May TBR. I FINALLY finished The Raven Boys. Just started Queen of Ieflaria and already like the tone of it. A Duke in Disguise was a good start, but I got into a bit of a slump that I hope to pull myself out of because I like Cat Sebastian's other works. Storm Born is a reread. Not pictured: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes which will release later this month. #books #reading #catsebastian #adukeindisguise #theregencyimposters #effiecalvin #thequeenofieflaria #talesofinthya #richellemead #stormborn #eugeniemarkham #suzannecollins #balladofsongbirdsandsnakes #thehungergames https://www.instagram.com/p/B_up35XnmoqVOumuKo9X2Eg60WppKsYGUnBGEA0/?igshid=121e0ognbmmpk

Recently read Daughter of the Sun by @effiecalvin, which is a cute enemies-to-lovers story between a paladin and a chaos goddess turned mortal.

Y'all, I've bought the Tales of Inthya series again, for the 5th or 6th time (ya girl gets desperate to talk to people about the things she obsesses over, kay?), because the 5th book is about to drop and I'm just twiddling my thumbs waiting for Nov. 6th (and by twiddling my thumbs, I mean working to finish my last year in law school, which is why I've been scarce on here, btw).
I'm sure you've heard about the series already, it's got magic, dragons, gods, world-building that'd make Tolkien cry, and it's just fukin packed with wlw. Lesbian princesses? Check. Lesbian knight pining like 40 feet from her gay dads' house? Check. God who thought she was above these mortals falling hopelessly in love with the mortal sent to kill her? Check. Daring rescues of queer damsels by god-induced power trips of a different gay damsel (which is also my favorite scene of any book of all time that has ever existed ever)? Check. Really nice cover art on the books? Check. A non-binary deity of creation? Check. A fight between mother and daughter that has every bit of my unfortunately-perfectionist-nature-fueled-by-my-parents'-expectations rooting for the protagonist? Triple check.
My gays and queers, this series has everything. The author is over at @effiecalvin and, might I add, the 5th book is on a preorder sale thing for like $6. For your serotonin levels and mine, read this series. It's also available in audiobooks.
I didn't add links cuz I'm on mobile and I'm a hobgoblin, but Ms. Calvin's tumblr is right there so get to lookin. If you want links in your DMs tho, send me a message, I'm more than happy to deliver.

Weekley Roundup 2/20/21
My Writing
I posted Boomerang Ch 11 M, 11/?, Avalance! After 2+ years without an update I’m so glad to finally add in this chapter. This is a childhood AU where Sara and Ava meet each other in middle school and evolves from there.
I’m working on:
Boomerang Chapter 12: 0%  While ideally I’d like to post once a week, I will probably end up aiming to post every other week.
A Rosita/Wynonna and Wayhaught Fake Dating AU: 15% Done, The basic idea is that Rosita tries to help out Waverly and her “hopeless” crush on Nicole by fake dating to see how jealous Nicole gets. Of course, nothing is that simple.
Fic Recs
One-Eighty by @sensitive-pigeon, M, Wayhaught, 8/8. This is about Waverly and Nicole on Mars, an AU where they are left alone to take care of the base inbetween missions. It’s great, and I didn’t really read fic this week, but have to recommend in honor of Perserverance.
This next rec is not a fic, but this week I read Daughter of the Moon by @effiecalvin which is part of a great series called Tales of Inthya that is some fantastic wlw fantasy content without homophobia. It’s just as it is. The first book, Princess of Ielflaria is about a bethrothal where the prince dies so the princess needs to marry his sister. Which, the best prompt. Totally recommend if you’re looking for a fun fantasy book series.

So my wonderful and amazing girlfriend, @k0nek0-chan , got me all the books in @effiecalvin’s series. I started the first book last night and I couldn’t put it down. ITS SO GOOD. It ticks like pretty much every box I want in fantasy: dragons, magic, happy ending, lesbians, social acceptance of sexualities and gender. The *only* thing I wanted more of was more grand battle scenes (not that there are none, of course. I just like seeing a little more).
I love Esofi and Adale so much! They’re so fucking cute!
I can’t wait to start the second book this weekend! If you haven’t checked out Effie’s books, you should do it. Right now.
Seriously. S O G O O D!!!

LGBTQ+ Book Rec: The Queen of Ieflaria by Effie Calvin
Tumblr media
"Princess Esofi of Rhodia and Crown Prince Albion of Ieflaria have been betrothed since they were children but have never met. At age seventeen, Esofi's journey to Ieflaria is not for the wedding she always expected but instead to offer condolences on the death of her would-be husband."
Esofi promises to marry the next in line, Albion's sister Adale. But Adale isn't even sure she wants to take the throne as she was never groomed for it like her brother. A set of cousins (a man and a woman) who also stand a chance at the throne throw their hats at Esofi for her to choose to wed.
This world is full of a pantheon of gods, the magic they grant to their followers, and some political intrigue. All with a slow burn romance. And did I mention the dragons?
You should read this book if:
High fantasy is more your thing, but you don't like anything too involved
Like a slow burn romance
Like your leading ladies to have some amazing powers
Want to see a fantasy world with a vast array of LGBTQ+ identifies (same-sex attraction and neutroi gender identity among others)
I also encourage you to visit @effiecalvin here on Tumblr. The promos she made for these books crack me up! And there's a lot of other great posts both related and unrelated to Tales of Inthya. I haven't read any of the other books yet, but as soon as I do I will be adding them to my recs I am sure.

Ya’ll can use the word queer relationship. Like that’s what the word is for; describing people who aren’t gay or straight. So not a lesbian couple, same as a m/f bi couple isn’t a straight coupling.
Or, yanno, since we know how these people identify, we could use the label they use? Which is what the post was doing?

Content Warnings for Dreadnought by April Daniels
This is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while.
Dreadnought by April Daniels is about a closeted trans girl who is in the right place at the wrong time and ends up inheriting the mantle of the most powerful superhero on the planet - powers which incidentally also give her a gender-affirming physical transformation. Danni then must deal with social gender transitioning while also learning what it means and how to be a superhero, and tracking down the killer of the previous Dreadnought.
This is a good book. This is a very good book, and an important and necessary book. It is also, in its own way, every bit as wish-fullfilment-y as the Mangoverse by @shiraglassman or Tales of Inthya by @effiecalvin; it’s just also a whole lot darker and more intense than either of those series. It gets recommended a lot (again, rightly so), but I don’t usually see content warnings for it, and my Anxious, ADHD, MDD ass wouldn’t have minded a few going in, especially since some of them I definitely wouldn’t have expected.
To that end, I’ve compiled a list of Content Warnings for the book; it may be incomplete, as it’s been more than a year since I listened to the audiobook, but I got as many as I could remember. (If you can think of any I’ve missed, especially big ones, please let me know so I can include them!)
For a list of just the warnings, click here; for more context on the warnings, you can scroll down (I’ve included a lot of white space so people can better control their level of spoilers), or you can click this link instead. The lists are not strictly in the same order, since my brain didn’t want to play that way today, but they should include all of the same stuff, just with different levels of detail.
Again, this is a very good book, it was just rough for me to read without knowing everything I was getting into.
