Seen some people talking about Lovejoy and Wilbur Soot’s music and feeling very upset about letting go of those songs since they brought a lot of comfort and joy.
I’m not gonna tell you what you should and shouldn’t do. I think it’s ultimately up to you to decide if you want to continue listening to Wilbur’s music or not. What I am gonna do is list some alternative artists that I either think have similar vibes or I know Wilbur / Lovejoy had cited as inspirations so you guys can find some new tunes without stepping too far out of you comfort zone.
(Also feel free to tag on and add your own suggestions as well, the more the merrier)
Lovejoy
Arctic Monkeys — when Wilbur started the band he claimed he wanted to be like the Arctic Monkeys one day. I’ve also described a lot of their later music as being very similar to Arctic Monkeys, so if you like Wake Up and It’s over and Normal People Things then you’d love them
Los Campansino’s — Wilbur has stated before that this is his favourite band so.. very likely big inspiration for his music. Lovejoy did a cover of Knee Deep at ATP, their version is a bit more chill than the original. I’m a big Los Campansino’s fan honestly, but for stuff Lovejoy related I’ve say the albums “Sick Scenes” and “Romance Is Boring” would have the most appeal.
Wet Leg — just a good band that I think has a similar vibe, especially with themes and funky tunes. Also I’ve seen Wilbur list them in his personal playlists before so he enjoys them as well
Good Kid — not a personal favourite of mine, but their songs have similar vibes and they toured with Lovejoy as well so Lovejoy enjoy their music.
James Marriot — (editing Kaz here.. not gonna change the phrasing of this part but I’ve been told James Marriott has unfollowed Wilbur on Twitter) friend of Wilbur’s (do with that information as you will) excellent musician and would heartily recommend his music if you haven’t listened already. Also worked very closely with the band before, especially in the early days so I wouldn’t doubt they’ve influenced each others music quite a bit
MSR and YCGMA
100gecs and other hyperpop artists — admittedly not a genre I listen to a lot, but if you liked Dropshipped Cat Shirt, especially the ending, then you’ll vibe with this genre a lot.
Jack Stauber — Wilbur’s been a longtime fan of his music, it’s a bit weird and silly on a surface level but nice and miserable as well. If you like MSR I’d recommend.
Crywank — helped Wilbur with producing MSR, plus I think Wilbur took some heavy inspiration from them as well. If you like miserable music you’ll love Crywank. (Also Lovejoy did a cover of privately owned, so if you liked that go check out the original)
More Los Campansino’s — ok.. I’m repeating bands now, but I’m recommending different albums this time! “We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed” “Hello Sadness” and “No Blues”
Peach Pit — again, not a favourite of mine but they have nice chill vibes and the songs I’ve listened to are just as miserable as these albums.
Beabadoobee — once again, not someone I listen to a lot, but definitely got the same chill acoustic music as YCGMA especially, Lovejoy had done a cover of The Perfect Pair so if you liked that, and you like these albums you’d like beabadoobee.
E-girl Trilogy / comedy music
Bo Burnham — another favourite artist of Wilbur’s, someone else he’s cited as an inspiration and top tier comedy tunes! If you like Wilbur’s sadder music as well you’d definitely enjoy Inside. Otherwise his older music is great and very fun!
Lemon Demon — probably not an inspiration for Wilbur’s comedy music, but he’s definitely listened to it, it’s very fun and silly, also Ranboo highly recommends (as do I)
Other recommendations
Modern Baseball — found this band through Wilbur’s recommendations, they’re very fun and cool. Very Midwest emo, a genre that I think inspired MSR.
The Front Bottoms.. but with a warning — so I’m not super familiar with the story, but from memory a former member abused a fan, they aren’t apart of the band anymore but the current members handled the situation very poorly. This was another favourite band of Wilbur’s and I get why, very emotional and angsty. I find their lyrics hit a bit harder than Modern Baseball’s but they make very similar music.
AJJ — kinda similar to Crywank, another band I found through Wilbur’s recommendation.
Radiohead / the smiths / the cure / the strokes / just 70’s and 80’s alt rock bands — Wilbur definitely enjoys this music and took inspiration here and they’re all very cool and fun. I’m not super familiar with these bands but I know a lot from this time have good old controversies so be mindful of that, but yeahhh good music!
I don’t know how but the found me — alt/indie rock band with very fun tunes! Sits alongside Wilbur’s comedy music and Lovejoy in my playlists a lot of the times so.. if you like those two you’d probably like this band :) also Dallon Weekes deserves all the love in the world, all his former bandmates (Brendon Urie and Ryan Seaman) keep fucking him over.
Cavetown — not sadboy acoustic like YCGMA but very chill and good acoustic tunes nonetheless. Also a bit similar to Beabadoobee so if you like that you’ll like this :) oh also, i know a lot of people liked Lovejoy cos they gave off a lot of aromantic vibes, Cavetown is openly Aro / Ace so.. lots of aro vibes in his music :D
Yotam Perel — Wilbur used his music in the background of his streams, typically the album "Nice Snakes" but he used "A Long List of Short Songs" as well. It's great background music honestly, some songs have entered my top 100 playlists on spotify, but yeah, if you liked the funky tunes in the back of the geoguessr streams, this is what he played

Pairing : simpbur x fem!reader
Summary : a confession of love is interrupted by an adorable kid, but interrupted doesn't mean ruined.
Warnings : quite long, also flashbacks of childhood, soft simpbur.
Simp had been building up the courage to open up to you about his feeling for you, being childhood friends didn't help with him not wanting to ruin your friendship. So recently after you comforted him when he had an anxiety attack, he knew he couldn't keep living without being able to call you his. He had dreamed it for years while writing his songs that recently had started to sound like the cries of a man, desperate to touch the lips of someone who he viewed as a deity.
One day after getting back from work he went to his shitty dorm room and changed into the nicest clothes he had, a dark blue sweater you gifted him on his birthday and black jeans with matching sneakers. He texted you asking you to meet him on the park were you two first met when you two were children. It was a special place for him and hoped that it was also the same to you, he always went there if you were too busy when he wanted to spend time together. He still remembers your meeting...
He was a short thin boy who wanted nothing but to hide in his room under his bed and read the new book his dad bought for him, but his dad forced him to go out and play so he could finally make some friends. He had always been shy so he had a hard time socializing from a young age, and as he was just sulking in he catched the sight of a pretty person who was his same age.
Their eyes were full of passion unlike his dull ones, they had a bright smile on their face unlike the frown he had and they seemed to be quite joyful, whilst he had a furrowed brow showing his discomfort at being in a place he didn't wish to be in. What surprised was how they immediately approached him with a now worried gaze, from that day on you two were inseparable.
It seemed like your mission to make him the happiest boy now a man worked, he couldn't help but be the person who had the biggest smile in the place when he was with you. You were to him the personification of serotonin I'm his life and it was addictive to him, as you two grew up he realised how his platonic yet obsessive gaze upon you turned into a romantic one. Now thinking of you made his heart beat faster and his pale cheeks would turn red.
After you responded with a "see you there <3" he smiled brightly and quickly headed over to the destination, when he arrived he sat down on a park bench that was your favourite colour c/n. He was doing it again, feeling attached to things he knew about you like favourite colours, the fact that he wore the clothes you gave him and that while waiting for you he was listening to your favourite song. All of those things made him sigh hoping you'll accept his confession, he'd be destroyed if not but he wouldn't stop being your friend. It'd just hurt more to lose you completely.
The sounds of calm and familiar footsteps made him leave his daydreams for a bit, there you were in all your glory wearing casual but very nice clothes. You always knew how to look good without even trying while he still looked like a mess, even after he spent a long time trying to look better than ever for this day. You greeted him with a smile just like the day you two met, it still was a bright as ever having that same vibe that yelled youth at anyone who was lucky enough to receive it. The brunette approached you and wrapped his arms around you like he always did when he saw you, telling you how he was glad you could come to see him.
You told him how you'd always do your best to spend time with him as much as possible, he simply blushed and looked away shyly for a bit trying to gain back confidence. He then looked you in the eyes and said he had to tell you something important, taking a deep breath he opened his mouth to talk but before any words could come out, the sound of a young child's voice sounded in the background. You two looked over in shock seeing a child who looked like a mix of the two of you running happily towards you two, they were adorable to say the least almost like a little angel who had bur's hair, your eye colour, your smile and his British accent.
“Mama, papa” the young child blurted out at you both and they hugged Bur's legs with their tiny arms, the brunette blushed imagining how it would be to have kids with you one day. You simply let out a small laugh when seeing the scene unfold, the child giggled cutely and made grabby hands towards you so you'd pick them up. You complied and they cuddled onto you while you simply smiled, you looked over at bur with a soft smile and noticed his heart eyes towards you.
Soon a woman and a man named quickly saying their child was the one on your arms and how they always seemed to run off to play, you gave them their child back and said bye to the kid with tenderness in your voice. You then looked over simp who seemed to still be quite charmed by how motherly you were with the kid, you waved your hand in front of his face to make him react. He blushed and said he was sorry for acting so weird and you simply responded "don't worry man, now what did you want to tell me?".

A collection of headcanons about the hard parts of living with Simpbur. Because as much as I adore him it would be difficult sometimes.
Starting off small it would be hell getting the apartment to yourself. Simpbur is definitely more of a homebody, so getting him to go out without you would be hard.
Expect some of your clothes to go missing.
It wouldn't be obvious at first, a shirt you haven't worn in forever, a coat you traded for something a bit warmer.
You would defiantly have to check him on it as he got bolder.
He would wait up for you, and would defiantly spam call you if you weren't in by the time you said you would be.
Wants to know everything your doing, and who you are with.
God forbid you forget to tell this man you are going out
He honestly jumps at the idea of tagging along with you even if you're going out with friends
It would take him a long time to get used to your friend group. You would be stuck in small talk hell for months.
If you say you like something he goes out of his way to make sure you have it
it's cute,, at first
then it gets to be a bit much. Because everything this man does for you, he does in excess.
I think the most annoying thing is how quick he is to agree with you.
Sometimes it's hard to tell if he actually likes an idea or just likes how happy it makes you.
I may post more of these at some point because I have thought about this man more than I should have.

In light of Your New Boyfriend officially becoming a Gold record (!!!) I want to take this opportunity to talk about it’s neglected middle sibling Internet Ruined Me.
I feel like the reason that it is the least played and least liked of all of the e-girl trilogy is that it hits too close to home and people don’t really like that.
While I’m in Love with an E-girl and Your New Boyfriend are both cut and dry satirical comedic songs (emphasis on comedy), Internet Ruined Me is far more sincere.
Each of the three songs examine and deconstruct the incel mindset, however Internet Ruined Me actually takes the incel seriously and is also empathetic and understanding as to how someone might come to think and behave that way. It’s a reminder of how dangerous and influential the internet can be and how we’ve become both reliant and borderline addicted/obsessed with it. It is a warning about how destructive the internet bubbles we create can be to one’s own sense of self.
Where I’m in Love with an E-girl and Your New Boyfriend couch the incel’s destructive tendencies in light jokes and boppy hooks, Internet Ruined Me holds up a mirror and asks the listener how different the incel is from themselves.
And that’s why it’s my favourite.
