Better End

I wasn’t happy leaving things the way they were in canon. To be honest, most of the end streams were amazing, with just the last bit making things feel a bit awful. I needed to get my ideas and feelings out into the world and despite my how I feel about the finale or the CCs, I needed these characters to have a happy end. I hope other people enjoy this as well.

Edit: also in this version, Jack didn’t mess with the nuke, so it didn’t take out everyone else too. This hit just the prison.

What's often interesting to me, is Dream spells it out in the finale and people often still don't get it, so I thought it'd be interesting to see what he was actually referencing here. To see where it all started.

[24:27] Tommy: “That first war, me and Tubbo versus you–how it should have ended–why’d you take it?” Dream: “Tommy, you ambushed me and killed me. You stole all my shit! You tried ambushing me in a little cave–you don’t remember that? I feel like you just–your memory is just–gone.”

So here is the ambush Dream is talking about, where Sapnap and Tommy basically decide to just kill Dream and then kept all of his shit. [Death 1]

He gets killed again when he tries to take back his stuff. [Death 2]

Tommy kills him for fun right after he respawns with nothing. [Death 3]

Then after Dream gets his stuff back (via our boy Punz) and he takes the discs to get Tommy to stop, he gives Tommy back his items. But unsatisfied, Tommy goes after Dream, gets one of his discs back and hides it in the little cave. Dream tries to find it, while Sapnap and Tommy try to stop him. They are unsuccessful until, Tubbo brings them axes and they sneak up and corner Dream in the little cave, ambushing and killing him. Once again, taking all of his shit, (including, yes, the other disc.) [Death 4]

[27:58] Tommy: “Think about that, we could’ve been friends but no because you have to figure out the reason you have to get–” Dream: “Yeah we could’ve but you–you ruined the chance of that long ago. It was you.” Tommy: “I ruined it?” Dream: “You ruined it!”

And I don’t think it’s unfair for Dream to say that in the finale, because for Dream it’s this stream early on, these moments that started it all. It’s these instances of of Dream getting murdered and robbed and made fun of over and over. Him, trying to not just make peace for everyone, but also reclaim respect and peace for himself. It’s Tommy chasing after Dream when he has nothing to kill him and rub it in his face. It’s Dream, even after all of that, giving back their items. It’s these instances of violence taken too far to the point they clearly pissed Dream off and didn’t care or follow his very simple request of just giving an apology and his belongings back that shape my distaste for Tommy and sympathy for Dream. It’s these moments that I feel like are gone from Tommy’s and our memory that highlight a different story.

I’m having many thoughts about the DSMP finale.

I don’t think anything like DSMP will ever happen again, if I’m being perfectly honest. Nothing is ever going to come close to just how MASSIVE it was, and how momentous it’s all felt. Like over 100k people were tuning in to watch MCRP lore at some points, which is INSANE. And like the insane amount of love put into it by (most of) the people on it, and the fans. The fanart, fansongs, recreations of the server, animatics, everything really! Stuff like Sad-Ist’s animations, Derivakat’s songs based off the characters and events, and like!!! So much more!!!! And the work of the CCs!!!!! Stuff like Quackity’s Las Nevadas streams or BadBoyHalo’s Eggpire streams with their INSANELY high quality productions, with the former even having it’s own music??? That’s INSANE!!

And like, despite EVERYTHING. The Dream situatuon, the slow and uneventful downfall of the server, the Nuke ending. I still LOVE this server, and don’t see myself leaving it’s fandom ANYTIME soon. and I’ll probably love it for the rest of my life. It’s literally changed my life for the better. Introduced me to so many lovely people I never would’ve seen otherwise, made me improve my writing and my art, and literally got me through SO MANY tough times in my life. And it introduced me to so many content creators I never would’ve gotten into in the first place. It’s done so much for me, and has done so much for so many other people, and I don’t think that can be overlooked, because I doubt something like that is ever going to happen again.

Farewell, DSMP. Your Unfinished Symphony finally draws to a close.

future citizen of a place that used to be called the 'dream smp' watching a film based on the true events of the l'manberg revolution with actors depicting key players. at the end of the film as the camera pans to the sunset the text appears that tells you what happened to the real people after the events of the film and it says the deputy and his best friend were vaporised by a nuclear explosion at the age of 18. the best friend made the nukes.

TommyInnit’s Dream SMP Finale Summary

It was Hannah and Bad’s idea

This was Tommy’s splash text

This was someone’s first dsmp stream in Tommy’s chat

He started farming as soon as he logged on, like always

Tubbo got in a boat and span around again. Tommy used autotune to sing ‘you spin me right round’

Tubbo nearly shot Shroud

Tommy and Tubbo blew up the Hotel which also resulted in McPuffy’s getting blown up and Puffy was shook

Tommy set shroud free

I skipped over most to the stuff with Dream but Tommy was given op and he spawned ghasts on tubbo and Sam

He went to Techno’s house and found a Cat disc in one of his chests. This broke me.

Tommy spoke about how logsted felt really grungey and different to the rest of the server because of how there was nothing there

George nearly slept through it

In True dsmp Fashion getting the end portal to work was scuffed

Callahan kept spawning withers in The End

Tubbo got the final hit on the ender dragon

Tommy and Tubbo met in vc2 at the bench and listened to music

Tommy has an irl ‘your tubbo’ compass

Exile was one of his favourite arcs

His favourite quote is ‘I have The Blade’

His only question for us is if we have ever sat and chatted to our friends about it

This server has been my hyperfixation since the beginning of 2021. Unfortunately I joined ag the end of the ‘golden age’ as it were. But I’ve made hopefully lifelong friends through this stupid block roleplay, and the characters and story mean the world for me and will forever. I know this fandom is going to get smaller now. I know people will move on. But I think I’ll be here for a few more years.

Dream SMP, thank you for helping me fall in love with stories again. Thank you for helping me grow in my own writing and in my artwork. Thank you for being here when I needed you, thank you for getting me through these last few years. Thank you for giving me characters I could love and relate to, who feel more real than anything else. And thank you for introducing me to creators I will forever love.

I’m so glad I was here.

Something about how the DSMP changed so many people. Music was made. Art was drawn. Book—series even—were written. Calls over discord stretched on for hours, fans and creators alike rambling until the morning just about the latest stream someone did. All of that over one server full of people who were just creating things as they went; as much for us as for them.

There are countless rooms out there with walls full of paintings or posters of the server. Notebooks jotted down with ideas for a story or things they loved the most about streams that have no meaning at first glance. Merch sitting in closets and plushies tossed on beds, all kinds of emotions woven into the cloth.

Tommy. Techno. Phil. Quackity. Wilbur. Eret. Tubbo. Niki. Ranboo. And so many other people. They've shaped countless people into who they are now with their content and that server, myself included. And I can't thank them enough for it.

Thank you DSMP. This symphony had finally come to a close
