An Actual Thing That Happens in The Count of Monte Cristo
Albert (about the count): I love him.
Later:
The Count (to Albert): You accept my proposal?
Albert: I do.
(Also reassures the count that his mother urged him to gain his esteem.)
And they're off on their honeymoon.

Could you name a few of your all time favorite first cousin couples from fiction?
When I think about it, I don't have a lot of favorite first cousin couples, but I'll try to name a few.
I read the manga "Mariage Recipe" and the couple was cute, so I liked it. Since that's my job, I should probably read more shipcest manga, lol. That's what I'm planning to do, so expect more manga posts soon.
Valentina and Federico from "The five Juanas" think they're half-siblings, but they stay together after finding out they're first cousins.
In the game "Romance club" there's Mehmed who's MC's first cousin and you can romance him. It's a bit (or not a bit) toxic romance, but I love it.
Couples from "Lovebird", "How I live now", "Blue lagoon" are fine, can't say they're my favorite though.
I'm sure I would like Victoria and Albert if I watched "Victoria", even if it's based on real people I still see it as fiction because I don't ship real people lol.
But if we count non-canon too, then I definitely have a favorite first cousin couple, that would be Haruka and Kanata from "Harukana receive". I love them.
Tumblr media
I also ship Camilo and Isabela from "Encanto", but it's not like the ship has a solid foundation lol, I just like the idea.

“Rather than creating a simple thrilling revenge tragedy of “It’s been done to me so I’m doing it back!” I was aiming, in this day and age, to create this kind of work. If a person should be faced with hatred from another, what kind of a relationship will be born from the way they act towards them? How should people face one another? It is these things that I felt I should focus on. In the 23rd act, it is not simply a matter of Albert saving the Count with the purity of his heart. Towards a person who will not face him and who his words will not reach, what kind of action will Albert take? And, conversely, towards a person who is attached to him and he must definitely kill in order to accomplish his revenge, can the Count’s will persist? I wanted to see that serious/true/hardcore collision. What that means is that up until the end, Albert is Albert and Edmond is Edmond. The two of them might spend their whole lives running on parallel lines, but in spite of that, can they continue to interact with each other? Can they continue thinking [of each other]? That’s probably the theme. If that’s where the words “Wait and hope” are to be found, then don’t Franz’s words “Feelings of love and feelings of hate both stem from caring about a person” serve as the light of that faint hope? That’s what I think.”

I would like to suggest other hero x villain ships for your list, lotor x allura from voltron defender of the universe, edmond x albert from gankutsuo count of montecristo, zuko x katara from avatar the last airbender, claudia x callum from dragon prince, rose x jake from american dragon, terra x beast boy teen titans, catwoman x batman, green lantern x star saphire, catra x adora from shera and the princesses of power
Thank you for your suggestions!
I've already listed Catwoman/Batman and Catra/Adora.
I'm going to look closer at Rose/Jake and Green Lantern and Star Saphire.
From what I see Claudia/Callum is not an endgame couple, but currently Claudia is dating some other character, so maybe she'll end up on this list anyway.
Lotor/Allura, Edmond/Albert, Zuko/Katara and Terra + Beast Boy don't have happy endings, so I won't include them.

THE WORTH OF THE WORLD IN GOLD -
"I Like Humanity, but I hate Humans", - Said once, Albert Einstein.
The message says it all. I sat in my living room, hearing the daily bulletin of the day's breaking news. As a routine ( here it goes, please bear with me ! ). Reports on destructing earthquakes, terrorism, train strikes, google. Explosions, logging rain forests, forest fires, hurricanes. Polluting aeroplanes, overweight people, cholesterol, bankruptcies. Redundancies, micro-plastic in fish, pesticides in food, unemployment, depletion of natural resources, currency rates, slave workers, bitcoins, human rights in China, rocket man Mr Kim Jong Un, diabetes type 1 & 2, Cancer, Vladimir Putin, Corona liar Bolsonaro to, President Biden.
The list goes on endlessly, from North, East, West, South - NEWS! There is nothing positive on reports, news larger than life twenty-four-seven; I want to be updated; I am addicted and can't let go!
Pandemics, Panic, overpopulation, pollution and more poison. It all goes in through the ears and gets stuck in our minds. The promotion of a gloomy future — A ticking time bomb.
I want to climb Mount Everest alone, in the footsteps of Sir. Edmond Hillary, and hide there. I reflect on "We didn't start the fire" by Billy Joel long ago.
The World was safe and intact while the Chinese dragon slept before Globalisation. There was no internet, a half-bitten apple, Facebook friends, amazing Amazon (not the jungle or the river!), Google or Ali Baba (no, not the one with the 40 thieves!), and a time when people read books in the Metro!
It was an iconic song. Billy had a vision; I saw many rocking to the beat without analysing the message! All the while, the fires were spreading steadily, fueled by corruption and greed. I see the fire spreading, and the glaciers are melting out of control. My hands are tied; big brother is watching, and no one will throw the first stone! We are sitting on a train with one-way tickets, about to enter a dark hole!
Mahatma Gandhi, one of the most outstanding men ever, was killed. Martin Luther King, John F. Kennedy, Marcus Garvy, Malcolm X, and John Lennon were silenced! Why must they die so young? If those lived to face their natural deaths like everyone else, Would this World be better than it is today?
We, the masters of the universe, will fabricate news because our people lack compassion and purity. We cannot calculate the value of the Earth in monetary terms; the Earth that gives life effaces it in time as the ever-evolving evolution transfers us closer to our destiny.
I could epitomise, and it feels like I am reliving the work of Stephen King, but think positive and hope for a miracle; everything will be fine in our lifetime!
The crying Earth & other stories

Jean Baptiste Perrin
Tumblr media
In 1895, Perrin showed that cathode rays were of negative electric charge in nature. He determined Avogadro's number (now known as the Avogadro constant) by several methods. He explained solar energy as due to the thermonuclear reactions of hydrogen.
After Albert Einstein published (1905) his theoretical explanation of Brownian motion in terms of atoms, Perrin did the experimental work to test and verify Einstein's predictions, thereby settling the century-long dispute about John Dalton's atomic theory. Carl Benedicks argued Perrin should receive the Nobel Prize in Physics; Perrin received the award in 1926 for this and other work on the discontinuous structure of matter, which put a definite end to the long struggle regarding the question of the physical reality of molecules.
Perrin was the author of a number of books and dissertations. Most notable of his publications were: "Rayons cathodiques et rayons X"; "Les Principes"; "Electrisation de contact"; "Réalité moléculaire"; "Matière et Lumière"; "Lumière et Reaction chimique".
Perrin was also the recipient of numerous prestigious awards including the Joule Prize of the Royal Society in 1896 and the La Caze Prize of the French Academy of Sciences. He was twice appointed a member of the Solvay Committee at Brussels in 1911 and in 1921. He also held memberships with the Royal Society of London and with the Academies of Sciences of Belgium, Sweden, Turin, Prague, Romania and China. He became a Commander of the Legion of Honour in 1926 and was made Commander of the Order of Léopold (Belgium).
In 1919, Perrin proposed that nuclear reactions can provide the source of energy in stars. He realized that the mass of a helium atom is less than that of four atoms of hydrogen, and that the mass-energy equivalence of Einstein implies that the nuclear fusion (4 H → He) could liberate sufficient energy to make stars shine for billions of years. A similar theory was first proposed by American chemist William Draper Harkins in 1915. It remained for Hans Bethe and Carl Friedrich von Weizsäcker to determine the detailed mechanism of stellar nucleosynthesisduring the 1930s.
In 1927, he founded the Institut de Biologie Physico-Chimique together with chemist André Job and physiologist André Mayer. Funding was provided by Edmond James de Rothschild. In 1937, Perrin established the Palais de la Découverte, a science museum in Paris.
Perrin is considered the founding father of the National Centre for Scientific Research (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS)). Following a petition by Perrin signed by over 80 scientists, among them eight Nobel Prize laureates, the French education minister set up the Conseil Supérieur de la Recherche Scientifique (French National Research Council) in April 1933. In 1936, Perrin, now an undersecretary for research, founded the Service Central de la Recherche Scientifique (French Central Agency for Scientific Research). Both institutions were merged under the CNRS umbrella on October 19, 1939.
His notable students include Pierre Victor Auger. Jean Perrin was the father of Francis Perrin, also a physicist.

My part of an art trade I made on deviantArt with AoiBara1992 (Has really cool art, you should follow them if you like Gankutsuou, Death Parade, Psycho-Pass or Bungou Stray Dogs too). They asked me to draw Albert and Edmond from Gankutsuou.
This one is their part of the art trade. I asked for a crossover pic of Kiba from Wolf’s Rain and Atsushi Nakajima from Bungou Stray Dogs.

The Count of Monte Cristo 2002
I've been curious about this film for a while bc of the things I've read about it, and knew I had to watch it. So now I finally did. My impression is exactly what I expected it would be: good film, bad adaptation.
Bc I had already known it was not faithful to the book (and bc I knew it did something very stupid, as I inadvertently stumbled upon a spoiler), I allowed myself to enjoy watching it. Had I not known all of this beforehand, I would have liked it much less. Still, I watched it more out of curiosity than anything, and I can't say I will ever rate it as a favourite. In many ways, though, it was a fun movie. (Spoilers below.)
It's the first adaptation I've watched, but as I understand from posts by other users here, it's not the only one that focuses on Fernand as the main antagonist. Which he, of course, isn't, but The Powers That Be, as a mutual recently told me, were Edmond x Mercedes shippers. They even went further with this and made Albert (played by very babyfaced Henry Cavill) Edmond's son. This is the stupid thing I mentioned above the cut. It's stupid, what else can I say.
Also, Fernand and Edmond are initially friends, best friends even, which I understand other adaptations also do. For some reason, filmmakers think the story is more powerful when the one who betrays you is a friend. Fernand was already an aristocrat in this, he was the son of Count Mondego (not Morcerf), and he and Edmond and Mercedes are childhood friends, but the movie never explains how a son of a count made friends with people who were so many steps below him in class. Fernand also ends up having affairs with many women and getting into debt by gambling, a fact Edmond uses to take him down.
In this film, Edmond can't read. Which *scratches head*. I'm pretty sure this was not in the book, right? He was (well, almost) made a captain, how would he be able to captain a ship without being able to read maps and charts? (And this makes his friendship with nobility Fernand even more unlikely--surely a friend would help him learn to read?) It's abbe Faria who teaches him to read in prison. Abbe Faria was played by Richard Harris and was a definite highlight of the film.
Mercedes and Edmond share time together before Edmond is framed (they have sex which results in Albert) and she ties a thread she tore off her dress around her finger, symbolising an engagement ring. She still has this thread around her finger when they are reconciled 16 years later (that's the gap between Edmond being thrown to Chateau D'If and the beginning of his revenge in this version). How did a piece of thread last this long???
Understandably, many characters are cut out, the Maximilian and Valentine romance is non existent, so is Eugenie, there's no Caderousse or Benedetto. Danglars has minimal screentime, even though he's the one that orchestrates the whole setup. The importance of Morrel in Edmond's life is lessened, also his name is misspelled (it has two Ls).
I liked what they did with Vampa and Jacopo. They combined Vampa into both a smuggler and a bandit, thus he is the one who takes on Edmond after his escape and also arranges Albert's kidnapping in Rome. He's also really funny. Jacopo's role is much bigger than in the book, he essentially becomes Edmond's bestie. They find the treasure together and in one scene, Jacopo tries to get Edmond to "choose love". As fun as it was to watch that, it's not the Edmond from the book, who is more of a loner. I mean there's this line (this is before he finds the treasure):
Dantès, cast from solitude into the world, frequently experienced an imperious desire for solitude; and what solitude is more complete, or more poetical, than that of a ship floating in isolation on the sea during the obscurity of the night, in the silence of immensity, and under the eye of Heaven?
I think you can conclude that the screenwriter liked his male friendships.
I expected more of Albert bc of the many gifs I've seen posted here. He's not given any time to deal with the fact that the man whom he thought of as father is not his father. At the end they all visit Chateau D'If, Edmond finds peace and they walk away together as one happy family (Jacopo included). Very Hollywood Disney ending, I think.
So I get why people like this film, but as an adaptation of a book it doesn't really deliver. I suppose it can work as an AU.
