hey im lookin for a tmnt fic rn that i spontaneously remembered but cannot, for the life of me, remember the title of to search for it.

heres what i remember

it was on ao3

it was most likely 2003 tmnt, donnie cenric

twas angsty

it was definitely finished

the plot was that donnie severely fucked up his knee, like permanently, forcing him off the battlefield forever, and his brothers went around finding people who could help

there was a surgery to repair his knee and help him back into a semi normal life that he couldn't perform on himself for reasons, probably lack of resources

i thibk he made a brace for it himself?

he made a robot that would go out into the field for him, trackjng his upper body movements exactly and using what i think was ai for the legs

i remember the line "and his cardinal sin was spinning when he should have flipped" or something like that

Why would anything be wrong? I was a spaceship! How cool is that? Super cool, that’s how cool! A spaceship, Apes! A freaking spaceship!”

April sits up and abandons all pretense of giving him privacy. Instead she stares intently at the slim back that is facing her. The back that is covered by his most advanced battle shell. It's a big and clunky and heavy thing, thicker than all his other shells. As far as she knows it's usually reserved for the hardest and most brutal fights, designed to withstand everything and let nothing through.

He’s been wearing it constantly ever since the Krang attacked. Even in the lair.

Yeah. 'Super cool’, her ass.

'(Do Not) Let Evil Consume You'

Chapter 10 of my Separated AU, wherein Donnie is raised by Baron Draxum after being 're-surprise adopted' when he was young. Their goal? Protect the yokai by wiping out all the humans.

Continuing from the previous chapter, based in the episode Shadow of Evil, Donatello is given his task. Kill two men from the zoo. It should be simple, but he has never crossed the line of killing someone before. Donatello could be prepared to do it, if a certain red-eared slider hadn't insisted on tagging along.

Watching some 1987 and when Splinter tells the turtles they can’t go after the retromutagen ray because “what if the Shredder used it on you?”

Donatello does the honors of putting it together and finishing out the exposition like, “We’d be changed back into ordinary turtles”

And he looks so sad and scared, which makes sense at this point in the show. But later he’s the guy who’s like “wouldn’t you rather be an ordinary turtle than hated by the humans”

So is this when he starts thinking about it? Now the seed is planted in his mind that the world needs human Splinter more than it needs humanoid turtles. And as they get more and more grief from the humans it makes sense how the thought would evolve.
