So fucked up that Cyberpunk makes such lovable characters but gives me so few dialogue options to talk to them about

Oh boy I can’t sleep so here’s some Cyberpunk Relationship Headcanons!
Kerry x Male!V
-Kerry genuinely sung the ‘I love you, bitch. I’ll never stop loving you, bitch’ song to V on their three month anniversary, complete with the guitar. V had no idea what to say, and didn’t understand the reference.
-Kerry sleeps starfish style and with his mouth open. V has had to close his mouth because he drools in the night.
-Kerry swore he would never have an animal in his mansion before Nibbles came to be. After he met nibbles, Kerry bought him a throne style cat bed.
-Kerry doesn’t understand that not every kiss has to be with tongue. V has genuinely bitten his tongue because he just wanted a quick smooch before a gig.
Panam x Male! V
-Panam is allergic to pollen, but due to being in the badlands, she never knew until V brought her organic flowers. She sneezed for a week straight before realizing.
-V and Panam like racing, but V is terrible at driving. He once accidentally crashed her car into a pile of cacti.
-V and Saul sometimes have family dinner together, and Saul asks really personal questions about the relationship every time. (Example: ‘sooo…have you two screwed yet?’)
-when V can’t sleep, Panam takes him out to look at the stars. The first time she did, he cried, since he’d never seen them before due to the city lights.
….”if we don’t fix this chip thing, V, I’ll be looking up at those. You’ll be the prettiest star out there.”
Judy x Fem! V
-Judy loves telling V about her ocean and fish hyperfixation. Sometimes, she wishes she could afford to go to a real aquarium. V swears if she gets the money, she’ll take her on a date there.
-Judy and V have made braindances before, all to be kept in Judy’s “private folder.”
-V doesn’t understand why Judy is so emotional sometimes, but she’ll awkwardly hug her or kiss her when she starts crying.
-Judy’s favorite movie to watch with V is Ponyo. Judy knows the song by heart and sings it during the credits.
River x Fem! V
-Both River and V really want the other to quit their jobs, so sometimes they jokingly leave resignation papers on each other’s desks. V doesn’t really have a ‘boss,’ so River just leaves a sticky note that says “quit.”
-River really likes iguanas, so when V hatched hers, he cuddled with it more than her for a week straight. V had to deal with it being in between them in bed.
-Joss and V talk a lot, to the point where V will show up at his house just to completely ignore him and talk to his sister. River just ends up standing behind them awkwardly.
-River does the ‘broke boyfriend stance’ every time they’re in a store. Johnny makes fun of him for it.
-River and V are really cuddly, to the point River can’t fall asleep correctly without her beside them.
Bonus!!!! Johnny x GN! V
-Johnny has tried to convince V to kiss the mirror to see if it feels like an actual kiss. (It doesn’t.)
-V has a habit of telling Johnny ‘I love you’ out loud. They said it in front of Hanako right before the relic malfunction, and Hanako looked at them and said
“Uhm…thank…you…?”
-V eventually figures out how to get Johnny a new body and repair the chip. (In my heart I’m delusional.) Once they did, they didn’t let go of each other for weeks. They had the worst honeymoon phase.
-Johnny excessively jokes about soul killer. V does not find it amusing.
Bonus Bonus!!!! Takemura x GN! V
-Takemura cooks most of their meals after V revealed they mainly eat frozen tv dinners instead of real food. He’s Also really insistent that they drink water and shower.
-Takemura once brutally cried after seeing the full effects of the Relic Malfunctions, comparing it to when his Arasaka implants got revoked.
-Takemura didn’t know how to hug someone, so he accidentally nearly choked V.
-he also didn’t know how to kiss, so he just…opened his mouth.
-Takemura doesn’t understand sarcasm, so he takes whatever V says to its fullest meaning.

a lot of ppl on this app and others where there’s a cyberpunk fanbase have this idea that kerry ‘moves on too fast’ or ‘doesn’t care about v’
hi i’m here to prove you wrong, and tell you that kerry is the only person v can actually stay with if he survives.
something about kerry to understand is he’s always been repressive when it came to how he expressed himself. something else to understand is that kerry loved v more than he had ever loved anyone or anything else, and that’s because of what v did for him.
a lot of people say that it was ‘out of character’ or ‘disappointing’ the way kerry reacts in the tower ending, but in reality it is the most consistent one of all the romance options. throughout the game, kerry is shown to still deal with the issues johnny left behind. he still struggles with the inability to move on, to cope, to form healthy attachments or even live happily. but because of v, kerry is able to reach a level of contentment. kerry says to v, in the sun ending, when he asks kerry if he ever thinks about johnny;
‘i’ve got someone more important to fill that hole with now.’
kerry was incomplete, or at least he felt it without johnny. and we know that, with the conversation during boat drinks, that because of v, kerry is able to move on. boat drinks is where he confesses this. because of v, kerry reaches a level of self-satisfaction and even acceptance. in this gig, kerry and v reach the conclusion that he has reached ‘maturity.’
kerry is no longer grieving johnny, and moves on and no longer thinks about him. he’s no longer suicidal or unhappy with his life, and he is no longer looking for external sources to fill his life with. despite kerry saying ‘to fill that hole with now’ we know that v taught kerry to healthily process and move on from things that hold him back. ‘someone more important’ being v, shows us that v allowed kerry to form healthy, good attachments that help him.
the way that they showed this development, in my biased opinion, was flawless and realistic. and the way they tied this into the tower ending was just as flawless and consistent with kerry’s character development. even after v disappears, kerry chases his dream to perform on the crystal palace. he couldn’t have done that without v. he releases new music that he feels proud of, and he couldn’t have done it without v. and he spends two years working towards these healthy, self-serving goals that help him work through the trauma of losing a loved one (again). and we know, from when johnny came back after FIFTY years, that kerry’s reaction was very minor. kerry expected johnny to come back, he waited for him. in those fifty years, he managed to produce the same amount as he did in the TWO years he spent waiting for v. and we know kerry was waiting for v because he reacts the same way, only completely overjoyed. this, being something that does not change when kerry matures and grows, must just be the way kerry is, the way he loves. he waits, and trusts.
kerry told v to wait for him. kerry was realistic about how long he’d be, and this, is a perfectly valid ask considering how long he had waited for v. kerry is overjoyed to see v alive and (mostly) well. he feels this for v, and not for johnny, which just further proves that v gave him what he needed to move on. he says to v, ‘i wish you were here.’ when we look at this compared to the other romance opinions, it’s more than clear that kerry loves v the most, and he means the most to kerry out of everyone. judy moves on and gets married to someone else after only two years, and then accuses v of trying to ruin her happiness. panam doesn’t even want to talk to v, and river tells v that he won’t see them, and hangs up on them mid-sentence. but kerry? laughs ecstatically when he sees v, tells him he wishes he was there too, and then promises that he’ll come back after four months at the absolute most. he doesn’t lie to v, he doesn’t ignore v, he values what v says, and offers to help in any way he can, and promises he will come back. that’s love.
how people got the notion that kerry moves on is genuinely confusing to me. he is on a contract, he cannot, even when he desperately wants to, just leave. also, bro was in SPACE he can’t just fly to earth on a whim.
kerry growing and maturing and learning to cope healthily is not kerry losing care for v over those two years. kerry, especially when we look at the other romance opinions, loved v an immense amount. and as a complex character, we have to look at the complex reasoning behind his actions and words, which CDPR did nothing but justice to.

Headcanons of V that live rent free in my head.
☆ I made it so that they can relate to both fem and masc V ☆
Due to the biochip taking over V's mind, after a while Johnny had become very good at sensing when there was going to be a relic malfunction and would pre-warn V if they were about to have an episode.
V drinks a Jackie Welles every time they meet a new client in the Afterlife, and drinks a Johnny Silverhand before the start of a big gig. Both of them good luck charms, a Welles symbolised the beginning of a new partnership, and a Silverhand to bring luck and to start the gig on a high note. It had become a tradition very shortly after V had taken over.
V regularly visits Mama Welles after the biochip is removed. To relive and talk stories about Jackie over a table of food, both of them found it comforting in knowing that Jackie was watching over them both.
Panam's view of Night City very much one-sided due to her personal experience, V would later show Panam the sights and sounds of their personal favourite spots of the NC to convince her of the City's beauty.
V keeps many of Johnny's traits after the biochip is removed. The most obvious being that their posture is now a lot more slouched, and they are more inclined to make their frustrations known. They can also perfectly play Johnny's chords having never practised.
V boxed with Jackie and Viktor. Not as obsessed as the other two, V never managed to takedown Jackie but managed to takedown Vik once on the account that Jackie had unintentionally distracted him.
V kept in touch with Nancy after the Samurai concert. An investigative journaler, she would often ask V if they had any potential leads from their work that could be covered, or point them in the direction of events that were a bit too hostile for her on the promise that she could cover it from the sidelines.
Toward the end of the biochip taking control, V would receive regular texts from Kerry. V's habits much like Johnny's, self-care was very low down on V's list and depending on the relationship that V had with him, Kerry would message to make sure that V and Johnny were okay. Well aware of Johnny's antics and knowing that they had rubbed off on V, Kerry would regularly keep in touch and invite them over for food if he felt that V was not eating properly or needed to rest. Despite the impression that Kerry had made of himself, he was a very good cook and V had become his reason to pick it back up.

There Are No Victors, Only Survivors
A/N: First fic ever on here... I'm a little nervous, but excited to start a new chapter in my life! Let me know what you think of this! [ I also read the books 7 years ago and I'm almost done binge-watching the movies so don't burn me alive if I get the lore wrong :) ]
Pairing: Finnick Odair x Reader (platonic or romantic)
Summary: After winning the games, you go on camera to discuss your win with Caesar. Footage of the games causes you to recall a painful memory, one you'd rather leave in that arena.
TW: Trauma from the games, large crowds, murder
Tumblr media
The crowd screams your name as you enter the stage. Your ears still ring from the sound of canons, your mind is numb from the numerous deaths you witnessed and caused, and your lips are dry even though you had plenty to eat and drink before this.
Caesar kindly waves you over, and you stick a warm smile on your face as you head towards him.
"Our victor, everyone!"
The crowd goes wild, and you bow to absorb as much attention and positivity as you need. You're a possession of the Capital now, and any out-of-line move could end with 24 dead tributes instead of 23.
It's just an interview, just like before the games. Stay calm... you can do this.
"Now, there are many pressing questions that the people of Panam want to know... including myself," Caesar nudges your side, and you laugh as if it's the funniest joke you've ever heard, "but there is one question that is on all of our minds: who did you hear after the jabberjays were released?"
You pause, and the smile slips from your face for a moment before you notice a camera. You quickly recover with a small head shake.
"My mom and my dad, of course." You gracefully answer.
"Really? No special someone? You seemed too torn up after that bird followed you around for three whole days." He exaggerates, and the crowd has a mixed reaction to his question.
"I-" You pause as you hear footage play from the screen behind you.
The crushing of leaves and the pounding of your heart are the only rhythms that your ears hear. Your feet carry you along, but your mind is in a much different place.
The game makers, after deciding that their handmade hell wasn't enough torture, decided to send each contestant a jabberjay just to see what would happen.
The screams of your mother and father were the first, and you immediately jumped up from your hiding spot to find them. When you realized that the sound was coming from a bird, you tried to bury your head in the sand and continue along as if nothing was happening.
The cries of loved ones turned into the cries of your friends. The ones that you had trained with in District 4 before you had been reaped. Those kids, especially the younger ones, gave you the motivation to keep fighting.
You didn't sleep the first night, and the second night was interrupted by nightmares and cannons booming every other hour. You figured that the other tributes had gone mad and had taken their anger out of each other.
...Good thing you kept away from the pack and tried to survive on your own.
The third day, however, was your breaking point. The screams of your friends had died out, and you thought that damn bird had finally left you alone. You were a defenseless fool in that moment, especially when the scream perfectly matched Finnick's voice.
He was your mentor, your friend, and had been your rock when you were scared of being another victim of the games. Hearing his screams, his cries for help... it broke you behind anything that had happened to you so far.
You didn't hesitate to pick up a rock and strike the bird right between its eyes, killing it on the spot.
After that, you came crashing to the ground with tears in your eyes. You didn't eat or drink anything that day as your thoughts were consumed with worries of his safety.
When you looked up to the sky to see the tributes that were honored at night, you realized that there was only one left: a career from District 2.
You didn't have to do much, as she stumbled upon your camp later that night. You managed to gather yourself enough to grab a knife, but she didn't attack you.
The desperation, the fear, the anger inside of her eyes... but everything else about her was deflated and depressed. You were sure that you looked the same, if not worse.
She closes her eyes for a moment, and you say a small prayer before throwing the knife into her chest.
The last cannon went off, and your ears were buzzing as you were announced as the newest victor. Nothing seemed real anymore, for all you knew, everyone you had already cared about was dead and the jabberjays were just used to mock you.
After being airedlifted out of the arena, you were taken to the Capital, where Mags and Finnick were waiting for you. You nearly fell over when you took a step towards them.
"Easy there, honey. Don't want you hurting yourself before your big interview." Finnick catches your arm, and you softly thank him before taking Mags' hand.
"The jabberjays, they sounded like my parents and my friends and..." You pause as a few tears slip past your eyes, "and you two."
He pulls you into a warm hug as you bawl your eyes out, not only for the three lives you had to take inside of that arena but for the part of you that died in there as well.
"So, who is that someone that had you all choked up, huh?"
You blink for a beat as you pull yourself back into reality.
"My best friend - they're my everything, they've been my rock for so many years, and I'm so happy that I get to see them again."
The crowd eats up your answer like it's a five-course buffet as Caesar smiles at you.
"Well, I'm glad that they are part of the reason that we have such an amazing victor!" He takes your hand and raises it high, and the crowd in the Capitol grows louder.
Your body was there, and your innocence was destroyed in the arena, but your thoughts and feelings were settled on one special person.
Finnick.

Oh boy you better get your asses ready because I just beat the game again on 2.1+ and I think it actually has interesting implications for Kerry’s romance. SPOILERS FOR THE SUN ENDING SPECIFICALLY!
Like many other players, I got the Sun ending the first time I played, and (other than when I’m roleplaying a new type of character) it’s the ending I always go for and consider canon for my main oc Vesper. Over on the subreddit(s), people seem to view this ending as definitely 100% implying that V finds a cure and lives to see old age. While of course I would love my character to live a long and happy life, I don’t think that’s the case. V free floats off into space toward a several trillion dollar heavily guarded spacecraft filled with the most elite of the elite. That job was a suicide mission, and I interpreted this ending as V going out with a bang so they could finally, actually become a real Night City legend.
I believe Kerry knows this. When he calls you during the credits, Kerry asks you in a casual tone to buy some olives on your way back, then his voice gets soft and he goes, “Actually, you know what, forget it. I’ll buy them myself.” He does this backtracking in conversation several times during his romance, and I always read it as him being uncomfortable talking about his feelings. He stops himself from apologizing to V during A Like Supreme: Kerry gives V the gun he tried to shoot Johnny with, V reminding him that he was actually aiming the gun at V’s head. Kerry says “yeah…” in an apologetic tone and then starts saying “And earlier when–” then stops himself and says “nevermind.” Kerry also does this during Boat Drinks. He starts by saying “You shake things up, V. Make me feel…” trails off for a second, then stutters before saying “uh, I mean.” It sounds like he has a habit of stopping himself when he starts to feel he’s being too vulnerable.
Now, during the Sun epilogue, Kerry doesn’t hesitate when he tell’s V “I don’t want to lose you.” This would normally be a very vulnerable thing to say, and Kerry’s shown that he always backtracks in moments such as these. He even goes so far as to repeat it and make direct eye contact as he says it again. This makes it seem like maybe he’s done some emotional growing and is now more comfortable talking about his feelings, specifically with V. So, if that were the case, why does he restart the habit of backtracking in the credits call? He doesn’t backtrack during the emotional part, when he tells V he wants them to spend more time together and try to be less busy for one another. He only corrects himself when he talks about V coming back. Because he knows V isn't coming back. Even before that, right before V gets on the flying Delamain to head to the Afterlife, he says “Take care of yourself.” to Kerry, which feels very final, like he doesn’t think he’ll see Kerry again.
With all the other romances, saying goodbye in the mansion makes perfect sense. Panam is leaving with the Aldecaldos, Judy is leaving Night City for good, and River expresses that he feels their relationship doesn't feel equal. The conversation V has with Kerry feels very much like any of their other conversations throughout the game: Kerry talks about his stuff, then once he’s gotten it out of his system, asks how V is doing. But with some notable, very subtle changes.
Kerry is always excited to talk about himself, and rarely asks much about V unless he’s making sure V isn’t already dead. The text that actually sparked me wanting to put these thoughts to paper is the one where Kerry takes a personality quiz and it labels him as a narcissist. He’s self absorbed, sure, but he doesn't have the psychiatric disorder Narcissism as far as I’m convinced. Whichever reply you send, his responses are pretty funny. However, getting that text reminded me that the first time I played Cyberpunk I really wasn’t all that into Kerry as a character, and definitely not as a romance option.
So, the conversation you have in V’s mansion in the Sun ending is actually much more V focused than previous interactions with Kerry. When Kerry asks if you’re alright, even if you say everything’s fine, he still insists that he’s there for V and willing to talk, cuddle, fuck, whatever V needs. This is in stark contrast to when you call Kerry on the rooftop before picking your ending. During that call, he definitely notices something is off with V and asks if he’s ok, but doesn’t press any further when V says he’s fine. His dialog in the Sun ending is strangely caring for Kerry, who otherwise always seemed like V was more of a convenient side-piece with whom he shared a mutual friend. Obviously, as I’ve played the game more and considered Kerry’s quests and dialog options from different angles, I really like him as a character and see much more of his depth than I did on my first playthrough.
Now here’s why playing the game on version 2.1+ is important: 2.1 added dates with your romance options to the game (the “I really want to stay at your house” repeatable quest). If you were to consider the new texts, dialog, and gift responses from the perspective of any of the other endings, Kerry’s replies sound somewhat out of character. The phrasing, the word choice, the tone is all Kerry, but the sentiment is decidedly not so. “I really like you, V. Thought I should remind you.” after the first time he goes over to V’s. His response to getting the flowers or car, he’s almost too complimentary; I feel like Kerry would mention everything wrong with the gift first, then admit that he actually likes it, but still find a way to show his appreciation without saying the words “thank you, V.”
However, if you put everything added in 2.1 into the context of the Sun ending, it starts to feel like Kerry is growing as a person. That’s what his whole quest string was about, sure, but you don’t see him put any of those personal changes into practice after Boat Drinks (mostly because all the romance options just stop leaving their houses once you reach the end of their questlines). So the sweet, appreciative texts after dates and gifts, leading into the way he’s much more focused on V and their relationship during the Sun ending, It actually feels like a natural growth for his character. It’s like the dates, the gifts, the cute little replies, are all the beginning stages of him becoming a much more attentive partner in the Sun ending. Kerry even says himself, before V gets on the Delamain, that their relationship has changed his outlook on life and helped him reprioritize things. The 2.1 additions actually make it feel like we watched that journey begin for him, instead of it just being told to us after a time skip.

Some Panam imagines because she’s awesome.
(SPOILERS)
I like to think that thanks to Johnny, V can now shred it on guitars like a pro without the former taking over. I laugh at the idea of V being hyped up to sing at the campfire and then singing Ripped Pants from Spongebob which makes Panam spit out her drink and laugh into fetal position.
Continuing the Virtuouso V headcannon, V is called to the campfire to sing again which has Panam expecting another silly song. Only this time V dedicates a spoof song to her they dub as “Let Me Drive My Tank Into Your Heart.” Bonus points to yall who know the original song.
If V and Panam were to ever have a dedicated song, platonic or romantic, it would be “Never Was a Love Like Mine” from Mad Monster Party. This song’s lyrics remind me of how much Panam cares for V. This would be a nice slow dance song for the two.
V and Panam often wear each others jackets. It just sort of happened one day and all the other Aldecaldos found it endearing.
If V is a former Nomad, then it’s harder for Panam to convince V to become an Aldecaldo because they are wary of losing another clan/family.
I think Panam would like the soundtrack to Bat Out of Hell and would dominate karaoke with “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.”
If you had befriended Panam, Judy, Kerry, and River then these chooms should have been in the audience of the final fight in Beat on the Brat. The idea of V’s friends being their cheerleaders is funny. Panam would be the one cheering for V the loudest, even screaming the famous words “GRAB HIS DICK AND TWIST IT.”
An alternative to how Phantom Liberty ended instead of losing Panam: V takes precautions of telling Reed to inform all their friends about V’s whereabouts after the operation LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE. If V Romanced Panam, then they would wake up the Aldecaldo’s newest camp with Panam and Reed by their side. Immediately Panam is kissing V all over then Reed explains the whole thing where V can’t use combat chrome anymore. Panam immediately reassures V that she’ll take care of them. Then she brings V out to a bbq where all of their friends are waiting to finally greet V as they begin their new life with the Aldecaldos and Panam. I LIKE HAPPY ENDINGS DAMMIT.

The Sky is Open
He’d known the moment that Alex walked into his flight deck that this flight would be anything but boring—or he would have, had he been paying attention. As it is, Henry is too busy checking his instruments to notice his chief stewardess greeting the pilot who’s supposed to be deadheading to London with them. … Henry turns to see Emily with an almost mischievous tilt to her perfect smile, possibly because she’s standing next to the most stunning man Henry’s ever seen. “Alex, this Captain Fox.” (A 1970s jet age Pan Am pilots AU)
(firstprince, 5k, E) Pulling this one out because I feel like it's a bit of a sleeper. Apparently 1970s PanAm pilots is maybe a little weird for some people, lol. But I love this one so much, particularly the twist—which a decent number of people guessed, sometimes almost by accident—and I had so much fun reading people's reactions. Badland Dancing
This is what happens when you let gay people do anything
Anyway,COLLAB TIME WITH @arczism AND SHE MADE ART FOR THIS AND LET ME TALK HER EAR OFF ABOUT IT AND INSPIRED MOST OF IT SO GO LOOK AT THE ART FOR IT
Dating V meant a lot of things. Sometimes it meant 2am clean ups when he went on jobs and didn’t go straight to Vik, sometimes it meant not seeing him for two days and getting spoiled when he got back as an apology, and it also meant trips to the Badlands.. Not the ideal date or vacation but Kerry endured it regardless.
V would get him all dressed in head to toe gear, which normally turned into jokes about how long it was gonna take him to get Kerry out of it that night, but also it smelled like V and Kerry loved it. He stole his clothes as disguises anyway, but maybe it was also a tad bit of Kerry’s possessive side coming out, letting people know he was V’s and V was his.
Despite it all though, Kerry did like sitting around the campfire. A guitar would get put in his hands and he’d strum away with V leaned on him while he played. After everything they had gone through, Kerry was glad V was finally letting him into his world. With the promise of a forever at the tips of their tongues.
The Aldecadlos almost never seemed to believe Kerry would be coming, because what rock star would wanna hang out in the Badlands? None, and even now with nearly a full year under their belt of being together, Kerry had only ever been a few times. He couldn’t stand being away from V for long, and according to the nomads, V couldn’t stand it either. They’d tease him around the campfire about how he’d moan and groan about missing Kerry.
Kerry wandered out of their tent after V had set it up to find him and Panam setting up the campfire. He watched from afar, watching V’s shoulders and back shift as he lifted wood and dropped it. The sun was going down now, and it had finally cooled a bit. And much to everyone’s delight, Kerry had promised a song or two by the fire.
By the time the fire was ready, Panam and Kerry had settled next to each other to let V finish the work, which resulted in a lot of teasing from Panam about how V was such a good worker and such, V just rolled his eyes as he started the fire and people started to settle around it in exhaustion. A guitar was handed to Kerry as promised, V requesting the boat song. That’s how Kerry knew these people were special, special enough to have V wanting them to hear that.
The night went on, jokes and drinks and stories passed around, until the subject of dancing came up. “I’m assuming Mr. Rockstar knows how to dance?” Panam asked, a bit starstruck every time she looked at Kerry. Kerry just laughed and nodded. “I know how to do a lot, tango, slow dancing,” he nudged V teasingly, then noticed a look.
“What? Your man can slow dance but you can’t?” Panam asked, meaning it teasingly but V shrugged. “Nope.”
“Wait wait wait, we’ve been together how long? And you never told me you can’t dance?” Kerry asked, acting as if that would ever come up. V just shrugged again. “Wasn’t a skill I needed growing up, don’t need to know how slowdance on the streets.” Kerry frowned a bit, then stood.
“Come on,” He held out his hands for his partner to take, earring a raised eyebrow. “What?” V laughed, not moving.
“I’m gonna teach you how to slow dance.” Kerry said simply, pulling V up like he was nothing. Okay V may have started to get up by that point but no one needed to know that. Kerry knew a lot of basic things in his day to day life is what V would consider a luxury. Hell waking up in a bed and a roof over their heads V considered luxurious.
“Now?” V asked softly, and Kerry just smiled, nodding. He was 90 years old, his shame died with Johnny about 51 years ago. He’s done and seen more embarrassing things than a Merc who can’t dance in front of his friends. And besides, V looked amazing by the fire, the glow in his eyes and how it reflected off of his face and lit up his hair enough to show the red in it. How could he not want to show his love that didn’t involve taking his clothes off right here… now that was an idea- Kerry no. Focus.
Kerry showed him the correct places to put his hands, talking him through it. He was distantly aware of the guitar being strummed to a slow beat that Kerry could work with. V looked so lost in what he was doing, but it was cute. And Kerry fell in love a bit more with him every single day. Especially when V was looking at him with the same look he himself gave someone that never returned it. It took a while, but he found someone that looked at him the same way.
The dance was clumsy, Kerry unable to keep his laughter back watching the big bad Merc stumble over his own two feet. Panam had moved to give them more space, and to probably save her own ass if V ended up falling, smart girl, Kerry would give her that.
“Ker, I’m gonna step on your feet-“ V whispered, more focused on his mainline than the world around them.
“Baby you’re doin’ just fine, relax a little. Besides, these boots were made to be roughed up. They’re your boots anyway.” Kerry teased, tilting his head up to make V look at him. “There ya go, see? Just focus on me and you’ll fall into step with me okay?” He said, V nodded a bit. He was touched that V was worried about stepping on his toes though.
“You dance about as well as an infant.” Kerry teased, making V laugh a bit. “Like I said, no need for dancing on the streets..”
“You aren’t on the streets anymore, baby. You’re all mine now..” Kerry whispered before leaning up for a kiss, both pulling back in surprise when there were whistles and catcalling from the nomads. Kerry had forgotten they were there and what he had been doing in the first place.
He smiled innocently up at V, which earned a genuine smile back, before Kerry suddenly dipped him. His merc gripped onto his shoulder with a gasp of surprise and laughter from the group around him. V gasped out a curse before Kerry sealed their lips again. Kerry felt V smiling against his lips, cupping his face.
The Aldecadlos cheered around them, Kerry doing a little bow before sitting back down again, then grunted when V flopped into his lap and laid on his chest. He kissed his temple and wrapped his arms around him, gently patting his chest. He would have laughed in your face if you had told him he’d be hanging out in the Badlands with his merc boyfriend right now, but he wouldn’t change this for the damn world.
He knew his phone was probably being blown up right now, and when they got back he’d be bombarded with questions on where they hell he had been, and why he hadn’t answered. He’d worry about it when they got back to the city, right now his focus was on the man leaned against him.
V gently moved his head up to whisper in Kerry’s ear, reaching up to take one of his hands innocently.
“You ever heard of the devil’s tango?”
Kerry grinned.
“Heard of it, baby I invented it.”
“You wanna teach me?” V asked, and when Kerry pulled back to look down at him, V was giving him the most innocent look for a man that just suggested such a thing.
“Absolutely.”

A Carmen Berzatto Universe
A/N: Here’s another request from my inbox - Carmen and Vanessa’s first date! This does not, however, include their first kiss. Feel free to slide more requests for these two my way :) Happy Sunday!
Vanessa Monaghan is the breath of fresh air that Carmen had been gasping for.
Chapter 20: Dancing Bears
Tumblr media
Carmen shifted in his seat at Trunk Noodle. He and Vanessa had exchanged a few texts since meeting at the supermarket last week and while he’d felt confident enough walking her through the neighborhood grocer, he was now sweating bullets.
He’d been stressed all day, from texting Syd to let her know he’d need the night off to figuring out what to wear – and attempting to manage his curls when he desperately needed a haircut.
He’d suggested the restaurant, which was a hole in the wall Vietnamese place in West Loop from which he frequently ordered takeout. He’d arrived 10 minutes early and was greeted by the staff warmly. They knew Carmen as a customer and a chef, and reassured him he always had a table.
At 7 p.m. on the dot, the doors to the restaurant, whose dining room was no bigger than a home’s family room, opened up and there stood Vanessa.
She was better looking than he recalled, and he’d had several days to romanticize her silky brunette hair and long kohl lashes. She beamed a wide smile upon seeing him and he stood, meeting her halfway in a brief, but tight hug before he pulled out her chair.
“It smells amazing in here,” she gushed before even saying hello.
“I love this place,” Carmen nodded, taking his seat. “I didn’t even think to ask if you liked Vietnamese, I just assumed,” he shrugged softly, a small smile on his face.
“I’ve never had Vietnamese,” Vanessa confessed, to which Carmen grinned, “but I have a feeling I’ll like it.”
Their server brought over shots of fresh coconut milk with lime before taking drink orders.
“Why don’t you order?” Vanessa suggested.
“Are you sure?” Carmen asked.
“Our server addressed you by name, so something tells me you’ve been here before – I’ll try anything,” she smiled. Carmen’s heart skipped a beat.
“No allergies?” He asked, closing his menu. He knew it front to back by heart anyway.
“None,” she shook her head. Carmen rattled off four or five dishes when the server returned with their Cokes and she gladly clinked her glass bottle against his.
“So you know what I do,” Carmen cleared his throat softly. “What do you do for a living?” He asked.
“I work in marketing,” she began, crossing her legs. “For a firm called Olson Group downtown, I’ve been there since I left school.”
“So what exactly does that mean? Like commercials?” He asked.
“Kind of – commercial adjacent,” she nodded, “I help clients of all industries, so retail, restaurant, tech and ecommerce with branding, advertising, public relations management, pretty much anything that’s public-facing for their company.”
“Who’s your favorite client?” Carmen asked, ready to listen to her talk about anything. He liked the way her mouth shaped around the words she spoke.
“Right now, probably United Airlines,” she grinned, “they’re doing this retro PanAm-type of throwback branding overhaul and it’s just been a blast going through old school inspiration and updating it to fit 2021, but with a nod to the past.”
“That’s a huge company,” he commented, surprised.
“Our firm does a lot of big clients,” she nodded. “Our headquarters are here, but we have offices all over North America and Europe – I got to do a transfer year in Luxembourg, it was one of the best years of my life,” she grinned.
“Are you from Chicago?” Carmen asked, realizing he was practically interrogating this woman. “Sorry, god, I don’t mean to grill you.”
“I’m an open book,” she laughed. “It’s like a universal truth that people enjoy talking about themselves, right? I am from Chicago,” she nodded, “and I don’t mean Evanston or Rockford, but Chicago.”
“River North,” Carmen nodded.
“Lincoln Park,” she replied. “But I should caveat I went to grade school in Evanston.”
“I see,” Carmen quirked a small, knowing smile. Vanessa couldn’t believe someone with eyes that blue even existed. There was something about the round of his shoulders, prominent nose and jawline that made Carmen breathtakingly beautiful.
“I knew it!” she laughed, “stop judging me!”
“I’m not judging! Just filing it away for later,” Carmen’s first laugh helped draw his shoulders down from his ears.
Dishes started to pile up on their table as plate after plate was delivered and Vanessa excitedly dug into everything she could, enjoying every bite.
“This one’s a little risky,” Carmen said, stabbing a piece of lemon pepper squid, twirling it about in a sauce before holding it up in front of Vanessa without second thought. She gladly leaned over their small table to take a bite.
“It’s so’good,” she moaned. Carmen’s arms broke out into goose bumps. “Everything is so good,” she commented, holding up her fork with excitement at the spread in front of her, deciding on what to eat next.
Carmen explained more and more of what they were eating and they compared the dishes, ranking them as conversation flowed.
“So why did you decide to come back to Chicago? Miss home?” Vanessa asked.
“Something like that,” Carmen nodded, averting his gaze to the table before looking back to Vanessa. He might as well be honest. “I actually hadn’t planned on it, but my brother, who owned The Beef, he died,” he said, picking up his drink. “And he left it to me.” Vanessa’s eyes softened.
“I’m sorry to hear that, Carmen,” she said with heartfelt honestly. “What was he like?” Carmen swallowed softly. People never asked follow up questions, and if they did, it was never that.
“Eccentric in the best way possible,” Carmen recalled the older days, cooking in their family kitchen and how he idolized Mikey growing up – before things changed. “He was a really good storyteller and knew how to bring people together.”
“Is he your only sibling?” Vanessa asked, taking another bite of her spring roll.
“I’ve got a sister, Natalie,” he nodded. “What about you? Only child?” Vanessa threw her head back with a laugh.
“Am I putting off only-child energy?” She asked. “No, I’ve got two sisters – Nicola, she’s 20 and goes to DePaul, and Hannah, she’s in sixth grade.”
“Three girls,” Carmen raised his brows.
“My Dad thinks it’s penance for his wild boy days,” she laughed. “He raised us on his own – he’s incredibly in touch with his feminine side. My mom died a few weeks after Hannah was born, drunk driver accident,” she offered, seeing as Carmen had really opened himself up by telling her about his brother, she felt compelled to do the same.
“I’m sorry,” Carmen winced. He wasn’t sure what was worse, losing someone by their choice, or against their will.
Vanessa simply smiled, reaching across to squeeze his hand on the tabletop.
“Do you think we could order more of these?” she held up her fork, which had speared a pork wonton.
“Anything you want,” Carmen said sincerely. He’d serve his heart up on a platter it meant she’d smile at him again.
After dinner was finished, they’d agreed to take a stroll and try to walk off their overstuffed stomachs. The weather was nice enough as Chicago approached the end of summer and they weren’t far from Oz Park, which Carmen learned was one of Vanessa’s favorite parks in the city.
Carmen skirted the side of the walkways that were closest to the street and when a large group of people came by, Vanessa deftly stepped closer into his side, tucking her hand around one of his biceps. His brain shorted at her soft skin pressed against his.
“Oh,” she said softly, pausing in front of the retaining wall of a brownstone where a small bear had been spray-painted just above where the wall met the sidewalk. “I need to take a photo quick,” she said, whipping out her phone and crouching down to snap a picture. “Bears are my favorite animal,” she explained, “which sounds really juvenile, but my sisters and I always send each other pictures when we see them out in the wild.”
Carmen gulped softly.
“Why bears?” He asked.
“It’s actually a story our Mom used to tell us that her mother told her,” she said, stepping back into his side and lacing her fingers with his. Carmen squeezed her hand softly as they began to move forward again. “There’s this belief in our grandmother’s culture that when you pass away, you come back reincarnated as an animal, and everyone wants to be a bear because they’re the king of the animal kingdom,” she explained. “So when people pass, they come back to the world as an animal and those that are bears are so happy, they dance,” she laughed. “I don’t know, it sounds silly, but it’s always stuck with us.”
Carmen paused, gently tugging Vanessa’s hand so she’d step closer to him.
“It’s not silly,” he assured. “It actually makes more sense than most things people have said to me about the afterlife – thank you for sharing that with me.”
“Carmen?” Vanessa asked as they continued their way toward Oz Park. He looked over at her, not minding when an errant curl flopped onto his forehead. “I know our first date isn’t over, but I’d really like to go on a second date.”
“Me too.”

To the End of the Line
Rating: T
Fandom: Cyberpunk 2077
Pairing: Johnny Silverhand x Fem!V (platonic or romantic)
Warnings: Suicidal ideation, discussions of grief, hurt/comfort
Summary: V finally gets to mourn Jackie properly instead of hiding from her feelings
Tumblr media
Her mouth was too dry for the pill she forced down her gullet, but she didn't care. V downed a gulp of rum from her flask to wash it down. Vik had probably said something about not doing that, but she needed something to dull the pain.
She hopped off her motorcycle, looking up at the Columbarium. Her hands were shaking and she almost regretted doing this alone. Maybe she should've asked Misty to come, or maybe Panam. A part of her even regretted taking the Omega Blocker, Johnny's ribbing always had a way of distracting her from whatever was bothering her.
But she couldn't let him see this, she needed something to herself, something that was all her own. Something he couldn't fuck up.
It wasn't the first time she'd gone to visit Jackie, but it was the first time in longer than she'd like to admit. It was the first time since right after his ofredna.
His niche was fairly out of the way, Mama Welles having scraped together all she could to get the nicest one she could provide. V had offered to pay, of course she had. But Mama Welles had refused, of course she had. The whole family was always far too proud for their own good.
"Hey Jacks." She said quietly, hands folded in front of her.
She raised her right hand and ran it across his name, glowing a soft blue against the grey concrete. She then moved to her throat, gently thumbing the bullet necklace Misty had gifted her. Once again she found herself missing Johnny's ever-present snark.
“So, I did it, kinda." She laughed, wiping her eyes with the back of her hand. "I mean, I'm dyin' so that's not great, but every fixer in town thinks I'm the biggest thing since Morgan Blackhand, so that's cool."
She paused, but she wasn't sure what she expected. An answer, maybe? Maybe she'd gotten too used to the dead talking back, meeting two in the last couple weeks. Three if she counted herself.
"Um, you got your drink, choom. I get it every time I go to the Afterlife, which is pretty often..." She sniffed. "Misty misses you, talks about you all the time. Mama too, I try to be there for them but… you know I was never good with the emotional stuff. They've been helping each other, I think…. it's nice, I think" She shook her head. "Of course it's nice, what I meant was just-"
V leaned her head against the concrete. "Fuck, Jackie. I miss you, I miss you real bad." She shuddered, unable to stop the tears that now fell at full force. "It's hard, Jacks, goin' on without you. Sometimes I'll be on a job and I'll turn to look, expectin' to see your stupid grin at just blowin' some gonk away but…… And then I just get this sinking pit in my chest that I just can't get rid of."
She shuddered
"I fucking hate being alive without you, Jackie." She pulled back, gently running a finger over his name. "Sometimes I can't wait for this stupid chip to kill me. I don't know if I agree with Mama and Padre about what comes after, or even Misty. But, fuck, at least it'll stop hurting so fucking much."
"Shit, V."
She jumped, instinctively drawing her gun and pointing it in the direction of the voice.
Johnny didn't flinch, why would he?
She didn't bother to wipe her eyes, allowing her tears to trickle down her reddened cheeks. "What the fuck are you doing here? I took the blockers."
He shrugged. "They wore off a couple minutes ago, thinkin' they probably aren't as effective anymore.”
She cursed, holstering her gun and turning away from him. "So you couldn't give me a little bit of fucking privacy then? Not a single moment alone to mourn my fucking choom? Haven't you ever lost someone before?"
"Yeah, that's why I know you shouldn't be alone right now."
There was a sincerity in his voice that she hadn't heard before, at least not in her own memories. There was something in his though, but she couldn't quite reach it.
“C'mon, I need to show you somethin’”
V furrowed her brow, but followed as the engram led her through the Columbarium to the very back.
“Alt’s niche?”
He shook his head, and pointed to the one up and to the right of it.
Robert John Linder 1988 - 2003
She racked her brain, trying to find someone by that name in his past. But she came up empty.
“Who was he?”
“That's my name- or, it was. After I deserted I changed it, I left that man behind. I saw friends die, I saw brothers die. Better men than me, men who deserved to live way more than I ever did. And they died for nothing, for a stupid fucking corpo dick measuring contest.”
"Johnny-“
“So yeah, V, I lost people. Even before Alt and fuck I think those hurt more. I know how it feels, that survivor's guilt that fuckin' eats you alive: But I couldn't die, I knew I was meant for bigger things. I knew I was gonna fuckin' do something with my life. And so are you, V”
She couldn't meet his eyes.
“You ain't gonna die, V. We're gonna find a way to fix this"
She lifted her head, smiling slightly. "We huh?'
It was hard to tell behind his dark sunglasses, but V was pretty sure he rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, V. We. I'm with ya, to the end of the line.”
“To the end of the line.” She agreed.

for virgile: 💓 - What are some signs they’ve fallen for someone? How do they show their affection?
for vanessa: 🤡 - What’s something dumb they’re embarrassed about?
Thanks for asking about my main babies ! For once, i will try to not let asks in my drafts for months, and these questions are perfect ♥
[MISC ASK MEME]
VIRGILE
💓 - What are some signs they’ve fallen for someone? How do they show their affection?
Virgile is like an open book, his emotions written all over his face. He blushes more, he wants to spend time with the other person, but at the same time he's a bit more cautious, because he's no good at making the first move. He's terrible at seduction. But in his reserve, he's more devoted, his gaze stays on the person a little longer, and he smiles a little more. A real walking paradox.
As for affection, the netrunner likes quality time and physical contact, if not both at the same time. He's not always good at expressing how he feels, but he shows it when he strokes the other person's hair, snuggles up to them, touches their hand with his own. He loves sharing moments with others, even the most normal ones. He spends a lot of time in the car with Panam, talking, eating, laughing and listening to her sing (badly). And of course his affection shows in his eyes, in the way he looks at her, even just when she's crossing the camp in the distance, he sees her and all the love is in her blue eyes. After all, it's said that the eyes mirror the soul!
VANESSA
🤡 - What’s something dumb they’re embarrassed about?
Ah ah, i have the perfect story ! For her 20th birthday, Jackie organised a huge party at Coyote Cojo, where all her friends and relations came to celebrate the young woman. Among them was Viktor, more of a friend of Jackie's, but Vanessa had a bit of a crush on him at the time, just flirting gently until he made a move on her (which he never did). And that evening, after a few drinks, Vaness flirted outrageously with the ripperdoc and even sat on his lap! Embarrassed, Viktor preferred to leave, but the party went on.
The next day, Vanessa woke up with a post-cooked headache to find Jackie laughing in the kitchen. He was in too much of a hurry to tell this story to his hermana, who no longer had all the details of the end of the evening. When she heard this, she was mortified! So much so that she didn't turn up at Vik's clinic for a month. They both decided to pretend nothing had happened, but there was some awkwardness in the air for a while. It completely stopped Vanessa's crush.
