a 55 minute episode and it does a pretty good job of it. There’s some stuff that’s cut out and some details are lost and it makes it feel more like highlight reel than anything else but it manages to tell a coherent story and get you pumped for the full anime. Because of the way that the original volume was structured with each chapter focusing on a specific master/servant pair, the anime did some restructuring of scenes to make the timeline more linear so that we jump between different storylines. We get more backstory and details about the masters and servants in the light novel. In particular, the anime cut a lot of details about Assassin’s identity and the situation with Tsubaki. Also, most of the last chapter, where we are introduced to Ayaka is cut from the anime.
A full-length TV series has been announced and there’s been some speculation as to whether they will continue where the special left off or readapt the first volume more faithfully. I feel like they will continue where the special ended and adapt that last chapter fully. I feel like they will have to add back in the details that were cut with Assassin and Tsubaki at some point but maybe there will be a good time in future plotlines to do that and they won’t do it straight away. I don’t think they will just readapt the first volume. The special is a perfectly serviceable adaptation to introduce the characters and, aside from those bits, I don’t see any point in readapting it.

Gilles de Rais, William Shakespeare, Jack the Ripper, Solomon, Nero Claudius, Kid Gil, Abigail Williams. Revenge for my 5k answer to yours.
First impression
Gilles: WHAT THE FUCK WHAT THE FUCK OH SHIT OH SHIT THAT'S BAD--
Will: ..............yeah, okay, I want to deck him and that probably tracks
Jack: WHY IS JACK A BABEY-- oh. OH. BABEY.
Solomon: [brb incoherent screaming because Plot Reveal]
Nero: LMAO why does she look like Artoria?
Kid Gil: WHY IS GIL BABY WHY IS BABY GIL NICE WHAT IS HAPPENING WHAT IS HAPPENING HE'S SO CUTE AUGH
Abigail: I have Concerns about this girl and this chapter. CONCERNS. But also FUCK SHE'S ADORABLE
Impression now
Gilles: Die Bitch Die. I don't like him, does anyone? He's a fairly boring Saber and Caster? Oh, you know, the child murder and eldritch monsters and all that.
Will: I'm going to beat that man senseless (affectionate), what a genius (derogatory). I'll probably have more thoughts again after Apocrypha - jesus I have to finish that shit - but for now I'm gonna punch him.
Jack: AN ACTUAL MURDERBABY THAT IS MY CHILD, I LOVE HER, I LOVE HER SO MUCH.
Solomon: [incoherent screams turn into sobs] COME HOME
Nero: She's absolutely a delight! Her appearance will trick you into thinking she's a boring Saberface but no, she's wonderful, she's awful, she loves herself and is so confident, what a girl. What an emperor.
Kid Gil: Well that's the 10yo form of my Fate husband, of course I love him. I have...mixed feelings about him that I'll talk about later, but generally speaking I adore this little brat.
Abigail: DAUGHTER DAUGHTER ELDRITCH DAUGHTER I love her so much and I wish I could pull her but she's very rare and I have others to save for. She's still absolutely babey though and a good naughty girl.
Favorite moment
Gilles: NONE, DIE. But no in all seriousness, there's a bit in the Shimousa (or Salem?) manga where he talks to Dantes for a little, and that was actually kind of an interesting thing.
Will: None yet lmfao sorry bitch. Okay no wait, him and Hans fucking. Writing the Solomon and Sheba play while shitfaced ass drunk just to make us all suffer, but also thank you I love you that made my day even as I cried.
Jack: I REALLY NEED TO FUCKING FINISH APOCRYPHA. But in FGO, idk, she's just very sweet and baby in the events somehow and I love that all the time.
Solomon: IDK MAN THE REAL ONE WAS ONLY HERE FOR FIVE MINUTES BEFORE HE MCFUCKING DIED. I'm not counting that speech in Temple because it's too sad to be my favorite even if it was amazing. I'm cheating and pretending the Chaldean has at least a little of him in there and saying when he saves our ass from Kirsch that time in Atlantis and then is just like UGH DON'T LOOK AT ME at Fujimaru, like I AM LOOKING DISREPSECTFULLY SIR SORRY
Nero: She's a delight in Septem, but like, so many of her scenes in Extra slap extremely hard, I love her roast of Gawain especially, as does a lot of her my room scenes with Hakuno.
Kid Gil: Not gonna lie, I remember the scene in the Prisma*Illya manga where he absolutely mcfucking nukes someone for using Enkidu and I loved that very much.
Abigail: PANKEKI PANKEKI KURONEKO PANKEKI-- but also, her appearance in the Summercamp event was very sweet and funny.
Idea for a story
Gilles: I would not want to write a story about him XD but frankly, it might be interesting to explore the fact that we've more or less proven the child [redacted] and murder accusations were false, vs the evil psycho persona he's kinda shoved into by the Throne even so.
Will: FACE THE CONSEQUENCES OF YOUR ACTIONS AND TALK TO OBERON. But no, there could be some fun stuff with his NP if it does what I've heard it does in universe.
Jack: Babey Girl, go have some cute fun with your friends, have a nice day, no murder :)
Solomon: I WILL DRAG YOU HOME BY YOUR VOLUMINOUS HAIR YOU DUMB MAGE GET BACK HERE I AM BEGGING YOU. But also what if Certain People were discovered early is always fun.
Nero: I want to see her and the other Extra+CCC cast actually interact more, BB kind of cockblocked that in the SE.RA.PH Event lmao. Musings on Hakuno vs Fujimaru?
Kid Gil: Exploring the headcanons I'm gonna mention below, or maybe just let him maul his older self for once, that'd be hilarious.
Abigail: A Day in the Life of An Eldritch Child Wandering Around the Chthulu Mythos with Cats and Her Adopted Uncle.
Unpopular opinion
Gilles: .....idk man
Will: IS HE POPULAR? IS HE NOT? IS WANTING TO SUPLEX HIM INTO THE FLOOR POPULAR OR NOT IDK MAN
Jack: She looks FINE you guys.
Solomon: IDK? He's SO at least 50% of the Chaldean I'm CONVINCED OF THIS FACE OKAY, I'M COPING.
Nero: I'm not really sure? I hear some people aren't really a fan of her in FGO compared to Extra, but I think she's fine?
Kid Gil: I'm not sure if having mixed feelings about him is popular or not, to be honest?
Abigail: IDK XD
Favorite relationship
Gilles: N/A do not approach any Jeanne
Will: Him and Hans are fucking hysterical, to be honest, but I'd love interactions with him and Oberon. Just for the lols.
Jack: Her and the other littles in Chaldea and Amakusa is absolutely fucking precious.
Solomon: [lies down] Sheba....Fujimaru....Mash..........
Nero: Her and Hakuno to be quite fucking honest. But also her and Lizzie is hysterical.
Kid Gil: shrug emojis into the distance, actually
Abigail: Her and Lavinia, her and Fujimaru.
Favorite headcanon
Gilles: I do not think about him XD
Will: Hm....I'm not sure, I can't think of any XD He and Hans drunk write way too often for everyone's own good. Hans wouldn't even drunk, but Will MAYYYY be coerced into writing fanfic for people.
Jack: She really, really likes raspberry jam. Strawberry is also okay, but raspberry is her favorite. Put it on everything.
Solomon: UHHHHHHHHHH he's at least in part the Chaldean. He's not a generally good person as Solomon, he's very terse and grumpy. Let him live. He's tired.
Nero: Despite the whole Gilfest/Nerofest rivalry, Nero WILL hang out and drink with Gil sometimes, they get very loud and obnoxious (and they'll talk about Hakuno sometimes).
Kid Gil: This is implied in some My Room dialogue and probably in Hollow Ataraxia which I haven't read, but I do definitely double down on the idea that Kid Gil isn't actually what Gil was like as a child, but the what the Gil we know in the present day would be like if he were a child. That's Kid Gil, not Gil as a kid. And he's very aware of this, and he wonders quite a bit about what he was ACTUALLY like.
Abigail: In my 'verse, she is one of the only people aware of the fact that my Fujimaru is running in a reset timeline, as the first one was a terminal bad end my Fujimaru's little brother - the Master at the time - reset to let his sister have a try. She's extra protective of my Fujimaru for his sake, because Big Brother wouldn't want anything to happen to his big sister.

An Amnesia member of your choice for the ask game!
fuck it. chaos. i like his weird dog. little bit brief compared to the others because i don't have too many thoughts on him
overall opinion of them - pretentious gayboy. dog-haver. Nerd. what more do i need to say here
gender/sexuality headcanons - have you SEEN him and gord though that's literally not even a headcanon at this point
favourite moment in canon - the fact that like. immediately after he summons azhi dahaka, giant scary void monster thing, from this big ancient book he stole from the basement of a very notable and relatively ancient organization, his first instinct is to pet it and call it a good boy. amazing
favourite moment in a fanwork - have not read anything with him in it. sobs
favourite line - yeah same man
Tumblr media
characters i love seeing them interact with - honestly really enjoyed his interaction with seth, and i do really like how he acts towards merkava in merk's arcade route. also obviously any interactions he has with the general amnesia folks are spectacular (wish enkidu got a bit more screentime though. rip king)
headcanons about the last thing they do before they sleep - this may be absurdly predictable but he probably just likes to read before bed. absolute insomniac though he'll stay up for ages whether it's because he's worrying about whatever the hell hilda or gordeau are getting themselves into or if he's just invested in researching something (or just a particularly good novel)
sleeping habit headcanons - again, major insomniac. probably wakes up pretty early too? or just sleeps in constantly, probably claims that he thinks better at night or something like that. which is fair honestly. also probably mumbles or talks in his sleep. about what? i have no fuckin idea
headcanons about the first thing they do after waking up - notably, his usual hairstyle is...actually just a bedhead apparently. so i imagine he...doesn't pay much mind to any sort of morning routine. wakes up. caffeinates himself (he'd either like absolutely BLACK coffee or he'd love overly sweet lattes and stuff. i cant decide) and then gets to business. even if his business is just sitting there looking pretty. good for him
headcanons about their favourite place - obviously probably likes to hang around gordeau's bar, nice place to get a couple drinks and read quietly or to just chat with a mere buddy of his. that and also the library like thats where he just hangs out before he joins amnesia afaik

Cranberry - Firearms Education... Part 1
I had decided to stop over for a week in Valentine, to stock up on supplies before making my big trek north. Although I was eager to continue my search for the legendary Snow buck, I knew I needed provisions and my horse Enkidu, needed rest.
Tumblr media
During my stay, I couldn't help overhearing the locals talking excitedly about a new very large shipment of navy revolvers that was soon to arrive from Blackwater.
Tumblr media
I was familiar with the navy. It was a sturdy enough weapon - and I even owned one myself. But it didn't take long for me to realize that it was far inferior to my trusted LeMat.
Tumblr media
At first I chalked up the fervor to the novelty of the admittedly hard-hitting and comically large weapon. But as rumors of its stopping power and size began to run rampant, it got so that I couldn't walk three steps in town without hearing wildly inflated stories about this "amazing new ballistic marvel."
On the morning of my third day, I awoke early to commotion out in the street. I hastily threw on my nightgown, and opened the doors to the balcony so I could see what the disturbance was about. To my surprise, there was a long line of people stretching right down the main street.
Tumblr media
When I leaned out over the railing, I could see that it went from beyond the butcher's stall, around the front of my hotel, and all the way to Mr. Dalton's gun store!
One of the gentlemen in line looked up and saw me - I must have been quite a sight with my hair standing on end, wrapped in my nighty as I blinked against the bright morning sunlight. But he recognized me all the same.
Tumblr media
"CRANBERRY! Cranberry - get down here - FAST! I'll hold you a place in line - you don't want to miss it!"
I wasn't too surprised that he knew me. I had become rather well known to the locals after that awful incident with Montez. When his unruly band of outlaws tried to rescue him from prison, I was able to hold them off and save the town from destruction. Since that fateful day, I have had very good standing in town and a reputation as a capable if somewhat unlikely protector of the residents.
I immediately took the opportunity to find out what was happening (although I was fairly sure I knew), and shouted back down.
"Good morning! Thank you for your kind offer - but first - I must ask what is all this in aid of?"
Tumblr media
He shouted back swirling his battered Homberg over his head in an almost frantic wave as he pointed furiously towards the gun store.
"WHAT?! You don't know?! They're HERE! The navy revolvers have finally arrived!!! I've been in line since midnight and I'm sure as shi- uh... sure as sure can be - that is - that I'm going to get mine... Miss Cranberry!"
Then he turned back to his friends and excitedly fell into a serious discussion about purchasing crates of ammunition as they flipped through a battered copy of the Wheeler Rawson catalog.
I looked briefly to the sky for patience... not finding any there, I went back into my room and got ready.
Hysteria over this silly gun has gripped the entire town and turned it on its' head. Something needs to be done - and I think a little education is in order!
My mind was made up. I went to the sheriff's office. It was time I arranged for a town meeting where I would present the facts about the navy and make sure that the sensational aspects were put into proper perspective.
Finally, I decided that I would also take that opportunity to shine a light upon my personal favorite weapon - the versatile LeMat.
There is only one pistol that truly does it all - and that's the LeMat.
Tumblr media
(A close up view of my lovely LeMat revolver. No silly navy revolver could ever measure up to this functional work of art.)

Hello! Why do you think Carlisle likes Aro? (Love your meta btw!)
This blog lasted 25 days before becoming an Aro/Carlisle blog. The sanity was nice while it lasted, I suppose.
Oh well, I embrace my trash ship.
(Anon is referring to this post)
(This one is also relevant)
So, while on Aro’s end it was a case of “did the gods just give me my very own Enkidu?”, for Carlisle we must look at the circumstances. The Carlisle Cullen who walked into Volterra is not the Carlisle Cullen who works at Forks General.
Carlisle was a demon-hunting priest who brought his religion into his new life. Having no idea what he’d just become, apart from the obvious things like “I desperately want to kill people for their blood” and “I sparkle?!”, many of the things that are obvious to us would not be at all obvious to him. His only experience with other demons was the slum-dweller that killed him. It was brutal, and three other people from his parish were murdered as well. He’d been able to track the vampire down, something I can only take that to mean that the vampire used his parish for hunting grounds. He’s so horrified by what he’s become that he tries to destroy himself. This fails, and instead he finds a way out that lets him live without having to kill, and with that comes to the realization that vampires retain their souls (which is for another post).
My point being, Carlisle wakes up as a demon, and has no way of knowing how any of this works, nor of how to explain the fact that he is able to retain his soul. It’s telling that even after centuries of being a vampire he still thought something might be fundamentally different about him, as he chose to turn Edward by simulating his own transformation, even though it meant more pain for Edward. In other words, Carlisle was not guaranteed that his experience was universal. By the time we meet him in canon he’s wonderfully friendly to everybody regardless of what they eat, but I strongly doubt he got from point “Demons are monsters and I’ll rally a mob to lynch them!” to “Vampires are people who sadly eat other people.” right away.
So, you have freshly immortal Carlisle Cullen wandering around Europe with no way of knowing that other vampires are as (for lack of a better word) human as he is. How can they be, when they choose to eat people? (My personal headcanon is that he went by a Persephone theory, and figured that by resisting human blood he’d remained a man.)
It was this Carlisle who met Aro and the other Volturi. According to Edward (I unfortunately don’t have Twilight with me so I can’t quote his exact words), they were the ones who showed him that vampires can in fact be sophisticated.
Sophisticated. Not just as in Aro, Marcus, and Caius eat their virgins with some fava beans and a nice chianti, but as in they’re civilized and intelligent beings. Carlisle was no longer a one lone freak who somehow retained his soul while everyone else went full Buffy vampire, or any other such theory. I can’t even imagine the impact that must have had on a young Carlisle who would have been even lonelier than the Carlisle who found Edward in Chicago. That Carlisle at least had friends, this younger version had absolutely nobody.
Aro changed that.
More than being sophisticated, Aro turned out to be a kindred spirit, an absolutely brilliant mind and a generous host. Carlisle chose to live with him for decades, leaving only because of their dietary differences. And even if people disagree with me with all of the above, I don’t think anyone can argue that this one isn’t huge.
Of all the people Carlisle knows in canon, Aro is the only one he stayed with just for Aro’s own sake. Carlisle loves the Cullens dearly, but the cornerstone holding them together is their shared diet, and the fact that Carlisle turned four of them, the other two joined. He did not happen upon them and then like them so much that he decided to move in. As for his other friends, he cares for them all, but he didn’t share decades of his life with them.
Regardless of how we’re interpreting their relationship (as in, platonic, UST, or raging homosexual affair), I don’t think anyone can dispute that Carlisle and Aro are each other’s best friends.
But beyond proving that vampires aren’t all sewer-dwelling, priest-eating rascals, what exactly made Aro so special?
I’ll just list his qualities in no particular order.
Sophistication This guy is a lover of the arts and of knowledge. His gallery and library must have been the most extensive and diverse in the world, and it probably still is. I can’t even begin to imagine the wealth of knowledge and treasures that Aro must have collected over the years. If the Holy Grail exists within the world of Twilight, Aro has it. Where I’m headed with this, is that not only would Aro’s collection be the coolest thing ever to Carlisle, but also that this was a time when the number of books and an art collection was a sign of high class, of intellectualism, of all things fine and noble that was considered virtuous. Aro acts very much like wealthy European nobility, he even lives in Italy, the cultural epicenter of the Western world of old. He physically could not have been more impressive to Carlisle.
Kind of a continuation of the previous point: Aro is from Ancient Greece (well, he’s Myceanaean, but same difference to a “You predate Homer?!” starstruck Carlisle). Ancient Greece was the ultimate, perfect, civilization to Europe, and Carlisle got to Volterra just ahead of the Enlightenment. This alone would have made him so unbelievably cool to Carlisle.
Nerd I think this one speaks for itself. Carlisle is an unbelievable nerd, an inquisitive mind who’ll study anything and everything, and in Aro he found someone who also has an inquisitive mind and will study anything and everything. They’re both very intelligent. Carlisle went from being that sad whale that sings on a frequency no other whales can hear, to having someone who just got it.
His gift So you’re all gonna have to stay with me on this one. Aro’s gift is one most people would find very invasive, which as I touched upon in one of the posts linked above must be very isolating. And yet we know from canon that Carlisle has no problem at all with Edward reading his mind all the time, and more, if Aro reading his mind was a problem then Aro and Marcus would both have known, and I doubt their friendship would have worked out. So, I think that Carlisle not only didn’t mind having his every thought read, but that this was an actively good thing. Because what is less lonely than the company of one who knows you as intimately as you know yourself? To be friends with Aro is to be truly understood, known more deeply than anyone else can ever know you. And to someone who seeks companionship as much as Carlisle does, I imagine this is an extremely attractive feature.
Offer of friendship Carlisle would have been hopelessly lonely when he met Aro. And as no one else is mentioned as being close to him, Jane hadn’t even met him which I find pretty telling of how he interacted (or didn’t interact) with the Guard, and he wouldn’t yet have any of his other friends that he later made, he only had Aro.
He enforcers a law that keeps the known world from descending into chaos Human civilization wouldn’t last a day without the Volturi. There would be nothing stopping vampires from taking out entire villages in one go, immortal children would be everywhere, and the newborn armies would spread like wildfire. In the world of Twilight, the Volturi are a necessary evil. And Aro is their leader. The fact that he not only keeps the world together, an ungrateful task with no end in sight, but had the idea to create a law in the first place would make him all the more amazing to Carlisle.
And I’m sure there’s more that is currently slipping my mind.
Just, Aro is on every level the most impressive, awe-inspiring, and dare I say dazzling, that anyone can be to Carlisle. And he came into Carlisle’s life at the best possible moment. If he’d agreed to do the animal diet, Carlisle would have stayed. If he wanted to seduce Carlisle, I think he’d succeed. I also think that their time together was far more formative for the person Carlisle became than anyone gives Aro credit for.
(And if Carlisle had never found anyone who’d share the diet, he would eventually have returned. I imagine Aro thought the same, but that’s for another post.)
Oh, and last bit - in Breaking Dawn we get this beautiful moment where Carlisle learns that Aro robbed the British royal family, and he just goes, “yup, that’s my guy”. Even after Eclipse, he remains fond of Aro. I mean, there’s also the fact that he’s been lugging around this giant painting for centuries, even at a time when he didn’t have a house and I can only speculate as to where he was keeping it.
Of course, over the course of Eclipse and Breaking Dawn everything goes to hell, but that’s for another post.
TL;DR, Carlisle went from a priest’s son to living with an evil vampire overlord for decades because he’s just that great, in the present he keeps a giant painting of him in his office. I feel it’s safe to assume he likes the man.
(Edited on the 13th of April to fix some phrasing and add a link)

Brain waves making fingers type out thoughts woooOoOOoooOoooO~
After defeating Demeter, we’re heading off to summon a Grand Servant! ✨
Tumblr media
Caligula appears!!!
So far the actual biggest surprise is Caligula talking without his madness enhancement! Even when you’re forced to use him in a battle he also talks when selected on cards!!
Side note: I really enjoy it when Caenis comes up and his sprite blushes. So cute 🥰
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What the fuck was this……I mean I saw video spoilers of it but I didn’t expect to fight this cool boss so early–?!?! I thought it was an event boss or something!!
Somehow I did it in the first try, lucky me(??!?!?) I did my best to prepare because let me tell you when I saw that six-eyed face appear I just knew I was gonna be in some deep shit (turns out I worried for nothing lol Asclepius, support Merlin & my lvl. 100 Enkidu did it!! Along with Avicebron at the beginning!!🎉🎉🎊🎊🥳)
The boss fight was so cool and the music rocks ✨
Kinda wished I recorded myself beating it cause even I‘m amazed at myself
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Done in 1st try ✨ They were right about this being easier than Demeter lol. I liked the giant robot support in the background, that was cool
The final fight of the Dioscuris were easier than I had initially thought, and I beat them up in the first try lol (All except it made me use my command spells because of my miscalculations of Robin’s third skill) If they ever somehow come home, I hope I’ll learn to like them
(Ugh this post is taking way long than I thought to make out so I’ll summarize what happened)
So Kadoc might be fucking dead or not maybe who knows, the clown did it but Pepe comes in and shanks the clown to his last life! It’s what that jester deserves anyways.
Fought Europa who turned out to the secret collaborator and then we’re heading off the defeat Zeus!! (He looks ugly but does give an imposing presence)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ares/Mars from proper human history is here to help us to tight against Zeus! He looks cool!! ✨
We’re gonna summon a grand servant in the mist of the final battle of the gods!! (I already know who it is due to spoilers tho :,)
Next post might be the last for this Lostbelt No. 5!! Sure fucking hope I won’t get too emotional haha!!

(last but not the least. Do you know why I specifically choose fics with less than 400 kudos? Because they are fucking amazing and it's ridiculous they don't have something like 2k kudos while they deserve so much more recognition. So PLEASE for the love of god, if you're gonna read these fics and if you'll love them (and you'll probably love them) tell the authors! Smash that kudos button, leave a comment, send them heart emojis, share those fics and don't let them die in the dust!)
Share this post for a better world ❤️

Hello! I was just wondering if you were planning/watched fate strange fake and some of your thoughts on it. Tbh whenever i see gil i get reminded of your account haha ! Hope you have a wonderful day too!
Thank you so much!
Hm, while I have sort of mixed feelings on Strange Fake as a whole, I'm going to break down things I liked and didn't.
On the positive side. GIL. Oh my goodness Gil. It's so good to see you animated again! While it's only been a while since Babylonia, It's always fun to see Gilgamesh in full armor being...well...Gilgamesh. And we have the interesting dynamic between him and a Master that while he doesn't respect (she's a literal child) he also doesn't despise her. And I think that one of the reasons he planned to drink the youth potion was that while he wasn't interested, his younger self has some concept of duty, and HE could deal with this mess.
Seeing Enkidu is also a joy, particularly since it's nice to see how these two interact and relate to one another. It's an interesting mention that Enkidu has trouble distinguishing between life forms. I'm not sure what I'd do with that, if anything, but I sort of plan to keep it at the back of my mind.
The battle is also amazing. You can see where the budget went, as it should. This is a clash of powers from the dawn of history. It had BETTER be spectacular, and they really went all out. I am interested in Enkidu's connection with flowers for...reasons... What's even funnier is that this was legit their saying 'hello'. I'm not sure if they were even planning to really fight.
Also, on other characters FLAT. Flat looks great. And I sort of like that his animation was slightly more...cartoony than everyone else. And he sort of works with Jack given how serious Jack is. Also the Pale Rider, what little we see, was amazing,
On the more negative side, the animation feels...rough. I might be in the minority, but I don't really like the style of FSF. It just feels...sketchy to me. Like the animation staff needed a little more time.
I...dislike Dumas' design greatly. Enough said.
I'm a little disappointed we didn't see more of Richard. I like how they did Richard.
All in all, it was a good adaptation, and it was great to see it. I...am not surprised if they don't continue since the story isn't finished and honestly FSF's plot is...a mess. As is, they got the best part of the start, and people who haven't read the LN or manga might check it out now that they have the chance.
Hope you have a great day and thanks for asking!

Fate and Phantasms #143: Enkidu
Tumblr media
Today on Fate and Phantasms we’re forging the Chains of Heaven and world-famous actor best known for their part in the 1990 smash hit Ghost (they were the pottery), Enkidu!
Our fair enby is a Monster Slayer Ranger, mixing in their anti-divine properties, self healing, and ability to sense movement through the earth around them. And that’s it. I know, I was surprised too.
Check out their build breakdown below the cut, or their character sheet over here!
Next up: If you haven’t watched No Evil yet, you should.
Race and Background
You’re made out of clay and have a lot of robot tropes slapped onto you, so Warforged is a pretty good pick for you. This gives you +2 Constitution and +1 Wisdom, as well as Constructed Resilience. This gives you  advantage and resistance to poison, and you don’t need to eat, breathe, drink, or sleep. You’re also immune to disease.
To supplement the whole “not sleeping” thing, you instead take a Sentry’s Rest, standing still and conscious for 6 hours instead of sleeping over a long rest.
You look like you’re not wearing armor, but that might just be because of the robe. Regardless of your stance on putting Enkidu in armor, they still get Integrated Protection anyway, giving you +1 AC, and making your armor unremovable if you’re not incapacitated. This also means it takes an hour to put on and take off, but y’know, checks and balances.
Finally, your Specialized Design gives you proficiency with one skill of your choice. You were made by the gods, so it might be a good idea to remember their names. Religion it is!
Thanks to hanging out in the woods for a while after being made you’re an Outlander. This gives you proficiency with Athletics and Survival.
Ability Scores
Since Enkidu’s stats are literally described in terms of point buy, we’re going with that too. You’ll want your Wisdom as high as possible at 15 for the sharpest senses points can buy. We need to be able to speak to animals and sense vibrations through the earth, dammit! After that is Strength set to 14... and I just realized that despite going with point buy I ended up with a stat array identical to the standard array. Oh well. Anyway, strength is next, gotta hold together when you’re locking gods in place. After that is Intelligence (13), you’ve got a perfect memory and you’re great at adapting to change. Your Dexterity (12) isn’t amazing, but your body’s tough enough to deal with issues. Your Constitution’s (10) even lower, but it gets bumped up with your racial bonus. Finally, dump Charisma(8). You have a lot of issues when it comes to understanding other people.
Class Levels
1. Starting out as a ranger gives you proficiency in Strength and Dexterity saves, as well as three ranger skills. Animal Handling will help you get along better with your master, while Investigation and Perception make finding new information to digest a lot easier.
You also make celestials your Favored Enemy, giving you advantage on survival and intelligence checks about them. It’s a shame this doesn’t enhance your magic against them, but we’ll take what we can get. You’re also a Deft Explorer, making you Canny with one skill, doubling its proficiency bonus. Double down on Perception for an even stronger radar sense.
2. Second level rangers get a fighting style, and Blind Fighting lets you feels through your feets, sensing any creatures within 10′ of you as long as they aren’t specifically hiding from you. You can also cast Spells now, using your Wisdom to do so.
Cure Wounds is a good way to get your healing factor started early, and Hunter’s Mark is effectively mandatory for rangers. Deal more damage when you hit the thing and track said thing easier.
3. Joining the Monster Slayer conclave sets you down the path a turn against your creators and chain the heavens. (This also works for bunch of other types of creatures, but hush.) Your Monster Slayer Magic gives you a bonus spell each time you reach a new spell level. Right now you get Protection from Evil and Good, which forces disadvantage on extraplanar creatures attacking them, and makes it so they can’t be charmed, frightened, or possessed by them. Fighting gods would be a lot harder if they could just assume manual control, wouldn’t it?
You also get a Hunter’s Sense, letting you spend an action to learn a creature’s damage immunities, resistances, and vulnerabilities. Despite what FGO has taught you, taking down Godmode Ishtar will be harder than slapping every lancer you have into a team and hitting red buttons.
Your last Slayer bonus for now is the Slayer’s Prey, a bonus action to tack on even more extra damage to your first weapon attack against a designated creature each turn. You can only keep it up on a single creature at a time though.
That’s not all, though! You also get Primal Awareness, giving you even more spells when your magic levels up, and you can cast these spells once per long rest without using a spell slot (or whenever if you use a slot, like duh). Right now you get Speak with Animals. I don’t know why your master is a wolf, but you make it work.
Finally, the spell you normally learn at this level is Ensnaring Strike. You go Enkidu! Ensnare those strucken enemies!
4. Your first Ability Score Improvement is going towards Strength so you can stab things deader.
5. Fifth level rangers can make an Extra Attack as part of their attack action. You also get a bunch more spells.
From your subclass, Zone of Truth. Force a charisma save (dc 8+proficiency+wis) against creatures in the zone, and if they fail they can’t lie. It’s not really in character, but it is neat.
Primal Awareness gives you Beast Sense, letting you see and hear through a beast’s... senses... (hence the name) for up to an hour. This one’s a bit closer.
Your normal spell for the level is Barkskin, giving you a minimum AC of 16 for up to an hour. It’s not ideal since it’s a concentration spell, but it’s there if you want to be a stickler about not wearing armor.
6. At sixth level you can apply your Favored Enemy feature to Beasts as well. I don’t think Enkidu’s one to hold a grudge, but I doubt they like snakes much by this point. You also become Roving, adding 5 feet to your movement speed, and giving you a climbing and swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
7. Your next slayer goody is a Supernatural Defense, which adds 1d6 to your saves and grapple escape rolls against a creature you stuck your Slayer’s Prey on.
To further increase your adaptability, you learn the spell Enhance Ability this level, giving you advantage on any one kind of skill check for the duration.
8. Use this ASI to bump up your Wisdom for stronger spells and senses. You also become Fleet of Foot, letting you pass through difficult terrain without extra movement. You also ignore nonmagical plants when moving through them, and have advantage on moving through magical plants.
9. Another spell level up, another massive burst in how many spells you can use.
Thanks to being a slayer you learn Magic Circle, letting you trap an extraplanar creature either inside or outside of a 10′ radius circle. It’s... almost the chains of heaven, but there’s still some leeway in there.
You can also Speak with Plants thanks to your Primal Awareness. This one’s more of a stretch, but it’s part and parcel of speaking with animals now, so have at it.
Finally, the spell you learn by choice is Meld into Stone, giving you the perfect hiding spot for up to 8 hours. You are clay after all, this really isn’t much of an issue for you.
10. Tenth level rangers are Tireless, giving you a nonmagical healing factor you can activate as an action, and your exhaustion levels get reduced on short rests now too.
You can also shapeshift into Nature’s Veil, effectively making yourself invisible for a round as a bonus action.
11. Eleventh level slayers are a Magic-User’s Nemesis, letting you react to a creature casting a spell or teleporting nearby to foil it. The creature has to make a wisdom save against your spell save DC or waste its spell/teleport. Gods tend to cheat, and the easiest way out of chains is teleportation. Don’t let them do that. You can use this feature once per short rest.
You also learn the spell Healing Spirit for another long-term healing solution. It does require you staying put for a bit, but you can always meld into stone first if you really wanna.
12. We generally front-load feats, but there’s never a bad time for a Keen Mind. This feat rounds up your Intelligence, you always have a good sense of direction and time, and most importantly you have perfect memory for up to a month. Your memories are literally carved into your being, they’re hard to get rid of.
13. Thirteenth level rangers get fourth level spells, and you get three of them!
From the slayers: Banishment lets you force another creature back to its own plane. That’s literally the opposite of the chains of heaven, but it might be the best option for something like Tiamat.
From Primal Awareness: Locate Creature helps you keep tabs on a creature within 1000 feet of you. Gods are notoriously tricksy shapeshifters. This will help deal with that a bit.
You also become a Guardian of Nature, letting you transform yourself for up to a minute in one of two ways. As a primal beast, you can move faster, get darkvision, have advantage on strength-based attacks, and deal extra damage on a hit. As a great tree, you gain temporary HP, make constitution saves and dexterity/wisdom based attacks with advantage, and the ground within 15′ of you is difficult terrain for enemies. I’d say the former is more useful, but the latter also has its charms.
14. Your last Favored Enemy are Aasimar and Genasi, so you can be just as effective against demigods as you are against their full-blooded family. You also learn how to Vanish, letting you hide as a bonus action. You also can’t be tracked unless you choose to be or it’s done magically.
15. Your penultimate goody from the slayer’s conclave is a Slayer’s Counter. If a creature you’ve hit with the Slayer’s Prey tried to force a save on you, you can use your reaction to make an attack against it. If it hits, your save automatically succeeds. We might not be able to make all your saves good, but we can make it so you can ignore them entirely.
To protect you from physical attacks, you learn Stoneskin this level, giving you resistance to physical damage types while it’s up. Your skin is literally made out of clay, so it tracks.
16. Use this ASI to bump your Strength up more for stronger attacks and a better chance of your Slayer’s Counter connecting.
17. At seventeenth level you finally gain fifth level spells!
Your spell of choice is Greater Restoration, so you can remove all those debuffs from yourself.
Your final goody from your Primal Awareness is Commune with Nature. Now you can become one with the great outdoors and learn three facts about the area around you, up to a 3 mile radius. You can pick from: terrain and bodies of water, prevalent plants, minerals, animals, or people, powerful extraplanar entities, influences from those planes, or buildings.
Last but not least, your ultimate Slayer spell is your Chain of Heaven, Hold Monster. Force a wisdom save on a creature to paralyze it until it makes one on the end of its turn or up to a minute. No shunting it off to another dimension, no giving it space to wander around, just good old sit the fuck down.
18. At eighteenth level you gain Feral Senses, effectively giving you blindsight out to 30 feet. This renders Blind Fighting completely useless, but don’t worry about it.
19. For your last ASI, max out your Wisdom for the strongest spells, the strongest senses, and the strongest counterspells you can get. Also, in what I think is a first for this blog, you’re going to use Martial Versatility to switch out that useless Blind Fighting for something scarier, like Dueling. Your chains are pretty light if you’re trying to keep your human form, so I’d call them one-handed weapons.
If you want to launch those suckers for some distance though, I can’t recommend Conjure Volley enough. Get this, it conjures... a volley of projectiles, throwing them all over the place for damage.
20. The capstone ranger feature is the Foe Slayer, letting you add your wisdom to an attack or damage roll against your favored enemies once per round. It’s honestly underwhelming, but extra damage is extra damage.
Pros:
Thanks to blindsight and your obscenely high perception, you’re hard to sneak up on. Also, you don’t sleep, so you’re the perfect guard for a party on the run.
You’re a tireless ranger with a lot of healing spells to burn through, which makes you pretty self-sufficient if you need to go off on your own. You don’t need another person to take watch, and you don’t need another person to lug around healing potions!
You have a lot of ways to lock down enemies, ensnaring them in place for future attacks or escapes. This is especially true of extraplanar creatures, but Hold Monster works on literally anything, especially with your maxed out wisdom.
Cons:
We weren’t able to invest much in Dexterity, meaning your AC can be a problem if you’re playing to character. Barkskin uses your concentration, and wearing medium armor isn’t super flavorful.
Speaking of, like most rangers you have problems with Concentration. Your con saves aren’t great, and you have a lot of spells vying for the same position.
While you can do consistent, decent damage, it’s damage that takes time to ramp up. You need a turn for hunter’s mark and a different turn for slayer’s prey, and that’s assuming HM stays up the entire time.

The proposal
Popping the question
After finally finishing up the china Lostbelt, and being cleared by nightingale to leave the infirmary after being injured by Yu Mei Ren, it's time for Rex to ask a goddess to marry him.
Me: *knocks on CasGil's door* oh great King of heroes, could you please lend me some assistance?
CasGil: *opening the door* what is it mongrel? Also don't speak like that, it doesn't suit you.
Me: can I ask for something from your treasury?
CasGil: *kinda offended* now why should I give you anything from my treasury mongrel?
Me: I want to propose to Quetzalcoatl and I need a ring worthy enough for such an amazing goddess, and only something from your treasury could fit.
CasGil: oh! You're going to propose to that Goddess? Very interesting, but I still don't see why I should assist you. She's the kind who'd be happy with a cheap ring, the proposal would matter the most.
Me: ok yeah, but she still deserves way better. You could atleast think of it as thanks for the 2 of us helping defend Uruk from Tiamat. And also getting you out of Kur. Besides, wouldn't end up back in your treasury eventually anyway.... somehow
CasGil: hmmm, now you make a good point mongrel. Fine! But I also ask for front row seating at the wedding!
Me: done!
CasGil: alright! *opens a gate of babylon, a fuckton of rings pour out* now make your selection!
Me: *kinda annoyed* ok then
*after a long ass time looking for a good one*
Me: mmmkay, I think this one's good.
*in Rex's hand he holds a beautiful golden ring with a green gemstone in the center*
CasGil: made your choice? Then go! Make that Goddess your bride!
Me: *running to find her* thanks King!
Enkidu: *appears out of Gil's room* you know you're a lot softer then you realize.
CasGil: I do not know what you mean. Just repayment for Uruk
*in my room*
Me: it's kinda nerve-wracking! I don't want to do it in front of others, who knows what'll happen! *starts thinking* 💡 I got it!
Me: *calling a servant for assistance* hey Semiramis, can I borrow one of your doves?
Semiramis: what for?
Me: kind of secret for now, just want to send a message to a servant!
Semiramis: you can't call them? Like you're calling me now?
Me: this has to be special!
Semiramis: fine!
*dove appears in my room*
Me: alright lil buddy, you're gonna help me
*dove goes towards Quetz*
Me: now to make sure no one ruins it
Me: hey King Hassan!
King Hassan: *appears from blue fire* what is it contractor?
Me: *spooked* fuck! Please don't surprise me. *calm again* I need you to guard my room and don't let anyone but Quetz in! OK?
King Hassan: understood
Me: thanks *goes back in*
*later*
*Raikou comes down the hall*
Raikou: ara? King Hassan? What are you doing outside my dear child's room?
King Hassan: the contractor has asked me to remain guard
Raikou: oh my, whatever for?
King Hassan: that I do now know, but I shall perform my duty regardless.
Raikou: well if you could let me in for a little I could-
King Hassan: that I cannot allow
Raikou: why not?!
King Hassan: thy contractor has requested that none shall enter, save for the sun goddess that thy contractor is infatuated with.
Raikou: *putting 2 and 2 together* oh! Well in that case, I understand. I shall take my leave
King Hassan: very well
*later on*
*Quetz finally comes around*
Quetz: Hola 1st Hassan!
King Hassan: greetings
Quetz: I got a message that master wanted to see me?
King Hassan: he does *moves aside*
Quetz: did he ask you to guard the room?
King Hassan: indeed he did
Quetz: huh, ok then *goes into room*
Quetz: master? You wanted to see me?
Me: *nervous* uuuuhhh, yeah I did.
Quetz: is everything OK?
Me: y-y-yeah, it's just, I have a very important question to ask you
Quetz: what is it?
Me: *shaking* u-u-um, w-w-well
Quetz: what is it master? Are you sure you're able to ask?
Me: yeah I'm sure! This just very nerve-wracking is all.
Me: *deep breathes* ok, here goes nothing *going down on one knee*
Quetz: !!!!???
Me: *pulls out box ring* Quetzalcoatl *opens box to reveal ring* w-w-w-will you marry me?
Quetz: *tearing up* oh master! Yes! Yes I will! *hugs me so hard* you've made me the happiest goddess in the world!
Me: and I'm the happiest man right now! I'm ready to spend the rest of my life with you!
Quetz: me too darling! *kisses me* muwaaaaah! I can't believe this is happening! You've made me so happy! I can't wait for the wedding! We need to start planning!
Me: you never actually put on the ring
Quetz: oh right! *puts it on* this is the best day of my life! I need to tell the other goddesses! *picks me up again* let's go share the news Darling!
Me: now?!
Quetz: of course now! I can't hold my excitement I'm! I'm going to burst with happiness!
*the two leave, to go share the news*
And that's how it goes, going to do more things relating to the wedding, partly to contrast with yesterday's angst and for something else...
Tagging @panyum but also @gxymlky and @grievouslyxorvia because I want to tag more mastersona bloggers in these and they seem cool atleast
