That's exactly what i was worried about when i heard they planned on doing secret invasion after they had previously established the Skrulls as refugees.

Yeah, trying to do Secret Invasion when the Skrulls have already been set up as a refugee crisis makes for a very hard tightrope to walk. It's a very perilous framework for telling a story. And so far, the show has not managed to handle this at all with the level of care and sensitivity that's needed of it.

Episode 2 even introduces us to a better idea of what they could have done instead. Here there be more Secret Invasion spoilers.

When explaining that all the Skrulls are now living on Earth, Talos makes an offhand remark about "Emperor Drogge's colony". We don't know what the deal with Drogge's colony is, just that none of their Skrulls came to Earth when the rest answered the call.

It's also been implied by a couple Skrull characters that the Skrulls aren't actually blameless in their conflict with the Kree. One Skrull even suggested that Skrull warmongering is to blame for their own persecution and genocide which is. Uh. Pretty yikes.

But at the very least, these two things together creates this idea. The idea that there are militant Skrulls, and that not every Skrull is part of our refugee society.

That could have been the premise, right then and there. The villains could have been a militant faction of Skrulls from outer space, unrelated to our refugees. The show could have held conversations about the tendency to treat ethnic groups as monolithic, especially in tarring a group of people with a single brush in times of conflict. Characters turning on our refugee Skrulls because we're being invaded by enemy space Skrulls.

Anyone who lived through 9/11 remembers how easily "We are in conflict with Al Qaeda and the Taliban" became "We are at war with Muslims" in the eyes of Americans.

Instead, we've made the refugees themselves into the aggressors. Talos is out there trying to mediate between the refugees who want to kill everyone and take Earth, and Fury whose behavior towards the refugees and other human characters alike is becoming increasingly questionable and making him difficult to root for as a protagonist.

*SPOILERS*

So, Fury's been suspected of the attack? Well, that's a bummer.

Colored cars on trains were a thing in the 1950s. So, Fury's gotta be in his 70s I think. So when he made his MCU debut (Iron Man post-credit scene), he had to be in his 50s.

Okay, so, you mean to tell me that a million Skrulls were living on Earth?! And this all happened after Fury left, so anyone we've seen after Endgame could've been a Skrull. And, Emperor Drogge? It was Emperor Dorrek in the comics. Oh wait, the director was told not to bother with the source material this show is based on. 😒

I mean.....Fury ain't wrong about humans. We'd be fighting each other for many things, which sucks. Which is so baffling to me why many aliens in the MCU find Earth so fascinating. Like the High Evolutionary for example. What makes them think Earth is so amazing? However, Earth was totally find with letting the rest of the Asgardians stay in Norway when their home was destroyed. What makes the Skrulls any different? No hero/god to vouch for them?

Welp, those two are going on a break. Yeah, I don't know who I should side more in this argument. But, maybe they'll make up in the next episode or two.

I can but also can NOT believe it's taken this long to think about Sarn's next steps after Nos-Va: she knows of Selah's race, and at this point in galactic history the Paragons are prevalent - while Selah abd her team may not have been on assignment from the Paragons, she has spoken of them, and if there's any force in the greater galaxy that would maybe do something pro bono, it's them. However, Sarn talking so much about the Paragons in Porapor is one good way to get bad attention (not that you can't talk about them, but Sarn is wanting to petition them), so this could be one reason why Aii takes an interest in our trio ~ Prince Jumë needing repairs is potentially a good excuse, but that seems like it'd lean more I to a direct business venture with the wealthy Bu'nabi. Also, Gurnn is a Paragon, and he's in Porapor operating a spy ring of sorts. Why? His brother, the pirate and Paragon enemy numero uno, Drogg. Drogg runs one of the most feared crews in the galaxy, and occasionally calls Porapor home, the thing is they just need to actually catch him - it's not as though he flies that massive juggernaut of his into the skyscape. Anyway, Gurnn is here, fronting as a detective in a slummier part of town, how does he get involved eventually?

Another idea: of course everyone has to grow into friendship, but initially Sarn and Fe'ee'nant could have some slight animosity; both want to go home, both see their own needs as top priority, and Yilven is along for the ride - he at least could easily be open to an adventure, or something more crass this early in the game. Also, maybe Fe'ee'nant is a little homophobic at first? Or at least not so open to the idea of homosexual relationships? This would change after the two actually become friends - probably no romance, though. In this situation, Yilven would be the "I'm fine with women loving women, the more the merrier!" type.

The best part of drawing for a new property is being able to create the characters! The first set of kids from Scare School had a brief description of what was wanted (clothing based on old fashioned Victorian kids clothes) but even then their appearance changed between conception and the finished comic. (also, the very first version of the Drogg! Looks too cute to be evil, huh?)
