Does Juno Steel believe in ghosts? Sure. Just not the white-sheet wailing kind. But the half-seen faces from the past who whisper in the dark about promises you never kept, things you'll never know, times dead and going, going, gone…
Mick's house in @thepenumbrapodcast's Haunting of the Terrible Trio, in the style of @kayleerowena's gorgeous haunted house pieces!
[ID: a digital drawing of dollhouse manor, mick mercury's floating mansion. it's a pink mansion that resembles a victorian dollhouse, floating in front of a red and gold sky. there are three ghosts emerging from its windows, each representing a different member of the oldtown trio. END ID]

also sasha still not recognising the work juno put into himself and how much he grew and changed and how she still thought of hima s the depressed suicidal detective only wanting to go out in a blaze of glory
and the narrative parallel of her being the self-sacrificing one willing to die because she couldn't meet her own expectations and just wanting to do something
she just reminded me so much of early seasons juno in this ep and i loved these parallels

Okay okay wait... I think I know what happened to Nureyev during What Lies Beyond. Not joking.
I’ve been relistening to this episode for a while, trying to figure out where the heck he went. He obviously didn’t escape on the Ruby 7 and we know since Tools of Rust that their other car was wrecked beyond use. So he HAD to still be on the Carte Blanche during the interrogations in part two. So where the heck did he go?
For a while, I’ve just been assuming that he hid in the walls somewhere, like Juno and Dark Matters also assume. But that doesn’t make any sense. We know tech exists that can let you scan for people in a single location (see: Stone Unturned). Dark Matters could have just scanned for some dude hiding in a wall somewhere, but they didn’t find him.
But then, in What Lies Beyond part two, I found the answer. And it hit me like a punch to the gut...
Buddy says she saw a Dark Matters agent putting on Agent G’s uniform after their death.
We all assumed that detail was just there to make Sasha’s Dark Matters sound messy, but what if it’s actually a Nureyev clue? What if that was Nureyev?! We know he has a knack for hiding in plain sight! And it’s not like it’s out of the realm of possibility for him, as he essentially did the same thing on New Kinshasa in Angel of Brahma, both when he and Mag took the guard uniforms AND when he pretended to be a corpse on the floor.
Hiding in plain sight. Just like Vespa hiding in the wall in Shadows on the Ship.
THAT’S where he went.
THAT’S why Dark Matters didn’t find him on the Carte Blanche.
And that’s also why Nureyev knew when AND how to rescue the crew from prison in Clean Break. He showed up there WITH DARK MATTERS.
He’s infiltrated them before. He could do it again.
...long story short, Kabert made a mistake by giving us another week to ruminate on the finale. I’m going conspiracy crazy over here.

Someone should write an analysis of the parallels between Juno and Sasha. Their need to prove themselves, their obsession with Doing the Right Thing, the loss of a sibling that they blame themselves for, etc. Would be really interesting if someone analyzed their characters!

whatever you do, don’t think of Mick Mercury seeing his best friend on every streaming channel promoting a public execution.
whatever you do, don’t think of Mick Mercury watching said best friend unmask his other best friend in the high-security prison you helped him infiltrate.
don’t think of Mick Mercury seeing Juno Steel’s bruised face, seeing his heartbreak as a member of his family is being put to death, seeing his righteous and defensive fury.
don’t think of Mick Mercury noticing how Sasha Wire - no, Director W - looks at Juno…with nothing but cold calculation.
don’t think of Mick Mercury (soft, nostalgic, Mick who always sees the best in people and always holds out hope) remembering how they promised to always have each other’s backs.
don’t think of Mick Mercury’s heart splitting in two.
(@thepenumbrapodcast this episode was very good)
