I’m gonna be honest. I still think that the Prince Hans reveal in Frozen worked. It was a brilliant twist on the usual Disney story with huge impact… and then they just… kept doing it. And it retroactively turned a brilliant story choice into just the first in a long line of worse versions of the same thing. I really just hate that Disney ruined something that I do think genuinely worked.

Frozen
Tumblr media
Pairing: Steve Rogers X Fem!Reader
Words: 1624
Warnings: Just tooth rotting fluff and a kid with a big mouth.
Summary: Fluff. Your niece is spending the night at the tower and the two of you take over the movie room for a Frozen marathon.
Tumblr media
“Hey Carley.” You greet your best friend as you pick up your phone.
“Hey sweetie. I have a huge favor to ask you.” Carley sounds nervous.
“Okay. What’s up?” You ask.
“Nina was supposed to spend the night with a friend but she’s got a virus and now Nina can’t go and she’s heartbroken. And… and I was supposed to have Nick over for dinner and some alone time tonight. Is there… I’m sorry, but is there any way she can spend the night with you? I know I’m asking a lot.” Carley was practically babbling. Nina is her 5 year old daughter and your “niece” whom you adore.
“Hang on a second. Lemme check into it.” You had been heading for the common room in order to get some lunch and you were glad to find Steve and Bucky there. “Steve, Bucky, hey, would anyone have a problem if my five year old niece, Nina, spent the night and we took over the movie room?”
“You have a niece?” Bucky asks.
“She’s my best friend’s daughter.” You say.
“I don’t see that being a problem.” Steve smiles at you while Bucky nods.
“Thanks, guys. Hey Carley. Yeah, I can do it. Lemme talk to her… Hey Ninabug!”
“Hey Aunt Y/N. I was supposed to spend the night with my friend but now I can’t!” Nina sounds on the verge of crying.
“I’m so sorry, Ninabug! But I was hoping you could come spend the night with me at the tower. We can get pizza and popcorn and candy and take over the movie room to watch Frozen. How does that sound?”
“Can we watch Frozen and Frozen 2?” Nina asks.
“Yeah! I love Frozen 2.”
“Will I get to meet Captain America?” She asks.
You glance over at Steve and bite your lip. “Um, I can’t promise that but I’ll ask, okay?”
“He’s my favorite.” Nina says.
“Yeah, I know. Mine, too.” You smile and glance over at the guys sitting at the table. “I’ll pick you up at 4, okay? Lemme talk to mom.” You got back on the phone with Carley and cement plans.
After getting off the phone, you nervously walk back over to Steve, “Hey, um, Nina is a big fan of yours. She would love to meet you. She even has a Captain America stuffie that she sleeps with. Would you mind?”
“Uh, no, no, of course not. I’d be happy to meet her.” Steve says.
“Great! Thanks, Steve. See you guys later.” You are grinning widely as you leave.
---
“She didn’t realize we could hear both sides of her conversation, did she?” Bucky smirks as Steve.
“She’s just agreeing with her niece to make her happy.” Steve rolls his eyes.
“You’ve had a crush on her since she got here. Now, you know she feels the same.” Bucky winks.
“Her saying that doesn’t confirm anything.” Steve grouses.
“The smile she had when she said it does.” Bucky elbows him. “Take a chance.”
Steve narrows his eyes at his friend, “Maybe.”
---
A quick trip to the grocery to get Nina’s favorite snacks and drinks, a sweep of your room to clean up, and it’s time to go get her. Nina is beyond excited She chatters the entire drive to the tower. You put her things in your bedroom and change her into her Frozen nightgown and slippers. She’s clutching her Captain America stuffie as you head to the movie room.
“I’m going to order our pizza.” You say to Nina as you pull out your phone.
“Don’t!” Comes from behind you. You turn to see Steve.
“Hey! What do you mean?” You ask.
“I, uh, I already took care of it.” He gives you a breathtaking smile and then kneels down to get on Nina’s level. “Hi Nina. I’m Steve.”
“You’re Captain America!” Nina says.
“That’s right. It’s nice to meet you.” He smiles at her. “I heard you were watching Frozen. I haven’t seen it yet. Would you mind if I join you?”
“Really?” Nina grins. “Did you hear that, Aunt Y/N? Captain wants to watch the movie with us!”
“Yeah. That’s really sweet of you, Steve.” You say as he stands to his full height.
“You don’t mind, do you?” He whispers.
“No, of course not.” You smile.
“Come on. I have a surprise.” Steve takes your’s and Nina’s hands and guides you all to the movie room.
When you enter, your mouth drops. Spread across the coffee table is a buffet of pizza, popcorn, and assorted cups and bowls with the snacks you had purchased along with a selection of drinks. The couch in front of it is covered in blankets and pillows including some hanging from the ceiling creating a fort.
“Wow!” Nina screeches. “A blanket fort! Look at all the food! Candy!”
“Steve! This is amazing!” You look at him and he is grinning at you.
“You like it?” He asks.
“I love it! This is so sweet. Nina will never forget this. Thank you.” You hug him, but quickly let go. “Sorry.” You say as your cheeks stain pink.
“Hey, I don’t mind.” He smiles and moves to turn on the movie.
Nina is bouncing on the couch. You go over to her. “Okay, young lady, we don’t jump on the furniture. Let’s eat, okay?”
“Okay!” Nina says as the movie starts. She eats, occasionally sneaking a piece of candy, and becomes enthralled in the movie almost immediately.
Nina is singing and dancing around to the songs when “Let It Go” comes on, “Aunt Y/N, I’m Anna and you’re Elsa, remember? You have to sing the song!”
You sing along all the while very aware of Steve next to you. When the song is over Steve is grinning at you. “I didn’t know you could sing.”
You put a hand on your face, laughing and embarrassed. “I can hold my own. Just wait, she’s gonna expect you to play Kristoff.”
True to form, when Kristoff sings, Nina runs to Steve to beg him to sing. Unfortunately, Steve doesn’t know the words but he dances around with Nina which makes her happy. The three of you laugh, sing, and dance through Frozen and Frozen 2. Nina is exhausted by the end of it.
“Alright, Ninabug. Let’s go brush those teeth and I’ll sing you to sleep.” You say.
“Do I have to? Can we watch it again?” She begs.
“Not tonight. Tell Steve good night.” You say.
“Good night, Captain!” Nina says looking up at her hero while clutching her stuffie.
“Good night, my best girl.” He says squatting down to peck a kiss on her cheek.
“I’ll clean all this up after she’s asleep. Thanks again, Steve.” You smile at him and he smiles back warmly. As you lead Nina back to your room, you wonder at Steve’s actions tonight. You’d had a crush on the supersoldier since you’d met him, but you were just an agent. There’s no reason for him to feel the same. Nina’s teeth are brushed and she’s sound asleep before you get through the second round of “All is Found.”
You head back to the movie room to clean up the mess. Steve is still there pouring the snacks back into their packages with the credits playing in the background.
“Oh, Steve, I’ll clean this up. It was so sweet of you to do all of this.” You insist.
“I don’t mind.” Steve says.
You reach to grab some of the snacks but Steve’s hand takes your own and he spins you before pulling you into his arms.
“What are you doing?” You laugh.
“Dance with me?” He asks.
You nod looking up at him, swaying to the music playing against the credits.
“Why did you do all this?” You work up the courage to ask him.
He smiles down at you with a blush across his cheeks, “Thought I should prove myself as your favorite.”
“Oh, God, you heard that?” You blush furiously.
“Supersoldier hearing.” He chuckles.
“That’s so embarrassing.” You say.
“I’m sorry, but I was glad I heard it. You’re my favorite, too.” He smiles down at you.
Your brow furrows at his admission. “Me?”
“You.” He leans in and your lips meet. It’s a soft kiss and he pulls back after just a few seconds.
You stare at him in shock for a moment. Then, putting your hands into his hair, you pull him down for a more thorough kiss. He complies immediately and his tongue darts out requesting entry. You open to him and he explores your mouth, pulling you flush against him.
“Aunt Y/N, are you gonna marry him?” Nina’s voice breaks through your kiss induced haze.
You separate from Steve quickly. “Nina! You’re supposed to be in bed.”
“I woke up and you weren’t there.” Nina whines.
“I was cleaning up our mess.” You say.
“No, you weren’t. You were kissing Captain America. That means you’re getting married, right? Anna kisses Kristoff and they’re getting married.” Nina says.
“N-no, Nina. We’re not getting married.” You chuckle and can’t look at Steve. “Come on, kiddo. Back to bed.” You take her hand.
“Wait, Nina.” Steve says. “I need your help.”
“What can I do, Captain?” She says wide-eyed.
“Convince your aunt she should go on a date with me.” Steve smirks up at you.
“She’ll go with you. She told mommy you were the hottest man alive.” Nina says with childlike innocence.
“Nina!” You cover your face with both hands
“Well, she’s the most beautiful woman alive, so I guess we were made for each other.” Steve smiles up at you. “Tomorrow night?”
“Tomorrow night.” You nod with a smile before leading Nina back to your room.

My opinion on West Side Story (warning: spoilers)
Hello fellow fiction obsessed beings,
So recently I’ve been obsessed with West Side Story. To clarify, I mean the version from 2021. And let me tell you that I didn’t expect to be, cause I’m not the type to love romantic movies, unless it’s Disney. Especially not the ones where the main character pulls an Anna from Frozen. But this movie still intrigued me, let me tell you why.
First of all, the music and dancing was amazing. Especially Anita, with her iconic yellow dress was something that I personally loved, during their performance of the song: America.
Second of all, the story itself. Even if you aren’t a big fan of romantic movies, the movie is still amazing. This is because, beside the romance between Maria and Tony, there is also the other big plotline where the Jets and the Sharks are having this “war”. Because yes, you could argue that Maria and Tony their forbidden relationship caused everything to escalate, but personally I think it was just a matter of time, before things got bad. Both of the groups hated each other and did everything to annoy each other. Maria and Tony were just another reason for the groups to get annoyed with each other.
Third of all, the dark ending. Even though I hate it, in a good way. I didn’t expect it. Since these kinda movies in a way remind me of Disney, I expected that there would be a more happy ending to it. But nope, after the rumble, stuff gets really dark. The leaders of both groups die, first Riff gets killed by Bernardo, and then Tony kills Bernardo in return for killing his best friend. A.k.a. you could say that that escalated quickly. Then we get an emotional and heavy song between Anita and Maria, since Anita just lost the love of her life, because of Maria her boyfriend. Needless to say, I cried. However, even though Anita is sad and mad, she is still willing to help Maria deliver a message to Valentina. Eventually she lied, which I was disappointed about, but I do understand why she lied, especially after what the Jets did to her. At that point the only person from the Jets that I still respect is Anybodys, he’s awesome throughout the whole movie. I’m not including Tony here, cause although I do respect him, I do think he wasn’t really a part of the Jets anymore, but he stayed around at the moments they needed him, cause he cared about Riff. And I respect him too for being one of the only people who included Anybodys.
Okay, so there is a lot I do like, but I also have some stuff that I don’t like. Or well, just made me yell at my screen. One of which is Maria and Tony their toxic relationship. Yes, many people will argue that their relationship was adorable and that they want a partner like that. But even though it’s good that they loved each other unconditionally, THEY ONLY KNEW EACH OTHER FOR 5 MINUTES AND ALREADY FELL IN LOVE. Maybe I’m too aromantic to understand this, but like Elsa once said: “You can’t marry a man you just met.” And especially not die for a person you just met. Don’t get me wrong, grieving is normal, some people get into a depression, normal too, that’s all valid, but this went beyond that. Maria and Tony were way to dependent on each other. They both had a void inside them, that they wanted to fill with love from someone they just met. And yes, I understand this is just a movie with a message. But my concern is that people tend to ignore the toxic, and think it is romantic. Although, to each their own. I personally ship two guys where one tried to kill the other in an interrogation room, so who am I to judge?
Anyways, this blog became longer than I expected it to be, since I just ended up ranting about this movie. Don’t get me wrong though, I still love the movie.
If you also have some opinions about the movie, don’t be afraid to share them in the comments.

oKAY BUT AVATAR FROZEN AU (ft. Zukka)
I was listening to Frozen on Broadway in the shower and it literally won’t leave my head y’ALL (sorry this is long, but I didn’t know how to do the read more thing because I suck so if anyone knows how, please lemme know!)
Katara: Elsa
Sokka: Anna
Zuko: Kristoff
Aang: Olaf
Azula: Hans
Druk: Sven
The Trolls Are: Iroh, Toph, Suki and Kyoshi Warriors, Mai, Ty Lee, Jet and the Freedom Fighters, maybe Yue idk yet
(Cabbage Man is Oaken)
Okay, so I know Sokka is the older sibling and Katara has Anna’s trust, but Katara is the last Waterbender in the SWT so
idk I’m still working it out since as soon as I got out of the shower I started typing this, but I think Katara and Sokka were a family ya know with Hakoda and Kya and Katara had her bending but the Fire Nation was still like iffy so they didn’t publicize it
Sokka thought it was SO COOL and always wanted to play with her powers ya know? They probably created Aang together, not sure about that yet anyways
Katara hits Sokka with her powers (ice maybe?) on accident and he’s dying, they go to “the trolls” but what imma call White Lotus and Yue is there or she was but had to give herself to the moon, but the moon spirit saves Sokka, has white strip in his hair like Anna, they wipe his memories of Katara’s bending
Katara is sad and scared and terrified so she shuts herself in her room and will not go penguin sledding or fishing or anything with Sokka and now Sokka is sad
Hakoda and Kya are eventually like Katara needs to learn how to control it or just rid of her powers, let’s go to the NWT and see if there is a good chi blocker or a master for Katara to learn from
they die on the ship, probably Fire Nation
(also, the war is still technically going on but also not? Not as intensely as it was in the show, but like, it’s there)
I’m not sure what to do about the chief stuff, so we’ll ignore that for now
It is Sokka or Katara’s coronation, Sokka is excited because he can leave their palace and Katara is not excited because she still doesn’t know how to bend or control it
Sokka runs into Azula and now let’s talk about the Fire Nation for a second
Ozai is still ruling, Ursa is gone, Zuko was banished and Iroh went with him
Ozai did burn Zuko’s face, probably for the same reason, so Iroh took Zuko and they went to the Earth Kingdom and met up with other people who had been hurt by the Fire Nation and they became a family and Zuko eventually leaves and finds an egg and it’s Druk! They become besties but Zuko leaves kind of for the same reasons as in Zuko Alone
Ozai is pretty pissed at the Water Tribes because they’re thriving or something and wants to rule them so he’s like “Azula, go hit on one of the siblings and make them love you and then marry them and I can- I mean, you can control the SWT and NWT”
and she’s like “dope I shall bring destruction onto their land eventually” because poor girl is getting manipulated:(
So, Azula and Sokka run into each other, Azula is a terrible flirt but so is Sokka and they bond over how terrible they both are at human interaction and Sokka is like “yeah after I turned ten, they never let me leave the castle so I have zero friends”
and Azula is mentally like wait I have no friends too:(... but is like “yeah I feel, I’m only the Fire Nation Princess, but it’s a boys only club, ya know? So no one takes me seriously”
and Sokka is like “you... I like you...” and definitely starts crushing and asks her to do an activity and yada yada yada
someone gets crowned, idk who yet
Azula and Sokka spend more time together and Azula is like “wow he is so starved for affection that if I asked him to marry me he’d probably say yes Father what kind of mission is this this is so easy”
so she tries it out and he’s like “SURE” and they tell Katara and she’s just not having it
“Sokka! The Fire Nation killed our parents!”
“Yeah, five years ago--” (or more, idk timeline yet) “--besides, this would be good treaty-wise and politically, ya know?” (so I guess this means Katara would become chief? Idk how that happens but we’ll figure it out)
and Katara is just “... SOKKA you just met this girl. Also, she’s Fire Nation!”
and he’s like “well you aren’t in charge on me so imma do whatever I want”
and Katara is like ahhhhh and he ends up pulling a glove off and she waterbends and everyone is like hbfvrvunyuibtuy wHAT
and Azula is like “ooh so there really is still a waterbender left in the SWT...”
Katara runs away and accidentally freezes everywhere she goes (for purposes of plot convenience, she goes to the Earth Kingdom without knowing it and freezes that too I guess? She’s pretty powerful, y’all
and Sokka is like “I gotta go after her!”
and Azula is mentally lie death mission, that gets him out of the way “sURE! I’ll stay here:)”
so Sokka goes and runs into Zuko and Druk
“Dragons are better than people, Druk, don’t you think that’s right?”
and he sees Sokka struggling to paddle a boat or something, again, don’t have land and stuff figured out here yet
Sokka basically annoys him into helping him
(and Zuko won’t admit it, but he kinda liked Sokka’s vibe and was like I haven’t spoken to a human person in years is it selfish to want this? He’s not disgusted at my scar...”)
Zuko does not tell Sokka that he is a fire bender, he mentions he used to live in the Fire Nation, though
Katara makes maybe not an elaborate ice castle, but she is like “LET IT GOOOOOOO” when she finds open land and just makes it so pretty and guys imagine Katara in an Inuit-style Elsa dress? Wouldn’t that be the most gorgeous thing??
Maybe she misses home so she remakes her village out of ice, maybe if she’s lonely (because Katara really hates being alone but she’ll do it for the good of her people) she’ll make ice sculptures of people from the village like her mom and dad and Sokka
also ya know what? No, I don’t want Katara to be completely alone. She finds Momo trying to hide from the cold and takes him in so it is Katara and Momo
Sokka and Zuko are riding Druk, but he’s tired so they aren’t super high, and Sokka is explaining what happened to Zuko and Zuko starts laughing because “you planned on marrying someone you just met? From the Fire Nation?”
“You’re from the Fire Nation!”
“yeah, it sucks. Why do you think I left? But seriously? That’s the funniest thing I’ve heard in three years!” (because I just decided it has been three years of him alone)
and Sokka doesn’t mention that it’s Azula yet because Zuko was already laughing at him but wait Zuko has a really cute and precious laugh--
they talk a bit and Sokka kind of mentions the strip in his hair and how it happened because he got pneumonia as a child and almost died but the moon spirit saved his lifeand Zuko doesn’t know how the frick to respond so he just “... that’s rough, buddy”
Actually, imma take back something I said earlier, they don’t make Aang, her unleashing her powers shakes the earth or water or something and the iceberg pops up and Zuko and Sokka find it and Sokka is like “Imma touch it”
and Zuko goes “wait no don’t touch i-- you touched it” and Aang pops out and is like “HELLO!”
and they’re like who the frick are you?
and Aang is like “I’m the Avatar, Aang”
and Zuko and Sokka just :0
or maybe Katara and Sokka like created him as a kid or like believed he would come back to save them and that kind of like manifested into what happened? Idk but somehow, and maybe more plot convenience, he knows who Katara is, maybe the monks told him she’d be his waterbending master before he got trapped?
“Katara? you’re looking for her? I’m looking for her too! She’s the most powerful waterbender in the world and I need to learn how to waterbend!”
“Woah cool! You should join us!” says Sokka
and Zuko facepalms because “sOKKA again with the people you just met!”
and Sokka is like “I just met you”
“Fair point”
“besides, you guys are some of the first people I’ve talked to in like 5-8 years!”
and Zuko and Aang get kind of quiet because wow now that Sokka mentions in, that’s super true for him, but also true for the both of them... they’re all lonely
so Aang is like “okay let’s find Katara!” and they talk and stuff on the way and Aang mentions being excited to visit the Fire Nation and see Kuzon and all of his airbender friends and Zuko and Sokka just ??? then it hits them that oh boy he’s been in that iceberg for a long time--
so Zuko tells him and Aang is big sad and goes into the Avatar State or something and idk imma come back to this
plus also more friendship bonding happens and more feelings between Zuko and Sokka happen
they eventually reach Katara and they’re all like wow this is gorgeous
and Aang is about to walk in and stuff and Zuko stops him “maybe Sokka should go first? Since she’s his sister?”
Sokka goes into the village, finds the one that looks like their house / hut / palace, sees Katara and they both start crying and hug each other and Katara goes “I’ve missed you so much”
and Sokka is like “why did you leave? Please come back, I’ll help protect you from the Fire Nation! No one will get to you!”
and Katara is like “that’s not what I’m worried about” and her eyes flicker to the white strand in Sokka’s hair. “I don’t know how to control it and I don’t have a teacher and I’m dangerous.”
“I have some friends who can help you find a teacher! Aang and Zuko!”
Aang hears his name so he runs out and is like “Hi, I’m Aang, the avatar, want a hug? You look sad”
and Katara is like this boy is a sweetie and must be protected at all costs so no hug from em because I hurt those I love:(
and then Aang says “The monks told me about you! It was like a hundred years ago, but they told me Katara would be my waterbending teacher! You’re the most powerful waterbender in the world!”
and she laughs and almost believes him but “No, no I can’t control it. What if I hurt people?”
And Aang is like “we can learn together then!”
and Sokka and Katara talk more, Sokka is like “please come back, we’ll protect you from the Fire Nation and help you find a teacher I need you I miss you” and Katara wants to so badly
but she says no
they talk and Sokka mentions that basically everywhere is frozen and Katara is just ???? and Sokka is like “please, you can unfreeze it and people will see you aren’t a threat!”
and Katara flips out, they argue a bit, she hits him in the heart on accident and screams so Zuko and Aang (who left) run out and see Sokka on the ground and Katara hyperventilating and Zuko helps Sokka up and kind of has to hold him up for a couple minutes and he begs Katara to come with them because she’s his baby sister and he’ll protect her and she’s crying and her hand instinctively touches her mother’s necklace and she tells him no and that if they won’t leave, she’ll make them leave and then Aang and Zuko start begging her too because Zuko just met her but he knows that she’ll play a huge role in stopping the war and that she is incredibly powerful (and also she’s so kind when she isn’t accidentally being dangerous, he thinks-- based off of the stories Sokka had told him and the look on her face after she struck Sokka
Sokka says no and Aang and Zuko stand firm beside him so Katara makes a giant sky bison named Appa or something who chases them out of the village and they all end up falling into the freaking cold water and Sokka helps pull Aang and Zuko out since he’s the best swimmer and we love Zuko but he’s kind of a terrible swimmer
and Zuko goes “thank yo-- what’s with your hair?”
“My hair? We just gout out of the ocean, you should see your hair”
And Aang pipes up with “no, your hair is white”
“Wait it’s what? Does it look bad?”
“... no?” - Zuko
Sokka goes “you hesitated you think it’s baddddd”
and Zuko says “no, no, not like that... it’s because your sister struck you, isn’t it?”
and Sokka thinks and realization kind of dawns on him “I never had pneumonia...” and it hits him and he groans “that’s why she stopped playing with me! We need to go back, I need to talk to her--”
and he falls as he tries to get up
Aang and Zuko share a look and are like “yeah, no, you need help or you’ll actually die again”
Zuko suddenly is like “wait? the moon spirit saved you that one time, right? maybe She can do it again! Come on! I have some friends who can help you!”
while all of that is happening, Azula is planning on assassinating Katara and the people of the SWT and visitors from the rest of the world are freezing so she’s like “I guess I’ll go stop her since she must have killed my fiance”
some others go with her and they find where Katara is hiding out and Azula kills Appa:( and faces Katara with her people
Katara easily get the others out of the way and then it’s her and Azula
“I don’t want to hurt you!” Katara says
Azula puts her hands down and says “I don’t want to either. Just come with us, fox the weather, and we can help you”
“Why should I trust you? Your nation has wanted to kill me for years!”
“mmm fair point”
they fight a bit, Katara ends up getting knocked out and they take her back and lock her up
going back to the trio and Druk, they’re going to the little corner of the Earth Kingdom where the White Lotus is and Sokka’s hair is getting progressively more white and he’s getting more cold and Zuko is starting to panic so he says “I’m going to show you something, but you have to promise not to freak out”
so Sokka nods and Aang is chill with it because he doesn’t hate firebenders like the rest of the world
so Zuko creates a fire and holds it close to Sokka who does indeed freak out and crawls to the other side of the dragon
and Aang is like “wow! That’s so pretty! Can you teach me that? I need a firebending teach too! It was going ti be Kuzon but...”
and Zuko goes to Sokka again and says “I didn’t want you to hate me. I’m not evil or anything like Ozai. You’re freezing, please, let me help you warm up.”
and Sokka is silent then says “I trust you” and Zuko kind of pulls him in and wraps his arms around Sokka to warm him up and Aang looks left out so Sokka tells him to join
and all three are like “wow. This is the most human contact I’ve had in years... it’s nice”
somewhere here I think would be a good time for Sokka to ask about Zuko’s scar and so Zuko tells the story and Sokka and Aang are pissed and ready to kill but before Sokka and piece together that Azula is his sister, they arrive
Zuko is like “hello, Zuko here! But you guys probably knew that, or at least Toph will-- oof!” because Toph runs at him and gives him a super hard hug and suddenly the White Lotus is surrounding him and are like “how are you?” “where’ve you been?” “we missed you!” etc, etc
and Zuko is like “haha I missed you guys too but um, I’m actually here for something else... he helps Aang and Sokka off of Druk and Toph immediately feels the change in their heart rates when Zuko helps Sokka and Sokka leans against Zuko so she goes “you got a boyfriend!”
cue matching looks of horror on the two’s faces and suddenly everyone is interrogating both of them and Zuko is like y’all!!! He needs help! Where’s Iroh?
he is ignored:/
“Zuko looks grumpy and he acts grumpy but really he’s a sweetheart and mushy!” says Ty Lee
“make sure you give him lots of hugs and attention because he will not tell you when he wants it” Suki says
and Zuko’s whole face is red and it’s the funniest thing Sokka has seen and he’s so invested in all of these people and their stories and wants to stay forever but then remembers Katara and Zuko finally is like “IROH!”
Iroh comes and sees Sokka and he’s like welcome back
and like at this point Sokka can barely stand and Zuko is supporting all his weight
and Zuko is like “you helped him when he was younger, please help him now!”
and Iroh is sad “there is nothing I can do, nephew. The moon spirit is generous, but to touch the same thing twice... an act of true love is the only way to fix this”
and Zuko gets sad and says “your fiance”
and Sokka kind of mutters “... yeah... my fiance” because now after spending a week minimum a month max with Zuko, Aang, and Druk, he definitely has feelings for Zuko but he’s confused
and everyone else gets sad and Toph is confused because she can feel their heart rates
but Zuko sucks it up and helps Sokka back onto Druk and they set back for the SWT and all Sokka is thinking is for Katara for Katara for Katara for Katara... was she right? Maybe I was too fast with Azula... but we connected and she wanted to talk to me and... for Katara for Katara...
so Katara is locked up and Azula is like “this would have been fine if you did not put up a struggle. If you surrendered peacefully we would not have to resort to this”
and then leaves because she hears that Sokka is back and Katara is like “I’m a monster, but so is Azula and I need to find Sokka and apologize and fix everything I’ve done, even if I die” so she escapes because Katara is cool like that
Zuko and Azula see each other and it’s awkward, but she sees Sokka in his arms and she realizes that he didn’t die and her idiot brother helped him they make eye contact and Zuko can kind of tell what her plan is in her eyes but Azula feigns worry for Sokka and grabs him from Zuko’s arms before he can stop her and Sokka is like “Azula...” and she’s pretending and stuff and then she sees Aang and her eyes widen at his tattoos and Zuko shoves Aang behind him and says “You aren’t taking the avatar to Father. Just save Sokka, he doesn’t have much time left”
her eyes linger on Aang with interest but she turns and leaves and sets Sokka down in a room and Sokka explains it and tries kissing her but she just laughs and is like “oh, if only there was someone out there who loved you” and in his hazy and near death mind, Sokka understands it all because he may be naive, but he’s clever
“You’re Zuko’s sister”
“I am. You really were so trusting and naive to fall in love with the first person you see.”
“I’m sorry”
“What?”
“Zuko told me about your father... I’m sorry he’s manipulating you.”
and Azula shrieks, lights her hands on fire and is just barely able to stop herself from burning him, makes sure the fire in the room dies, mentions killing Katara and Zuko and capturing Aang, then locks Sokka in the room
and Sokka is crying because he should have listened to Katara and he just wants her to be okay and he can barely move, he can’t do anything to protect her from problems he caused and Aang is going to get hurt and he misses Zuko
and Zuko misses Sokka and Aang is like “okay, something’s up”
Zuko tells him about how Azula is his sister and he doesn’t trust her and that he thinks he loves Sokka, or has feelings for him at least
Aang goes “do you think Azula really loves Sokka?”
“... no”
“then we need to turn around. Druk!”
Azula tells everyone Sokka died because of Katara and that they nee to kill her and his last words were marriage vows
the door handle rattles and Aang comes in and Sokka shakes his head and he’s crying and says “you need to get out of here, she’s gonna kill you”
and Aang is shaking his head and saying “no, don’t worry! Zuko is here and he’s on his way! It’s storming really bad outside right now and he’s fighting off some guards, but he came back for you” and Aang helps Sokka up and out of the room but guards see them and Aang stays behind to fight them
Katara stumbled upon Azula as she tries escaping and they start fighting, kind of like the Agni Kai fight and it’s really epic and cool and stuff and then Azula says something like “stop fooling around and wasting everyone’s time. I am now the ruler of the SWT and I am ordering you to stand down!”
and Katara goes “ruler... where is Sokka?”
“Sokka? Oh, he returned weak and cold. His heart was frozen. Your brother is dead because of you”
and Katara falls to her knees and cries and Azula is like “ha weakness time to kill”
and Sokka sees Zuko and he’s “running” to him but then sees Katara and Azula about to kill her and jumps in front of her despite Zuko’s pleas and Sokka is frozen and when Katara looks up and sees what happened, she loses control and freezes Azula like she did in the Agni Kai and the storm dies down and Zuko and Aang run to her and she’s clinging to Sokka and crying and so is Zuko and then sibling love and he comes back
Zuko is like “love. It doesn’t have to be a kiss.”
and they hug and Sokka is back to his normal self except his hair is still white maybe, but he introduces Katara to Zuko and Aang formally and they all hug and then the White Lotus comes and Toph and Suki and Mai and Jet are all sad because they missed the fight but are happy that Sokka’s okay and Azula is still kind of there and idk what they do with her, I’ll come back to that, actually, maybe Azula manages to escape
but so it would end kind of ambiguously because Ozai is still there and the SWT is untrusting of Katara still so they have to flee maybe and they return to the White Lotus hide out and Zuko and Sokka have a moment where they are like “hey I think I like you”
then Sokka and Katara have a great sibling moment
and that’s how it ends
okay wow that was long and took an hour and a half to type but y’all this would NOT leave my head!!!! I feel like this doesn’t have enough Katara in it, so know that if I actually made this a thing, there would be a lot more Katara and more sibling moments and Zuko and Aang and White Lotus and stuff but uhhh yeah idk if this has been done before but it was living in my mind rent free (p.s. Mai and Ty Lee do have a history with Azula in this AU and there would be an Azula redemption at some point)
if anyone has any thoughts or feelings or anything to add, please do:) I wasn’t sure if I should make Sokka or Katara Elsa, but I went with Katara because she had the powers and Zukka happening worked better with Sokka as Anna, idk

Cory and his new girlfriend, Ella, wanted to take Lily to a Disney on Ice: Frozen one Sunday night and you were more than okay with Lily to go along. Cory has been dating Ella for the last seven months. They met through a mutual friend that he plays poker with on Monday nights and they really hit it off.
He gave you the same amount of courtesy as you did with Luke about informing you of Ella before he had her meet Lily. You were happy for him that he’s found someone to care for again and when you met her for the first-time dropping Lily off for the weekend, you liked her immediately.
She had a kind smile and a gentle heart, and she was very patient with Lily at that first meeting. Lily was originally in Luke’s arms when they walked up but as soon as she saw the new stranger, she reached for you.
Cory stepped forward taking Lily’s small hand in his. “Lils, this is a special friend of daddy’s, her name’s Ella. Can you say hi?”
You kissed Lily’s head three times in assurance, and she said a small ‘hello.’
“Hi Lily,” Ella smiled kindly leaning down, so she was at eye level with her. “Your daddy has told me all about you and how you like Frozen. It’s one of my favorites, too.”
Lily blinked at her then looked up at you and you nodded excitedly.
“She loves Anna and Elsa too!”
“Olaf!” Lily smiled.
“Olaf too! What does Olaf like to do?” Ella asked and you’re impressed with her inclination to talk to Lily.
“Warm hugs!”
You liked Ella, you really did, but it also panged you a little to see how excited Lily got when you and Luke dropped her off at Cory’s on the weekends now. It’s something you wrestled with for a long time, would Ella be like her other mother? Lily calls Luke ‘dada’ and it will absolutely crush you if she starts to call Ella that.
“No one could ever replace you, lovie,” Luke said one Friday while you dropped her off in the morning.
“Hmm, what?” you ask, and his hand reached over to still your twisting fingers, a habit you have when you’re anxious.
“I know you’re worried Ella is going to be taking your place, but nothing will come between the bond you have with Lily.”
“She gets so excited to see her . . .” you mumbled looking down at your joined fingers with Luke. “I’m glad she likes her, and they get along but I’m . . . I’m a little jealous.”
Luke sighs heavily as he pulls into the garage, he cuts the ignition and turns to you. He pulls on your hand until you look over at him, eyes sad.
“I know you are, lovie,” he said gently, stroking your cheek, “but no one will replace you. Your Lily’s mama and no one will take that place. Besides, Cory’s told me she calls her Ella and always says ‘mama this’ or ‘mama that.’”
“Really?” your body relaxed.
“Mhm,” he nodded and pressed his lips to yours, “you’re her one and only mama.”
That night, you and Luke shared a romantic evening with homemade pasta and an early night in between the sheets. Any moment you had alone you never took it for granted.
***
Lily hands you the last little sticker decal on the changeable letter board just as you come back from that special moment three months ago. You’ve been planning this little arts and crafts for about two weeks now and you are finally putting it into motion.
It’s a warm day in the middle of September, and you have gathered in yours and Luke’s kitchen a bunch of mixing bowls and ingredients to make cupcakes. Lily is standing on a chair next to you, her little baby blue apron tied securely on her.
You glance at your daughter, pure love and pride swelling up inside.
About a month ago, while Luke was at the studio you took Lily to the craft store so you could buy the supplies you needed. You explained to her that there was a little baby growing inside of you and you used one of her baby dolls she had to help her understand.
“We’re going to surprise dada though, okay? So, you must keep it a super, super secret!” you told her while you were at the store. You pressed your finger to your lips and Lily did the same, understanding your motion.
Now here you are, setting up your surprise to tell Luke that you’re pregnant. You hadn’t been trying but you hadn’t been not trying either.
You knew before you even bought a pregnancy test because you had migraines like crazy and everything you ate made you nauseous which is exactly what happened when you were pregnant with Lily.
Petunia sat up as fast as she could near your feet, she’s been by your side constantly, which means Luke is home. You have a slight moment of panic and set the board up on the little easel and place the vase of lilies in front of it so it’s in perfect display for Luke.
Lily remembers to stay quiet but stands proudly with a smile on her face waiting for Luke to enter the room.
“There’s my girls,” Luke smiles, tossing his keys in the bowl. His eyes scan between you and Lily and the dozen cupcakes cooling on the racks next to you, but his pretty blue eyes fall on the board. You see his mouth form the words:
Recipe for 1 baby sister
2 cups hugs
3 cups kisses
4 cups love
Baby Hemmings expected May 2021
Then his eyes scan to the small black and white sonogram showing your baby. He walks slowly to you; mouth open in shock while his eyes continue to dart between you and the board.
“Are you . . .?” his question is left hanging and you nod your head smiling happily.
“Look dada! It’s a baby there!” Lily exclaims pointing her finger at the photo.
At the word ‘baby’ he looks down to your stomach and he bites his lip. You take his hand in yours then tilt his chin up so he’s looking at you. His eyes are even brighter from the tears that have pooled in the corners.
“We’re going to have a baby,” you tell him, your own voice thick with emotion.
Luke lets out a choked laugh, his arms wrap around you and he hugs you tightly with his face in your neck. You hug him back with the same amount of pressure, your fingers playing with his curls at the nape of his neck as he sways from side to side.
“We’re going to have a baby,” he mumbles and sniffs before pulling away. He gives you a soft kiss that turns into multiple until he knocks his forehead against yours. “You just made me the happiest man in the world, lovie.”
“Look dada! It’s a baby!” Lily exclaims again, pulling on his arm.
Luke sniffs once more and you wipe the tears away from his cheeks and he picks Lily up in his arms.
“Did you help mama with all this, sweets?” he asks, giving her a kiss as he reads over the board again. “You already know it’s a girl?”
“Not yet, but I feel like she’s a girl,” you smile, “I’m going through exactly what I did with Lily. The migraines, getting sick at everything.”
“You were getting sick? When?!”
“You were sleeping after late sessions with the guys,” you shrug, “it’s okay.”
“I would have helped you, lovie.”
“You can help with the rest, like when I can’t get my shoes on,” you smile.
“And you kept this secret from me, little girl? Huh?” Luke turns his attention to Lily and tickles her belly until she’s giggling uncontrollably. Luke’s smile fades a little as he takes you in, he can already see a glow in you and wants to turn that glow into a sparkle. “Wait here, Lily and I have to do something quick.”
You give him a confused look which he returns with a wink and disappears down the hall with Lily in his arms. You glance down at Petunia who shifts on her bottom and looks back with her brown eyes.
“Are you in on this secret?” you ask her.
In the time it would take for her to respond (as if she could) Luke and Lily were already walking back into the kitchen. Luke crouches and sets Lily down on the ground, he spins her around and pushes her forward and you gasp.
On her shirt are the words “mama will you marry dada?” and Luke is on his knee behind her with a ring box. Lily is swinging from side to side sticking her chest out proudly as you move closer and Luke takes your hand in his.
“I wanted to do this in the morning in bed. I’d carry Lily in wearing this and it’d be perfect, but no moment is more perfect than this. I already made the mistake of giving you away those three months so long ago and I’ll never do that again. Out of all the things in my life and all of my crimes you’re the only thing I got right; will you marry me?”
He pops open the ring box, but you can’t even see what the ring looks like because your vision is blurred from your tears.
“Yes,” you whisper, pulling on the collar of his shirt so you can kiss him. He rises from the floor and his arms snake around your waist so he can kiss you more easily.
“I wanna see! I wanna see!” Lily pulls on both of your legs causing you and Luke to chuckle.
“Let’s have mama see the ring first, my sweet,” Luke smiles then slides the diamond on your finger.
Your mouth drops open when you see it, a dazzling oval diamond sparkles up at you atop a rose gold band glittered with interwoven diamonds.
“Luke, this is--” you sigh and are at a loss for words.
“I had some help picking it out.”
You glance up at him and then down at Lily who is giving you her signature sweet smile. You bend down and touch her cheek.
“Did you help pick this out for me?” you ask holding up your hand so she can see the jewelry and she nods. “I love it, you and dada did such a good job.”
“Daddy liked it too!”
“He did?” your brows furrowed, and Luke is kneeling along with you now.
“I asked him and Lily if I could marry you.”
***
You’d been working late all week and getting up super early because there was a special case that needed everyone’s attention. So, Luke would be taking Lily over to Cory’s house at about ten o’clock after he made Lily and himself some breakfast.
Luke has been stressing out for about a month and even more stressed out that whole week because he wanted, no, needed to talk to Cory. He’s grateful you had to go to work early, but not so thankful that it’s been leaving you exhausted.
He gathered Lily and her things, zipped up her purple raincoat and carried her to the car through the slight drizzle that was falling from the sky. They listened to his playlist of Disney songs he’s made on his Spotify that Lily likes on the drive to Cory’s house and Luke became more nervous as each mile came closer.
Luke is proud to say that Cory has become a close friend of his over the last three years. From seeing him every weekend to drop off and pick Lily up to inviting him out to the bar with the guys. They’ve spent holidays and Lily’s birthdays together.
He’s also thankful that Cory came and talked to Luke when you broke up and gave him the nudge, he needed to get you back.
The rain is coming down a bit harder now and Luke makes sure to pull Lily’s hood up over her head as he carries her to the door which is already opened by Cory.
“Hey guys,” Cory smiled stepping aside.
“Hey man,” Luke greeted, and he could hear his voice shake. He hoped Cory doesn’t notice as he handed Lily off who is excited to see her dad.
“Y/N’s still having to go in early, huh? Hi Lils, how are you doing sweetheart?” Cory asked and kissed Lily’s nose before setting her on the ground to take off her rain jacket.
“Good. Dada made pancakes!”
“He did? Wow, I hope there were blueberries,” Cory kissed Lily’s forehead.
“She won’t eat them otherwise,” Luke laughed then ran his fingers through his curls. “Hey, can I um . . . talk to you about something, Cory?”
“Yeah, come on in. Ella will be here in an hour anyway,” he nodded moving into the kitchen where there’s a mug of coffee on the table. He pulled another mug from the cupboard. “Want a cup?”
“Uh, sure.”
“Cream or sugar?”
“Neither, thanks,” Luke sighed, taking a seat in the chair opposite Cory's mug.
Cory eyed him carefully when he brought over his mug and sat down across from him. Lily came running back to them with her snuffy and bunny wanting to crawl up onto Cory’s lap. He pulled her up happily then looked at Luke.
“So, what’s up?” Cory asked.
“Uh, right,” Luke cleared his throat, his finger tracing the ring of the cup then he stopped suddenly. “I don’t really know how to start so bear with me.”
“You’re good man,” Cory nodded, brushing Lily’s hair behind her back.
“You and Lily are the most important people in Y/N’s life and she’s the most important person in my life, along with your little girl right there,” Luke smiled pointing to Lily. “And I can’t thank you enough for being so welcoming to me and I love Y/N so much and I . . . I want to ask how you’d feel if I were to . . . to ask her to marry me.” Luke’s eyes slid up on the last sentence to finally look at Cory.
“You’re an important person in her life, too Luke, don’t downplay yourself like that. I think it’s a great idea to ask her to marry you. What do you think, Lils? You want mama to marry Luke?”
“What’s that?” she asked.
“There’d be a big party and you’d be in a pretty dress and Luke and mama will be together forever,” Cory explained, and Lily listened carefully to his words. Her little fingers play with her bunny’s ears.
“Like Cinderella?”
“Yeah, sweetheart, just like Cinderella.”
“Yeah!” she exclaimed, throwing her hands up in the air. Luke and Cory laughed.
“You’re all right with it?” Luke asked again.
“I appreciate you asking, but you don’t need to run your relationship by me, man. You both deserve to be happy.”
“You’re Lily’s dad, I want to make sure you’re happy too.”
“I am, man,” Cory smiled, rubbing Lily’s back. “I’ve got this little girl right here and Ella. Y/N’s still in my life too, and now you are as well. We’re a bit messed up for a family but it’s still family. Ask her to marry you.”

October 6, Lily’s fourth birthday, came a month after the double surprise of the pregnancy and baby announcement which would also be the time, you’d tell everyone about the pregnancy and figured her birthday was a good time to tell.
Surprisingly, you thought your morning sickness was over but after you told Luke you were throwing up at odd hours of the day for the following two weeks. Luke was by your side the whole time, rubbing your back and wiping your brow of sweat that formed.
The plan to tell everyone about the pregnancy was to put Lily in a pink t-shirt that said, ‘Best Big Sister’ and she loved to wear it.
While you and Luke were finishing up last minute decorating Lily was watching for her uncles and Cory by the front door with Petunia sitting next to her.
“Do you think they’ll even read her shirt?” you ask nervously, your hands placed across your belly.
“Of course, they will,” Luke smiles placing the last of the plates on the table.
“And we’re not taking away from her birthday, right?”
“Lovie,” Luke smiles and moves in front of you taking your hands away from your belly. He presses his lips to your hands, eyes on you. “Lily’s just as excited to tell them as we are. We aren’t taking anything away from her, okay?”
“Okay, yeah,” you nod, “you’re right. I’m sorry I’m being so paranoid.”
“Not paranoid, just a concerned mama,” he smiles. “I kind of like it though.”
“Why?” you giggle.
“Because, it’s my turn to calm you down. Usually you’re the one making sure I keep my head down on earth but now that you’re pregnant, I get to do it for you.”
He gives you a sweet kiss just as Lily squeals in delight that her uncles are here. The three of you meet everybody outside and Lily first runs to Cory and Ella who scoops her up.
“There’s my birthday girl!” Cory smiles throwing her up in the air.
You take Luke’s hand when everyone else says hello to her as well and then their eyes move as one to her shirt then to you and back again to her shirt.
“No way!”
“You’re pregnant?!”
“Is this real?”
“It’s real,” you sigh happily with a shrug, “I’m pregnant!”
They all cheer and shower you in hugs and kisses with congratulations going all around. Lily is happy as well pointing to your belly.
“My sister’s in there,” she states proudly to Cory.
“It’s a girl?” Cory asks, his eyebrows raised.
“Well, we won’t know officially until the end of November,” Luke smiles squeezing your shoulder and kisses your cheek, “but we think it’s a girl.”
“How exciting!” Crystal exclaims and gives you another hug. How are you feeling? Do you need to sit down?”
“I’m fine,” you laugh. “I’m not due until May. But I don’t want to take away from Lily’s day, so let’s go inside.”
●●●●●
Luke couldn’t stop smiling after leaving the doctor’s office. Lily was already at Cory and Ella’s for the weekend, so it was just you and Luke at the office to find out the sex of the baby. He held your hand tightly as the nurse squeezed the gel onto your belly and the familiar echoed ga-lump of the ultrasound filled the room.
You were transported back to when this was just you and little Lily perched inside your womb. You were alone back then because Cory was away and while it filled you with sadness you made sure not to let it affect your pregnancy.
Luke’s squeeze to your hand brought you back to the present and you knew this time would be different. Luke is present and he is so excited to experience this with you and you felt the exact same. The nurse smiled when she told you it was indeed a girl and Luke started crying and he kissed your temple before peering closer at the monitor.
“That’s her?” he pointed to a small blob.
“That’s your daughter,” the nurse smiled.
As soon as you got home, he let Petunia out then just stared at you with a glazed look in his eye.
“What?” you chuckle setting your things down on the counter.
“I just love you,” he says simply stepping closer to you, his arms wrapping around your waist. You rest your palms on his chest and you don’t miss the long glance at the ring on your finger from him before he looks in your eyes. “And I love Lily and this little rosebud growing inside you.”
“I love you too, honey,” you smile then make an amused face, “rosebud, huh? I’ve never heard that one.”
“She looked like a little rosebud on the screen,” he smiles knocking his head to your forehead. “I was thinking . . .”
“Uh oh,” you giggle sliding your hands over his shoulders and into his hair.
“Shut up,” he chuckles, his hands rub up and down your back. “I was thinking of when this little rosebud was conceived.”
“You think you know when that was?”
“Well, ten weeks ago Lily was at that Frozen show with Cory and Ella . . . and we didn’t get out of bed until we had to go pick her up . . .” his voice drifts off as he takes your top lip between his own.
You sigh into his kiss, relishing in his soft lips as his tongue slips into your mouth. Your stomach tightens and your thighs clench together from the heat behind his kiss.
“Take me to bed,” you sigh.
Luke hums in approval and lifts you into his arms effortlessly. You remove each other’s clothes slowly, eyes taking each other in as you do. It’s been so long since you’ve last admired each other completely, loved one another fully.
“You’re so gorgeous, lovie,” he whispers, his fingers tracing the outline of your breasts before cascading over your belly. He flattens his hand over the small bump that has started to form, his bright blue eyes flicker up to yours. “So sexy, mama.”
You whine and pull his mouth to yours falling onto the bed, you both struggle to keep your lips locked as you crawl up the bed. Luke’s fingers part your legs open, dipping his finger in between your folds. Your body jerks at his touch, you bite on his lip just as his finger enters you.
“Nice and wet for me,” he hums cocking his head so he can kiss your throat and your breast as he pumps his finger in and out of you slowly.
He works you over leisurely before slipping himself inside you. You both groan at the feeling, he fills you completely and you’re such a warm, snug fit around him. It reminds you of the first time you and Luke had sex, the way your bodies moved in tandem.
You were always in perfect sync from the beginning and you moaned his name and your love for him as he rocked your world. Your fingers locked together, lips bumping together as you both moan and groan from heightened senses of tantric pleasure.
“I love you,” you both sigh as you reach your climax.
Hours, and many rounds later, you’re both sat up in bed eating some strawberries while a movie is playing quietly on the tv. Luke is staring at you as you eat your strawberry, you give him a narrow look.
“What? You’re thinking again, aren’t you?” you smile slyly and discard the end into the bowl.
“Marry me,” he states simply. He’s leaning his head on his hand, bed sheet strung across his hips. He reaches over with his other hand to rub your bare knee.
“You asked me that already, honey,” you snicker and pick up another strawberry.
“Marry me before the baby comes,” he says in an even softer voice.
“What?”
“I don’t want to wait until after she comes. I want to be married to you as soon as possible.”
You stare at him, concentrating on the gentle circles he’s drawing on your knee with his fingers. His eyes are full of certainty and it honestly makes your heart race that he wants to marry you so quickly.
Then panic sets in because of all the planning that comes with it, so you act elusive when you ask,
“And when would you want to get married?”
“Well, it’s almost December so . . . how about in three months?”
“You want to get married in three months?” you can’t help the smile growing on your lips as you begin to imagine a wedding in February. “I’ll be six months pregnant by then.”
“I know,” Luke leans up so he’s in a sitting position, the sheet falls a bit past his hips, and you can’t resist to peek at what’s underneath. He kisses your shoulder. “If you want to wait, we’ll wait. I’m just saying I’d marry you yesterday.”
You pull Luke’s face to yours, kissing him in excitement. Luke doesn’t hesitate to deepen the kiss, his fingers locking into your hair, his lips tasting like strawberries.
“Let’s do it,” you whisper stroking his cheek. “Let’s get married in February.”
●●●●●
The holidays came and went, and in that time, you and Luke were planning your wedding. It’d be simple with only your closest friends and family and as much as you were excited to marry Luke, your pregnancy has been entirely different from Lily.
Your belly has grown, and your little girl is healthy, but it’s taken a toll on your body. For the first two and a half months you had morning sickness all throughout the day and on top of that, random hot flashes. Luke helped as much as he could, and even Lily gave you her bunny to try and make you feel better.
You used sick days from work because your morning sickness was so bad and one night after Christmas you woke up and pulled the standing fan from your closet and blasted it on high while you slept.
The cool, hard blast of air finally aided you to rest and then all too soon, it went away. You woke up confused and felt Luke try to pull the blankets up as the fan whirred to silence.
“What are you doing?! I need that, I’m so hot,” you whined and pushed the fan back on while kicking the sheets from your legs. Your sleep shirt had ridden up and your grown belly was feeling the cool air now and it felt glorious.
“How are you hot? It’s wintertime, lovie, I’m freezing,” he huffed pulling the comforter up to his chin.
“The baby you put in me is making me hot, I can’t help it,” you snapped and then instantly begin to cry. Along with hot flashes, your emotions are haywire.
“What is it? What’s wrong?” Luke threw the blanket off and grabs onto you gently, checking if you’re all right.
“I didn’t mean to snap at you,” you cried touching his cheek. “I love this baby you put in me and I love you. But I’m so hot I can’t sleep!”
“It’s all right lovie, we can leave the fan on,” he hushed and kissed your temple. “I’ll put on warmer clothes and get some more blankets.”
You laughed at the memory of how upset you had gotten as you stand in front of the mirror as the seamstress pins and tacks your wedding dress. It’s lace with bell sleeves and lightweight so it won’t pinch any part of you. Lily is getting her dress altered as well, she’s standing very still as her seamstress ruffles her light pink skirt.
You’re reminded of another memory not too long ago as you were lying on the couch watching a movie and Luke was talking quietly to you while rubbing your belly. He gasped suddenly and you knew exactly why. The baby kicked.
“What was that?” he asked in shock and you just smiled at him, Lily turned her attention to you from the screen.
“Our little rosebud kicked, she must like your voice,” you brushed his curls from his face.
“Really? Hi, my little love, do you know who I am?” Luke asked and rubbed your belly where he felt the kick. He pressed a kiss to your belly and Lily crawled over, so she was sitting next to you.
“What’s dada doing?” she asked watching him.
“Talking to your sister, she can hear you too, do you want to say hi?” you asked.
“Hi baby, I’m Lily,” she said in her soft voice and patted your belly lightly.
Since then, Luke woke up every morning loving on your belly and Lily did as well. Randomly throughout the day she would come up to you, give you a hug and kiss your belly before running back to play in her room or with Petunia.
When the guys would be over Luke told them the baby was kicking, and they’d ask if they could feel. Lily would come running up telling them to be gentle, her brows furrowed in determination.
After the dress fitting you and Lily went back home where Luke was finishing up phone calls for more wedding plans. You watched him silently as he sat at the kitchen table finishing up whatever call he was on while looking at his laptop and pulled Lily effortlessly onto his lap.
In just a few short weeks you’ll be calling him your husband and in just a few more months you’ll be having his baby. You’re overcome with emotion while he finishes his call then sets his phone down and starts talking with Lily. He’s asking her questions about her dress and how excited he is to see her in it.
Luke glances over to you then stands up immediately when he sees you’re crying.
“What’s the matter? Do your feet hurt?” he asks situating Lily on his hip, his other hand reaching out to swipe away your tears.
“No,” you shake your head, “I’m just so happy that I’m marrying you.”
●●●●●
Your alarm goes off at 7:00 a.m. and you silence it quickly, already wide awake. Today is your wedding day.
“I’m marrying your daddy today my little rosebud,” you tell your bump rubbing it softly, she kicks lightly in response. “You’re excited too, huh?”
Luke had spent the night at Ashton’s, wanting to keep the tradition of not seeing each other until the moment you meet at the end of aisle. You crept into Lily’s room and wake her gently, her hair is all over the place but when she wakes up a bit more, she scrambles into your arms.
“Good morning, sweetheart,” you kiss her head, “are you ready for breakfast and get ready for our big day today? You know what today is, right?”
“What mama?” she yawns leaning heavily onto your shoulder.
“I’m marrying dada today and you get to wear your pretty dress,” you remind her.
After eating a quick breakfast of cereal and blueberries, you’re in the car heading to the salon where you’ll both be getting your hair done. The ceremony is at 11:00 in Ashton’s backyard where all your friends and family will be gathered. Luke’s family had arrived two days prior and Lily loves having her nana Liz.
After your hair appointment, Luke had set up that you and Lily would get a mani-pedi as well and it felt like heaven when the lady rubbed your feet. And of course, the color you chose was a pretty pink for your fingers and toes.
When you arrived at Ashton’s house there were cars already scattered about and Ella and Liz snuck you inside the house so Luke wouldn’t be able to see you. He’s getting ready downstairs while a bunch of other people in the house were still bringing in decorations and chairs and flowers. Crystal is delegating it all.
“You both look so lovely, and you are absolutely glowing, Y/N,” Liz compliments while she lifts Lily into her arms.
“Thank you,” you smile squeezing her hand.
They help you into your dress making sure it’s not tight and feels comfortable then a make-up team comes in to do your make-up. Andy is taking photos of the whole process and when Crystal comes in, she has a gift for you and Lily from Luke.
You pull Lily onto your lap letting her open the small box to reveal a pretty bracelet that can be cinched to whatever size and in the center is a pretty little lily charm that has a pink diamond inside.
“Ooh pretty,” Lily touches the silver flower carefully. You help her put it on her wrist and she lifts her hand up to see it dangle and she giggles at her gift.
“That’s from dada,” you tell her.
“Pretty,” she says again, and you kiss her head while you open your gift from Luke.
It’s also a silver bracelet with a bar in the center that’s engraved ‘My lovie’ and the date of your wedding day, 2/08/21. Liz places your flower crown on top of your head, the final touch of your wedding look.
Liz helps you put on your bracelet and Andy captures photos of it all, and of yours and Lily’s wrists together with the bracelets. There’s a knock on the door and Cory enters wearing a nice button up purple shirt and dark dress pants.
“Daddy!” Lily squeals running off your lap to greet him by the door.
“You look like a princess, Lils!” Cory smiles picking her up and gives her a kiss.
You haul yourself up from the chair, Ella helping you with a smile which you return graciously and turn to Cory. His eyes soften when he looks at you, both of you having the same thought that this could have been you and him all those years ago if his accident didn’t happen.
“We’ll be downstairs, you both look beautiful,” Crystal says giving you a quick kiss to your cheek. She pinches Lily’s cheek on the way out and Ella gives you a quick hug before leaving too. She rubs Cory’s arm on her way out.
“I’m so happy you’ll be part of the family,” Liz dabs at her eyes and hugs you gently so she doesn’t mess up your make up or dress. “Luke is going to love how beautiful you look.”
“Thank you, Liz,” you smile giving her an extra squeeze. She gives you a quick wink then kisses Lily’s cheek multiple times before leaving the room.
It’s just the three of you now waiting for the time to head downstairs. You move around the chair to stand in front of Cory, a layer of tears fill his eyes and your own prick with tears as well. He takes your hand and kisses your knuckles.
“You look gorgeous, Y/N,” his voice is raw with emotion.
“Thank you,” you whisper, you swipe your thumb under your eye to catch a tear that escapes, and Cory pulls you against his chest. He hugs you and Lily tightly; you feel his lips kiss your forehead.
“I’m so happy for you, this is harder than I thought it’d be, but I really am happy for you. I’ll always love you,” he confesses, and you squeeze your eyes closed so tears don’t fall.
You pull away to look up at him and dry his own tears. Lily does as well and pats his cheek.
“Don’t cry daddy,” she says sadly.
“I’m okay, sweetheart, they’re happy tears,” he assures her and kisses her nose.
“I love you, too Cory,” you sniff. His brown eyes slide to yours and he nods.
“Are you ready to get married?” he asks, and you nod.
“Is my make-up ruined?”
“You’re perfect,” he shakes his head and bounces Lily in his arms, “you both are.”
He helps guide you down the stairs, you are six months pregnant after all, and out into the backyard where all the guests are. Crystal is at the end of the aisle with Petunia who has a flower crown on her head as well. The aisle is opened between two large white backdrops, so Luke wouldn’t be able to see you until it was time for you to walk.
“Okay sweetheart, you’re going to walk with Petunia to Luke, okay?” Cory tells Lily setting her down in the grass. Crystal hands her the little basket of flower petals. “Put the flowers down for mama, all right?”
“Okay daddy,” she nods then looks up to you.
You bend down, pinching her chin affectionately. You know she’s nervous.
“You’ll be okay, baby. Piggy’s with you and you just go straight to Lu, he’s waiting for you. I’ll be there soon, okay? I love you.” You kiss her forehead.
“Love you mama,” and she wraps her arms around you in the tightest hug she can muster.
The music starts and Crystal points Lily down the aisle. You watch as much as you can from the corner and as soon as she sees Luke, she tosses the basket into the grass and runs into his open arms. Luke and the guests laugh as well as you and Cory.
The music changes to a pretty piano instrumental of Lover of Mine that Luke transposed just for this moment. You begin to cry again as Cory takes your arm in his and leads you in the opening of the aisle.
The guests rise, turning their attention to you but your focus is on Luke and Lily at the end of the aisle. They’re both standing under a white canopy that is overflowing with different shades of pinks, oranges and white flowers.
Luke’s eyes are glued to yours as he hands Lily off to Calum’s awaiting arms. You see Luke’s shoulders rise and fall as he takes a deep breath and you smile, feeling just as nervous and excited as he does.
He looks exceptionally handsome in a white button up shirt with pink suspenders and navy-blue dress pants. His hair is curled just the way you like. Your bare feet are tickled by the grass and flower petals, you’re glad you opted to go shoeless.
Cory hands you off then go to sit down next to Ella, Luke’s hand is firm in yours and you feel like you can finally breathe.
“You’re so gorgeous,” he murmurs, thumb rubbing circles on the back of your hand. He sniffs quickly and you wipe a stray tear.
“You’re so handsome,” you whisper.
The ceremony is short, and you and Luke decided to do your own vows, but both wanted them to be short and simple. His hands squeeze yours before he speaks his vows.
“We’ve seen the highs and the lows of each other, and we’ve been through so many memories together. I can’t believe I’m not only marrying my best friend, but that we’re having a baby together and the love I have for you and Lily will go on forever. All my wrongs has lead me right to you, lovie, and I’ll always be here to rub your back, endure the fan being on high blast when we sleep and to write endless songs for you because there isn’t music without you.” His voice is soft as he speaks only to you and you’re struggling to keep your breathing even, but his words have pierced your heart.
You struggle to catch your breath and find your voice.
“You should have gone first,” you tease, and everyone laughs which eases your nerves slightly. “It’s hard to believe this all started because we went to the same coffee shop every Friday and Saturday. You caught my eye and I haven’t looked at anyone else since then. You fit perfectly into mine and Lily’s life and to be standing here with you now and with Lily and this little rosebud inside me… I’ve never felt a love like this before. I promise to always be your biggest fan and encourage you when you need it. You’re my love forever.”
You’re both crying and when rings are exchanged and the officiant is saying the last of his bit, Luke tucks your hair behind your ear moving closer.
“You may kiss your bride.”
Luke cups your cheek and you’re bursting with love and happiness at this first kiss you’re sharing with your husband. Claps and cheers echo around but you throw your arm around Luke’s shoulders so you can kiss him with more fervor. Your bouquet bounces off his back and you feel a few petals cascade down his shirt.
He chuckles against your mouth, his arms tight around your waist as he rests his forehead on yours. You’re staring into his pretty baby blues. The sound of cheering breaks your gaze and he takes your hand turning you to the crowd before exiting the aisle back into the house.
You and Luke had decided on spending some time alone after the ceremony before pictures and the reception started. So, you both crept downstairs into Ashton’s music room which was soundproof so you wouldn’t be distracted with the guests up above.
You toss your bouquet on the desk linking your arms behind his neck, smiling widely at him.
“Hi Mrs. Hemmings,” he greets with a chuckle.
“Hi Mr. Hemmings,” you giggle and press your lips to his.
The rest of your time alone is spent with tender kisses and soft conversation about the little things that lead up to this day and this moment.
After photos are taken its time for the party to begin. Everyone is dancing and having a great time. Lily is dancing with everyone and loves to spin as much as she can in her dress. She slow dances with Luke and Cory to a special song they both picked and then it’s time for you and Luke to dance to your song together, Stuck in Gravity by Of Monsters and Men.
He sings it lowly to you as you sway on the dancefloor, flashes from people’s cameras are almost like stars as you dance with your husband. When the song ends, Lily runs to you both and the three of you share a dance and get your photo taken from Andy.
The later it becomes, you notice Lily falling asleep in Calum’s arms and she’s wrapped up in his jacket. She’ll be spending the night at his place so you and Luke can have some alone time on your wedding night. You both kiss her goodnight when Calum decides to take her to his house.
When the last of the guests left, you and Luke were quick to head home. Even as you protested, he still carried you across the threshold and all the way up to your bedroom. He helps you remove your flower crown from your hair, plucking out stray petals with a soft smile.
He kisses your shoulder as he unzips your dress helping you step out of it. You undress him as well and then you’re both quick to get into bed. Luke’s kisses trail all along your body with his knee in between your legs.
“You’ve got to be quiet, lovie,” he sighs rubbing himself against your core. You moan feeling his hard on press against you. “Can’t wake our little rosebud.”
“She’s fast asleep,” you sigh, and he pushes inside you. You gasp, fingers flying to his shoulders and you squeeze as he stretches you open. “Oh Luke,” you moan as he fills you completely.
He braces himself so he’s not leaning on your belly and he begins a steady pace thrusting in you. Your nails scratch up and down his back and he slips his tongue in your mouth. You’re loving each other the only way you know how, wholeheartedly and with everything you’ve got.
You join your hips to his, he whimpers your name and you sigh his name in his ear, fingers tangled in his curls. Even though you’re both breathless, he kisses you until you’re both coming.
The wedding bands on your fingers clink together signifying your newfound bond.
●●●●●
The next few months of your pregnancy have gone by swimmingly. Your feet are still swollen but you aren’t that uncomfortable in the last trimester as the first two. Which is odd because with Lily your back ached up until you gave birth.
Luke has been doting on you with the help from Lily. Everyday she asks how ‘her baby’ is and talks to her sister all the time. It’s just the two of you home for the day and you’ve been feeling a little off since Luke left early to head to the studio for a recording session. You kept feeling a sharp pain in your lower back and when it shot to the front of your lower belly, you knew it was a contraction.
You noticed the time in between the pain you felt, and it was only forty-five minutes. Luke would be home soon so you busied yourself by gathering your things and you called up Cory letting him know you might be dropping Lily off soon.
The contractions became closer just as Luke got home, Lily running to meet him and you’re standing in the foyer with all your things ready to go.
“Are we going somewhere?” Luke smiles setting Lily down.
“Yeah, it’s time to go to the center,” you smile pointing to your stomach.
His eyes widen and he lifts Lily back up quickly in his arms.
“Luke—”
“But you aren’t due for another three weeks! Is something wrong? Are you in pain? Of course, you’re in pain, you’re in labor. Oh my God, we need to drop Lily off. Is Cory home? Does the center know we’re coming?”
“Luke!” you laugh now standing in front of him. You press your finger to his lips so he stops rambling. “I texted Cory, I’m okay and I called the birthing center. They’re waiting for us, it’s okay.”
“Okay, let’s go,” he nods.
He grabbed your things quickly and helped you waddle to the car. He made sure you were fastened before getting in on his own side of the car. Cory and Ella met you as soon as you pulled into the driveway taking Lily and her things, so you didn’t have to get out of the car.
They wished you luck and you had to reach over and take Luke’s hands so he wouldn’t drive too fast. You press your lips to the back of his knuckles calming him down and then laughing because he should be the one consoling you. But this is his first time experiencing this, so you let him channel through the emotions.
“You all right, lovie?” he asks glancing over at you as you run your lips over his middle knuckle.
“I’m good, how are you doing?” you smile.
“Nervous as hell,” he chuckles and pulls into the parking lot of the birthing center.
Much like when you were pregnant with Lily, you wanted to give birth at a birthing center and do a natural water birth. Your experience with Lily was amazing, the warm water aided in your pain from the contractions and in two pushes, your sweet little Lily was born into the world.
A nurse meets you at the door with a wheelchair all ready and Luke has the bags slung over both his shoulders. His face is a little pale so you twist your arm behind the chair so you can grab hold of his hand. As soon as he feels your touch, he looks down at you and he visibly relaxes.
He helps you change into a sports bra and some loose shorts, you left underwear off, so it’d be an easy transition into the whirlpool that’s in the room. The nurse asks you the usual questions of how far apart your contractions have been and then checks your cervix. You’re at five centimeters already.
“Seems like your little one wants to meet you very quickly,” the nurse, who’s name is Tilly. “I’ll go get some supplies and at the rate you’re going, I’ll start the water as well.”
“Thank you,” you smile watching her leave the room. You turn to Luke who sits next to you on the large bed, he gives you a small smile wrapping his arm around your shoulders. “How are you doing, daddy?”
“I should be asking you that.”
“You’re the one who’s shaking,” you whisper and clasp his hands in your own to steady them.
He lets out a shaky breath. “This is just happening so fast. I’m so excited but I’m so nervous, what if she doesn’t like me?”
“She already adores you; she kicks whenever you sing or talk to her.”
“We haven’t even picked a name yet! What if we look at her and have no idea?” he rests his forehead against your temple, kissing you gently but his worry rolls off in waves.
“We’ll know when we see her. When I was pregnant with Lily, I was dead set on naming her Charlotte. But when I looked at her, Lily just came about, and it was perfect. You can—” you gasp suddenly as another contraction hits and Luke sits up straighter.
“Breathe, lovie, breathe,” he soothes, and you exhale in a gasp. You feel the blood rush from your head from holding your breath for just that short amount of time. You focus on Luke’s hand on your back and the way his thumb is gliding over the back of your hand until the contraction passes.
After that last one the time between contractions were becoming shorter and shorter and Tilly started the water right away. Laying down didn’t help the constant ache that wrapped around from your lower back to the front of your belly, so you held Luke’s hand as you walked a little around the room.
He made sure to brace your back, his words soft and encouraging in your ear as you groaned out in pain.
“Y/N, let’s get you in the water so it will help with the pain and it seems like she’ll be coming very shortly,” Tilly says just as two more nurses come in and you kick off your shorts.
All three of them and Luke help lower you into the warm water, it envelops you like a hug and it dulls the sharp pain to something tolerable. Luke rubs your lower back and you’re so thankful he’s there with you. He’s peppering kisses against your sweaty temple and you feel another contraction coming but it also feels like you should push.
“Can I push? Is it too early to push?” you beg breathlessly wanting to expel the pressure you’re feeling.
“If you feel like you need to push, you push honey,” Tilly says leaning over the lip of the tub to examine your cervix. “She’s crowning so push away.”
“Shit, okay lovie, you can do this,” Luke is an instant cheerleader in your ear. Your hand is wet holding onto his while his other is on your shoulder. “She’s almost here, you’re so amazing. I love you so much.”
He continues to kiss your temple in between his encouraging words, and you push as hard as you can then fall back against him.
“Okay, she just moved a little bit out, one more big push!”
You suck in a deep breath and push with all your might until you feel a big sweep between your legs and then there’s a splash as Tilly lifts your baby girl from the water. You open your eyes and instantly start crying at the sight of her tiny limbs. Tilly places her on your chest and she’s so warm but shaking a little.
“Oh my God, she’s here,” Luke breathes.
Another nurse suctions out her nose and her mouth and then she starts to cry in that high-pitched way infants do. She’s already got a good amount of hair on her head and you give her multiple kisses, getting lost in her already.
“The placenta still has to come, but Suzie will clean her up and we’ll get you out, okay? Luke, you can cut the umbilical cord,” Tilly says.
The next moments happen in a blur because you just want to see your baby, and Luke is constantly shifting his focus on you and your new daughter before you’re back in the bed. Towels and blankets cover your lower half and then Suzie hands you your baby girl.
“Congratulations,” she smiles.
She’s swaddled in a lavender blanket with a little pink hat, her lips are pursed slightly, and you can already see a dimple in her cheek just like Luke’s. You look up at him and he’s staring at her in awe.
“Here, you hold her,” you tell him gently and he holds his arms out. He takes her carefully in his arms, he lets out a sigh of disbelief then smiles. “What do you think daddy?”
“She’s incredible,” he shakes his head and traces her nose with his pinky. “We made her, she’s so amazing.”
“What name does it look like she should have?” you rub his elbow affectionately and he sits next to you so you can admire her as well.
“I’ve got one. . . but what do you want?”
“I want whatever you want, you name her, Luke.”
“Posy. Posy Mae is her name,” he states and you’re instantly in love with it.
“Hello, my little Posy,” you coo stroking her cheek and she squirms in her blanket, a very small but very real smile appears. “I think she likes it.”
Cory and Ella bring Lily over a few hours later so she can meet her baby sister and she has a tiny purple elephant plush in her hands as a gift. Posy is swaddled and sound asleep in her bassinet and Luke holds Lily in his arms so she can look down at her.
“That’s your sister, my sweet. Her name’s Posy, can you say hi to her?” Luke asks as Lily peers over his arms to gaze down at Posy.
“Hi Posy. I’m Lily, you’re my baby sissy,” Lily tells her sweetly then she gasps when Posy wiggles. “She knows me, mama!”
“Of course, she does, baby! But we need to be quiet around her, okay?” you rest against the pillows happy to see your two girls together but exhausted from the whole ordeal.
“How’re you feeling?” Cory asks as Ella moves around the bed to gaze down at Posy. She talks quietly with Luke and Lily.
“Good. Tired. Happy,” you smile tiredly.
“We won’t stay long, but I knew you’d want Lily to meet her right away.”
“Thank you,” you smile.
Cory, Ella and Lily leave shortly after promising to be back tomorrow later in the morning. Lily gives you and Luke a big hug and kiss goodnight and Cory holds her tightly in his arms above the bassinet so she can give a soft kiss to Posy’s forehead.
“Bye baby,” she whispers and then they’re gone.
You catch Luke standing near her little crib a lot throughout the night just gazing down at her with the softest smile. Thankfully you’re inconspicuous and snap a photo of the precious moment and Luke takes many photos to send to the guys in their group chat.
The next day they’re all over when Cory, Ella and Lily are so they can all properly meet little Posy.
“That’s my sissy,” Lily tells her uncles proudly. Calum holds her in his arms as he looks down at Posy.
“She’s perfect, don’t you think, Lils?” Calum asks her and she nods, eyes fixed on Posy.
Michael and Ashton just stare at her which makes you laugh.
“She’s so small,” Michael whispers, “how is she so small?”
“I love her name,” Ashton smiles, “how’d you come up with it, Y/N?”
“It was all Luke,” you say proudly staring up at him. He bends down and gives you a kiss.
“I just looked at her and the name just came to me,” he shrugs lifting Posy from the crib. He begins to sway. “And her cheeks are rosy, so ‘rosy posy’ is what I thought of. But Posy is cuter than Rose, don’t you think?”
“It’s perfect, she’s definitely a Posy,” Ashton smiles down at her lovingly.
“Hey, why don’t you guys all sit on the bed and we’ll take your first family photo,” Calum says already pulling out his phone and sets Lily on the bed.
She crawls up into your lap and you wrap your arms around her little body just as Luke sits next to you. When you’re all situated, you look to Calum and smile and you feel like your heart will burst from how happy you are.
●●●●●
The first month with Posy took a while to get used to. It’s been so long since you had a newborn that you had to set up her schedule immediately. Luke is very good at waking up as soon as he hears her faint cries. He takes plenty of photos while they’re doing skin to skin bonding on the couch and he sings to her all the time.
Lily is the perfect little helper and she loves to give her kisses and talk to her while you’re sitting on the couch with her. One day when Posy was crying while you were getting her bottle ready, Lily tried shushing her by singing a song she made up and it actually soothed Posy’s cry.
“Look mama! I made Po not sad!” she told you excitedly and thus her nickname was formed.
When both girls were put to bed, Luke helped rub coconut lotion on your belly, giving you multiple kisses each night on your stretch marks. He’d yawn as he got into bed next to you, snuggling against your chest and you combed your fingers through his hair.
“How many times do you think she’ll wake up tonight?” Luke asks tiredly.
“Maybe we’ll get lucky and it will only be three,” you laugh lightly and kiss his head. Posy has been waking up at least four times a night, it’s hard getting her to sleep at night.
“I hope so, she needs her sleep just as much as we do. Thank you,” he kisses your neck.
“For what?” you caress your lips on his forehead, but Luke shifts slightly so he can look into your eyes.
“For loving me, for being my wife, and for making me a dad. I’ve got all my little flowers because of you, lovie,” he smiles warmly and stretches his lips to yours.

NOTES: Some nominal amount of smut ahead, and minor character death. NSFW. And, of course, Elsanna.
A small belated gift for Princess Anna's 194th birthday! Thanks to scuttlepantsworld and Aether_nb for helping to make this possible – or for giving me proper motivation and a prod in the right direction, at least. Commissions are still open at this time!
Yes, I know. It's been a thousand years to the day since chapter four was released. For the longest time, I vacillated between wanting to add to it and insisting the story was over; to be honest, I had never intended to write more than one chapter! But deep down, I knew the work was always unfinished. So the time has come to wrap it up and put it to bed forever. My writing style has changed in the years since, so I can only hope this manages to recapture the magic for those fans who have been waiting. And for the gawkers that just want a laugh… well, stay tuned for the epilogue, I guess.

Min Søsters Kjeder: Anna
Well, that didn't work out so great.
My heart felt like it was crystallising as Kristoff helped me to my feet just in front of the grand ice doors of my sister's palace. So Elsa had rejected me. Again. She cast me out into the cold she created because she didn't think I could handle the "new Elsa" — that she had apparently been suppressing for years and years. Maybe our whole lives. As usual, pathetic little Princess Anna just wasn't worth clueing in on all the fine details. No matter how much headway we make, no matter how many walls and doors I try to knock down, she summons new ones of glittering sub-zero moisture to stand in our way.
"Hey, we should do something about this."
"About what?" I asked distantly, still staring up at the shimmering ice slide that had deposited us where we were currently crouched, breath fogging on the air. "I really don't think she's gonna let me in again. Not anytime soon. She's stubborn like that sometimes." Like I wasn't stubborn.
"Your hair." I looked up into his concerned eyes as he reached up with a gloved hand, batting at the newly-whitened hairs of my fringe. "It's… I can tell what this is, Anna. I've seen it before."
My brow furrowed. "What… Kristoff, what are you talking about, you've seen this? Am I the only one in the dark around here about ice magic?!"
Now he looked a little uncomfortable. And I took full advantage — by storming for the staircase again. Obviously I slipped right back down, but that didn't stop me from grunting and growling, trying to claw my way up the perfectly slick surface.
"What are you doing?" he asked in a weary tone.
"Going… to see… my sister!" I grunted, before falling on my butt.
"Huh," Olaf put in. "Maybe you know something I don't, but that doesn't seem to be working out so great for you."
"OOF! Are you guys gonna help me up there or not?!"
But we never had a chance for them to give me a boost. My new friend and my old snowman — or our old snowman, I suppose — were too busy gasping in horror. It took me a little longer than it should have before I turned to see the towering snow-giant, menacing-yet-soft features glaring down at us.
"Oh. Not… I guess."
                                                                ~ o ~
My life became a series of rude awakenings after that. They made me miss doors in my face; at least those weren't dangerous and scary.
First, we got thrown out of the palace by my sister's new snow-beast. And that wasn't nice. Then Kristoff had the bright idea that he should take me to see his "love expert" friends — who turned out to be his family. Even worse rude awakening, because I had never met any magical beings that weren't my sister or the semi-frozen creations she seemed to whip up without even thinking about it. TROLLS. Real, live, rocky, mossy trolls! And on top of that, they decided I was about to marry Kristoff, because… I don't actually know! They just decided! Wow, were they eccentric, and a little annoying.
But they were the ones that sent me back to Elsa's palace. See, their king — maybe he was a sage, or a bishop? — explained that because my sister's magic had crept its way into my heart, even though I wasn't sure how or when, that there was nothing he could do. Only an act of true love could thaw a frozen heart.
And there was only one person I loved. Sure, Kristoff was okay, and Hans loved me, and Olaf and Sven were buddies. Nothing wrong with friendship! But there was a queen in my life that I felt such a deep level of love for that no force on Earth could break it, and I knew she felt the same for me. Even if she wasn't always good at showing it. So if I was going to get defrosted from anybody, I was definitely going to go with the prime candidate.
Problem was…

"I can't believe she was gone!"
"These tracks will lead us straight to her," Kristoff reassured me for what was probably the twelfth time as we galloped toward Arendelle. "Don't worry, I'll get you to Queen Elsa!"
"What happened?" I asked weakly, shivering as I curled even tighter against him. "A-all that destruction, all those hoofprints…"
He shook his shaggy blonde mane as he spurred his reindeer faster and faster. My heart was filled with deeper dread the larger the kingdom loomed in my vision. All I wanted was to be home. To curl up by a fire and rest… and see my sister. I wanted that above all else.
Kristoff got me to the gates. The officials didn't want to let him in, and I didn't have the brainpower to argue anymore; my entire focus was on Elsa, on fighting my way to her side. Seeing her dazzling blue eyes and her soft white locks above me, sliding my hands around her trim waist…
"Prince Hans!" Kai called as he and Gerda steered me into the meeting room. I felt lucky that the ice magic's effects were minimal; otherwise, I would have been barely able to walk by now. I saw several dignitaries gathered around Hans, including the Weasel himself. Odin Allfather, didn't that guy have a life at all? Or enough sense to notice nobody wanted him around?
"Anna!" my suitor gasped out, rushing over to embrace me tightly. Oh yeah… I kind of forgot in all the craziness that the last time I talked to him, we were supposed to be getting married. I'd have to straighten that out later.
"Hans! I… I have to find out what happened to my sister!"
He seemed stunned. "What? What do you mean? She left Arendelle, she left us all to deal with this winter."
"But I saw the hoofprints leading back here! From the North Mountain! Where… I know she's here, I can feel it!" And I could, I swear I felt her presence. Maybe it was just me fooling myself… or maybe it was just gas.
Hans opened his mouth to protest, but just then another guard came in, standing ramrod straight and saluting. "Her Majesty has refused any food or drink, Sir. What shall we…" Only then did he notice me there, and he saluted again — harder, if possible. "Princess Anna! You have returned! Then… you were not…?"
"Were not what?" I asked. When the rest of the people in the room began to mutter, I looked around more frantically. "Okay, I'm getting a little tired of the information wagon not wheeling in my direction! What in the fjord is going on?!"
"Listen," Hans breathed with a slight crease in his handsome brow, "I think you all should leave for a moment. Princess Anna is clearly overcome — and she is frozen to the bone. We need to give her some time, I need to take care of her and let her warm herself by the f-"
"NO. You can stay here and talk to these guys if you want; I have a mission." I turned to point at the guard. "You! Fred, or something!"
"Fredek, Your Highness," he said with a stiff bow, still looking a little out of sorts. Everybody did.
"That's what I said. Is my sister here?"
"Y-yes, but she is-"
"Where?" Hesitation. Again. "Hey, am I the princess around here or WHAT?! Take me to Elsa now! Right now!"
                                                                ~ o ~
Nothing could have prepared me for that trip up into the tower. When we were little, Elsa and I would sometimes go up there to play, pretending one of us was the monster that was holding the other captive. We would imagine our castle was Soria Moria, taking turns playing a princess — since we were always princesses and playing was about escapism — and Halvor, the hero. We usually wound up just squealing and rolling around in fear that the troll with three heads would gobble us up, starting with our toes. That was what our father always told us would happen if we didn't behave.
Father…
Not for the first time, I fretted over what he would think about all this. Had he known? Had Mother? Did they have magic of their own, and just never bothered to reveal it to me? Nah, that would be completely crazy; I would know if my parents had anything magical in their backgrounds. Still, nobody ever told me about Elsa, so it was possible. It would have been easy to let bitterness take over my heart, thinking about how left out I had been my entire life until now.
But wasn't I doing something every bit as depraved as them keeping secrets? By falling head over heels for my own sister?
"I'm sorry, Princess, you cannot pass. I have my orders."
"Skadi can have your stupid orders! That is my sister and I'm going to see her, and… and I'm the princess, and you are not. So there!"
"That has nothing to do with-"
"You're ORDERED to open this door! NOW!" That was starting to work pretty well for me. The man sighed and unlocked the door, pulling it open. "Okay, get out of here."
"Excuse me?"
"I need to speak with my sister in private! And if you're hanging around out here… just-" I shoved at him impatiently. "Go wait at the bottom of the stairwell, or something! I don't care, just don't let us be disturbed or I'm going to…" Sentence him to death? I couldn't even pretend to be that mean. "Or I'll turn you into a stable-boy, and you'll be shovelling horse dritt for the rest of your life!"
Honestly, I've never seen a soldier in full armour sprint down stairs before.
"Who's there?" croaked a weak voice as I crept into the chamber, yanking the door shut behind me. "Is… you have to tell me, have they found Anna?"
"Nope," I said with a smirk. "She's totally still missing. Probably got eaten by a muskox."
The blue-tinted form on the cot shifted and stirred, and a disheveled head of platinum blond hair raised to squint through the darkness at me. Wow, she looked a lot more rough than I expected… because never in my life had I seen her look anything less than perfect. Not even when we were little.
"I…" Once she had seen me with her own eyes, she let out a long, shaky sigh of relief. "We don't… muskoxen aren't even carnivores."
"No?" I grunted as I plopped down on the floor right next to her, not even caring how dirty the dungeon was. Can you have a dungeon in a tower? Is that not the same thing? Maybe there's another word. "Well fine, I got turned into grass by some other magical person, and then the muskox ate me."
"Stop that. I was so worried when Hans told me, and here you are making fun of me for worrying. That isn't nice."
"Uh huh. It's totally nice, because I'm playing with you. Remember how to play?"
Elsa smiled softly to herself, glancing at the tiny window. The sky was definitely awake; I knew that's what she was thinking because it was what I was thinking. Crazy how sometimes, we could be so in sync, and other times…
"I remember," she admitted under her breath. "What do you think I keep thinking about the entire time I've been up here?"
The smile that broke out over my face was bright enough to eclipse the sun. It turned just a little wicked as I stood tall with my fists on my hips and proclaimed, "Hutetu, what a smell of Christian man's blood!"
That made my sister turn to look at me with wide eyes. Which promptly rolled before she mumbled, "Oh Anna, please, anything but that…"
"Come on, you know this!" I hissed. "Just kill the troll, Halvor — cut off all my heads! Then you can sweep the youngest princess-sister off her feet!" For real, this time. In hindsight, maybe it was because we spent so much time pretending to marry each other as kids that led us to the big i-word.
"And how am I supposed to do that?" she asked, raising her hands…
My heart seemed to grow yet colder in my chest as I looked at those gleaming manacles. I'd never seen anything quite like them; they encircled Elsa's hands completely instead of just binding her at the wrists, and chains led from their tips to a metal plate bolted to the middle of the floor. Wasn't that weird? Why would any such thing exist?
Come to think of it… since when had this tower been a dungeon? It was always cold and forbidding, but the iron bars had not been there when we were little, pretending it was Soria Moria. Not that I trusted my memories much anymore after finding out my sister had ice powers and never told me.
Still, I could put two-and-two together. "Elsa, this prison… did you…?"
"Not I alone," she sighed weakly, staring down into her icy lap as she fidgeted on the cold-looking stone cot. "Father had this commissioned."
"Father wouldn't-"
"I insisted. I made him and Mother see that it was for the best, even if… if they did not want to put me in a cage. But sometimes we need cages, Anna — to protect everyone else from what's inside."
"So what, now you just… you're going to sit up here while an eternal winter rages throughout Arendelle? That's so- I can't believe you would neglect your duties to this kingdom. Don't you see we need you?"
Her brow furrowed as she turned away again. "No. Look what I have done so far. Why would anyone need a queen as unstable as me? Who can't even control her own curse?"
"Curse? Do you not remember- didn't you see Olaf? Real and as alive as you and me? You did that! And you built that beautiful castle, and made this dress- really gorgeous, by the way, I didn't get a chance to say it before."
At least I made her chuckle. A tiny bit. It didn't last long before she was brooding again, staring toward the window. "You're too sweet. Maybe… maybe I shouldn't have interfered."
"Interfered in what?"
"You and… what was his name? Hans. Or that large man who helped you find me."
"Kristoff. Wait… are you trying to marry me off to some man I just met? After all that?!"
"Anna, you deserve a chance at happiness with a man who can take care of you. If you keep pining after me, deluding yourself into thinking we can be something more than we are… then I'm afraid you'll never be happy. And that would hurt me more than I can bear, especially knowing it's my fault! All I have ever wanted is to make sure you are taken care of. That you're safe, and whole, and happy."
"Then why did you spend over a decade shutting me out? Huh? Could you really not remember how much I loved you? Didn't you realize how that was going to hurt me, losing my sister — my best friend?" So maybe it wasn't very nice, but I couldn't help it; I lost my temper.
"I…" Her chest was rising and falling more rapidly, eyes narrowing thanks to the force of the furrow in her brow. It almost looked like she was panicking again, like she had at the coronation ball. "It wasn't my decision, but wasn't it for the best? I couldn't hurt you again. And us being together, especially the way we've been recklessly exploring the past couple of days… I can only see that ending one way."
"Elsa…" Knowing I had made a mistake, I approached her and laid a hand on her shoulder. Yes, she tensed up, but when nothing bad happened she relaxed. "I'm sorry. Maybe this has been rough on you, too, but I still don't think staying away from me was the best plan. Why couldn't we have tried to work on this togeth-"
"What part of 'I didn't want to hurt you again' is confusing for you? Why are you always so stubborn, Anna?!"
My temper threatening to rise again in response to hers, I snapped back, "The 'again' part, you jerk! Literally the only thing that ever hurt me was losing you!"
"No, it isn't! You just don't remember because of the trolls-"
Elsa cut off, her expression full of misery as she turned away. Lately, I felt like I was messing up all the time. Pushing too much. I didn't want to, I just… when I see something is wrong, I have this compulsion to fix it. How can anybody do any better if they don't try?
"I've been to the trolls. They said… well, they said if we don't do something soon, this is going to get worse."
"What is?" But this time, when she looked at me — really looked — she noticed. "Oh. Oh, Anna, it's getting worse…"
"How do you know about the trolls?" I asked suspiciously, scooting forward to make sure she couldn't escape my gaze so easily. "Wait — did you always know my hair was going to get more white? The way you said that…"
"No, no, they said they fixed it," she breathed, voice strained as if she were barely keeping her emotions in check. "I can't do this!"
"Elsa, for once I need you to actually listen to me and answer my questions! How do you know about the trolls, and what do you mean, this has happened before? And why don't I ever remember you having ice magic until your coronation? The more I think about it, the crazier it seems I wouldn't have noticed something that insane! Hey, I know I'm dumb, but I'm not that dumb!"
Suddenly, my sister's icy irises blazed with anger as she turned to look at me. "Don't you say that, Anna. You are not dumb. I have never mistaken your openness and your vibrance, and the naïvety that your excitement leads to sometimes, for stupidity."
Why did that turn me on? Talk about an inappropriate reaction!
"O-oh. Well… wow, Elsa, thank you. Um, I didn't expect you to say anything like that, I thought you would agree with me. Or something. I don't know." Desperately wishing I could force the blush out of my cheeks was distracting me from being able to string words together.
"Alright." Clearly relieved that I had accepted what she said instead of arguing, she closed her eyes for a moment. A long moment. "As I said, this is not the first time my magic has hurt you, no matter how hard I try to protect you. And there's a reason you-"
"Come on, Elsa! Why haven't you figured out yet that I don't need protection? Not from my best friend!" My body seemed to take on a life of its own, demanding I get closer to my sweet sister, that I show her how true my feelings really were. Otherwise, how would she ever see?
"Anna, wait-"
"I love you," I breathed as she backed into the corner, even though I was keeping pace, my hands pawing at her arms through her dress. The chains pulled taut beneath me and I saw my sister lurch from the unexpected resistance on her arms; I hadn't been paying much attention to them, I was so focused on getting closer to her. But then-
Then I let out the whimper. My sister whispered fearfully, "Anna? Anna, what's wrong?"
"Mmhhh, I didn't… well that's new…" My thighs flexed as I rubbed myself against the steel links that were now firmly between my thighs, vision going blurry briefly from the powerful surge of pleasure.
"What… are-" The gasp made it pretty obvious she had figured it out. "Anna, you stop that right now!"
"Why? It's… I mean, why can't I take a quick little break?" That was a pretty weak defense. Mostly, I was aware of how insane and depraved what I was doing was, but every second I was away from Elsa made my desire triple. At least, it really felt that way to me.
"We have…" Maybe it was the expression on my face, or maybe the sounds I was making, but I could start to see the colour rising in her cheeks. "Anna, we were in the middle of an important conversation. Please, can't your libido wait a minute or two?"
"I can… multitask…" At her glare, I finally brought my greedy pelvis to a stop. "You're right! You're right, I'm really sorry. I just already wanted you so bad, and then those chains hit me just right in- okay, shutting up," I added when I saw her death glare.
"Thank you. Now… I know this isn't going to be easy for you to hear. But I have hurt you before, when we were children. I wish I didn't have to explain it to you, I wish I could let you go on thinking nothing was wrong, but it's clear to me now that you will never stop fighting to get closer to me unless I explain why you can't do that. No matter what we both want, it just isn't meant to be."
"Okay, I… do not like that part. But the rest is good! We should be talking about these things — I mean, how are we ever going to fix things between us if we don't? So…" Oh wow, it was almost impossible to keep still.
"Your hips are moving."
"So what? My hips are here, my hips are th- ooooh, maybe they shouldn't go there. Okay, I stopped. So you hit me with some of your magic when we were kids and it gave me a white streak in my hair, and you guys took me to the trolls and they erased my memory and healed me right up? That pretty accurate?"
I couldn't remember ever seeing my sister look so completely shocked before. Literally had no words. It's too bad she didn't have something like that she could say to me, because I'm the chatterbox who needs to be quieted down sometimes.
"What? I mean, you left me some pretty easy dots to connect, and you just said I'm not as dumb as I look."
"I didn't- you don't look dumb, either! You are a beautiful young woman who could have anyone in the kingdom!"
Grinning, I whispered, "Aww, really?"
"Anna, please, try to pay attention. Don't you see how dangerous this is? Twice now I have gotten too close, let my attention lapse, and twice now I have hurt you. Can't you understand why I need to be kept away from you?"
Of course, I did feel my heart grow a little colder for just a second. But then I shook my head hard and glared at her. "Yeah. Yeah, I can see how you would think that — even how our parents could think that. Because they don't get it at all, and neither do you."
She looked so bone-weary when I started to crawl closer. Was hard not to take that personally. "Anna… what is it that you think you understand that I don't?"
"True love."
"What?"
"The trolls…" I shivered for a moment. It was getting worse, so I had to push ahead. "They said only an act of true love can thaw a frozen heart. So don't you see? If you kiss me-"
"NO. Anna, you have to listen to me! Stop this nonsense!" She was breathing hard in panic again now that our faces were only a couple of inches apart. Crystals formed on her eyelashes from the tears she couldn't fully shed. "I can't. Why don't you see I can't be that person for you? I'm a woman — your sister, the queen of the kingdom! No one will allow us to be together!"
Her words stabbed into me roughly like bayonets. Like icicles she was driving into my heart. And I could see fear blossoming in her eyes, could feel the cold creeping along my cheeks. Confirmation wasn't necessary; I knew I was getting worse. The magic was stealing me from the world. And Elsa just couldn't see that she was the only one who had the power to roll back the frozen tide.
"They aren't who counts," I breathed, my teeth beginning to chatter. Then… my hips started moving again.
"Anna, this is not the-"
"I'm going to freeze if I don't move. Don't you want to help me?" When she remained immobile, a little desperation crept into my voice as my brow furrowed. "Elsa…"
"I can't help. All I can do is make it worse," she sobbed brokenly. Even if she couldn't understand, at least she wasn't hiding anything from me anymore. Baby steps are all you get sometimes.
"Can't get worse than this!" I tried to joke. And when she only began to cry harder, I reached up to caress her soft cheek. "Come on… pick your princess, Halvor. You've b-been through so much…"
And she did kiss me. I had really been hoping that would break the curse. It didn't. But I was still going to enjoy this moment to the fullest. Hey, if it's your last one on the mortal plane, heck, why wouldn't you?
The deeper our kiss grew, the stronger my urges rose. It seemed to be helping me fight off the cold, so I renewed my efforts, grinding myself hard against those firm chains through the layers of Oaken's winter wardrobe. And my dear, beautiful sister no longer wasted any breath trying to convince me to stop; she did the one thing I had always wanted her to do, ever since we were little.
She supported me.
"Mmmhhhah!" I gasped when I was getting close. "Elsa! I love you!"
"Anna-"
"Never forget! Do you understand me?" Hazy as my vision was, I could still see the furrow of concern in her brow, how rapidly she was breathing. My poor big sister was terrified on my behalf. Screwed up as that might be, it felt amazing. She actually cared about me! "Don't you ever… forget that I love you, and I never blamed you, and I… all I ever wanted was to be close to you again! And you're giving that to me, and I am so, so happy!"
Tears slipping down her cheeks and shattering on the stone floor, Elsa rasped out, "Anna, you can't go! You're the one that deserves to stay — you have never done anything wrong! It's me! I am the monster, I cursed you, and I should be the one who is slain!"
"So what?! You… didn't do anything wrong, either!" But she didn't believe me. Of course. So I had to give her something different, something that would meet her needs. "A-and I forgive you! For anything, everything, whatever you think you need forgiveness for, you got it, sis!"
We kissed again. I only wished we could have had that conversation when I wasn't riding a couple of lengths of chain; it was definitely a little weird. But the burning between my thighs demanded I keep going, and it also felt like if I stopped, the cold would win. So on I bucked, over and over into that unrelenting metal-
Elsa did a little something for me that finished me off. And I can't even fully explain it, but I had no idea anybody could use their tongue like that.
"HMMNHHH!" was the only noise I could make because our mouths were joined together, but I felt like it was enough for her to understand. The orgasm that stole over my body was both satisfying and unsatisfying, because I was still so far away from the one I loved despite the passion joining our lips. But it would have to do. At least most of the frost had been rolled back from my body so I could function again.
Once the high faded, and the blaze in my crotch was back to being a dull ache again, we finally broke the kiss to look into each other's eyes. And there was understanding. I could see now that Elsa might still try to resist, and would probably always have anxiety about hurting me, but she was no longer deluded that we weren't meant to be together. She got it. Better late than never, I guess.
"Sooooo, your turn, Big Sis? Let me under that ice dress. Gotta show my appreciation."
"Anna!"
"Hey, you wouldn't happen to have that fork with you, would you? Maybe in here?"
Elsa only had enough time to chuckle and roll her eyes before the door burst open. My finger instantly jerked back from where it had been inching below her neckline as I whirled to yell at whoever had interrupted us.
But it was Hans. Not just him, but the guard I had sent on an early lunch break. Both had swords drawn, but now they were definitely looking like they didn't know which way was up.
"Princess!" Hans gasped. "Are you alright? We heard you struggling to breathe!"
"I-I'm fine!" I laughed nervously, privately thinking I was really getting tired of people barging in on me right after I came. Maybe I should invest in a Do Not Disturb sign that I could just carry with me wherever I went…
"What have you done to her?" he demanded of Elsa, glowering. She shrank away, instantly on the defensive, so I held out my hands toward both of them.
"Stop! Listen, nobody did anything, everything is fine! We were just talking, and… and trying to figure it all out!"
"Princess, I advise you stay away from her. She nearly killed the guards when they found her on North Mountain!"
When I turned to my sister with a question in my eyes, she winced, shoulders hunching up toward her ears. "I-it was an accident. They were trying to kill me, I was only defending myself!"
"Trying to kill you? They were part of the search party — we only came looking because Princess Anna had disappeared."
"But they attacked! And they weren't even guards from Arend-"
"Please take the princess to safety," Hans instructed the guard. But I wasn't focusing on that for the moment. He had already picked me up and moved me away from the chains before the little seed of thought began to sprout.
"Not from Arendelle?" I had to raise my boot and brace it against the door frame to keep from being shoved out of the tower. "Wait, wait, what did I miss?"
Hans sounded very regretful the moment he started speaking. "Those were Weselton's men. I thought it would be good to have more in our search party, but perhaps I was wrong. They seemed to have their own agenda. But you still had nearly taken their lives when I found you, Queen Elsa. Perhaps if you weren't so aggressive with your sorcery, one of them wouldn't have tried to take you out with the crossbow."
So much of what he said made sense, and I understood the shame and regret in my sister's face. She didn't want to be a killer, she didn't want to hurt anyone. And the more I learned, the more I understood why.
"This is still my fault, Hans," I sighed as the guard finally put me down, seeming to realize he wasn't going to have any more success if he kept at it. Stubborn as a mule. "She was fine until I started pushing her, messing with her ability to… to keep it all in check. So if anybody should be in chains, it's me."
Turning back to me, Hans took up my hands and squeezed tightly. Oh, the pain, the… awkward. Yeah, it's super awkward holding hands with the guy you once told you were ready to marry but suddenly realized you only wanted to tie the knot with a blood-related sibling.
"Anna, you aren't responsible for your sister's decisions. She has still put this entire kingdom in danger. Don't you think she should answer for that crime?"
"Only if I answer for the same crime! Didn't you hear me? I provoked her into it, I was- was being a stinker, she felt trapped!"
"Don't be absurd," he responded a little more firmly, lips pressing flat. "You never forced her to unleash eternal winter! Besides, if both of you are tried for treason, how will you and I rule over Arendelle? There will be no one left to take the throne."
I blinked a few times. "What? You and I- oh, Hans. If only you were the one I love." While he was busy looking more confused than ever, I shrugged helplessly. "My sister was right. I was just caught up in the excitement of having a new friend, someone who would listen, and I didn't stop to realize… there's no way what we had could be true love after only a few hours."
"So… then…" Man, he was really breathing hard now. I felt like a colossal jerk for doing this to him, but I didn't want to live a lie. Not for a single second. That would only make this harder in the long run. "So that's all there is to it? You can't see your way to giving me… a chance? Maybe we were hasty, but that doesn't have to-"
"It does. My heart belongs to another."
You know, it's funny. Even while I was sharing a longing gaze with Elsa, small, knowing smiles on our lips as we felt our hearts warm with the power of love, Hans still didn't realize who I was talking about. Maybe that says something about me, or maybe it says something about men. About people in general. That's a question I can't really answer.
"Who?" was what he asked when he found his voice again.
"It's a secret," I compromised. Again, Elsa rolled her eyes, but I was starting to get used to that. It didn't make me feel belittled anymore.
"I see. That… that is regrettable."
Elsa still held my eyes when I heard the sickly sound of metal sliding through metal. Mostly, I just found it really annoying, but when I turned to figure out what it was and how to stop it…
"NO!" Elsa burst out before I could react.
"Alright," Hans grunted as he dragged the sword out of the guard's back. The blade gleamed red as the man curled his fingers around the spot it had protruded from his chest with the last of his breath, then sagged to the stone floor. "But I do regret having to resort to such unpleasantness."
Skadi. The guard was dead. As much tragedy as my sister and I had been through over the years, I have never seen someone die right in front of me before. Never had to watch the light of life fading from someone's eyes, never had to know his family would mourn him because of something I had witnessed firsthand. It was beyond horrible.
"You… what have you done?" Elsa was muttering in a distant voice, just as disbelieving as I was but somehow still able to speak while I was completely mute.
"Only what I had to do. Oh, it would have been so much simpler and more elegant if you could have been tried for treason and executed, Your Majesty." How could he look so casual, striding over to flick that sword at me — spraying me with some of the blood? What a sadist. "You really are a danger to everyone here, I can see that. But now that I know Anna will never consent to marry me, well… as I said, this change of plans is regrettable, but I seem to have no other choice."
"No," I breathed as he advanced on me, and I felt my heart jumping into my throat, pounding loud as a timpani. "Hans, y- stop! What do you think you're doing, how can you be so, so…"
He shrugged carelessly, as if none of this mattered to him. Maybe it didn't. I would say I knew better, but clearly I didn't know a damn thing about anything. "As the thirteenth in line in my own kingdom, I didn't stand a chance. I knew I would have to marry into the throne somewhere. Being the firstborn heir, Elsa was preferable, of course, but no one was getting anywhere with her."
"Excuse me?" Elsa snapped, clearly a lot more outraged now that he was focused on me while holding a bloody sword. Can't say I blame her; shoe on the other foot, I would be just as riled up. "I am not a prize to be w-"
"But you? Oh, Anna, you were so desperate for attention. Probably weren't getting any at home." Only then did he bother to spare a smirk for Elsa, which shot her fury through with agony — just like he wanted. Now I could see his little calculations playing out behind his beady eyes. How could I have ever thought they were dreamy before?
"Hans, you d-don't know what you're talking about," I chattered, the cold beginning to grow again. As focused as I was on Hans, and the way snowflakes were swirling around our heads because Elsa was mad and scared and stressed, there was no warmth of our sisterly bond to counter the prince's frigid scheme. "You don't know what you're doing!"
"Don't I?" Suddenly that cunning smile changed to a stricken expression. "I… I couldn't believe the queen could do that to the guard, her own sister. There was nothing I could do, I- I had to protect myself when she came at me. But at least Anna and I got to say our marriage vows… before she died in my arms."
Even while he was holding himself tightly, I gave a sarcastic clap and sneered, "Oh wow, what a ham. Nobody's ever going to buy that barrel full of last year's lutefisk."
"Won't they?" His expression turned cold as he raised the sword overhead, aiming to strike true. I was dead and I knew it. After everything we had been through, this was going to be the end. How disappointing. "The evidence will be compelling, if I do say so mysel-!"
But the blow never landed. Even if Elsa's hands were bound, the rest of her wasn't; I'm really not sure why neither of us had quite paid attention to that little detail. Hans certainly wasn't going to forget it anytime soon after she shoulder-charged him, sending him bouncing into the far wall. The crunch would have been sickening if it weren't, well… him.
"Elsa!" I gasped. "Whoa, you really cleaned his clock! Since when were you such a… oh!"
That was as far as I got before I was scrambling back against the wall, watching the cuffs around her hands frost over just before they shattered completely. I had to shield my eyes from the shrapnel, and when I lowered my arms again… for the first time in my life, I felt honestly, truly afraid of my sister — because that look in her fair features was even more vicious than the one Hans had been wearing a moment ago. Bloodthirsty.
Vengeant.
"WHOA!" I barely gasped out as I latched onto her elbows. Mostly to keep her from raising the ice sword she had just conjured out of the air. "Wait, easy, what are- what are you going to do?!"
"Ending his life." At least she wasn't pussyfooting around the subject.
"You can't!"
"Why not?!" she demanded, still struggling against me. And my sister was clearly stronger than I gave her credit for, because she was almost lifting me off the ground with the force of her arms. Again, hotter than it had any right being, especially in the middle of a life-and-death situation. "He was going to end yours! He doesn't deserve to live!"
"Because he's not worth it! Because…" I let go and quickly moved around to put myself between her and Hans. "Because I don't want to see my sister turn into a murderer. Okay? We already got him outnumbered — it's over! You don't have to kill him anymore!"
Her voice was as flinty as her deep blue eyes. "Anna, move."
"No! You can't kill him and still be the woman I love!"
I saw her hesitate. And just being that close to her, staring into her eyes, I felt the love bursting within my heart. Anybody would do anything for her, and… it's me. I'm 'anybody'.
Then she was knocking me to one side with an icy blast. My head bounced off the stone of the tower wall, dazing me slightly, but she hadn't thrown me far or hard enough for it to do any real injury. Mostly, I felt sick that my love wasn't enough to stop her from committing murder. As she brought the sword down, I screamed…
But it only clanged against steel. We had run out of time; Hans had recovered and was about to strike. Even as I watched them struggling against each other, teeth gritted in concentration as they tried to overpower their opponent, it slowly caught up to me: she didn't ignore my pleas. That bastard had been about to make another attempt on my life.
My sister just kept saving me.
"You'll… never take me!" he snarled into her features as he began to back her towards the opposite wall. With his ginger hair disheveled and that deranged expression on his face, he definitely no longer looked like the handsome prince who worked so hard to charm my pants off. Now he just looked like… Weselton. "You might have magic, but underneath that? You're nothing but a scared little girl, trying to fend off a man with true ambition! You are NOTHING!"
"Yes!" she grunted, struggling down onto one knee but still valiantly pressing back his attack, despite the cracks forming in her sword. Then she suddenly smiled fiercely. "But do you… know what's… stronger than a man with ambition?"
"What?!" he demanded with that vicious, taunting smile. "Love?"
Of course, that was all he ever got to say, because that next second I was bringing down the fallen guard's heavy helmet right on the back of his head. I could see the smile turn to a look of shock in the reflection of their swords just before he crumpled to the ground, completely unconscious. I really didn't hold back.
"Sorority, you dope," I snapped down at him, casually dropping the helmet onto his back. "You should know better than to mess with sisters."
"Anna!" Elsa gasped as her sword vanished completely. It didn't take her long to scramble to her feet and throw her arms around me, clutching me so tightly to her body that I actually felt winded. "Oh, Anna…"
"It's okay, Elsa. I'm here, I'm fine."
"Your head- you're sure? I didn't want to throw you but-"
"I get it, I get it," I laughed as she pulled back to pet over the side of my head. "Crazy way to protect someone, but I guess it's better than getting stabbed. Thanks."
"Oh. Your hair…"
"I know," I sighed. "But it's okay, Elsa. We'll figure it out together. Please don't feel guilty anymore; I know you never meant to hurt me, not back then and not now."
"No — Anna…" Eyes sweeping the little tower cell, she came upon the guard's sword. As she unsheathed it, for a wild moment I was afraid she was going to kill Hans while he was unconscious, but instead she held it up in front of my face.
And now I could see what she was talking about. "What's- huh?! Where'd my white streak go — why am I all auburn again?"
"I… I don't know." And I could tell she was legitimately confused. "Do you feel any different? Do you remember feeling anything different?"
"No, I…" But I did.
So many memories came flooding back the second I focused my mind on them. Building Olaf together in the ballroom, not outside during a wintry day. Dragon feet. Cuddling close to our mother as she sang us a lullaby, my eyelids getting heavy… All memories I had before. But they were different now; changed by something that had been hidden that was now in the light.
"Do the magic," I whispered softly, my eyes welling with tears.
"Oh," she breathed, just as misty as I was as she dropped the sword and yanked me into another clinging embrace. "Oh, Anna, I'm so sorry. I never wanted any of this, I just wanted us to be happy! But Pabbie said to keep you safe… I had to learn to control my power. But I can't."
"Oh, I think you can. I know you can." Pressing my fingertips into her back, I whispered softly, "You're my magical sister, and the strongest person I know. You can do anything." When she didn't respond at all, just sobbed gently into my shoulder, I smiled and asked her, "What were you going to say?"
"What?" she blubbered.
"Before I bonked Hans on the noggin. You had been going to say there was something stronger than a man with ambition…? I interrupted, sorry about that."
"Don't be sorry," she laughed wetly. "But… I was going to agree with him. It's love. I would do anything for my family, and I know you would do the same. And a man like him would never understand that."
"Yeah, sheesh. You'd think a guy with thirteen brothers would get it even more! But apparently they were pretty rotten."
Finally, Elsa drew back from the hug to cup my cheek, her expression full of so much adoration that I almost had to pinch myself to see if this was real. "I'm so glad you're safe, and so glad you are finally whole again. Even if I'm not quite sure how."
"Me, either. The trolls told me 'only an act of true love can thaw a frozen heart', like I said. But I mean, if they meant getting myself off with your chains, well, that's pretty weird, even for people that grow mushrooms out of their backs!"
Elsa laughed a little — at first, then she grew thoughtful as her fingers combed through my fringe. "Love will thaw, hm? Well… I think… I'm starting to understand."
The room was silent for a few seconds. "So are you going to share with the class, or…?"
"Anna, don't you see? It wasn't the kiss — and certainly not your indiscretion with my chains. You healed yourself. Putting your body between Hans and I was what unfroze your heart, and I guess your head."
"Wait, what? Putting my- that was just because I didn't want you to have to kill that jerk. I couldn't stand the thought that my sister would have blood on her hands just because of me."
"And that's true love. Even if it was a little reckless."
"Hey! You could at least not make fun of me for trying to help my smmmph…"
That was as far as I got before she was drawing me into a gentle kiss. Melting into her arms was as easy as it ever was, pouring all of my longing and gratitude into her lips as our hearts beat as one. And of course, she was right; I guess protecting Hans, even if it was just to keep my sister's conscience clear… that was an act of love. For her.
A little at a time, we could hear commotion drifting up from downstairs. After taking a moment to slip handcuffs onto my former fiance's wrists, we went to investigate.
"Ohhhh, the storm is over," I breathed as I looked out the windows. "That's a relief; at least we can walk around outside without getting knocked down."
"Yes… but why…?" I turned to look at my sister, seeing her hand at her chin as her mind raced. She looked like a little junior detective when she did that. "Love will thaw. Do you really think…?"
"Think what?" But she was already grabbing my hand. "Hey!"
"Guards!" she snapped at the two who had also been gawking at the weather. "Prince Hans of the Southern Isles is a traitor to Arendelle, and one of our men is dead. Please remove the body and lock his cell until his fate is decided."
They were still clamoring through their confusion to manage a "Yes, Your Majesty" when Elsa yanked me further down the hallway, literally running in her glittering ice heels. How does she do that when I can barely run in boots?!
Once outside in the courtyard, I finally demanded, "Okay, Elsa, what are we doing? I mean, if you wanted to take a stroll, all you had to do was-"
"Shh." Grinning at me, she rubbed her hands together and then began to swirl them around each other, building up her energy — or something. You got me, since I've never done magic before. Then she curled them into claws and began dragging them upward from the ground, as if she were trying to summon the rocks from the earth and send them into the sky.
And as I watched, the ice and snow in the courtyard disappeared. That wasn't quite true; it was more like it evaporated. From the ground, the trees, the rooftops — from Arendelle. In no time, green was bursting out all around, and the confused servants throughout the castle were gasping in wonder.
"Whoa!" I squeaked. "You un-magicked your magic! Amazing!"
"Yes," she laughed, grabbing onto my hands and spinning me around in a circle. I couldn't help the peal of laughter that burst out of me, my heart was so light for the first time in forever. "Your love! That was always the key!"
"Yeah, sure!" I giggled. "My magical love!"
"No, really." Once we came to a stop, she pulled me in close, and I was struck again by how gorgeous she was, cheeks flushed and chest heaving slightly, bright red lips parted and curling into a smile. By Freya, she could have had anybody she wanted.
"You said that only an act of true love could thaw your heart, and your mind, Anna. I… I had to wonder if that's what I've been doing wrong all these years. Trying so hard to control my magic out of fear and anxiety for its consequences, terrified of hurting anyone, that I forgot… I forgot how to reach out, and let myself love you, and our parents, and… my people. That was the missing link."
My hand drifted up into her sweeping blonde forelock. "You sure you didn't bump your head when you tackled my ex?"
"Very sure. Our love thawed out Arendelle, Anna; that was all I needed."
"Oh," I breathed, knowing I looked like a shy dork by now. She had me so flustered in a way Hans could never have managed. "Well… I guess… you're welcome? Or thanks? I, u-um…" No, I could do better than that. "You'll always have as much love from me as you want, Elsa. Always."
And she kissed me again. That was never going to get old; it would always send tingles from my ears to the tips of my toes, set my stomach fluttering and my heart pounding. Even though I was no love expert, I somehow knew that was something only for the two of us.
Of course, when we broke apart we could hear the mutterings; the kiss had trapped us in a little world of our own, but pulling back revealed there were quite a few Arendellians shocked at what they had just witnessed. And I mean, I get it; their queen was acting like she was from Lesbos, not Norway, and with her own family member. That's a whole lot of Greek.
But even though I would have expected Elsa to retreat into her shell again, ashamed of what she had done, she did not. She stepped forward and announced loudly, "My sister and I have freed Arendelle of my magic. If any of you have a problem with how we have done that, you can air your grievances during the court levée I will open to the public on Monday morning. Until then, enjoy your summer again!"
Somehow, ending on that positive note triggered the automatic response of everyone cheering and clapping. Maybe it was a little bit of a trick, but it still gave Elsa the freedom to sweep me into her arms, to spin me around as I laughed. How long had it been since I felt that free?
Thirteen years. That's how long. But now we could be free forevermore. I only hoped the people of Arendelle would let us be free.

Mistletoe The Tree of Reincarnation (Helsa, Hiccanna )
History repeats itself, the fight is never over. The Red Bird and Blue Bird decided to join their magic and end the blood war between them by marrying each other but the Third Party interrupted the ceremony. While the ceremony was going on, the prince and princess of both kingdom met each other and fell in love. One-shot. Short Story.
Elsa Arnadalr – Older sister of Princess Anna Arnadalr and Queen of Blue Oak. She has platinum blonde hair and is always tied into a bun and has blue eyes representing the Blue Bird.
Anna Arnadalr – Princess of Blue Bird.
Hans Westergaard – King of Gui Vermillion.
Hiccup Westergaard – Prince of Gui Vermillion.
Astrid hofferson -Army General of Gui Vermillion and has a crush on King Hans.
Kristoff Bjorgman – Lieutenant in the Army of Gui Vermillion.
Mistletoe – The Tree of Reincarnation
The land of Mistletoe was ruled by two birds that possessed the power of gods. With time passing, both birds build two kingdoms. The Blue Bird ruled the Kingdom of Blue Oak and the red bird ruled the Kingdom of Gui Vermillion.
Both kingdoms had different ideas about living. Blue Bird believed that no one was good or evil; it was their greed that makes them do bad deeds. They must be given another chance to change themselves. The Kingdom of Blue Oak was preached to be peaceful.
Red Bird believed that one who was evil will always be evil no matter how many chances they are given. The Kingdom of Gui Vermillion believed in violence but the kingdom was as peaceful as of Blue Oak.
With their difference in thinking, both kingdoms started a blood war. Both birds evolve to pass down their power from generation to generation so the chain of mortality will always run.
.
.
.
.
After a thousand years of enmity, the king of Gui Vermillion fell in love with the queen of Blue Oak. The war paused for a few years. The current king of Gui Vermillion, Hans Westergaard waited for few years to propose to the queen of Blue Oak, Elsa Arnadalr
Hans' eyes were fixated at the ring in the box as he waited for the agreement for the marriage. He was 26 and if he waited a few more years the war may begin again.
"The papers are here." Came in General Astrid with the message. Hans tied a ribbon on the box and gave it to General Astrid. Astrid took in with hesitation, she believed that the Blue Oak will turn the marriage down but her unconditional love for the king was the actual reason for her hesitation. Her unconditional love for the king was left unseen by Hans.
King Hans turned to Lieutenant Kristoff and asked him, "Where is my brother?" Lieutenant Kristoff replied, "The Prince is once again joking around with his powers, Your Majesty."
hans went out of the Palace, into the woods to find Prince Hiccup. Hiccup was sitting on the bank of the pond and frying fishes with his magic. Hans sighed and patted his head. "You must not use your powers in such a way, Prince."
Hiccup smiled and said, "I'm sorry, Your Majesty. I was just practicing what powers I was given. After all, the king possesses the whole power of the Red Bird."
"You will unlock the whole power someday. Don't worry," hans patted his back, "Come on, let's go back to the castle.
.
.
.
.
The Queen of Blue Oak, Elsa Arnadalr stared out of the window, at her army being trained. Princess Anna came in with the box of the ring in her hand. She believed both kingdoms will end the war someday and live together peacefully. She had a smile on her face as she handed the box and the paper to her older sister. Elsa opened the box and found a ring with a blue rare stone that was only found on the land of the kingdom of Gui Vermillion. She read the paper where the king had confessed his unconditional love for her. Queen Elsa had hesitation in her mind as in the past when both Birds decided to work together they were torn apart by a third party.
"Accept it," said Anna from behind, "We believe in peace and this will bring peace." Anna was unaware of the thing on Elsa's mind, she always thought of it being a fairytale. She turned away and went out of the room. Elsa looked down at the paper. There were two circles for both kingdoms to draw their sign and between both trees was the picture of the lost tree of mistletoe.
Elsa picked up the pen and drew the sign of Blue Oak with blue ink in the left circle. She still had hesitation but if it was for the peace she would do anything.
.
.
.
.
King Hans was so happy to see the queen's initials on the paper. He drew Gui Vermillion's sign with red ink in the right circle and passed it to General Astrid. Astrid held the paper with a look of sadness. The paper was sent to the Kingdom of Blue Oak.
The marriage was in the temple of Blue Oak that was situated in the middle of the forest. No one except the King, Queen, and the priestess was allowed inside the temple, or around the temple. General Astrid was at the entrance of the temple.
Prince Hiccup wanted to see his brother's marriage so he wandered off to the temple. He hid behind a tree and then suddenly heard rustling in the woods. He looked behind in the deep darkness of the forest. Suddenly, Princess Anna came out of the woods. She was there for the same reason as him.
Hiccup fell in love just when he saw Anna. Anna saw the first person of the Gui Vermillion and never thought she would fall in love with him. Hiccup started chatting with her and wanted to show off his powers to her.
In the temple, the priestess told Elsa and Hans to unleash their power to join them. elsa was wearing a blue wedding gown and a blue coat over it that reach to the ground. Hans was wearing a black and red robe and over it a golden and maroon coat with vermillion fur. Elsa and Hans were standing face to face and hold their hand. Then, they unleash their magic and transparent wings of their respective color appear on their back.
Back in the forest, Hiccup was trying to control the fire on a piece of a stick standing upright from the ground. He failed and ignited the fire instead. Anna tried to help but she couldn't use much of her magic herself. They both laughed at their failed magic. They were more attracted to each other.
Hans and Elsa were about to join their magic. Hans was so happy that he couldn't hide it. Elsa was just smiling. Suddenly, Elsa saw the third party attacking Hans. Elsa was scared and started walking backward. Hans was confused.
The god of fate preferred it to sound crueler. In a matter of seconds, an arrow went through Hans' chest. He gasped for air. His vision started to get blurry as Elsa ran away from there. He felt Hiccup was going away from him too and he took his last breath. The current Red Bird was dead.
.
.
.
.
Hiccup came back to the Palace and saw General Astrid standing in front of a coffin. He hurriedly went to her. He turned her back and saw her crying for her beloved's death. He saw his brother was in the coffin. All the memories of them started to come in his mind – How he warned him for using the magi carefully, how he saved him when he almost burned himself with his magic, and how he used to play along with his jokes.
'Grieving, screaming, I've lost my voice.' Hiccup mourned till night in front of his brother's dead body. 'No matter how much I cry, I can't bring them back.'
The cage of the Red Bird broke.
Hiccup unlocked his powers of the Red Bird. He thought that the Queen of Blue Oak has killed his brother. He was furious and went alone to seek revenge.
Queen Elsa wrapped crying Anna into her arms as she watched the new Red Bird burning her kingdom in flames to seek revenge for the former Red Bird's death. Elsa couldn't tell anyone about the wedding. She sent Princess Anna from a secret pathway out of the castle, into the forest, where no one could find her.
Anna watched from the forest the Blue Bird and Red Bird fighting each other. The Blue Bird and the Red Bird took flight and still fought. From the distance, she saw the Red Bird assassin the Blue Bird.
Memories of Elsa came to her mind – How she looked at her when she went away after telling her to accept the proposal, how she looked at the engagement ring, and fell in love with the former Red Bird and how happy she was in the morning of the wedding. She watched the Blue Bird falling down to the ground.
The cage of the Blue Bird broke.
Transparent blue wings started to come out of Anna's back as she fell into the deep darkness of truth and became the new Blue Bird and Queen of the Kingdom of Blue Oak.
History repeats itself, the fight is never over.

Into the Unknown
Warning: Not sure if this is really in-character, and I don’t really know how accepting society back then was in this particular place, so not sure how accurate it is, but basically, Elsa has some internalized homophobia/puts pressure on herself and slight angst/fluff insues.
...
As queen, even if no one said it, there was always pressure on Elsa to marry and have a child, preferably a son, even if Arendelle hadn’t really been doing things traditionally since her father married a commoner.
But there was always those little remarks from nobles who thought they were just teasing. (“So, no possible King in the picture yet?”)There were little jabs from servants who had a little too much to drink at a party (“I’m sure your heir will be quite the handful, Your Majesty.”), or even teasing comments from Anna or Kristoff when she rolled her eyes at them having a moment in front of her (“You’ll understand when you get a boyfriend.”)
That pressure had been there since Elsa could remember. Even her parents joked about Elsa not being so disgusted by Anna’s romantic inserts in their games when she met an nice boy someday.
The pressure had been there so long that Elsa put it on herself, even as she got older and knew most women her age were either with some man or at least gotten a crush on a boy at some point.
Now that she was simply the Ice Spirit, Elsa didn’t have to worry about marrying anyone, but she did. Years of expecting to suddenly fall in love with some boy didn’t go away overnight.
It wasn’t that she didn’t notice men. She knew that Kristoff was kind and Ryder was funny, but she didn’t care about them that way. They were like brothers to her. Friends, nothing more.
The only person she really noticed more than them, or any man for that matter, was...
No. That was not happening. That wasn’t how things worked. It didn’t matter how Elsa felt. How she was drawn to this person like she’d never been to anyone before. It was just friendship. She was just confused.
I can hear you, but I won’t.
Elsa could feel that pull, like she was magnetically drawn to this person, but she didn’t want to. She knew that love could too easily lead to hurt. Not that this was love, of course. Still, it was like there was a bond between them. Like a piece of Elsa had been missing, even if she didn’t know it, and now it was right here in front of her.
Some look for trouble while others don’t.
This was definitely more trouble than it was worth. If Elsa listened to her feelings—if she admitted anything, even to herself—no good would come of it. She would get hurt and the person she was somehow drawn to would feel guilty, even if it wasn’t her fault.
There’s a thousand reasons, I should go about my day.
Making things awkward would help nothing. It would destroy her friendship with this woman, which already mattered to Elsa more than it should. And that was only one reason not to admit anything.
And ignore your whispers, which I wish would go away.
But... Elsa couldn’t ignore the feeling. As much as she wanted to, the...call—drawing her to Honeymaren, was always. right. there.
You’re not a voice. You’re just a ringing in my ear.
No. Elsa couldn’t think about this. Even if she was in love, and even if it was unreciprocated, and even if she knew it would never happen, she couldn’t afford to think about it. It would only hurt her worse than it already did.
And if I heard you—which I don’t—I’m spoken for, I fear.
Elsa already had enough to deal with. She didn’t need to be more distracted than she already was. Being the Ice Spirit—being the only Spirit who could speak to humans directly, which meant she had to speak for them all—was a full time job. She had no time for love.
Everyone I’ve ever loved is here within these walls.
Unfortunately, even if Elsa refused to give in to her feelings, Anna always noticed when something was going on with her. She always confronted her about it. Fortunately, this time, finding enough tact to get an excuse for Sven and Olaf not to be in the room.
“Elsa, what’s up with you?” the Queen asked finally, “You’ve been distracted for weeks.”
“Nothing. It’s nothing, Anna. I’m just tired.”
“Hmph. Well, I was hoping you’d come to me on your own, but seeing as how you haven’t, you’ve forced my hand. You’re not leaving this castle until you tell me what’s going on.”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Kristoff called over from where he was looking at possible wedding invitation designs.
“What?” Anna asked, clearly confused.
“I grew up with trolls, remember?” the blond said simply, “All the signs are there—she hasn’t been eating when we get together, hasn’t been sleeping much, judging by those dark circles under her eyes, is super distracted, like, all the time, got red-faced when you mentioned it...”
“Oh,” Anna said before turning back to her sister, “Are you dying?! And you didn’t tell me?!”
“What?” Elsa exclaimed, “No!”
Kristoff rolled his eyes, “Oh my gods, Anna. She’s in love, babe!”
“Ohhhh!” Anna realized, “Oh, it’s so obvious! Who is it? Who is it? Who is it???”
“No one,” Elsa insisted.
“Is it Ryder?” Anna pressed, “He’s nice. He’s got this weird thing about reindeer, but I mean, so does my guy, so it’s not like I can—“
“Ew, no,” Elsa said, actually making a face.
Something in Anna’s face changed, and she put her hand on Elsa’s knee reassuringly.
“Is it Honeymaren?”
Elsa stood up suddenly, feeling the temperature in the room drop due to her anxiety.
She couldn’t deny it. She couldn’t tell Anna either way. Somehow, she couldn’t find the words to do anything but walk away, feeling fortunate that Anna didn’t follow her.
I’m sorry, secret siren, but I’m blocking out your calls.
Returning to the Enchanted Forest, Elsa couldn’t face anyone yet. So she just sat against one of the shrines of the different elemental Spirits and stared at the stars.
For the first time, she really let herself think about her feelings. Her confusing love for this fearless, strong, beautiful woman.
I’ve had my adventure, I don’t need something new.
Elsa knew she could never make a move. But that thought became harder to hold onto as Honeymaren herself came and sat down next to her, not speaking. They both just stared at the stars as Elsa tried to calm her racing heart.
I’m afraid of what I’m risking if I follow you.
“Yelana says that the stars form patterns,” Honeymaren said after a few minutes of silence, “I don’t see it.”
“I didn’t either, at first,” Elsa admitted, “Not when I was little. But some of the stars are brighter than others, and they make pictures up there.”
Honeymaren was silent for a second before her brown eyes found Elsa’s blue ones and she spoke softly.
“Can you teach me?”
Into the unknown!
Despite Elsa wishing she could just avoid Honeymaren and her feelings, their meetings out by the shrines became more and more common until they met every night. Elsa would teach Honeymaren constellations and Honeymaren would tell Elsa about traditions that her mother would have been a part of. It became easy, just to talk. They never talked about it during the day, not even to each other. Those nights were theirs and only theirs. No one else needed to know.
Into the unknown! Into the unknown!
It was weeks of this before Honeymaren came out later than usual, her eyes unfocused.
“What’s wrong?” Elsa asked immediately.
“Nothing.”
The other woman sounded guarded, like she didn’t want to talk about it, but Elsa asked, anyway.
“Honeymaren. You know that you can tell me anything, right?”
Honeymaren sighed before she responded, “I love the stars. I love nights out here, telling stories and watching the sky. I can’t go back to the darkness again. If I had to live under that mist again, with no trace of starlight or sky...”
Elsa understood, “Nightmares.”
Honeymaren nodded, “Nightmares.”
The two had talked about their pasts before. Honeymaren was a warrior and Elsa was a queen. They knew everything about each other, which was how Elsa knew she could tell her.
“Sometimes I dream I have gloves on,” she admitted, “Gloves I can’t take off. And I’m locked in a room where I can hear Anna asking me to come out, but my voice won’t work, so I can’t tell her that I want to.”
“That’s terrible.”
Elsa shrugged, “That’s life. I think being human means you can’t ever get rid of your pain. I just thought maybe youd want to know that there’s nothing wrong with you. That you’re not alone.”
Honeymaren hesitated before she put her arm around Elsa, pulling her against her shoulder.
Elsa’s heart was hammering so hard that it took her a second to realize that Honeymaren was singing slowly, lyrics they both knew.
“Where the north wind meets the sea, there’s a river made of memory. Sleep, my darling, safe and sound, for in this river all is found.”
Elsa joined in the second verse, her voice rising to create a beautiful harmony with Honeymaren’s lower tones.
“In her waters, deep and true, lie the answers and a path for you. Dive down deep into her sound. But not too deep or you’ll be drowned.”
Elsa wasn’t sure if she was diving in too deep.
What do you want?—Cause you’re keeping me awake.
Their moment on the night Honeymaren had a nightmare was somehow too much, as Elsa found herself unable to so much as talk to the brunette afterwards. Two days, she managed to hold out before she had to get answers. Before she had to ride out to Ahtohallan.
Are you here to distract me?—So I make a big mistake?
“What is wrong with me, Mother?” Elsa asked the river desperately, “Am I in love with Honeymaren? Is loving a woman wrong? Mother, please.”
An image appeared—a woman standing with a younger version of Elsa’s mother. Presumably Elsa’s grandmother.
Another woman walked up, throwing her arm around Grandmother’s shoulders and kissing her, much to the annoyance of young Iduna.
Or are you someone out there who’s a little bit like me?
Elsa still avoided Honeymaren when she got back. Actually, she just avoided the Northulda, instead riding to Arendelle to talk to Anna.
No matter how much her internal compass wanted to be near a certain brunette warrior, Elsa needed to clear her head, first.
Who knows deep down, I’m not where I’m meant to be?
“So, Mother’s parents were two women?” Anna asked.
Elsa nodded, remembering the image.
“It’s not wrong, you know,” Anna said, “I don’t care who you love. Oakan is in love with a man, so I’m sure women can love women, too.”
“But I’m not sure I should,” Elsa mumbled, “Anna, a queen is supposed to marry a man. She’s supposed to produce an heir.”
“Well, then, I guess it’s a good thing I’m the one who has to worry about that.”
Elsa took a deep breath. She knew logically she shouldn’t care about this anymore. But she did.
“You made me queen for a reason,” Anna insisted, “Part of that reason was so you didn’t need to worry about all that stuff with having an heir. I mean, sure, that’s pretty far in the future for Kristoff and I, but still. If you want to be with Honeymaren, or any woman, you should do it.”
“But how do I do that?”
Anna shrugged, “Admitting you love her would be a start.”
Elsa took a deep breath, “I love women. I love Honeymaren.”
“Great,” Anna said with a smirk, “So go get the girl. And if she doesn’t love you back, she’s not the one for you.”
Elsa still had no idea how to confess, or whatever she was supposed to do. But she knew she couldn’t keep acting like her feelings for Honeymaren were nothing. Not with the intense, magnetic pull she felt towards the warrior.
Every day’s a little harder, as I feel my power grow.
Honeymaren was waiting, glaring, when she got back.
“Our spot. Sundown. Don’t be late.”
Don’t you know there’s part of me that longs to go?
“What did you want to talk about?” Elsa asked awkwardly as they met at the spot they always watched the stars.
“Seriously?” Honeymaren asked harshly, “Elsa, you’ve been avoiding me for four days. Don’t act like you haven’t. I saw you ditch Ryder a few days ago to avoid talking to me. You’re acting weird. So talk to me. Tell me what’s going on with you, because I can’t help if I don’t know.”
Into the unknown!
Elsa took a deep breath, “Honeymaren, I... I love you.”
Into the unknown!
“I have for a long time. It took me a while to accept it, but I’ve loved you almost since I first moved to the Enchanted Forest. You’re strong, and brave, and so beautiful. And usually Anna’s the one who rambles, but I get where she’s coming from now. The way you make me feel... I just can’t fit it into words.
Honeymaren was silent, clearly not knowing what to say as her face betrayed her surprise.
Into the unknown!
“I’m sorry,” Elsa said wearily, “If I’ve scared you, or ruined our friendship. But I can’t help my feelings. I love you, Honeymaren.”
The way the brunette still wasn’t responding made Elsa feel terrified and excited at the same time. She usually was good at reading people, but this time, she had no clue.
Are you out there? Do you know me?
Then the warrior pulled her close, locking her lips against Elsa’s, and it felt like the most natural thing in the world as they stumbled back until Elsa was pressed between Honeymaren and one of the shrines.
Can you feel me? Can you show me?
“Maren? Someone told me you would be—oh.”
They pulled apart as Ryder ran up, looking as if he wished he could unsee what he’d just seen.
“What do you need, brother?” Honeymaren asked calmly, not moving.
Ryder swallowed nervously, “It was a reindeer thing. It can wait. Until morning at least. Bye.”
As he left, the two laughed a bit, savoring the look on Honeymaren’s brother’s face. Elsa had to admit, it was one of the funniest things she’d ever seen.
“What do you say we go somewhere a bit more private?” Honeymaren asked, “Somewhere my brother doesn’t know about?”
Elsa nodded, “I’m all yours.”
Where are you going? Don’t leave me alone. How do I follow you, into the unknown?

The Christmas Spirit
Rating: T
Word Count: 7,107
Pairing: Kristoff/Anna
Summary: Modern AU; It’s Christmas time and Anna and Kristoff are finally having their first Christmas together, at the Bjorgman house. This is the first time Anna really has met the whole family, in one place. Anxiety and a feeling of overwhelmed come over her, but that doesn’t stop her heart from being in love with his family. And that surely doesn’t stop Kristoff from still being in love with Anna.
Notes: IS CHRISMAS YALL!!! Hope you all enjoy! I’ve actually been working on this for literally 6 ish months, and I feel like it’s pretty perfect for how long I’ve been working on it. Again, hope you enjoy, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to yall!
It was the holiday season and Anna and Kristoff had been dating for almost two and a half years now. Anna lived a state away from her family so this year she decided that she would do something independent for the holidays. Maybe a year away from her family wouldn’t be so bad? It didn’t hit her until later that she really had no other plans. She had the Christmas tree set up in her apartment, of course helped by Kristoff. They set it up and that night they put on a Christmas movie and decorated the tree. Their hands full of glitter and eyes burnt out from staring at the lights on the tree for too long. That was fun, but Anna didn’t formally invite anyone to hang out with her for Christmas day, so she assumed she would spend the day alone, maybe Kristoff or Elsa popping in to say hello and maybe give a gift, if they had bought one. Anna couldn’t tell if it was the maturity making her not want gifts this year, or the fact that she was spending it alone was. Either way, she didn’t really mind it, a peaceful Christmas this year is what she needs. At least she thinks.
“So what are you exactly doing for Christmas?” Kristoff asks after he washed down his bagel with his coffee. They get breakfast together at a local coffee shop at least 3-4 times a week before work.
This perked up Anna, usually as they wait for their food they catch each other up and when they finally sit down to eat they plow it down, not really any talk to be had, they just want to fill up their stomach to get through the day so they can hopefully see each other after work.
“Oh, nothing. I think this year I’ll have a peaceful Christmas day to myself. I mean, if you want to come by and stay for a while, I wouldn’t mind.” She sipped her coffee as she finished her statement.
Kristoff was confused as ever, “A...peaceful...Christmas...day? Where is Anna and what have you done with her?” This made Anna smile. Yeah, she knew it wasn’t like her, but it was like this fresh wave of maturity was washing over her. “I’ve never heard you put those kinds of words together. You’re really not going to do anything on Christmas?”
“Well, Christmas doesn’t have to be chaotic. It is named ‘the most peaceful time of year’ for a reason.”
“Well, you’ve never been with my family around Christmas. We like to go all out.” Kristoff leaned back in his chair. Then got that look on his face, Anna knew that look, he was getting an idea.
“Hey, why don’t you come over with me to my parents for Christmas!” Kristoff looked excited.
“Really? Won’t like, all of your family be there? I’ve never really seen all of your siblings in person. Of course, except Roxanne.” Anna said.
Roxanne was the third oldest, behind Kristoff by 8 years, a senior in high school, smart kid, does well in school, but liked to kind of do whatever she wanted. So when Anna would have the occasional dinner with Kristoff’s parents, she would see Roxanne come out of her room with her car keys and say to her family “See ya, I’ll be back at midnight.” And her family wouldn’t really bat an eye, Kristoff would just say the usual, “Don’t do anything I haven’t done!” and continue the dinner conversation.
“Well yeah, so this time you’ll finally get to meet all of them. And probably some of my grandparents too. You’ve made quite the impression to my family.” Kristoff raised an eyebrow.
“You’ve talked about me?” Anna asked.
“Are you kidding? Of course I have. They all love you out of the description I tell them.”
Anna, now curious, leaned forward and said, “What do you say?”
Kristoff leaned forward too and said, “Well, I describe you as the perfect woman in the world. With the most amazing color of hair, paired with the most indescribable color of eyes that just somehow match,” Kristoff had taken her hand, and Anna sighed, loving what she’s hearing. “I think they think you’re smaller than I described but I can’t tell.” She laughs. “And...there’s just so much about you that I’ve described to them. Like all the sweet things we do that make me love you even more...like that thing we tried last month.”
Anna swiped her hand away and swatted at his shoulder, “I’m kidding!” He remarked. “Most of them don’t understand...you know.” Anna knew he was kidding. But still.
They ate most of the rest of their food, and Kristoff looked up and said, “Sooo.. was that a yes?”
“Hm?” Anna hummed with a mouth full of food.
“You know, my offer? You just kind of let the conversation drop after I said that my family loves you. So?” Kristoff crumpled up his bagel wrapper.
Anna had been thinking about it since the moment the words left his mouth. Her mind was already set on staying home and drinking all the hot chocolate she could and watching all the Christmas movies she had. But, it couldn’t hurt to change her plans, especially if it was for her boyfriend.
“You know what? Sure, I’d love to. Nothing I would rather do.” Anna said and wrapped up her garbage as well. They got up and threw their stuff away, stepped outside the coffee shop, pecked each other on the lips and went their separate ways to their work for the day.
~~~
A week later, it was Christmas. Dinner at the Bjorgman family was happening around 7, but since the family liked to spend time together, especially around the holidays, the “party” was happening all day. Kristoff was picking up Anna around 5 though. Anna was getting ready, not too dressy, but not too looking like she didn’t want to be there. A classic casual blouse, leather jacket, jeans, and knee high boots. She looked in the mirror and decided she needed some jewelry. Dainty bracelets and necklaces worked. She then saw her pajamas that were strone across her bed. Part of her wished she could change back into them and just curl up on the couch. But the fact that she was spending Christmas day with her boyfriend, who she loved very much, and is now meeting the rest of his family, she couldn’t be happier.
She waited in her living room for a text or call from Kristoff, and was watching ‘The Santa Clause 2’ with Tim Allen and Elizabeth Mitchell. It was nearing the end of the movie, it was her favorite part. When Santa, or Scott Calvin as his real name, finally gets back to the North Pole but before he makes his round to drop off gifts to every child in the world, he has to marry the one he loves. Although rushed, Anna loves how sincere they still were in their vows, and they weren’t just marrying each other because he needed to be Santa Claus. They had a real deep connection.
Her phone chimed and it got her out of her trance. The text read, “Outside babe.” She turned off her TV, and made sure everything was off and locked and met him outside in his car.
She hopped in the car with a big smile on her face, with a quick ‘hey’ and put her seatbelt on.
“My, my. Aren’t you a giddy one?” Kristoff remarked.
“What? I’m not allowed to be happy to be meeting the rest of my boyfriend’s family?” She leaned towards his face, expecting a kiss anytime soon.
“No, it’s just...I’m happy you’re happy.” He smiled and leaned in to kiss her. And then they drove off to the Bjorgman household.
~~~
They pulled up to the household and Anna saw all of the cars that filled up the driveway and even spilling out to the sidewalk.
‘Lot of people then..’ Anna thought, and bit her lip. She got out of the car and Kristoff was getting a couple things from the back, Anna went around to see if he needed help.
“I think I’m good…” Kristoff said with his hands full of presents. “Oh, wait, can you grab those little boxes? On the floor?” Anna did as she was asked, and then shut the car door.
“So like, are all of these for the kids?” Anna asked as they were walking towards the house.
“Yep, just a little warning, I think there are more kids than you’ve imagined. Yes I have my younger siblings, but my aunts and uncles also have kids and they’re here too.”
“Wow...seems like the Bjorgman’s are...busy.”
“Ohhhh, yeah” Kristoff stretched out, laughing at the end of it, so did Anna. “Oh, since this was kind of last minute, I did put your name on the “From:” part of the tag on the presents, so people would think that you were, you know, nice enough to think of the kids.”
“Hey, I would’ve gotten stuff if you had said something. It completely slipped my mind to get stuff for them...but thank you for doing that anyway.” Anna giggled.
As they approached the door, Kristoff warned Anna about the second step, as it always seems to get slippery every year. Anna then rang the doorbell, but not long after someone was at the door. Bulda, with a very big smile and 3 kids attached to her.
“Anna! Oh my dear it’s so good to see you!! I’m so glad you came!” She gave Anna a very big and tight hug. Then went to Kristoff and took the huge amount of presents out of his hands and went into the other room. It wasn’t long before his hands were full again with the kids that tagged along with Bulda.
“Hey guys, hey look, look. There’s someone I want you to meet. This is Anna.” He was crouched down to their level, but looking up at Anna. Anna then crouched down too.
“Nice to meet you guys. What’s all your names?” Anna asked.
“I’m Maxine.” Maxine said proudly.
“I’m Jake.” Jake said.
“I-I’m D-D-Daisy-y.” Daisy, the youngest, managed to get out.
“She’s just learning how to talk. But I’m so proud you know how to say your own name!” Kristoff looked at Daisy and hugged her as she giggled.
“You’re really pretty Anna.” Jake said.
“Oh! Why thank you.” Anna was flattered, since she knew that kids told the truth most of the time.
“Okay kids, go play, I think Uncle Mike has a game of musical chairs going for the younglings.” Bulda peaked their interest, and they all ran off towards a different part of the house. Anna and Kristoff got up to see Bulda again, and she was already going in for a hug with her son. “Hello dear so good to see you. Was the drive okay?”
“Ah, it was okay. As long as I had my girl along my side, it was never boring.” Kristoff remarked.
“Yes, while it was a good drive, it did seem long and I drank a whole bottle of water, so if you don’t mind I’m just gonna use the bathroom.” Anna excused herself.
“Oh by all means!” Bulda said as she took off.
Kristoff started walking towards all the people before he was pulled by the sleeve by his mother.
“Well, is tonight the night?” She asked.
“Look, ma, I don’t know honestly. Yes, I very much want to do it, but I think she’s a little overwhelmed by all the people. We are a big family. If I’m going to do it tonight, I don’t think it’s going to be here.” Kristoff said, in a hushed tone.
“Okay, okay. I’m just so excited!” Bulda started to get worked up.
“Ok, shh, ma, you’re starting to jump, think about your ankle.” Bulda looked at it and brushed it off, and then Kristoff went back to what he was going to do, see the rest of his family.
~~~
A little time has passed, Anna met all the kids (she thinks- there’s just so many of them) and met and talked to a majority of the adults, with the same story of where she works and ‘why the hell do you like this troublemaker of a kid?’-Kristoff.
She found herself with a small glass of champagne and was standing by the sink talking to Roxanne. She found a little comfort in talking to her. She wasn’t completely new to Anna, but there was still a lot they didn’t know about each other.
“So, anything new at school happening?” Anna asked
“Wow, what a new question everyone hasn’t asked me yet.” Roxanne joked, but there was a hint of truth behind it.
“Oh sorry, I mean no offense but what else is there to ask an 18 year old. It’s your senior year, you should be having fun, making memories. We all wanna hear about your experience, and be there for you during the big moments.”
“Yeah, well nothing is really happening, not until the new year hits anyways, all the interesting sports start in the spring, the musicals, testing, dances, etc.”
“Yeah, I hear you. So there’s really nothing else going on for you?”
Roxanne shook her head, “No, nothing much.” But she looked at her feet. Anna knew exactly what that meant, she even does it herself. She was hiding something.
“So there is something new.”
Looking up, Roxanne was kinda shocked, “How did you know?”
“I’m a girl just like you, the subtle hints you just gave, I’ve done them before. What’s up, you can trust me you know.”
Roxanne breathed in, and turned to really face Anna. “Well, it is my senior year, and..I’ve never really had a relationship.”
Anna knew exactly what she was getting into with this conversation. “Oh I see, and, is there someone you’re interested in?”
“Well, the thing is, I’m bi, so I’ve had crushes come and go. I’ll see someone who is interesting or cute, but I’ll get scared because, well if it’s a girl, what if they don’t have the same interests as me, and if it’s a guy, well...you know.”
“Yeah, that sounds like a whole ordeal. The only thing I can say, in your situation, it seems best for you to make a friend first, and then see if they would like to take things further. You shouldn’t have to feel like you’re rushed to find someone. When you know, you know.” Her gaze wandered over to Kristoff who wasn’t far from them.
“Is that how you felt with my brother?” Roxanne smiled.
“Oh yeah. I mean, before we started dating, you heard tale of me right?” Roxanne nodded. “So yeah, we met, became friends, and from there we found something. And look at us now.” Anna smiled.
Roxanne looked down, still having a smile on her face. “Yeah, you guys do have something special. I feel like you’re the hot topic tonight to be honest.”
“Really? Me?” Anna asked.
“Oh yeah, are you kidding? Kristoff doesn’t stop talking about you when he’s over, the only time that does come to a halt is when you are over too for a dinner or something. But since everyone is here, I don’t know, I feel like you’re just an easy topic for Kristoff and the family to talk about.” Roxanne explained.
Kristoff came over and cut between them, as they were still at the sink. He rinsed a glass he had and set it in the sink, and while he was, he said, “Hey, my two favorite girls.” He stepped back and instinctively put his arm around Anna. “What are y’all talking about?”
“Oh nothing, just, girl stuff.” Anna said, looking up at him with admiration.
“Yep, so no boy can hear it.” Roxanne teased.
“Ah, I see. Well, no matter, how are you enjoying the night?” Kristoff asked, but mostly to Anna.
“I’m doing fine, your family is really friendly, it’s nice knowing that I don’t have to put up a fake persona for them.” Anna said.
“Of course, our family loves people for who they are. Unless they’re clearly a douche.” He chuckled.
“Well, there is one person who puts on a “fake persona” once a year for the-” Roxanne started to say.
“Shhhhhhh” Kristoff cut her off.
“What? What are you talking about?” Anna was confused and curious.
“It’s nothing.”
“But you’ll find out later.” Roxanne whispered to Anna, all giddy.
Anna was still confused, but she trusted Roxanne’s word that she’ll find out later.
“We should head into the living room soon, the Yankee Swap will start soon and with how many people are here, there won’t be many seats that are on cushion.”
“Good call.” Roxanne said and started heading towards the living room. Anna and Kristoff soon  followed.
A few minutes later, Kristoff’s mom turned down the Christmas music, and got everyone into the room, she got the room to quiet down.
“Okay everyone time to start the swap! Now, I asked everyone to put all of the gifts in the other room, so Derek can you go get them?” Derek nodded and got up to go to the other room.
“Actually before we start I’m gonna go to the bathroom.” Kristoff said and got up.
“Okay, just so you know you might get a bad number for the picking!” Bulda joked.
Shortly after, Derek came back with a big bag full of the swap gifts. He started to take them out of the bag when Bulda started to explain what the rules were.
“So, the rules are simple. We are going to pick a number out of this hat,” She grabs a hat full of numbers. “And just go in order. You can pick any gift, and once you get it you open it. And if you’re in the later numbers and you pick a gift but you want something someone has who went before you, you have to battle them! That’s my twist to the game, to battle them, you must play a quick game of charades!!!” Everyone was either a little more intrigued, or groaned how boring they thought that game was.
“To actually win, if the person you want to battle doesn’t get your word or phrase or whatever it is, you can get their gift. But if the person gets the word right, they don’t give up the gift. Everyone got it?” Bulda finishes.
As she finishes, Derek is finishing up with placing the gifts near the tree.
“Hmm, Derek are you sure that’s all the gifts?” Bulda puts on a voice. And loud enough for the next three rooms to hear.
“What do you mean? There’s more???” Jake asked with a lot of enthusiasm in his voice.
“Oh yes, I know there is. I wonder where they all went though…”
Just as Bulda says that, Anna hears Roxanne snicker. She’s again confused, but just then, she sees a big red blur come through the threshold. A big resounding “Ho Ho Ho!” followed. Anna knew immediately it was Kristoff, she couldn’t believe what she was seeing. Her boyfriend with a fat suit and probably a 3x large red, furry jacket. She started laughing with Roxanne, and most of the adults who also knew it was Kristoff. The kids on the other hand, lost their minds. As for them, Santa was in the house, the night before Christmas.
So many, “OH MY GOD IT’S SANTA!” and, “I CAN’T BELIEVE MY EYES” and just screaming for joy in general.
“Hello kids, yes it’s me Santa, I wanted to come by before I start my rounds and give you the first presents before any other kid in the world gets theirs.”
“Wow thanks Santa!” One of the kids said.
Anna couldn’t help but laugh, as she had never heard the voice that Kristoff was putting on. But she held it in as best as she could, so she wouldn’t ruin it for the kids.
“Don’t worry, if you come back every year, you’ll be able to suppress the laugh. But it will still be hilarious, but you’ll be able to put on a fake ‘oh my God, wow’ smile.” Roxanne leaned over to Anna and whispered.
“How long has he been doing this?” Anna asked.
“Since, he was like 16. He grew drastically like when he was 13 or 14. By 16 he was like 3 inches shorter than he is now. So he could pass for it. Our dad used to do this, but both he and Kristoff knew that at one point he was gonna have to stop at one point, so he took over. He loves doing it though.” Roxanne explained.
“Wow. He never said anything about it. And we know almost everything about each other.” Anna remarked.
“Maybe he wanted to surprise you.” Roxanne said.
They went back to watching Kristoff play Santa to his younger brothers and sisters, and some of his nieces and nephews. He really did look like he was enjoying it, bringing joy to them seemed to instantly put a smile on his face, and his soul. Anna loved seeing him so happy that he was making his family happy.
“So here’s all the presents for you kids-” ‘Santa’ started to say,
“But, we’ll all have to wait for the Yankee Swap to be over, then you can open them. But for now, Santa has to go, say goodbye kids.” Bulda says.
All of the kids yelled “Goodbyee!!” and as Kristoff was kneeling to pull the gifts out of the bag he brought in, some kids ran over to hug him before he left.
“Okay children, I’ve really got to get back to the sleigh and start delivering the rest of the presents. Merry Christmas to all!”
“AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT!” All of the kids screamed back.
Anna thought to herself, besides Kristoff dressing up as Santa, that was also a tradition they had. She saw as he left, and all the kids were still buzzing about it.
“Okay, okay kids settle, if you wanna open your presents you gotta play this game first.” They all quieted down, but still a little joy left in their eyes.
As Bulda was going around the room letting people pick their numbers, Kristoff came back, and immediately the kids said “Kristoff you missed it! Santa was just here! Look at how many presents he gave us!”
“My Kristoff, you were in the bathroom for a long time that you missed Santa!” Bulda exaggerated.
“Oh well, maybe next year I’ll catch him.” Kristoff said as he was heading back to his seat next to Anna.
“And who knows, maybe he’ll bring a certain Mrs-”
“Shhh.” Kristoff hissed at his mom. Bulda returned to passing out numbers. Kristoff had looked back to see if Anna had caught that, but he doesn’t think she did, because Anna couldn’t stop smiling at Kristoff, and he raised a brow and asked, “What?”
“Oh nothing, it was just really special seeing Santa here tonight.” Anna said through a smile.
“What are you talking about?” Kristoff smiled, playing along with the joke.
Anna laughed, “Nothing.” Neither one of them really knew what the context of that conversation was, but they were just both so happy with the buzz that they felt between them and the buzz that was in the room. Anna knew right then and there that she didn’t regret coming to the party tonight. Kristoff quickly kissed her cheek and returned to the game that was starting.
~~~
The game and the present opening seemed to happen so fast that it was all blurry to Anna. In a good way though, there was so much laughter from the charade portions, and all the jokes, and the kids, and the fact that she couldn’t get the image of ‘Santa Kris’ out of her head. They could all tell that the party was coming to an end. All the kids were asking where the desserts were, so they were occupied eating those, the adults were getting their kids presents or their own gifts they got, all packed up and ready to go to the car, and all the food was being portioned to be taken home, since there was way too much to keep at Buldas house.
Anna was nursing another glass of champagne and talking to some of Kristoff’s relatives when Kristoff came over and, again, instinctively wrapped his arm around her.
“You ready to go babe?”
“Aweeee, do we have to? It feels like we just got here 10 minutes ago!” Anna whined, but deep inside of her she wanted to go home and snuggle up next to Kristoff while watching more Christmas movies.
“Ah, we don’t wanna burden my mom by staying here.” Kristoff glanced over at his mom who was finishing up with giving some food to Kristoff’s cousin as they were leaving. His mom must’ve caught the end of that because she looked over and came over.
“Oh, are you guys leaving soon? I can pack up some stuff for ya if you want!” Bulda said.
“Thanks, but we won’t need a lot like your packing with everyone else-”
“Maybe just the desserts and some of the pasta would be good for us to take.” Anna finished Kristoff’s sentence, then laughed.
“Honestly, if you took as many desserts as you wanted there would still be enough for everyone else to take some home. I may have made a little too much for today.” Bulda exclaimed.
“No, no don’t worry, we’re more than happy to take those desserts off of your hands!” Anna laughed again, intending some kind of joke, but in actuality, she was eyeing the cheesecake she’s already had two big slices of.
“Oh then by all means, I’ll pack some stuff up for you.” Bulda turned around and went to work.
“You know I was trying to get her to not pack as much food for us to take home. She’s a busy woman enough as it is.” Kristoff said to Anna in a hushed voice.
“Well, it’s not like she’s complaining, I mean sure it is busy work, but it’s Christmas, is it really hard work if you enjoy it?” Anna questioned back. Kristoff gave her a look of defeat, but still worry behind his eyes. Anna knew what to do.
“I’ll go help her then, some one-on-one wouldn’t hurt our relationship right?” Anna handed her champagne to him and walked towards Bulda.
“Hey there, do you want some help packing up the food and stuff?” Anna asked.
“Oh, no, I wouldn’t wanna burden you by helping me.” Bulda brushed away Anna, but she wouldn’t back down.
“Oh come on, I insist. Plus, didn’t I hear something about your ankle? You could use a break, or at least some help.”
Bulda gave in, almost like she even forgot about her ankle hurting. “Oh sure, what’s the harm of you helping, right?” She laughed, “Just take some of these buckets, and follow me.” Anna did as she was told.
Anna followed her to the dining room where some of the food was kept, but mostly the desserts.
“Wow, I honestly forgot how many there were.” Anna remarked.
“Yeah, like I said, I may have made too much. But I guess I say that every year, and everyone goes home happy. That’s what really matters to me.” Bulda said with a smile.
“That’s really sweet.” Anna said, her heart melting a bit at what Bulda just said.
They packed up some sweets while chit-chatting a bit, they eventually got the topic of Kristoff.
“Oh I couldn’t stop laughing when he came out.” Anna said.
“Oh, imagine me, the first time he did it after Pabbie stopped, I couldn’t stop laughing. It was just so funny seeing a 16 year-old do that.”
“Wow, he must’ve been really tall to pull that off.”
“Oh yeah, the summer before 9th grade, poof, grew a foot and became 6 ft. No idea what happened to this day. But it added to his character.”
“Oh yeah it did.” Anna laughed. “Probably one of the first thoughts that came across my mind when I first even glanced at him was ‘Wow look how tall he is.’ Of course, that’s coming from me, 5’2” here.” Anna laughed some more.
“Awe, well you two fit perfectly together. The height difference just makes it look even cuter.”
“Yeah..” Anna got lost in her thoughts for a second.
“You two are really happy together.” Bulda admired Anna’s look of loss in thought.
“Oh yeah.” Anna blushed a little. After all she was still talking to Kristoff’s mother.
“You know, Kristoff told me…..Oh no, I shouldn’t tell you.” Bulda waved her hand and went back to finishing up all the packed up desserts.
“Oh well you gotta tell me now!” Anna laughed.
“No, no, I’m sure it’s gonna happen...soon?”
“What do you mean?” Anna asked, confused as ever.
Just then Kristoff poked his head in the dining room to say, “Hey, I just went to warm up the car, so whenever you’re ready.” He smiled.
“Oh we just finished dear, just a little catching up.” Bulda said. It wasn’t a lie, but Anna still felt there was something unsaid.
Bulda turned back to Anna and said, “Just, remember how happy you are with Kristoff.”
“Of course I won’t. I never will. But what did you mean-”
“I’ve said too much, if I say anymore Kristoff will kill me. Just, enjoy the rest of your night dear.” Bulda said, putting a hand on Anna’s arm.
Anna and Kristoff took all of the food that she really wanted, Kristoff and Anna said their goodbyes and gave their hugs to everyone who was left. They made it through the dropping temperatures outside into the warmed up car, and started their drive home.
But Anna couldn’t help but question what Bulda meant by “It’s gonna happen soon”. Anna couldn’t think of anything important coming up. With Christmas tomorrow, and New Years in about a week, there was nothing else of importance going on. She looked over to Kristoff and tried to think if there was anything coming up for him. She couldn’t.
Kristoff noticed she was staring. “What’s up babe?” His eyes went back to the road.
“Nothing, nothing, just….is there anything important coming up?”
“...You mean something other than Christmas?” He laughs at his own little joke. “No, why?”
Anna wanted to say because Bulda had said something was gonna happen, but then remembered her saying “If Kristoff found out he would kill me”. Is it something Anna is supposed to know, and he isn’t? Or the other way around?
“Oh, I don’t know, it just seems like there’s something I’m supposed to do. Maybe it’s something for work.” Anna said.
“Well, you got a whole week off, it can’t be that important.” Kristoff reached for Anna’s hand and stroked the back of her hand with his thumb mindlessly.
Anna smiled. Of course she lied about the thing being for work, but she decided maybe it was good to forget about it. Whatever the thing is Bulda talked about, it will happen when it happens.
~~~
After the long drive, they head to Anna’s place, they both take off their boots and sweaters, Anna takes off all the jewelry on her body, and heads to her room to put it all away, Kristoff not far behind her.
Anna was standing in front of her vanity, sorting everything away when Kristoff slithers his arms around Anna and just hugs her. “Finally, no relatives or younger siblings to interrupt our alone time.”
Anna huffed and smiled. “Hmmm, I’ve been thinking about just coming back here and relaxing all night. Well, maybe not the whole night,” Anna turned around while still in his arms, “Tonight was pretty fun with your family.”
“I get it. Being there is fun, but sitting on the couch watching movies and drinking hot chocolate in the dark. Sounds exhilarating.” Kristoff smiled, then leaned in for a kiss.
Anna liked the idea of that, but she wanted to be comfortable. When they parted, she said “I like that, let me just go wash everything off.” She got out of his arms and headed to the bathroom.
She washed her makeup off, cleansed her face, brushed her teeth, and went back to her bedroom- which she had then found that Kristoff had changed out of his day clothes (she had some clothes that were Kristoff’s left behind here for nights like this), She switched to her pjs and found that Kristoff had everything set up for Anna to just snuggle in with Kristoff. The movie, the drinks, the blankets, the apartment just being lit by the very dim hallway light.
“Wow, how long was I in the bathroom?” Anna asked jokingly.
“You weren’t gone long, I just work very fast.” Kristoff said, inviting Anna onto the couch with his eyes, which she gladly accepted. Kristoff went ahead and put on The Santa Clause 2, the movie Anna was watching before she left. She didn’t say that out loud, she didn’t mind that she was watching this movie again. She was just happy Kristoff was around this time.
~Near the end of the movie~
Anna’s body was practically glued against Kristoff’s, her ear hearing his heartbeat, and her upper body moving along with his breaths.
They got to the part that Anna was watching before Kristoff picked her up to go to the party. When Santa needs to marry Carol before taking off for the night. She just loved the scene.
“You know before you came to pick me up I was watching this movie, really just having it in the background, and this is the scene that I saw right before you arrived.” Anna said. They always just said what was on their minds a lot of the time.
“Hmm.” Kristoff hummed. Anna just thought that he was starting to fade because of the warm drinks, the dim lights. But really, Anna had no idea that he was just choked up on what he wanted to do next.
It was the scene where Mother Nature had pronounced them ‘Man and Wife’, they kissed, and Scott Calvin once again became the one and only Santa Claus.
Anna hummed against Kristoff’s chest, “Man I just love this movie.” Anna tried to snuggle deeper into Kristoff more.
He laughed, “Yep. I would’ve enjoyed it a little more if I didn’t have to fricken pee in the second half,” Kristoff started to laugh, and Anna joined, but mostly started to get up so he could move. “But it was just too comfortable and relaxing that I could wait. But I’ll be back and we’ll put on the next one.” Kristoff pecked Anna on the lips and went to the bathroom.
Anna was smiling. She just loved the nights like this. It doesn’t even have to be Christmas for them to have a night where they just watch movies and drink hot chocolate. It was just more special tonight because it was Christmas, and they were spending it together.
Anna decided to just get the next movie going so that they can start when Kristoff comes back. She went to put their mugs in the kitchen, she didn’t think they were gonna have any more, so she just grabbed some water instead for both of them to have. By the time she gets back into the living room, Kristoff is coming out of the bathroom.
Anna looks up and sees that he looks a little zoned out. Confused, she asks, “Everything okay? You seem a little...unfocused.”
“Hmm? Oh, yeah, I was just thinking about somethings.” He said and sat down on the couch, not laying where he was before.
“What kinds of things?” Anna trying to lighten the mood, (she thinks that is what needed to be done) she leans closer to Kristoff, putting her hand near his chest.
“It’s just-- nah it’s stupid, forget about it.” Kristoff tries to laugh it off, but Anna won’t let go.
“Well obviously it’s something. C’mon, you can tell me anything.” Anna pleaded in her own cute way.
Kristoff was hesitant, looking back and forth between Anna and his hands. He took a deep breath as he was about to reveal what felt like a lot to him.
“Look, Anna, you know I love you, so very much,” Anna started to get nervous. Why would he be saying that now? “And, I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been thinking about the future.” Oh thank God.
“Really?” Anna couldn’t contain her grin. Just hearing the word “future” come out of his mouth, made her giddy. The fact that when he says it and she’s there with him in his mind's eye, made her happy.
“Yeah, but, lately, I just feel as though...I’m not...not good enough.” He struggled to get through the sentence, because while he did think it, it was hard to admit it out loud.
Anna was taken back from this. Her mind instantly flashed to all the times when Kristoff took care of Anna when she was sick, when she was having an anxiety attack, or when she even needed a hug or a kiss. And then she thought about all the times she saw him take care of her sister, Elsa. Sure, they weren’t super close, but if Elsa needed something and Kristoff could do it, he did it. Her mind flashed to all the memories of when Kristoff was there for his family, heck, some moments from the party flashed across her eyes. Anna was very confused and honestly a little hurt from thinking that Kristoff wasn’t good enough.
“What...the hell are you talking about?” Some seriousness in her voice, but she couldn’t help but have a bit of a smirk at the edge of her lip.
“Huh?” Kristoff was now confused.
“You think you’re not good enough? First of all, very vague, you’re good at your job, you’re good at being a boyfriend, you’re good at being a son, a brother, a cousin, hell even a damn human being. You are a good one- no! You’re a great human being Kristoff.” Anna was talking like a motivational speaker, and Kristoff couldn’t help but smile, from mostly being told that he was a great person. I mean, how would you react?
“Kristoff, I don’t know what thing you have going inside your head to make you think that you’re not good enough. Tonight alone showed how much you’re an amazing human being. If anyone ever tells you otherwise, point them in my direction….and I will gladly punch them in the face.” Kristoff officially laughed at that part.
“Well, okay, I don’t think we need to go that far-”
“No I’m serious!” Anna said, still with a smile on her face. “I will do it if anyone says that to you ever.”
Kristoff looked deep into her eyes. He could tell that she meant it. And forever will. “That’s so good to know.” Kristoff still had a look of nervousness. But he pushed it away with a smile, and lunged toward Anna for a kiss. She gladly accepted it.
She was about to fully be on top of Kristoff (to enjoy the moment even more), but Kristoff started to move away. Anna broke the kiss as she could start to tell what he was moving away.
“Wh-what are you….” Anna was confused as to where he was going, until she saw he wasn’t going far. He was on one knee, and slowly but surely pulled a ring from his pocket. “Woah, woah-” Anna suddenly lost her voice. She didn’t have the words.
“Anna, it’s so glad to hear you say that all about ‘how great a human being’ I am. But honestly, I’m the one who’s with an extraordinary human being.” Anna started to tear up. “I love you with all I am,” He opened up the box, “Will you marry me?”
Anna barely let a breath in between before she jumped onto him screaming, “YES! Yes, yes, yes, yes!” She felt him catch her as she was basically on the floor with him too. “Oh my gosh!” She pulled back, looked at him and couldn’t contain her excitement as she went to kiss him all over his face.
Kristoff couldn’t stop laughing out of happiness, and just let her excitement run wild. When she pulled back once again, he finally got a chance to get her left hand, and slip the ring on it.
“Oh my gosh, Kristoff it’s beautiful!” She said while admiring it. “This must’ve been a lot, how long have you been wanting to do this?” She asked.
“Well, the idea has been poking around for about a year and a couple months,” Anna breathed out a laugh. “But I didn’t officially buy the ring until like a month and a half ago.”
Then she put the pieces together. If he’s been wanting to do this for well over a year, he must’ve been telling his family he’s been wanting to.
So that’s why earlier Bulda said ‘If I say anymore Kristoff will kill me’ Anna thought.
“...Did you tell your family about that? Because now that I think about it they’ve been dropping hints all night.”
“To be fair they’ve been dropping hints the whole time. Tonight was probably more than ever because I had said something about wanting to do it tonight, maybe even tomorrow.”
“Well, I’m very glad you did it tonight.” Anna wrapped her arms around Kristoff’s neck and went in for a long and heartwarming kiss. Anna felt his hands come up around her waist.
At one point they got back up on the couch, but it was all in the blur of kisses, hugs and snuggles. Putting on the next movie, that they barely paid attention to, tangled in each other's arms.
“Hey, when you said you were thinking about the future,” Anna heard Kristoff hum, “Were you...I don’t know...thinking about another family….one that….we can start?” Anna tried her best to turn her head to see Kristoff’s reaction.
His eyes were wide, but she could see that there was a hint of promise. “Hmmmm…..maybe we’ll talk about that in the New Year.” Kristoff smiled, but the thought definitely didn’t leave his mind for a while.
Frozen theory
I know this is so stupidly late in coming but bear with me please.
I have this Frozen theory that I’m very fond of (but can’t exactly claim creative credit to). If you didn’t know before, I’m a massive fan of redemption arcs. Just ask Luke Castellan, or Prince Zuko, and of course, Boromir son of Denethor II. (You’ll notice that all of the above listed are adorable males who are complete dorks). Given, it’s only natural that I would bend towards a Hans redemption arc.
A plausible theory that I’ve seen and also developed some on my own is the “Hans mind-control theory”. The idea that Hans of the Southern Isles genuinely was a good person who had nothing but the best intentions towards the royal family of Arendelle, and was only turned villain when he was suddenly mind-controlled to betray his love and her sister instead.
It explains his abrupt change of heart at the climax of the movie. Why would he go from admiring Anna behind her back, defending an image she doesn’t care about, and letting her boss him around to becoming a cunning, honor-less weasel spun up in a treasonous plot?
There is Hans’ treatment of Elsa to consider. In every scene we see them interact, Hans treats Elsa with only the utmost respect that she deserves as a queen. He is chivalrous, and professional, and he fights for her. He defends her reputation and honor from the Duke of Wesellton, he takes care of her people in the aftermath of her outburst, he gives strict orders to keep her out of harm’s way on the North Mountain, and when she is physically attacked, he risks his life to protect her. He brings her to safety when she is knocked unconscious, as opposed to leaving her stranded in the middle of nowhere. He advocates for her freedom to the other ruling officials. Now, you could argue that he does these things simply desiring to be unsuspected by her, but Hans goes out of his way many many times to show kindness in an appropriate, gentlemanly fashion. That is no accident.
I know, I know, it still may be a little far-fetched. After all, who has the kind of magic required to pull off such a feat as mind-control anyway? Okay first, let’s examine the motive and draw.
What was Hans’ main goal before he turned evil? Well, that’s obvious: he was trying to be in love with Anna, and get on Elsa’s good side. And what does that conflict with among the other subplots of the film? Why, everyone’s OTP, Kristanna. And may I ask you who the biggest on-screen shippers were?
That’s right, the helpful, fun-loving, harmless trolls.
Now before you get mad at me for accusing these excitable, well-meaning creatures of voodoo or whatever, hear me out.
Up until that fateful, “if only someone loved you”, no one had any inkling that Hans could have malicious intentions. It isn’t until after Anna and Kristoff meet the trolls that Hans goes a little sideways. Just think for a minute. The second the trolls saw Anna with Kristoff, they started shipping it, trying to marry them. (And we talk about marrying a man you just met). They examine Anna like she’s a kind of livestock fit for making cute babies or something, declaring that “she’ll do nicely for our Kristoff”. No one asked Anna if she even liked Kristoff. No one asked if they even knew each other, or if the big blonde softie was just being nice to a passerby. And if you break down the song “Fixer-upper”, every line is manipulated to convince the couple that the only way to fix their character flaws is to be in love with each other. They insult Kristoff for the entire first half of the song, and while it seems they do it out of endearment (which, if that’s what you consider to be endearing, you need to re-evaluate your sense of endearment), they basically tell Anna that she alone can resolve his issues by giving her love to him, as if her deciding not to would be cruel and heartless.
Even when they learn that Anna is engaged and in love with a different person, they brush it off as “a minor thing”. They deliberately state that they plan to “get the fiancé out of the way” so that they can set Anna and Kristoff up, calling her crazy in the process. We even saw this attitude in the beginning of the film when Kristoff first met the trolls. Upon seeing them, their pseudo mother proclaims, “cuties! I’m gonna keep you!” Which is kidnapping! Kristoff probably had a family! Well we don’t know, and neither did the trolls. They never asked.
So when the plan to marry blondie and ginger fails, and Anna and Kristoff run off to get a true love’s kiss from Hans anyway, that probably doesn’t sit well with the rocky bois. And they definitely have the power to control, or at least manipulate someone’s mind on a magical scale, as we saw early in the movie, with Anna’s memories of Elsa.
Ahem. So this is my theory. The rock trolls—being so excited about their plan to marry Anna to their lovely boy Kristoff—use magic to assume control of Hans’ mind and make him betray Anna, so that both Anna and Elsa will reject him and choose Kristoff instead. What do you guys think?
“In the eye of the storm” ◊◊◊◊ a post-Frozen 2 fanfic ◊◊◊◊ CHAPTER 5: Precipitation
Several days later, they didn't get any news from Anna, and it drove Elsa nervous to no end.
When Eydis was walking by her in the castle, she smiled and waved at her, but the Snow Queen was lost in her daydreams.
One afternoon, Kristoff found Elsa in a bedroom, looking at the rain through the window. He was right when he knew where to head to; the blonde always had a tendency towards quiet rooms with windows for introspection.
"Are you upset?"
Elsa saw him enter in his reflection on the glass, so she didn't startle at his presence.
"Why do you ask?" She muttered.
"You're snowing. I mean... It's snowing. Around your head."
Elsa gasped and waved her hand at the thankfully light snow that had fallen on the carpet. It melted right away, and Kristoff stared at her.
"You're overthinking or upset about something."
The blonde looked down and didn't answer anything else than a sigh, not feeling in the mood to share. He tried humor to light up the moment.
"Funny how it's easy to tell the difference between those snowflakes and the ones you make for Bruni. If he were there, I'm sure he would find their taste different."
Elsa chuckled at last. The little guy obviously would. Those snowflakes were created with an opposite mood; instead of given to him as a treat gift, they were falling unintentionally and due to sadness.
"Do you wanna talk?" Suggested the King, coming near her.
"...Maybe." Finally said Elsa.
"About the Spirits being in conflict or Anna going abroad?"
He could hear Elsa gulp.
"Both?"
The blond put a loving hand on her shoulder. She was still cold, but he didn't care.
"I can't tell you much advice about the Spirits. All I can tell, from my raised-by-trolls point of view, is that magic can be very confusing. And sometimes, you might think something is the way it is, and it actually isn't at all. Mom- Hum, Bulda... She reads emotions in color crystals and can sometimes tell future by the way northern lights move, but she once told me that it's sometimes unreliable."
He smiled, happy to support her, then he realized at how his revelation wasn't really reassuring, and he winced when he saw the side look Elsa gave him.
"Uh... I mean..."
He sighed, dropping his head. "Never mind. I'm not that good at helping magic people."
She had a smile at the corner of her lips. "Quite the opposite, Kristoff. I know you care, and it already lifted my mood a bit."
The blond smiled too. Elsa looked through the window again.
"I know that, even if I still can't tell what is going on with Gale and Nokk, I can still count on your encouragement."
"Anytime."
He then realized that she had included Anna in that 'you'. The King scratched his beard before daring to approach the other topic.
"Truth will come in time, I'm certain of it. Anna will do her part, and you will, and everything will fall into place."
Elsa's hand dramatically passed on the glass of the window. "I miss her already. I know you're here, it's not what I mean... And there's Eydis too... But..."
"Nothing's quite like Anna", understood Kristoff.
"Yes." Sighed Elsa, like it was a weight on her heart, even though everyone in her family knew that she had a special complicity with her younger sister. "And I can't help worrying for her, even if I know she's the strongest person in the world..."
"She'll be fine. You know she'll be fine, right? You're the person who has the most faith in her after me."
Elsa's eyes stopped watching the hills in the distance and she smiled to him again.
"Yes, I know. She could hold the entire world with her dedication." She stated, looking proud.
Her expression vanished a bit.
"She's a thousand times more qualified than me to be Queen."
Kristoff wanted to say she was wrong to reassure her, but it actually was an undeniable fact. Arendelle historians had repetitively told him that Anna already had more efficient decisions and better leadership than any of her predecessors on the throne.
A silence passed, and he noted that Elsa was staring at the hills of the East, the direction in which Anna had been heading. He turned to his sister-in-law with a soft expression.
"You know that despite the lack of news, she's going to come back home, right?"
"Yes, Kristoff, I know." Repeated Elsa once again, a bit upset at how he insisted on facts to take her out of her anxiety.
He noticed. "Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude..."
"I'm aware that I'm overreacting and stressed at nothing. But I can't help it."
She sighed.
"Despite our years of separation in the castle when we were young, I always knew where she was. She was safe in the castle, and her safety was literally the only thing that mattered to me. And for the past 11 years, Gale could tell me if something was wrong anytime and almost instantly. They could even get to me in Ahtohallan or the furthest point in the Forest. Without Gale, I couldn't have known about that time you guys fell into a ravine, remember?"
Kristoff winced at the 2 years old memory. That family picnic had turned sour. "We still owe you one for that moment. Without your ice, the wagon explosion would have wiped us all. And I can't blame Olaf, he wasn't even there."
His humor didn't distract the Snow Queen. Her azure blue eyes were lost in the horizon.
"This is the first time in years that I don't know if Anna is safe or not. And it's nerve-wracking."
"Then forget her."
Elsa turned to him exaggeratedly. "Excuse me?"
The King was about to apologize and change his formulation, though he closed his mouth and stared at her.
"You seem taken aback by her absence. You kind of doubted that a national meeting would take place after she saw the stage of the storm, no?"
"Yes, but I thought that it would happen here, in Arendelle..." Murmured the blonde.
"Oooooh, that's why you're upset. You wanted her to stay here."
Elsa then sighed and buried her head in her hands, groaning.
"I'm such a selfish jerk..."
"No, you're not. Though, I have to admit, that supposition you made in your head was a bit mean for neighbor kingdoms' leaders who you had no guilt to imagine going through the storm until here..." Winced Kristoff. "But I swear you're not selfish, Elsa. You're sincerely one of the most altruistic persons I ever met. And I married someone who keep sacrificing her life for what's good."
A silence followed, and Elsa cried at the thought of Anna's dedication.
"I don't deserve to be her sister..."
She started to sob, and Kristoff hurried to put his hand on her back, slightly rubbing it.
"Hey, hey, don't you dare. She's nothing without you."
He then scoffed at how that sounded. "I mean... Well, you know."
The Snow Queen didn't move. The blond bent his head to find Elsa's gaze and make her look at him, a technique Anna had told him about for when she would have a breakdown. "Elsa."
"What?" She muttered with a sniff.
"You two complete each other no matter the distance. As strong sisters with an unbreakable bond, but also as the Bridge."
Elsa took a moment to let that sink in. "I know."
The King smiled, and he looked through the window along her.
Someone softly knocked at the door.
"Your Majesty... Lady Elsa..." Said Gerda's gentle voice, and they turned around. "I didn't mean to interrupt. Don't mind me, I'm just going to pick up Elsa's empty plate..." She then paused. "But I see that you actually haven't touched it."
Kristoff looked at the meal left on a coffee table by the door.
"Yes... I'm not very hungry." Murmured Elsa.
She had turned back to the window swiftly, and both Kristoff and the maid couldn't tell if it was because she had suddenly seen something in the horizon, or to hide her tears.
Elsa felt guilty for the silence that followed. She turned around again.
"Sorry for refusing those waffles, Gerda. They smell really nice, and it must have taken you a long time to bake them."
"Oh, it's not lost. Far from it. I know a little princess who'll get very hungry after her afternoon lesson."
Elsa smiled at her kindness. "She definitely inherited from her mother's gluttony."
Kristoff giggled in approval.
"I wonder if the languages teacher will quit after teaching both Anna and Eydis." Wondered Gerda. "When I passed by the living room's door an hour ago after making the beds, I heard her ask him to translate 'anvil' in every language he knew."
The Snow Queen burst of laughter, which wasn't very regal, but the servant and the King didn't mind at all; first because Elsa technically didn't have to mind about royal mannerisms anymore, and second because they had missed Elsa's laughter within those walls.
"Her passion for handiwork is not a thing she inherited from Anna, though." Laughed the blonde.
They all chuckled, and Kristoff was delighted to see happiness back on her features.
"Alright then. I'm going to give the waffles to Eydis." Confirmed the maid, and she left the room, closing the door behind her.
Elsa looked at the door with the ghost of her smile still on her lips, and as the rain was getting stronger and stronger outside, Kristoff invited her to go near the fireplace with a gentle hand gesture.
They stood here for a moment, looking at the orange flames, and Elsa missed Bruni's pink ones. She wondered if the tiny Fire Spirit could help her decipher the others' behavior. But she chased that idea of her mind; the Northuldra needed him now, there was no way she would summon him in Arendelle. The Sami tribe needed his magic heat in that storm, and Bruni also was an excellent watchman. Or watchlizard.
Elsa's thoughts drifted to Honeymaren. She hoped that she was alright and took care of her people like she always did.
Kristoff looked at the clock of the room to check time. He then noticed that the blonde's eyes were glistening. However, was it because of emotion or due to staring directly at the fire? He laid against the fireplace's mantel to be aligned with her.
"Are you feeling better?"
"I do, yes. Thank you for your help."
The King frowned and squinted. He knew Elsa enough years to tell when she had something on her mind. Her voice was different.
"Elsa, are you sure that it's all good now?"
"Yes."
She purposely wasn't looking up at him, still staring at the fire, the brightness of it reflecting in her eyes.
"I have to go find Kai, so we do an overview of the afternoon. Just don't do anything unwise and stay safe, okay?"
"Okay, I will."
He hugged her, then exited the room.
Elsa's gaze got lost in the flames, her jaw clenched. She had lied to her brother-in-law. She was going to go find Anna.
=======
The blonde patiently waited for the night to fall and Kristoff to go read a bedtime story to his daughter. Then she sneaked out of the castle, crafting herself a hood made of snow and ice to hide her face as she reached to the stables under the pouring rain.
When the servants there recognized her approach because only one person in the world could be wearing such a magically bright white outfit at this time of the day, she noted that her idea wasn't that clever.
Elsa excused herself as she made her way in, and assured them all to not be alerted as she requested for the fastest horse in the stables.
"Do you really want to go in such a rainfall at that time of day?" Asked one servant.
"Your Highness, are you certain?" Worried a stable boy.
"You shouldn't do such a thing." Advised another one.
She forced herself to smile. "Just indicate me the best horse there is, please."
The servants looked at each other, to dedicated and polite to contradict their ex-monarch.
"Alright. This way." Said a hostler.
She followed him to one of the boxes of the back. He showed Elsa a tall horse, who wasn't bigger than the horses on each side of it, but it looked muscular and definitely had an athletic body shape.
"Here's the fastest we have, Your Highness."
Elsa forgot for a moment the urgency of her plan and dove in the sight of the beautiful stallion. It was entirely brown and had an undeniable royal aura, like it had been waiting for this task all its life.
The Snow Queen had a serious face until now, but started to melt in a smile.
"Hello you."
She walked forward, and lifted a careful hand. The horse blinked as it inspected it, sniffed it, and willingly nuzzled in her palm.
Maybe Honeymaren was right. Maybe she had a natural predisposition for animals. It was true that the blonde now felt like she was connected to Nature, and she was persuaded it was an illusion due to the fact she was embracing her magical powers and Fifth Spirit duty. However, she understood in that moment that there was a true link between that horse and her. Was it destiny? Or shared kindness, which was often a starting point on why Elsa spoke to wild animals in the Enchanted Forest?
She kept smiling and gently passed a hand on its head.
"I've never seen you here... It's a new horse?"
The servant saluted her sense of observation. "Indeed. He just arrived yesterday. He's a foal who recently finished his training and education to be in the royal guard. I was there all along his progress. Trust my words, lady Elsa; this is the fastest horse in all Arendelle."
Elsa carefully listened to all he had said, fascinated, but what mattered most than that to her was if the horse agreed to let her ride him.
"What's his name?" She asked, and she hadn't detached her eyes from him since the beginning.
"Rask."
Elsa smiled widely at the name. "...Rask."
She locked her gaze into his. "Looks like you were destined to this day, uh? This is too many coincidences."
The horse lifted and lowered his head like he was actually nodding, and she chuckled. Slowly, very slowly, and only after making sure he was agreeing, she approached her forehead to his muzzle, and softly touched there with closed eyes.
All the servants stared at the scene in awe.
"You're ready?" Murmured Elsa, stepping back.
Rask neighed, so suddenly and powerfully that she actually winced with a smile, and all startled, because the stables had been silent until now with just their calm voices and the sound of the rain outdoors.
Before riding him, Elsa made sure that everything was alright with his health and cleanliness, then she only accepted the bare necessities when the hostler helped her getting him ready. She refused the saddle, telling the servant that she was used to ride Nokk bareback anyway – and being made of ice most of the time, she had been in the most extreme case – and declined the stirrups as well. It was a good thing to make the horse as free as possible for their very first ride.
"I'll only take the bridle." Concluded Elsa.
They all felt surprised by her choice, but nothing really surprised them about the Snow Queen anymore, so they obeyed and helped her to put the harness on. When the bit was put in his mouth, Elsa felt a pinch to her heart, but she had no choice.
After a while and carefully listening to all their instructions, the blonde walked with him outside and climbed up. She took a moment to get used to his side, for he didn't have quite the same proportions than the form the Water Spirit had chosen to take. At the sight of the rain, she stroked his mane.
"I'm sorry for the weather, dear. But I need you more than anything right now. Let's go check on my sister."
The horse twitched a bit, and it felt like a nod again. She wondered if he could actually understand her.
Elsa deeply thanked the servants and asked them to tell Kristoff and her niece that they shouldn't worry.
She then tapped her ankles against the stallion's sides, and they dashed forward on Arendelle's cobblestones in the dark of the night. As wind whistled to Elsa's ears and rain gushed on her hood, she felt a deep sensation of freedom. Only then she noted how much she had missed this; riding along the hills, taking in the fresh air and the power of her ride with the sound of hooves under her.
She grinned in happiness, her heart also filling with joy as she knew she would be much happier once she would be sure that Anna was alright.
In a few minutes, they were out of the village, and were crossing at full speed the countryside lands of the East toward Hitiheimr.
=======
If she were able to connect with Rask's soul as she did with Nokk, she would congratulate him on how fast he was. The young horse was clever enough to see obstacles in advance, jumping over tree trunks and other accidents that had happened due to the storm. Hopefully, the path was mainly clear, and as her sister had underlined it a few days ago, the road to the Eastern kingdom was easy, for how many times it had been traced by merchants. Despite the heavy rain and mud, her stallion pierced the night like an ice arrow that Elsa would shoot from her bow as she hunted. It was perfect.
Soon, Elsa felt glad to have accepted the bride, for she realized that she had the reflex to ask the horse mentally to turn right or left, before remembering she actually was supposed to tug the reins for directions.
Nokk missed her terribly. At least, with them, she didn't use force during rides. They had become more than just fellow Spirits; the Water one had a unique connection with her, being a one of a kind friend and ally, and she tried to forget them as she was on this 'normal' horse. Nevertheless, Elsa couldn't deny it: the riding sensation was completely different. It was odd to not feel Rask's needs, sensations, and mood. Elsa loved to know how happy Nokk was when they were racing against Gale down the valleys, how sassy he was when he saw a young Northuldra fall off a branch, or how caring he was when he bumped his back to help her stand after a long tiring day.
As she thought again about Nokk's and Gale's friendship, Elsa frowned. Sincerely, how and why did the two Spirits get so angry at each other? As far as she could remember, she had never seen them going further than teasing.
She shook her head as she remained focused on the trail. Unlike when riding the Water Spirit, she couldn't let them do the job entirely and rest on their back from time to time.
A few hours later, something shiny attracted her eye in front of her, and Elsa gasped when she spotted something in the mud of the lane.
She briskly tugged on the horse's reins to make him stop, and he neighed in surprise and pain. She couldn't apologize for the reason of her eagerness, but felt terrible for hurting him.
"I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to pull that hard. I'm very nervous." She whispered to his ears, gently stroking his neck.
Rask forgave her, yet snorted to show his disagreement.
Elsa put him to a complete halt, going down and patting him as she slowly walked to the shining object. What was something like this doing in the wild?
Her eyes squinted through the curtain of rain as she approached, feeling instinctively attracted to the object. Dark clouds were hiding most of the moon, and there was no thunder, so Elsa only had little light. She only then realized that she had been riding in complete dark, too focused on heading straight forward to need a lantern.
The Snow Queen stood above the tiny glossy thing, which seemed less and less natural as Elsa inspected it, and she twirled her wrist to create a glow of blue magic. A snowflake the size of her fist popped from her palm and brightened the whole path, giving her a better vision of it and reflecting in Rask's curious eyes.
She crouched and touched the solid object with her fingers. The blonde felt that it was made of metal, and took it off the soil with ease, thanks to the rain softening it. Elsa's ice sandals were covered with it and her white pants and trains weren't much white anymore, but she didn't care. Her focus was entirely driven to the item, which was larger than she expected as she lifted it.
Turning it in her fingers and approaching the light of her magic to it, she rubbed her thumb over the motives and used the rain to take the dirt out of it, making it shine even more. She frowned with confusion, tilting her head. It was something familiar, yet that she felt like she hadn't seen much... It was the size of her hand and had a curved shape, and when she revealed the seven tips all decorated with embedded crocuses, she squealed in a loud gasp.
Her azure blue eyes widened, along the glow of her snowflake, which become more intense at her distress.
When Anna arrived at The Snøffnug Café the following morning, she was surprised when Cliff called her over for an actual conversation instead of his usual simple greeting. He was holding something in his hand.
“I went over to Arendelle on the train yesterday.” Anna nodded at his statement; she remembered him mentioning he was going to visit his niece. “There was a lady handing out these flyers. At first, I was going to tell her to fuck off, but then I looked at it and well, I thought of you. Here.”
He thrust it towards her, and she took it gingerly, wondering what it could possibly say to make Cliff think of her. “‘Arendelle Pie Contest’,” she read aloud. She looked up at him, genuinely touched that he had thought to bring this to her.
“First prize is $50,000. If I could make more than toast, I’d enter myself.” Anna was shocked to hear him chuckle to himself. Cliff had been her boss since she was eighteen, and she could count the number of times she’d heard him laugh on one hand.
“Yeah, but the entrance fee is $200!” she read, eyes opening wide. “I don’t have that sort of money just lying around.”
She was already moving to put the flyer to one side, giving up on even the possibility of entering, when Cliff pressed, “Anna, the closing date for applications isn’t until April. That’s three months away. You’ve got time to save up.”
Anna was still feeling extremely reluctant, but she appreciated the effort Cliff had taken to give this to her, so she carefully folded it and slid it into her apron pocket. “I’ll think about it,” she conceded.
“You do that.” It was the closest she’d ever heard him come to sounding gentle. “But how about doing some work while you’re thinking about it? Come on, pies don’t bake themselves.”
Anna allowed herself to smile as he snapped back to his normal self. “Yes, Cliff, I’ll get right to it.” She turned back to him when she reached the kitchen door. “And thank you.”
In response, she got only a disgruntled grumble, but she knew what sentiment lay behind it.
For the pie that day, Anna decided to create a filling from strawberries and rhubarb. It would be sweet, with a bit of tang to it to balance it out. With practised hands, she set off the soup stewing on the stove and started to prepare the dough. The fruits were fragrant, and Anna allowed herself to focus on it as she worked, tossing in ingredients without the need to measure. She knew exactly how much was needed by now.
Her mind wandered to Kristoff, and the day before. As she’d hurried home, she’d told herself that it was her who moved to kiss him. He had showed no interest, and she, full of pregnancy hormones, had tried to take advantage of the situation and the man who’d done nothing but care for her. She thought she was pathetic, and desperate, and was humiliated with herself.
But now, as her mind was cleared by the sharp scent of stewing rhubarb and sweet strawberries, she remembered how he held her. How his arm felt around her waist, how his hand had cupped her face so tenderly. She remembered that he had made the first move, when he moved her hair. No, it hadn’t been the one-sided act of a pathetic woman. It was the shared passion of two people brought together under hopeless circumstances.
She was so absorbed in what she was doing that at first she didn’t notice the commotion in the adjoining room. It was Elsa’s cry of, “Please, just take your bouquet and get out!” that snapped her out of it.
Anna hurried to the door to see everyone gawking at Elsa at one end of the room, and a dark-haired woman at the other. Bulda was wearing a shit-eating grin, and Anna couldn’t help but mirror it as she realised what was happening.
After Elsa’s date the other night, she had gushed to the pair of them about how incredible it had been. The woman she’d met – Honeymaren, Anna vaguely recollected – had been charming, and funny, and beautiful, and Elsa said that she’d felt a ‘spark’ with a dreamy look on her face. Bulda’s throwaway remark of “Sounds serious,” had been the thing that set off Elsa’s anxiety once more.
What if Honeymaren realised that Elsa wasn’t good enough? What if the brunette was a serial killer and Elsa her next victim? What if they got married and were unequivocally happy forever?
Elsa had blanched, and couldn’t form a message to send to her date. And now, it seemed that if Honeymaren wasn’t going to hear from Elsa online, she was determined enough to turn up at the café to speak to her in person.
“Elsa, listen,” Honeymaren stated. “I am going to sit down in this chair.” As she spoke, she pulled out the chair in question and perched herself on it. “I’m just an ordinary customer. You don’t even have to serve me; you can get your co-workers to do it. But, when you have a minute, I just want to talk. No pressure. Just talking.”
Anna watched Elsa’s tension ease slightly, and felt impressed. Honeymaren understood the delicate blonde, and seemed to know how to get through to her. She was sitting in her chair, reading her menu, and adding no pressure on Elsa at all. The other customers turned back to their own tables, realising that the show was over. Anna realised the same, and turned to go back to her pie, pausing at the café’s phone as she remembered her thoughts earlier.
“Hello,” she said softly when the receptionist picked up. “I need an appointment to see Dr Bjorgman, please. Today, if possible. It’s important.”
 ~
 Kristoff’s concern was palpable as he sat opposite her at the computer.
“What’s wrong? The receptionist said it was urgent.”
Now that she was here, Anna felt extremely stupid. Kristoff had other patients, and she was keeping him from them for the sake of a conversation. “I- I’m fine. I just wanted to talk to you… about yesterday.”
He cleared his throat, and Anna saw a hint of a blush appear on his face. “We can pretend that nothing happened. Nothing- nothing did happen. It’s not even pretending! I didn’t breach any codes of conduct-”
Somehow, his nervous confirmation that they had shared a ‘moment’ yesterday reassured her. “Kristoff.” She silenced his rambling. “I don’t- I don’t want to pretend that nothing happened. If no one came in yesterday, something would have happened. And I don’t think I would have minded.” She heard his breath hitch, and she reached for his hands, pulling him to his feet as she stood up. “Please, let this happen.”
She leaned up as she had done yesterday, and relief flooded her as Kristoff leaned down and pressed his lips to hers.
They were soft, she noticed, and just as gentle as he always was with her. She stepped forward, pressing closer to him as her hands let go of his and wandered over his back, stroking at his shoulders, and tangling her fingers in his hair.
He shivered at her touch on his scalp, and his hands went to her waist, gripping the soft skin there softly through her uniform dress. She let out a soft sigh, and he hummed lightly against her lips as she tugged on his hair gently.
Anna had heard people talking about time standing still, but she never understood it until this moment.
When they pulled apart, their cheeks were flushed, and Anna noticed with some pride that they were both rather breathless. Tenderly, he leaned down to press his forehead to her own. Anna hadn’t felt such genuine affection for years, and she couldn’t help but whisper, “This is such a bad idea,” even as her arms wrapped tighter around his neck.
“I agree, it’s a terrible idea.”
“We’re both married.” It wasn’t far for Anna to tilt her chin, pressing a series of kisses against his throat, and making him groan. “And you’re my doctor.”
His hand ran up her spine in a way that made her skin tingle all over. “And you’re pregnant.” Anna felt the palms of his hands on her cheeks, and his thumbs ghosted over either side of her jaw, before he pulled her into another passionate kiss.
Anna didn’t know what came over her as her hands rose to his chest, unbuttoning his shirt even as she pushed him backwards towards the examination bed. With Kristoff, she always felt safe, but now she felt a rush of confidence and desire that had apparently made her totally lose any semblance of self-composure.
Kristoff let her fumble with his buttons as his hands moved to her ass, squeezing firmly and making her gasp and giggle against his lips. Suddenly he broke away, allowing her lips to leave little pecks along his jawline even as his hands covered her own and ceased her undressing.
“Anna-” he whispered hoarsely. “We can’t do this here. The door doesn’t lock, and anyone could see.” She stilled, and he let go of her hands to swiftly cross the room. She felt bereft without his body pressed against her own.
Anna had chance to regain her senses as she watched him writing something down, tearing off the sheet from his notepad when he was done. He smiled at her softly as he strode back to her and pressed it into her hands.
“This is my address. I know we can’t set an actual time, your husband-” She grimaced, and he quickly sidestepped that thought. “Whenever you can get away without being seen, please come. We won’t be disturbed there.”
Anna folded the paper carefully and placed it in her pocket with the flyer for the pie contest. It reminded her of the day a few months earlier when she’d had an alcoholism leaflet and a phone number instead. Only this time, she wasn’t going to throw either of them away.
He softly tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, and she smoothed her own fingers through his, taming the flyaways and tangles she’d caused. “Hey, this way, you have a chance to talk yourself out of this dreadful idea.”
She laughed, helping him to rebutton his shirt. “Something tells me that I won’t.”
Before she left, he pressed a quick kiss to her cheek. Anna found her hand brushing against the spot as she walked out into the already-darkening evening.
She didn’t think that it was wise to bring home the flyer, and it certainly wasn’t wise to bring home the address. She knew that Hans did occasionally check her pockets, and that risk was too great for her to risk it.
Instead, she decided to return to the café, and use the spare key behind a loose brick by the door to let herself in. There were some cookbooks in the kitchen that would make a good hiding place for her to tuck her precious papers into.
As she had expected, The Snøffnug Café was in darkness as she approached it. The key was right where she knew it would be, and she unlocked the door, using her phone as a torch as she stepped inside. When she switched on the lights once she got inside, she froze in the doorway in shock. “Oh my god!” she cried as she took in the image in front of her.
On one of the booths against the far wall, Bulda was perched precariously. And beneath – or, more accurately, within – her was Cliff.
They were just as shocked to see her as she was to see them, and Anna scurried into the kitchen as they sprang apart. After a few moments, Anna heard Cliff tell Bulda to lock up, before the bell rang and he made his exit.
“Anna-” Bulda’s voice was unusually hesitant as she walked into the kitchen.
“You, you- with Cliff?”
“Very articulate, sweetie.” Bulda let out a soft laugh, covering her face. “Oh god. I can’t believe it.”
“Bulda, your husband-”
“-Has been sleeping with Gerda from the pharmacy for months. Anna, don’t you dare judge me. Don’t you dare.” The anger in her tone caused Anna to pause. Bulda’s hands dropped from her face, and she looked commanding and certain.
Anna’s voice came as a whisper. “I’m sorry.”
“Listen, I don’t want you to think that this is something that I do a lot. Cliff is the first man besides my husband that I have been with in years. I’m not the one who started it; in fact it wouldn’t have happened in the first place if Kai and Gerda hadn’t been so fucking blatant about what they were up to. No, I didn’t plan for this to happen, but it did, and you know what? I don’t regret a single second of it.
“I’ve been seeing Cliff since before Christmas, and it’s made me feel alive again, Anna. I know that cheating is wrong, blah, blah, blah. I don’t care. I deserve to feel alive. I deserve it.” The older woman’s eyes filled with tears.
“I understand, Bulda.”
For the first time that evening, Bulda took in Anna’s appearance. Her lips were slightly swollen from kisses, and her cheeks were still flushed. Her eyes sparkled with the kind of joy and excitement that she hadn’t seen in her friend for years. “For what it’s worth, Anna, you deserve to feel alive too.”
Anna took a deep breath before she said her next words. “I know.” Then, she smiled at Bulda, and asked her to grab one of Anna’s recipe books from the shelf. Anna opened the book to the page titled ‘Mermaid Marshmallow Pie’ in her own neat handwriting, and Bulda watched in silence as she placed the pie contest flyer inside. When Anna placed the address on top of it, Bulda’s face went from curiosity, to realisation, to a delighted grin.
“That’s my girl,” she murmured proudly.
#5 - “Twenty Kilos”
Tumblr media
"Would you like to come live with me?" It was the first message she ever received from her sister, and they haven't looked back since. A collection of non-chronological frohana oneshots set in a modern AU.
A backstory chapter in which Anna calls Elsa about a guy she met at the gym.
Read below, or follow on FF.net and AO3!
----
Twenty Kilos
"Oh my god, sis. You are not going to believe what just happened to me."
"Are you okay? Where are you? Are you okay?"
"You asked that twice. I didn't mean something literally happened to me… well, kinda. So I checked out that gym two blocks down—you know, the one next to the flower shop? The nice lady gave me a free trial so I—"
"You haven't answered my question. Are you okay?"
"I'm peachy! What about you? Whatcha doing?"
"Cleaning up the tea I spilled because you scared me."
"Oops, sorry. So anyway, I ran back to the apartment and threw on some exercise gear then sprinted back to the gym. Perfect distance for a warmup. There I am, doing deadlifts to their adorable retro playlist—"
"I'm sorry, you were doing what?"
"Rocking to Never Gonna Give You Up?"
"No, before that. You were… lifting the dead? Anna? Please say something. I can't tell if you're laughing or choking."
"I… I can't…"
"Breathe?"
"Deadlifts are an exercise! For your legs!"
"Then why are they not called leg lifts?"
"Because that's a whole different exercise. For your abs. Which is so weird now that I think about it—but never mind that. I'm resting between sets, right? And suddenly this massive shadow falls over me. It's the big guy from the next rack over. I've been watching him—well, not watching him; there's a huge mirror, totally unavoidable—and he lifts, like, twice my body weight. Very impressive. Then he looks at me and grunts, 'Twenty kilos'. I thought he was body-shaming me so I absolutely laid into him—"
"You picked a fight with a stranger twice your weight? Anna, that is like running into fire!"
"I said he lifted twice my weight… although he probably is also twice my weight. Big muscles. But that's not the point! He just, like, stood there while I blasted him about toxic masculinity and down with the patriarchy blah blah blah. And at the end of it all, you know what he said?"
"'I'm sorry'?"
"'Behind you'."
"Should I know what that means?"
"Elsa, he came over to ask for a twenty-kilo weight plate. That was behind me. And I called him a sexist musclehead."
"Oh, Anna."
"Right?! I felt so bad I dragged him downstairs and bought him donuts, and it turns out he's really sweet so we've decided to elope to New Zealand."
"Wait, what? Please tell me you're joking. Anna? Please. Tell me. You're joking."
"Hey now, it's the twenty-first century. It's not like I need my sister's blessing to fall in love with a nice guy."
"No, but with your track record…"
"Hey, it was one time!"
"You were months away from marrying an unredeemable monster."
"Yeah, but Kristoff is different! He has a super cute Samoyed called Sven. We're heading over now."
"You're going to his house?"
"Of course not, silly. We're going to the airport! New Zealand, remember?"
"The airport—you can't just—I don't… Anna! Stop laughing; this isn't funny!"
"Aww, Els, just open up. You'll see."
"No, this is not about me keeping an open mind; it's about you giving your heart away to a sweaty man you just met today. I understand he may be a perfectly decent person, but I don't care how fluffy his dog is—you can't get on that plane. Please, Anna. I'll come get you. Where are you now?"
"I'm outside."
"Good. With other people around?"
"With your secretary, actually. Waiting for you to open the door so we can psychoanalyse Kristoff's social media and figure out whether or not I should make friends with him. Also, you're a gullible dork and I bought you donuts."
"… I hate you."
A Frozen Rant in Three Parts
Frozen 2 hits theaters this Friday, November 22nd and before I take my son to see it I wanted to say some things about it's predecessor.
I missed Frozen when it first came out. My son was just over a year old and I was getting ready to start my freshman year and it flew way under my radar. I kept hearing about this great feminist Disney movie that put the other Disney princesses to shame and then a year later I actually see the movie and I was...perplexed. The movie I saw was narratively inconsistent, had very thin characters and had a twist that didn't actually make any sense.
That said, let’s get into rant number one: Frozen is not the most empowering female-led Disney movie ever made.
First by me saying, there will be no princess slander here. The hate the Disney princesses get for being bad role models when in actuality they showcase a wide variety of personalities, interests and desires is ridiculous and I do not partake. Second, there is nothing inherently feminist or empowering about Anna not marrying Kristoff or Elsa telling Anna she can't marry a person she just met.
Mulan didn't get married right away. Jasmine doesn't get married right away (it's even a plot point in the third movie!) Moana doesn't get a love interest at all. Rapunzel doesn't get married right away. So not getting married is not a new thing. Let's stop with that specifically.
Furthermore, refusing to get married and punching a guy in the face is in fact NOT the most badass, female empowerment thing to happen in a Disney movie.
Mulan saved China.
Tumblr media
Tiana opened her own restaurant during the Jim Crow era in the South.
Tumblr media
Nani actively refuses a relationship with David because she has other priorities.
Tumblr media
Esmeralda openly encouraged people to protest injustice
Tumblr media
And you know what all of these women have in common? They're all traditionally animated!
...but no seriously, even though Disney has struggled with representing people of color in their movies, when they do, they tend to have far more agency and do far more than anything Anna and Elsa did in Frozen. It's not even close.
FROZEN 2 THOUGHTS ABOUT KRISTOFF, ANNA, AND KRISTANNA RELATIONSHIP.
I can't believe i'll said this.
I never cared about Anna and Kristoff, let alone Kristanna before. (Because i'm all about Hans and Helsa only and you know it).
But after watching Frozen 2, i feel like Disney really REALLY did dirty about this couple. Especially to Kristoff. About their relationship.
This going to be a ramble, forgive for my grammar or such since i'm a non native english speaking.
I'm fed up with Disney or this people said Kristoff is like a good example of soft-masculinity stuff just because a simple line as "I'm here, what do you need?" Sure, i appreciate, we should appreciate him for asking Anna first before doing something to help her, but guys.... are you blind or what for not care enough of what Kristoff did throughout the movie?
All i can see him since the opening of the song was "I'm in love with this girl and i can't help to nuts with her!" All this angry elementals and no-future with Arendelle and all he was thinking was "How to propose to Anna"? And no, don't give me the speculation ot rumor of "Oh they probably did more than kissing especially after the leather comment" because that's not going to be the point in this topic here.
We are talking about Kristoff. He was kind, honest, so relatable and still logical in Frozen 1 movie, he made comments and thoughts we have for scenes in Frozen 1 like "i'm going to tell him" (about Olaf loving summer), he made comment to Anna who was agree on marrying Hans the first time they met, and actually a lot, and i'm sure you get it. We also get a glimpse of him being in a conflicted moment like when his sled was broken and he was considering to keep accompanied Anna to the North Mountain, like a normal human being and that's makes him a relatable character.
In Frozen 2, he is still this kind and honest guy, but suddenly they just make him in this lovey-dovey boy character which his purpose for the entire movie was for marrying Anna, they were like kicked out the relatable and logical characteristic in him, who even in the right mind to still thinking on how to propose your girlfriend after you finding out a new clan in the middle of a forest covered in a mist?, he lost his character and Disney tried to cover that by giving this "Soft-Masculinity" stuff to the media. Acted like they cared about him while it's so obvious that they make him like that in thr movie because they were confused on what should they do with the other characters besides Anna and Elsa in the movie. (Another evidence is by how they portrayed Honeymaren, Ryder, Yelena, and L. Mattghias, but that's another things).
If that's not obvious enough, they just let you know Kristoff ended up wondering around in the forest alone with Sven and suddenly being in the right place and in the right moment when Anna was almost stepped out by the giants.
His song didn't help either. I was cringing so hard on that scene. The song and him in the clip was like out of the place. Like it doesn't fit there. The movie looked so mature but there are scenes, i'm not going to call it childish because it looked more absurd and unfitting, inserted into the movie that make the pace feels weird. And Kristoff sang scene was one of them. None of the kids care enough for that scene after all.
He just simply let the fact Anna left him alone, with this new people they just discovered. What if the Northuldran actually not a good community? What if Matthias actually just set them up? What if they are not actually what they seemed? Anna didn't seems to think about that, think about Kristoff safety, how confused he would be when he realized that they just left him alone in the unknown forest with new people. She just LEFT HIM.
I get it that Elsa is her priority. I get it that maybe she believed in Kristoff more since he lived in the forest since he was a child. I get it that she was covered in fright of losing her sister. But leaving behind somebody that you already considered family, a friend, a boyfriend, without any message, without trying to at least looking for them, is wrong. And that's actually could lead to several problems in their relationship.
I'm surprised that Kristoff didn't show any anger, any despair, or any expressions to show his dissapontment any further and ended up showing how positive he accepted it. What? The woman you are willing to married just simply leave you like that for her sister, how many times you got this treatments that you ended up just simply accepted it? :|
I feel like it's always Kristoff that easily relent everything to Anna. I never see Anna do the same. If Kristoff keep doing this things in their relationship, he could probably end up being enough and be like "Okay! This is enough, i'm done! Now you listen to me!" I'm sorry, but this make me viewed their relationship as unhealty. Too much positivity from one side. In this case is from Kristoff. It's not good. It's not healty.
And i think they need to fix all of that first before the engangement thing to happen, especially on how serious Anna view their relationship.
ESPECIALLY, NOW ANNA IS THE QUEEN. I can see them as normal couple being together in simple life only. Don't get me wrong, i'm happy that Anna got the recognition she supposed to have, but i feel bad that she ended up being queen. You know a Queen is supposed to behave, need to think strategically, mostly spends her time in the office with piles of works, spends more time in the castle for meetings, talking to dignitaries and all, well anything i feel like ended up making Anna trapped her social and free-spirited characteristic.
And i'm afraid this also would effect their relationship because Kristoff is the "nature" guy type. Honest with me! Can you see him, Kristoff, being called Prince-Consort, King-Consort, or even King of Arendelle??? Because i'm not. In their 3 years together, Kristoff still uncomfortable using suits, and that speaks a lot. He probably under pressure to use this all the time. I really can't picture him or Anna as the leader in Arendelle.
But yeah it's canon, soooo we must accept it after all. I'm sorry if my opinion about Kristoff, Anna and their relationship sounds like a diss for them, but yeah it is. Sorry if you feel triggered by it, but this all just my disagreement about what Frozen 2 did to them and how disrty they did him in here. We need Kristoff appreciation after all. He is an interesting character too, my other boi after Hans in Frozen universe, i just hate Disney literally pushed his character out on the cliff. 🙃
If you guys have your own opinion, i would like to read it too.
FF           Ao3
Chapter One: The Proposal
Emma paced back and forth around the war room, her arms crossed tightly over her chest, her skirt flowing out behind her. There had to be another way. This simply could not be the way to end the war. He’s their enemy, their forces were in a stalemate and have been for months now, neither side showing any weakness. All the while men are dying on both sides. Far too much death. There had been talk in the villages if the war was even worth it anymore. The war against the kingdom of Montave had been dragging on for almost thirteen years now. Most of Emma’s life had been spent in wartime and not peace time. There were many ways to end a war, but Emma couldn’t imagine this could be the best way, the only way.
Emma turned on her heel to face her parents. How Queen Snow and King David, the epitome of true love, could bring this to their own daughter was beyond Emma. The war had aged them significantly. Snow had salt and pepper hair and crow’s feet in the corners of her eyes that weren’t present when this war began. David’s blond hair had been able to hide the gray hair more efficiently, but he was injured in the early years of the war and required a cane to move about the castle.
“There has to be another way!” Emma threw her hands in the air. This was not the answer to all their problems. It couldn’t be.
“Emma,” her mother said reproachfully.
“Whose idea was this anyway?” Emma’s eyes flitting between her mother and father.
“Theirs, a message came from Queen Elsa,” David said, bitterness in every word. Elsa, who used to be their ally. That was until Montave surrounded Arendelle’s capital and Elsa surrendered to protect her people. She was married off to the King of Montave and Arendelle was absorbed into Montave. The castle was kept in Arendelle for Anna to live in, and supposedly the married couple visited her often. At least that was what the Misthaven spies reported.
“That’s not what I was referring to, which one of you thought I should accept this?” Emma asked her father.
“Emma, this war has to end. If it doesn’t the people will turn on us if they haven’t already. Everyday more men return home to be buried. They cannot take much more and I’m not sure I can either. This is the only clear way out!” Snow pounded her fist against the old oak table. Her mother’s words struck Emma. It seemed silly that a marriage could end a war, could lead them to peace, could change their world.
“Emma, we always wanted you to choose like we did, but I’m afraid choices aren’t the same in wartime as they are in peacetime. We need you to marry him for the kingdom, but more importantly for our family. The people will revolt and kill us soon, if this is allowed to continue on,” David said sternly. Her shoulders slumped, if her father, her greatest protector, the biggest champion of her freedom was telling her to do this then there were no other options.
Emma looked down at her scarred, right arm, the black and blue markings trailing down from below her elbow to the palm of her hand. She clenched her fist before clearing her throat, “Send a message stating that I accept the terms of the treaty and will marry Prince Killian in an attempt to unify the kingdoms.” Relief washed over her parent’s faces, but before they could say another word Emma stormed out.
 Emma left Misthaven two weeks later on a ship with a small crew and a couple knights headed for Arendelle. The two kingdoms agreed to meet there since David refused to send his only daughter to Montave’s capital. Emma was to sign the treaty in Arendelle as Misthaven’s representative, then return with Prince Killian for a royal wedding which would occur in the spring when the King and Queen of Montave could attend (Elsa is with child at the present moment and cannot travel outside of the kingdom in her current state). The thought made Emma’s stomach roll. She knew soon she’ll be expected to bear the prince’s children, they’ll be the future bloodline of Misthaven after all. She pushed the thought out of her mind for the moment. Many hard choices had been made in this war, but this choice had been the hardest of all for Emma. If this truly stopped the needless bloodshed, she’ll do it. The kingdoms had agreed to a ceasefire while the treaty was being signed, that gave her some small shred of peace.
Her knights, August and Graham were sent to ensure her safety. Graham had been adamant that this is an elaborate trap to kill Emma, heir to Misthaven’s throne. Emma still isn’t convinced it is a trap, but she definitely felt better with them by her side.
Their journey was lengthened at sea when a storm threatened to capsize them. The ship’s crew is talented and vigilant and guided them through to the best of their ability. The ship met Arendelle’s shore just ten days after their departure from Misthaven. Emma nearly threw up when they docked because she finally has to meet her fate, she has to marry her enemy. Before the war she only met Montave’s royal family once and she barely remembered the dark-haired brothers who grew into their roles as Prince and King of Montave. She only knew them as her enemy, as the ones who killed her people, burned their crops, and sunk many of their ships. Now, she has to marry the enemy. She almost laughed at the notion still, it’s ridiculous that she has to marry a man who has caused such harm to her people. Perhaps he felt the same way about her though.
Emma collected herself enough to place a tiara in her hair and pull on the white gloves to cover up her scars. She finally left the ship and found a welcome party comprised of Anna and her fiancé, Kristoff, a duke from up north who has improved ice trade with Montave’s capital.
“Emma!” Anna cried out practically jumping up and down, “It’s been too long. You’re so beautiful! I’ve missed you and I know Elsa has too. You’ll see her at dinner. You brought knights?” Her rapid-fire speech screeching to a halt, one eyebrow lifted.
“Anna, it’s good to see you. Yes, I did. Don’t worry your King approved them,” Emma said with her shoulders thrown back, her stance tall and head held high.
“I’m not worried about that. Emma, you’re safe here, you didn’t need to bring them.” Anna shook her head in disbelief. Anna had always been a little naive, but Emma can’t believe that Anna had managed to keep that during the war. Of course, Emma needed them! Emma didn’t feel safe here. Not anymore, she’s in the middle of enemy territory. The war changed that. Montave changed that.
“Your Highness, King David wanted to ensure Princess Emma’s safe passage. He meant no offense.” Graham kindly came to her defense when words failed Emma. Anna smiled at this.
“Oh of course, how silly of me. By the way this is Kristoff,” Anna introduced them as they walked down the docks and toward the castle. Anna’s gaze kept flitting to gloves, curiosity growing.
“Nice to meet you,” Emma nodded to him.
“You as well, Anna has been excited about your arrival. She considers you a friend,” he said kindly.
“I wasn’t sure after all this time, but I’m glad she does. I’ve always considered her and Elsa to be one as well.” Kristoff nodded and he and Anna led the way in. Anna still talking at a mile a minute. Graham and August fell in line with Emma. Graham’s hand brushed hers, catching her attention.
“You can’t freeze like that again. This peace is fragile, and you will not die on my watch,” he whispered.
“Her naivete surprised me, I don’t know how it lasted through the war. It won’t happen again.” Emma kept her gaze forward; she couldn’t look at him now. They stayed silent so Emma could answer all of Anna’s many, many questions. The eager princess led them through the castle doors.
“I had them place you in the west wing, it has a beautiful view of the harbor and your knight’s room is next to yours of course. The west wing is also where Prince Killian’s rooms are,” Anna informed her. Emma nodded and made a mental note of that. She could feel the gears grinding in Graham’s head.
“Have you met him before?” Anna asked her as they walked down a long hallway.
“I think once when we were little at one of Ariel’s balls. Not that I remember much I couldn’t have been more than seven.” Emma frowned, unsure. They came to a stop at the end of the hallway. Emma’s room was the last door with Graham and August’s room being the one before hers. No sign of Prince Killian’s room, thankfully.
“Oh well you’ll officially meet everyone at dinner. I’ll let you rest until then, it’s good to have you here.” Anna hugged her and Emma tentatively patted her back. Kristoff simply waved goodbye before vanishing with his fiancé. Graham and August led the way into Emma’s suite, clearing it making sure no one was lying in wait for her. When the door shut the three of them breathed a little easier.
“So far no attempts on your life, that’s good,” August mumbled to himself.
“They could be lulling us into a false sense of security. Keep your guard up,” Graham warned them.
“That’s enough,” Emma told them, “I’m going to lie down until dinner.”
“Of course, Princess,” they both nodded before leaving her suite. None of her trunks were there yet so she’d have to wait to change into her gown for the night. Emma took off her tiara and set it on the vanity, hoping to catch a quick nap, hopefully that would help her collect herself.
Graham insisted on walking her to dinner and Emma found it completely ridiculous and a little insulting.
“Graham, I can walk on my own, do you think my future husband will strike me down the moment he meets me? They need this as much as we do.” Emma placed her tiara back on her head, the metaphorical weight of it bringing her down.
“He might, cannot be too careful with these Montavians,” he bristled. Emma stood from her spot at the vanity, smoothing out her silk, pale green dress. She quickly pulled on the pearl colored gloves that covered the blue and black scars that creep up her arm.
“You’re ridiculous, but fine do what you want.” Emma shook her head, unsure what had gotten into her most trusted knight.
“I will do what it takes to protect you.” Emma had no response to this because she expected nothing less from him, he’s stubborn and not afraid of her and that was the exact reason her father sent him with her. They stalked out of her room in silence. They met no one along the way and don’t see a soul until they descend the grand staircase. The duo were directed by a valet to a sitting room with Anna, Kristoff, Elsa chatting in one corner and King Liam and Prince Killian whispering by the fireplace. All eyes rested on Emma. No one moved for what felt like several long moments. Emma stood before her enemies not on the battlefield as she had imagined many times, but in her old friend’s castle in a dress about to have dinner with them. The choices made in war will never stop shocking Emma.
Anna clapped and rushed over to Emma, “Oh Emma, you’re beautiful! I mean of course you were earlier, but this dress is much nicer than your traveling one.” Oh, if only Anna knew how wrong she was, Emma thought to herself. Not many outside of Misthaven have seen her scars, not many knew how they marred her pale skin.
“Princess, I’ll be leaving you now,” Graham whispered, and she nodded. The door clicked shut behind him and Emma turned back to the room. She noticed that Elsa stepped forward, one hand over a small baby bump.
“Thank you, Anna. You look beautiful tonight as well,” Emma forced out a smile. Elsa held out a hand.
“Old friend, how long has it been?” Elsa asked her as Emma moved forward and accepted her hand. Emma squeezed her hand.
“Too long, you look well. Motherhood will suit you I can already tell.” In the past years she had missed Elsa dearly. Hopefully one good thing from this marriage will be she’ll gain back friends she thought were long lost.
“You’re too kind,” Elsa blushed slightly before turning to her husband, “I’ll be making the introductions it seems. King Liam of Montave, Great Protector of the Sea and of course my husband this is Princess Emma, heir to Misthaven’s throne.” Liam walked forward, no emotion discernible on his face, his curly, dark hair is neatly trimmed, and his eyes are a piercing blue. Emma curtsied and Liam took Emma’s gloved hand in his.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty. Thank you for your warm welcome and generous hospitality,” Emma managed to get out without sounding hostile. He dropped her gloved hand gracefully.
“You are most welcome, thank you for making the journey. Now, Killian will you please stop sulking by the fire and meet your bride,” Liam said only in the way an older sibling could.
“There was no sulking, merely standing out of the way of His Majesty,” Killian jested as he swaggered up to the trio. Anna and Kristoff stood back, quietly watching and waiting.
“Your Highness may I introduce, Prince Killian of Montave, Chief Commander of the Seven Fleets and your future husband,” Liam said slyly. Emma curtsied then Killian took her hand and brushed his lips across the back of her gloved hand. One of his hands had an expansive scar across the back of it. Emma almost laughed maybe they are more well matched than previously thought. Killian is a little shorter than his brother, his hair is straight where his brother’s is curly. His dark, almost jet-black hair somehow making his deep blue eyes seem brighter than possible. Everyone failed to mention how attractive the enemy was.
“A pleasure, Princess. Ready to bring peace to the realm?” he asked her.
“Yes, war is an ugly thing.” Killian dropped her hand and gave her an appraising look. A look that made one feel like they were about to be sold off to the highest bidder
“Elsa, you underplayed how beautiful she is,” he teased. Emma had to restrain her eye roll at his attempt at flattery. This was a political marriage he didn’t need to seduce her. Would he still want this marriage when he realized he was getting a scarred bride? Would the end of the war be worth it to him or did he merely want a pretty face? Elsa swatted at his arm.
“Killian, I did no such thing and you know it.” That’s when it dawned on Emma that Elsa may not have been forced to marry into this family at all, she may have wanted it. Thankfully a valet came in and told them that dinner is ready. This was only the beginning of her trip and Emma knew it would take all her considerable wit and charm to make it home.
