Now Hear This: Popular Animation, Anime, Gaming Voices Enhance FAN EXPO New Orleans Lineup
Fans of animation, anime and gaming can meet the voices behind characters from their favorite franchises next month when an array of actors from hits like “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “Transformers,” “My Hero Academia,” “Spy x Family,” “Halo,” “Resident Evil Village” and dozens of others attend FAN EXPO New Orleans, set for January 5-7 at Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. With the variety of stars and properties represented, the voice acting section of the celebrity area is sure to again be one of the most visited on the entire convention floor.
Attending from the Animation world are Barry Gordon (“Donatello”), Cam Clarke (“Leonardo”), Townsend Coleman (“Michelangelo”) and Rob Paulsen (“Raphael”) of the beloved animated series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” as well as Peter Cullen (“Transformers,”), Tara Strong (“My Little Pony”), Maurice LaMarche (“Pinky and the Brain”), Kathleen Herles (“Dora the Explorer”), Dante Basco (“Avatar: The Last Airbender”) and Frank Welker (“Transformers”).
Anime voices include those of Ryan Colt Levy (“Chainsaw Man,” “My Hero Academia”), Sarah Wiedenheft (“Chainsaw Man,” “Dragon Ball Super”), Alex Organ (“Loid Forger,” “Spy x Family”), Natalie Van Sistine (“Spy x Family,” “Love Live! Superstar”), Reagan Murdock (“Chainsaw Man,” “Death Battle”), Zach Aguilar (“Demon Slayer,” “Tatty and Misifu”) and Sarah Natochenny (“Pokémon,” “44 Cats”).
Also on the Anime side, FAN EXPO New Orleans will feature Maid Café, powered by Mikkusu and Candy Mix Maids all three days, which includes a meet and greet with the Maids, a short stage performance, fun games, and more. There is a limited amount of seating per day. And Gaming aficionados will revel in meeting the likes of Steve Downes (“Master Chief”), Maggie Robertson (“Resident Evil Village”) and Xander Mobus (“Persona”), as well as many of the animation and anime voices who also work on games, including Strong (“Batman”) and Aguilar (“Genshin Impact”) and others. Most work in two or all three of these genres regularly and have been seen in live action films as well.
The voice actors enhance a FAN EXPO New Orleans celebrity lineup that includes Lord of the Rings “Four Hobbits” Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Billy Boyd and Dominic Monaghan, The Terminator franchise cast members Linda Hamilton, Michael Biehn, Lance Henriksen, Robert Patrick and Edward Furlong, “Charmed” duo of Holly Marie Combs and Rose McGowan, "Daredevil" tandem of Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio, “Star Trek” standouts Sonequa Martin-Green (“Star Trek: Discovery”), Michelle Hurd (“Star Trek: Picard”) and Jonathan Frakes (“Star Trek: The Next Generation,” among others), Jon Bernthal (“The Punisher,” “The Walking Dead”), Sean Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy, “Avengers: Infinity War”), Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”), Danny Trejo (Machete, The Book of Boba Fett), Randy Quaid (National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Kingpin), Katee Sackhoff (Star Wars’ “The Mandalorian”) and more headliners.
FAN EXPO New Orleans features the biggest and best in pop culture: movies, TV, music, artists, writers, exhibitors, cosplay, with three full days of themed programming to satisfy every fandom.

I'm not certain how anyone can watch the amazing enemies to lovers storyline and chemistry between Dora and Sammy in Dora and the Lost City of Gold and somehow turn around and ship Diego x Sammy.
Did y'all see how forced that ship was? We got basically no background of how these two met or what they think of each other, a rather forced minor inconsequential argument between the two of them, stupid situational "oops I woke up two inches away from you" moments that felt awkward af, and this movie expects me to be invested??? Vs the natural way Dora and Sammy's relations progressed? The way they influenced and changed each other? Fuck outta here, I spent half the movie groaning in frustration everytime they tried to put a "moment" between Diego and Sammy, THIS is gonna be my villain origin story.

My take on Dora x Randy
I personally really enjoyed Dora and the Lost City of Gold, and Randy was my favorite character for sure. I just wanted to share my analysis of the Dora and Randy ship... so here we go.
A lot of people don’t like the ship because they feel Randy comes off as over flirtatious. When you watch the movie, he never crossed over any bounds besides socially awkward nerd or genuinly caring friend. If anything, I think he’s just a bullied kid who doesn’t have any friends, which is a LOT like Dora. This is one of the reasons they work well together. Both have to go through what it’s like to have friends for the first time (That’s basically the theme of the movie). You have this super awkward nerd whose only form of human contact is shown to be physical abuse at school and emotional abuse at home. He’s shown eating at the lunch table, alone, with Dora his only table companion. He’s been going through for years what Dora went through for likely a month.
One day, when Randy is at his locker probably anticipating a daily bullying, this beautiful new student comes up to him, treats him like an actual person, has a conversation with him about an interest of his, and gives him a freakin cupcake. Does he jump all over her then? No! If anything, he just seems genuinely confused, because he’s not used to kindness. Even at the lunch table, when Dora asks him what the food she is eating is, he seems a little shocked someone is actually sitting near him and talking to him. He responds, but doesn’t ridicule her. More just confused at the question XD.
I think Randy doesn’t really fall for Dora until after she hallucinates. Before he flirts with Dora and Sammy, probably just excited to be with two girls his own age treating him like an equal. It isn’t until after Randy lost Dora, when he realizes her life is in danger, that his mindset changes. At the beginning, it was a little crush he would show to any girl. After, he falls for her hard. He is so thankful to see she is okay (his face at that scene is adorable), and keeps his hand on her head even after she wakes up. He also sleeps next to her. Some might say this is weird, but obviously, this dude is worried sick about her. Dora almost died, and you better believe I would be SUPER overprotective for a few hours after one of my only friends and crush literally almost died.
You also get the ADORABLE animated scene with DiegoxSammy and DoraxRandy SUPER obvious.
After that night, Randy seems a lot happier and makes a comment about how for the first time, he’s actually feeling really good. Then they fall into the aquifer, and you have this scene where he tries to impress Dora. He starts directly flirting with Dora, using a few “classic us” lines which yes, were cringey, but expected from such a nerd. When he ends up almost drowning everyone (oops), he saves the day and they all get dumped into this big pool. The first thing Randy does is run straight to Dora to give her a hug. Even Dora pulls away from her parents and excitedly hugs him back with a big smile on her face.
The attraction isn’t completely one-sided (though Randy is definitely the more affectionate of the two). For starters, Dora was the one to first approach him, give him a cupcake, be super friendly, and to ASK TO DANCE at the winter ball (out of everyone, she goes to him). She was so happy to ask him, and then seems a little sad that Randy didn’t want to dance, but she shakes it off real well since her personality is to be cheery (and even though she knows she was rejected, she has to be herself <3). Too bad Randy is SO awkward and didnt want to dance :P. They also eat lunch together. Just a lot of little things early on that points to a crush from Dora, or at least clear signs from a possibly autistic girl that she has a special interest in him. Keep in mind Dora is possibly autistic, at the very least socially challenged, so she probably would show a crush in a different way. However, Dora definitely gives Randy a few looks toward the end that cement the fact of a mutual crush.
There are also a few scenes before the Hallucination, that I particularly liked between Randy and Dora. One is Randy calling Dora amazing, and the other is the really sweet look they share before they part ways (Randy to return home, Dora to find her parents). I think that sets up Randy saving her very well. And I like how well Randy and Boots got along, with their cute fistbump (don’t have that picture, sorry)
One big thing that gets me is that at the end of the film, when Dora’s parents tell her she can explore with them, she looks right back at Randy, while Randy is speaking loudly, and says she wants to stay to study the indigenous people 😂 Plus the dip between Dora and Randy makes it canon for me that they are on the path to dating, if not already dating in the final scene. There’s also this really adorable look the two give each other at the end of the movie that I’m so mad I didn’t take a picture of in time.
I thought they were adorable together, and hope they become more canon in a sequel. There’s so much a sequel could do with them. I’d love to see Dora dealing with dating for the first time. I imagine them taking things slow, but also Dora randomly saying things about mating that just turn Randy into a nervous wreck XD. I especially want to see how her Papi would react XD!! And I’d love to see Randy spending time with Dora’s extended family, maybe getting a few lines with her Abuela while making dinner, and just interacting more with Dora’s culture. I also want an astronomy club meeting at some point, and Randy nervously asking Dora out for the first time. I WANT A KISS!

You seem to have your heart set on creek and as a fellow fan I totally understand but let's not forget that matt and trey have no problems with putting characters or ships on the bus or worse if they're not interested in them anymore. I don't know if my heart could take a break up which is stupid because they're ten but so much was invested in this relationship it'd be hard not to feel a little disappointed.
Look, my dude, I shipped Creek way back when their primary interaction was them beating the fucking shit out of each other and I’ll still ship them even if Matt and Trey decide to break them up. Will I be sad? Of course I will be. Sure, things are slowly starting to change, but it will still be fairly painful to lose one of the healthiest gay couples in media, and one of the few in general. (But if Stan and Wendy can still be a popular couple despite their increasingly bad chemistry on-again-off-again relationship, then goddamnit I can still have my Creek over here in my little corner.)
HOWEVER. Considering Matt and Trey’s history? They’re either going to let Creek continue on, but a bit more in the background since their function as a foil to Heiman has pretty much run it’s course (kind of like Big Gay Al and Mr. Slave: still very much together, but they aren’t in the spotlight); or, they’re gonna find a Good Way to end the relationship. How, I don’t know. They might do an episode or a B plot of one where the break up is addressed. But it’s going to be done well. Matt and Trey don’t fuck with that shit, if their track record is anything to go by.
And yeah, they’re ten. A lot of relationships from that don’t last to begin with. Hell, even a good share of friendships from that age don’t make it through middle school. But sometimes? Sometimes they do. They may go through a few bumps along the way, but sometimes they end up working out and being healthy and happy relationships even decades later. Heck, even if Matt and Trey decide to break Creek up, it’s possible Tweek and Craig could run into each other later on in their lives, maybe during or after college, and end reconnecting and getting back together. Who knows? That’s why we’ve got fanfics and our imaginations.
And don’t doubt my power, my friend. I’ve spent my entire life living with queerbaiting and the occasional scrap tossed vaguely in my direction. I lived through the years where Joss Whedon was a god and now he’s aged as well as Bill Cosby. I suffered through the majority of Ryan Reynolds’ acting career and now we’ve been blessed with a gorgeously accurate Deadpool. I’ve lived to see Amazon warriors fighting in accurate, functional armor and I’ve lived to see the glory that is the Dora Milaje. I’ve gotten to see more and more characters written as bi, lesbian, transgender, asexual, gay, and so on as the years go on. And when canon fails me? I can very easily ignore it and rewrite it if I please. And if I can’t, I know there’s someone out there who can and who will. Because this is something fans have been doing since stories first began.
Even if Matt and Trey decide to break up Creek, that’s not gonna change a single goddamned thing for me. Canon can make all the stupid-ass decisions it wants, it’s still our choice to elect to ignore it and go about our fanficing business. Until they pry Ao3 and Microsoft Word from my cold, dead hands, I’m gonna do whatever the hell I want with canon.
My best advice? Don’t worry so much about canon. (Kind of weird coming from me, since I like using canon to build up my headcanons, but still!) If Craig and Tweek break up, who really gives a shit? You can still go on the tag and read those 50+K fics with intricate plots, or the shorter fics where they’re just screwing each other’s brains out, or both. You can still write your stories, draw your art, and all of the stuff we’re doing now, and have always been doing. The Creek fandom was irrationally strong prior to Tweek x Craig, and we’ll still be strong if they break up.
I mean, Kyman is still fucking huge and those two have literally tried to murder each other at multiple points in the show. Kenny’s still a much beloved character even though we’re lucky to even see him once a season anymore. Most of the fandom seems to hate Randy with some degree of passion, yet we keep getting more and more of him. If canon makes a decision you don’t like, feel free to ignore it. It’s a story. They’re meant to be messed with.

- FrDP has weird pairing names. I’ve seen a few lists floating about but they’ve either been incomplete or not up to date. One night, we were talking on the slack and one of said lists were brought up... and I may or may not have got annoyed at the organization of said list, made my own list, and then updated it.

Hand Drawn Sleeves- Chapter 1
The first time T.J remembers seeing the designs was on the first day of second grade. He was sitting while the teacher was teaching math, and he wasn’t paying attention. He hated math anyways. He felt a tickle on his arm and looked down, seeing flowers and swirls sprawling about. He stared at his arm puzzled, rubbing at it, but the designs wouldn’t smear or fade. He put on his jacket and kept his sleeves rolled down all day.

When he went back home, he was trying not to cry, freaking out and showing his mom. She smiled and stroked back his hair.
“Honey, everyone on Earth is born with a soulmate, the person that’s perfect for you and who you should be with,” she said. “And the universe decided to help us find them by letting us know what’s drawn on the skin of the other. Look!” She pointed to his arm and the drawings started smearing before disappearing. “Looks like your soulmate is washing them off. There’s nothing to worry about.”
“So whatever they draw I see on my skin?”
“And whatever you draw will show up on their skin.”
So T.J. Kippen moved on with his life, and he kept looking forward to what would show up on his skin. It was highly discouraged for people to use the writing on the skin to reveal their identities because if you met and knew who your soulmate was too early, there was a 99% chance of the relationship not working out and being forever alone, someone dubbed soulless. So he didn’t get his soulmate’s name. He looked for the drawings, and sometimes, he would draw over some of the designs with his own pen and would watch almost all of the drawings fade, wait a good few minutes, and then wait for the trademark frowny face to appear on his forearm. That’s when he would chuckle and wash off his own side. The frowny face would be crossed out with a big X and a smiley face would be drawn next to it, and that always made TJ smile, no matter what was happening in his life.
He loved watching the designs show up on his arm, the way they seemed to swirl. He tried picturing what his soulmate looked like. For several years, he pictured someone like his friend Joshie. Joshie was a cute boy who always had paint on his cheek, but his parents always talked about his soulmate becoming his girlfriend. He always frowned but accepted it. It was probably a girl and he was still growing out of his “girls are icky” phase. His sister Amber acted the same way whenever they referred to her soulmate as her future boyfriend. They were just growing out of it. That’s what they kept saying to each other.
In the meantime, T.J. would just watch the designs every day. He watched it while he was at school, giving up on trying to understand math. He was just stupid with numbers, and he wished people would stop being so hard on him there. He was good at English, Basketball, and even somewhat decent with Spanish since he was able to string together several coherent sentences from Dora the Explorer alone.
He was in the fifth grade when he moved to Shadyside after his dad died. It was just him, his mom, and his sister Amber. When his father died, his mom developed a black band in the middle of her forearm, the sign of a Lost Soul, someone who lost their soulmate.
It was the summer before sixth grade when the drawings stopped. All he would get were pencil smudges or ink stains on his hand from his soulmate. And whenever he helped do some repairs on his mom’s car and got oil stains, the frowny face would reappear, and if he was in the middle of the job, he would take out a pen and write:

-O.K. Counting.-
That was the most the two ever wrote to each other as messages. They didn’t want to risk it going any further. When T.J. was about to wash his hands, he’d draw a checkmark, and wait for the smiley face. That was all he got. No more drawings. He was sad, but he moved on. Tons of people would find their soulmates with nothing but ink stains and paint smudges. He moved on.
He joined the basketball team, and eventually, he made captain, and he became the best player on the team. He was forced to allow a girl onto his team, Buffy Driscoll. She was good, but he would never admit that. This was the boy’s basketball team and Driscoll was ruining the vibe. His mom said he had a crush whenever he complained about her. Amber knew Driscoll and the gang, and she knew that T.J. had absolutely no interest in her. He just wanted her off the team so she that the other basketball teams could stop making fun of them.
It was the eighth grade when T.J. looked down at his arms absentmindedly in math class when T.J.’s spirits lifted. It wasn’t him magically understanding the problems on the board. That was never going to happen. It was his arm. On his left arm, the doodles were returning. He smiled and looked over it. There were flowers and leaves, and swirls in the spaces between. He traced them with his finger, looking over it. It felt like his soulmate was back, really back.
He had so many questions. Who were they? Where did they learn how to draw? And why did they stop for so long. He wanted to go rushing out the school hallways and look at everyone’s arm, but he stopped himself. Did he want to know? Was he ready to know?
He decided to shake it off and go to basketball practice, thankful that Buffy was in meetings with the principal to create a new girls basketball team. Not that he would ever tell her, but he supported that. The sooner she got her girls team, the sooner she was off of his. He quickly got changed and went to the gym to go practice some layups.
“Whoa, Timothy Jimothy!” a voice behind him said. T.J. rolled his eyes.
“Not my name, Reed.”
“Dude, I’m running out of T and J names.”
“Yup. You’ll never figure it out. And I’m not telling,” he said, shooting another basket.
“Dude, why did you draw all this crap on your arm?” he took his arm and started looking over it. “Flowers, squiggles, turing fag on me, bro.”
“Dude, shut up,” he said, giving him a shove back. “It’s my soulmate you idiot, see?” he licked his thumb and rubbed it on the doodles. “No smudge. Not me.”
“Damn, you really got some girly girl to draw all over you?” he said.
“I don’t even know who my soulmate is yet,” T.J. said. “All I know is that there’s this drawing on my soulmate’s arm, and it won’t come off until they decide to wash it off.”
“You know,” Randy said, jogging into the room. “The amount that you two argue, nobody would think you guys are best friends. Honestly, even for me sometimes it’s more believable that you two are soulmates.”
“Gross,” Reed said. “T.J's dude!”
“Yeah, gross,” he said, shooting more baskets. “As if I’d want to spend the rest of my life with this dickhead.”
“Oh you’re so sure,” Randy teased.
“Randy, Reed’s arm is clean, mine has doodles all over it. My soulmate is active. Unlike yours...Randy?” T.J. let the ball drop and he rushed to his friend’s side, who fell to his knees and started breathing heavily.
Reed looked at his arm. There were swirling black lines all over it and then it settled on a black band on his forearm.
“Shit,” T.J. looked. “Man I’m sorry…”
“Just... just leave it,” he said. “I gotta go home…Maybe it’s good I didn’t meet them yet. Maybe I’ll meet another lost soul and just...see if we have fun.” He grabbed his stuff and left.
“Okay, I won’t say another word about soulmates...I swear...”
T.J. watched Randy walk away. He knew that sort of thing happened and opened his phone to see if there were any news stories that could have explained that. The good news is that there were no national tragedies to report, but that didn’t change the black band on Randy’s arm.
He remembered the car crash like it was yesterday. They weren’t in the car, but he remembered his mom screamed in pain and dropped the salad bowl she was holding. He remembered looking around confused while Amber rushed over to help her, and he remembered her breaking down crying when the band solidified. He looked up what happened later that night because his mom didn’t want to talk, and he and Amber just held each other and cried.
He closed his eyes and shook his head. He didn’t want to remember the funeral, and he didn’t want to think about how his mom said that it feels like there’s a hole in her heart and that she’ll never be warm enough again.
“Whatever man…” T.J. said. “I’m gonna go study for English…” He put on his hoodie and froze when, as soon as she walked into the gym looking annoyed, he saw Buffy’s right arm. The patterns looked way to similar. He grabbed a blue pen and drew a small slash on his wrist. Thankfully, nothing happened, and he quickly cleaned the mark off before he left. Maybe Driscoll just drew on his soulmate’s arm, or maybe his soulmate was the artist. Either way, one important thought remained in his head.
“Not Her.”
